  3. The PlayStation Move is upon people and packing a bunch of cute games, but they want to shoot stuff in the face. Thankfully, Sony swung by with SOCOM 4 and PlayStation Move controls. Want to know if the military action works with motion? Socom 4 is listed at Gamestop with a release date of March 1, 2011, so hopefully it will be out around that time. 4. The PSN network will be undergoing maintenance from Tuesday, September 21, 17h until Wednesday , September 22, *3h according to a forum post on the official Playstation forums. This scheduled maintenance is likely for the firmware update that Sony plans to release the same day which will provide 3D Blu-Ray functionality for the PS3s. As usual, access to the Playstation Store , creation and management of PS accounts will be restricted during this maintenance period. However, you can game online and do other activities. 5. Rockstar has released a new video for Red Dead Redemption, which gives you a sneak peak at the upcoming Liars and Cheats Pack. The pack adds more challenges to the multiplayer world of the game, and introduces Stronghold, a new team-based competitive multiplayer mode. The Exploding Rifle also makes its debut, along with multiplayer Poker and Liars’ Dice and horse racing. There’s also four new hunting grounds full of bear and cougar. None of this is considered “fair and honest” though, thus the name of the DLC pack. Liars and Cheaters will be available for download September 21 on PSN and XBL for $9.9/800 MSP. UK gets it on PSN September 22. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...
  6. Rockstar has detailed its Undead Nightmare Pack for Red Dead Redemption a bit more. It has zombies, remember? Slated for fall, the Undead Nightmare Pack is a mostly single-player campaign tasking John Marston with finding a cure for a “highly infectious zombie plague that has spread across the frontier”. In addition, pack also features new gameplay mechanics, weapons, zombie animals, mythical creatures and a brand new secret location. A new multiplayer mode will also be included, with Rockstar promising more information on it soon. The Undead Nightmare Pack will be available simultaneously for download via PSN and XBL for $9.99/800 MSP. No exact date yet, but we’ve heard rumblings it will be released the week of Halloween. We’ll just have to wait on see what Rockstar says, though. Until then, Liars and Cheaters is out next week. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...

  8. Would it be wrong if we said we want this now? No? Good. We want this now. GT’s posted up the gameplay tech demo of Metal Gear Solid: Rising, shown at this morning’s Microsoft TGS keynote. Producer Shigenobu Matsuyama and director Minesh Kimura took to the stage to demo the game live for the first time ever, showing Raiden cutting items like watermelons and bowling pins from all angles. It really does look awesome. Rising, a Ninja Gaiden-like hack and slash title, takes place as a sequel to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty as well as a prequel to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. 9. Jeremy Dunham, senior community manager for Zipper Interactive, has announced over on the game’s official blog some information regarding the next update for MAG. Dubbed MAG 2.0, the patch is less than a month out, and it includes the following: PlayStation Move support An increased level cap that goes to level 70 A revamped Skill Tree that allows for the deepest character customization and specialization ever found in a first-person shooter A brand-new in-game economy that lets you earn credits to spend on weapons and items from the also-new “Supply Depot” “Clan Deploy” feature that enables clan leaders and officers to queue up to 128 of their fellow clan members into a single game A “MAG News” page that brings players up to date on all the latest happenings the moment they log in A multitude of updates that refine existing weapons, maps, and vehicles Important bug fixes and other enhancements that streamline the overall experience Zipper promised more information on the MAG 2.0 patch as a release gets closer, and also plans to dish more on the next available DLC pack, which includes the new Escalation mode and nine new weapons. MAG 2.0, huh. Sounds a lot like something we’ve seen before. Since you can purchase MAG at retail, it’s not too far-fetched to assume new discs shipping with Move support will be released. 12. If you haven’t heard already, Sony has patented an alternative to software emulation when it comes to backwards compatibility. This new patent is an external device that essentially contains the architecture of a PS2 with no disc slot because your PS3 will act as the disc drive. Sony has been very evasive about the topic of Backwards Compatibility. We have no idea if Sony will implement this device in the future, but I believe we just might because of a little mystery the PS3 Slim created. This patent could explain why they didn’t take out the feature to create a PS1 and PS2 internal memory card when they made the PS3 Slim. Think about it, Sony is a bunch of planners. They didn’t just whip this patent out of thin air. I’m sure they already had the plans ready for this when the Slim was being created. Why wouldn’t Sony take the ability to create internal memory cards from the Slim if they were committed to not giving PS3 owners Backwards Compatibility? Sony knew that the feature would come in handy in the future. Remember, the patented device doesn’t contain a HDD, just the RAM, CPU, and GPU, so you will definitely need it to save PS2 files. The PS2 could also play PS-One games, so that angle is handled as well. Would you buy this adapter if the price was right? I think I would, but my PS2 library isn’t as impressive as some gamers out there. // Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...

  15. Medal of Honor’s multiplayer component debuted earlier this year in a public closed beta to a very mixed response from those who played it. Some gamers thought it was incredibly enjoyable and provided just enough new twists on the team deathmatch formula to continue to be fun, while others didn’t think much of it at all, going as far as to say it was a mix between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2, while bringing nothing new to the table. Regardless, development on Medal of Honor multiplayer has continued at DICE since the beta closed, however, and the team responsible for bringing the game’s online competitive mode to market has taken the extensive feedback it received during the beta and made many changes and tweaks to the way this mode plays. A few moments ago, an overtly healthy (obese even) changelog list appeared on the Medal of Honor blog featuring every single change made to Medal of Honor multiplayer since the release of the beta, until now. 16. The game’s only just come out this morning and already dirty cheaters are plaguing the servers of Halo Reach. But it sounds like Bungie’s about to get serious on all of you. Issuing a stern warning to cheaters, Bungie says it has a number of new ban hammer tools primed and ready to fire on those that threaten to spoil the multiplayer experience of its precious Halo sendoff. “Our team is standing at the ready behind the sights of our fully operational Banhammer Battlestation. We take the Reach online experience VERY seriously,” the developer said. “Bungie has invested years of hard work creating a game that we want our fans to enjoy for years to come and we have zero tolerance for people who try and ruin that experience for others. “We are already aware of a number of nefarious deeds by a very small percentage of early adopters and we have already been taking action. We expect that a few more will turn up once the population explodes on September 14th. We will be ready, watching, waiting, firing at will on people who deserve it,” it added. And with the new game comes many new types of ban, so no form of bad behavior is impossible to punish. “We have all sorts of new fancy tools at our disposal now and as we start to come up to full speed we’ll be engaging all of them,” Bungie added. “Voice bans, host bans, console bans, gamertag bans, credit bans and the automatic habitual quitter penalty are but a few of our sharply honed weapons hungering for blood.” You have been warned. Don’t ruin the fun. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...
  17. Red Dead Redemption’s Liars and Cheats DLC is due out next week, bringing with it the brand new Stronghold game type, and this is what it looks like. You can never have enough flags in online multiplayer games; that’s what I always say. Red Dead’s new Stronghold multiplayer mode increases the number of flags in Rockstar’s cowboy game by two, and that’s definitely more flags than there were previously, so I’m all for it. I know with my skill level I will never get close to either one, but it’s still nice to know they’re there. Liars and Cheats will be available for purchase on September 21. 18. When Modern Warfare 2 was released back in 2009, PC gamers were outraged that the game didn’t allow them to set up their own servers for multiplayer. At the time, Infinity Ward/Activision’s response was “We’re not all that worried about it.” But, as well told you back in May, Activision has changed their policy for Modern Warfare: Black Ops. They said the game will feature dedicated servers, but we recently learned the catch:* You’ll have to use Gameservers.com, exclusively, to run your matches. “We are extremely excited about this unprecedented relationship with Activision to offer dedicated servers exclusively for Black Ops”, said GameServers CEO David Aninowsky. “We are placing a great amount of pressure on ourselves to ensure that we exceed any and all expectations.” The official explanation for the use of Game Servers mentions that the service will help keep cheaters and hackers at bay. Treyarch Community Manager Josh Olin told IGN.com: “If you rent a server, you will still have the ability to Kick, Ban, and Configure it the way you see fit,” Olin added. “Of course Ranked servers will have some set configurations that can’t be messed with; but you will still have the power to administrate your servers as a customer of GameServers.” Ranked servers will cost $14.95 a month for an 18 max player limit. Discounts are offered for monthly prepays. Unranked servers will cost $0.99 a month per player up to maximum of 24. Teamspeak support will have an additional fee. Discounts will be offered for a 3, 6, and 12 month prepay. This is an interesting situation in which the “traditional” culture of PC gaming, in which players have free reign to alter games through mods and whatnot, is running against the “change nothing!” culture of console gaming. This is an interesting half-step in some direction, but I’d lay odds that it will take less than a week before some enterprising gamer figures out a work-around for running his/her own server.[/url] Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...

  21. One of the most enticing features of Sony’s premium PlayStation Network service, PlayStation Plus, was the promise of exclusive betas for subscribers. While the free games and special deals offered by the service are certainly nothing to sneeze at, the chance of getting access to a game before anyone else has spurred many gamers to become PlayStation Plus members. Sony has now given the first details on the upcoming betas, with more to follow soon. Over on the US PlayStation Blog Lex Scheuble PSN Marketing Manager said: “Many game betas are done to test certain parts of a game or certain functionality (like previous game add-on integration) so that when the final version of the game launches, it’s the best it can be. Oftentimes, betas are extremely limited as well. We need to ensure that members of Plus meet that individual beta’s requirement to be issued an exclusive invite. There are two betas for PlayStation Plus members coming up shortly and more details will be announced soon.” However, surprisingly, not all PlayStation Plus subscribers will be eligible for some of the upcoming betas. “Betas have limited invites and based on selection criteria not every PlayStation Plus member will get access to every beta; however, we’re working with game developers to make qualified PlayStation Plus members the first to gain access.” Scheuble later responded to a reader’s comment which asked what sort of qualification permits PlayStation Plus members access to certain betas: “Hard to explain as they are different for every game, but more details are coming soon on the upcoming betas, so stay tuned.” One of the betas members can definitely look forward to is the recently announced PSN title Red Faction: Battlegrounds, and codes should be sent to emails in due course. 22. Call of Duty 7: Black Ops – CoD Points COD7 Black Ops features a brand new in-game currency: CoD Points. You still unlock weapons, equipment, abilities and customization through leveling up, but you have to purchase them before you can use them. As you play the game and earn experience points, you also earn CoD Points. You choose the way you play the game; not interested in the Red Dot Sight? Skip over it and buy the ACOG Sight instead – the same idea goes for Perks and Killstreaks. When you reach level 4, all Perks become available for purchase. Killstreaks work the same way, but they are unlocked at level 10. This system allows you to purchase what you want, when you want it, but you just have to make sure that you have the money. Earning money through regular gameplay is not the fastest way, but you do have two alternatives: Wager Matches and contracts. Contracts Contracts are basically challenges; they all have different goals and difficulty levels. You can buy contracts with CoD Points and completing a contract will earn you more CoD Points than you originally paid for the contract itself. Higher the difficulty, bigger the pay. You can also fail contracts as they have a in-game time limit. For example, you need to kill 10 players with the RC-XD killstreak in 30 minutes. If you don’t complete the contract in 30 minutes you don’t get anything – you also don’t get your invested CoD Points back. Wager Matches In Wager Matches players wager their CoD Points against everyone else. The top three players get rewarded, the first player earns the most, followed by the second and third player – the rest get nothing. Check out the video below for more information.
