Beta ContentHow big is the Beta file? The Beta is packed with a lot of content, with the expected file size weighing in at approximately 20 GB. Download times will vary based on location, server traffic, and connection speed. Will any Campaign or Zombies content be available in the Beta? No, the Infinite Warfare Beta is specifically focused on competitive multiplayer. What maps will be included in the Infinite Warfare Beta? Frontier: Frontier is a small section of a giant space station that is in orbit around the planet Neptune. The action is funneled down a long, central corridor with side paths offering an element of strategy and a constricted lower lane for players craving chaos. Frost: A research facility set atop the icy surface of Jupiter’s moon Europa. Ample opportunities for vertical combat and rapid encounters around sleek modular elements highlight this frozen battleground. Throwback: This throwback 1950’s “Main Street, USA†locale sits on a giant, rotating, torus-shaped space station. Teamwork is essential here in order to make sure your points add up until the drone resets and the cycle starts again. What are Combat Rigs, and how do they impact competitive play? One of the biggest additions to Infinite Warfare Multiplayer is the introduction of Combat Rigs. These are combat systems, or suits, chosen and worn by the player that provide a customized suite of tactical options. The Rigs are inspired by six distinct playstyles and are swappable mid-match to help you take a different approach to the game as it unfolds. Each Combat Rig can be equipped with one Payload and one Trait. Payloads are weapons or abilities you can activate mid-match once earned, and they bring an immediate boost to your Rig. Traits are persistent passive abilities that open up strategic gameplay opportunities based on your playstyle. You can unlock three Payloads and three Traits on each Combat Rig as you progress through the game. What Rigs will be included in the Beta? When the Beta kicks off, you will be able to get your hands on three of the six different Combat Rigs that will be in the game at launch on November 4. The Beta will include the following Rigs: Warfighter: Designed for a mid-range assault-style player, equip the Warfighter rig to support the team by getting fast kills, quickly getting to an objective, and always being on the offensive. Merc: This imposing suit is equipped with payload options designed to clear enemy threats quickly and with authority. Its focus is heavy defense and suppressive fire. Synaptic: A C6 Class remote-operated droid optimized for speed and close quarters combat. What are Mission Teams? Mission Teams bring a metagame to Multiplayer in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. By completing missions while enlisted in a team, you will earn a team rank. Complete those missions with honors, and you will earn extra experience towards your rank. Each team has a unique commander who will deliver missions to you, and comment on your success or failure. Ranking up will give you rewards from that team, including calling cards, camos, emblems, unique Rig cosmetics, as well as specific prototype weapons that are only available from that team. Will I be able to experience Missions Teams in the Beta? In the Beta, players will get to experience two of the four Mission Teams, and will be able to enlist in the JTF Wolverines when they start the game. Their motto is “First in the Fight,†and this team and their commander favor aggressive combat. Also available as players progress will be the Orion Initiative, who go by the creed “Vigilance to Victory,†and bring their organized strategy to objective based missions. Will I be able to use Create-A-Class in the Beta? Yes, you’ll be able to customize your equipment loadouts across multiple classes in the Beta. I’m at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Las Vegas this weekend, where Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida took the stage moments ago to deliver the event’s keynote address and share some amazing news: details on the next Final Fantasy XIV expansion, Stormblood, due out in early summer 2017! The keynote opened with a brand-new teaser trailer (and tons of cheering) that gave everyone a glimpse of what’s to come to Square Enix’s massive MMORPG. The Warrior of Light — who seems to have once again opted to change his main job — goes toe to toe with a mysterious woman in red during an intense training session. As Yoshida revealed during the presentation, this area is actually one of the new hubs that players will visit as they venture to Ala Mhigo, the backdrop for Stormblood. As the liberation of Ala Mhigo will be taking center stage in the new storyline, it was revealed that XIIth Legion Legatus Zenos yae Galvus, ruler of the occupied Ala Mhigo, will be one of the main adversaries to be faced during your adventure. He looks pretty intense… There was a plethora of additional gameplay updates laid out during Yoshida’s presentation. Not only will the level cap be raised from 60 to 70, but the addition of multiple new jobs was also revealed! While Yoshida didn’t make any firm declarations today, he teased attendees with more news coming at the Fan Festivals in Tokyo and Europe. Yoshida also touched on the staples of Final Fantasy XIV that will be returning, including new dungeons, challenging high-level raids, alliance raids, as well as new gear. But one of the most well-received announcements was the increase to player inventory size, which was met with a deafening cheer. To close the presentation, Yoshida announced that with the launch of Stormblood, support on PS3 for Final Fantasy XIV would come to a close. At the same time, a PS3 to PS4 upgrade campaign is planned, which will allow PS3 players to seamlessly join in the battle for Ala Mhigo at launch! If you’re new to Battleborn or haven’t been keeping up with it, there’s been a lot of changes since the game launched back in May. In fact, today marks one of the biggest content drops since launch. What’s out today, you ask? In addition to a whole update stuffed with character balancing, adjustments, changes, bug fixes, all-new Spooky hero skins, and more, this pass also includes the first DLC Story Operation, the new Competitive Multiplayer mode Face-Off! The October Update begins rolling out today at 2:00 PM Pacific. DLC Story OperationJoin the Battleborn hero Attikus as he relives the third Thrall uprising that sparked a revolution within the Jennerit Empire. Play solo as any Battleborn hero or co-op with up to two buddies as you fight your way through the streets and rooftops of the Tempest slums in “Attikus and the Thrall Rebellion.†All five of the upcoming Story Operations are included in the Season Pass and Digital Deluxe editions of Battleborn. If you’re not already on-board for the DLC, each Story Op can be purchased individually for 700 Platinum at the in-game Marketplace. Fight against the enemy team and the invading Varelsi forces in this intense, multi-phase mode. Hack, slash, blast, and crush your way through Varelsi and pick up the masks they drop. Deposit the masks for points. The first team to 500 wins. Of course killing Varelsi makes them mad. Prepare for the Varelsi to get tougher and boss battles as they attempt to throw a wrench in your plans. Face-Off is free for everyone who owns Battleborn. Fall: that magical season of wearing scarves, watching scary movies, and convincing yourself that you enjoy paying money to pick apples. Well add another thing to look forward to this autumn: the all-new, pumpkin-flavored Jackbox Party Pack 3! Available October 18 on PS4. Rigs Mechanized Combat League is out this week on PlayStation VR! Before you pick up your copy and strap yourself into a Rig, though, take a look at these tips from our development team. You’ll be off to a running start and rise to the top of the Mechanized Combat League in no time. 1.) Find the Settings That Work for You Rigs Mechanized Combat League offers a comprehensive tutorial that is designed to slowly introduce you to the mechanics and controls before getting into your first match. The game also includes a VR Comfort Settings menu, which will let you choose between using Head Turning or Stick Turning, as well as toggling the dynamic Visor Mask. Lower screen brightness can also lead to a more comfortable play experience for some players. Experiment with the various options at your disposal and find the configuration you enjoy the most! 2.) Master the Power Modes All Rigs come equipped with three distinct power modes — Turbo Mode, Repair Mode, and Impact Mode, for increased movement speed, rate of self-repair, and damage output respectively. Learning to switch between these modes as the situation dictates is the key to becoming a champion. Try switching to Impact Mode in a one-to-one fight, or increase speed with Turbo Mode when you’re the ball carrier in Endzone. If you need to take a breather, switch to Repair Mode, and try and hide yourself from active combat for a short while to maximize effect. 3.) Choose the Right Rigs for the Situation It all comes down to personal preference, but make sure you have a defensive Rig (preferably with high health and stopping power), an offensive Rig (with a lot of damage output, or high rate of fire) and an extremely mobile Rig (high agility, or a Rig that can quickly maneuver). Typically the Sentinel can take a lot of damage, while the Hunter and Mirage are fast ones — with the advantage of height and maneuverability, respectively. You can also use the Tempest to hover and get a good overview of the map and the current match. 4.) Go for Glory In Single-Player, the difficulty ramps up when you go head-to-head with the better teams in your league, or when you get promoted to higher leagues. Fear not, as Rigs Mechanized Combat League offers more than one way to win — there are standard league fixtures to play through, but also Tournament fixtures which can help you earn cups during your career, and even a Top Gun trophy that is reserved for the pilot with the highest aggregated personal points. 5.) Manage your Sponsors and Fame Successfully completing trials and matches will earn you credits (V) and fame, which can be used to buy new Rigs and hire better AI pilots. Keep an eye out for top AI Pilots who come with their own Rigs to round out your team. Winning matches and finishing Trials will earn you Fame, which will draw the attention of sponsors, who can offer credits and unique pilot customization items in exchange for completing challenges. Once you begin to make a name for yourself in the Mechanized Combat League, you will amass followers who closely follow your career progress. The more followers you have, the more famous you become, which unlocks better sponsorships. Try and get enough credits to unlock Rigs early on, so you can get a sense of which style of Rig (chassis type or ability) you prefer in a given situation. 6.) Bring the Bling Once you get the right sponsors, you can unlock customizations for your pilot. You can also buy specific customization items using the credits you earned. You can try on different suits, helmets, and even visor displays. There are also multiple podium celebrations you can choose from. Try and get the right set that lets you express yourself, so when you win, all eyes are on you! 7.) Communicate with Your Team The key to winning multiplayer matches is to communicate and coordinate your actions. Remember — getting the most takedowns is less important than scoring the most points. In Endzone, make sure you know who is on defense and who is taking the ball forward, at all times. Try and make sure you call out opponent patterns and formations if you have a Rig chassis type that can get a better view. When you try and score in Powerslam, make sure to call for help if you need cover — being taken down right when you’re about to score that match-winning goal can be painful… 8.) Download the Patch There is a Day One Patch available for download that enables Private one-on-one matches and Bot Substitutions in online play. There are many feedback and usability additions in the patch, so make sure you download it as it can improve your offline experience as well. If you have a friend who also has a copy of Rigs, it might be a good idea to play a 1v1 private match to get a feel for the pace and intensity of a match with human opponents before venturing into the full 3v3 Draft mode. Explore the haunted streets of Hollywood, expand your collection of themed holiday items, and relive a chilling tale firsthand in our first PvE Brawl: Junkenstein’s Revenge! Welcome to the Overwatch Halloween Terror. Trick or TreatStarting today, all in-game Loot Boxes have been replaced with special glowing jack-o-lanterns, and they’re filled to the brim with more than 100 new cosmetic treats! As with our previous events, any Loot Box you earn or purchase from now until the event concludes will contain at least one item from our Halloween 2016 collection — including profile icons, sprays, victory poses, emotes, highlight intros, skins, and more! While the contents of each Halloween Loot Box are random, you can unlock a variety of these creepy customization options with credits in the Hero Gallery throughout the event’s duration. Once you’ve unlocked a Halloween item, it will be yours forever, which means that you can look terror-ific all year round! The collection will be crawling back into the vault on November 1, however, when the event concludes, so be sure to fire up your PS4 and dig in before it’s too late! Double-Double Toil and TroubleDuring the Halloween event, you’ll also be able to participate in Overwatch’s first-ever co-op PvE Brawl: Junkenstein’s Revenge. Team up with three other players and face off against a host of eerie enemies, including Dr. Junkenstein himself, Junkenstein’s Monster, the Reaper, a mysterious witch, and host of shambling zomnics. As told in the “Dr. Junkenstein’s Monster†comic, this terrifying tale follows Dr. Jamison Junkenstein, an inventor and scientist who was once employed by the Lord of Adlersbrunn. Junkenstein’s dream was to create artificial life, but the Lord of Adlersbrunn mocked the scientist and his creations, calling him a fool and dismissing him from service. Slighted, Junkenstein vowed to prove the lord wrong, and when a mysterious witch showed up and offered the key to perfecting his creation, Junkenstein’s Monster was born. Now Junkenstein plans his revenge against the Lord of Adlersbrunn, and only four heroes stand in the way… Players will choose from the Alchemist (Ana), the Archer (Hanzo), the Gunslinger (McCree), or the Soldier (Soldier: 76) and defend Adlersbrunn castle’s doors against Dr. Junkenstein’s onslaught. Last time, you were guiding seven delinquents loosely based on the seven deadly sins. This time, we have a whole new cast of characters, each with a unique backstory to uncover and their own motivations for their sinful ways. You’ll have to keep everyone in line, from Shinoa — the caring honor roll student who might be trying just a bit too hard — to Sui, a sarcastic and analytic mind who’ll make your life difficult if you can’t handle the bite of her words. Criminal Girls 2 continues to build on the battle system of the first game. You won’t find yourself fighting standard RPG battles when your team is full of Delinquents! As you play, you’ll have to choose your action each turn from the suggestions the girls in your party provide, instead of just telling them what you want to do. As you motivate them, they’ll learn new skills and start suggesting more… appropriate actions as they warm up to you and grow in strength. Two brand new features have been added to the battle and character customization system this time around: Coaching and SM Stats. These two systems play off of each other to really customize how your party approaches a battle. As each girl levels up through motivation, they’ll unlock new skills that you can choose for them. Once you enter into a battle, you’ll then be able to coach your team to do their best! Choosing from various responses to their performance, like scolding or praising them, will change their stats! As Lara returns to PS4, we look back at a key moment from the character’s past, as she takes her first steps towards Hollywood… Tomb Raider III: Completing the TrilogyLara’s expansion into the pop-culture consciousness continued to grow in her third year of life. Partnerships established in 1997 came to fruition in 1998 as merchandise requests continued to flood in. “Eidos as a company is very, very protective over Lara so we’re very careful with the merchandise that we choose,†said Janet Swallow, VP of Licensing in GameTap’s Tomb Raider retrospective. “We’ve had two odd requests; one of them was a racehorse owner asking whether he could call his racehorse after Lara, which we declined.†The concern being that the horse may fall at the first hurdle, a risk they didn’t want to take. “And the second one was a tulip grower in Holland,†continued Swallow. “To name one of their brands of tulips after Lara which we thought was quite nice.†She confirms the tulip deal was approved and they were grown in Amsterdam. Some top tier merchandise also made it through approvals, such a series of 9†figures from Playmates that became immediate fan favorites. Each posed Lara within intriguing dioramas, and kicked off a long partnership with the toy company. Other products included a PlayStation memory card with Lara’s torso jutting out from the console, letting her save games with style. She was also partnered up with U.K. sports drink brand Lucozade for a series of action-packed commercials, and starred in one of German band Die Ärzte’s music videos, taking it to the top of the music charts for eight weeks. March of 1998 saw the announcement that Paramount had acquired the worldwide film rights to Tomb Raider. “Tomb Raider is a high-energy, inventive and smart action-adventure project,†said Producers Lawrence Gordon and Lloyd Levin in an official release. “It’s based on the rare video game that is well-suited for film adaptation, not only because of its thematic and visual richness, but also because it’s so strongly character and story oriented.†A pair of striking teaser posters were released long before an actress was cast, asking “Who is Lara Croft?†Following the movie’s 2001 release, there would be few left who couldn’t answer that question… Previews for Tomb Raider III took place again at E3 and ECTS. This time model Nell McAndrew filled Lara’s boots for photoshoots and live appearances. Eidos also choreographed a custom stage presentation where fans could talk directly to Lara and ask her questions; her voice actress Judith Gibbins was squirreled away backstage to answer the queries. McAndrew would proceed to take Tomb Raider on tour for several months, visiting Europe, Australia, and stops all over the United Kingdom. It was at events like these (specifically E3, held in Atlanta at the time) which Producer Troy Horton recalls most fondly. In the “pre-social media days†shows had extra weight and importance. “Those are the kind of moments you realize you are working with a really fantastic team on a really amazing product. You face the customers, see people playing it and hear their feedback directly. You live in a bubble at a studio, especially a small one. Back then there was no social media, email had only come into use a year or two before.†Tomb Raider III sold massively — the best to date at the time of launch, although lifetime sales were eventually overtaken due to re-releases of the original two titles. The studio continued to invest in the future, satiating the desire for yearly Tomb Raider releases while keeping an eye on new technology and opportunities just over the horizon. 20 Years of Tomb Raider, a 360 page hardback recounting Lara Croft’s greatest moments across video games, comics, movies, and pop culture, is out on October 25. If you’re anything like me, I’m sure you’re licking your lips at the thought of challenging random dungeons, enemies, and traps in search of the best loot in Gensokyo. You’ll want to temper that enthusiasm with a touch of patience and strategy though, because despite its charming outer skin and fun story, Touhou Genso Wanderer is a roguelike worthy of the name. While setting out into randomly generated dungeons on your quest to resolve the latest incident in Gensokyo, you’ll need to take care — dying in the dungeon will result in not only the shame of death, but also the loss of all the items you’re carrying. Of course, that’s not always a bad thing, as losing your favorite weapon could just make you experiment with one of the hundreds of other unique items in Gensokyo, or force you to spend a little time crafting a new favorite in the item fusion system. The item fusion system lets you make use of the myriad items that you’ll pick up in your quests into the dungeons of Gensokyo, instead of just trashing them all. You’ll also be taking a pal into the dungeon for each adventure. With six partner characters to choose from, I’m sure you’ll be able to find a favorite no matter what your playstyle is! Hi, I’m Tom Heaton from Supermassive Games and I’m the Game Director of Tumble VR for PlayStation VR. The original Tumble was one of the first games we developed and it’s great to bring the latest instalment to VR. As before, you’ll be solving puzzles, building towers, and manipulating items. However, this time you play in a high-tech virtual world, complete with a robot drone who is out to test the intelligence levels of humanity. He has some disparaging things to say about us as a race, so can you prove him wrong? In this virtual world, you use the motion tracking capabilities of the DualShock 4 to solve problems set by the drone. Picking up and manipulating objects in VR feels incredibly lifelike and natural. You can twist, turn, throw, or place objects with pinpoint accuracy. It’s precise, smooth, and satisfying. There are more than 80 single-player levels. Some are recognizable from the PS3 version, some are brand new. They range from deceptively simple to brutally difficult, but if you get stuck there’s always something else to move on to. There’s also a brand new multiplayer mode too, with a second player able to take on the role of the drone. No headset required: you simply grab a DualShock 4 and play along via the TV. You can fire laser beams, place wind turbines, and generally do your best to disrupt the building attempts of your headset-wearing opponent! The design team has come up with a huge variety of puzzles. There are some that require balancing and others where you have to fit geometric blocks together. Other puzzles see you bending light beams around a maze, building giant towers, constructing bridges, and blowing things up. There are also levels where you have to build in a wind tunnel and even some where an earthquake goes off every fifteen seconds. The drone also makes things difficult by giving you crazy building blocks. Some are simply difficult shapes, but others are made of unhelpful materials like glass. Some even stick together or have gravity in very unusual directions. This variety makes sure that the player has always got something new and interesting to do. On top of all that, many levels feature bonus puzzles. These include special blocks hidden throughout the game which you’ll need to complete the game’s final level. The team had great fun making Tumble VR. We can’t wait to see you playing it. Top 10 Tips for Tumble VR The weight and friction of blocks is shown on the DualShock 4 when you pick them up. Think about how to use these properties and use heavy blocks to weigh other blocks down. Some awkward-shaped blocks fit together to make a combination that is much more useful. In destruction levels, it’s important to get blocks into the high-scoring zones. Look for weak points that will make the tower topple sideways. Look out for jigsaw blocks within levels — they can earn you an easy medal. If you get stuck on a particular level, look around for other easier medals in the zone. Many levels have an additional bonus level, too! Hidden blocks are essential for completing the final level and are found in levels all over the game. They can be above you, behind you, beneath you, or hidden behind things. If you are the VR player in Versus mode, going for the bonus points on offer is often the best way to victory. In Versus mode, the blaster power-up is very powerful, especially if you hit the blocks at the top of the VR player’s tower. Listen carefully to what the drone says at the start of each level. Sometimes it gives little clues about how to tackle the puzzle. Experiment and have fun. Many puzzles don’t have set solutions. It’s all about trying your own thing and seeing what works.
