Dominating in Doom has always been about moving, shooting, and moving some more. The iconic FPS series reinvented itself in 2016 by forcing players into intimate tooth and nail battles. Doom Eternal ratchets up the intensity while layering on sinfully fun traversal options, resulting in a delightful dance of improvised chaos. Doom Eternal’s new traversal options and weapon mods are initially a bit overwhelming. A tidy tutorial in the E3 build introduces options to double jump, air dash, climb walls, scorch enemies with an integrated flamethrower, and tap into tons of new alt-fire weapon features. I’ve devoured every Doom title to date, but the wealth of new features gave me pause. But when the fireballs started flying, everything clicked. Like jumping out of a speeding car – Doom’s demonic ambushes forced me to hit the ground running. The core of Doom Eternal’s gameplay still involves running, gunning, and “glory killing” demons to replenish your health. In a similar vein, the new Flame Belch flamethrower helps you earn armor shards, which you’ll need to endure this sequel’s tough foes. Even basic Imps seem more nimble and aggressive than the previous game, so be on the alert. A new Blood Punch ability further ratchets up melee, empowering you to (occasionally) splatter entire groups with a single mighty blow. Remembering to tap into these new kills is half the challenge, but the results are so cathartic that it soon becomes second nature. Doom Eternal bestows devastating additions to its beloved arsenal. The Plasma Cannon packs a punch and boasts a retro Doom aesthetic — its new alt fire also enables you to microwave foes into puddles of goo. The Super Shotgun is a close-range destroyer, but the real beauty is the Meathook that grapples you towards distant foes to facilitate point-blank carnage. A new rail gun-esque Ballista boasts a secondary fire that launches an exploding bolt to devastate flying enemies like Cacodemons. This is the most bad-ass weapon lineup in Doom history, and we haven’t even seen it all. Exotic weaponry is only fun if you’re alive to use it. Luckily, Doom Eternal’s new traversal options up the survival odds. In my demo, the double jump allowed me to mantle to better vantage points. The double dash ability helps dodge lunging foes, and quickly closing the gap for glory kills. These jumps and dashes are crucial for platforming through Hell’s obstacles, along with new wall-climbing sections. So far, Doom Eternal’s environmental traversal challenges are even more engaging and puzzly than the previous game. Mick Gordon’s aggressively energetic score never seems to stop, even when you die and the game has to reload your last checkpoint. Instead, it dynamically and seamlessly swaps to a more subdued version of whichever track is playing. This, along with plenty of other touches and techniques built into this scorching sequel, keeps the adrenaline pumping even when you’re loading up that second (or third, or eighth) attempt at an encounter. My blistering time with Doom Eternal was so fast-paced that my memory is a blur of blood, bullets, and fire. Below are some other insights I gathered while stretching to use all the new gameplay features: Use the Flame Belch to ignite crowds of enemies before finishing them off, scoring a wealth of armor pickups. The new shoulder-mounted grenade also rewards armor shards, and is a perfect on-the-fly splash damage option if you can’t swap to the Rocket Launcher. Never stop moving. Always assume a speedy demon is right behind you. In big arena battles, carve a looping “line” with lots of verticality to keep one step ahead of enemies. Use and abuse the double jump and dash to dart across the battlefield and avoid random enemy fire. Don’t give up if you’re low on health or ammo. That next kill may provide the pickups you need to survive the fight. Return to Hell and up your demon-slaying game when Doom Eternal hits PS4 November 22. View the full article

Here at Perfect World Entertainment, we’re excited to announce that we’ve teamed up with the developers at Panic Button to release Torchlight II on PlayStation 4 for the very first time on September 3! This fall, Runic Games’ classic dungeon crawler will debut at PlayStation Store for just $19.99. It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost an entire decade since Runic Games unveiled the original Torchlight game on PC. This beloved little dungeon crawler first burst onto the scene right when hack’n’slash ARPGs were at the height of popularity. Torchlight captured the hearts of gamers across the world with its charming art style, earth shattering combat, lavish loot drops and unique pet system (Who could forget that ferocious little ferret?). These signature elements were incorporated into the game’s sequel in 2012, which finally introduced a way for Torchlight fans to party up with their friends in combat. Now for the first time ever, PS4 players can experience the magic of Torchlight in a new version of Torchlight II that has been developed exclusively for consoles. Panic Button has redesigned its console user interface to help players navigate through the sprawling continent of Vilderan with ease. In addition, the team has developed a new targeting system and an intuitive control scheme for PS4 controllers that makes combat feel even more powerful. In the true spirit of Torchlight II, players can team up with their friends on PSN to wipe out hordes of monsters, complete challenges and earn new PS4 Trophies. We’re excited for PlayStation.Blog readers to be the very first to learn that we will be releasing a brand new pet, exclusively for PS4! When Torchlight II launches on September 3, PS4 players will automatically unlock the Faerie, an enchanting new pet that is brand-new to the Torchlight universe. Whether you are a longtime Torchlight fan who can’t wait to relive the glory or you’ve decided to jump into the action for the very first time, there’s no better time to play Torchlight II than when it’s released on PS4. We look forward to seeing you all this fall! View the full article

Alright friends, let’s get one thing straight: the combat in Final Fantasy VII Remake feels fantastic. There’s been a lot of chatter online since FF7R’s initial reveal from die-hard fans who are skeptical of the remake’s transition to a more action-oriented battle system. It’s good to be skeptical — it’s a big shift for one of the most revered games of all time — but I am both thrilled and relieved to report that while combat looks fast-paced and action-heavy, in practice there’s far more of that traditional turn-based DNA embedded here than you might think. In the hours following my hands-on time with the game, I found myself describing it to friends as a modernized approach to the original’s turn-based combat. Remember how much time was spent waiting for ATB gauges to fill in the original? Remake basically just gives you fun stuff to do while you’re waiting. Sure, your ATB gauges will fill up slowly on their own, but hammering enemies with standard attacks will accelerate the process. During gameplay this means more exciting combat that still feels faithful (perhaps even reverential) to the spirit of the original game. Allow me to elaborate. There’s a “standard attack” you can execute by hammering the Square button, and you can block with R1 or dodge with Circle. Sure, this all looks flashy and feels fun, but leaning on these skills isn’t going to get you through battles very quickly. The meat of the combat in Remake is Tactical Mode, which you can enter at any time by pressing X. When you go Tactical, time slows nearly to a stop and you gain access to a menu with options for Abilities, Spells, and Items. You have plenty of time to plan a course of action here — think of this more like a cinematic version of the turn-based combat from the original game. Equipping Materia to a character’s gear still grants access to various spells, and elemental weaknesses seem to play a significant part Remake’s combat. When battling the iconic Scorpion Sentinel boss, I was watching Barret’s ATB bars like a hawk since I knew he could cast Thunder — an attack the Scorpion definitely did not enjoy getting hit by. I found myself swapping between Cloud and Barret a bunch, getting up close with Cloud’s standard attacks to fill up ATB bars and slinging hard-hitting physical Abilities, then swapping to Barret to hit the boss with Thunder and keeping the party healed up with the Cure spell (and every so often tossing out a potion or ether, which also consumes one ATB gauge). Side note: Barret’s arm-mounted machine gun opens up interesting ranged combat options in this battle and in the moment-to-moment scraps against weaker foes. Another gauge I kept an eye on during this boss fight was the Stagger gauge, displayed just below the boss’s health bar. Dealing enough damage to max it out staggered the boss, stopping its assault temporarily and increasing damage from all other attacks for a short time. Sometimes one of your characters can get pinned down or otherwise restrained by an enemy, forcing you to swap to another team member to try and dish out enough damage to free your friend. This serves as a good reminder that you should swap between characters frequently, since they each have their own ATB gauges and powerful abilities to go with ‘em. And, of course, the Limit Break returns. Taking damage fills up your Limit gauge, and once that’s full your Tactical menu gains a new option: that beautiful, animated, rainbow-tinted “LIMIT BREAK” option. Let ‘em have it! A few other tidbits I noticed while playing Final Fantasy VII Remake (man, it still feels crazy to type that): The music. My goodness, the music. I heard a few tracks during my short time with Remake, each a fully orchestrated arrangement of the original’s timeless tunes. Listen to the music in the excellent intro to Square Enix’s E3 presentation, then imagine that treatment applied to some of the game’s other songs. Yeah. Speaking of the music, it swaps seamlessly and dynamically between different versions of the song as you enter and exit combat. Such a cool touch! Major QoL upgrade: You can slide down ladders by holding R2 or clicking the left analog stick. Those same controls also let you sprint as long as you’re not in combat. You can assign commands to other characters during combat by selecting them with L2 or R2 and navigating their Tactical menus. After I killed an enemy with a multi-hit ability, Cloud automatically redirected the remaining hits of his attack to another nearby foe, ensuring the attack wasn’t wasted. The Scorpion Sentinel boss fight had some really rad phase transitions — basically mini-cutscenes that played out completely seamlessly during the encounter. Even though I’ve destroyed this thing plenty of times in the past two decades, I was glued to the screen as I took it on this time. That’s it for now! But stay tuned — I’m sure we’ll have plenty more to talk about as we draw nearer to Final Fantasy VII Remake’s March 3, 2020 release date. View the full article

Our latest look at Cyberpunk 2077 continues to impress. CD Projekt Red’s next big game shaping up to be one smart, gripping action-RPG. Deus Ex fans in particular should be paying close attention. We got our first look at the gritty world of Pacifica, the southernmost district of Night City, and a hotbed of gang warfare dominated by the Voodoo Boys. CDPR played a new infiltration scenario using two distinctly different character builds, swapping back and forth to demonstrate how different abilities can radically change the experience. At times, they almost played like two entirely different games. A hacker-focused character used stealth to evade enemies, disabled cameras, and could access “backdoor” stations to gain control over local security systems. He was armed with a nanowire, which doubles as a weapon and a remote hacking apparatus; toss it at an enemy’s head to access his or her systems, or use its keen slicing edge to pop off limbs in melee combat. Meanwhile, a brute force-focused character pried open fortified doors or overpowered enemies, carrying them as a human shield. Clash with a sentry turret? Block its oncoming fire with a hapless enemy’s body, then rip off its machinegun at close range for some extra firepower. This variety is possible thanks to fluid customization that enables players to mix and match abilities to suit their play style. A CDPR spokesperson said the studio’s goal is to create “maximum freedom” in customization. One example: it’s possible to complete the entire game without killing a single human. The game’s expansive perk tree includes a slew of combat-focused skills (blades, melee, sniper rifles, shotguns, handguns) as well as other physical characteristics (athletics, assassination, cold blooded). We don’t yet know exactly how these will all interact, but it should provide a formidable foundation no matter your preferred play style. The game’s attention to detail continues to impress, and help increase immersion in the game’s sprawling world. Spoken languages are translated in real-time via your character’s built-in HUD. While exploring the Voodoo Boys’ turf, their subtitled Haitian Creole shifted seamlessly into written English, adding convincing futuristic flair. Cyberpunk 2077’s freedom of cybernetic character customization and fluid tactical approaches makes it one of the most enticing games coming to PS4 next year. CD Projekt Red’s dystopian future arrives April 16, 2020. View the full article

The first of these seasons — the Nitro Tour Grand Prix — begins on July 3; less than two weeks after the game launches on June 21. This is our way to give Crash fans everywhere even more ways to race! Grand Prix Content is not only new, but it’s also introduced by Chick and Stew We know you’ve got questions, and luckily, we’ve got some answers. Simply tune in to CTR TV through the game and listen to Chick and Stew introduce each Grand Prix, explaining all the different challenges and rewards you can win by simply participating! We’ve Got Grand Plans for the Grand Prix What is a Grand Prix in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, exactly? Finish a challenge, and you’re awarded Nitro Points (think of Nitro Points like Experience Points). Complete more challenges to continue to fill that Nitro up. When you’ve filled Nitro up to certain levels in your Nitro Gauge, rewards are earned. Examples include new characters, karts, skins, and kart customization items. You’re easily able to see your Nitro Gauge in the game, which shows your progress, the items you’ve earned along the way, as well as the ones you’re still driving toward! Just keep playing the game to complete these challenges and fill the Nitro Gauge before the end of that Grand Prix to earn every challenge reward. Challenges include top speed, power slide, reverse, and other competitive challenges, and they vary from easy to quite hard, increasingly testing your skill as the season goes on. If you reckon you’re the best Bandicoot in the racing business, it’s time to prove it: with global leaderboards for every Grand Prix Season, you can compete to be the best in the world and win special in-game reward items! Redeem Those Wumpa Coins: Head to the Pit Stop As well as completing Grand Prix challenges to earn Nitro Points, filling up the Nitro Gauge, and unlocking a specific set of rewards every season, you can also earn Wumpa Coins by participating in Grand Prix challenges too. As you learned a couple of weeks ago, as you gather these Wumpa Coins, you can redeem them in CTR Nitro-Fueled’s Pit Stop for even more items. Speaking of the Pit Stop, we’re also excited to announce that during each Grand Prix a new set of items will be introduced to it, like even more characters, kart sets, wheels, paint jobs, decals, stickers, and skins. With this, players have the ability to redeem their Wumpa Coins to play as racers that go beyond the original CTR and to find many unique ways to customize their characters and karts. Season 1: Time to Get Warped — Welcome to the Nitro Tour! Now that we’ve laid the foundation for what the Grand Prix is, let’s dive into the first Grand Prix, set to launch on July 3! It’s called the Nitro Tour Grand Prix and features a track called “Twilight Tour”, which reimagines the Ancient Egypt and Arabian Town levels from Crash Bandicoot: Warped — so look for some familiar sights and sounds as you’re racing! Season 1: Say Hello to Tawna Bandicoot and the Nitro Squad! This one has been difficult to keep as a secret for so long! We’re excited to announce that as well as an enthralling new track to perfect in the first Grand Prix, players are also able to earn Tawna the Bandicoot as a playable character. Players are able to unlock Tawna by earning Nitro Points during the first Grand Prix, and are also able to earn an amazing new Motorsport Tawna skin which lets the world know that she means business! In addition to Tawna, players will be re-introduced to Ami, Isabella, Megumi, and Liz. Together, they are now known as the Nitro Squad (formerly known as the Trophy Girls in the original CTR), and are now characters that you can race with! They can be unlocked using Wumpa Coins in the Pit Stop during the first Grand Prix. These global bandicoots hail from all over the world, and are ready to compete! There will also be new Motorsport skins for them as well, to really show off their speed and style. Season 1: More than just new Characters In addition to the new characters, you will see a bunch of other items that will be a part of the first Grand Prix, including international-themed items for players to show their national pride, new kart parts, and even the return of Le Chaux, the fan favorite kart from CTTR! In short, make sure that starting on July 3, you are beating challenges in the Nitro Tour Grand Prix to fill up your Nitro Gauge, keep earning those Wumpa Coins by playing any mode in the game, and make sure you are heading to the Pit Stop to see what’s new! Looking to the Future That’s a deep dive into the first Grand Prix season, but as teased today, this is only the beginning! We have some incredible Grand Prix seasons coming up, including one that revolves around everyone’s favorite purple dragon… (if that doesn’t excite you, I don’t know what will). Our goal with the Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Grand Prix is to make sure that the race lives on, and we’re thrilled to finally be able to talk to you about it. Make sure you start practicing when the game comes out on June 21, because the real challenge begins on July 3! View the full article

Hello everyone, Toby from the Square Enix Community Team here! The Square Enix E3 Live show has just concluded and we have now officially announced our brand-new IP, Outriders, which is being developed by People Can Fly. In case you missed the show, you can watch the Outriders Announce trailer above. Outriders will release in Summer 2020 on PlayStation 4. While the trailer will give you a small insight into what to expect from this title, you can look forward to a full reveal of the game this winter. That being said, here’s what we’re ready to share so far: Outriders is a 1 to 3 player, drop-in-drop-out co-op shooter set in an original dark and desperate sci-fi universe. We appreciate that our story, just like the signal that features in the announce trailer, is a major mystery right now, but we’ve left some clues and breadcrumbs to the lore in our social pages which will reward you with some more information before we present more details later this winter. We have tremendously enjoyed watching the growing Outriders community already start piecing elements of the story together and we’re really looking forward to seeing how much they’ll be able to uncover. People Can Fly has a vast wealth of experience with the shooter genre, and Outriders combines all those years of knowledge and passion and rolls it into their most ambitious project to date. We’ve barely shown you the tip of the iceberg so far, though, and can’t wait to show you more of this dark, brutal world, and the Outriders journey through it. Outriders will launch on PlayStation 4 Summer 2020. View the full article

Marvel’s Avengers represents a worldwide collaboration across Marvel Games, Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, Nixxes Software, and Crystal Northwest. After several years of top-secret development, the Marvel’s Avengers team is thrilled to celebrate our unveiling alongside fans and fellow True Believers. Closing out Square Enix Live E3 2019 last night, viewers worldwide got a first look at the highly anticipated Marvel’s Avengers in action. The entirely in-engine “A-Day” trailer set the tone for an original Avengers adventure that combines cinematic storytelling with single-player and co-operative gameplay. Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own Helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. We also revealed Marvel’s Avengers’ world-class cast through exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, and offered a glimpse of how the story will continue long past launch. Every new Super Hero, which will include additional hours of gameplay, as well as every new region will be delivered to players at no additional cost if you own the core game. Launch is just the beginning! We can’t wait for players around the world to begin their journey in Marvel’s Avengers. We’re thrilled to be partnering with PlayStation and will be bring some future surprises to PlayStation players at another time. For now, great news for PlayStation fans, you’ll be able to play the Beta First on PS4. Marvel’s Avengers will release for the PlayStation 4 on May 15, 2020. View the full article

Hey folks – tonight, Square Enix’s E3 2019 Live Event gave the world an up-close and personal look at Final Fantasy VII Remake. The game will also be playable starting tomorrow at Square Enix’s E3 booth. Tonight’s presentation kicks off with gorgeous recreated scenes from the original game’s iconic opening, featuring fan favorite Aerith Gainsborough and stoic mercenary Cloud Strife. During the show, producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed that the first game in this project is expected to ship on two Blu-ray discs, and will greatly expand on the story of Midgar. Kitase also pointed out that the game would serve as a perfect starting point for newcomers to the world of Final Fantasy VII. Then, the presentation shifted to a detailed walkthrough of the game’s combat mechanics, including a revamped ATB system and an all-new Tactical Mode, which slows time during battle and lets players perform actions by selecting options from a command menu. These are noteworthy details; from what we saw, it seems Remake will empower players to choose between a strategic, methodical play style (Tactical Mode) or fast-paced combat with spells and abilities executed through hot keys. The gameplay demo transitioned to an action-packed battle, where the player switched between controlling Cloud and Barret in order to take down the massive Scorpion Sentinel — an impressive re-imagining of an iconic boss battle from the original game. Scorpion Sentinel battle completed, Remake Director Tetsuya Nomura walked onto the stage and thanked fans for their patience. He then ended the Final Fantasy VII Remake presentation with a trailer showing a first glimpse of fan-favorite martial artist, Tifa Lockhart, and an announcement that the game is available to pre-order now. Final Fantasy VII Remake is coming to PS4 worldwide on March 3, 2020. Pre-order from the PS Store to receive the Cloud & Sephiroth Dynamic theme today, along with the Chocobo Chick Summon Materia DLC when the game launches. View the full article

The renowned hacker group DedSec returns when Watch Dogs: Legion comes to PlayStation 4 on March 6, 2020. In the near future, London has turned into a dystopia controlled by a corrupt private military corporation, where information is king and the citizens are all second class. It’s your mission to recruit new members to your cause and tear down the surveillance state. Virtually every character in Watch Dogs: Legion’s version of London is a playable protagonist. As you work your way through London’s open-world streets, you’ll discover that everyone you see has different attributes and skills. One passerby might have a knack for melee combat; if you recruit them as an Infiltrator, they’ll be great for getting up close and personal with the enemy. Another might be a doctor, granting your team an overall health buff; get them on the team, and you can survive even the toughest encounters. These character traits aren’t decided at random but are intrinsically tied to each character’s background. It’s this variety of stats and expertise that will drive you to recruit characters from all over London, but it’s not as simple as walking up to them and giving them a membership card. Every character in Watch Dogs Legion has their own personal life and routine. The hacker you’re pursuing may have a loved one in the hospital, or owe a tremendous debt to a loan shark. As a member of DedSec, you can hack into the hospital’s mainframe and prioritize care for your hacker’s family or take a more aggressive route and meet the hacker’s loan shark in a dark alley and send them a message with your fists. Either way, you’re having an impact on that character’s life and daily routine, and sooner or later that hacker will come to see DedSec as an ally and join your team. How you choose to get them there is completely up to you. You can assemble a crew of up to 20 DedSec members at a time, though the entire population is always there for you to recruit from. Enforcers prefer automatic rifles and sticky bombs. Hackers control their environment from afar, relying on their trusty Spider Bot to access hard-to-reach places. Infiltrators are up-close attackers with the ability to cloak themselves from view for brief periods. You can switch between characters to utilize each of these diverse classes, all while leveling up your operatives and earning additional perks and modifications to help you take down the establishment. But don’t get careless — DedSec may have become a global entity, but that doesn’t mean you’ve got unlimited resources. The world around you becomes more dangerous as you escalate conflict. Stick to melee attacks, using the completely reworked melee system, and your aggressors will do the same. The moment you pull out a gun, however, your enemies will not hesitate to return fire. If you get shot down during the mission, you can surrender or keep fighting. Choosing the former will send your character to jail, and you’ll need to play as another DedSec member to bail them out. If you choose to keep fighting, you’d better be a good shot, because a new permadeath system means that if you do down again, that operative is out for good. Choice is the crux of every action in Watch Dogs: Legion. Who you choose to recruit, how you handle your mission objectives, which areas of London you liberate first — it’s all up to you. Whether you take down your oppressors from the shadows, or meet them face to face, guns blazing, London is yours to defend. Fortunately, you’ve got an entire city’s worth of potential recruits waiting to join your team when Watch Dogs: Legion launches on March 6, 2020. Stay tuned for more on Watch Dogs: Legion, and everything else from Ubisoft at E3 2019. View the full article

On April 1 we quite cheekily announced the roguelike hack and slash game Conan Chop Chop as an April Fools’ Day joke. But surprise! The game is very real and will be released September 3! I have been waiting for this day for quite some time. The feedback we received after announcing Conan Chop Chop on April Fools’ Day was, quite simply, amazing. We knew already then that we have a gem in our hands, and I know it has been a hardship for everyone here to keep it a secret. Today I finally get to break the good news: Not only is the game real, it is very real! I will even go so far as to boldly declare that Conan Chop Chop will be the most realistic stick figure game set in the savage world of Hyboria ever. Developed by our Australian friends at Mighty Kingdom and published by us at Funcom, Conan Chop Chop is a roguelike hack-and-slash game, in which you will be tasked with thwarting the plans of the evil wizard Thoth-Amon. He plans to resurrect the even eviler wizard Xaltotun and will condemn the world to an eternity of darkness and enslavement, should he succeed. Only you can stop him, but in order to do so you must use all your cunning. All your guile. You must summon all your courage and swordsmanship. You must … Chop Chop! Bring friends! There is nothing that really beats a good old couch co-op, and Conan Chop Chop offers just that. You can play the game in 1-4 player mode, and choose between a diverse cast of heroes from the Conan universe. There is Pallantides, commander of the Black Dragons. Valeria, the adventurer. Bêlit, the pirate queen. And of course, Conan the Cimmerian Barbarian himself. The players will have different stats suited to different playstyles. Embark on quests of pure epicness! Regardless of whether or not you are on a quest to save the world, you can bank on one thing: there will be townspeople who find your task trivial. They will instead pester you with quests of their own, but on occasion they may reward you. The town and outskirt areas will also be full of people trying to sell you items, consumables, and even new perks for your hard-earned gold. Explore in every direction! Brave the shifting sands of Koth, explore the dark woods in Darkwood, move valiantly through the searing land of Hyperboria and see the icy world of Vanaheim. Conan Chop Chop lets you explore to the left, right, up and down! A skilled player may even find himself jumping, dashing, or moving diagonally, resulting in the ultimate 3D experience. Loot, loot and more loot! Master the fine art of delicately bashing your enemies’ heads in with a broom and turning them into chop suey with a bastard sword. Conan Chop Chop contains a wide variety of different weapons, trinkets and legendary items, each suited to tailor any kind of violent playstyle you can think of. Master astonishing combos! Perform the breathtaking 360° spin-attack to crack skulls all around you. Dash forward with the speed of light. Swing your sword both longways and sideways in a game that will have you gasping for air as you struggle to grasp the pure awesomeness of your fighting moves. Ruthless bosses! Finally, a game in which you get to test your skills against a giant gorilla in a cape! Before facing Thoth-Amon, you must defeat bosses such as The Giant Sand Worm of Koth and The Frost Giant of Vanaheim, all with their own set of killer moves like Lava Reflux, Tail Whip and Loogie Glob. Infinite replayability! Completely random maps and tons of weapons and abilities to try out ensure that every new game will be a whole new experience. You are bound to die more than once, but you can unlock new weapons that will be available for your next playthrough. View the full article

Hi everyone, we’re back with more news for Arizona Sunshine – The Damned DLC! We’re excited to let you know that The Damned DLC will launch for PlayStation VR on August 27. In case you can’t wait, have a first look at the gameplay trailer above. Featuring the largest Arizona Sunshine mission to date, The Damned DLC is a new standalone story in the Arizona Sunshine universe that ties into the events of the previous Dead Man DLC, which had you scrambling to launch a nuclear missile to stop the advance of the undead. In a story about the drastic measures taken and sacrifices made to try and contain the spread of the undead, you play as Liam, a survivor who not that long ago happened upon the military base at the refinery. As the pressure of the undead rises, drastic measures are being prepared and access to the base is now strictly monitored and only allowed for people that can make themselves useful. Liam strikes a deal with Emily, the base commander, to assist in a mission to restore the function of a nearby hydroelectric dam. With Arizona Sunshine – The Damned DLC, our aim was to find inspiring location that you’ll want to explore. We wanted to create a level that let us play around with unprecedented scale and verticality, and a big dam gave us a lot of opportunities for that — both inside the massive structure and out. We hope you’re not afraid of heights… See you in The Damned on August 27! View the full article

Hi everyone, Timothy Gerritsen, Studio Head Fantasy Flight Interactive here. With the release of The Lords of the Rings: Adventure Card Game planned for August 8, we wanted to give the PlayStation community a first overview of the game and initiate your journey through Middle-Earth. What is The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game? The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game is a narrative card game set in the Middle-earth of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. The game is an all-new digital card game experience inspired by the hit tabletop card game The Lord of the Rings: Card Game by Fantasy Flight Games that was released in 2011. Players put together fellowships of up to three heroes from the Free Folk to embark on adventures against the forces of Shadow as directed by Sauron. As a narrative-based game, you encounter friends and foes as you adventure across familiar locations steeped in the detailed lore of the books, but allowing you to make your own legends through the use of your game decks. What makes it different from the other card games? The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game is unique in that it focuses on solo and cooperative play (PvE) rather than the player versus player style that is so common to card games. Pick three heroes from some of the most emblematic characters of Middle-earth and build your deck around their specific abilities and powers. Each Hero has one of four spheres of influence — Leadership, Lore, Spirit, or Tactics — allowing you to play specific reinforcement cards while in-game. Choose wisely when building your deck and make the most of each of your heroes to get an edge over your opponents during the immersive campaigns. While your journeys may contain great challenges, taking advantage of your heroes and decks will earn you victory in battle. Sometimes combining the strength of multiple champions from the same Sphere of Influence to increase its power can help you overcome the swarms of enemies that you will face. You might need to rely on your heroes’ Willpower to increase your Fate Pool and trigger powerful abilities that can turn the tide of battle. There are many ways to win, you must find the deck and strategy that works for your fellowship! Every quest will require you to experiment with strategies as you confront more and more terrifying foes, ranging from Giant Spiders to fierce Trolls, even hordes of powerful Orcs! The Dark Lord will do everything in his power to prevent you from completing your journey. Watch out for his Threat Pool which can activate story specific events to make your quest more difficult. Take care not to let the Threat Pool reach its maximum… or else it will turn the Eye of Sauron directly on to you! What story arcs are explored? In The Fellowship of the Ring, there is a multi-year period after Bilbo retires to Rivendell leaving the ring with Frodo in Bag End and the journey that Frodo embarks upon. Our game is set during that timeframe. Frodo has not yet begun his epic journey. The true nature of The One Ring is not yet known, but shadows stir and the grip of Sauron is spreading, unbeknownst to the heroes and free peoples of Middle-earth. We’re setting the game into this period initially because it’s rife with potential for great adventures. There are dark stirrings all over Middle-earth, but the extent of the threat is not yet known. The Dwarves have returned to Erebor, and Bard rules in Dale after the events of The Hobbit, so there is hope amongst the free peoples, but the ever-present threat from Mordor hangs over everything. We start the game in well-known locations from the books, but our goal is to dive deeper into the lore of those places as well as to explore beyond these usual places and seek out new adventures further afield into places that are mentioned in the original books but not explored. By balancing the known with the not yet known, we hope to keep the stories fresh and exciting while being fully respectful of the tone and continuity of the original stories. As committed The Lord of the Rings fans, we strive to keep the game rooted very firmly in the world that Tolkien created. In the initial tutorial prelude campaign, you discover that Bilbo had one last adventure in him but gets himself into trouble. It’s up to your party of heroes to assist the old Hobbit as you uncover new threats coming from darkest Mirkwood. In this and the follow-up campaign, The Shadow’s Reach, you’ll meet old friends like Gloin and the Beornings as well as meet new friends. You’ll encounter an odd little creature who is familiar to fans of The Lord of the Rings, who promises to guide you through the dark forest but might be more than he seems. As you make your way through the game, you’ll strive deeper into the dark woods where you will encounter spiders, orcs, and the very beasts of the wood, discovering a dark secret that threatens all the neighboring lands. You’ll conclude the story arc of the campaigns of the core set with The Shadow’s Fall, which has you on a mission from Galadriel and Celeborn of Lothlórien to confront the growing threat from Mirkwood and leading to the area around Dol Guldur, the ‘Tower of the Necromancer’ and former seat of Sauron’s power. You’ll meet an old wizard along the way as well as new heroes and threats and a terrifying enemy or two. We also have included three new challenging Encounters that are not related to the above Campaigns. These present difficult quests for the players that go beyond the difficulty of the normal campaigns and are catered to players who desire extra challenge. The included encounters will take you to the Misty Mountains in The King of Carrion, the foothills beyond the mighty Carrock, and the ancient fortress at Gundabad. In these places you will face a variety of difficult foes, from hungry trolls, to winter wolves to tribes of orcs and ancient evils that linger from distant times. View the full article

Earth becomes a living nightmare as demons take over the planet and push humanity to the brink of extinction. Now, it’s up to players to once again become the legendary Doom Slayer and rip and tear their way through the hordes of Hell in Doom Eternal. As the hordes of Hell evolved, so too has Doom Eternal’s combat. Players barrel their way through each heart-racing encounter by mastering a deadly combination of skill, raw firepower, and fast movement. To keep obliterating your enemies, aggressive resource management is key. If you need something, charge into combat and take it from the demons. Use the all-new shoulder-mounted Flame Belch to burn demons for armor. To replenish health, use firepower to stagger a demon and move in for a brutal Glory Kill, and cut demons in half with your trusty Chainsaw to refill your ammunition. Your demon-crushing skills will be put to the test by lethal new foes like the Tyrant – a hulking class of demon whose imposing height and deadly design call back the formidable boss from the original 1993 Doom and cover star of Doom II – the Cyberdemon. Thankfully, the Slayer came prepared for the new demonic threat. Doom Eternal’s arsenal features many weapons fans have come to expect from Doom plus considerable upgrades such as the enhanced Plasma Gun (complete with a redesign inspired by its classic 1993 appearance) and the Meathook, augmenting the Super Shotgun with demon-grappling capabilities ensuring that hard-to-reach targets aren’t safe from point-blank devastation. The Slayer’s tool kit also features the shoulder-mounted Equipment Launcher and the Doom Blade, as well as offensive movement capabilities that allow him to dash midair, bulldoze walls and just plain smash his way through even the toughest battle arenas! Doom Eternal also features BattleMode – an all-new multiplayer experience developed internally by id Software. This is Doom with your friends, featuring two player-controlled demons versus one fully-loaded Slayer. It’s demon strategy versus Slayer skill in a competitive, engaging and fun best-of-five round fight to the death. Raze Hell this year when Doom Eternal launches on PlayStation 4 November 22. Leave your dignity at the door and prepare for glorious failure! The Mediatonic team and our friends at Devolver Digital are excited to announce that Fall Guys will launch as a console exclusive on PlayStation 4 early next year. Now that we’ve established that we should probably tell you what the heck Fall Guys is and why we think you’ll love it. Fall Guys is sort of a dream game for our studio that combines the slapstick-hilarity of obstacle course television shows like Takeshi’s Castle with the mass-multiplayer competitive feel of a modern battle royale game — just with more falling over things, and into things, and into each other. Because physics. Players will enter a Fall Guys match with up to 99 other competitors online in a mad dash through five uniquely selected rounds of escalating chaos until one victor remains. Each round will have a set number of competitors that can qualify to move onto the next, in the final round the successful (or just plain lucky) handful of remaining Fall Guys battle it out for the top prize. Winners are rewarded handsomely with new ways to customize their character while the others are left to wallow in embarrassment and best-spectacular-failure replays. There are dozens of possible courses and challenges that can be arranged to make a five-round match. Door Dash is a straight up race through a series of walls with multiple doors to slam into and hope your first choice allows you to crash through. Tail Tag plops a cute tail on half the competitors and the ability to snag a tail off others if you don’t have one — only those with a tail as the timer runs out move on. Fall Mountain is a frantic rush up the titular mountain where Fall Guys must dodge and weave through traps, obstacles and descending boulders on the way to the top. But it’s not always every Fall Guy for themselves, some rounds will force players to work together, even briefly, to reach a common goal together and move on. You never know what’s coming, ensuring every game will play out very differently from the last! Our team is thrilled to finally reveal Fall Guys and are excited about building a community around this ambitious game! We have lots more to share in the future — prepare for your inevitable failure in front of the whole world! View the full article

Hey, I’m Nick, Creative Director here at Thunder Lotus! It’s an honor to meet you all to announce Thunder Lotus’ new game, Spiritfarer! We love to describe Spiritfarer as a cozy management game about dying. In it, you’ll play Stella, the newly appointed ferrymaster to the deceased (a Spiritfarer!). You’ll build a boat to explore the world, then befriend and care for spirits before finally releasing them into the afterlife. In the game, you’ll farm, mine, fish, harvest, cook, and craft your way across mystical seas. Daffodil the cat is Stella’s companion and will share your responsibilities in two-player cooperative play. You’ll spend quality, relaxing time with your spirit passengers, create lasting memories, and, ultimately, learn how to say goodbye to your cherished friends. Spiritfarer is a positive take on loss. It’s a fun and loving experience, and above all a game that I never imagined would happen with me at its helm. But allow me first to rewind a bit. I’ve been pretty fortunate in my career, and by extension, in my life. Making video games is definitely not an easy path to take, but it is a fun ride if you really care about this medium. And I can’t say in words how much I care. You’ll understand then how stoked I was when, 14 years ago, amidst a cold Parisian winter, I learned that I had been hired by a Major! Videogame! Company!® across the ocean, in even colder Canada. But I didn’t really care about the weather; I was burning inside. Crafting AAA games is an adventure. It takes energy, skills, and razor-sharp focus. Whoever you are, in a team larger than a hundred people, you always end up doing only a very small portion of the project, but it has to be as perfect as it can be. I’ve always felt like it was working on a Ferrari, albeit crafting only the steering wheel. Then at some point, once your craftsman’s (or craftswoman’s) work has been on display enough, you shift to “Direction” teams, where almost all of the decisions are made. Picture several dozen people, each with their individual responsibilities guiding the game and all of the other developers. If you’re lucky, you’re working in a highly efficient war submarine, with an inspirational leader, a tightly respected chain of command, and unbreakable bonds of trust. If not, then you’re in a failing Byzantine royal court, where everyone schemes behind everyone’s back to become the next Vizier and impress the Sultan, and no one cares about the people starving in the streets. I’ve been through it all. Some truly proud moments were had. And yet, I must admit, my last years in AAA were tough. I ended up being caught in a trap of corporate persona, mixed with casual anger that stemmed from the deep feeling of unachieved endeavors. I became terribly bitter about every aspect of game making, and seriously asked myself how could it be that something so fun was so gut-wrenchingly hard to do? I had honestly almost given up on making games altogether. In addition to that, In the summer of 2017, my very old and very beloved grandmother was dying. She was 97, had lived a courageous (and sometimes nonchalant) life, but still somehow managed to crack nasty jokes and share wise life lessons. Needless to say, I wasn’t in the best place. Almost by accident, in October of the same year, an old friend of mine introduced me to Will Dubé, who had founded Thunder Lotus a few years prior. They had a base idea about a game and needed someone to own the vision and design for the project. As soon as I heard the initial idea, it became clear to me that Thunder Lotus was where I belonged. It was as if it finally made sense, as if games could really be what I always thought they had to be. And this one would be just that — a game that matters, an experience that means something and has a purpose. When your life goal is to create, you can’t help but ask yourself constantly one simple question: Why? Why am I making this? What does it achieve? How does this thing not only entertain me but elevates me as a human being? Speaking to King Louis XIV at the opening of “Tartuffe,” Molière said: “the duty of comedy is to correct men by amusing them.” Videogames are important to me. They are too, to millions of other people. We as creators have a duty to yearn for games that matter, games that have a lasting impact. Spiritfarer is a positive game about loss, friendship, empathy, and what is left behind. I sincerely hope it will entertain you, move you, and help you as much as it’s helping me. The game is coming to PS4 in 2020 — stay tuned! View the full article

PSBlog Feed: Apex Legends Season 2 Launches July 2
Commander Fury posted a topic in Playstation Blog
Get ready to bring the thunder in Apex Legends Season 2 — Battle Charge. Meet the electrifying Legend Wattson, get your hands on a new and improved Battle Pass, take on unique challenges, and much more when the new season starts on July 2. SHOCK THE SYSTEM WITH WATTSON Natalie “Wattson” Paquette is a familiar face in the Apex Games: daughter of the Games’ lead electrical engineer, she devoured every book she could on the subject, and grew into a skilled engineer herself. Eventually, she was commissioned to build the Apex Games’ Modified Containment Ring. Her father tragically died the day it was revealed, but at her lowest moment, a group of competitors invited her to return to the arena with them. They became her new family. She now fights in the arena she helped build, destroying incoming missiles, recharging shields, creating fences, and using her pylon to silence fights that get too loud. Nobody knows the arena better than Wattson, and she’s able to change the game. LIGHT A FIRE WITH THE L-STAR The L-STAR energy machine gun — a fan favorite from Titanfall 2 — is dropping into the arena starting in Season 2. This powerful energy weapon hits hard with heftier projectiles than any other machine gun, though sustained fire causes it to overheat. You’ll have to time your shots right to get the most of the L-STAR, but master that rhythm and you can take down a whole squad before the fight even starts to heat up. GET AN IMPROVED BATTLE PASS Thanks to tons of great feedback from our fans, we’re making the Season 2 Battle Pass bigger and better. Here are just some of the changes you can expect to see when the Battle Pass launches in July: Daily and Weekly Challenges A reduction in time to Battle Pass level 100 Three additional Legendary skins added to the rewards track Three entirely new content categories replacing badge and stat tracker rewards Enough Crafting Metal rewards from the full reward track to craft a Legendary item PREPARE FOR MORE You didn’t think King’s Canyon would look the same forever, did you? Keep an eye out for even more as we get closer to the launch of Season 2. JUMP INTO THE LEGENDARY HUNT NOW Season 2 is on its way, but for now you can sink your teeth into the Legendary Hunt event, live through June 18. Prove you’re the ultimate predator in a new Apex Elite queue, grab limited-time rewards, score double XP, and more. All of the below is waiting for you in the arena. Hey everyone! The moment I laid eyes on the new limited edition PS4 slim created to celebrate this year’s Days of Play promotion, I started asking around to see how I could get my hands on one. The good news is I found one and they let me take photos of it with my trusty Sony a9 + 90mm f/2.8 macro lens. The bad news is I had to give it back. Either way, I got some lovely photos of the console, which I’d love to share with you here. A few things I noticed while photographing it: The bottom half of the unit is the standard black finish you may already be familiar with, but the top half gets a striking “Steel Black” treatment — not quite a full “matte” finish but not exactly glossy either. It’s smooth to the touch, but doesn’t pick up fingerprints the way a full gloss finish would. The sacred symbols emblazoned on the top / front of the console have a gorgeous brushed metal finish, and when they catch the light juuuuust right… (you probably know the meme I want to embed here). The controller looks similar to the Steel Black DualShock 4 you may or may not already own, but the four face buttons on this one have been given a striking monochrome treatment. Classy! I really want one. But that’s enough from me. You’re here for pictures! Feast your eyes below, or click here to peruse a gallery of 4K-resolution images (some of which make for mighty fine desktop and mobile wallpapers, if I say so myself): Days of Play 2019 More Details | PlayStation Store Deals What do you think? Days Gone has been out for just over a month now, and everyone at Bend Studio is thrilled by the fan response. We’ve been watching the community share beautiful and artistic shots from photo mode, and been incredibly entertained by all the emergent sandbox moments in the video streams. Coming in June there will be new game modes to share even more unique experiences, now with a ShareFactory Days Gone theme. Survival Difficulty Mode Survival difficulty mode kicks things off today. This builds on top of the current hard mode, with many tuning changes that create a much more challenging experience surviving the Central Oregon wilderness. Not only are the enemies harder, but you can’t bypass them using Fast Travel. This mode also features an immersive HUD that increases tension by removing enemy awareness indicators and outlines. The HUD is turned off, but players can temporarily display it by activating Survival Vision. In addition to bragging rights, players will earn new bike skins and trophies that can only be acquired by playing and beating Survival difficulty. Weekly Challenges Later in June, we will begin releasing Challenges. Each week a new combat, bike, or horde challenge drops with unique rules and scoring modifiers. Doing well at challenges awards wearable patches that come with perks. Patches provide small gameplay improvements like increased health, faster stamina recharging, decreased focus cost, greater melee weapon durability, better gun accuracy from the bike, and more. Patch benefits stack and even carry back into the main game. Players also earn rank and credits to buy character skins, bike skins, and wearable rings that provide more potent gameplay perks to help players perform better at all challenges. Players can only equip two rings at a time, so they have to make tactical decisions for each challenge. Rolling reloads a portion of your ammo, vaulting regenerates some stamina, headshots increase gun accuracy, and more. Rings do not carry over to the main game. Replaying a challenge with new perks opens up increased scoring possibilities and opportunities to earn new rewards to build a better score to compete against your friends and the world via leaderboards. As you may have caught above, character skins are available in the Challenges. Players will finally be able to change Deacon’s outfit by choosing between three looks: apocalypse Deacon, flashback Deacon, and — for the ultimate in fan service — shirtless Deacon. This is in addition to ten other characters including Boozer, Rikki, Addy, Iron Mike, and more! Our first gameplay challenge, “Surrounded,” drops in late June. Players must survive an infinite horde onslaught in the town of Sherman’s Camp. They’ll be scored on how long they survive against not only the Freakers, but a clock that is constantly ticking down — killing Freakers adds more time so players can’t run and hide — they have to stay engaged in the fight to get the best score. They can also earn point multipliers by executing specific sub-challenges like environmental kills, headshots, and collecting ears while on the run. Twelve challenges over 12 weeks makes this the summer of Days Gone and the summer of fun. View the full article
