Survival Mode in Modern Warfare 3 has been detailed, and it comes as part of the Spec Ops mode in the game which unlike MW2, will be playable outside of single-player mode this time out. According to a post over on USA Today, the Spec Ops mode contains a progressive ranking system, matchmaking, leaderboards, and the above referenced survival mode on the multiplayer maps. “All that stuff really fleshes out Spec Ops and adds in a lot that we know our fans are going to love, some of the most addictive aspects of Multiplayer,†said Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling. One map is called Dome, which has waves of enemies coming at you in a “desert radar command bunker,†which looks straight out of the Cold War era. With in-game currency you can purchase a turret to help you out with said waves and attack dogs, some of which are also suicide bombers that explode after you shoot them. Same goes for kamikaze soldiers. “You definitely have to change up your strategy as the enemy changes up,†Bowling said. “Obviously how you fight the kamakazi dudes is different from how you fight the normal dudes and how you fight a dog is different from a dude and how you fight juggernauts, they are not only big and armored, so they will just brute force come at you. But they each have their own way of being taken out effectively.†“We have all been challenged. There’s such hard-core players out there in the online community and you hear all the stories about the 8-year-olds, 12 year-olds and 13-year-olds swearing and ruining the experience,†added Sledgehammer’s Michael Condrey. “With Spec Ops, you can really get in there and hone your skills in a more confined environment. I think it’s a little more of an easy entry. I don’t have as much time as I did when I was 20 to be honing my twitch skills, but this certainly gives me a venue to experiment.†Modern Warfare 3 will deploy on November 8 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. A brand new, action packed trailer of Bleach: Soul Resurreccion (or Bleach: Soul Ignition) has recently been released! It features Ulquiorra, Soifon, Byakuya, Grimmjow, Yammy, Hitsuguya, Starrk, Halibel, Rukia, Ishida, Aizen, of course our hero, Ichigo! The trailer even shows the character selection screen (not with all of the playable characters, only some) at around 1:35. Bleach: Soul Resurreccion is an action/adventure game under development by Sony for the PlayStation 3. It will feature 21 playable characters from the Bleach anime/manga series, free-roaming action, various game modes, and the ability to customize and level up characters. NetherRealm Studios head and Mortal Kombat co-creator ko-kreator Ed Boon has revealed via his Twitter feed that all of the retailer-specific pre-order DLC released for the series’ ninth installment will soon be made available as one downloadable, for-pay kollection. “The 7 Klassic outfits & 3 Klassic fatalities that were retailer exclusives will be bundled into one DLC package,” Boon writes. “Trailer coming on Friday.” For those who haven’t been keeping tabs on said content, it includes “classic” variants of Ermac, Jade, Kitana, Mileena, Reptile, Scorpion and Sub-Zero, along with additional fatalities for Reptile, Scorpion and Sub-Zero. The last time publisher Take-Two talked about Spec Ops: The Line, the sandy, Dubai-based shooter, it was due no later than March 31, 2012. The new Spec Ops now has another new release date drawn in the sand. Take-Two updated the release window for Spec Ops: The Line from fiscal year 2012 to first half fiscal 2013. In real world terms, that means sometime between April 1, 2012 and September 30, 2012. The game, announced at the end of 2009 and shown at last year’s E3, was originally scheduled for Take-Two’s 2011 fiscal year. Spec Ops: The Line had an Xbox 360-only beta test last year. Contrary to previous reports, the PlayStation Store will not open its digital doors today in North America. Sony Computer Entertainment America reps confirm that we’ll have to wait a little longer while the PlayStation Network deals with scheduled maintenance. Sony’s Jeff Rubenstein writes on the official PlayStation blog that “we’re still targeting restoration of all services by the end of this month.” The PlayStation Store was supposedly coming back online today, the first step in a series of quick updates that would bring digital content for PlayStation 3 and PSP to those without an update since April 19. New ‘Greatest Hits’ ad promises both games and exclusive Resistance 3 content. If the new box art for Resistance 3 has you all hot and bothered but you’ve never played one of developer Insomniac Games’ shooters before, Sony has your number. A new Resistance Greatest Hits entrant is coming, and it’s packing Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. An insert packed with the Battle: Los Angeles Blu-ray — a disc that contains a demo for Resistance 3 –advertises the “dual pack” and says the combo will include $10 worth of bonus content as well as an exclusive Resistance 3 skin. We have just received from an unlikely source – but very trustworthy source – of some big Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer details. Although unwilling to give further details, what with the official gameplay trailer tonight, our source said that further details of it will be unveiled ‘in the coming weeks’. Our source did say that the game will feature cod points, but in a heavily ‘redesigned and*refocused*way’. This could mean you earn it differently, as he said that ‘wager matches are unlikely to return’. It could also mean you spend it in different ways, as he goes on to say ‘single player has a very multiplayer feel to it, with some interesting ideas to it’. We can only speculate that this may be the ability to buy weapons in single player with cod points, although our source said not to take his word for that specific point. He also said that there will be ‘a huge improvement in the number of maps, modes and game types’, and to expect ‘more people on maps than you would normally expect’. 32 players was thrown about, but he didn’t want to comment any more on it. *He did say whilst there will be no more wager matches, as he said Infinity Ward are in the mind of how they didn’t copy Zombies, they won’t copy wager matches, but he did say there will be some incorporated ‘similar modes’ to that of wager matches. He also let slip that ‘they might include teams of three for one mode’ although he stopped into going into any more details, sounding unsure whether it would make the cut. Finally he said there may be ‘up to 23 maps from launch, but they have plans for huge post-support DLC’. This echoes what fourzerotwo said on twitter about*Infinity*Ward having plans for longer post-launch support. Question is: if true or not – will these enhancements be enough to keep gamers away from other franchise such as Battlefield 3, and stick to their Call of Duty roots? Like Battlefield: Bad Company 2 before it, Battlefield 3 will be arriving at retail in a regularly priced “Limited Edition,” encouraging folks to pre-order the game before its planned fall launch. The UK will get the “Physical Warfare” version for the same price as the regular edition, which includes a small arsenal of weaponry, as well as access to the “Back to Karkand” multiplayer expansion — four remade maps from Battlefield 2. As this edition has only been announced for the UK thus far, it can only be ordered from GAME and GameStation for now, running the standard £39.99 on 360/PS3 and £34.99 on PC. That said, when EA initially confirmed the “Back to Karkand” expansion, DICE community manager Daniel Matros noted that it would be available worldwide via an in-box code. Sony has released a video which showcases 7 minutes of Resistance 3 gameplay footage.* The video comes from a level in the game which is set around the “Mississippi*Riverâ€, and features Cappelli and Malikov hiding from a goliath while defending themselves from various other Chimeran attackers. Upcoming first-person zombie game Dead Island has been promising a few twists and novel features outside the usual “run around and kill zombies” formula. Talking a good game isn’t as good as playing a good game, though, and while we can’t play the thing yet, we can watch somebody else do it. Which is better than nothing! I’m liking the little extra touches on show here, like the melee combat options and the RPG elements like crafting, instant travel around the map and quests. Lightbox boss Dylan Jobe has said that there will be a Starhawk beta at some point. Speaking to readers on the US PS Blog, Jobe wouldn’t get into more detail about it. “There will be a BETA but we just can’t talk any specifics right now — stay tuned to the blog for more info,†he said.
