  1. Welcome back to PlayStation Underground, our online show about video games! Today, we scream through the post-apocalyptic sands of the Wasteland in Mad Max on PS4. With grease, bullets, and a little gasoline, we’ll help Max take down an enemy camp and survive a torrential lightning storm. Our trusted (and daring) guide Daniel McGuffey from WB gives us this white-knuckle tour through the open-world of Mad Max, and may also drive the Magnum Opus clear off a cliff. All in the name of quality entertainment, folks. Mad Max is out now on PS4, and PlayStation owners have access to 12 exclusive hood ornaments to decorate their metallic steed. Bonus: Fury Road is now 25% off for PS Plus members, if your hungry for more of the Wasteland. Let us know what you think in the comments, and remember that we’ll be back soon with more Underground in the weeks to come. Enjoy the show! View the full article
  2. Hi! I’m the game designer on Leo’s Fortune and I’m here to tell you more about our game before it arrives on PS4 September 8th. We (1337 & Senri) are a small team of three independent game developers from Gothenburg, Sweden. But I haven’t always been indie. Before this I was the lead designer on Battlefield 2 at DICE. The reason I went from AAA blockbusters to making indie games is because I had a desire to make games the way I want to, with the type of creative vision and attention to detail that isn’t possible at a big studio. With each game we make we try to add our innovative spin and personal touch on a genre we love. Leo’s Fortune is our take on the classic platformer. We took classic platforming elements and put our spin on it by adding physics-based puzzles, painstakingly handcrafted graphics, and an original story with fully voiced cutscenes. In Leo’s Fortune you’ll guide Leopold on a quest to recover his stolen gold fortune and uncover the mystery of who stole it. Along the way you’ll encounter some of Leo’s quirky and suspicious family members like Uncle Sergey and Cousin Victor. When you play Leo’s Fortune or check out our trailer, we hope you’ll notice the quality and effort we put into the graphics and environments. Most platform games are designed using a set of repeating texture tiles. We chose not to make our lives any easier and did not use a tile system. Instead, each level in Leo’s Fortune is one enormous unique panoramic image, created from scratch. We even developed our own game engine from scratch. This is why we often refer to the game as “handcrafted.†We could’ve made this game more easily using off-the-shelf tools, but we don’t think the result would have been the same. Designed to meet the quality of a console game, Leo’s Fortune first released as a mobile game where it helped raise the bar of expectations for what a mobile game can be and won some neat awards in the process. We’re proud to have resolutely decided our game would be 100% premium with no free-to-play elements, a difficult decision in the market today. Now we’re proud to present you with the best version of Leo’s Fortune, gloriously rendered with a 1080p graphical upgrade. So please enjoy Leo’s Fortune on PS4 when it launches on September 8th, and let us know what you think when you find out who stole his gold. View the full article

  4. We’ve been busy preparing our next major system software update for PS4, version 3.00 (codename: Kenshin). The update is packed with content, and we wanted to give you a quick glance at its key features. If you were selected for our beta program, you’ll get to see these features first-hand very soon. Keep in mind, some of this content might not make it into the final version — that’s why we’re having a beta, after all. We’ve added new ways to connect with friends and players around the world, expanding the social capabilities of the system even further. Online storage capacity increase — PS4 online storage capacity has increased from 1GB to 10GB for all PS Plus members. In 3.00 system software, you’ll see that we added a handy usage meter to monitor your available storage capacity, and a new Auto-Upload menu has been added to Application Saved Data Management. YouTube live — PS4 owners will be able to livestream gameplay to YouTube. Livestreams will be viewable across YouTube, including on the new YouTube Gaming mobile app and website. Events — A new hub for events has been added, giving an overview of activities taking place in the games you play most, as well as official broadcasts. For instance, you may see an update for a Double XP weekend, a special enemy appearing at a scheduled time, or seasonal events like in-game towns being decorated for the winter. You’ll also receive notifications when the event starts, or if the timing changes. Favorite Groups — Favorite Groups has been added to the Friends app, letting you quickly access groups of people you like to play games with frequently. This will make the process of getting a game session up and running even easier. Communities — PS4 users will have the ability to create communities based around shared interests, like games, genres, and more. Communities include a message board with general discussion, screenshots shared by players, and the ability to join parties / games. If you want to tackle a big multiplayer raid, but don’t have enough friends available, this could be a great way to connect with other players who are looking for the same thing. Sharing video clips to Twitter — Users will have the ability to share video clips directly to Twitter. Maximum video length is 10 seconds, though you’ll have the ability to trim longer clips. Stickers — Tired of typing out messages? With this update, you’ll be able to send stickers to friends through your messages. Now Playing / What’s New — The Now Playing screen will display even more information about what your friends are doing, and you’ll be able to quickly jump into a game, party, request a screen share, or get sent to the PS Store to buy the game your friend is playing – further enhancing the social relationship with your friends online. Live from PlayStation — We’ve improved the Live From PlayStation app, making it easier to view popular trending broadcasts in real time. Request to watch gameplay — Want to view a friend’s gameplay session? Now you can send a ‘Request to Watch’ notification to a player, which will start a live broadcast or Share Play invitation to the person playing. There’s more included in this update, but that’s a quick glance at some of the items we’re excited about the most. We’ll be back with more info about Kenshin soon, including the launch timing. 6. The Wasteland is a destructive, wild, and savagely endless expanse. Max needs to brave these harsh conditions, to embrace the madness and violence to find the peace he so desperately seeks. On your journey, it’d be easy to be consumed by the thirst and hunger, and to miss the hidden gems that lie buried beneath the concrete and dust, behind the battles and between the points of respite to the plains of silence. We want players to take the time to stop, take a breather, and dig deeper as they travel across the world. Countless things are there to find, out of plain sight, some obvious and others subtle. We hope players will discover the riches of the world as they explore and seek the means to survive. It’s as much about the journey as it is the destination. Here are five things we hope players experience within the open-world Wasteland. What once was a vibrant place of life and color, now only has faded remnants of the old world trying to break through the cracked asphalt like a pervasive weed. The player has a massive open world to explore with the tools to discover and unveil its shrouded or forgotten secrets. Waste not, want not is the ethos of the people here. Critters can be found scuttling across the sands or soaring above wasteland leftovers. These can make for a quick snack on the fly, but you need to be quick on your feet and faster on the draw. Not everything lies above the sand — beneath it, where it’s cool and dark, others have made a home and keep things of great value. Buzzard lairs aren’t the only subterranean spaces to explore. The best way to infiltrate an enemy camp isn’t always the “head-on, smash and crash†approach. Subterfuge and illusion can often be as effective and deadly as a Thunderpoon to the face! Wastelanders value vehicles as a safe haven, a weapon, a prize, and a symbol of great importance and value. Enemy camps or loot locations sometimes hold one of these like a jewel in a crown. Culture and an appreciation for beauty can still exist, even in the harshest of environments. Relics tell the story of the time before the world fell. Images of a long-forgotten normality and its decline into chaos. These weave the story of the people from before into the lore of the wasteland, their scrawling not understood by those who hold them. 7. Hey everyone, it’s T.K. back again on PlayStation.Blog. I’ve had the pleasure of being able to peek in time-to-time to talk about the latest and greatest titles from Konami on PlayStation platforms, but today by far outranks them all. I am incredibly proud to announce the launch of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain on PS4 and PS3, available today on disc and via PlayStation Store. Metal Gear Solid, for those uninitiated, is the decade-spanning, globe-trotting, epic spy saga about the consequences of war, nuclear détente, and occasionally cardboard boxes. The latest entry, The Phantom Pain, takes place 9 years after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (also available on PS4/PS3) as the legendary soldier Big Boss wakes from his long coma since the events of Ground Zeroes. With the fire of revenge burning in his heart, he sets out to rebuild his former mercenary legion with allies new and old, and swears vengeance upon Skullface and the mysterious XOF organization. Lucky for Boss, he has a big, beautiful playground to work with. Boasting a map bigger than all previous games combined, you will plan, execute, and command the battlefield. And when you finally fight your way to the end of the conclusion to this secret chapter of Metal Gear history, the war rages on in our online Forward Operating Base mode, which pits you in a 1-on-1 match to attack (or defend) critical materials from fellow players around the world! If squad vs. squad is more your tune, we have our full-blown multiplayer coming October 6th, which gives you plenty of time to tackle the massive single-player mode. Need more field support while you are tackling tough missions? Grab The Phantom Pain companion App for in-depth second screen functionality and tactical support, also available starting today for iOS and Android devices. So, to recap, amazing story, massive gameplay, and great multiplayer all in one package. What are you waiting for? We hope you’ll enjoy Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. View the full article
  8. Ever since we revealed Star Wars Battlefront at Star Wars Celebration, you’ve been asking us if there would be a Beta. Today, we are thrilled to finally be able to answer that question, and the answer is yes! Coming in early October to PS4, the Star Wars Battlefront Beta is a technical test and will feature Walker Assault on Hoth, a 40-player multiplayer battle featuring Rebels and the Empire. Walker Assault will also give you the chance to play as two of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars universe: Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. The Beta will also feature our Survival Mission on Tatooine, where you and a Rebel friend must fight back waves of Imperial forces. In addition to those two modes, we are excited to reveal a brand-new mode that will be available in the Beta, Drop Zone. We’ll be sharing more details on Drop Zone in the weeks ahead. As part of the Star Wars Battlefront Beta we are also happy to reveal the Star Wars Battlefront Companion experience. Available during the Beta on the official site, the Star Wars Battlefront Companion experience features the strategic card game Base Command, and lets you earn in-game Credits that unlock Star Cards, weapons, and more in Star Wars Battlefront. In addition to Base Command, the Companion also lets Rebels and Imperials alike check game stats and progression, customize loadouts and appearance, connect with friends, and get notified when they’re playing Star Wars Battlefront — as well as gather intel on their stats and progression so you can see how you match up! The Star Wars Battlefront Companion will be available on web, the Apple App Store and Google Play store prior to the release of Star Wars Battlefront on November 17th. We’ll have a lot more info regarding the Star Wars Battlefront Beta in the weeks ahead, so be sure to stay tuned to PlayStation.Blog, follow us on social, and sign-up for our newsletter to get all the latest news. 11. If you know anything about Q-Games, you know that we made a name for ourselves during the PlayStation 3 era with our acclaimed PixelJunk series. Debuting way back in 2007, we were one of the first indies to cut our teeth on the newly released console. Our idea for the series was simple: rework old school gaming concepts in beautiful high-definition visuals, while keeping the easy to learn, difficult to master gameplay that made us fall in love with games in the first place. From the outset of the PlayStation 4 launch, we’ve been bombarded with questions about the bringing some of our most beloved games over from PlayStation 3 to the new console. There have been calls, emails, tweets, Facebook posts, and yes, even the occasional person showing up to our offices to plead the case for the acclaimed series to enter the next generation of the console. Well, I’m happy to announce that day has finally come! Starting August 31st, you’ll be able to delve right back into the PixelJunk world when the games become available on PlayStation Now! We’re super excited to give old a new fans a chance to experience the now classic PS3 games on PlayStation 4. Subscribers to PlayStation Now will get access to: PixelJunk Monsters PixelJunk Eden PixelJunk Shooter PixelJunk Shooter 2 PixelJunk Sidescroller PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap Including the recently released PixelJunk Nom Nom Galaxy and last year’s PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate, both available on PSN for individual purchase, PlayStation 4 is now the destination for PixelJunk games! Some of you might be new to PixelJunk, so here’s a primer to get you started: PixelJunk MonstersInspired by the popular and addictive tower defense genre, PixelJunk Monsters takes the simple real-time strategy concept of building, researching and base defending and presents it in a uniquely attractive style. In the game, Tikiman, a dancing defender-of-the-forest, strategically builds a variety of defense towers in a lush 2D environment with the goal of defending the pathway to your home base (and children!) from an onslaught of threatening monsters. With 20 different stages, dozens of different towers, a gaggle of interesting and infuriating monsters, and most importantly – couch co-op! – PixelJunk Monsters has earned a reputation as one of the most beloved tower defense games of all time. PixelJunk EdenPixelJunk Eden is probably the most abstract game of the PixelJunk series. Picture if you will, a psychedelic platformer where you guide a tiny, silk-spinning ‘grimp’ through the gardens of Eden on a mission to grow each by pollenating flowers and finding precious ‘Spectra’. You grip, jump and swing, destroying “Prowlers†and collecting their pollen which lets you grow more plants to take you further and deeper into the gardens. Lush visuals, slick controls and amazing music by fellow Kyoto native Baiyon make it an incredibly atmospheric and addictive experience. Plus, up to 3 player local co-op! PixelJunk ShooterIn PixelJunk Shooter, you pilot a subterranean exploration vehicle to explore the interior of diverse cave-like complexes. You must affect the surrounding and dynamic terrain to progress. The goal is to safely navigate through each vivid stage and rescue survivors scattered about the cavernous environment. Each stage is in-effect a flow simulation whereby you attempt to control various types of liquid (water, magma, etc) and solid matter (rock, earth) either by destroying it, manipulating it or moving it. These dynamic fluid effects are at the heart of the game’s visuals. Plop down on the couch with a co-pilot for even more fun! PixelJunk Shooter 2Expanding on its innovations of its predecessor PixelJunk Shooter, PixelJunk Shooter 2 is a complex and dynamic fluid simulation system, which fills the game world with flowing liquids and hazardous gases, and provides the game its distinctive style. Blast holes in walls or use your ship itself to drill past scorching hot magma. The fluids react in real-time to the player’s actions and to other liquids, creating unique and exciting situations with every play. The goal of the game is to keep cool (your ship is susceptible to overheating) whilst finding and rescuing the many helpless, stranded survivors. You’ll need to master the deformable terrain, the flowing liquids and the fierce life forms as you proceed deeper into ever more challenging environments. And even more local co-op! Notice a theme here? PixelJunk SidescrollerThe final chapter of the Shooter trilogy! Sidescroller finds our Shooter pilot protagonist killing time on his orher way back home by pumping space quarters into a retro side-scrolling shooter. Reinventing the genre from the ground up while maintaining that nostalgic feeling, PixelJunk SideScroller is a bit of side story fun. Dodge flurries of alien bullets and strategically upgrade your weapons as you battle your way through sweeping stages full of hazardous fluid and endless shooting mayhem. Friends need not wait put their quarter in the queue to play next, because Sidescroller is also sporting local co-op. PixelJunk Racers 2nd LapPixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap is an addictive slot car racing game that features single player and multiplayer fun. 14. Hello again, PlayStation.Blog! Ben here from the indie studio Wales Interactive. Today I have the pleasure of announcing our upcoming PS4 game, the sci-fi adventure-puzzler Soul Axiom! Before we delve into the digital afterlife, we’ve got a brand new story trailer to show you! On top of that, if you’re looking for more gameplay action from our early development stage then can watch that here So, what’s it all about? Well, in first-person, you’ll explore the world of Elysia, a sprawling digital server where memories and dreams become reality. Anyone who fancies the idea of uploading their soul for digital immortality should look no further! Along your journey you’ll collect a range of unique hand powers and use these to manipulate or destroy parts of the environment, which will aid in solving cryptic logic puzzles to progress through the game. To get a better understanding of what these powers are, I’ll introduce to your very first, known as the “Phase†power. With this ability you can essentially materialize and dematerialize objects or walls with the left and right hand respectively. Combining this with other abilities makes for some really… puzzling puzzles. If you happen to recognize some of the features or visuals you see, chances are you’ve played or at least heard about the adventure horror game, Master Reboot on PS3? Well, Soul Axiom is indeed the spiritual successor, set in the same universe but not a direct sequel. This is a completely new game made from the ground up, built on better foundations and featuring new game mechanics, a whole new host of characters, 40 unique locations, and a compelling storyline with multiple endings. When you start the game you are literally dropped into the action with no idea who or where you are. We give you little guidance, but the levels are intuitive and you have to find your own way through the puzzle solving in order to piece together the story as you go along. It’s very important for us to give the player respect to find their own way as there is more satisfaction when you feel that you have solved a puzzle or found out a key bit of information about the story. It’s then up to the player to go on a journey of discovery in order to find out who they are and why they are there. You can find out more about the game by visiting the website. Soul Axiom’s PS4 release date is currently being decided, but as we’re nearing the end of development, expect to see another announcement soon with more details on that. The Wales Interactive team would love to hear your thoughts! If you have any questions then leave your comments below. Diolch yn fawr iawn (Thank you very much) for joining me today! 15. Hello, PlayStation nation! Today, we’re very excited to announce that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be launching on PS4 on February 23rd, 2016. The team has been working hard on the game, and even if its release is still a few months away, having a set date where we know you’ll get a chance to experience the game first hand is a huge motivation for all of us. In the spirit of player choice, which is at the heart of Deus Ex, we’ve put together a special program called “Augment your Pre-orderâ€. It will let you choose the digital pre-order bonuses you want to get for your Day One edition of the game, selected from five different tiers which will unlock progressively. You can of course take part in this program by pre-ordering the game through PlayStation Store. The available rewards within each tier include in-game items packs, digital books and music expanding on the world of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and an extra in-game mission. The very last tier is one of a kind, as its reward will be an early release of the game, four days prior to its scheduled launch! For more details on Augment your Pre-order, check out the official site. If you want everything, we’ve also got your covered. The Collector’s Edition for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will include all the in-game content and rewards from Augment your Pre-order, as well as physical items, selected based on the thousands of votes you submitted to us during our community vote for this edition. The aforementioned physical items include a 48-page artbook created in partnership with Titan Books, a 9″ Adam Jensen figurine, a limited edition steelbook and, of course, the Day One edition of the game — which will all come in an exclusive packaging. We can’t wait for you to experience Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. In the meantime, keep an eye out for more information and reveals in the coming months! View the full article

  18. Hi! We’re called Ice-Pick Lodge, and we’re happy to announce that September 10th will mark the PS4 launch of Knock Knock — a creepy horror game with a rather unusual backstory. What do you, a small-to-mid-sized indie studio, do when an e-mail pops up full of mysterious scribbles, notes, and audio files — coupled with a vague description of a possible game? In all honesty, more often than not you probably try to conjure up a polite and friendly response; perhaps discuss the sender’s ideas with them. But that’s not what happened at Ice-Pick Lodge studios in November 2011. Instead of doing the sensible thing, we set to create a horror game that would incorporate the disturbing nature and the subtly sinister undertones of the .zip archive we were sent while also avoiding the genre cliches like gore, asylums, or jump scares. It feels nice to give yourselves quests. Many innovative and charming games begin with an idea longing to be implemented, with a desire to try out a new mechanic or, say, combine certain traditions. Knock Knock is not so different in this regard — it’s just that our quest was to recreate a place, a feeling, and an idea first captured in a set of disjointed snippets, bits, and pieces that we extracted from the archive. There were audio files that ended up becoming “Lodger speak†— the incomprehensible speech of the game’s main character, the Lodger. There were images and text files that made us realize that the game is set in a cabin lost in the woods. Finally, the very fact of making a game based on an archive from an anonymous source provided Knock Knock with its central motif: the fear of the unknown. We were — and still are — a bit afraid of what we’ve done, you see. Even those of us who were positive it was nothing more than a prank. Why does it matter, anyway? Whether the cabin was located in some real woods or in the mindscape of a very peculiar person, it’s still real in the world of ideas. And the world of ideas was real enough for us to find a note saying “You’ve forgotten someone†when we later went to a forest to fulfill some of the Kickstarter backer rewards (Knock Knock has indeed been successfully kickstarted, and one of the tiers promised that we would plant a tree for the backer). The Lodger’s fears spawn from his own close-mindedness, taking the shape of so-called Guests that visit his cabin and engage in a game of creepy hide-and-seek (Hide-and-sick?) with him. The only thing the Lodger needs to do to win is to survive until dawn. Is it true? Or is he supposed to break the rules created with his own fearful mind? What if it’s all merely a nightmarish prank? Whatever the correct answer is, we did our best to deliver it subtly. The cabin itself is cozy, and the woods you set to explore from time to time are picturesque. So what is wrong with this place? Most human fears boil down to the fact that we reject the alien and the unknown. We fear the dark because something may be there; we indulge in various types of xenophobia because there are a lot of things in this world that simply do not make sense to us. A cleaver-wielding zombie may be frightening as hell, especially if you’re fragile and lack the means to defend yourself, but we honestly believe that an inexplicable creature set about its own business is even more so. It may not even necessarily present a threat, but by god how does its shape even hold together?! That is not how bodies work at all! Coupled with the fact that there may or may not be some twisted game going on with the protagonist being the main player, it works to recreate the disconnected mood of the archive rather well. And it’s not us patting ourselves on the back; after the game was first released, the spooky sender has contacted us once again, claiming we’ve made several mistakes, but got the general gist just right. Knock Knock is a pocket of chaos that serves as a direct contradiction to the belief that the world can be made sense of at all; multiple in-game systems (some of them suggested by our dubious benefactor — seemingly for no reason at all) overlap, creating an ever-evolving situation that keeps the player on their toes. But chaos is unavoidably broken into patterns. That’s just how human mind works — including the mind of our poor protagonist. Perhaps this is what it’s all about. And, well, that’s better than nothing. When you stare into the darkness, anything is better than nothing — even a doppelganger of yours staring back at you blindly. (That is, of course, not a random metaphor, but something that can be encountered in Knock Knock.) The horror genre is extremely robust these days — and whatever the origins of the e-mail were, we’re more than happy that someone or something has given us a nudge to add to it while scaring ourselves witless in the process. Now we hope that the black box that is Knock Knock will continue to serve its purpose. Whatever it is. View the full article

  23. Hey everyone! Nathan from Capy here again. As you probably noticed, Super Time Force Ultra is coming to PS4 and PS Vita on September 1st, free for PS Plus members (and $14.99 for everyone else). The game is cross buy, has a Platinum Trophy, and lets you explode robots and/or dinosaurs and/or angels. The last time I was on the blog, I shared our PlayStation-exclusive additions to the Super Time Force: President of Sony Computer Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida, the traveler from Journey, and Sir Galahad from The Order: 1886. This time I am here to share a whopping 14 facts that you probably didn’t know about Super Time Force Ultra. All of these facts are 100% true, 0% exaggerated, and 1000% awesome. Some are also really quite dumb. Let’s dive in! 1.) Super Time Force Ultra’s main character and reckless leader, CDR. Repeatski is actually based off Capy co-founder Matt Repetski, right down to the earrings and certain verbal expressions. Matt, however, does not wear two eye-patches… we added those for character. 2.) Lou Don Jim’s laser sword is called a Light Saver. Repeat after me: Light. Saver. 3.) We worked on the game for the better part of a year before adding the game’s key feature: the Time-Out mechanic. Previous to that, time would automatically rewind to the beginning of a level only after the player had died. It took us awhile to figure out that this was seriously impacting the length and depth of level, enemy, and boss designs. It was also frustrating as heck. The addition of the Time-Out mechanic changed everything and ended up defining the game. 4.) After a successful debut of the Time-Out mechanic at PAX East, Kenneth Yeung (programmer/designer), Kris Piotrowski (Capy creative director), and Dan Vader (designer) celebrated by eating more than 100 oysters in a single sitting. 5.) Capy artist Vic Nguyen hid a 1-frame smiley face in one of the explosion animations that appears throughout the game. Players who are paying attention and slowly rewinding back through time can spot this happy subliminal message. 6.) We made a single, endlessly-scrolling, eye-scorching collection of Super Time Force Ultra GIF’s we call The Wall of Gifsanity. It is perhaps our finest achievement. Behold. 7.) Some of the characters that didn’t make the final cut: US Citizen Ninja, Robo Constable, Jesus, and Normal House Cat. There was also a character with a fully functional grappling hook as well as a “portalâ€-ing character. They were cut because they broke every single level in the game. 8.) The police antagonists that appear in the game don the name “SWAZ†rather than “SWAT†as a tribute to the late American actor Patrick Swayze. There is also a copy of the 1988 movie Tiger Warsaw permanently glued to the Capy fridge. 9.) All death screams used in the game were recorded by audio director Sean Lohrisch from inside his bedroom closet to reduce the chance of frightening his neighbours and/or having the police called on him. Sean himself screamed for the male cast, while musician 6955’s wife Kahori screamed for the women. There are also two appearances of the famous Wilhelm scream, both during boss battles. 10.) More than 20 different enemy types didn’t make it into the final game, including spin kicking ninjitsu priests, pogostick-riding football robots, werewolf mermaids, and blackhole fur balls from another dimension. 11.) A few of the reasons for the game’s Teen rating include one image that contains 2 pixels of “butt crackâ€, as well as the game containing numerous instances of “poo coils†(those are ESRB’s exact terms), and usage of the word “fudge.†12.) Originally, the button icons used for the time rewind controls were the “play,†“rewind†and “fast forward†buttons that you see on a VCR. Then we realized that a lot of the players who will play the game probably have never seen a VCR. We then proceeded to feel pretty old. 13.) Dolphin Lundgren was originally called Soniq the Dolphin. He wore a pair of oversized red sneakers and shot out golden rings as his attack. It was a lawsuit waiting to happen. It was also pretty, pretty, pretty funny. 14.) The original game jam version of the game was called Super Time Squad, which had some fair-sized trademark-related issues. The team rallied around the new name, Super Time Force, partly because we wanted to make a version called Super Time Force Ultra… or STFU. Other names we were considering for the game were: Re/Run (in hindsight, this is a rad name!) The Endless 6 (when we thought we’d only have 6 characters) Timeliners Super Time Defenders (this didn’t abbreviate well) Space Heroes In Time (this also didn’t abbreviate well) So there you have it. Tons of facts about Super Time Force Ultra, which comes out next week on PS4 and PS Vita. Whether you’re a PlayStation Plus member or not, do us a favor and check this bonkers game out on September 1st. Kookabunga, folks. View the full article
  24. Hello, Pawel from 11 bit studios, here. I’m very proud to introduce to you our latest project, something we’ve been working on for the past year and tailoring to PS4. This is a very unusual project: a serious game made for a mature gamer; an experience that will tackle your emotions heavily. And now this very unusual project is unveiled. Ladies and Gentlemen, let me tell you about This War of Mine: The Little Ones, coming to PS4 on January 29th, 2016. This War of Mine: The Little Ones explores the hardships of wartime survival as seen from an entirely new perspective: that of a child. Based on the award-winning This War of Mine, The Little Ones puts you in charge of a group of adults and children stuck in the middle of hell, trying to survive in a besieged city; struggling with lack of food, medicine and constant danger. The question is: how far will you go to make it through another day? This experience focuses not only on the reality of enduring war, but also the fact that even in times of conflict, kids are still kids — they laugh, cry, play with toys and see the world differently. In addition to thinking about survival, you’ll have to bring back the kid in yourself to understand how to protect the little ones. This sounds very serious, right? Because it is. Our goal as developers was to create a mature experience in which you’re seeing war through eyes of regular people — so not a military action, but a horrible challenge to overcome. As a group of civilians you’ll be facing extremely difficult choices that have to be made just to survive the war: what do you do when you have to sacrifice someone? What do you do when you’re starving but other survivors may have food? You’ll need to get it as well as medication, bandages, and the like. When you run out of necessities, you’ll need to send one man on a mission to scavenge for any supplies. But kids are not as tough as adults — and you will be the ones taking care of them. During the night maybe you’ll find some parts that can be used to fix a toy, which children can then play with during the day — kids still need entertainment after all. But kids also need to talk to someone and feel safe, so don’t forget that as well. Kids create bonds with those who protect them and that’s also portrayed in the game. Again, very serious, right? We’ve had this idea from the very beginning of the development of This War of Mine but we were worried that people may not have been ready for such a serious game. Perhaps even quite a shocking one. But the reception of the game was brilliant — we got tons of positive feedback and acknowledgement for showing war as it was. So the next big step was expanding it by bringing kids to This War of Mine. Now, you’ll be able to experience it on PS4. The main philosophy behind this project is to portray emotions of people surviving a siege of a city. That also requires picturing emotions of kids — that means not only sadness, but laughter, excitement, and a bit of craziness despite the surroundings. Their active imaginations are also being portrayed, for example you’ll see children even drawing on the walls of the shelter. We feel that the spectrum of the emotions your civilians will make you experience has now broadened greatly. And since we’re on PlayStation.Blog, there’s another piece of news we think you’ll be glad to hear: the PS4 edition of This War of Mine: The Little Ones will actually contain an exclusive extra shelter known as the Large Mansion. The daytime phase of the game takes place in your shelter and this is where you’ll be caring for survivors and making the tough decisions — so factors like how the building is shaped, how many floors it has, how well it’s fortified and prepared as a potential hideout all have a huge influence over the gameplay itself. As a result, PS4 players are going to be getting a unique experience here with this new shelter being a part of the game (although you can of course still play in the original shelters, too). We’ve spent tons of time in building up this new shelter in the game, spent an enormous amount of time playtesting it, and we can’t wait for you guys to be able to check it out. Ready for a serious game? I hope so, and if you have any questions, I’ll be ready to answer them in the comment section. View the full article
  25. You may be asking yourself, “Thief Town? What’s that?†Well, it’s only the latest in multiplayer Thief-related action, with graphics that look so real! Now, you may be screaming, “Wow! So cool!†Thief Town is a local multiplayer stealth party game for 2-4 players, coming exclusively to PS4 on Tuesday, September 29th. Stab your buddies in a pixel-perfect rendition of the Wild West. Yee-haw!! You and your friends play as the Thieves, who need to sneak around the Town to try and stab the other players. The only problem is, every player looks exactly alike. Not only that, but the Town is also filled with identical-looking computer-controlled Thieves. You’ve got to disguise yourself in the crowd while figuring out which Thieves are actually your friends. Once you find ’em, stab ’em! Get points and win the game! You can’t just go around stabbing everyone in Thief Town. You’ll only get points by stabbing the other players. If you stab an NPC, the only thing you’ll do is reveal yourself! So be sneaky and make that first stab count, because that harmless Thief behind you might just be another player… Lurk in the crowd, emulate non-player characters, and achieve backstabbing victory. These are the laws that Thief Town was founded upon. The game mode we just described is appropriately called “Thief Town,†a standard round where you hide in the crowd and stab your friends for points. The full package comes with three game modes, two arenas, tons of items, and PS4 bonus features! Spy Town gives players items to trick and trap enemy Thieves before going in for the kill. Use smoke bombs, motion detectors, and teleportation devices to gain an advantage… but be careful, they’re one-use only! Drunk Town is a 1v3 round where one player becomes “The Sheriff,†whose job is to sniff out and shoot those pesky Thieves with his pistol. Too bad the Thieves don’t have their knives this time — they’ll just have to behave until time or the Sheriff’s bullets run out! Thief Town also has two Towns: the Wild West and Spooky Town. Giant, killer tumbleweeds and camouflaging sand storms ravage the Wild West, while Spooky Town’s creepy statues and lightning storms help to reveal the location of players. We’ve also included a number of awesome PS4-exclusive features. Stab your touchpad with your finger to stab your friend in the game! Customize your Thief with 256 potential names, like “Cross-Circle-Square-Squareâ€, or “Triangle-Triangle-Cross-Triangleâ€! We’ve also hidden some secret screen filters in “The Saloon,†our game’s interactive menu… If you’ve enjoyed local multiplayer games like Sportsfriends or Towerfall: Ascension, we invite you to further sharpen your social skills with Thief Town. The team at Glass Knuckle Games has been working really hard to ensure that couch multiplayer remains alive and well, so be sure to grab Thief Town if your parties are lacking some healthy, sneaky competition. You’ll be able to start stabbin’ on September 29th. Got questions about Thief Town? Excited about Wild West antics? Let us know below! Be sneaky, be crafty… View the full article
