I’ve got shocking news for PlayStation.Blog readers: Tomorrow marks the five-year anniversary of PlayStation 3’s launch in the United States of America. Just think -- our beloved black box was born into a primordial world where online multiplayer modes were the exception, not the rule; HDDs were a side option for game consoles, not a standard feature; standard-def DVDs were the only choice for home video; and Nathan Drake wasn’t a household name. It’s unthinkable! To mark the big day (which technically hits tomorrow, November 17th), I asked an army of industry-leading game developers to share their top three “must play†PS3 games. The result is a a definitive list of*PS3 games by some of the best game designers in the business. And stay tuned: more developer selections may be on the way! More...

At long last, THQ and our friends at PlayStation are proud to unveil additional content for Saints Row: The Third owners on PS3. Go back to a simpler time, when the Saints were vying for control of Stilwater, before they were global icons, a household name, and a criminal empire. Before Professor Genki and the Syndicate, there were the Westside Rollers and the Brotherhood. Enjoy classic Saints Row activities like Septic Avenger, where you spray new homes with sewage in order to devalue property. And of course, enjoy a number of DLC packs brought to you by Volition’s favorite Saints Row 2 producer, Tera Patrick. More...

Coming to the PlayStation Store this week is a new category called PS3 Full Games for games that were previously disc only but are now available to download on PSN. Not only will this make it easier for you to find those larger previously disc-only experiences, but you’ll also find DLC, add-ons, demos, and any other content associated with games in this category all housed in the same area once you click on the respective game. Games that are developed and exclusively available via download are now in the newly created PSN Games category. Kicking off the new PS3 Full Game category is the release of Red Dead Redemption and the Undead Nightmare Collection. You can either download these 2 standalone titles separately, or save some money and pick up the bundle including both Red Dead Redemption (Full Game) and its zombified expansion Undead Nightmare Collection (Add-on). All Red Dead Redemption content is 30% off, or snag a 50% discount if you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber. In PSN Game new releases; check out Jurassic Park – The Game, from the episodic masters of gaming: Telltale Games. This 4 episode experience brings gamers back to Isla Nublar to deliver a new take on the Jurassic Park experience. If you took advantage of the Plus subscription offer from a few weeks back, you’ll find a voucher code to download Jurassic Park (all 4 episodes) waiting for you in your PS3 inbox. More...

Jurassic Park: The Game launches today on PSN and will be available for free to all new PlayStation Plus subscribers who purchased a one-year Plus subscription between 11/1 and 11/8. In honor of today’s PSN launch, we wanted to give players a sneak peek of the dinosaurs that roam the park and menace the player. Many new prehistoric creatures await you in the full game, but below are five of the big-league thunder lizards that you will face later today.
Tyrannosaurus Rex
The frightening Tyrannosaurus Rex, often known as the king of the dinosaurs, stands over 13 feet tall and is 40 feet from its snout to the tip of its tail. With Jurassic Park's T-Rex having been clocked at 32 miles per hour, this carnivore is not one you'd want to come face-to-face with. Especially not while searching for a lost can of Barbasol shaving cream filled with stolen embryos! This deadly dino is never more than a few colossal footsteps away from the heroes of Jurassic Park: The Game. Park veterinarian, Gerry Harding, and his young daughter Jess have the first run-in with the T-Rex as they attempt to coax a Triceratops out of the road. This meeting results in an epic battle between two of the most famous dinosaurs known to man. More...

It’s been quite a while since I posted to the PlayStation.Blog - after the busy summer tradeshow schedule we have hunkered down to concentrate on making Sly Cooper: Thieves in Times the best game of 2012! Over the summer, I spent a lot of time showing our progress on the game and talking about how we are making sure we stay true to the core of the Sly Cooper series - but now I want to start talking about the NEW things we are bringing to Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. When we played the old Sly Cooper games on the PS2, we loved the stories about the Cooper clan ancestors and their various thieving abilities. Something that is really exciting and fun for Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is that you can not only travel back in time to meet these ancestors but you will also have the ability to play as the Cooper Clan ancestors! As you proceed through the game each episode you encounter features a new time period with a new playable ancestor. More...

I’m Mark Tsai, president and co-founder at Magic Pixel Games in Los Angeles. We’ve taken the physical accuracy of the PlayStation Move motion controller, Magic Pixel’s expertise in motion-controlled gaming, and the fun of the carnival…and rolled them into a truly family-friendly, instantly-accessible experience. It’s all the fun of the fair without having to find parking! More...

It's been 29 years since BurgerTime hit arcades, but there's still there’s a legion of fans waiting for a modern revival of one of the tastiest puzzle games ever. BurgerTime World Tour isn't just BurgerTime with HD graphics; it's a maturation of the arcade classic with evolved elements and platform features that make for a whole new game. BurgerTime World Tour has been re-built from the ground up on a rotating cylindrical 3D world upon which you build your burgers from top to bottom. Follow famed burger chef Peter Pepper as he traverses four different culinary countries (New York, Paris, Mexico, and Tokyo) and creates giant burgers while dodging zany condiments and frenetic foods like Frank Furter, the splenetic sausage or Sonny, the indelible edible egg. Peter Pepper will have his way with these ingredients as he drops burger pieces onto them to include them in the burger (bonus points and custom burgers!), flips them off the screen with a tornado spatula attack, or engulfs them with flames from the new hot sauce powerup, just to name a few. With over 50 levels, BurgerTime World Tour's a meaty package. More...

When talk turns to classic strategy RPGs, most players immediately think of Tactics Ogre, Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics. These games could hold one’s interest for hours upon hours. Battles would be so intense and challenging that players needed to constantly find ways - no matter how small - to eke out an advantage that could be the difference between sweet victory or shameful defeat. Tomorrow, MonkeyPaw Games will revive the now-rare Vanguard Bandits on PSN and with it, resurrect the glory days of classic strategy RPGs. Originally published as Epica Stella by Human Entertainment in Japan, Vanguard Bandits was released by legendary publisher Working Designs in North America. The PSone game was loaded with content: 60 different missions, three branching storylines, crazy plot twists and dialogue on the Ruin Branch, five endings and path-crossing narratives. Vanguard Bandits kept gamers glued to their screens for marathon gameplay sessions. More...

With Medieval Moves: Deadmund’s Quest launching tomorrow for PlayStation Move, Senior Producer Jeremy Ray highlights the game’s weapon arsenal in a new dev diary. The game team worked hard to build a game where the combat feels as intuitive as possible. Holding a PlayStation Move motion controller in front of you as a shield or swinging your sword feels natural for a player of almost any age, and the one-to-one precision goes a long way to keep you immersed in the experience. That’s paired with seamless, almost unnoticeable transition between your weapons: with the sword and shield at the ready in your hands, you can reach over your shoulder for your bow and arrow or grab those throwing stars from your belt. The result is a game that rewards all ages and levels of gaming skill without the need for a ton of abstract button presses. More...

Hey there PlayStation Assassins! We’ve got something really special for you today… and it’s exclusive to this fine PlayStation.Blog you are reading right now! In Assassin’s Creed Revelations, we’re linking our multiplayer and single-player experiences by including our multiplayer characters in the single-player campaign. What we want to show you today is a profile of one of these characters, specifically The Sentinel: a former Assassin who betrayed the Brotherhood to join the Templars. Watch our new video to discover how this vile turncoat will cross paths with Ezio! You can see from the video that The Sentinel uses techniques in multiplayer that you might expect of an Assassin, killing quickly and quietly. He favors the discreet use of knives and his trusty Hidden Blade to eliminate his targets without alerting any nearby assailants. Of course, he’s not above the occasional flourish of brutality, crushing the life from his targets with a precisely placed stomp… which is always a useful tool for intimidating one’s opponents! Jeff's on some well-deserved R-and-R, so I'll be helming this week's reading list. No surprises here: The launch of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Call of Duty: MW3 dominated mindshare, while UNCHARTED 3 continues to earn top marks. One more thing: Some PlayStation.Blog readers have mentioned encountering issues with our new YouTube-based video platform, particularly videos that require an age verification to see (i.e. Mature-rated videos). Below, we've embedded a video. If you don't see it, please help us by leaving a comment outlining a) your operating system (Windows, Mac, Android, etc) your web browser and version number c) a description of the problems you are seeing (missing video, non-functional video, error code, etc) and d) any other information that seems important. These days, you'll most often find me hunched on the carpet in front of my PS3 surrounded by maps, game guides, and empty Diet Coke cans as I struggle (mostly in vain) to keep up with this fall's imposing software lineup. I've been punctuating my lengthy Skyrim sessions with Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer matches (nice to see it supports splitscreen MP) and chapters from UNCHARTED 3's well-paced narrative. In my 20-year history of game playing, I can't remember a fall game lineup that tops what we're seeing on the PS3 right now. Inspiring! What are you playing this weekend? What's your all-time favorite fall lineup? More...

Hey PlayStation fans! Unless you’ve been under a rock for the last 65 million years, then you probably already know that we’ve been hard at work crafting Jurassic Park: The Game. But did you realize that it’s only a matter of days until you can find yourself back on the Isla Nublar? On November 15th, you’ll be able to download all four episodes of Jurassic Park: The Game from PlayStation Network. That is, if you have what it takes to go face to giant toothy face with a massive T-Rex! We’ve created a game like nothing you’ve ever played before. Jurassic Park is about dinosaurs, but as fans of the movie know, it’s also about much more than that. It’s about the people that encounter the dinosaurs and how their lives change because of it. It’s about nature and what happens when we don’t respect it. More...

We’re days away from the release of Need for Speed The Run, the illicit cross-country race from San Francisco to New York in the fastest cars on the planet. Jack (played by Hollywood actor Sean Faris) finds himself racing against 200 other racers in pursuit of a $25 million cash prize. Speaking of Hollywood, if PlayStation fans haven’t seen the new trailer directed by Michael Bay, definitely take a look right now (above). Seriously cool, huh? In true Michael Bay form, it’s jam-packed with action and explosions. What’s really neat is that Bay actually took time to get his hands on the game, and talk with our creative team for inspiration.
