TOW-19 Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 EVERYTHING with my PS3 works fine, online-wise and all....but it cannot sustain a reading of my Call of Duty disc. With the way it is acting, and my CoD4 disc being crystal clean, I can only guess it might be a laser problem that I have read about. My QUESTION: Has anyone gone through this yet and, if you have, can I just take this back to Best Buy under my Best Buy-bought Warranty to REPLACE it with something in the store, or will they say "we have to ship this back and wait for your replacement." ALSO, if I AM returning this for an exchange, should I DELETE all my account info on the PS3 I now have? And what do I have to do to get that info back on my new one? NEW account or retrieve my old one? Help please.....as I can STILL make it to a Best Buy store tonight. Quote
Guest H.A.V.0.C Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Dude I would just take it back. i know thats not what you want to hear but better safe than sorry. Quote
TOW-19 Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 I have no problem with taking it back.....just, how difficult would it be to put all my info (account info) back onto a new unit? Will there be complications? Quote
Guest H.A.V.0.C Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Man.. its all on the hard drive bro. So you will lose it all. BUT you should be able to retrieve all your friends list when you sign on with your name on the new system. As far as anything you may have downloaded it will go with the PS3 unless you take the HDD out. Quote
Guest H.A.V.0.C Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Basically your account info will stay the same. Quote
TOW-19 Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 H.A.V.0.C ]Basically your account info will stay the same. I better write down all that info then. LOL Quote
GOAT Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 OH man tow I had this with the Xbox. just last week and had my PS3 go down with a network card problem.. anyway from what I found out thinking I may have to get a new PS3.. you have to delete or unassociate your PSN account on the old machine before you setup the same account on the new one.. or something like that... On the new consoles PSN setup it gives the option of setting a new one or using an existing one.. you say no use one you have and give it the sign in email, pass, etc.. I believe you can only set up five machines this way or something like that, but this is more for using a friends machine to access your content. I think you may have to make sure you unassociate or delete the account from the old console to fully transfer the account. NOt sure sorry bro, but this is something I'd call Sony about or use their online support live chat and/or email thing. Quote
TOW-19 Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 Anyone got a link to that online support chat? Quote

GOAT Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 http://www.us.playstation.com/Support There is a link to the online chat support on this page but when I click it, it goes to "Fatal Error Unable to load page" > Quote
HippieChik Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Can't you save some of your stuff off the hard drive onto a flash drive or multiple flash drives or an external hard drive? Just curious. Seems like you should be able to. Quote
TOW-19 Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 Goat ]http://www.us.playstation.com/Support There is a link to the online chat support on this page but when I click it, it goes to "Fatal Error Unable to load page" > Yeah, me too. And thanks for the hint, Hippie....that should cut down on some of the re-downloading of some of the content I have. Quote
GOAT Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 You may have to log in first to use that link.. I'm trying to find my password and stuff for the PSN underground network now... I tried what I thought it was but it didn't work.... schit!! Try signing in to the underground network and see it that gets you in live chat.. or maybe it's only available during buis. hours? Also have you tried other game disk, DVD's or other media.. is it all or just COD? Quote
GOAT Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Here Undertow, This is all I can find out at this hour on disk reading errors.. they give the number to call at the bottom if all of their suggestions fail. http://playstation.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/playstation.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=263 Quote
Directors John Posted January 18, 2008 Directors Report Directors Posted January 18, 2008 I find it pretty fishy on Sonys part that you have a read error today and so did one of my shooters........ Quote
TOW-19 Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 Sadist ]I find it pretty fishy on Sonys part that you have a read error today and so did one of my shooters........ Well this makes me NOT want to waste time in the return line at Best Buy...... ??? Quote
TOW-19 Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 Ok, I'm GOING to return this to Best Buy today. HOWEVER, I want to delete my account info from the system before I return it. Now, when it says DELETE, will I be deleting my account from the SYSTEM I have, or will I be deleting my account from any type of Playstation network or database? Anyone know? Have experience with this? Quote
banshee07 Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 when you get everything off that you need just format the drive and your good to go. Quote
TOW-19 Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 I NEED TO KNOW IF I DELETE MY ACCOUNT FROM THIS PS3, DOES IT DELETE THE ACCOUNT FOR GOOD ON EVERYTHING, OR JUST ON THIS PS3, and when I get a new one, it can "find" my same account info again. Quote
krazyeyedkevin Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 All your info follows your PSN ID, you could always ask BB to exchange the PS3 and ask them to keep your HD and swap it for the new one.. They did that here in london, Ontario. Quote
TOW-19 Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 Hmmmm.....unless there's something wrong with my HD. I'm inclined to think it's my laser, but I'm no tech and I'm not sitting inside my PS3. I don't have loads of things saved on my HD where I would need to save my HD....and as long as I can recover my account info and plug it all into a new unit, I'm fine with a completely new system. I got some answers from the Playstation forums as well. I'll be picking up my new unit today. Thanks for the help, everyone. Quote
Directors John Posted January 18, 2008 Directors Report Directors Posted January 18, 2008 good luck. I hope this isn't the beginning of another plague like the Fat PS2 laser. Quote
TOW-19 Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 Sadist ]good luck. I hope this isn't the beginning of another plague like the Fat PS2 laser. LOL....my PS2 lasted me 5 straight years of constant use a never, NEVER a single problem with it. But then again, when I traded it in when I got my PS3, the Game Stop manager couldn't believe the pristine condition my 5-yr old fat PS2 was in....LOL. I take care of my shit. Which is why I'm a little miffed at my PS3 right now. Quote
[RIP]saint52 Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Did you get the replacement unit? Quote
TOW-19 Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 Not yet, won't for another three hours. Quote
