  3. If you know anything about Q-Games, you know that we made a name for ourselves during the PlayStation 3 era with our acclaimed PixelJunk series. Debuting way back in 2007, we were one of the first indies to cut our teeth on the newly released console. Our idea for the series was simple: rework old school gaming concepts in beautiful high-definition visuals, while keeping the easy to learn, difficult to master gameplay that made us fall in love with games in the first place. From the outset of the PlayStation 4 launch, we’ve been bombarded with questions about the bringing some of our most beloved games over from PlayStation 3 to the new console. There have been calls, emails, tweets, Facebook posts, and yes, even the occasional person showing up to our offices to plead the case for the acclaimed series to enter the next generation of the console. Well, I’m happy to announce that day has finally come! Starting August 31st, you’ll be able to delve right back into the PixelJunk world when the games become available on PlayStation Now! We’re super excited to give old a new fans a chance to experience the now classic PS3 games on PlayStation 4. Subscribers to PlayStation Now will get access to: PixelJunk Monsters PixelJunk Eden PixelJunk Shooter PixelJunk Shooter 2 PixelJunk Sidescroller PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap Including the recently released PixelJunk Nom Nom Galaxy and last year’s PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate, both available on PSN for individual purchase, PlayStation 4 is now the destination for PixelJunk games! Some of you might be new to PixelJunk, so here’s a primer to get you started: PixelJunk MonstersInspired by the popular and addictive tower defense genre, PixelJunk Monsters takes the simple real-time strategy concept of building, researching and base defending and presents it in a uniquely attractive style. In the game, Tikiman, a dancing defender-of-the-forest, strategically builds a variety of defense towers in a lush 2D environment with the goal of defending the pathway to your home base (and children!) from an onslaught of threatening monsters. With 20 different stages, dozens of different towers, a gaggle of interesting and infuriating monsters, and most importantly – couch co-op! – PixelJunk Monsters has earned a reputation as one of the most beloved tower defense games of all time. PixelJunk EdenPixelJunk Eden is probably the most abstract game of the PixelJunk series. Picture if you will, a psychedelic platformer where you guide a tiny, silk-spinning ‘grimp’ through the gardens of Eden on a mission to grow each by pollenating flowers and finding precious ‘Spectra’. You grip, jump and swing, destroying “Prowlers†and collecting their pollen which lets you grow more plants to take you further and deeper into the gardens. Lush visuals, slick controls and amazing music by fellow Kyoto native Baiyon make it an incredibly atmospheric and addictive experience. Plus, up to 3 player local co-op! PixelJunk ShooterIn PixelJunk Shooter, you pilot a subterranean exploration vehicle to explore the interior of diverse cave-like complexes. You must affect the surrounding and dynamic terrain to progress. The goal is to safely navigate through each vivid stage and rescue survivors scattered about the cavernous environment. Each stage is in-effect a flow simulation whereby you attempt to control various types of liquid (water, magma, etc) and solid matter (rock, earth) either by destroying it, manipulating it or moving it. These dynamic fluid effects are at the heart of the game’s visuals. Plop down on the couch with a co-pilot for even more fun! PixelJunk Shooter 2Expanding on its innovations of its predecessor PixelJunk Shooter, PixelJunk Shooter 2 is a complex and dynamic fluid simulation system, which fills the game world with flowing liquids and hazardous gases, and provides the game its distinctive style. Blast holes in walls or use your ship itself to drill past scorching hot magma. The fluids react in real-time to the player’s actions and to other liquids, creating unique and exciting situations with every play. The goal of the game is to keep cool (your ship is susceptible to overheating) whilst finding and rescuing the many helpless, stranded survivors. You’ll need to master the deformable terrain, the flowing liquids and the fierce life forms as you proceed deeper into ever more challenging environments. And even more local co-op! Notice a theme here? PixelJunk SidescrollerThe final chapter of the Shooter trilogy! Sidescroller finds our Shooter pilot protagonist killing time on his orher way back home by pumping space quarters into a retro side-scrolling shooter. Reinventing the genre from the ground up while maintaining that nostalgic feeling, PixelJunk SideScroller is a bit of side story fun. Dodge flurries of alien bullets and strategically upgrade your weapons as you battle your way through sweeping stages full of hazardous fluid and endless shooting mayhem. Friends need not wait put their quarter in the queue to play next, because Sidescroller is also sporting local co-op. PixelJunk Racers 2nd LapPixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap is an addictive slot car racing game that features single player and multiplayer fun. Intuitive controls, 32 different race modes, and online rankings will provide countless hours of racing mayhem. Racers is the granddaddy of the PixelJunk series and also with local co-op king! Up to 7 players can hit the track, making it a great party game. PlayStation Now includes 140+ games, from blockbuster hits to indie gems—like the PixelJunk series—and everything in-between. We hope you’ll give the service a try for yourself. Click here to start your 7-Day FREE Trial. View the full article

  6. Hello again, PlayStation.Blog! Ben here from the indie studio Wales Interactive. Today I have the pleasure of announcing our upcoming PS4 game, the sci-fi adventure-puzzler Soul Axiom! Before we delve into the digital afterlife, we’ve got a brand new story trailer to show you! On top of that, if you’re looking for more gameplay action from our early development stage then can watch that here So, what’s it all about? Well, in first-person, you’ll explore the world of Elysia, a sprawling digital server where memories and dreams become reality. Anyone who fancies the idea of uploading their soul for digital immortality should look no further! Along your journey you’ll collect a range of unique hand powers and use these to manipulate or destroy parts of the environment, which will aid in solving cryptic logic puzzles to progress through the game. To get a better understanding of what these powers are, I’ll introduce to your very first, known as the “Phase†power. With this ability you can essentially materialize and dematerialize objects or walls with the left and right hand respectively. Combining this with other abilities makes for some really… puzzling puzzles. If you happen to recognize some of the features or visuals you see, chances are you’ve played or at least heard about the adventure horror game, Master Reboot on PS3? Well, Soul Axiom is indeed the spiritual successor, set in the same universe but not a direct sequel. This is a completely new game made from the ground up, built on better foundations and featuring new game mechanics, a whole new host of characters, 40 unique locations, and a compelling storyline with multiple endings. When you start the game you are literally dropped into the action with no idea who or where you are. We give you little guidance, but the levels are intuitive and you have to find your own way through the puzzle solving in order to piece together the story as you go along. It’s very important for us to give the player respect to find their own way as there is more satisfaction when you feel that you have solved a puzzle or found out a key bit of information about the story. It’s then up to the player to go on a journey of discovery in order to find out who they are and why they are there. You can find out more about the game by visiting the website. Soul Axiom’s PS4 release date is currently being decided, but as we’re nearing the end of development, expect to see another announcement soon with more details on that. The Wales Interactive team would love to hear your thoughts! If you have any questions then leave your comments below. Diolch yn fawr iawn (Thank you very much) for joining me today! 10. Hi! We’re called Ice-Pick Lodge, and we’re happy to announce that September 10th will mark the PS4 launch of Knock Knock — a creepy horror game with a rather unusual backstory. What do you, a small-to-mid-sized indie studio, do when an e-mail pops up full of mysterious scribbles, notes, and audio files — coupled with a vague description of a possible game? In all honesty, more often than not you probably try to conjure up a polite and friendly response; perhaps discuss the sender’s ideas with them. But that’s not what happened at Ice-Pick Lodge studios in November 2011. Instead of doing the sensible thing, we set to create a horror game that would incorporate the disturbing nature and the subtly sinister undertones of the .zip archive we were sent while also avoiding the genre cliches like gore, asylums, or jump scares. It feels nice to give yourselves quests. Many innovative and charming games begin with an idea longing to be implemented, with a desire to try out a new mechanic or, say, combine certain traditions. Knock Knock is not so different in this regard — it’s just that our quest was to recreate a place, a feeling, and an idea first captured in a set of disjointed snippets, bits, and pieces that we extracted from the archive. There were audio files that ended up becoming “Lodger speak†— the incomprehensible speech of the game’s main character, the Lodger. There were images and text files that made us realize that the game is set in a cabin lost in the woods. Finally, the very fact of making a game based on an archive from an anonymous source provided Knock Knock with its central motif: the fear of the unknown. We were — and still are — a bit afraid of what we’ve done, you see. Even those of us who were positive it was nothing more than a prank. Why does it matter, anyway? Whether the cabin was located in some real woods or in the mindscape of a very peculiar person, it’s still real in the world of ideas. And the world of ideas was real enough for us to find a note saying “You’ve forgotten someone†when we later went to a forest to fulfill some of the Kickstarter backer rewards (Knock Knock has indeed been successfully kickstarted, and one of the tiers promised that we would plant a tree for the backer). The Lodger’s fears spawn from his own close-mindedness, taking the shape of so-called Guests that visit his cabin and engage in a game of creepy hide-and-seek (Hide-and-sick?) with him. The only thing the Lodger needs to do to win is to survive until dawn. Is it true? Or is he supposed to break the rules created with his own fearful mind? What if it’s all merely a nightmarish prank? Whatever the correct answer is, we did our best to deliver it subtly. The cabin itself is cozy, and the woods you set to explore from time to time are picturesque. So what is wrong with this place? Most human fears boil down to the fact that we reject the alien and the unknown. We fear the dark because something may be there; we indulge in various types of xenophobia because there are a lot of things in this world that simply do not make sense to us. A cleaver-wielding zombie may be frightening as hell, especially if you’re fragile and lack the means to defend yourself, but we honestly believe that an inexplicable creature set about its own business is even more so. It may not even necessarily present a threat, but by god how does its shape even hold together?! That is not how bodies work at all! Coupled with the fact that there may or may not be some twisted game going on with the protagonist being the main player, it works to recreate the disconnected mood of the archive rather well. And it’s not us patting ourselves on the back; after the game was first released, the spooky sender has contacted us once again, claiming we’ve made several mistakes, but got the general gist just right. Knock Knock is a pocket of chaos that serves as a direct contradiction to the belief that the world can be made sense of at all; multiple in-game systems (some of them suggested by our dubious benefactor — seemingly for no reason at all) overlap, creating an ever-evolving situation that keeps the player on their toes. But chaos is unavoidably broken into patterns. That’s just how human mind works — including the mind of our poor protagonist. Perhaps this is what it’s all about. And, well, that’s better than nothing. When you stare into the darkness, anything is better than nothing — even a doppelganger of yours staring back at you blindly. (That is, of course, not a random metaphor, but something that can be encountered in Knock Knock.) The horror genre is extremely robust these days — and whatever the origins of the e-mail were, we’re more than happy that someone or something has given us a nudge to add to it while scaring ourselves witless in the process. Now we hope that the black box that is Knock Knock will continue to serve its purpose. Whatever it is. View the full article

  15. Hey everyone! Nathan from Capy here again. As you probably noticed, Super Time Force Ultra is coming to PS4 and PS Vita on September 1st, free for PS Plus members (and $14.99 for everyone else). The game is cross buy, has a Platinum Trophy, and lets you explode robots and/or dinosaurs and/or angels. The last time I was on the blog, I shared our PlayStation-exclusive additions to the Super Time Force: President of Sony Computer Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida, the traveler from Journey, and Sir Galahad from The Order: 1886. This time I am here to share a whopping 14 facts that you probably didn’t know about Super Time Force Ultra. All of these facts are 100% true, 0% exaggerated, and 1000% awesome. Some are also really quite dumb. Let’s dive in! 1.) Super Time Force Ultra’s main character and reckless leader, CDR. Repeatski is actually based off Capy co-founder Matt Repetski, right down to the earrings and certain verbal expressions. Matt, however, does not wear two eye-patches… we added those for character. 2.) Lou Don Jim’s laser sword is called a Light Saver. Repeat after me: Light. Saver. 3.) We worked on the game for the better part of a year before adding the game’s key feature: the Time-Out mechanic. Previous to that, time would automatically rewind to the beginning of a level only after the player had died. It took us awhile to figure out that this was seriously impacting the length and depth of level, enemy, and boss designs. It was also frustrating as heck. The addition of the Time-Out mechanic changed everything and ended up defining the game. 4.) After a successful debut of the Time-Out mechanic at PAX East, Kenneth Yeung (programmer/designer), Kris Piotrowski (Capy creative director), and Dan Vader (designer) celebrated by eating more than 100 oysters in a single sitting. 5.) Capy artist Vic Nguyen hid a 1-frame smiley face in one of the explosion animations that appears throughout the game. Players who are paying attention and slowly rewinding back through time can spot this happy subliminal message. 6.) We made a single, endlessly-scrolling, eye-scorching collection of Super Time Force Ultra GIF’s we call The Wall of Gifsanity. It is perhaps our finest achievement. Behold. 7.) Some of the characters that didn’t make the final cut: US Citizen Ninja, Robo Constable, Jesus, and Normal House Cat. There was also a character with a fully functional grappling hook as well as a “portalâ€-ing character. They were cut because they broke every single level in the game. 8.) The police antagonists that appear in the game don the name “SWAZ†rather than “SWAT†as a tribute to the late American actor Patrick Swayze. There is also a copy of the 1988 movie Tiger Warsaw permanently glued to the Capy fridge. 9.) All death screams used in the game were recorded by audio director Sean Lohrisch from inside his bedroom closet to reduce the chance of frightening his neighbours and/or having the police called on him. Sean himself screamed for the male cast, while musician 6955’s wife Kahori screamed for the women. There are also two appearances of the famous Wilhelm scream, both during boss battles. 10.) More than 20 different enemy types didn’t make it into the final game, including spin kicking ninjitsu priests, pogostick-riding football robots, werewolf mermaids, and blackhole fur balls from another dimension. 11.) A few of the reasons for the game’s Teen rating include one image that contains 2 pixels of “butt crackâ€, as well as the game containing numerous instances of “poo coils†(those are ESRB’s exact terms), and usage of the word “fudge.†12.) Originally, the button icons used for the time rewind controls were the “play,†“rewind†and “fast forward†buttons that you see on a VCR. Then we realized that a lot of the players who will play the game probably have never seen a VCR. We then proceeded to feel pretty old. 13.) Dolphin Lundgren was originally called Soniq the Dolphin. He wore a pair of oversized red sneakers and shot out golden rings as his attack. It was a lawsuit waiting to happen. It was also pretty, pretty, pretty funny. 14.) The original game jam version of the game was called Super Time Squad, which had some fair-sized trademark-related issues. The team rallied around the new name, Super Time Force, partly because we wanted to make a version called Super Time Force Ultra… or STFU. Other names we were considering for the game were: Re/Run (in hindsight, this is a rad name!) The Endless 6 (when we thought we’d only have 6 characters) Timeliners Super Time Defenders (this didn’t abbreviate well) Space Heroes In Time (this also didn’t abbreviate well) So there you have it. Tons of facts about Super Time Force Ultra, which comes out next week on PS4 and PS Vita. Whether you’re a PlayStation Plus member or not, do us a favor and check this bonkers game out on September 1st. Kookabunga, folks. View the full article
  16. Hello, Pawel from 11 bit studios, here. I’m very proud to introduce to you our latest project, something we’ve been working on for the past year and tailoring to PS4. This is a very unusual project: a serious game made for a mature gamer; an experience that will tackle your emotions heavily. And now this very unusual project is unveiled. Ladies and Gentlemen, let me tell you about This War of Mine: The Little Ones, coming to PS4 on January 29th, 2016. This War of Mine: The Little Ones explores the hardships of wartime survival as seen from an entirely new perspective: that of a child. Based on the award-winning This War of Mine, The Little Ones puts you in charge of a group of adults and children stuck in the middle of hell, trying to survive in a besieged city; struggling with lack of food, medicine and constant danger. The question is: how far will you go to make it through another day? This experience focuses not only on the reality of enduring war, but also the fact that even in times of conflict, kids are still kids — they laugh, cry, play with toys and see the world differently. In addition to thinking about survival, you’ll have to bring back the kid in yourself to understand how to protect the little ones. This sounds very serious, right? Because it is. Our goal as developers was to create a mature experience in which you’re seeing war through eyes of regular people — so not a military action, but a horrible challenge to overcome. As a group of civilians you’ll be facing extremely difficult choices that have to be made just to survive the war: what do you do when you have to sacrifice someone? What do you do when you’re starving but other survivors may have food? You’ll need to get it as well as medication, bandages, and the like. When you run out of necessities, you’ll need to send one man on a mission to scavenge for any supplies. But kids are not as tough as adults — and you will be the ones taking care of them. During the night maybe you’ll find some parts that can be used to fix a toy, which children can then play with during the day — kids still need entertainment after all. But kids also need to talk to someone and feel safe, so don’t forget that as well. Kids create bonds with those who protect them and that’s also portrayed in the game. Again, very serious, right? We’ve had this idea from the very beginning of the development of This War of Mine but we were worried that people may not have been ready for such a serious game. Perhaps even quite a shocking one. But the reception of the game was brilliant — we got tons of positive feedback and acknowledgement for showing war as it was. So the next big step was expanding it by bringing kids to This War of Mine. Now, you’ll be able to experience it on PS4. The main philosophy behind this project is to portray emotions of people surviving a siege of a city. That also requires picturing emotions of kids — that means not only sadness, but laughter, excitement, and a bit of craziness despite the surroundings. Their active imaginations are also being portrayed, for example you’ll see children even drawing on the walls of the shelter. We feel that the spectrum of the emotions your civilians will make you experience has now broadened greatly. And since we’re on PlayStation.Blog, there’s another piece of news we think you’ll be glad to hear: the PS4 edition of This War of Mine: The Little Ones will actually contain an exclusive extra shelter known as the Large Mansion. The daytime phase of the game takes place in your shelter and this is where you’ll be caring for survivors and making the tough decisions — so factors like how the building is shaped, how many floors it has, how well it’s fortified and prepared as a potential hideout all have a huge influence over the gameplay itself. As a result, PS4 players are going to be getting a unique experience here with this new shelter being a part of the game (although you can of course still play in the original shelters, too). We’ve spent tons of time in building up this new shelter in the game, spent an enormous amount of time playtesting it, and we can’t wait for you guys to be able to check it out. Ready for a serious game? I hope so, and if you have any questions, I’ll be ready to answer them in the comment section. View the full article
  17. You may be asking yourself, “Thief Town? What’s that?†Well, it’s only the latest in multiplayer Thief-related action, with graphics that look so real! Now, you may be screaming, “Wow! So cool!†Thief Town is a local multiplayer stealth party game for 2-4 players, coming exclusively to PS4 on Tuesday, September 29th. Stab your buddies in a pixel-perfect rendition of the Wild West. Yee-haw!! You and your friends play as the Thieves, who need to sneak around the Town to try and stab the other players. The only problem is, every player looks exactly alike. Not only that, but the Town is also filled with identical-looking computer-controlled Thieves. You’ve got to disguise yourself in the crowd while figuring out which Thieves are actually your friends. Once you find ’em, stab ’em! Get points and win the game! You can’t just go around stabbing everyone in Thief Town. You’ll only get points by stabbing the other players. If you stab an NPC, the only thing you’ll do is reveal yourself! So be sneaky and make that first stab count, because that harmless Thief behind you might just be another player… Lurk in the crowd, emulate non-player characters, and achieve backstabbing victory. These are the laws that Thief Town was founded upon. The game mode we just described is appropriately called “Thief Town,†a standard round where you hide in the crowd and stab your friends for points. The full package comes with three game modes, two arenas, tons of items, and PS4 bonus features! Spy Town gives players items to trick and trap enemy Thieves before going in for the kill. Use smoke bombs, motion detectors, and teleportation devices to gain an advantage… but be careful, they’re one-use only! Drunk Town is a 1v3 round where one player becomes “The Sheriff,†whose job is to sniff out and shoot those pesky Thieves with his pistol. Too bad the Thieves don’t have their knives this time — they’ll just have to behave until time or the Sheriff’s bullets run out! Thief Town also has two Towns: the Wild West and Spooky Town. Giant, killer tumbleweeds and camouflaging sand storms ravage the Wild West, while Spooky Town’s creepy statues and lightning storms help to reveal the location of players. We’ve also included a number of awesome PS4-exclusive features. Stab your touchpad with your finger to stab your friend in the game! Customize your Thief with 256 potential names, like “Cross-Circle-Square-Squareâ€, or “Triangle-Triangle-Cross-Triangleâ€! We’ve also hidden some secret screen filters in “The Saloon,†our game’s interactive menu… If you’ve enjoyed local multiplayer games like Sportsfriends or Towerfall: Ascension, we invite you to further sharpen your social skills with Thief Town. The team at Glass Knuckle Games has been working really hard to ensure that couch multiplayer remains alive and well, so be sure to grab Thief Town if your parties are lacking some healthy, sneaky competition. You’ll be able to start stabbin’ on September 29th. Got questions about Thief Town? Excited about Wild West antics? Let us know below! Be sneaky, be crafty… View the full article
  18. Hey everyone! We have a very special character joining the Street Fighter V roster today! It’s none other than the 7-Colored Bomber herself, Rainbow Mika! Having made her first and only appearance (until now) in Street Fighter Alpha 3, R. Mika has long been a fan-favorite, and we’re super stoked to bring her back after a long absence from the series. As a flamboyant young wrestler, Mika dreamed of one day becoming a star in the ring, much like her idol Zangief. Training under the strict tutelage of her coach, she traveled the world engaging in random matches with street fighters in order to spread her name and popularity. Above: R. Mika in Street Fighter Alpha 3 R. Mika’s wrestling prowess will be on full display in Street Fighter V, as she dazzles opponents with a large variety of high-flying moves. This time around, her wrestling tag-team partner Nadeshiko also assists in the fight! By calling Nadeshiko at the right time using R. Mika’s V-Trigger ability, you’ll be able to setup sneaky attacks and punishing command grab mix-ups that are sure to knock the stuffing out of your opponent. Players who enjoy close-combat guessing games and striking fear into the hearts of opponents will find R. Mika an absolute delight to play. V-Skill: Mic Performance R. Mika pulls out her trusty microphone and gives a heart-pumping monologue to the crowd. The longer the buttons are held down, the more powerful her normal and special throws become! During her monologue state, she is able to absorb one hit from the opponent and can also cancel the speech at any time by letting go of the buttons, causing her to fling the mic at the opponent. V-Trigger: Nadeshiko (3 Variations) Now this is wrestling! Depending on the direction held during the V-Trigger activation, R. Mika’s faithful tag-team partner will deliver a surprising, high flying attack at the opponent from different angles: neutral (body splash from above), hold back (dropkick from the front), hold forward (dropkick from behind). The different variations keep opponents guessing and afraid to hit buttons, perfectly setting up R. Mika’s damaging command throws. Fans lucky enough to be attending PAX Prime this weekend in Seattle will have a chance to try out R. Mika at the Capcom booth, so be sure to swing by to see how she plays! View the full article

  20. Long-time Transformers fans know that every single robot-in-disguise has a very specific personality. Grimlock, for instance, probably wouldn’t be described as “neighborly†and Sideswipe isn’t always interested in playing by the rules, but both have a fondness for combat. Optimus Prime, on the other hand, would always prefer a diplomatic solution. Platinum Games, the developer behind Transformers: Devastation, spent a lot of time trying to match each character’s personality with a complementary fighting style. Bumblebee, for example, attacks faster than any other Autobot, but he sacrifices a fair amount of power. And Wheeljack’s mechanical ingenuity translates into an attack pattern that centers on ranged weapons. Along with their individual sense of style and timing, every character also has his own set of unique moves and mechanics. So, just because you’ve mastered Optimus Prime’s combos doesn’t mean that Grimlock will be a cakewalk. Activision has also unveiled the bonuses that super fans will receive when they pre-order a copy of the game. Players who purchase or reserve Transformers: Devastation before it crash-lands on October 6th will get a DLC bundle that includes six digital goodies. So, what’s in the bundle? I’m glad you asked. Aside from the five playable Autobots, anyone who pre-orders Transformers: Devastation will get a trio of specialized character skins. So, if names like Nemesis Prime, Red Alert, and Goldfire make you giggle like an excited little kid, you may want to spend a little time on PlayStation Store. Platinum Games is also including three unique pieces of equipment, which is kind of a big deal. Like the combat system, the developer put a lot of work into creating an extraordinary library of weapons, making sure every armament is one-of-a-kind and thoroughly balanced. So, the fact that Platinum crafted these three pieces of DLC specifically for pre-order customers should make you feel very special. Here’s what’s on the table: The Dark Star Saber is a fiercely intimidating blade that radiates waves of dark energy with every swing. The Photon Disruptor is an incredibly powerful, shotgun-style weapon that has a short range but deals huge amounts of area damage. The twin Golden Hunter is a pair of blaster pistols that causes enemies to drop credits when attacked. Transformers: Devastation will hit on October 6th, but pre-orders are already available on PlayStation Store. And don’t forget to follow the Transformers on Facebook for concept art, screenshots, and video. View the full article

  23. Hello again, space people! Let’s talk Capsule Force, which is out today on PS4. But this time… let’s go over how to destroy your opponents while playing! But first, the basics: In Capsule Force, your primary objective is to ride a tram into your opponent’s base and steal the capsule before they can steal yours. Early matches might be more of a spamfest, but once you and your opponents ramp up, every death will count — you must learn the techniques and abilities of a master if you wish to lead your team to victory! Shield Pulse Your first technique to master is the Shield Pulse. Activate the shield by tapping the Circle button on your controller. In Capsule Force, shields are quick and must be timed precisely — you must be one with the shield. Shield Pulse can deflect both opposing players and projectiles. Hit the button as soon as a projectile is about to strike to deflect it back in the direction it came from! If you successfully deflect a bullet, the shield will instantly recharge (which can make for some insane bullet volleying matches). Hot Tip: Unlike firing your weapon, shielding won’t stop the tram (you can bump the opponent off of a tram with the shield)! Dash Fully charged energy beams are unblockable, but skilled players take advantage of the Dash ability! Hold down the direction you want to move, and hit R2 to execute a Dash. Dashing will allow you to phase through normal shots, energy beam shots, and energy-based environmental hazards. Be sure to watch your back! When your dash finishes there’s a brief window of vulnerability! Infinite Jumping Now that you’re a pro at dashing and shield wielding, let’s take this dance to the air! Normal players jump and double jump, but to get some epic retro-anime air battles, we wanted to add the ability for infinite jumping! Any time you shoot, dash, or shield, your double-jump resets; alternate using jumping and another action for unlimited aerial fighting! Blast Jumping One of the most challenging and useful techniques to master is the Blast Jump. Aim your gun at the ground, and fire a normal shot — once the shot explodes on the ground, Jump! Were you hurled into the air? It’s a bit tricky to pull off — make sure your fire before you jump (the key is to jump while the explosion is there). Experiment with shooting the ground at different angles to change the direction and speed at which you fly. Master all of the above techniques to become an unstoppable Capsule Force train of destruction! But before you can do that, go get Capsule Force for PS4 today! View the full article
  24. Dishonored originally released on PS3 in 2012, offering a rich new world full of interesting characters that let players pretty much play however they wanted. Example: Placing a Spring Razor trap on a rat, possessing it, and then running it into a gaggle of guards. Flawless victory (unless you’re going for a Low Chaos, non-lethal playthrough). Starting today, players can form and attempt new strategies and playstyles (or re-enact some old favorites) on PS4 with Dishonored Definitive Edition. We asked Harvey Smith and Raf Colantonio — Dishonored’s co-creative directors — for some insight on their favorite parts of Dishonored, and why they’re excited to see it on PS4. No spoilers, but what’s one of your favorite things about Dishonored? Harvey: For me, it’s probably combining Blink with stealth. Near the end of the project, we gave Blink to all players as part of the basic movement package. We found it surprising how much it transformed the experience. Players were suddenly able to move around the guard patrols, horizontally and vertically. Ghosting the game became a lot more fun. In a way, it enables “fast stealth,†which was one of original goals, after Raf and I spent some time brainstorming with Doug Church, one of our heroes. Raf: I love doing playthroughs using only one power, like Possession. That kind of self-imposed constraint makes the game more interesting. I love inhabiting fish and rats to sneak around. Why are you excited to see Dishonored on PS4? Harvey:It would have been sad to see the game fade because of the console cycle change. We love Dishonored and want people to keep playing it into the new generation. Does Dishonored Definitive Edition take advantage of any of PS4’s unique features? Harvey: We’ve utilized some PS4 features. Most notably, you’ll hear game sounds through the controller’s speaker such as the Power whispers, the sibylline voice of the Heart, and the use of the Spyglass. Raf: We’ve also enabled PS Vita Remote Play, as well as use of DualShock 4’s Touch Pad for use of the “Heart†for Corvo and “Void Gaze†for Daud. Dishonored is all about choices the player can make. Any Arkane insider protips to offer? Raf: Let’s see, this is a good one: You can jump off a high building and Possess a guard or other character on the street below, as you’re falling, and you won’t take any falling damage. Harvey: Yeah, that’s an advanced technique. Mostly, I advise people to play through multiple times, because later playthroughs – especially if you’re trying to be stealthy or nonlethal – are richer somehow, in my opinion. What else… Some people don’t realize you can steal items off the belts of characters walking around. Also, don’t forget to block in combat. Dishonored Definitive Edition includes the original game, along with all its additional content – Dunwall City Trials, The Knife of Dunwall, The Brigmore Witches and Void Walker’s Arsenal. It launches today on PlayStation 4. View the full article
  25. You know that feeling when you’re at home totally ready to jump into a game? So you look through your games library and you think to yourself man, I really want to play this action-packed, real-time game! Wait, no, actually I’m feeling this thoughtful, turn-based strategy game. What to do? Why can’t I have both? Well, we feel your pain, and we’ve worked hard to bring to you Nova-111 — a quirky, sci-fi adventure game that combines both the depth of turn-based games with the thrill of real-time action! Nova-111 puts you in control of a charming orange science rescue vessel in the aftermath of the World’s Greatest Science Experiment (gone wrong). The peaceful turn-based world has been entangled with the real-time universe, distorting space and time. Your goal is to save the 111 scientists that were lost in the vortex and restore the flow of time. Along your journey, you will battle aliens, solve puzzles, and collect upgrades like the Time-Stop module to manipulate time. The game itself starts off as a strategic turn-based adventure game, but as time gradually unravels, new enemies emerge that begin to exhibit weird real-time behaviors. The best among you will learn the tricks of the enemies, and master the unique timing and strategy in order to emerge victorious and unscathed. Use your smarts to overcome each enemy encounter in our hand-crafted world, and you will revel in the satisfying glow of conquering each challenge that the game throws at you. Nova-111 is available today on PS4, with the PS3 and PS Vita versions coming in September. Nova-111 is a cross buy game, so you’ll be able to embark on your cosmic voyage from whatever Playstation device you fancy. So if this all sounds good to you, please check it out! And I truly hope you will enjoy Nova-111 as much as we’ve enjoyed making it for y’all! View the full article
