  1. Story by Seeson @ blogs.battlefield.ea.com. Thank you for playing the Open Beta and making the final game better! We are very excited to see so many gamers join our Battlefield 3 Open Beta. Here’s an update on the Open Beta from DICE General Manager Karl Magnus Troedsson. I want to give you an overview of how the Open Beta is helping us shape a fantastic final game, what we are implementing based on your feedback, and how the Open Beta will help us deliver a robust gaming environment from day one. The Open Beta is a true Beta The Battlefield 3 Open Beta is based on software that is more than one month old. We need to test the new back end dedicated server structure we’ve built. Not only have we built a new game engine, but an entirely new back end system so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of dedicated servers on all platforms. Just like normal procedure when releasing a game, the Open Beta has had long lead times due to testing, certification, and setting up. This means that the code you are now playing is actually quite early and not representative of the final game. We had to do this in order to have as many people testing as possible, in order to ensure a top quality experience when the game is released. However, we’re confident in the Battlefield formula and confident that our fans will support us in order to make Battlefield 3 better. * Dedicated servers require dedicated testing The biggest reason for running the Open Beta is to stress test our servers and back end. Already, we are seeing 6 times the number of simultaneous players in the Battlefield 3 Open Beta compared to the Beta for Battlefield: Bad Company 2! The fact that Battlefield 3 is clearly our biggest game launch ever by a magnitude of 6 makes it doubly important to test everything. We are constantly updating the News section on Battlelog with information on what we are fixing from Open Beta to final. We appreciate your time and your feedback. The data and feedback from the Open Beta will not only directly affect the final game of Battlefield 3, but its future development and support. We’re heading out on the road this week to let journalists experience all aspects of Battlefield 3. Stay tuned for their previews, and stay tuned for the final game on October 25th. The final game will look, play and sound better than the Open Beta. You have helped making sure of that. Karl Magnus Troedsson General Manager, DICE Score: 0 (0 votes cast) More...

  3. Over the last six months, the Directors have allowed Staff to take over the day to day management of the site, tournaments, etc. We had hoped this would give the site a more community driven feel as well as keep Urgent Fury on the right path for tournament development and community involvement. Though this plan has great merit, the execution did not accomplish the goal. We have had several tournaments that were miss managed, and even more tournaments that did not even launch due to Staff and Team members not completing their tasks. The Resistance Tournament for example suffered immensely because of this and we are currently reorganizing the schedule to adjust for this failure to launch. As a result of this we are restructuring the staff and how we do things. You have already seen our newest Staff Member SniperCity who will be coordinating the tournament team. This team is made of members of the community that have knowledge and experience with the various games that we will launch tournaments on. We have also had a couple of staff members move on from staff. Johnson realized that he did not have the time to put into being staff here at Urgent Fury and has retired, he will be missed and we appreciate the time and effort that he has dedicated to Urgent Fury over the last several years. WolfDog chose to quit when we demoted him to a tournament team member for not completing his tasks as a staff member in the tournament team. So how can you help? Well we have a few things the community can do for us... First we will be launching a Community Survey this week, we need every member of the community to give us feedback and be as honest as possible. Community Feedback Survey can be found here... The Survey includes questions in the following areas: About how you came to Urgent Fury, what types of games you play etc 6 Questions - All required [*]Feedback about the website 6 Questions - All required [*]Feedback about the tournaments we offer and what you would like to see in the future Up to 9 Questions - 8 required and 1 optional [*]Feedback about Urgent Frequency both the podcast and UFreqTV 7 Questions - 5 required and 2 optional [*]A narrative section where you can provide open feedback about various sections Up to 6 Questions - 1 required if condition is met and 5 optional [*]Optional User Info section where you can provide your username, email, name, etc. We will place all users that fill out this section in full into a drawing for a MW3 Strategy Guide from BradyGames. 7 Questions - All optional Next we want to know if you are interested in helping. We have never had an open application for Urgent Fury but now we would like to know who wants to step up and help Urgent Fury get back on track. Just fill out the application here. We look forward to hearing from the community via the survey as well as talking with the members of the community that are looking to be more than just a member. Urgent Fury Command

  8. Story by Scott Grill @ Examiner.com. If you’re taking a break from playing the Battlefield 3 beta, you may want to take a look at this Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 video showing gameplay from the Spec Ops Survival mode on the Paris map. The Paris survival mode gameplay footage definitely shows off the arcadey side of Modern Warfare 3 as the player one of two players charges opponents by jumping on top of cars and taking them down with the shotgun. It also provides a glimpse at some of the items that can be purchased from the equipment armory such as the Sentry Grenade Launcher. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is scheduled to release on November 8 for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Grenade Launcher Sentry Gun = SWEET!!! (Nemesis) Score: 0 (0 votes cast) More...
  9. Story by Owen Good @ Kotaku.com. About a week before the Battlefield 3 beta began, the game’s community manager had decided he’d heard enough shrill complaining about the fact that “Operation Metro” and not some other map would the only one playable. And so he went off. Rewind: Operation Metro was revealed to be the beta map on Sept. 20. Apparently, large numbers of forum goers thought some other map would be used, like one that allowed up to 64 players. The choice of Metro did not sit well with many, and the Battlefield forums were filled with great anger and profound disappointment. This is what Daniel Matros, DICE’s global community manager for Battlefield 3, had to confront at the end of the day. “Right now, I am not in the mood to even browse in here and check out most parts of the forum,” Daniel Matros began on Sept. 20. Saying that “the beta is a privilege, not a right,” unless you got a key with a pre-order, Matros ripped into the whiners, still with a measured tone that suggests he had to choose his words carefully. “The vibe I’m getting now is just that tons of ungrateful people don’t understand how much work we are putting on this game how many overtime hours we are doing and also how many meetings we are in to ship a game like this.” Matros thanked those who did provide constructive feedback. “To the rest of you—grow up.” Two replies later, proving his point, someone wrote: “Why aren’t you releasing Caspian Border in the beta?” It should be noted that although this thread no longer exists (a cache of it does) even a cursory Google search of the forums turns up threads backing Matros. As for why they went with Operation Metro, not something else, well, it’s a beta. “We have already showed this map and made some big changes to it to enhance gameplay as well as get it more fluent than in the Alpha,” Matros explained later. “Lots of new things have been added in closer to launch. Our rank progression system as well as customizations have made their way into the beta and it´s very important for us to test these things before we launch. That is the purpose of the Beta as well as combining it with Battlelog and all of the features there. If you feel that this isn´t the right map for you, then perhaps we don´t really agree on what maps we want to see.” It is indeed hard not to be sympathetic. These games are not made by elves. We’ve heard plenty about “crunch” at the end of a development cycle, I’m sure the last thing anyone wants to deal with, amidst all of that, is inconsiderate sniping and snide questions from some entitled dickbag who is unhappy that the free thing he’s being given isn’t optimized for his comfort. It is, however, rare to see this kind of thing play out, probably why the thread is gone. The Battlefield 3 beta runs until Oct. 10. I hope everyone survives. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) More...
  10. Story by Owen Good @ Kotaku.com. As it did with Resistance 3, Sony plans to impose its “PSN Pass” on Uncharted 3, meaning multiplayer access to that game will be subject to a one-use code included with all retail copies. That’s per Juan Jimenéz, Sony’s software manager for Spain. That means that used copies of Uncharted 3 aren’t assured of including multiplayer access and, if their code is missing or has been used, it’ll cost $10 for someone to activate it the features Online pass schemes, earlier implemented by Electronic Arts, THQ and others, are an indirect way for a publisher to get a cut of used sales, but they’re more intended to incentivize buying Score: 0 (0 votes cast) More...
  11. The calendar now reads October, though I realized it not from the changing of the weather (it's still warm here in the Bay Area), but because of the density of new game releases. I'm still exploring the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/09/27/remastered-classics-available-today-ico-and-shadow-of-the-colossus-collection/">HD remake of ICO</a>, and Dark Souls is already looming in the shadows of a Tuesday release. From the looks of the reviews (some links below), it's every bit as good as Demon's Souls, and even more difficult - however that's possible. The rest of the new release list will follow later on today, but it also includes <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/rage/">Rage</a>, a game I've thoroughly enjoyed at events. I'm curious to see what everyone else thinks of it as well. It's also a great time for PSN-exclusive games. 15. Story by Brian Crecente @ Kotaku.com. Clan-Batman-versus-clan-Joker shooter Gotham City Impostors looks like it’s going to be about $15 or 1,200 Microsoft Points when it hits, according to the game’s official YouTube account. GothamCityImpostors, the person running the official YouTube account for the upcoming game, wrote in comments on their latest video” “As far as pricing is concerned, the current plan is for the game to be $14.99 or 1200 MS points.” Of course that’s not confirmed yet, but it sounds like it’s getting close. We’re also hearing that Beta testers are starting to receive email invites for the game. The beta will run nightly from 7 p.m. to midnight EST starting on Oct. 5 and ending on Oct. 9. Fingers crossed and eyes open. Or maybe the other way round. Thanks for the beta tips and to Chodiac about the pricing heads up. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) More...

  17. A new game has ‘Burst’ onto the Andriod market, Add-A-Tudez and Team Kaizen announced on the 16th September 2011 that their first stand alone game Burst! is now available in Beta form but will include all future updates automatically. For those who may not have seen it yet, Burst! is a game of music, fireworks and timing. The object is to prime your fireworks and make sure they are fired in time to the music to create your very own display. This is a game of course and as such is not as easy as it may appear. The timing as you can imagine is crucial, at the beat of the music, there is an optimum area when you have to fire your fireworks. If you miss too many of these you will fail, this instantly makes Burst! very addictive and pretty soon you’ll be wondering where the time has gone. Burst! was initially launched with two songs; Bad Battery Door Burst Remix by M-79 and Haya’s Theme by John Secolo. Other songs will follow including Velvet Electricity by DJ Bonseye and works by Steve Keller Band, Joel Corda, The Hope Movement, Ed Worrell and Great Falls Symphony. The games graphics are very colourful the game has the backdrop of Great Falls 10th Street Bridge whose restoration project will receive 1% of the profit from this game. The controls are also very easy and responsive, if you have an Xperia Play you can use the D-Pad or if not you can use the touch screen controls. The game is available from the Android Market, but first you will need to install Adobe AIR as this game makes use of its features, follow the link here: Adobe AIR Next you will need to download the beta version of Burst! a link of which is here: Burst! Once all is downloaded, you will be able to access video tutorials and guides to help you master the controls. That said, this is very easy to pick up and play and soon you’ll be in the swing of it. The people at Team Kaizen welcome feedback and in fact they are encouraging it and as Burst! is still in beta, it’s a good opportunity to help them with any bugs or fixes, you can find them at www.teamkaizengames.com as well as a new forum that is being set up to make it easier to contact them and give them your thoughts. Earlier this week, I was treated to a new demo of the rapidly approaching military shooter <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/battlefield-3/">Battlefield 3</a>, which promises to raise Battlefield’s sprawling formula to soaring new heights. After watching a 10-minute demo of the game’s campaign running on PS3, I secured a few minutes with DICE Producer Patrick Liu to address some questions from PlayStation community members...plus a few of my own! Are you playing the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/09/29/welcome-to-the-battlefield-3-open-beta-now-available-on-psn/">Battlefield 3 Open Beta on PSN</a>? 19. Story by: CritiKiL First-off, I’d like to say that I hope everyone is enjoying the Battlefied: 3 Beta. I acquired it just yesterday and it seems like it’s going to be a really great game. But whats going to make this an even ‘greater’ game is definitely going to be, the BattleLog! The game Drops on 10/25/2011 for the PC, PS3 and of course XBox 360, and I strongly suggest that you fork-up the money for all that you’ll be getting!*Here are just a Few of the things that is going to make this upcoming game, spectacular: COM CENTER ~ Your friends list lives at the bottom of the page in the Com Center.*There you can join their game and chat with them. FRIENDS ACTIVITY FEED ~*Get instant reports when your friends*unlock new weapons,*get new awards or make plans for tonight’s game. FINDING THE RIGHT SERVER ~*Select your favorite game modes, maps, and map sizes with the browser filter.*Click a server you’d like to join alone or with friends. INVITE YOUR FRIENDS ~*Drag your friends from the Com Center to a Drop Zone and they will get an invite to join. KEEPING UP TO DATE ~*Game updates are automatically pushed to you.*Use the Game Manager (‘bottom-menubar’ of BattleLog), to start the update process. SHOW WHO YOU ARE ~*Your Profile is where other people come to see you.*Your Soldiers, Stats, Favorite servers and your own*personal Battle feed.* NEVER PLAY ALONE ~*Join a platoon or create your own. One more interesting point I’d like to make (not making any comparisons here!), but it’s interesting that with all we are getting with BattleLog, it’s FREE…and COD Elite is Charged (hmmmm ~ lol!) But if you want to get a True Comparison, check out this ‘Comparison Link’ below. That’s right—in just a few days, you’ll be able to visit (or re-visit, as I’m sure is the case for many of you) one of the most hilarious and unique casts of characters ever assembled in an RPG: <blockquote> <strong>Crono:</strong> The spiky-haired, stoic protagonist who finds himself wrapped up in events beyond his control. He’s pretty good with a katana and doesn’t run from a fight. <strong>Marle:</strong> The requisite princess, but she’s no ordinary princess. We hope you’ve been enjoying the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/ratchet-clank-all-4-one/">Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One</a> <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/09/14/ratchet-clank-all-4-one-limited-beta-launches-win-a-spot-now/">Limited Beta</a> over the last couple of weeks, and we’re excited for you to get your hands on the full game this October 18th. Recently, we’ve released videos showing off the different elements of the game, including a particularly epic spot focused on the light-eating Z’Grute boss that our heroes (and villain) must battle in the city of Luminopolis. This latest video we want to share takes place on the Aldaros Plains, one of the first areas you’ll explore on Planet Magnus.
