  1. Hey everyone! We have a very special character joining the Street Fighter V roster today! It’s none other than the 7-Colored Bomber herself, Rainbow Mika! Having made her first and only appearance (until now) in Street Fighter Alpha 3, R. Mika has long been a fan-favorite, and we’re super stoked to bring her back after a long absence from the series. As a flamboyant young wrestler, Mika dreamed of one day becoming a star in the ring, much like her idol Zangief. Training under the strict tutelage of her coach, she traveled the world engaging in random matches with street fighters in order to spread her name and popularity. Above: R. Mika in Street Fighter Alpha 3 R. Mika’s wrestling prowess will be on full display in Street Fighter V, as she dazzles opponents with a large variety of high-flying moves. This time around, her wrestling tag-team partner Nadeshiko also assists in the fight! By calling Nadeshiko at the right time using R. Mika’s V-Trigger ability, you’ll be able to setup sneaky attacks and punishing command grab mix-ups that are sure to knock the stuffing out of your opponent. Players who enjoy close-combat guessing games and striking fear into the hearts of opponents will find R. Mika an absolute delight to play. V-Skill: Mic Performance R. Mika pulls out her trusty microphone and gives a heart-pumping monologue to the crowd. The longer the buttons are held down, the more powerful her normal and special throws become! During her monologue state, she is able to absorb one hit from the opponent and can also cancel the speech at any time by letting go of the buttons, causing her to fling the mic at the opponent. V-Trigger: Nadeshiko (3 Variations) Now this is wrestling! Depending on the direction held during the V-Trigger activation, R. Mika’s faithful tag-team partner will deliver a surprising, high flying attack at the opponent from different angles: neutral (body splash from above), hold back (dropkick from the front), hold forward (dropkick from behind). The different variations keep opponents guessing and afraid to hit buttons, perfectly setting up R. Mika’s damaging command throws. Fans lucky enough to be attending PAX Prime this weekend in Seattle will have a chance to try out R. Mika at the Capcom booth, so be sure to swing by to see how she plays! View the full article
  2. PlayStation fans worldwide have been spending their summer venturing around the Shropshire countryside, investigating the abandoned community of Yaughton Valley and the mysterious events that unfurled there. Whether you’re piecing together the mystery of Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, or considering exploring this apocalypse, we’ve created a very special gift to thank you. Starting now until September 4th, you can obtain a free Dynamic Theme for your PS4 inspired by the radio broadcasts overheard in Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. Simply visit the Station 52 Code Vault page at our official site, follow the instructions and enter the correct answer to receive your code.* For those of you that have spent some time in Yaughton Valley, you know paying attention to the finely crafted details is important to piecing together the mystery and stories in Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. So whether you’re playing for the first time, or venturing into a second playthrough, we thought we’d also share some of our favorite tips to ensure you don’t miss a thing. Speed walk outside! Hold R2 while walking around town and you’ll start to pick up the pace considerably. Lost? Keep an eye out for the numerous maps posted around Yaughton Valley. Some will provide hints to the mysteries of this story. Did you know? The DualShock 4 lightbar changes depending on the type of story detail you come across. You can ride the Witch’s Hat in the town playground! Subtitles are helpful for everyone. Simply turn them on in the options if you’re keeping track of conversations big and small. There are secret trails that you can backtrack through, but you will need to find where it all starts once you reach Little Tipworth. Take in a scenic lakeside view at one end of the Holiday Camp, where you can also catch a glimpse of the Observatory. All of the clocks (digital & analog) seem to be stuck at 6:07 PM, but why? There are familiar symbols on the front grille of a few abandoned cars. There’s a very interesting map of Yaughton Valley that you can find on the top floor of Kate and Stephen’s home. Along with The Chinese Room, we wanted to thank everyone for the continued praise of Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture’s deep story, rich environment, and amazing soundtrack (crafted by the talented Jessica Curry). It has been great to see critics and fans echo the same sentiments together. If you have yet to experience Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, or even if you’ve fully ventured to the end of the world, we highly recommend checking out our official website for an entire collection of background content to enhance your gameplay experience and piece together its mysteries. Ranging from interactive screens to explore behind-the-scenes insights from The Chinese Room… …to intriguing background pieces from one very @badastronomer theorizing on the characters and the story. Yaughton Valley awaits you. Download Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture on the PlayStation Store, and please share your thoughts with @ChineseRoom. *No purchase necessary. Supplies limited. Must be 17 and a resident of the 50 US states and DC except Arizona, Florida and New York. Void where prohibited. See full rules here. View the full article
  3. Long-time Transformers fans know that every single robot-in-disguise has a very specific personality. Grimlock, for instance, probably wouldn’t be described as “neighborly†and Sideswipe isn’t always interested in playing by the rules, but both have a fondness for combat. Optimus Prime, on the other hand, would always prefer a diplomatic solution. Platinum Games, the developer behind Transformers: Devastation, spent a lot of time trying to match each character’s personality with a complementary fighting style. Bumblebee, for example, attacks faster than any other Autobot, but he sacrifices a fair amount of power. And Wheeljack’s mechanical ingenuity translates into an attack pattern that centers on ranged weapons. Along with their individual sense of style and timing, every character also has his own set of unique moves and mechanics. So, just because you’ve mastered Optimus Prime’s combos doesn’t mean that Grimlock will be a cakewalk. Activision has also unveiled the bonuses that super fans will receive when they pre-order a copy of the game. Players who purchase or reserve Transformers: Devastation before it crash-lands on October 6th will get a DLC bundle that includes six digital goodies. So, what’s in the bundle? I’m glad you asked. Aside from the five playable Autobots, anyone who pre-orders Transformers: Devastation will get a trio of specialized character skins. So, if names like Nemesis Prime, Red Alert, and Goldfire make you giggle like an excited little kid, you may want to spend a little time on PlayStation Store. Platinum Games is also including three unique pieces of equipment, which is kind of a big deal. Like the combat system, the developer put a lot of work into creating an extraordinary library of weapons, making sure every armament is one-of-a-kind and thoroughly balanced. So, the fact that Platinum crafted these three pieces of DLC specifically for pre-order customers should make you feel very special. Here’s what’s on the table: The Dark Star Saber is a fiercely intimidating blade that radiates waves of dark energy with every swing. The Photon Disruptor is an incredibly powerful, shotgun-style weapon that has a short range but deals huge amounts of area damage. The twin Golden Hunter is a pair of blaster pistols that causes enemies to drop credits when attacked. Transformers: Devastation will hit on October 6th, but pre-orders are already available on PlayStation Store. And don’t forget to follow the Transformers on Facebook for concept art, screenshots, and video. View the full article

  6. Hello again, space people! Let’s talk Capsule Force, which is out today on PS4. But this time… let’s go over how to destroy your opponents while playing! But first, the basics: In Capsule Force, your primary objective is to ride a tram into your opponent’s base and steal the capsule before they can steal yours. Early matches might be more of a spamfest, but once you and your opponents ramp up, every death will count — you must learn the techniques and abilities of a master if you wish to lead your team to victory! Shield Pulse Your first technique to master is the Shield Pulse. Activate the shield by tapping the Circle button on your controller. In Capsule Force, shields are quick and must be timed precisely — you must be one with the shield. Shield Pulse can deflect both opposing players and projectiles. Hit the button as soon as a projectile is about to strike to deflect it back in the direction it came from! If you successfully deflect a bullet, the shield will instantly recharge (which can make for some insane bullet volleying matches). Hot Tip: Unlike firing your weapon, shielding won’t stop the tram (you can bump the opponent off of a tram with the shield)! Dash Fully charged energy beams are unblockable, but skilled players take advantage of the Dash ability! Hold down the direction you want to move, and hit R2 to execute a Dash. Dashing will allow you to phase through normal shots, energy beam shots, and energy-based environmental hazards. Be sure to watch your back! When your dash finishes there’s a brief window of vulnerability! Infinite Jumping Now that you’re a pro at dashing and shield wielding, let’s take this dance to the air! Normal players jump and double jump, but to get some epic retro-anime air battles, we wanted to add the ability for infinite jumping! Any time you shoot, dash, or shield, your double-jump resets; alternate using jumping and another action for unlimited aerial fighting! Blast Jumping One of the most challenging and useful techniques to master is the Blast Jump. Aim your gun at the ground, and fire a normal shot — once the shot explodes on the ground, Jump! Were you hurled into the air? It’s a bit tricky to pull off — make sure your fire before you jump (the key is to jump while the explosion is there). Experiment with shooting the ground at different angles to change the direction and speed at which you fly. Master all of the above techniques to become an unstoppable Capsule Force train of destruction! But before you can do that, go get Capsule Force for PS4 today! View the full article
  7. Dishonored originally released on PS3 in 2012, offering a rich new world full of interesting characters that let players pretty much play however they wanted. Example: Placing a Spring Razor trap on a rat, possessing it, and then running it into a gaggle of guards. Flawless victory (unless you’re going for a Low Chaos, non-lethal playthrough). Starting today, players can form and attempt new strategies and playstyles (or re-enact some old favorites) on PS4 with Dishonored Definitive Edition. We asked Harvey Smith and Raf Colantonio — Dishonored’s co-creative directors — for some insight on their favorite parts of Dishonored, and why they’re excited to see it on PS4. No spoilers, but what’s one of your favorite things about Dishonored? Harvey: For me, it’s probably combining Blink with stealth. Near the end of the project, we gave Blink to all players as part of the basic movement package. We found it surprising how much it transformed the experience. Players were suddenly able to move around the guard patrols, horizontally and vertically. Ghosting the game became a lot more fun. In a way, it enables “fast stealth,†which was one of original goals, after Raf and I spent some time brainstorming with Doug Church, one of our heroes. Raf: I love doing playthroughs using only one power, like Possession. That kind of self-imposed constraint makes the game more interesting. I love inhabiting fish and rats to sneak around. Why are you excited to see Dishonored on PS4? Harvey:It would have been sad to see the game fade because of the console cycle change. We love Dishonored and want people to keep playing it into the new generation. Does Dishonored Definitive Edition take advantage of any of PS4’s unique features? Harvey: We’ve utilized some PS4 features. Most notably, you’ll hear game sounds through the controller’s speaker such as the Power whispers, the sibylline voice of the Heart, and the use of the Spyglass. Raf: We’ve also enabled PS Vita Remote Play, as well as use of DualShock 4’s Touch Pad for use of the “Heart†for Corvo and “Void Gaze†for Daud. Dishonored is all about choices the player can make. Any Arkane insider protips to offer? Raf: Let’s see, this is a good one: You can jump off a high building and Possess a guard or other character on the street below, as you’re falling, and you won’t take any falling damage. Harvey: Yeah, that’s an advanced technique. Mostly, I advise people to play through multiple times, because later playthroughs – especially if you’re trying to be stealthy or nonlethal – are richer somehow, in my opinion. What else… Some people don’t realize you can steal items off the belts of characters walking around. Also, don’t forget to block in combat. Dishonored Definitive Edition includes the original game, along with all its additional content – Dunwall City Trials, The Knife of Dunwall, The Brigmore Witches and Void Walker’s Arsenal. It launches today on PlayStation 4. View the full article
  8. You know that feeling when you’re at home totally ready to jump into a game? So you look through your games library and you think to yourself man, I really want to play this action-packed, real-time game! Wait, no, actually I’m feeling this thoughtful, turn-based strategy game. What to do? Why can’t I have both? Well, we feel your pain, and we’ve worked hard to bring to you Nova-111 — a quirky, sci-fi adventure game that combines both the depth of turn-based games with the thrill of real-time action! Nova-111 puts you in control of a charming orange science rescue vessel in the aftermath of the World’s Greatest Science Experiment (gone wrong). The peaceful turn-based world has been entangled with the real-time universe, distorting space and time. Your goal is to save the 111 scientists that were lost in the vortex and restore the flow of time. Along your journey, you will battle aliens, solve puzzles, and collect upgrades like the Time-Stop module to manipulate time. The game itself starts off as a strategic turn-based adventure game, but as time gradually unravels, new enemies emerge that begin to exhibit weird real-time behaviors. The best among you will learn the tricks of the enemies, and master the unique timing and strategy in order to emerge victorious and unscathed. Use your smarts to overcome each enemy encounter in our hand-crafted world, and you will revel in the satisfying glow of conquering each challenge that the game throws at you. Nova-111 is available today on PS4, with the PS3 and PS Vita versions coming in September. Nova-111 is a cross buy game, so you’ll be able to embark on your cosmic voyage from whatever Playstation device you fancy. So if this all sounds good to you, please check it out! And I truly hope you will enjoy Nova-111 as much as we’ve enjoyed making it for y’all! View the full article
  9. Hey everyone! I’m Zack Bertok, founder of Thylacine Studios and creator of Siralim. Siralim is a deep, monster capture RPG where you can summon and customize hundreds of creatures to fight by your side. You’ll need these creatures to help you travel through randomly-generated dungeons and complete randomized quests. While doing so, you’ll find rare treasure that can be used to upgrade your castle, empower your creatures, craft powerful artifacts, learn new spells, and much more. I’m very excited to announce Siralim is launching at the end of 2015 as a cross buy game for PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. You’ll start your journey in Siralim, which happens to be your very own castle. Siralim is the central hub of the game where you’ll manage your inventory, upgrade your items, and things like that. You can also upgrade Siralim to add new rooms and entice new citizens to live in your kingdom, thereby unlocking new game features. One of the early upgrades you might consider purchasing is the blacksmith, who can craft powerful weapons and armor. You might also want to invest in the enchanter’s room, which will allow you to make those weapons and armor even more powerful. You can craft and enchant equipment to augment your creatures’ power, or to grant them new abilities. There are more than 500 different crafting materials to collect. The meat of the game takes place in randomly generated dungeons known as Realms. In each Realm, you’ll be given an optional quest known as a Duty to complete. However, your main focus should be to collect treasure and defeat your enemies. There are hundreds of different events and interesting things that can happen in each Realm, so each adventure will be a fresh experience. There are currently eight different Realm environments for you to unlock, such as the fiery Chaos Realm, the peaceful Life Realm, and the chilly Winter Realm. Each Realm environment offers unique treasure and events that you won’t find anywhere else! Battles are turn-based, similar to what you might find in early Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy games. Conversely, you’re not doing any of the fighting yourself; instead, you’ll summon creatures to fight for you! There are more than 300 unique creatures to capture and summon, and each one has its own unique abilities. You’ll find that the key to success is to form a strategic team of creatures with abilities that effectively synergize with each other. In addition, you can find spell scrolls to cast any of 100+ different spells to turn the tide of battle. When you’re tired of exploring Realms and completing Duties, you can also do battle in the arena to earn valuable prizes. Or, you might want to summon powerful bosses to fight using a type of item called a Sigil. If you defeat those bosses, you’ll earn legendary crafting materials that can be used to enhance your creatures’ weapons and armor. If you’re not looking for a fight, you might head over to the tavern and play a game that you’re sure to lose with the gambling dwarves. Of course, that’s only if you can pull yourself away from Nether Egg crafting, a process that allows you to create eggs that will someday hatch into extremely powerful, and highly customizable creatures. You will never run out of things to do. The game is meant to be playable forever, and we leverage the elements of experimentation, exploration, and the player’s own imagination to create an experience that is sure to entice anyone who is looking for a deep RPG experience. Want to play until your character is level 937? Go for it. I’d love to hear what you think about Siralim, so please leave a comment if you get a chance! And make sure to keep an eye on Playstation Store toward the end of 2015 for the game’s release! View the full article
  10. You’ve all been patiently waiting for the title that changes the landscape of video games, and thankfully that wait is over… I am Bread has arrived today on PS4! PlayStation Plus subscribers can pick it up at a 10% discount for a limited time! For those of you that might be new to the wonderfully wheat-filled world of our floury friend, your goal, as a slice of bread, is to become toast. While I’m sure you’re thinking that, that constrains your options to a regular kitchen appliance such as a, oh, I don’t know, toaster. Well, you’re wrong! All you need is a heat source to get toasty up in this brioche. Get creative. There are a few things you do need to worry about, though. On your many adventures across bedroom floors and garden flower beds, you’ve got to make sure you’re not covered in dirt, mud, ants, and a whole host of other things that will affect your edibility. As well as that, keep an eye on your time because the slower you are, the worse grade you’ll get once you finish the level. Like Surgeon Simulator, we pride ourselves on bringing you games that utilize physics in ways that others don’t. Controlling a slice of bread is obviously something a bit out of the ordinary, but our fantastic team have come up with a brilliant control scheme that works perfectly with DualShock 4. Bread can grab hold of absolutely anything with its four corners and scurry, swing, or climb across any surface, all in a realistic manner. Yes, we’re being serious when we say bread can move in a realistic manner. However, we understand that there’s more to this particular foodstuff family than a mere slice of bread, and we feel like the games industry needs to progress by giving more options to the player. Play as a baguette and cause as much destruction as you’d like, smashing into as many things as possible, or roll around a multitude of race courses as a bagel, besting your friends’ times on the leaderboards. As well as that, there’s Cheese Hunt, Zero-G mode, and Free Roam where you can loaf around as much as you want. For the first week of launch, I am Bread is 10% off for PlayStation Plus members, meaning there’s never been a better time to jump in and become the bread. We’re only scratching the surface on what can be achieved in this accurate representation of a slice’s lifespan. The world is your oyster… or toaster, rather. So, go and toast. View the full article
  11. Mega Man is one of Capcom’s earliest and most beloved characters. I’ve even met gamers that have never played a Mega Man game before, but own Mega Man shirts or even have tattoos of him! We hope to make jumping into Mega Man the easiest it’s ever been with this collection of the series’ 8-bit origins: Mega Man 1-6 for only $14.99. Whether you’re new to the series or it’s just been a while, we’ve put together a little video history piece about what each of the games introduced, and what made them special. Alongside the six games, which display in crisp HD sprites, we’re including a ton of content in Mega Man Legacy Collection that will let everyone really get to know the rest of what makes Mega Man so timeless: Database: All six games include a Database that features a description of every enemy and which weapon they’re weak against. The best part is you can jump into a practice fight against any Robot Master with all weapons available to you before diving into the full game. Museum: We compiled hundreds of production art pieces, concept work, unused enemy sketches, and other cool artifacts. Seeing all this art that was the source of the pixel art in the game feels like a treat because it’s a new way to see the games you and I played. Music player: The music is one of the strongest components of what makes Mega Man so popular, and this player puts all 100+ tracks from Mega Man 1-6 in one spot for you to enjoy. Challenges: A series of 50+ challenges that take some of the most difficult sections of the games and arranges them in a time trial format. It’s fully supported by leaderboards and video replays for the top times so you can learn from the best. What sets Challenge Mode apart from just playing the full game as fast as you can is that you have access to all the weapons and items from the respective game for each section of a challenge. This creates situations where you can find the fastest way through a stage that’s not normally available. For example, you can find ways to use Item 2 (Jet Sled) to bypass areas on Air Man’s stage. I’m looking forward to seeing how creative you all get to get through areas quickly. It’s a whole new challenge when you have all the tools at your disposal. Before I leave you, there’s one question I want to answer that I often see. Why Mega Man 1-6? Good question. Allow me to introduce developer Digital Eclipse, a team that is deeply rooted in the preservation of video games as a valid media of our cultural heritage, on the same level as movies and TV. They’ve even worked with the Smithsonian to get video games in historic displays. Digital Eclipse specializes in creating an authentic experience that is completely accurate to the original game by using their new engine that can do this without porting or emulating. All the original glitches, cheats, flicker is there naturally because of the quality of this reproduction effort. This tech is currently developed for games made on the original console Mega Man 1-6 were developed for, hence the games in this collection. If there are any Capcom 8-bit games you’d like to see get the same treatment, I’m all ears! Now it’s time for me to sign off. You can go download and enjoy Mega Man Legacy Collection on PS4 today! 14. Dreams do come true. Starting tomorrow, August 25th, Back to Bed — Indie Prize Europe’s nominee for Best Console Game and winner of the Dutch Game Awards’ Guts and Glory award — is walking its way onto your PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. In our last post, we introduced you to Bob, the sleepwalker, Subob, his man-faced dog guardian, and the surrealist dream puzzle world from the minds of Bedtime Digital Games. Back to Bed is a whimsical and challenging puzzle game with not-of-this-world environments that blur the lines between fantasy and reality. As Subob, you must defy gravity, avoid enemies and treacherous encounters, and use unlikely objects like fish bridges and giant-size apples to guide Bob back to the safety of his bed. With 30+ levels and two modes — Play and Nightmare — Back to Bed will force you to think quickly on your feet and more than a few steps ahead. If you are looking for a real challenge, we invite you to try Nightmare mode which adds additional tasks, like collecting keys to unlock Bob’s bedroom door, to increase each level’s difficulty. To get an insider’s perspective on Back to Bed’s journey from a student project to a big time console game, we reached out to Klaus Pedersen and Jonas Byrresen from Bedtime Digital Games to tell their story. We hope you enjoy it. LOOT: How did you come up with the idea for Back to Bed? Bedtime Digital Games: The core idea for Back to Bed was originally inspired by old Disney cartoons where characters like Donald Duck and Goofy sleepwalk around dangerous areas, such as construction sites and over rooftops, and miraculously come out unscathed due to sheer dumb luck. In those cartoons, the environment constantly adapts and the sleepwalker is somehow saved in the nick of time and always returns home safely. LOOT: What inspired you to create such a whimsical and unique game? Bedtime Digital Games: At first, the game was more realistic — just a cityscape with a few strange elements. But over time, it evolved into a dreamlike, whimsical world that only could be found in the mind of Bob the Sleepwalker. This created the idea that what we see is half-dream and half-real, and that everything is not what it seems. To create this world, our Art Director looked very much into classic surreal art that often creates strange surreal landscapes where the rules of physics are bent to create something new. Great inspirations here were artists like Salvador Dali, Magritte, and Escher for his illusions. The result is a game world that is inspired by the real world, but is something else that is half dream. LOOT: How did Back to Bed — originally a student project at DADIU — turn into a full-blown console game? Bedtime Digital Games: When we completed Back to Bed as a student project, it was only as a PC web build and contained about a dozen levels. It was a very good start to what was clearly a strange yet funny universe with a great core mechanic. Once our peers played the game, they began telling us we had to continue with development. We took that to heart and began to see our dreams turn into reality. We started to spend weekends and some vacation working on the game. Our initial goal was just to get a game out there with our name on it, as a way to maybe start a career in game development — but it turned into much more than that. We decided to take a chance with an investor and start our own company, with Back to Bed as the first product. We made a smaller team from the old student group and then just crunched on making more levels, different worlds, Nightmare play mode, and new audio. The culmination of all this work is the console version, where we feel the game really shines, looks great and controls like we want. For us, Back to Bed is truly at home on PlayStation. LOOT: As a student and game development studio just starting out, what challenges did you face and overcome? Bedtime Digital Games: One of the big changes that we had to make, that is very unique to DADIU student games, was to scale down the team size. As a student team, we had around 15 people (more or less) connected to and working on the game. A team that size was not something our budget could handle and not all members were ready to make the big jump to starting their own indie studio. Luckily, some of the core members took the plunge with us to found Bedtime Digital Games and we were able to give credit to those who helped create the core game. The other major challenge: suddenly you are no longer a student team, but now a full-fledged game development studio, whether you were ready or not. We quickly learned that the passion and desire to make great games is not always enough to be successful. You also have to make sure that your company is a solid business. This is done by first and foremost creating a solid and fun product, but also making sure players know your game and that your studio exists. You have to also love talking about your studio and games. LOOT: Any other cool and interesting things about the game or the development that you would like to share with the PlayStation audience? Bedtime Digital Games: Being able achieve our dream of getting Back to Bed on PlayStation is such a rush. The feeling that this strange world and story that we have created and polished is something people actually want to play in and explore is incredible. We constantly hear individual interpretations of our simple, yet surreal story, from our fans. They tell us how they perceive this dream world and the deeper meaning it has to them, beyond being a fun game, to get lost it. This inspires us to be inventive and drives us create more games! Back to Bed will be available tomorrow on August 25th. The cross buy console exclusive, with cross save support and Trophies, will launch with an exclusive dynamic PS4 theme, along with special discount pricing for PlayStation Plus members. And remember: the clock turns Bobwise. View the full article

  17. For Xeodrifter, the long road to release on PS4 and PS Vita is finally upon us here at Gambitious, and we’re super stoked to be sharing our experiences of getting Renegade Kid’s great action-exploration game to gamers on PlayStation devices. As a cross buy title and with demos available on PSN, we’re hoping as many people as possible will play Renegade Kid’s stellar 2D platformer and become as big a fan of their work as we are! The journey officially began right before PAX East 2015, as Renegade Kid was looking for a publishing partner to help put Xeodrifter on PlayStation devices. As a start-up ourselves, and based locally in Austin, TX, right beside Renegade Kid, a collaboration between Gambitous and the Mutant Mudds developer made perfect sense. We officially announced a collaboration at PAX East 2015, bringing Renegade Kid to (a very snowy) Boston to interact with fans and share the news that Xeodrifter was finally coming to PS4 and PS Vita! The thing that drew us to Xeodrifter (besides Renegade Kid’s stellar pedigree) is how easy it is to pick up and enjoy. The game is quite clearly an homage to the 2D action-adventure games we all grew up loving as kids. From its retro-inspired 8-bit aesthetic, to the (critically acclaimed) chiptunes soundtrack, the game is a love letter to the 2D platformers of ole. Xeodrifter™ OST by Renegade Kid For us, this sense of playability was validated at PAX, as people could easily show up to the booth, put on the headphones and enjoy the game. This is actually a really informative process at conventions, too, as you can tell very quickly what features or designs are working for players and which ones aren’t. With the glory of PAX East over, development of Xeodrifter began in earnest as we returned back from the snow entrenched state of Massachusetts. This is where the programming wizard, Matthew Gambrell of Renegade Kid came in and pretty much stole the show in terms of his programming wizardry. To exemplify the coding prowess of Matthew’s warlock-like powers, gather round granddaddy Gambitious and let us tell you a story of how QA works in this industry. Usually, QA is a long, arduous process that can result in a lot of back and forth between the QA team testing the game and the developers creating it. “Finding bugs, fixing them, finding bugs, fixing them, etc.,†is usually the tedious routine that is involved with this process. As some might say in the industry, it is a necessary evil, but an evil we all embrace. However, for Matt, this was not the process. No, no, no, for Matt, QA is when this guy just kicks back his feet and watches everyone nod in awe of how smoothly everything is going. We here at Gambitious must give Matt the most gracious of bows as the kid managed to get the game through QA without a single-hitch, allowing us to easily transition into submitting the game to PlayStation in preparation for Xeodrifter’s inclusion on PlayStation store. This is a great place to mention how great of a partner PlayStation has been through this entire process, too. Reaching out to us about their Summer retail promotional tour, we were invited to include Xeodrifter in PS4 units across the country for gamers to try the game for themselves at select retailers. For an indie publisher such as ourselves, this is a huge deal and is such a great gesture from PlayStation to allow us into their retail promo program. We here at Gambitious are incredibly grateful to Renegade Kid for entrusting us to help deliver this game to PlayStation fans across the world so they can experience this fantastic 2D platformer for themselves. At long last, Xeodrifter will be making its debut on PlayStation devices on September 1st! We hope you enjoy it! View the full article

  21. Call of Duty Blacks Ops 3 Beta: Everything You Need to Know | PlayStation.Blog It’s been almost three years since we’ve seen Treyarch’s take on Call of Duty, but the Black Ops 3 Beta proves that the veteran studio hasn’t lost its expert touch. The addition of selectable Specialist characters, wall-running shootouts worthy of a Wachowskis movie, and powerful new weapons all add up to a fresh and dynamic experience. Whether you’re a series veteran or new to Call of Duty, this PlayStation.Blog post is dedicated to getting you ahead in the Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Beta, currently live on PS4 through the end of the weekend. But we need your help! Below is a list of tips I’ve collected from my hands-on time in the Beta. What are yours? Leave them in the comments below, or Tweet them to us (include #blackops3ps4tips). Over the course of the week, this Blog post will grow and evolve, covering every element under the sun: Specialists, weapons, gear, perks, and more. Basics Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 PS4 | $59.99 Pre-order for Beta access Slow down! Simple, but critical. When you sprint, you draw attention from enemy combatants. It’s better to creep quietly and use nearby cover to keep a low profile. Keep it simple. Black Ops III adds new Combat Movements, or special stunts you can chain together to zip fluidly through the maps. You can do just fine without any of them, though, so don’t lose yourself in Wall Running just for the sake of it. Fire when ready. Firing your weapon will set off enemy radars and draw the wrong kind of attention. Be mindful of when and where you fire your weapon, and be prepared to deal with enemies who may be drawn to the scene. Learn to dominate. If you’ve been away from the Call of Duty scene for some time, Domination mode may be your more accessible way to level up without having to sport an elite kill-death ratio. As long as you can capture and defend territories, you can die as much as you like with no consequence. @PlayStation #blackops3ps4tips Be aware of your surroundings. Where your teammates ARE, the enemies AREN'T. Go where your teammates aren't. — Alakazam (@Alakazam318) August 20, 2015 @PlayStation Aim your grenades and secondary grenades high. If you think it's high enough, it's not. #blackops3ps4tips — Boro (@TBP_Jake) August 20, 2015 Specialists Charge Battery. Battery is a strong starter candidate for your Specialist slot. Her Kinetic Armor ability can be a lifesaver if your skills are still a little rusty, while the War Machine is a powerful special weapon that can blow enemies away even if they’re behind cover. @PlayStation Use the Seraph specialist because you get a 1-shot kill revolver as your special ability. — Piero (@mazdoh) August 20, 2015 @PlayStation When running Nomad, shoot Hive on every opening to your building to let you focus on your objective with your gun. — Cody/C4 (@C4CodyW) August 20, 2015 @PlayStation @charlieINTEL a good #blackops3ps4tips when using RUIN's Spikes, time it properly otherwise you'll waste it as you activate it — Mutilatorz (@Mutilatorz) August 20, 2015 Create-a-Class Token trouble. Keep a close eye on those precious Unlock Tokens, which open up new guns, add-ons, Specialist abilities, and Perks. It’s easy to make a few hasty decisions and then regret them later when you find a weapon you really like. Invest for success. Early on, it’s best to pick one or two guns you like and upgrade them, gaining key attachments like Quickdraw (faster aiming), Long Barrel (further range), and Stock (higher accuracy). Strong candidates include the versatile ARK-7 rifle and the balanced Kuda SMG. You’ll unlock @PlayStation The razorback is an all around good weapon, it is good at short to long range gun battles. — Tybeerius Longhorn (@CallMeGZuZ) August 20, 2015 @PlayStation Best tip ever: watch your back! Use of Sixth Sense perk is a lifesaver. A moving personal motion sensor. #blackops3ps4tips — TheDrunkenCrew (@TheDrunkenCrew) August 20, 2015 @PlayStation Try using the Black Hat. Unlike BO2 it doesn't just destroy enemy scorestreaks, but it actually gives you control over them — Virgil (@Virgil134) August 20, 2015 Advanced Tactics @PlayStation You can shoot down scorestreaks with specialist weapons #blackops3ps4tips https://t.co/VRsAjQcsGm — JHub (@xJHUBx) August 20, 2015 @PlayStation dont try to knife while wall running pic.twitter.com/5BOl743PrU — HerbzDunGoofed! 22. Hello! I’m Anthony Swinnich, one of the three people at Neon Deity Games who designed Shutshimi! The game is done, and we’re proud to announce it will be swimming onto PS4 and PS Vita on August 25th as a cross buy title, courtesy of our benevolent publisher Choice Provisions. That’s super soon! We didn’t set out to reinvent the Goldfish SHMUP genre, but sometimes you go where the current takes you. Shutshimi began as a game jam project made in under 24 hours, but we fell so deeply in love with the concept that we decided to go forth and flesh it out into a full game. Several months later we “finished†and released it into the deep blue sea, but we were still filled with a ton of great ideas, so we got to work on an update. That update spiraled out of control and became a vastly expanded version of the original game, adding 2-4 player local co-op, loads of wacky new power-ups, new and updated sprites and backgrounds, a ton of additional songs, brand new enemies and bosses, lots of extra hats, cross save and Trophy support, and even online leaderboards. If this is your first time hearing of the game, Shutshimi is a Cute ‘Em Up about the story of The Fishy defending its home waters against an army of mysterious invaders. Squids, pelicans, reverse-mermen, bears, and more are overrunning the sea and it’s up to you to stop them! Levels normally last ten seconds, then the player has ten seconds to pick a power-up from the shop for the next round. However, The Fishy has a horrible memory so these power-ups are often forgotten as quickly as they’re found. Did we mention that only three are available each time, and they’re pulled down from a pool of more than 50, or that some are good and some are bad? It’s up to you to pick the best tools for the job, but it’s easier said than done! The ten-second time limit for the Mad Libs-style item descriptions will pressure you to read fast, think fast, and choose fast. Now that development is done, we’d be remiss not to make note of the help and guidance we’ve received from our publisher, Choice Provisions. Their expertise and experience have aided us in creating a game we think is an incredibly strange but fun ride, and that’s something we’d say even if they didn’t threaten to cancel our deal and never release us from their basement! (Seriously! Call the police! The rats here are jerks!) All of that said, we hope you’ll dive in and get your feet wet with Shutshimi. We’ll be floating around if anyone has any questions! 24. After releasing Risen 3: Titan Lords on PS3 last year, we were eager to take the opportunity to also bring the game to RPG fans on PS4. It’s actually the first time we’ve done in-house PS4 development, and as such we were really pushing to further improve and optimize the graphics of the game by taking advantage of the power PS4 provides. Our first objective was improving texture resolution for items, objects, foliage, terrain, particle effects, characters, monsters, and other in-game models and integrating them into the game in a higher quality than before. As such, our PS4 version actually features better textures and improved viewing ranges than we were able to provide on the “Ultra†settings with the 32-bit PC version. Thanks to the 64-bit architecture and the larger memory, we were also able to drastically reduce loading times. We’ve also been able to introduce new, state-of-the-art, post-process effects such as bokeh depth of field and HDR bloom, as well as enabling a new physically based, more visually-realistic cloud rendering technique that adds even more spectacular skies and sunsets to the dynamic day-night cycles. The PS4 features like remote play, streaming, recording, and share play are also of course supported. Risen 3: Titan Lords — Enhanced Edition also includes all updates as well as all additional content released to date, including the Adventure Garb, Fog Island, and Uprising of the Little Guys DLCs. This adds two additional islands to the main game together with new monsters, landscapes, and items. Each of these islands also brings its own storyline with new characters and quests. And for our experienced players and Risen veterans, we’re also pleased to announce the introduction of an all-new “ultra†difficulty level, featuring even more difficult opponents as well as changes in the gameplay such as introducing additional vulnerability during evasive maneuvers or adding a cooldown on potions — we’re can’t wait to see how our fans Rise to this particular challenge! Have fun! Björn Pankratz & Philipp Krause View the full article
  25. Calling all PS4 fans! Before we launch our next major system software update, we’re running a beta program to test its functionality. If you’d like to get a sneak peek at the features of the new system software, and help us with feedback on ways to improve it, sign up today. You can sign up to be a beta tester here. You will need a PS4 system (of course), an Internet connection, and a master account — sub-accounts cannot participate in the program. Make sure you’re a member of the PlayStation Forums in advance to get access to our beta forums. Also, beta testers will be able to roll back to the previous PS4 system software update (v2.57) anytime. The beta program will start in early September, and we’ll have more information on the new features included at that time. We are accepting a limited number of beta testers, so if you’re interested, sign up sooner rather than later. Thanks in advance for helping test the system software update — your feedback will go a long way toward making this even better. View the full article
