Through the grass, I see a North Vietnamese troop before me. I dart ahead and, poof, he’s gone. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam is a downloaded expansion pack for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. The game keeps the same classes and gameplay as Battlefield: Bad Company 2. If you are familiar with that title, there are no surprises. (You’ll need to be familiar with it as this DLC title requires the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 game disc.) The Vietnam expansion pack is the U.S. Marines versus the North Vietnamese army. It includes 4 new maps and brings 15 new Vietnam-era weapons like the M79, 6 new vehicles like the UH-1 Huey, forty-nine different 1960s-era tunes (Fortunate Son!) and new Achievements and Trophies. The map that EA was demoing for the Tokyo Game Show was called “Phu Bai Valley”. In Conquest Mode, it is familiar territory for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 players. But the new Vietnam vibe really offers a new experience. It feels far more than simply a fresh coat of paint. It feels fresh. Phu Bai Valley is another well-designed multiplayer map from EA Dice, the developer behind the series. The map is quite large and expansive, but still feels intimate. I never felt like I was going to hit a wall, and I never felt like I was playing alone. There are multi-player games that can handle many more players, but EA Dice does an excellent job of not only balancing out the map, but making it flow in a logical progression and opening up the sky for intense combat. Growing up watching Vietnam film after Vietnam film during the 1980s, I always noticed how everything feels muddy and damp. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam’s Phu Bai Valley feels muddy and damp. That is a good thing. A multiplatform release of Bad Company 2 Vietnam is slated for later this year. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...

Ever wanted to know where the most people get owned on a map or where the most action is happening in Call of Duty? Or maybe what guns are used the most, which ones have the highest average kill / death ratio (KDR), or maybe, just maybe, how many total kills you’ve gotten on a gun? Well, we can’t promise you all of these things, but, it is definitely confirmed that the feature “Combat Record†will appear in Call of Duty: Black ops and it’s going to have a lot of awesome stuff packed into it, maybe even more then the stuff we listed. We’ve played the Call of Duty games over the years and noticed they stuck with the same formula, adding slight features to each game as an incentive to buy. That seems to be thrown out of the window with Call of Duty: Black Ops and all of the features that are being announced, Combat Record being among them. The “Combat Record†will debut in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops game and it will seemingly detail everything you have done and display them for you to view in lovely pie, bar and all the other types of wonderful graphs. Speculation here, but, we believe that it will be possible for others to view certain stats of yours as well. For an example of heat graphs and a couple of other community statistics, check out Team Fortress 2 More...

Those of you out there who love all things Japan, but find it difficult to get your hands on titles sold exclusively in the land of the rising sun, will be happy to know that those previously tough-to-get titles will soon be coming to a PS3 near you. Sony has just announced that they will be unveiling a new ‘imports’ section for the PlayStation Store, come this Tuesday, September 21st. This new section of the store will feature import games from Japan, and potentially other regions, in their “pureâ€, unchanged format, which means straight-up Japanese voice overs, text, and gameplay. The first two titles to make their debut in this section of the store will be and (both PSOne classics developed by MonkeyPaw Games), amongst other “easy to navigate†Japanese titles, and will run gamers a mere $5.99 each. It can really be a difficult task to find a good import games store, but now all we have to do is flip a switch and hit some buttons; who would’ve seen this coming? Treyarch’s Mark Lamia has said there’s “definitely†some controversial topics covered in Call of Duty: Black Ops, considering it takes place during the Cold War era. “We’re not doing a historical recreation†Speaking with MCV, Lamia said the game is still fiction though, and weaves itself in and out of different historical time periods, not just one set timeline, and plenty of variety. “We cover the Cold War era and there are definitely some controversial topics in there,†he said. “But I look at it as creating a piece of entertainment and we are strong advocates of creative freedom. “Our game is entirely fiction-based – we’re not doing a historical recreation. We do our research and create that setting so you can immerse yourself in it but that’s just a backdrop for our narrative.†Lamia feels the controversy surrounding shooters based around military combat is “unfairâ€, like with Modern Warfare 2 and recently with Medal of Honor, because the games touch upon occurrences no differently than books or film. Singling out games is unfair “Our story weaves itself around all kinds of controversial historical periods, but there have been many books and movies that do that, so to single out games in that way seems unfair,†he explained. “We’ve delved pretty deeply into the histories of different conflicts that have occurred. Because this game is about black ops, it’s about what occurred behind the Cold War. “So while our story weaves its way through the South East Asia and Vietnam conflict, it’s not a game about the Vietnam War. You just happen to be there when certain things occur during that period.†Call of Duty: Black Ops is out November 9 for PC, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360. It’s being reported Avalanche Studios is involved in the Mad Max game God of War II’s Cory Barlog’s been working on since 2008. While Avalanche would not confirm anything specific, the studio told Eurogamer Barlog is indeed “working here with us in Stockholm as you have probably read on his Twitter recently.†“That is out of my hands I’m afraid and in the hands of our publishers,†Avalanches’s Christofer Sundberg replied when asked when we can here more about the goings on at the studio. “Sometime early next year most likely for two of them and later next year for the last one.†Sounds like Avalanche is working on three games, then. According to various tweets by Barlog, the game is coming out of preproduction, and the game will be released near the film’s debut. The film, Mad Max 4: Fury Road is slated for 2012 and stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. The game itself was confirmed to Newsweek by director George Miller back in 2008, who called it a “hybrid game†and also stated he delayed starting on the film in order to “do a really good gameâ€. So, expect the game sometime in 2012, we reckon. There’s no word on platforms yet either. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...

Epic Games has released the video demonstration of Bulletstorm which was shown at TGS, and it’s narrated by the game’s producer Tanya Jessen. In it, you get to see a weapon called the Bouncer, which is basically a portable cannonball gun. It was one of the first weapons People Can Fly came up with when creating the game. The video also shows enemies getting killed with an elevator, and mowed down with the chain gun. It’s rather awesome, and we’re getting really excited for this. Once again, the time has come for you to take your lowly cowpoke in Red Dead Redemption‘s multiplayer and turn him into the king of the range. This weekend, the game’s online component will reward players with twice the standard rate of XP in celebration of the new “Liars and Cheats” DLC pack. The thing is, if we’re supposed to be celebrating liars and cheats, how certain can we be that we’re actually going to earn double XP?
