1.
This week, The Drop takes you back in time to the vast ancient city of Constantinople in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, then shoots you forward into the criminal underbelly of Stilwater in Saints Row: The Third, then finally scrubs your face in the hot asphalt between San Francisco and New York in Need for Speed: The Run. The PlayStation Move delivers a trinity of great PS3 tiles this week with Medieval Moves: Deadmund's Quest, Carnival Island, and EyePet & Friends.

On the PSN front, dinosaurs return from extinction and into your PS3 with Jurassic Park: The Game. The winner of several (well-deserved) Game of the Year Awards in 2010, Red Dead Redemption plants you in the middle of the Wild West with a full digital download.

The PS3 continues to deliver in this week’s The Drop.
 2. Jeff's on some well-deserved R-and-R, so I'll be helming this week's reading list. No surprises here: The launch of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Call of Duty: MW3 dominated mindshare, while UNCHARTED 3 continues to earn top marks. One more thing: Some PlayStation.Blog readers have mentioned encountering issues with our new YouTube-based video platform, particularly videos that require an age verification to see (i.e. Mature-rated videos). Below, we've embedded a video. If you don't see it, please help us by leaving a comment outlining a) your operating system (Windows, Mac, Android, etc) your web browser and version number c) a description of the problems you are seeing (missing video, non-functional video, error code, etc) and d) any other information that seems important. 3. These days, you'll most often find me hunched on the carpet in front of my PS3 surrounded by maps, game guides, and empty Diet Coke cans as I struggle (mostly in vain) to keep up with this fall's imposing software lineup. I've been punctuating my lengthy Skyrim sessions with Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer matches (nice to see it supports splitscreen MP) and chapters from UNCHARTED 3's well-paced narrative. In my 20-year history of game playing, I can't remember a fall game lineup that tops what we're seeing on the PS3 right now. Inspiring! What are you playing this weekend? What's your all-time favorite fall lineup? More...
 4. Hey PlayStation fans! Unless you’ve been under a rock for the last 65 million years, then you probably already know that we’ve been hard at work crafting Jurassic Park: The Game. But did you realize that it’s only a matter of days until you can find yourself back on the Isla Nublar? On November 15th, you’ll be able to download all four episodes of Jurassic Park: The Game from PlayStation Network. That is, if you have what it takes to go face to giant toothy face with a massive T-Rex! We’ve created a game like nothing you’ve ever played before. Jurassic Park is about dinosaurs, but as fans of the movie know, it’s also about much more than that. It’s about the people that encounter the dinosaurs and how their lives change because of it. It’s about nature and what happens when we don’t respect it. More...
 5. We’re days away from the release of Need for Speed The Run, the illicit cross-country race from San Francisco to New York in the fastest cars on the planet. Jack (played by Hollywood actor Sean Faris) finds himself racing against 200 other racers in pursuit of a $25 million cash prize. Speaking of Hollywood, if PlayStation fans haven’t seen the new trailer directed by Michael Bay, definitely take a look right now (above). Seriously cool, huh? In true Michael Bay form, it’s jam-packed with action and explosions. What’s really neat is that Bay actually took time to get his hands on the game, and talk with our creative team for inspiration. With so many great 3D-compatible titles, such as UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception, Batman Arkham City, and Assassin’s Creed Revelations, recently launched and coming, there’s no shortage of 3D entertainment on the PS3 system this holiday season. 9. As a life-long gamer (four plus decades) I’ve seen many, many games. Some great and some...well, not-so-great. The first and foremost question that I ask for ANY game is simply “is it any fun?†If all the technical aspects of a game do not add to a sense of immersion or fun then I consider that game a missed opportunity. I recently sat in for the first time with the game team on Medieval Moves: Deadmund’s Quest while they were putting the finishing touches on the game, coming Tuesday, November 15th. Not to my surprise, the game not only met my expectations but far surpassed them. The first comment I will make to anyone who asks me to best describe Medieval Moves: Deadmund’s Quest will simply be “try it.†I know that statement won’t win any literary awards for video game commentary, but it is my honest answer. Those that have tried Medieval Moves: Deadmund’s Quest agree that the gameplay speaks volumes. More...

Once you have built your ship, you can then start to explore the surronding galaxies. 12. BioShock is one of the most surprising games of this generation. First of all, it isn’t inspired by a real-life conflict, a film or another game series, but a moderately successful novel called Atlus Shrugged by Ayn Rand, which put forward a philosophy called Objectivism, or ‘rational selfishness’. BioShock’s writer and Creative Director, Ken Levine, and his team are now working on BioShock Infinite, a departure from the dark, dystopian corridors of Rapture into the bright skies of Columbia, a floating city named after the female personification of the United States of America. I recently had the chance to sit down with Ken to talk about the philosophies that underpinned the original BioShock and how, if at all, these are being applied to BioShock Infinite. 13. This Thursday, November 10th PlayStation Home will be updated with a variety of virtual items, exclusive videos, expansions to popular community events, and even a huge upgrade to one of the most popular games on the platform. Those of you that own the mega-popular Scribble Shooter - the top-down, shoot ‘em up arcade-style game known for its addictive gameplay and unique art style – will now be able to share the game with your friends. This additional functionality was developed based upon the feedback of the PlayStation Home community, and we’re proud to release this totally free upgrade to all Scribble Shooter fans effective immediately. Enjoy! Players that go to the newly-opened Pier Park will find that a new level of the classic Turkey Chase event has been released complete with brand new rewards. For those unfamiliar with this PlayStation Home tradition, the premise is simple: In celebration of the impending Turkey Day, players that approach the gathering of turkeys in Pier Park will enter into a game wherein you chase a bunch of wily turkeys around the space (word to the wise: these turkeys are quite cunning so you’d better bring appropriate footwear). 14. Today it's my pleasure to announce that Boston Red Sox All-Star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez will be the cover athlete for MLB 12 The Show, which will hit store shelves on March 6, 2012 for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, just in time for Spring Training. A candidate for this year’s America League Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award, Gonzalez is a four-time All-Star (2008-2011), three-time Rawlings Gold Glove winner (2008, 2009, 2011), and 2011 Silver Slugger Award winner. The Show has been and continues to be the market leading and highest ranked officially licensed baseball title of this console generation and the number-one rated sports video game over the past four years, so we're psyched to have one the best all-around players in baseball representing MLB 12! The first overall pick by the Florida Marlins in the 2000 MLB Draft, Gonzalez has really come in his own, both on the field and at the plate. A little history on him...in 2010 while playing for the San Diego Padres, he was named team MVP for the third consecutive year and fourth time overall. Then after the blockbuster trade that sent him to the Boston Red Sox last offseason, he enjoyed one of his best professional seasons to date, which included his 1,000 career hit, fourth consecutive All-Star selection, third Gold Glove, first Silver Slugger Award, and a top five finish in batting average (.338) and RBI (117) in all of baseball—not too bad! 15. During this summer’s <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/gamescom11/'>http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/gamescom11/">Gamescom, we invited <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/author/cmillar/'>http://blog.us.playstation.com/author/cmillar/">Chris Millar to join us on the PS.Blog and introduce Fun Bits Interactive and their first creation for PlayStation Vita, Escape Plan. Aside from the gorgeous black-and-white, film noir art style that pops right off the massive OLED screen, Escape Plan is truly unique game, thanks to its two memorable characters, LAARGE and LIL. It’s time to check on their progress. Escape Plan Producer Matt Morton hopped in front of our cameras at Sony Santa Monica Studios recently, and was happy to give us this update on the art-direction, PSVita multi-touch controls, and to show us why Escape Plan is such a harsh, but addictive puzzler. 17. DUST 514 is an MMOFPS coming to PS3 with large-scale vehicle and infantry combat taking place in – and with a real time connection to - the EVE Online universe on PC. Players are able to band up into corporations (e.g. guilds) and wage territorial conquest on thousands of planets. Following is a thematic description of Rapid Deployment Vehicles, or RDVs. The RDVs deliver vehicles to players on the battlefield, provided that they own the vehicle’s blueprint, and are skilled for its operation. The RDVs are AI driven, with a robust pathfinding system that allows them to deploy anywhere on even the largest battlefields. (We will give more insight into the game’s vehicle mechanics in a blog post soon.) Shrouded in advanced optical stealth and guided by automated networked navigation systems, the J42 “Sky Lift†RDV (Rapid Deployment Vehicle) drone is able to deliver even the heaviest armor, with pinpoint accuracy, anywhere on the battlefield. The proliferation of this invaluable tech has changed the face of ground warfare in the EVE universe, giving front-line commanders the ability to strike enemy positions with little warning or reinforce vulnerable points at a moment’s notice. 18. Call of Duty players all have one big thing in common: Call of Duty. Sounds obvious, I know, but I think that’s enough. Now, some of you reading this are fantastic Call of Duty players. Some of you stink on ice. Let me slide over on this big block of frozen water to make room for you folks in the latter camp. Come sit next to me and we can talk about why we always seem to be on the wrong end of a noob tube. That said, the gap between the masters and the students is not that wide. We’re all playing for the same reason – Call of Duty games are fun, that’s all. I’ll always take an opportunity to learn and improve, but even when I get my ass handed to me online, as long as I enjoy the company of the people I’m playing with, I’m more likely to leave a session laughing, regardless of KDR. This is where Call of Duty Elite comes in. Not many games have 30 million people playing them, so the idea behind Elite was to give all those players a common ground – a service that would help them connect, compete, and improve. We’re all playing together as it is; let’s play together better. More...

 21. Hey fight fans, I’m here to give you the run-down on Fight Night Champion Customizable, available today exclusively on PSN starting at $4.99. With Fight Night Champion, we delivered a dramatically new gameplay experience. In creating Champion Mode, it was the first time that EA SPORTS had incorporated a story-based game mode into a sports title. Inspired by classic boxing movies, Champion Mode allows players to step into the shoes of Andre Bishop, an up-and-coming middleweight contender who learns that the road to becoming a champion in professional boxing is one that is filled with unimaginable highs and brutal lows. Champion Mode tells a story of redemption and perseverance in one of the toughest sports ever imagined. Now with Fight Night Champion available as a customizable digital download exclusively on PSN, we’re once again delivering a new experience to gamers; we’re giving them the opportunity to customize their experience to meet their gaming needs. We anticipate a few questions, so here’s more detail on this unique approach to downloadable games: More...

 23. If there’s any game series that’s synonymous with PlayStation, it’s Wipeout. This fast-paced combat racer has appeared on every single PlayStation console, and now it’s preparing to make the jump to PS Vita with Wipeout 2048. We recently interviewed producer Michael Pulst, who gave us a tour of the new control options (front and rear touchscreen as well as motion controls), gameplay refinements, and multiplayer support between PS Vita and PS3. Read on for highlights from our interview. PlayStation.Blog: What are longtime fans likely to notice first about Wipeout 2048 on PS Vita? Michael Pulst, Assistant Producer: We’ve made the tracks a little bit wider. Wipeout has always been known for its intense, hardcore racing; in the past games, you were not only fighting the other players but you’re also fighting the track. It was so hardcore that it actually turned some people off; it was a barrier to entry, and the team recognized this. By making the tracks a bit wider, you’re able to concentrate more on the race and fighting off the other players. More...
 24. The numbers are in: It’s time to break down the Top 20 PSN games from October! Whether you’ve played them all or missed a game or two, we hope you’ll find this month’s numbers informative and interesting. This list tracks top games purchased, downloaded and installed; it does not track games given away as part of PlayStation Plus. With that, let’s get to the list! In the chill of October, PSN gamers have been keeping warm with NBA JAM: On Fire Edition! But co-op bank robbery shooter PAYDAY: The Heist came in close (with a release in the later part of October as well), along with other new arrivals including Dungeon Defenders and Crysis. Also notable are the PS2 Classics that hit the Store with Odin Sphere and God Hand both cracking the top 20. More...
 25. We just updated the Music Unlimited service application on PS3 with some great features that many of you have been asking for. Cosmetically, you’ll probably first notice that our new branding has finally landed on PS3. More importantly, however, the new app gives you added control over how you listen to and access music. We’re most excited about the new “My Channels†function that lets you build custom radio stations around your favorite artists. Simply type in the name of the artist and we’ll populate a station with songs from that artist and related artists. Another great enhancement to the service makes it easier to skip tracks you dislike. Really don’t like a song that is playing on one of the channels? Just “dislike†it and we’ll automatically skip to the next one. More...
