  1. Death’s Gambit is a challenging action RPG where you fight your way through an alien medieval planet filled with beasts, knights, and horrors. As an agent of Death, you are bound to his service until you destroy the source of the immortals. Development on Death’s Gambit continues, but in the meantime we thought it apt to share a unique feature we’ve kept under wraps for quite some time now: the class selection system. Everyone has a favorite playstyle, and while various weapons are readily available along your journey, there are certain gameplay elements unique to individual classes. Class also determines your starting equipment and stats. In this trailer we show some of the different immortal bosses that you encounter. Our goal from the start was to make each boss have unique abilities that stand out from everything else in the game. We also wanted to give the player a large arsenal of weapons and abilities to tackle them. It’s up to you to discover the best strategies and character build. Although immortal characters and bosses can be defeated, they come back to life. You don’t ever have to fight the bosses again but it may still be worth your time since they might drop different items depending how you defeat them. On the other hand, you’ll also encounter mortal characters and friends along the way. Figuring out who is mortal and who isn’t will affect the story. Wouldn’t want to anger the wrong immortal, right? 2. Hey there! kokoromi here with an update on SuperHyperCube. In our last post, we shared with you a bit of the game’s history and our aesthetic inspirations for the game, from iconic film sequences to immersive art movements. We want you to feel like you are a part of a completely separate reality of warm, glowing light and abstract space. We’ve put tons of detail into the game’s retro-futuristic look and feel. In this post we’d like to share a bit about the gameplay in SuperHyperCube, to give you an idea of how things work. We’ve spent the past year refining our mechanics, adding new elements and stripping away others to hone in on the right level of challenge and create a streamlined gameplay experience. Without giving away too many secrets, here is a bit of what you can expect when the game launches on October 13. SuperHyperCube is very simple: you start off with a single cube, a cube that matches a hole in an ominously approaching wall. The object of the game is to fit your cube through the wall. Easy, right? Fitting cubes through holes is the heart of the game, and we were determined not to stray too far from it. Of course, we’ve brought in a few additional challenges. Once you pass through the wall, additional cubes will snap on to your original cube, creating a random cluster of cubes. As you progress through the game, your cluster continues to grow to hundreds of cubes, and it is your job to rotate it so that it fits through the hole in the oncoming wall. The trouble is, the cluster obscures the shape of the hole in the wall, so you have to look around it in order to properly see the hole, and get a better sense of the shape of your cluster. This is where headtracking comes in, and why you can’t play the game without it. Once you’ve aligned your cluster to the hole, you can either sit tight and naturally pass through the wall, or if you are confident in your success, you can Boost (a kind of quick-drop) to accelerate your cluster through the hole. As you Boost, you subsequently charge power-ups that can help you get out of tight situations in the game. The first power-up is a Time Warp, a bullet-time effect which allows you to temporarily slow down time, giving you extra opportunity to align your cluster to the oncoming hole. The second is Smash, which gives you the power to blast through the oncoming wall, leaving it in shattered fragments. Nothing is more satisfying than turning the tables on those smug walls! There are also special trick walls within the game that serve as gateways to new levels, each one a new world with its own ambience and aesthetic. All in all, there are 10 levels to master, each made up of 10 walls. See how you match up against your friends, or players from around the world, on the leaderboards… or simply try and beat your own personal best scores and stats! There you have it. One game, 10 levels, 100 walls. Are you up for the challenge? If you can’t wait until October, SuperHyperCube is currently playable in select GameStop and Best Buy locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, and if you are lucky, you may catch it at other game and VR festivals near you. <3 kokoromi View the full article
  3. Behold — the original shooter from the 16-bit era, now with stunning HD-era visuals! We announced Assault Suit Leynos for PS4 only a few short months ago, and since then there has been a real surge in excitement from fans of the classic series, known originally as Target Earth. The game received a staggering showing at PAX East in the U.S. and also at London’s ComicCon. Illustrated by the community reaction, Leynos is fondly remembered by fans of the 16-bit classic, and that’s why we can’t wait to bring this blistering, high-definition remake to PS4 with enhanced visuals and entirely new gameplay features. Our developer partner Dracue, based out of Japan, is handling the respectful and faithful coding duties (so that’s why you’re stuck with me, a Rising Star publishing person). You’ll see we’ve not dialed down or diluted the series’ (in)famous level of challenge. This is a tough game, but fair — rewarding precision and skill. We’re proud to shout about its hardcore nature. The newly remixed Arcade mode offers extended levels, full voice-acted cutscenes, and recalibrated AI enemies. For those who enjoy a real old-school experience, Classic mode challenges you to battle like it’s 1990 with authentic gameplay, effects, and music. For newcomers, Assault Suit Leynos provides a rewarding learning curve. With patience and proficiency, you’ll begin to make headway into the game in no time, discovering your favorite weapon loadouts to choose for the mission, and enjoying the game’s climactic set pieces and anime sci-fi story. There’s also the opportunity to apply various gameplay modifiers to customize your experience the way you want it. As a team made up of fairly core gamers, here at Rising Star Games we’re honored to bring this classic from our childhoods to a new generation of console and a new community of gamers. Assault Suit Leynos is available digitally on July 12, priced at $19.99. View the full article

  6. This is Marc from Drool. Back in 2009, Brian Gibson and I teamed up to create Thumper, our rhythm violence game. Today, we’re excited to finally announce Thumper is launching alongside PlayStation VR on October 13. Thumper contains nine epic levels playable in both ultra-glossy 2D and fully immersive VR. Over the past few months, we’ve made many enhancements to take full advantage of PS VR. We’ve fine-tuned movement speed, the scale of the game world, and our visual effects to create an overwhelming sense of speed and monumental dread. It’s hard to describe if you’ve never been a space beetle on a screaming hell ride before. But no matter which way you play, we think you’ll feel the violence! Of course, audio is also an essential part of Thumper. Brian composed the music using a unique “gameplay first†technique. Most rhythm games take pre-composed songs and fit gameplay around them. For Thumper, we first developed the mechanics and levels and Brian used them to create an integrated sound experience that maximizes impact. You don’t play the music in Thumper, you survive it. We’ve always wanted to release Thumper and its soundtrack in a special way. So we couldn’t be more psyched to team up with the fine folks from iam8bit to create a limited edition collector’s package. You may have seen their Journey and Hotline Miami 2 vinyl right here on PlayStation.Blog. Our Thumper CE includes a game code and vinyl soundtrack with cover artwork designed by Robert Beatty. Robert’s music and art were a key inspiration for Thumper and we can’t wait to hold this beautifully designed package in our hands! It will include a psychedelic picture disc and some extra special features we’ll announce soon. Check out the iam8bit store for more details and to pre-order the Collector’s Edition. Thumper will be available at PlayStation Store as a digital download for $19.99 on October 13. View the full article

  8. As you may remember, at E3 earlier this month we debuted brand new footage from Detroit: Become Human — the incredible new adventure from Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls developer Quantic Dream. There was plenty to take in across the clip — not only did it offer your first glimpse of one of the game’s main playable characters, Connor, but it also offered a taste of Detroit’s branching gameplay, where your every action can alter the path the story takes. Following the reveal, we sat down with the game’s creator, David Cage, to gain a little more insight into what players can expect from the upcoming PS4 title. View the full article
  9. Naughty Dog has been floored by your reception to Uncharted 4 Multiplayer since it was released on May 10. Since then, we’ve seen over 1.8 million people play nearing a total of almost 54 years of matches played. Multiplayer continues to be important to the team and we’re continuing to work on patch deployments to deliver improvements and gameplay tuning. Our first major post-launch update, patch 1.08, launches today and includes our first MP DLC drop, a Level system and an entirely new Rank system with special rewards. Yes, this is a big update (patch 1.08 is just over 1.3GB in size). Lost TreasuresLost Treasures is our first post-launch content drop, and includes our first map release, new gameplay items, and amazing-looking character skins. Sunken Ruins MapAs promised, all DLC Maps are included with purchase in U4 MP, and our first map is Sunken Ruins. You may recognize some areas from the single-player campaign, but the Sunken Ruins map is a small, fast-paced map with tight fronts and some hidden water flank routes. Gameplay ItemsYou can now purchase DLC Gameplay Chests with Relics. These unique Chests will grant you all the new gameplay DLC items, including the new P90 Long Gun or the incredibly exciting Path of Indra Mystical that allows you to teleport your teammates. You will never get duplicates of any item you have already unlocked through our DLC Gameplay Chests. The full list of new gameplay items is: Weapons P90 – A full auto submachine gun with a very large magazine Arrowhead A3c – A full auto long range variable rifle (choose to scope in or not) Enforcer G26 – Semi-auto very fast rate of fire pistol Agarwal .40 – Semi-auto hard-hitting 40-caliber pistol Harbinger Sniper – A Heavy Weapon sniper gun Boosters Enhanced Radar – increases the range of radar and show directional arrows for enemies Gunslinger – swap weapons faster and reload faster while rolling Hardened – reduced damage wobble Gifting – give allies a full gear recharge Mystical Path of Indra – teleport to any allyVanity ItemsIn addition to new gameplay items, we have also introduced a wide variety of Vanity items for all our beloved characters. Over 50 new Skins and Pre-Sets Over 70 new Hat and Face Wear items An assortment of new Taunts and Weapon Skins Some of the new items (there is a new skin for each character for example) present certain characters in in some fantastic Pirate and Military themes – who doesn’t want to play as Pirate Sullivan or Military Lazarevic? Our Character team put in a ton of time and love working on all these new Skins and it shows. Patch 1.08Level SystemOne of the most significant pieces of feedback we’ve received was that Uncharted 4 Multiplayer did not release with a Level System. We’re glad to say that we are addressing this in 1.08, which introduces a system that many of you will be familiar with. Our Level System features 70 levels, with each level awarding you with items ranging from Relics to Chests. Every 5 levels you will earn a vanity item that cannot be attained through any other method. They are unique and a great way to show off your veteran status. They are quite mystical, actually… You will level up by earning XP which comes from three sources: completing matches, earning score, and earning medals. We have also introduced a wide variety of new medals into Team Deathmatch and Ranked Team Deathmatch. Ranked Team DeathmatchThe Multiplayer team at Naughty Dog is extremely competitive and this is a big reason we did a full revamp for Ranked Team Deathmatch Mode, which is also included in 1.08. Ranked Team Deathmatch will now be occurring over the course of Seasons. Season One will last 60 days, ending on August 20, 2016. When the Season is over, we’ll take a short break before the next Season starts to allow us time to make and implement any changes and updates. As you reach Gold, Platinum or Diamond, you will be awarded with a vanity item. These vanity items will be available for Ranked Team Deathmatch for the Season, so if you do not reach the needed Rank for a reward, you may never be able to get that reward again. We have also made Rank a much easier system to understand in how points are awarded/taken, removed the restrictions for parties, and introduced a forfeit option. This patch will also introduce an entirely new goal for the highly competitive players among you – Master Rank. I highly suggest you visit our Ranked Team Deathmatch details page for some more insight into how this mode works – we think it’s awesome and everyone should be playing it! Triple Pack UpdateFor those of you who purchased the Triple Pack, Multiplayer Pack 1 of the Triple Pack is available today. Your items can be found unlocked in the customization and loadout menus. The Triple Pack contains: P90 Long Gun Gifting Booster Pirate Drake Skin Pirate Commodore Hat The Rubber Leg Taunt We will continue to hand pick content for inclusion in the Triple Pack for those who have already purchased it or those who purchase the Digital Deluxe version. The Triple Pack was a great launch offering, but we’ll soon be offering the Explorer’s Pack which includes the much anticipated single-player DLC and 3,200 Uncharted Points. This will provide players with even greater choice on which items they prefer to own. You’ll start seeing this roll out in the coming weeks. ImprovementsIn addition to all the above updates, we have made a number of more minor improvements that work together to make Uncharted 4 Multiplayer even better. Check out the full details for 1.08 on our Patch Notes pages. The ability for a player to accumulate an offline Relic bonus; log back in and play games to pull Relics from your offline bonus Leaderboards have been fixed The Brute Sidekick can no longer detect players behind them unless they are damaged Spirit of the Djinn – Increase Duration mod will now grant you an additional 5 seconds for each KO you get while your Djinn is active The Farmer Booster has been totally revamped so you can deal with Sidekicks more effectively Damage wobble and blind-fire have had significant balance updates Most of these improvements will have a deep impact in how Uncharted 4 Multiplayer plays and we are looking forward to hearing your feedback. We will continue to make updates to deliver the best Uncharted Multiplayer experience possible. Don’t forgot to join us on our next Twitch broadcast later this week as we do a rundown of Ranked Team Deathmatch and answer your questions to any and all of the new content that was released as part of patch 1.08. We’ll be broadcasting on our Twitch channel at 11:30 AM PT / 20:30 CET on Thursday, June 30. See you online! View the full article

  11. Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is out today in North America, boasting a real time action battle system — a first of its kind for the series. It’s a JRPG with an immersive story and a unique sci-fi twist. For those who have never heard of this title, the Star Ocean franchise has a rich history spanning 20 years. For long time fans, yes, it has been awhile, and we’re so excited to bring it back! Star Ocean: Last Hope the previous Star Ocean game released in 2010 and prior to that, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time launches back in 2004. For those who have not had a chance to see the launch trailer, check it out here! If you’re new to the series, don’t worry that the game takes place on Spacedate 537 or that you’ve never played Star Ocean before. Although all Star Ocean games are part of the Star Ocean universe, new players will not need prior knowledge as the latest installment has its own unique story with all new characters, environments, and familiar elements for the veteran fans! What is the charm of Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness? First off, the gameplay and art creation of the all-star development team is exciting — including Director Shuichi Kobayashi, Tri-Ace producer Hiroshi Ogawa, and character designer Akira Yasuda (akiman) known in the gaming and manga community. Being able to have 7 characters in battle creates a thrill as you will be able to experience fast-paced action with an option to switch between 6 of the players. The Battle Role System allows players to customize how the various characters will attack, heal, cast magic, and more. Battle tactics will enhance as you level up the roles, creating a very fulfilling experience. Another fun feature in the game is its dynamic Party Skills system that includes fun things like gathering and crafting elements. Note, there are plenty of rare skills that you can unlock like the Emoter, lockpicking, mining, and more! Next up, the incredibly epic music from the famed composer Motoi Sakuraba! All of this comes together with the talented voice-over cast! With the variety of the character roster, it was very essential that the VO actors breathe life into each of the party members. In closing, thank you to the outpour of support and love on all of the Star Ocean social channels! To celebrate the launch in North America, the development team is stopping by Anime Expo at the Los Angeles Convention center from July 1 to July 3. We’re having an “Aligning the Stars†panel with the VO cast and developers, Akiman signings, cosplay gatherings, and a launch party, so if you’re in the area definitely stop by to enjoy the festivities! If you haven’t picked up a copy yet, now’s your chance to get the digital version on PlayStation Store! The digital version comes with a Dynamic Theme that includes Fidel, Miki, and Relia! We can’t wait till you get your hands on the game to traverse the stars in Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness. Please leave your comments below! View the full article
  12. Hello, PlayStation.Blog! Banner Saga 2 will be launching on July 5! We originally planned to launch later in the month. However, because of the combined effort of our friends at Sony and the hard work by the team at Shiny Shoe, we are able to bring this to you much sooner. Stoic wanted people to kickstart their Summer off right and jumped at the chance to get the second game in the hands of PS4 owners. We’re also happy to announce that PlayStation owners get a unique in-game item that gives Banner Saga 2 players a passive ability bonus. The “Playful Hilt of Arnr†will be in your inventory once you start the game. For those of you that care about the detail of such things, here’s a little more info about this item. The hilt of this unique sword is said to provide comfort in extended battles. Equipable at level 10, this item will give you a +3 all talent rank and a +20% double strength damage. The community has been sending us some questions so we got the good fellas from Stoic, John and Arnie, to answer them for you folks! Can we still play Banner Saga 2 if we haven’t played Banner Saga 1? Arnie: Yes! There’s no downside if you’re jumping into this from scratch. To help those of you that didn’t play Banner Saga 1, we’ve included a recap video that gives you a quick low down of events that happened before Banner Saga 2 and we’ve also given you two default characters to choose from in the starting options if you haven’t imported your save game from Banner Saga 1. Does the save game from Banner Saga 1 automatically import into Banner Saga 2 once I’ve downloaded it? John: Nope. You are given the option to choose what you would like to do — either import a saved game or choose one of the default starting options. Can I play Banner Saga 2 before Banner Saga 1? Arnie: Yes you can of course, but if you are interested in playing from the start of the story, we’d suggest you play it in order starting with Banner Saga 1. We are offering all PlayStation owners a 25% discount on the first game at the launch of Banner Saga 2 and there’s also a bundle offer for both games, so now’s the time if you are interested! Is Banner Saga 1 still coming to PS Vita? John: Development for PS Vita is still underway and largely being handled by our friends at Sony. How long will we have to wait until Banner Saga 3? Arnie: Banner Saga 3 will conclude this trilogy and we are working hard to try and make it ship simultaneously on all platforms, so console owners won’t have to wait to get to play the final part of this story. We haven’t even started on Banner Saga 3 yet, but we will be kicking that off very soon. Thank you all for supporting us and other indie developers. Working with PlayStation and the PlayStation community is exciting for us and we can’t wait to deliver you more great content. Do you have any questions? 13. At Housemarque we believe that community is king. We read every comment you write and discuss every piece of feedback you send. Your opinions are really important to us, and for all of those that requested the addition of local co-op, I am pleased to let you know that local co-op play will be released to all players as part of the next free update that is scheduled to go live on July 5th! So gather your friends and family, buy some snacks, and make space for your squad to do battle with the Xenos from the sofa. Local co-op supports up to four players on the same screen, and in classic friendship-breaking fashion, after opening loot crates, you’ll have to fight over who gets the loot! The new update also introduces Leagues consisting of five ranks with each league cycle lasting for one week. Leagues allow you to climb the ladders of glory and unlock additional bullet colors in the process. In addition to this, after updating the game, you will also find two new difficulty levels called Expert and Master, and a richer Arkship experience with new rooms, harder enemies, and better loot. For veteran players, there are also more Hero Levels to be gained and a few new Trophies to be hunted down, and lastly we have adjusted details such as Legendary weapons and loot drop rates. All of these changes will be released entirely for free to all players, but if you’d really like to support us and the further development of Alienation, we hope that you will also pick up either the Season Pass or the Survivor’s Pack, both of which will be available on PlayStation Store on July 5. The Survivor’s Pack includes the Vortex Grenade, a new piece of gear that sucks all enemies in its path into a kind of black hole, dealing constant damage to all enemies trapped within. In addition to this, all Primary weapons are available to all hero classes, and you will also have three exclusive bullet colors at your disposal to make the game more colorful than ever and allow you to blast the Xenos with a bit more personal style. The Survivor’s Pack will be available to purchase for $5.99. The Season Pass is also available to buy on July 5 for $9.99. For a single purchase you get the Survivor’s Pack as well as the upcoming Conqueror’s Pack, Veteran Heroes Pack, the original soundtrack, and a dynamic Theme. All at a deeply discounted cost in comparison to buying this content individually. We will release more details regarding more free content that we will be adding to the game in the future and spill the beans on the Conqueror’s and Veteran Heroes Pack as soon as possible — most likely in the months ahead. It’s been a long time coming, and now we can’t wait for you to sit down with friends and family to play Alienation together! View the full article
  14. You’ve probably heard of the Mana series before, but just in case you’re unaware of it, it’s a famous and long running Square Enix franchise. Arguably the most famous entry in the series is Secret of Mana, which regularly appears in a lot of “best games ever made†lists. The franchise actually began life under a completely different name — the first game in the Mana series is called Final Fantasy Adventure before the series changed names and became the Mana series. Final Fantasy Adventure is an action RPG and was originally released back in 1991. It was remade as Adventures of Mana in Japan earlier this year and due to fan demand and also to kick off the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Mana series, we are bringing the PS Vita version of Adventures of Mana worldwide! If you want more good news then I’m happy to let you all know that you won’t have to wait long to pick up the game — in fact the game is available today! So what is Adventures of Mana all about? Here’s a quick story overview: Enshrined atop Mt. Illusia, high above the lofty clouds, stands the Tree of Mana. Drawing its life energy from the boundless celestial aether, the sentinel grows in silence. Legend holds that he who lays his hands upon its trunk will be granted power eternal — a power the Dark Lord of Glaive now seeks to further fuel his bloody quest for domination. Our unlikely hero is one of countless gladiators indentured to the Duchy of Glaive. Each day, he and his ill-fated companions are dragged from their cells and bade to fight exotic beasts for the amusement of the Dark Lord. If victorious, they are thrown back into the dungeons with just enough bread to tide them over until their next match. But a body can only take so much, and it is never long before the weary captives succumb to their cruel fates. The PS Vita version of Adventures of Mana features enhanced 3D visuals (the original was in 2D), revamped menus, and a rearranged soundtrack from the game’s original composer. The background music from the original version is also available in the game so if you want to go old school with the music, you totally can! When Adventures of Mana was originally released, a lot of PS Vita owners were disappointed that we couldn’t launch it worldwide at the time. Since then, the development team have been working extremely hard to bring it over so I’m really happy to let you guys know that your voices were heard and the team is really happy to bring Adventures of Mana to the PS Vita community and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Mana series with you all. 15. Hey everybody! Some people are getting tired of hearing this, but back in 2002 I was the technical director on the Spider-Man 2 game, and I was the one who originally prototyped its ground-breaking swinging mechanic. Fast forward several years and I decided to revisit swinging gameplay as an indie dev, creating an all-new swinging experience that still captures that same visceral joy – mostly by myself! That was in 2012! Four years later, it’s finished: Energy Hook. (Finally!) Energy Hook is the extreme sport of the future. You swing from a grapple beam, run on walls, jump and boost with your jetpack, and do flips and poses midair, all to earn style points. Chain your tricks to get multipliers for massive scores. There are also race challenges where you’ll swing through the levels as quickly as possible. Doing tricks earns you boost and keeps you in the air longer; use this to your advantage and get the best time possible! Like the early Tony Hawk games there’s no story — it’s all about the gameplay! The levels are done by different artists so each has its own flavour. There’s a cyberpunk city; a level of rocks and islands floating in the clouds; Tron-like challenge levels; and levels where if you miss your swing you’ll fall to your doom. (And respawn immediately, of course.) There’s nothing else like it. I’ve never put so much of myself into a game. This is my magnum opus – the best game I’ve ever made. I still get lost in it and lose all sense of time. I hope you like it too! View the full article
  16. Hello again, Street Fighters! We have a ton of new information to share with you today regarding the latest update to Street Fighter V! As many of you may have seen last night during CPT Premier Event CEO2016, Balrog will also be released with this update alongside Ibuki and the Cinematic Story Mode! The update will go live in all territories on July 1 at Midnight Pacific after the scheduled server maintenance is complete, which starts on June 30 at 2:00 PM Pacific. That’s not all, though! We have even more content lined up for this release including additional costumes and new stages. Balrog is one of the most iconic characters in Street Fighter history, first appearing as one of the Four Kings of Shadaloo in Street Fighter II as a boss character. He’s always been one of the most vicious characters to ever appear in the series, using his devastating boxing style to knock out his opponents. Before joining Shadaloo and moving his way up in the ranks to become one of M. Bison’s highest ranking officers, he was one of the greatest boxing champions of his time. His style of boxing, which uses illegal techniques such as head-butting, eventually got him banned from competing due to causing extreme harm to his opponents. In short, Balrog will do whatever it takes to win a fight and with the end goal always being to obtain more wealth. Outside of Street Fighter II, he also appeared in Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter IV, not to mention various cross-over titles such as Capcom vs SNK and Street Fighter X Tekken. Balrog in Street Fighter V still remains as one of Shadaloo’s top enforcers, working alongside M. Bison, F.A.N.G., and Vega. Be sure to check out his Character Story and of course the Cinematic Story Mode to see what sort of trouble he gets himself into this time around. His playstyle in Street Fighter V puts the focus on his devastating punches, and with the use of his V-Trigger, he can chain these attacks together to deal serious damage. He also has a few cheap attacks up his sleeve to keep the fight in his favor, so don’t let your guard down for a moment! V-Skill: KKB A unique move that twirls his body while moving forward. While activated, you can dodge projectiles as well as string together attacks. You can even activate KKB before a special hits you, allowing you to be a technical inside fighter. V-Trigger: Crazy Rush A chance to be the aggressor when activated! Steam rises from his body and allows you to string together specials like Charging Buffalo and Bursting Buffalo. Critical Art: Gigaton Blow Unleash the fury from your fist with this simple, yet destructive critical art. It can be connected with various moves. Make sure to include it in your combos. New Stages and CostumesTo ensure this release packs an even bigger punch, Balrog’s story costume and premium battle costume will become available on 7/1, as well as a revival of the classic Las Vegas stage from Street Fighter II! The streets are lined with neon signs as you are cheered on by a fired-up crowd. That’s not all, either. This summer, Street Fighter V is about to heat up! The Kanzuki Family Private Beach will now be available as an all new battle stage. This will also be released with the update on July 1 and can be purchased for 70,000 fight money. Also, Karin’s premium summer costume will be available to purchase as part of this latest update. These can both be purchased from the PS Store and Steam for $3.99. As a reminder, all character Battle Costumes will be available for purchase on July 1 through both PlayStation Store and on PC. Juri and UrienAll of you probably saw the teaser we released for both Juri and Urien as part of the Balrog trailer. While they aren’t ready for official release just yet, they will be playable in the Cinematic Story Mode, and we wanted to share their official artwork showcasing their designs. As you can see, they have a brand new look with Urien in a high-end suit and Juri in a biker outfit. Updates on their playstyles will be coming soon! As always, thanks to all our fans for the continued support. We’re committed to making Street Fighter V the best in the series and value everyone’s feedback as we continue to update the game. We’re eager to hear what you think of the Cinematic Story Mode and all the additional content included with this update coming later this week. View the full article
  17. Hello fellow God Eaters. As you may know, God Eater Resurrection is hitting PS4 and PS Vita tomorrow, and to assist you in hunting the Aragami we have put together a brief starter guide. It’s In the Details Take a look at Mission Details before you begin a mission. They will let you know what type of weapon you should take into battle (pierce, crush, sunder, blaze, spark, divine, or freeze). This will help a lot at the start of the game, but later on you will need to go into the database to see what element the Aragami are weak against. Know Your Enemy Aragami have specific break points. The break points will change with each variation. For example: A Vajra’s break points are on its tail, claws, and head. Other iterations of Vajra (encountered on missions later in the game) will have break points on its cape or shoulders. Also, certain parts of an Aragami are weaker than others. The weakest point on a Vajra is the tail, followed by the head, and lastly, its claws. Certain break points are more vulnerable to one form of attack than another (e.g., Sunder, crush, pierce). If one attack type isn’t doing enough damage, try another type. Shield Size Matters Tower shields are slow to block. Stick to the medium-sized Shield unless you are using a Buster Blade — its Advanced Guard ability negates the slow speed of tower shields. Run and Gun There are several types of guns you can equip. Each with their own strengths and weaknesses: Assault Guns — Your all purpose guns. They don’t have a specific bullet-type. Any bullet can be used without reducing the damage dealt by it, but they also don’t lower the cost of Oracle Points (OP) for any bullet. Sniper Guns — If you like using laser shots, stick with Sniper Guns. It reduces the cost of OP per shot and boosts damage. Any other type of shot with Sniper Guns will reduce the damage done. Blast Gun — The Blast Gun’s specialties are Radial and Bomb bullet-types, using these will reduce their OP costs and increase their damage (any other bullet-type will cause a reduction in damage when using the Blast Guns). The Right Type At the Right Time There are four basic bullet-types: Bombs, Laser, Radial, and Shots. Lasers can pierce and can hit multiple Aragami. Shots are your standard type of bullet, they cause sunder damage. Bombs and Radial bullets are the strongest bullet-type and may cause area of effect damage. Eventually you’ll be able to make your own bullets but here some things to note: You can have up to 8 mods per bullet. Always test your bullet before finalizing it. There are also two types of shots: standard shots that cause damage, and deco shots that are for decorative purposes. Deco shots cost less than standard shots, and are just used to make your bullet look interesting when it’s fired. We also wanted to remind all of you about a couple of offers. You can get a free digital copy of God Eater Resurrection when you pre-order God Eater 2 Rage Burst digitally for PS4 via PlayStation Store. You will also get God Eater 2 Rage Burst DLC costumes from Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization, Tales of Zestiria, and Tokyo Ghoul. So bookend that summer vacation with God Eater and keep your summer promises by keeping in touch with your best buds and slaying Aragami together! View the full article
  18. Hawken is a free-to-play, mech- and team-based shooter launching July 8 on PS4. Underlying our shooter is a surprisingly enormous and well-developed universe. So much so that there has been a hardback, 100+ page graphic novel, a five issue comic series, and a Brand Bible that covers a several-hundred-year timeline. When I first started on the Hawken project a little over a year ago, I wasn’t aware of this depth, and it’s been satisfying to see that so much thought and effort went into the mythology behind the game. What, then, is the Hawken lore? In the Hawken mythos, approximately 60 years from now humanity pioneers hyperdrive technology allowing for deep space exploration. From there, terraforming and colonizing efforts build a network of habitable planets. Eventually this leads to the discovery of a planet named Illal, which is deemed too risky and expensive to terraform; however, the potential profit prompts a set of multi-planetary corporations (MPCs) to purchase permission to do so privately. Illal presents exceptionally difficult challenges, but the “Big Three†MPCs (Prosk, Crion, and Sentium) see a string of engineering breakthroughs that result in widespread industrial application of bipedal mechs for construction and mining. These product lines become immensely profitable, and Illal becomes a highly sought-after source of rare resources and industrial machinery. Terraforming operations accelerate and Illal quickly becomes a near-habitable planet. Natural resource discovery and extraction rates are taken to whole new levels. And then everything changes. When one of the big 3 MPCs, Prosk, discovers mineral deposits that allow them to create lighter, stronger, and more versatile mechs, they begin to dominate the market. The competition turns to covert paramilitary activities in order to secure this seemingly-magical material, known as cavorite. Mechs designed for industrial purposes are retrofitted for covert armed conflict. The Illal mech industry sets a new high-water mark among all human planets. With cavorite deposits limited to known meteorite impact craters, research into a potential synthetic replacement becomes a focus for the Crion corporation. During a raid on a Crion research facility, an explosion causes one variant of these materials to be released into the environment. This is the epicenter of the self-replicating nano-virus informally known as the “Hawken virus†in honor of its first victim, the renowned scientist James Hawken. The nano-virus is indomitable. It converts organic material into a fast-growing metallic crust that ultimately covers a vast portion of Illal’s surface. Whole cities and regions are overrun, and the death toll is massive. It’s only the vast stretches of near-lifeless deserts that slow the growth of what becomes known as the Gigastructure. The nature of this nano-virus results in a quarantine of the entire planet by way of a relentless orbital blockade. Illal’s economy falters, but the discovery of a high-density regenerative energy source called Vitrolium, derived from the Gigastructure, ushers in overt warfare to harvest the material and smuggle it off-planet through the blockade via “amenable channelsâ€. All the while, the Gigastructure is steadily advancing, reducing the habitable land mass. The galactic human population is aware of the situation on Illal, but due to the nano-virus, intervention is not an official option. The chance to obtain Vitrolium, however, creates an irresistible draw. Our game, Hawken, is set within this turbulent context. View the full article

  21. While this month’s announcement of Watch Dogs 2 — Ubisoft’s future tech open-world caper — might not have come as a huge surprise given the success of the 2014 original, it’s nevertheless a welcome return for a new IP with some big ideas. Doubly so, given that the team behind it seems keen to push forward the template they laid down the first time around. The most immediately obvious change-up is in the game’s look and feel — whereas its predecessor often struck a serious, no-nonsense note with Chicago’s stern skyline framing the action, Watch Dogs 2 is brash, colorful, and pops with charisma. This time the action plays out in and around iconic San Francisco, with gritty protagonist Aiden Pearce replaced by exuberant young DedSec hacktivist Marcus Holloway. Along with a handful of fellow code warriors, he’s got his sights set on taking down insidious big businesses harnessing tech for nefarious ends. “We hope you’ll feel that Watch Dogs 2 is new and different when you get your hands on it,†says Game Director Danny Belanger, talking to us backstage at last week’s E3. “We know that having a sequel that feels too much like the first game can be disappointing, so we took a lot of risks and made some pretty big changes. “Whereas the first Watch Dogs was all about surveillance, this time we’re focusing on ‘Big Data’ — social media, search engines, and so forth. We’re taking these technologies, looking at them, and asking what the risks are, what can happen, what could a hacker do? And we’ve found that we can create some super-interesting situations.†The changes go further than just the cosmetic, however. Holloway has an expanded arsenal of gadgets at his disposal — as well as a more powerful handset, you’ll also be getting to grips with a 3D printer, crafting everything from firearms to your very own drone. The scope of what you can hack has been expanded, too. “Now you can hack anything that is connected,†says Belanger, “and you have more options for how you do it. “In the first Watch Dogs you generally had one way to hack something, and that created fairly simple patterns. But now you can carry out multiple hacks on every single person.†Perhaps most interesting of all the new additions, however, is a fresh way of approaching self-determination and player agency. Unlike in the original game, you can actually reach Watch Dogs 2’s finale without once using deadly force. “The player has the freedom to play the way they want,†explains Belanger. “We’re using three playstyles to talk about the game. The combat hacker — who is more proactive and uses hacks to take down people. There’s the ghost hacker — they can use hacks to distract and make noises. And then there’s the trickster hacker. They can finish a whole mission without actually physically being there.†How exactly does that work? Belanger gives the example of upgrading your drone to such a degree that you can complete a mission via remote control. Of course, if you want to go down the all-action route, he’s keen to stress that sort of gameplay will still be there for you, but there is now a much wider variety of options to choose from. “We don’t want to force you as a player to make a specific choice about how you want to play the game. One day you might want to play in a different way to the next,†he says. Sound intriguing? You don’t have long to wait to find out how these new additions enhance the Watch Dogs formula — Ubisoft’s sequel hits PS4 on November 15. View the full article
  22. Can you feel that rumble? That’s the rippling swell of anticipation for Gravity Rush 2 on PS4, coming off the back of its superb E3 showing. “A lot of people were asking me about the trailer after the PlayStation E3 Press Conference,†says Creative Director Keiichiro Toyama. “So I felt a bit like Kat does in the game — happy that people wanted to support me and the team, just like the characters in the game support her!†With Toyama-san cheerfully defying gravity, we joined him up on cloud nine for a chat… From Kitten to KatWhile the first Gravity Rush was all about the discovery of identity, the themes which envelop Kat this time are a little different. “You’re going to see a lot of personal growth and the emotional fallout from her journey,†explains Toyama-san. “We gave you a taste in the first game but it’ll be fully explored in this one. “Gravity Rush 2 is really about development and maturity –Kat is mischievous, but she’s also a great person and we wanted to go into that more and find out who she actually is.†A Whole New WorldGravity Rush was one of the first stand-out games on PS Vita, but the development team really wanted to take advantage of the increased power PS4 afforded for the sequel. So a staggering amount of detail was put into creating this new environment for Kat to explore. “We wanted to do everything bigger and better — more volume and space,†explains Toyama-san. “We did a lot of location research in places like Mexico and all across Asia, so there’s a lot of real-world inspiration on how the city looks. The map is two-and-a-half to three times bigger than the first game, so increasing that scale in every respect was something we fought for — along with more options in combat with her Lunar and Jupiter gravity styles, while also keeping the accessibility that made Gravity Rush so easy to get into.†It’s the Little Things…The focus wasn’t just on the larger elements of the game, however. Toyama-san and his team were keen to make sure there are a ton of details to catch your eye, too. “Making the world seem extremely alive was hugely important for us, especially as the series was coming to PS4. We wanted dense cities and environments, with vibrancy about them. “Every location you visit in the game is an independent floating island, so we wanted to make sure they were all floating correctly and moving independently — this was difficult but we were really focused on getting it right.†The wide range of bystanders in Kat’s adventure aren’t left out in the cold, either. “There are several different interactions you can have — you can walk by them and they’ll react to you in different ways, they can get caught up in your gravity field and get shocked or surprised,†says Toyama-san. “There are lots of animals to look at as well.†Feeling SuperMaintaining influences from classic comic book tales such as Mœbius and Alejandro Jodorowsky’s The Incal, Gravity Rush 2 also features some of Toyama-san’s favorite manga and anime. “I really like Kamen Rider,†laughs Toyama-san, referring to the brilliantly odd-looking Japanese super hero. “So you’ll see even more elements of that in the game. You can also see the Sailor Moon influences, especially when the characters in the game are doing their finishing moves and dynamic poses. “I’d really recommend having Kat pose with other people and props in the new camera mode in the game. There are a lot of goofy possibilities!†Keeping Things LightSpeaking of goofy — even though Kat may find herself in peril and situations may take an occasionally serious turn, Toyama-san is all about keeping things fun. “We wanted to make a positive, upbeat game, but that naturally manifested itself from the concept of controlling gravity,†explains Toyama-san. “It may have been a bit too strange having the story go too dark from that idea, so making it vibrant was something that just gelled. “There are more than 50 side stories that have nice comedic moments that bring personality to Gravity Rush 2. For example, one mission has Kat becoming an action star for a movie, which is filmed in-game. It’s all very light hearted, as you would expect.†View the full article
  23. One of the world’s most popular fighting games is punching its way back onto PlayStation — Bandai Namco’s Tekken 7 entered the E3 2016 ring to prove its worth. We had a chat with Game Director and Chief Producer Katsuhiro Harada who offered some hard-hitting reasons why it’s a game you should be keeping an eye on. Interactive Cutscenes Change the Way You FightPumped up by Unreal Engine 4, Tekken 7 not only looks like it could take most games in a scrap, it also packs a wallop in the gameplay department. Expect a combo of dynamic weather and destructible environments, but better yet: when a fighter’s health is low the battle will slow down during a dramatic blow, driving home the potentially bout-ending strike. And that’s not all — vital moments during story mode seamlessly break into cutscenes which sometimes require you to make a quick decision to avoid additional damage. “We wanted to bring extra intensity without taking the player away from the fight, but also make the game even more fun to watch for when you’re not playing,†says Harada-san. Akuma Brings the Heat from the StreetYou’ve most certainly seen that popular Street Fighter psycho Akuma has crossed over into Bandai Namco’s series — and while it’s not the first time the two franchises have mixed, the red-haired shoto fighter now brings all of his moves to Tekken, something which provided its own set of challenges. “Most people think that it may have been difficult to include Akuma because of things like his projectiles, but lots of Tekken characters have them, and there’s also the ability to sidestep to allow you to get away from them,†explains Harada-san. “The real challenge was portraying him in a similar manner to how he is in Street Fighter because of the difference of how certain moves look in 2D, so we had to work hard to recreate that style, look, and feel in full 3D. “Akuma plays a vital role in the story mode — he’s entered a deal with Kazumi to rid the world of her hateful spouse and son, Kazuya and Heihachi, and by the end of the game the Mishima family’s tale will be over.†Your Rage is Your StrengthThe super powered Rage mode attacks aren’t new to Tekken, but here they’re expanded in two ways — the first are Rage Drives, an attack which can be also used in a combo, resulting in increased damage. “Some Rage Drives can be more defensive than others,†says Harada-san. “We’ve also made them harder to guess as they can be used in high, mid, and low ranges.†Then there’s the Rage Art, which is a powerful finishing move designed to put your foe on his back or, if his health is low enough, deliver a fatal blow. However, there’s a risk involved. “You can deliver massive damage, but only in proportion to how low your health is,†explains Harada-san. “So it can be a life-saver, but you really have to think about when you should use it. More Than Crushing BlowsAnother new feature is the introduction of the Power Crush, which is a brutal armored attack that allows you to complete a move even if you’re taking damage. When used at the right time, it’s a potent force that can change the battle in your favor, with its own risk/reward mechanic. “Skilled players can use this to their advantage, but it won’t go so well for them if they try against low attacks of throws, so you can’t just power your way through each time,†says Harada-san. The World Just Got BiggerArcade players of Tekken 7 may be already familiar with some of the new characters, but Harada-san gave Katarina (Brazil), Claudio (Italy), Lucky Chloe (Japan), Josie (Philippines), and Shaheen (Saudi Arabia) a full outing at E3. With such an eclectic selection, Harada-san explained the team’s character creation process: “We look at the total fan base and divide it into segments to work out what may appeal to certain audiences across the world, or other factors for example female fans, newcomers to the series, or higher end players.†But even with the newer characters, Harada-san still has his old favorites. “First of all, I’d pick Feng Wei, because I’m very comfortable with him and he can adapt well to a variety of different opponents,†says Harada-san. “Then I’d choose Katarina because she’s very intuitive and at first it’s great to feel like you can land attacks successfully on a more advanced player.†Although this also meant Harada-san had an admission to make: “Sometimes I go for Heihachi, although he’s a bit more difficult to master and I’m not a top level player. I’d say I’m actually more an intermediate player!†he laughs. “So I don’t mind being a Devil [Jin] as well…!†The latest instalment of the King of the Iron Fist Tournament is coming out in early 2017 on PS4. 25. We’re very excited to announce that 2064: Read Only Memories will be coming to PS4 and Vita on August 16! I’m a big fan of games that let you explore a new world but also let you carve your name into it. That’s why we’ve worked to really cultivate a complex world for players to explore in a way that’s personalized to them. In 2064: Read Only Memories, you are hurled into a mystery that quickly escalates until you’re in well over your head. You play the role of a journalist trying to find your missing friend while uncovering the truth and hopefully a good story. This journey takes you through the places and people of Neo San Francisco in the year 2064. As you explore, you will meet a host of colorful characters that may help, or hinder, your path to the answers you’re seeking. Initially, our characters could only express themselves through animation and sound effects. Bringing in voice acting added a new layer of expression and immersion that we couldn’t fully explore before. Sometimes tone can easily get lost in the writing, and the addition of voice acting not only helps make things more understandable, but it also greatly complements and strengthens the content that we already had. With our new voices, we’ve worked super hard to find an amazingly talented and diverse cast to tell the story. Some of these characters may be more familiar than you expect, from Melissa Hutchison, voice of Clementine in The Walking Dead, to UpUpDownDown’s Austin Creed (a.k.a. WWE Superstar Xavier Woods), and even Jim Sterling, host of The Jimquisition. You will find 29 fun, scary, goofy, but most importantly very memorable voices in 2064: Read Only Memories. We’ve been sitting on all of these big names and I’m thrilled to finally announce that we’ll be bringing these voices to you exclusively on PS4 and PS Vita consoles on August 16 2016! It will feature cross buy support, because I hate being torn between going portable or having a bigger screen while being confined to a pretty cozy couch. You’ll definitely love 2064: Read Only Memories if you’re a fan of games like Phoenix Wright, Dragon Age, and The Walking Dead. Anyone who loves a good story and interesting characters can easily lose themselves in the world of Neo-SF. Since announcing our game would be joining the PlayStation family of big indie titles, we’ve worked hard on bringing something that we think is really going to push the boundaries of what sort of characters and stories you can expect to find in a game. I know a lot of you have played the demos and met us on the show floors and we thank you for the patience and support and feedback these last few years. We can’t wait to bring our labor of love to PS4 and PS Vita. Hope to see y’all in Neo-SF on August 16! View the full article
