Introducing PlayStation Rewards – A New Way to Earn Exclusive Status and Recognition

Today, we’re excited to share news of the launch of PlayStation Rewards, a new program that recognizes and rewards our users for simply doing what they love – playing games and interacting with the entertainment content that PlayStation has to offer. We really wanted to create something that says, “thank you” for being a loyal PlayStation fan.

 

In its initial launch tomorrow (Oct. 28th), PlayStation Rewards will be an invitation-only beta to all eligible PlayStation Plus and Gamer Advisory Panel (GAP) members. We’re kicking things off as a beta so that we can get feedback from our most loyal fans in order to make it the best possible rewards program it can be. It’s also worth noting that during the beta phase, the program will be focused on PlayStation 3 owners, but we hope to include PSP users as well not too far down the road. Oh, and one more thing: PlayStation Rewards will be free – there is no fee to join!

 

Now, to give you a bit more details on the new loyalty program… PlayStation Rewards is designed to give you the opportunity to gain exclusive status, recognition, and rewards as a thank you for your continued interest in PlayStation. And, the best part is that you don’t have to do anything different. Keep playing new games, buying content purchased from PlayStation Network in the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Home, download movies and TV shows, or just communicate with us by taking one of our surveys, for example, and you’ll now be recognized for it.

 

The more you play and participate, the more progress you’ll make through our three reward tiers — “Select,” “Pro,” and “Legendary.” As your status increases, so do the rewards. And if you want to check out your current status level, simply go to your private profile page and look at the reward progress meter.

 

So what do you get? Right now, rewards include things like…

 

• Exclusive PSN avatars that display member status in the program
  
• Exclusive dynamic themes and PlayStation Home content
  
• Opportunities throughout the program year to participate in members-only sweepstakes and giveaways for experiences and merchandise you won’t find elsewhere (The first of which is an all expenses paid trip to the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, as PlayStation’s guest)
  

 

That’s just the start and our plan is to continually grow and improve the reward offering as the program itself evolves. Your feedback in this beta period will help make the program even better!!

Haha same! I think I just got to level 13 in trophies. It goes so slow once you get to level 12. I'm working on my Platinum for Medal of Honor (need 1 more trophy), so that should shoot my XP up.

Here's how it works. Earn progress toward rewards every time you play a new game for the first time or buy stuff from PlayStation®Store, including movies, shows and games. Then start racking up cool rewards like exclusive dynamic themes, avatars and PlayStation®Home items, and get the chance to participate in members-only sweepstakes and giveaways.

I hope they count what we've already played, our trophies, and what we bought from the store. I'm only at level 7 (379) for trophies though.

I also did the Beta test for the 360 last year. It ran for a year. I was able to rack up over 1000 microsoft points that I used to put towards map packs or any other stuff.

 

Its another little incentive. I can't wait to see what they have in store.

What does this mean?:

 

Does the program ever reset?

Yes - your progress in the program resets at the end of every program cycle, on March 31st of each year. You will retain whatever status you had earned by that date for exactly one year, and during that year you'll have the opportunity to once again rise in the ranks and boost your status for the following program cycle. You can always check how you're doing at us.playstation.com.

 

 

Once I reach a reward level, how do I stay there?

Once you reach a reward level, you'll retain that standing for the remainder of the current program cycle and the entire following cycle (each cycle ends in March). Of course, that doesn't mean you should stop trying to rise in the ranks. Remember, if at any point you reach the next reward level, you'll be immediately promoted.

 

 

What happens if I fail to re-earn my current status by the end of the program cycle?

When the program calendar starts anew every April 1st, your progress meter resets, but you retain whatever status you earned during the previous program calendar through to the end of the program year. You can view your current status and progress on the PlayStation®Rewards tab under My Profile at us.playstation.com. Stay active though, because status is only retained for the following program year.

I got 2 invites lol. One for Playstation Plus on o-BacklasH-o and one for GAP on smokeosama. Is there any way I can transfer my GAP status from smokeosama to o-BacklasH-o, since I long ago retired the smoke name.

So let's say you are Normal (or whatever). Then you gain enough points to get to the next level, Pro. Then you are halfway through Pro, and on March 31st, they take you back to Pro with 0 points? The point of this being...?
