  2. Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia, has said the team plans on “supporting the hell” out of Call of Duty: Black Ops, and believes you don’t need Online Pass to deter used games sales. Speaking with MCV, Lamia emphasized the multiplayer is included with the game you buy, and you don’t need a download code to play it. “I want to take that in the other direction and bring consumers really great reasons to keep their games, rather than trade them in,” he said. “Multiplayer is critical to the success of this series. It has such tremendous staying power – there are millions of people playing Call of Duty every day. “It’s entertaining people on a magnitude that’s mind-blowing and we work really hard to make sure it’s supported for a long time. “The effort that goes into the multiplayer is a living thing – we have a team that continues to work on it for World At War. We’ve done that for a long time and expect to do so for this game. “We’re going to support the hell out of Black Ops. That will be our focus post-release: making sure we keep our fans engaged, and hopefully as a result, they’ll want to keep playing our game and won’t want to trade it in.” Call of Duty: Black Ops is out November 9 for PC, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360. Don’t want to watch the vid to find out who it is? Scroll down… … … … …yes, that’s Tron Bonne, Capcom’s cutest ever robot driver, Mega Man character and star of 2000′s The Misadventures of Tron Bonne. 5. We’ve had a bevy of retailers ousting new games this past month. From the recently revealed Mass Effect 2 on PS3, to the still unannounced Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia Trilogies. The latest retailer listing is much more of a ‘massive’ surprise. A listing has recently appeared over at Walmart for a sequel to Zipper’s team based FPS, MAG. The only other detail listed is a tentative release date of the 25th of January next year. The first game was released earlier this year to a mixed a reaction from critics. Some found the ‘256 player battles’ to be nothing more than a gimmicky bullet-point for the back of the box but others relished the opportunity to charge into battle with 127 brethren. There is a lot of new features currently being tested in the MAG beta, but how the team over at Zipper could possibly expand on 256 players is a mystery, and almost bordering on witchcraft if you ask us. We’ll have more details on this potential sequel when and if they become available. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...

  7. Whilst the Beta client for anticipated PlayStation 3 exclusive LittleBigPlanet 2 is currently delighting players across Europe, those within North America are perhaps wondering when they’ll be reunited with Sackboy and his assortment of new tools. An anxious user on the Official PlayStation Community forums has contacted SCEA Customer Support, and has received the information that the Beta will be available within North America from September 14th. However, this will depend on whether any major issues arise from the weeks worth of exclusivity in Europe and also determined by when SCEA begin emailing out codes. The user, TSFRJ, full comments were “According to SCEA reps at phone number 1-866-286-5123, the North America LBP2 Beta goes live September 14th.” “Whether or not NA e-mails get sent by then is still unknown,” he continues. “Also they stated that if any major issues arise from the EU beta, then NA might get delayed but for now the current date is September 14th.” Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...
  8. LevelUp initiates tower defense against gaming clutter with a series of stylish all-in-one gaming storage solutions that make your console the base of its own video game tower. I’m constantly battling with video game clutter myself, particular with my game controllers. While I’ve yet to find a storage solution more convenient that halfway sticking out of the couch, LevelUp’s new gaming towers might be a strong contender. Each fully licensed (except for the Xbox 360 version) tower contains a place for your console with plenty of life-giving ventilation, slots for your favorite games, (non-charging) controller docks up top, and hooks to hold any plastic guitars you might have lying about the house. “The concept behind LevelUp is simple: gaming gear shouldn’t clutter the home,” said Jason , Lemelson, President of Level Up. “Our line of affordable towers makes it easy for every day consumers to keep their accessories in a functional tower that looks cool in any entertainment or gaming environment.” At $69.99 MSRP, each tower – the PlayStation 3 Alloy, Zig-Zag for XBOX 360, and Aperture and Trideca for Wii – won’t run you much more than a game. They’re an elegant solution to a common gaming problem. Of course if you have all three systems like I do, you’ll soon find yourself dealing with tower clutter, and I doubt they’ll fit snugly between your couch cushions. The Level Up towers will be available at participating U.S. retailers, including Toys R Us, Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohl’s and JCPenney. Check out the LevelUp website for more info. 9. This intense look at Medal of Honor’s multiplayer shows off the game’s Combat Mission mode. In the mode Coalition forces have to take out five consecutive objectives to win. As your clear an objective the map expands. The mode also has limited respawns, which the game calls reinforcements. The audio, as with the audio found in my play-through of the game’s helicopter mission (posted here), remains a high point for a what is shaping up to be a very solid looking shooter. Did you notice the Bradley Fighting Vehicle in the video? It can seat both a driver and a gunner. How about those Taliban you’re fighting against? Yeah, I didn’t notice that either. 17. At E3 Mad Catz announced their new range of controllers, peripherals, and accessories, as well as teased a new series of Call of Duty: Black Ops-branded surround sound gaming headphones under their newly acquired Tritton brand. Now, Mad Catz has finally lifted the veil on the new lineup and IGN has all of the details as well as video first look. The new headphone lineup will incorporate three models, the Call of Duty: Black Ops Dolby Digital True 5.1 ProGaming Headset, the Dolby Headphone 5.1 ProGaming Headset, and the True 5.1 ProGaming Headset, which feature custom Call of Duty: Black Ops logos and art and will ship world-wide for the 2010 holiday season. The top tier product, the Call of Duty: Black Ops Dolby Digital True 5.1 ProGaming Headset, is the only of the series to incorporate four unique drivers in each ear, which represent center, front, surround, and subwoofer channels for an immersive three-dimensional audio experience. The surround sound is processed by a dedicated 5.1 surround sound processor, which features a wide range of controls for a high level of personalization. The system also includes an in-line controller to alter the mix of each sound channel on the fly, as well as the volume of voice communications. The system is compatible with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, including integrated communication via a detachable boom microphone. The headset will come packaged with its own padded Call of Duty: Black Ops-branded carrying case, which stores the headphones, processing unit, interchangeable leather and fabric earpads, and all necessary cables. The sides of the headset feature glowing Tritton logos and Call of Duty: Black Ops branding. The Dolby Digital True 5.1 ProGaming Headset will cost $249.99 and will be exclusive to Best Buy in the United States. For those looking to save a little extra cash, Tritton has also produced a simulated surround version of the ProGaming headset, Dolby Headphone 5.1 ProGaming Headset, which will cost only $199 but will be exclusive to GameStop in the United States. The Dolby Headphone variation will feature its own dedicated surround sound processor with custom audio controls, as well as an in-line volume control for fast audio adjustments. Like the True 5.1 version, the Dolby Headphone comes with its own special carrying case and interchangeable earcup padding. The Dolby Headphone variation, unfortunately, lacks the illumination of the True 5.1 system. Finally, Tritton has crafted a headset specifically for PC, the True 5.1 ProGaming Headset for PC, which sheds the dedicated surround processors in exchange a direct USB or multichannel cable system that plugs directly into your computer’s existing sound card for a full 5.1 surround sound experience. The headset itself utilizes four drivers in earcups, and like the other variations, comes with its own carrying case and interchangeable earcups as well. The True 5.1 ProGaming Headset is the cheapest of the three with an MSRP of $149.99 and will be available wherever Tritton headsets are available. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...

  23. Duke Nukem is back and he needs to take a piss. The Duke Nukem Forever playable demo here at PAX 2010 makes the seemingly impossible a reality. People, including your Kotaku reporter, are playing Duke Nukem Forever, maybe a dozen years after we expected to. Duke, from what I can tell, hasn’t changed. He’s still cracking jokes, chewing bubblegum, and getting oral sex from two ladies at a time when he’s not using his guns — or his buggy — to obliterate his enemies. Duke Nukem Forever is, of course, a first person shooter. The controls are standard, mapped as you’d expect on the Xbox 360 controller on which I played the game. Zoom on the left trigger. Shoot on the right. Click the right stick to crouch. But, before all that, at the start of the demo, pull the right trigger to piss. The demo starts with a first person view of the urinal. You can make Duke urinate as much as you want. The wait is over! Well, no that’s not what this game is about. You’re in a football locker room. There are a couple of hot tubs and, in the main area, some soldiers gearing up for a fight. On the whiteboard they plan their move against the beast on the field. Their strategy: cockblock. You can draw on the whiteboard. I drew straight lines. But on another TV playing the game here at PAX I saw someone drawing a penis. The game is 100% in the spirit of classic Duke. By this point in the demo you’ve been hit with “Hail to the King, Baby,” and sooner or later he’s whistling, laughing at the bad guys he kills and lamenting that “Those alien bastards are going to pay for shooting up my ride.” When you leave the locker room, you race down some halls where aliens are fighting soldiers. These scripted sequences show some of the destructibility (mostly of your allies’ limbs) and the smoke and explosion effects in the game. The effects look modern, though not beyond what we see in other games. Out in the field, things became more impressive. A massive monster — the big aliens seen in leaked Duke artwork — is stomping across the grass. You’ve gone from just having your fists up to being armed with The Devastator, a big gun in each hand. Health is regenerative and the big bad guy wasn’t that tough in the demo. I unloaded my ammo into him, waited for the next ammo drop, and then fired some more. Duke finished him with a button-prompted melee move. The finale: press a button to do a “field goal,” which is a punt of the monster’s eye down the field. Cue the Duke Nukem Forever logo and a camera pulls back to show that Duke, in first-person, was playing a video game. He’s got a gold Xbox 360 controller with the face buttons re-named as D, U, K and E. There’s a busty lady in a schoolgirl outfit near the bottom of your first-person view. And there’s a second one. One stands up and wipes her mouth. “What about the game, was it any good?” one of them asks. “Yeah, but after 12 fucking years it should be,” he answers. After that the demo jumped forward to level 15, which began as a driving level. Duke was in a dune buggy, racing down a canyon as an alien shuttle streamed forward overhead. The buggy can boost for big jumps and, since aliens do run in its way, run over bad guys with a splat. Quickly, though, I was out of the buggy and running Duke toward an enemy turret, his laser-sighted pistol in hand. I was also able to get a railgun which had a scope and was good for headshots. One of the most prominent tech elements of the game is a depth-of-field aspect which blurs enemies who aren’t in Duke’s focus. Of the obvious tech demonstrations happening in the demo — the destruction shown as cacti splintered from gunfire, the shattered mirror back in the locker room — this blurring effect was the only one that was distracting. People wondered how Duke Nukem would make his return. Would a parody video game character steeped in 80s absurdity play in 2010? Or would he have to be a parody of a parody? It seems from the demo that Duke is strictly himself and that the kind of profane, naughty, steroid-injected humor of the Duke of old is indeed what will play in 2010 — or in 2011, to be more specific. The game is set for a 2011 release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Gearbox Software is working on the game with other studios and, we believe, creators who used to be on the project at 3D Realms. To those who don’t know the Duke Nukem Forever story, the game might seem like a standard first-person shooter with a few technological gimmicks and a more absurd, played-for-laughs attitude than today’s more straight-faced but equally gruff shooter games. For those who know the DNF tale, this is the king returned as if through a time machine, a playable time capsule of one of gaming’s wrongest icons. P.S. The trailer being shown behind closed doors for the game includes strippers and a three breasted giant monster. Of the latter, Duke says, “Hell, I’d still hit it.” Score: +1 (1 vote cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...
