  1. History and Parts Pack is the first DLC available on PS4 for the award-winning multi-genre space exploration game, Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition! In addition to 10 exciting missions inspired by humankind’s own space exploration, this content-filled console-optimized DLC includes more than 60 new parts and an astronaut suit inspired by the historic Space Race! These parts will not only allow you to be creative and build all sorts of imaginative spacecrafts, but also replicate the iconic Saturn V and Soyuz Rockets! Below is a basic guideline of the parts you will need to build these rockets. The rest will depend on you (can’t make things too easy). Saturn V The Saturn V was an American human-rated expendable rocket used by NASA between 1967 and 1973. Developed to support the Apollo program for human exploration of the Moon, the three-staged rocket remains the tallest, heaviest, and most powerful rocket ever brought to operational status, and holds records for the heaviest payload launched and largest payload capacity to low Earth orbit, which included the third stage and unburned propellant needed to send the Apollo Command/Service Module and Lunar Module to the Moon. To date, the Saturn V remains the only launch vehicle to carry humans beyond low Earth orbit. In order to build a Saturn V replica, you’ll need these parts, and a few more, like decouplers and probably a heat shield, just to name a few: Mk1-3 Command Module SM-6A Service Module (DLC exclusive) Launch Escape System SM-25 Service Module (DLC exclusive) RE-J10 “Wolfhound” Liquid Fuel Engine (DLC exclusive) Munar Excursion Module (M.E.M.) (DLC exclusive) Kerbodyne S3-14400 Tank RE-I2 “Skiff”Liquid Fuel Engine (DLC exclusive) Kerbodyne S3-S4 Adapter Tank (DLC exclusive) Kerbodyne S4-256 Tank (DLC exclusive) Kerbodyne S4-512 Tank (DLC exclusive) Kerbodyne Engine Cluster Adapter Tank (DLC exclusive) Kerbodyne KE-1 “Mastodon” Liquid Fuel Engine (DLC exclusive) Soyuz The Soyuz is a family of expendable launch systems designed in the 1960s. Originally commissioned as part of the Soviet human spaceflight program, the Soyuz is the most frequently used launch vehicle in the world with over 1700 flights since its debut in 1966. Since the retirement of the Space Shuttle in 2011, all human spaceflights to and from the International Space Station have been carried out using Soyuz. In order to build a Soyuz rocket replica, you’ll need these parts, and a few more! Don’t forget your decouplers and a parachute! KV1 “Onion” Reentry Module (DLC exclusive) KV2 “Pea” Reentry Module (DLC exclusive) KV3 “Pomegranate” Reentry Module (DLC exclusive) Size 1.5 Decoupler (DLC exclusive) FL-TX440 Fuel Tank (DLC exclusive) FL-TX1800 Fuel Tank (DLC exclusive) FL-A151L Fuel Tank Adapter (DLC exclusive) FL- T800 Fuel Tank FL-C1000 Fuel Tank (DLC exclusive) RK-7 “Kodiak” Liquid Fuel Engine (DLC exclusive) RV-1 “Cub” Vernier Engine (DLC exclusive) If you need more help building these historic rockets, be sure to check out some of the tutorials available on the KSP Forums and YouTube. The History and Parts Pack DLC is available now and we’re excited to see all of you PS4 astronauts exploring the vastness of space! Happy launchings! View the full article
  2. Hey everyone, Tanya Watson here. I’m the CEO and co-founder of Squanch Games, a weirdo comedy game studio started by myself and the co-creator of Rick and Morty, Justin Roiland. Trover is a crazy comedy adventure in the vision of Justin, through and through. He started a game studio because he’s been a lifelong gamer, and when he had the opportunity to use a VR headset, it opened up his eyes as to how he could bring storytelling to video games. So, we built Squanch from the ground up to support his method of comedy and storytelling, and it’s been one helluva ride. We’ve been keeping our heads down for the last two years working on Trover Saves the Universe — our first full-length game — but we’re now to the point where we can really start talking about the game because it’s almost done! We even have a release date… Trover Saves the Universe will debut exclusively on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR on May 31 with pre-orders open now at physical and digital retailers including PS Store where PS Plus members will get an extra 10% off. Trover Saves the Universe is a story about you — your dogs have been dognapped by a beaked lunatic named Glorkon who stuffed them into his eye holes. Your cute little pup pup boys give him insane power that will allow him to destroy the universe, unless you can stop him. You can even choose how to play — on TV or PlayStation VR. Many people have asked me what it’s been like to work with Justin, to create this studio, and make this bizarre adventure. There’s not nearly enough room to go over all of that here, but, I love being a part of making funny and unique games. If you want more insights into how we did it for this one, you should tune into our Comedy in Games panel at PAX East, hosted by Justin Roiland, on March 28 at 4:30pm ET. It’ll be in the Main Theater as well as streaming on twitch.tv. He’s going to be talking a lot more about how he’s brought his own perspective to comedy in video games, and will be asking a number of hilarious creators to chime in as well. Until then, stay Squanchy! View the full article
  3. Path of Exile launches on PS4 today! With many new exiles set to wash up on the shores of Wraeclast, we want to make sure you’re well prepared. Life in Wraeclast is unforgiving at the best of times, especially for new players, so we’ve compiled 10 simple tips to help you start off on the right foot. Decide on a playstyle Path of Exile has hundreds of skill gems and, due to its sprawling passive skill tree and deep item customization, thousands of potential playstyles. It can be tempting to try to do a little bit of everything, but you may end up being good at nothing. Picking a specific playstyle you want to use, such as a fire spellcaster or bow-wielding ranger, and sticking with it is far more effective than spreading yourself thin. Support your Skills Support Gems can drastically alter a skill’s performance. Not dealing enough damage with Ground Slam? Try using the Brutality Support to increase your physical damage. Ice Shot not hitting enough monsters? Lesser Multiple Projectiles Support will fix that by turning your single projectile into three to decimate a crowd. Make sure that the skills you are using are properly supported. Don’t Neglect Your Life Killing things is fun, but dying isn’t. Make sure you have enough life to survive a few big hits. The passive tree is filled with life modifiers, but they won’t do much if your items don’t also supply life. So keep an eye out for things that keep you alive, and make use of them! Resistances are Amazing Got a lot of life but still keep dying? Check your Elemental Resistances in the character panel! You can visit your character panel by pressing on the touchpad to go to your inventory and then navigating to your character list from there. Elemental damage can be lethal if you don’t have enough elemental resistances. Luckily, resistances are plentiful on items and can even be temporarily supplemented with auras and flasks! Cold Resistance is particularly useful in Act 1, and Lightning in Acts 2 and 3. Upgrade your Flasks As your character grows stronger and tougher, your life flasks will refill proportionally less and less of your life. Keep an eye out for better life flasks as you slay monsters, as a well-timed flask use can be a literal life-saver. Uniques Aren’t Always an Upgrade It’s exciting when you see that orange flash of a Unique item dropping, but remember that Unique items are often very specialized, and can take your build to the next level, but it’s no good equipping a Unique bow on your mace character. Don’t fret, because… Trade Unwanted Items The Trade Board will let you sell items you don’t want to other players. You can find it by pressing “Options” and going to “Trade Board.” Consider using it if you’re looking for an upgrade or have an item you just can’t use. Use Your Stash Your stash comes with four tabs by default and is shared by all characters on the same account. You can stash items you want to use later, or even on a different character entirely, and it’ll still be there when you check it in the future. Many players save gear for their other characters in their stash. If you run out of space, it’s possible to purchase more in the store. Some even come with extra features to make organising your wares even easier. Ascend! Special Trials are hidden throughout the campaign that unlock access to the Lord’s Labyrinth — a difficult, ever-changing dungeon. It’s not easy, but completing the Lord’s Labyrinth is worthwhile, as it unlocks access to your Ascendancy classes. Ascendancies come with very powerful role-defining perks. There are three Ascendency classes available for all asses, save one. The seventh class only has access to one Ascendency, while simultaneously having access to them all. You’ll just have to wait and see what we mean… Don’t Get Discouraged Path of Exile has a steep learning curve, but nearly bottomless depths. If you feel like you’re getting stuck, ask for help or check online for tips (like these!). Or even try starting a new character! You’d be surprised how much farther you get on a second character with the lessons learned on your first. We’re so glad you’re joining us on this journey and we’re looking forward to playing with you! View the full article

  5. Today, we are thrilled to announce that our upcoming PlayStation VR exclusive, Blood & Truth, launches on 28th May 2019. It’s an all-action first-person shooter that plays out amidst the grit and glamour of London’s criminal underworld, featuring outrageous set pieces, non-stop action and cutting-edge tech that gets the very best out of your PS VR headset. The Origins of Blood & Truth We were one of the first teams at SIE Worldwide Studios to get our hands on PlayStation VR and we were proud to deliver one of its standout launch titles. As you may remember, PlayStation VR Worlds was a collection of diverse, distinct experiences, ranging from deep-sea exploration in Ocean’s Descent, to an abstract future sport in Dangerball. But listening to community feedback, it was clear that the London Heist experience was the overwhelming fan favourite. People absolutely loved being the star of their own gangster movie – from the moment Mickie sat down in front of you and snarled “What you lookin’ at?” you were totally immersed in London’s criminal underworld. PS VR gave us the opportunity to explore something that traditional video games had struggled to do. You weren’t just watching the action unfold, you were being thrust into the very heart of it – and that felt like a thrilling paradigm shift for both creators and players alike. So with our next project, we were determined to not just replicate this laser focus on immersion and interactivity, but to push it to the next level. And what better playground to flex our muscles in than with a return to London’s criminal underbelly? Becoming an Action Hero Our goal with Blood & Truth was to take what we learned on London Heist and use that experience to create the ultimate PS VR blockbuster – one where the player could truly live out their wildest action hero fantasies in a full-length first-person shooter. Blood & Truth pushes you through a rollercoaster ride of a story line, set against iconic London locations. You’ll be dual-wielding automatic pistols while leaping from exploding buildings, exchanging gunfire from the back of an armoured vehicle, battling through hordes of enemies on daring rescue missions, and chasing down targets through the grimy back-streets of London. To ensure we nailed that all-action summer blockbuster feel, we worked with Hollywood producer/director Rick Porras (whose credits include Lord of the Rings, Contact and Forrest Gump) on our mo-cap shoots, alongside a great cast of actors including Colin Salmon (Mortal Engines, London Has Fallen, Resident Evil). Be at the Center of the Action We’ve also taken the level of interactivity and action beyond anything we’ve done before. Whereas in the London Heist your character fired from a fixed position, in Blood & Truth, you can move between cover to get a better angle on enemies, and interact with your environment to discover new weapons, ammo, intel or collectables. We’ve also implemented an on-body inventory giving you easy access to your guns, ammo and tools. This means you can glance down to your hips to see a pair of revolvers, then look to your shoulders to see a combat shotgun and an assault rifle. Changing weapons is as simple and intuitive as reaching to the holster and grabbing it. And we’re particularly proud of the work our audio team has done on Blood & Truth. We wanted a distinctive style to our music, reflecting both the action movie genre we’re inspired by, and the contemporary sound of London. We’ve worked with both talented grime artists and a full 90-piece orchestra and the results are spectacular – look out for more on the game’s music soon. Pre-order Incentives Mark your calendar for 28th May and prepare to be the ultimate action hero – Blood & Truth is coming. 6. When our studio ‘No Code’ was founded, I had one particular project in mind; Observation. Originally pitched as “2001, only you play as HAL”, it was the main drive to setting up the studio and building the team we have now. We’re very excited – four years and two games later – to announce that Observation debuts on PlayStation 4 on May 21, 2019! In the game, players take on the role of SAM (“Systems Administration & Maintenance”), an artificial intelligence system installed on the Low Orbit Space Station “Observation”, just a few years from now, in 2026. On beginning this adventure, a mysterious event has caused the station to lose power and forced SAM to reboot. With most of his systems offline, SAM must work with the only crew member he can find, Dr Emma Fisher, and attempt to restore his systems and discover the fate of the station and its crew. We describe Observation as a narrative thriller; a sci-fi adventure game that is unique in its presentation and point of view, and gives players a new way to interact, view and take part in the story. The game is played visually from the perspective of SAM’s networked CCTV-style cameras around the station, as well as the various systems and connections he has, to fulfil his role as the station AI. Players use these systems to solve puzzles, navigate environments, uncover the story and assist Emma in finding out the true nature of the mission, the station, and himself. It’s a unique setup and allows the player to really put themselves in the shoes of an assistant AI. One of the key pillars of the game was the player’s presence in the story. SAM, following this initial black out, has become self-aware. You aren’t sure how or why, but the very fact that a human player is now controlling SAM’s actions has an impact. Curiosity, exploration, even making mistakes – these are traits that AI should not exhibit, but the player’s actions add that human element; they are SAM’s self-awareness. Another pillar in development was building a realistic space for the story to take place in. The setting and presentation, based on contemporary space technology and ‘science-fact’, gives us opportunity to showcase our attention to detail, building a lived-in world for the crew, and immersive and believable technology for players to interact with, complete with the fuzziness of stripped back and almost industrial user interfaces. We’re delighted to be launching Observation on PlayStation 4 this May. It represents years of exceptionally hard work by our small but dedicated and passionate team of ex-AAA veterans and new developers alike. We can’t wait for you to play! View the full article
  7. Hello, PlayStation Nation! You just saw us on today’s episode of State of Play, where we unveiled ReadySet Heroes, our new PlayStation 4 game! But we have a lot more to share with you – like our first official trailer! But first, let us introduce ourselves… We’re Robot Entertainment, the studio behind the Orcs Must Die! series. We’ve been hard at work creating our new PlayStation console timed exclusive: ReadySet Heroes. By tapping into the classic couch multiplayer, we have created a high energy, pick-up and play adventure that blends single player and team play into one 10-minute zero-to-hero experience. The dungeons you’ll crawl in the world of ReadySet Heroes were created long ago, when the world was overtaken by chaos and a desperate plea was made to the gods to create order. The gods fashioned a magical realm filled with trials designed to turn aspiring warriors into mighty heroes. Under the protection of these heroes, the kingdoms grew and flourished, but the forces of evil can never truly be defeated, and so the trials remain! This is where your adventure begins, as an aspiring warrior, you start with nothing but a wooden sword and a promise to defeat enemy mobs, solve puzzles and navigate deadly traps. Do it quickly, as the other team is progressing through their own dungeon. Scavenge for stronger armor, more powerful weapons and spells to gain new abilities to beat the fiercest of foes (or friends). You’ll journey from castles full of gold to constantly erupting volcanic caves and graveyards haunted by fallen heroes. Your ultimate goal… race other players to the bottom of the dungeon to defeat the boss at the end of the crawl. Then you or you and a teammate will battle against other friends or foes in challenges from racing snails to an all-out arena battle to determine the true champions. ReadySet Heroes was created to be a short session game, meant to bring all ages together. To encourage people coming together, our game does not require PlayStation Plus to play online! This game can be played with up to four players in free-for-all or two-player team matches, online and in four-player split screen. To see more, enjoy our trailer above. View the full article
  8. We’ve always said that Days Gone is a narrative driven, open-world action game. We emphasized narrative driven because it’s a big game with a big story. The last time I beat the game, focusing only on the main storylines, it took me a little over thirty hours to complete. And I can tell you, it is quite an emotional journey. Over the past couple of years, we’ve talked a little about who Deacon St. John is and why we care about his story. It’s a story about loss and regret. In the 2016 launch trailer Deacon remembers his wife Sarah, the only woman he would ever love. Then, earlier this year, in the “Wedding” trailer we see that Deacon won’t let go of the past and will risk his life even for a worn photo of his wife. It’s a story about brotherhood. In 2016, the launch trailer shows Deacon’s friend Boozer is by his side as they fight to survive a dangerous world. In the “Wedding” trailer we see how far back their friendship goes as Boozer was the only person to attend. It’s a story about fighting for survival. This is the Days Gone story everyone is probably most familiar with. The launch trailer had image after image of the devastated world. The 2016 Horde demo showed Deacon fighting to survive against overwhelming odds. The 2017 demos showed the overwhelming dangers of the open world. The “Wedding” trailer showed who Deacon was before the world ended, and the man he’s become in order to survive the now harsh and brutal world. Almost every demo since launch has emphasized that everything in the world is trying to kill you. Freakers, infected animals, marauders, Rippers, Hordes. The world comes for you. And these are all important storylines in Days Gone. Deacon’s feelings of loss and regret are explored in a storyline called “I Remember,” where, through playable flashbacks, we learn about Deacon and Sarah’s relationship. The bond and brotherhood he feels for his friend Boozer are explored in a storyline called “He’s My Brother.” Another half dozen storylines explore the brutality of the world and Deacon’s role in it as bounty hunter and mercenary. But the overarching story in Days Gone offers so much more. In the new Days Gone story trailer you’ll see that the above storylines about Sarah, Boozer and Deacon’s fight for survival are still front and center. But, while trying to avoid spoilers, we wanted to draw back the curtain to reveal some of the other themes and storylines that define who Deacon St. John is. We’ve introduced Mark Copeland before – in the 2017 demo, he’s the survivor encampment leader who had sent Deacon’s friend Manny, the camp mechanic, out on a supply run. The new Story Trailer gives us a sense of who Cope is and the desperation that drives his mercenary relationship with Deacon. We meet several new characters. Iron Mike, who says of Deacon, “I know what kind of man he is. Has he done any worse than you?” An encampment leader we haven’t met before, Iron Mike represents a way of looking at survival in this world that is very different from Copeland’s or the others. Members of his camp, Rikki Patil and Addison Walker are two strong voices for rebuilding and hope. As the game progresses, we see that Deacon isn’t just a mercenary for hire – he is a protector of the weak. NERO and their black choppers are introduced and we get a hint of their storyline “Finding NERO,” where you learn more about the mysterious organization, their technology, and the back story of behind so much of what you see in the world – the mass graves, NERO checkpoints, abandoned refugee camps, death trains. Finally, we see a bit more of the cult Rest In Peace, who are fully explored in a storyline called “Ripped Apart.” Rippers represent more than just a way to add more danger and brutality to the world, they allow us to explore the darker side of humanity that can be driven by blind obedience and obsession. All of this represents less than half the storylines and half the main cast. We haven’t talked about things like the end game storyline, “Horde Killer,” where you, the player, are transformed right alongside Deacon, from someone who has to run for their life when facing a Horde, into a Freak killing expert who can seek out and destroy the 40 Hordes that live in and terrorize the open world. Like I said, Days Gone is a narrative driven game with a big story. But the amount of story, its length, the number of cut scenes… none of that is as important as the emotional impact of the journey. If you don’t care about Deacon and his search for hope, you’re not going to stick around to see what happens. So in the end, it all comes back to our three main characters: Deacon, Boozer and Sarah. Whatever you think is going to happen? We hope you’ll be surprised. Be there on April 26th when Days Gone launches, and see if you can survive long enough to find out for yourself. 9. Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted is a collection of VR experiences based on the original Five Nights at Freddy’s games, but it includes several new experiences as well. Some may think this is just a port of the original game – it’s far from it. For the first time, characters and situations from the entire Five Nights at Freddy’s series can be experienced in VR. Some games that seem familiar may surprise you in new terrifying ways. PS VR is a perfect medium for the series. When playing a game on a handheld device or your PC monitor, you can still feel a sense of protection. You know nothing bad is going to happen. Nothing is really going to sneak up on you. But in VR, you feel like you are in the pizzeria surrounded by dark hallways and suspicious vents. It feels like things could jump out at any moment. Eventually, you’ll come face to face with Freddy, Bonnie, or Chica at a real-world scale, and it is a wholly terrifying experience. This kind of immersive experience has been a fan request for years. Even going back to the first Five Nights at Freddy’s, fans have been making comments on YouTube videos about how awesome and terrifying it would be to survive a night at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza in VR. Now they can try. Unlike the PC or tablet, players will use either DualShock 4 or PS Move motion controllers to interact with the door and light controls in the offices, pick up objects in the repair games, press buttons on the video switcher, solve puzzles, and activate your flashlight. There are also new features. For the first time in a Freddy’s game you can earn collectibles that you can play with at the prize counter. Find plushies, bobbleheads, action figures and more! Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted will be available on PS VR this Spring. View the full article
  10. The Good Old Days Nostalgia helps us re-live some of the happiest moments of our lives. Playing Crash Team Racing in 1999 was that perfect place filled with happy thoughts for me. So when we started discussing the idea of developing bonus items for PlayStation players of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, the nostalgia factor immediately kicked in. A few ideas were shared, but none stuck as much as the idea of re-creating retro items for the game. Going Old School And here we are! Revealing the retro skins and karts for Crash, Coco, and Cortex. It is one thing to upscale the graphical fidelity of characters from Crash Team Racing but it is another to proactively downscale their polygon count and texture resolution to recreate the visual constraints of the late ‘90s. Gone are the fur shader and the 1024 x 1024 textures. Instead, they are purposely replaced by a faceted visual treatment with no smoothing groups and 64×64 textures. Some going as low as 32×32 pixels! Can you imagine? We’ve come a long way since 1999! Retro Characters In order to craft the retro skins, we gathered references from the original Crash Bandicoot Trilogy and the original CTR to define the level of details we wanted to achieve. We decided to lean into the models in the original CTR’s character selection screen since they provided a little more personality than the racing models, and we felt they would translate well to the modern-day version of the game. Once each reference sheet was created, the artists jumped right in and worked their old school magic to create the retro models. Then, once the models were finalized, we validated they would react appropriately with their updated animation rig from their next-gen counterpart. A big priority was making sure they retained their charm from back in the day. Authenticity We hope PS4 fans will appreciate going back in time with the bonus skins and karts. And, as also announced today, we will be providing PS4 players with a retro track in the game as well, to really drive nostalgia into high gear! We can’t wait to show that off for fans soon. I’ve talked about our approach to the retro content, but really, the same thing can be said about gameplay. Although we’ve modernized the experience quite a bit by introducing a brand-new level of visual fidelity in world building and character animation in CTR Nitro-Fueled, we’ve approached this remaster with an old school mentality. We spent a great deal of time polishing the racing experience for the nostalgic fans. To all the Crash Team Racing fans out there, I hope you will agree. View the full article
  11. Hello, everyone! We’re excited to be able to tell you more about No Man’s Sky: Beyond, a major free update coming in Summer 2019 and the next big chapter in our journey. Beyond is the culmination of several different strands of development. We recently announced the first component, No Man’s Sky Online. A dramatically updated multiplayer experience means players will be able to explore and play together like never before. Today we’re thrilled to announce the next major component of Beyond: No Man’s Sky VR. As creators of No Man’s Sky, we are in love with everything sci-fi. Virtual reality feels like a science fiction become real, and has always seemed like a perfect fit for this futuristic game of ours. It’s completely unique to land on a world that no-one has ever seen before and to really feel as if you’re there. The team has worked so hard to make this a true VR experience rather than a port. Grab the joystick and thruster to fly your starship over an unexplored alien planet as you peer out of the cockpit at the view below. Reach into your backpack to grab your multitool, touch it to switch to terrain manipulation, and carve out intricate shapes with unprecedented control. Play in multiplayer and casually wave to your non-VR friends or fist bump your PS VR peers. No Man’s Sky VR is not a separate mode, but the entire game brought to life in virtual reality. Anything possible in No Man’s Sky, NEXT or any other update is ready and waiting as an immersive and enriched VR experience. No Man’s Sky VR, like all the parts of Beyond, will be free to existing players. By bringing full VR support, for free, to the millions of players already playing the game, No Man’s Sky will become perhaps the most-owned VR title when released. This amazes us, and is utterly humbling. The team is working so hard to live up to the expectations that creates. We are excited for that moment when millions of players will suddenly update and be able to set foot on their home planets and explore the intricate bases they have built in virtual reality for the first time. As well as Online and VR, No Man’s Sky Beyond contains a third major feature set that we’ll be talking more about when we can. This is an exciting time. Thank you so much for being with us on this most ambitious chapter of No Man’s Sky. Sean View the full article
  12. The “Past Meets Present” premise of Mortal Kombat 11 has given us an amazing chance to honor Mortal Kombat’s origins, to enjoy the game’s current moment, and to reveal the first glimpses of Mortal Kombat’s future. Not every character meets their past or present counterpart in the game’s story mode, but those who do are in for dramatic experiences. Some characters will find reason to celebrate, while others will face the consequences of tragic choices. Throughout the story mode, these interactions will give the players more insight into the characters: they’ll better understand who they are and why they fight. For the “past” versions of returning characters, every effort has been made to honor their roots. “Past” Johnny Cage is a prime example. He’s been ripped straight from the 1990s: His speech, his clothes, and his attitude all firmly reflect his origin as a cocky young Hollywood star. Distinguishing the “past” and “present” versions of each character was a matter of building on our work in Mortal Kombat X and refining it. By sharpening the “present” characterizations, the depiction of each version of the characters is brought more sharply into focus. Case in point: “present” Johnny Cage has evolved further as a concerned leader and dedicated dad. His sarcastic wit and cocky attitude may have been tempered by the wisdom that comes with experience, but he’s still the same guy who will throw a nut punch if the situation calls for it. We’re so excited to share this new adventure with Mortal Kombat fans! It’s packed with the drama, humor, and action fans have come to expect from NetherRealm Studios. This trailer reveals just the slightest bit of what’s to come. There are many more surprises awaiting fans in Mortal Kombat 11’s time-bending story! View the full article
  13. Hello again! Dom Robilliard, Creative Director from Pixelopus here with a brand new trailer for Concrete Genie. This is the first time we’ve provided a glimpse of Ash’s heartwarming story in the game. He’s a bullied kid, who despite the tough time he’s having, is determined to use the power of creativity to make the world a better place. His hometown of Denska – a once-bustling seaside town – has been polluted by a mysterious Darkness, and it’s up to Ash to paint the town back to life. Be sure to check out the trailer and stick around to the very end! You’ll notice in the trailer that Ash discovers a magical paintbrush charged with Living Paint, capable of creating fantastical living landscapes and mischievous creatures we call Genies. Each piece of art created in the game will be unique and personal to you, and you can paint on any wall in the game so each players’ version of Denska will be totally different. You’ll develop special bonds with the variety of Genies you create and in return, they will help Ash solve puzzles and gain new abilities on your quest to restore Denska. We’ve invested so much effort into making these mechanics easy and intuitive for players to express themselves. We’ve had the opportunity to demo Concrete Genie at events around the globe and have been blown away by the response to gameplay so far. Along with our new story trailer, we also have a surprise for everyone – all editions of Concrete Genie will include two PlayStation VR modes* in addition to the core PS4 game! When we began making Concrete Genie, it always felt like the Living Paint mechanics would be a great fit for an immersive, first-person painting experience. When we showed the game to some old friends, Jeff Brown and Dave Smith – they came up with an incredible idea for how to take it to a whole new level in PS VR. It was such a compelling pitch that we decided to build a team around them, right next to us in PlayStation HQ so they could create it alongside us. We are absolutely thrilled with how this part of the game has come together and you’ll be hearing more about these two modes soon. Concrete Genie will be available Fall 2019 exclusively for PlayStation 4. We look forward to sharing more in the coming months. Stay tuned! *VR modes require PlayStation®VR and two PlayStation®Move Motion Controllers. Sold separately. Please review and follow all safety guidelines for use of PlayStation®VR. PlayStation®VR is not for use by children under age 12. PlayStation®4 system, PlayStation®VR and PlayStation®Camera are required to experience VR functionality. View the full article
  14. Hi Everyone, I’m honored to finally introduce Marvel’s Iron Man VR, a game we’ve been building over the past two years with one simple (and daunting) principle: deliver the ultimate Iron Man fantasy game exclusively for PlayStation VR. What better way to announce the game than unveiling our brand-new Iron Man armor envisioned by legendary Marvel illustrator and costume designer, Adi Granov. In close collaboration with our partners and friends at Marvel Games, Adi created a new armor that, like the game, mixes a classic comic book aesthetic with an ultra-modern twist. We hope you love the Impulse Armor as much as we do. From the very first day on the project, our team in Seattle has maintained an unwavering commitment to leverage the strengths of VR while enabling players to feel like the world-famous hero. We have focused on making flying, shooting, and epic Super Hero actions feel natural and powerful on PlayStation VR. When you get your hands on the game later this year, I hope that you, like those on the team who have played early development versions of the game, take off your PS VR headset, smile, and say, “Wow… I feel like Iron Man!” I grew up reading Marvel comics, especially Iron Man. (Iron Man #290 was the first issue I ever bought.) I loved the suspense, the armor, the tinkering, and how *just within reach* it all felt. As I got older, I began gravitating more to the man behind the armor, Tony Stark, and how fun and complex his character is. Incredibly, that complexity has always been there, especially during the infamous Demon in a Bottle story, exploring a man at war with himself. This is why we’ve set our sights on not only giving the player thrilling moment-to-moment action, but also a deeply personal, and appropriately funny, narrative that puts players in Tony Stark’s armored shoes. And with our game, we wanted to tell more than just an origin story. In Marvel’s Iron Man VR the player, who plays as the genius inventor Tony Stark, confronts ghosts from his past—powerful forces who seek to ruin him and everything he stands for. By fully embracing the magic of PlayStation VR, players will come face-to-face with iconic allies and Super Villains as they jet around the globe on a heroic mission to save not only Stark Industries, but the world itself. We cannot wait to share more about how we are telling an original Iron Man story in a way that only virtual reality allows. We have so much to reveal about the game and many fun development stories to tell, but we’ll save that for another day. Today, we are excited to celebrate with you that an authentic, fully-featured Iron Man VR game is on the way! Everyone at Camouflaj, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Marvel Games are hard at work on delivering a game that is truly worthy of the Armored Avenger. Back to the Garage. Until next time! 21. One cannot mention FromSoftware without mentioning its hugely influential and infamously uncompromising action titles, Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Loved and feared in equal measure, but almost universally respected, the games have become fierce fan favorites and established a very specific set of expectations from its creators. For its next big release, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the team have made some bold changes to their celebrated formula, reimagining and completely overhauling many of their iconic design staples to create something ambitiously different. With Sekiro launching today, we thought we’d take a moment to give you a few handy day-one tips and explain what veteran From Software fans will need to keep in mind as they take on this challenging new adventure. Sculptor’s Idols The dim glow of an unkindled bonfire is the true siren song of a seasoned Souls fan – a place to take a rest, refill your supplies and set out with fresh determination. In Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, it’ll be the faint blue glow of a Sculptor’s Idol that will offer sanctuary from the harsh environment. From here you’ll be able to re-fill your inventory, stock up on healing items, unlock new skills and fast travel to other points you’ve discovered. The more you progress through the game, the more useful these will become, adding new options and abilities as you go. Freedom of Movement While Dark Souls was always a very grounded series (in the most literal sense), relying on slow but steady movement, Sekiro’s superhuman shinobi is as fleet and agile as the wind. Unrestricted by stamina limitations, you’ll be able to run, vault and dart about the world, hanging from ledges, swinging from your grappling hook and bearing down on enemies from on-high. This newfound freedom aids not only exploration but plays a key role in combat: if the toe to toe approach isn’t working for you, try running, jump and swinging to outwit your enemies. Shortcuts While it’d be lovely to have a Buddha Statue plopped by the roadside every hundred yards or so, Dark Souls fans will know better than to expect such a reliable sense of safety from the designers at FromSoft. Much like the studio’s other titles, you’ll need to work you way through the world overcoming tough encounters and opening new routes to move forward more quickly. If it seems like you’re a long way from safety, hunt around for a quicker route back — a one-way door, perhaps… Stealthy Takedowns While games like Bloodborne and Dark Souls offer the occasional opportunity to backstab an opponent, for the most, classic FromSoft titles have you facing your enemies head-on. As an agile shinobi, however, you’ll be expected to strike your enemies from the shadows: stalking the tall grass, leaping from behind a wall or dropping from secluded rooftop. Out-numbered as you’ll often be, this will often be your safest option. Groups of enemies can deal large amounts of damage and close around you quickly, so survey the area, distract and separate your enemies, and pick them off in ones and twos — otherwise death might be surprisingly swift. Helpful Acquaintances No Dark Souls adventure would be complete without bumping into a handful of lonely wanders, travelling merchants or other eccentric, itinerant sorts. In Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, this tradition is alive and well. Take the time to speak with any friendly NPCs you run across, as many will have useful information, items for sale or other helpful tidbits to offer. The new eavesdropping feature also adds a fresh dimension: listening in on the conversations of your enemies will yield not only useful story information, but occasionally clues on how to tackle certain enemies, where to find specific items or where go next. The Art of Combat Dark Souls maintained a tried-and-true formula that placed emphasis on mastering a small number of combat options across a wide range of weapons. While Sekiro’s shinobi protagonist has only his trusty sword Kusabimaru, he has a vast amount of flexibility with it. Dodging and blocking remain, but the true goal is to overpower your opponent through timing and finesse. Brute force is reckless: many combatants will use misplaced attacks to open you up for counter blows. Read their movements carefully: deflect their attacks and time your ripostes to break their posture, opening them up for deadly ‘deathblows’. Some of these moves will take practice to master — if you need to hone your skills, seek out Hanbei the Infested at the Dilapidated Temple, who’ll be willing to spare and train with you. The Healing Gourd That simple but elegant staple of Dark Souls gameplay, the Estus Flask, finds its spiritual successor aiding our hero’s travels in Sekiro. Filled with a mysterious medicinal water, this humble alembic will re-fill itself when you rest at Sculptor’s Idols and its uses can be expanded if you track down Gourd Seeds and hand them over to Emma at the Dilapidated Temple. Moreover, as you progress, unlockable skills will improve the amount of healing received from each draught. Almost indispensable in your battle with the Ashina Clan, it is not however, the only way to maintain vitality. Augment with Skills While FromSoft’s prior outings placed emphasis on scaling the power and efficacy of a fixed set of tools, Sekiro’s more focused and flexible approach to combat requires a different tact. Instead of levelling statistics, as you move through the game, you’ll have the chance to unlock a range of passive and active skills from a number of distinct skill trees. While some will increase power, most will augment existing abilities or offer new ways to approach each encounter. Combat Arts unlocked via these trees can only be equipped one at time, so ensure you spend your points on abilities that’ll best compliment your play style. A Sprawling Game World Rarely in a Souls game will you find yourself railroaded along a single narrow path, with no option but to press on or give up. Sekiro carries forward this philosophy, offering multiple directions in which to explore from the initial hub, each with different environments and unique challenges to overcome. Using the Sculptor’s Idols, you’ll be able to navigate between these as quickly as needed. If you find yourself up-against a challenging obstacle, try exploring elsewhere and developing your abilities before coming back for a second try. The Shinobi Prosthesis Off-hand weapons are nothing new in the Dark Souls universe, but Sekiro’s shinobi prothesis is so advanced and flexible, it far outstrips what we’ve come to expect. Starting off as little more than a replacement limb, as you explore, you’ll be able to enhance its function with new gadgets, from heavy melee weapons to explosive crowd-control measures and precise ranged projectiles. Take heed: this mysterious contraption has but limited uses, so be prudent in its use. New attachments turn up all over, dropped by enemies, hidden in shrines or for sale with certain merchants. Keep your eyes open and when you find a new one, return to the Sculptor at the Dilapidated Temple to install the upgrade. Some enemies require certain prosthetic fittings to overcome, so if you’re struggling with just the sword, consider what prosthetic attachments you have available. A Wealth of Secrets The FromSoft team have long sought to reward those attentive players that comb over each area with care, placing carefully hidden items and pathways just out of sight for canny explorers to find. Sekiro holds to the same philosophy, but hides more than just items and entrance-ways: careful investigation of each area will reveal multiple different avenues to approach your enemies – skirting along a building side, shimmying up a cliff or creeping beneath a building. Don’t rush through areas, there’s much to be missed by those not paying attention and many game-changing rewards to be discovered, including items, NPCs and entirely new areas. Increasing your Power Hands off that sprint button, Souls-fans, there’s no need to go gambolling back to the last place you fell to retrieve your lost plunder. While death is a significant part of Sekiro, it’s not as closely tied to levelling as in previous FromSoft titles. In order to gain new skills you’ll have to earn Skill Points, accumulated by overcoming ordinary foes. Growth in areas like vitality and strength, meanwhile, will require special items – prayer beads and memories – only dropped by far more powerful adversaries. Trade all these at the Buddha Sculptures to develop your skills and improve your efficacy in battle. Lore-driven Mechanics The Hollow, the Unkindled and those burdened with dreadful Insight amongst you will know well to what we refer to here. While we’re in no hurry to spoil anything in Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice, rest assured that over-arching systems that tie closely with both your progress as a player and the world’s ongoing narrative are deeply woven into the experience. Meeting a true death will reveal a new system which will affect not just you and your ability recover from future failures, but also the wellbeing of those around you – moreover, these will stack the more you fail. Fear not, however: it is possible to recover if you’re struggling. Speak with Emma at the Dilapidated Temple for more information. Cheating Death The Dark Souls series has made a virtue — an emboldening rite of passage — of in-game death and so it seems apt that this new outing should seek to turn this on its head. As the game’s subtitle suggests, those laid low by their adversaries can draw on a remarkable gift to rise from the grave and fight once more. Moreover, those who make good on this blessing and endure against all odds, might find that further blessings await. This isn’t quite as simple as it seems: not only is it a way to avoid the penalties of a true death, taking down further enemies after resurrection will recharge this ability, hopefully allowing you to stave off death for even longer periods. And with that, we’ll say no more. Like all FromSoft games, a core part of the experience is exploring the game world and discovering things for yourself. We hope this will have given an idea of what to expect and how to avoid some of the early pitfalls. View the full article

  23. It started with a text: “Would you be interested in working on a Bloodlines 2?” The text was from my good friend, Ka’ai Cluney, and my first thought was, “Would I?” But as we texted back and forth, something happened — an idea started to emerge, the embryonic formation of what we are announcing today: Bloodlines 2. It’s still overwhelming to think about how many stars had to align to make this happen. It’s not every day that a property gets resurrected after so many years, and there are multiple trials that need to be faced in order to even make it to the production stage. Ka’ai and I started fleshing out the world of Bloodlines 2 over a series of drinks in late 2015 — the iteration was rapid. Ka’ai had already talked Andy Kipling and Russ Nelson (the founders of Hardsuit) into setting up a pitch with Paradox after hearing that they had just acquired the World of Darkness IP. Paradox was eager to meet, and we ended up pitching the game in February 2016 at DICE. We walked out of the room confident that all parties were energized about the idea – but it was a longshot for such a small, unknown company to snag a project like this. This is one of those rare times as a dev where you’re pretty sure it’s going to take a million coin flips to come up heads for all the paperwork to be signed, but shortly after the pitch Paradox and Hardsuit Labs were making a sequel to one of the biggest cult RPGs of all time. Who is Hardsuit Labs, you might be asking? When I first started working with Hardsuit, it reminded me a lot of another small studio full of ambitious veterans and juniors: Troika Games, the developers of Bloodlines 1. Andy, Russ and Ka`ai put together a group that can only be described as a super-team of developers. Today, there are over 60 people working on Bloodlines 2 at Hardsuit Labs. And we’ve set our first major title right here in our home city of Seattle. Why bring the World of Darkness to Seattle? Seattle has always attracted pioneers, artists, and opportunists — some dreamers, some criminals, sometimes both. In the 21st century, it’s a city whose identity is constantly struggling to retain its legacy and define its future. It’s a city of artists and craftsman, but also home to some of the biggest corporations in the world. It’s a conflict between the old and new, the weird and the wealthy, and an ideal setting for Vampire: The Masquerade. Bloodlines 2 is a reflection of modern Seattle and within it we’ve built a rich mythology based on the city’s history and present, filtered through the lens of the World of Darkness. You will stalk these streets, you will meet its power players, and you will claw and charm your way into the inner circle of Kindred society. It’s been an amazing experience to return to the World of Darkness and make the true sequel to Bloodlines that you’ve all been waiting for. We could not be more excited to revive this universe after 15 years and — for the first time ever — bring Bloodlines to a PlayStation platform! Expect to hear more about the factions, clans, story and RPG systems in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 in the months to come. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will release on PlayStation 4 in 2020! View the full article

  25. How do you approach a big publisher with a pitch for a game about recreating your childhood games playing war in rural 80s Sweden? The answer is: you don’t. There would be too many risks involved with such a niche setting for a mainstream audience. When you plan to put a small team in a Swedish studio on developing an entirely self-published project however, it makes all the sense in the world. When me and Tobias (Executive Producer) pitched the game internally, we realized we would be able to build a really passionate team around the idea of creating something so close to home. While the fantasy originated some time in the late 80s — hiding underneath the covering branches of a spruce tree and taking aim at imaginary enemies with a homemade wooden rifle (made more realistic-looking by use of too many rolls of our dad’s black electrical tape) — Generation Zero was truly born during the development of theHunter: Call of the Wild. After many years of mainly creating big budget AAA titles such as Just Cause and Mad Max, Call of the Wild was an exciting new step for Avalanche. As a completely self-published title, we used the same technology and experience from our AAA history to empower a relatively small team to create the most immersive hunter simulator ever made. Play Video Play Video While working on the hunting game, we realized that we had created environments and mechanics that could easily compete with similar ones in more mainstream experiences. We had essentially created really advanced stealth action mechanics and when we toyed with the idea of twisting the players’ role from that of a hunter to being hunted, it was as if everything just came together in an instant. The forests and fields of Call of the Wild were the spitting image of the countryside where I grew up, giving me nostalgic throwbacks to my childhood games. The stealth action mechanics were perfect for a guerilla warfare setting and the animal simulation systems of Call of the Wild took on new meaning with the huge, menacing machines of Generation Zero. The machines in turn helped us tell a rarely heard story about Sweden during the cold war, the very same period where we as kids were out in the woods fighting pretend wars. The risks were all still there of course. Would an international audience accept a game set in Sweden? Would our existing fans be okay with a less fast-paced guerilla action game after having darted from explosion to explosion with grappling hook and parachute in the Just Cause games? Could a small team (peaking at around 30 people) create a mid-price range game in a relatively short time frame, which would be able to stand out in a competitive landscape of zombie survival games and battle royales? What we’ve always come back to during development was that feeling of working on a project fueled by passion. As Mark Twain allegedly stated: “Write what you know.” Featuring something so close to our hearts, and feeding on memories and nostalgia, I have always felt that we can deliver something that will feel authentic, even to people who didn’t grow up in Sweden in the 1980s. Now we are finally ready to release it to players all around the world. Though to be fair, launch is only the beginning. This is a game we will continue to pour our hearts into for a long time, and we can’t wait to keep on building it together with our players. View the full article
