  1. Hi, PlayStation fans. In addition to Gravity Rush Remastered coming to PS4 in February next year, I’m excited to announce Gravity Rush 2 is also coming to North America, exclusively on PS4. In the sequel to the acclaimed PS Vita original, you’ll have brand new gravity-shifting options and combat mechanics at your disposal. Kat can now use three gravity styles that add more variety and combat options: Normal, Lunar, and Jupiter. In Lunar style, the force of gravity is reduced, making Kat lighter and quicker. In Jupiter style, gravity is increased, slowing down Kat’s movements but making her more powerful. You can switch between Kat’s three gravity styles seamlessly to combine the styles into different combos for each situation. Also new to Gravity Rush 2 is the Tag Battle system which pairs you up with an AI-controlled ally to take on the more serious opposition like Raven assisting Kat. For all you fans who can’t get enough, Japan has a slightly extended gameplay trailer with a bit more footage of the various gravity styles and combat. That’s all we can say for now, so I’ll leave the concluding words to Gravity Rush creative director Toyama-san himself, who has a message for you: As you saw from the footage during the Paris Games Week press conference, you’ll be able to mix and match a wide variety of combat styles any way you want, so there’ll be enough action to please Gravity veterans and new players alike. And of course, there’s a whole lot more we haven’t shown you yet, so stay tuned! Stay tuned to PlayStation.Blog for more Gravity Rush updates, and watch out for Gravity Rush Remastered landing in February for $29.99, exclusively via PlayStation Store. View the full article

  3. Hey everyone, there was quite a bit of info just announced at Paris Games Week. First, Street Fighter V has a confirmed release date of February 16th, 2016 in North America! So mark your calendars as we count down the days towards launch. Also, we have just announced that we’re releasing six additional characters post-launch in 2016. As mentioned previously, all post-launch gameplay related content will be earnable with Fight Money, and we have revealed the first details on how players will be able to earn Fight Money when the game comes out. And last but not least, we have confirmed that Dhalsim will be joining the initial roster as the first true zoning character in the game. Post-Launch Character DetailsIn case you haven’t heard, Street Fighter V is moving away from doing large bundles of post launch content, such as our prior Super or Ultra upgrades, and instead will be continuously releasing new post-launch content on a regular basis. No longer will you need to wait one or two years for new Street Fighter goodness; it will always be right around the corner. We have confirmed that we will be releasing 6 new characters post-launch in 2016, which will bring the total roster up to 22 characters by the beginning of 2017. On average, we will release one new character every two months, provided everything stays on track with our development schedule. More specifics will be shared when our post-launch plans are confirmed. Now, the next question you probably have is… how hard is it to get these characters for free? Fight Money DetailsThe purpose of the Fight Money system is to reward players who stay engaged with Street Fighter V over time. While we are still finalizing details on pricing and Fight Money accumulation rates, which will be refined throughout our future beta tests, we are excited to share some details on how we are approaching the new system. There will be two primary methods for players to gain Fight Money: completing daily goals, and leveling up individual characters. Daily Goals Each day a player logs into the Street Fighter V client, they will be assigned a new daily goal. Daily goals should be easily achievable in in one play session, and will award Fight Money based on their difficulty. Some example goals are as follows: Land X number of Hadokens Land X number of anti-air attacks Land X number crush-counter hits Daily goals will help players improve with a variety of characters. It will also ensure that players with a limited amount of time to play per day can still earn characters for free. We want a system that rewards frequency of play, rather than requiring long marathon grinding sessions. Leveling Individual Characters Another goal that we have for the Fight Money system is to ensure that players can still earn Fight Money through both single-player and multiplayer modes. We accomplish this by allowing players to earn Fight Money by leveling up individual characters in a variety of modes. To remove any confusion up front, leveling up a character in Street Fighter V will not affect game balance. It only shows how much time and effort an individual has placed into learning a character. Each time a player levels up a character, they will receive a Fight Money bonus. Earlier levels will be easy to obtain, and will scale to become more difficult the higher the level. Street Fighter V will reward players who experiment with a wide variety of characters, and those who play frequently. If you complete your daily goals and level up your characters on a regular basis, you’ll be on your way to earning new characters with ease! For those who just can’t wait to earn each piece of new content, content can also be purchased instantly using our premium currency, named Zenny, which can be bought with real money. Here Comes a New Challenger: Dhalsim! The return of Dhalsim in Street Fighter V marks the addition of the first true zoning character to join the initial roster. Using his long-range limbs and slow projectiles to frustrate overly offensive opponents, Dhalsim’s style has historically been keep-away since his inception in Street Fighter II. Although he’s a pacifist, Dhalsim steps into battle when it comes to saving others. From raising money for the poor to destroying dams that are forcefully keeping water from his village, Dhalsim takes up arms if the good outweighs the harm he can cause. In Street Fighter V, Dhalsim once again joins the fray to help those in need. Not one to slack on his Yoga training, Dhalsim has mastered a few new Yoga skills for this upcoming battle, those being his V-Skill — Yoga Float and his V-Trigger — Yoga Burner. V-Skill: Yoga Float Upon activation Dhalsim hops into the air and floats for a few seconds. During this time, all airborne attacks and specials are accessible. This can also be activated in the air. V-Trigger: Yoga Burner Dhalsim shoots out a stream of flames that stays on the screen on the floor for an extended period of time. If the opponent stands in the flames, they will slowly lose life in the form of recoverable damage. Once they step out of the flames, their life will begin to recover. Will Dhalsim’s style be strictly keep-away or will he be more aggressive this time? Fans at Paris Games Week will be experience him for the first time on the show floor, so people will find out soon enough! Until next time guys! View the full article

  5. Hi everyone. Some of you might remember a PS3 tech demo called Kara that we released in 2012. It was about an android who discovered she could feel emotions and appeared to be sentient. Many people were deeply moved by this character and felt empathy for this character who just wanted to live. But everyone had the same question: what happens to Kara when she leaves the factory? I kept asking myself the same question since we released this short. I knew I had to find out! So we imagined our world in a near future where androids like Kara would look, speak, and move like real human beings. We wondered how we — humans — would react if we were confronted with a new form of intelligence, how androids conceived as machines would be perceived if they started to have emotions. We didn’t want to do another story on AI (there are already so many great ones), we wanted to talk about what it means to be human and what it would be like to be in the shoes of an android discovering our world and their own emotions… I am really excited to announce that Quantic Dream’s new title is called Detroit. 6. Racing fans, brace yourselves — this evening at the Paris Games Week PlayStation Press Conference, Kazunori Yamauchi, along with SCEE CEO & President Jim Ryan, unveiled on stage the latest Gran Turismo iteration: Gran Turismo Sport, coming to PS4 in 2016. On stage, the Polyphony team talked about the advances that PS4 offers to allow them to continue to improve the graphics, physics, and sound to deliver the most realistic driving simulator to date. But with GT Sport they’re looking to deliver more than that; to deliver a revolution in the way that people experience driving games, a figurative “rebirth†of motorsports. FIA Gran Turismo ChampionshipsIn Gran Turismo Sport, there will be two FIA online championships running simultaneously. In the Nations Cup, players will be able represent their home country. Whilst in the Manufacturers Cup, players will be driving on behalf of their favorite car manufacturer. Players will not only be able to race as drivers themselves, they’ll also be able to root for their home country or their favorite manufacturers teams. The winner of the championship will be awarded in the same manner as real life motorsports champions, at the FIA prize giving ceremony. This will be a historic moment, the first time a video game will officially be recognized as part of the real motoring world. FIA PartnershipWorking alongside the historic FIA, to develop a game that continues to be more realistic and authentic, the online racing championships promise to offer something new for players. But it’s not just about online racing; the GT teams have continued to build on the games legacy of accessibility to ensure that the game is open to all to enjoy. With the beta expected to begin in Spring 2016, it won’t be long before players can experience all GT has to offer on the power of PS4. View the full article
  7. Hey everyone, Elijah from Crytek, here. I’m lucky enough to be working as Executive Producer on Robinson: The Journey, and wanted to share a little more info on the project with you. In Robinson, you assume the role of a young boy who has crash-landed on a mysterious planet, and must become a pioneer of sorts as you explore your surroundings, interact with the world around you, and discover amazing secrets at every turn. I can’t go into too many specifics right now, but that’s the (very) high level overview! As a studio, we’re really excited to be creating Robinson for PlayStation VR, and believe it’s the perfect platform for what we’re striving to achieve with the game. But what exactly are we striving to achieve? Good question. Probably the best place to start is with a couple of VR demos we’ve shown at industry events this year. Back to Dinosaur Island 1 and 2 offered different types of VR experiences, but both acted as inspiration for Robinson. The first of those demos placed players in a more static role as a giant dinosaur stared them down at close quarters, and the follow-up featured greater interactivity as users scaled a cliff and took in their expansive surroundings. Probably the most inspirational aspect of these demos for us was the reaction they received! A lot of players and press highlighted them as being among the best VR experiences they’d had, which felt like validation of the track we were on. That track was — and still is — to create the most realistic, immersive worlds possible using our CRYENGINE technology. Crytek is in a relatively rare position as a developer of both games and a game engine. We’ve found that to be a major asset as we work on Robinson, because our efforts to be at the forefront of gaming tech over the years have led us to develop CRYENGINE features that are proving to be really powerful for creating VR games. A lot of the reaction we received to the Back to Dinosaur Island demos was about how authentic the environments felt — the foliage, the lighting, the dinos, etc. People really seemed to respond positively to the level of visual fidelity, and we do believe that this can set a VR experience out from the crowd and take the feeling of being present to a whole new level. So, to return to my own question, what are we striving to achieve with Robinson: The Journey? You could say it’s about recreating that level of authenticity on a much, much grander scale. That means not just making something visually stunning, but also telling a story that is emotionally engaging and which resonates with players beyond the game world. It’s a bold ambition, we know. But just as PlayStation VR will invite players to enjoy gaming in an entirely new way, I think it should also inspire us as developers to create ambitious experiences worthy of this amazing new technology. 8. Hi there, my name is Simon Harris and I’m an Executive Producer over at Supermassive Games. Today, we’re delighted to unveil Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, developed exclusively for PlayStation VR on PS4. Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is a descent into madness, taking you on a terrifying rollercoaster ride of thrills and scares in a fast-paced, arcade-style shooter. We’re incredibly excited to be developing for PlayStation VR as this allows us to bring games to PS4 with a level of immersion and involvement never before experienced by players. When we first started working on Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, we were still in the middle of development on Until Dawn, but it was clear to us that the world and characters we were creating would be perfect to expand into new experiences. As we established compelling gameplay for VR, we were able to combine that with a journey through many familiar aspects of Blackwood Pines, but from a horrifying new perspective! Playing Until Dawn: Rush of Blood in VR is incredibly different to playing games of a similar genre in the traditional method of sitting in front of a TV screen, so we’re looking forward to seeing how players react! Prepare for Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, the (Last?) ride of your life! View the full article
  9. RIGS Mechanized Combat League is at Paris Games Week with a brand-new playable arena. For the uninitiated, RIGS is a competitive, first-person arena shooter currently being developed for PlayStation VR by Guerrilla Games Cambridge. The eponymous “RIGS†are piloted, highly-tuned, athletic machines that compete in the global sport of the future. Located in the gorgeous city of Dubai, the new stadium is much larger than Rio, the arena previously shown at E3. With more open areas and a symmetrical layout, this is a brand new way to experience Mechanized Combat. We caught up with Art Director Tom Jones and Senior Artist Laura Dilloway to talk about the Dubai stadium, its inspirations, design considerations, and impact on player tactics. Hi Tom and Laura! Please tell us a little bit about the new Dubai Stadium. Tom: The Dubai arena is a huge, custom-built stadium with soaring stands and wide views of the city. We wanted it to feel at home amongst the scale and lavishness of Dubai, so the whole stadium is designed to be awe-inspiring. It’s deliberately clean and bright, with crisp white flowing structures and calm blue skies. The stadium floor is partly covered with sand, to further strengthen the ties to Dubai and offer a unique natural element to shoot other RIGS in. You evolved the Rio skyline to match your vision of the future. Did you do the same for Dubai? Tom: Absolutely. RIGS: Mechanized Combat League is set 50 years in the future, so we thought of various ways to update the already-impressive architecture. Among other things we added a huge space elevator to the skyline, to serve as a key landmark and another testament to human endeavour. Where is the Dubai stadium located geographically? Laura: The stadium has its own island just off the coast! One of the most defining features of Dubai — aside from the impressive architecture that Tom mentioned — is the fantastically-shaped manmade islands. It’s a perfect fit for the location of the Dubai stadium: not only does it convey the huge wealth of the city, but it also hints at how popular RIGS is as a sport in 2065. Aside from the manmade islands, what were some of the other inspirations for the stadium? Laura: The Dubai we know today already boasts some of the most advanced structures in the world, so we didn’t have to look far for inspiration. Something we really loved were the beautifully landscaped gardens that accompany these structures, like the one at the Burj Khalifa. We then started looking at huge stadiums and sports parks from around the world, including the 2012 Olympic Park in London, to see how we could marry these ideas together. Compared to Rio, how does the size of this arena affect the PowerSlam game mode? Tom: The arena may be bigger, but the structures are still designed to guide the player around the Dubai stadium in a very natural way. All large ramps ultimately lead towards the central goal, which makes routing very obvious. The ramps themselves are integrated into the overall architecture, which allows them to hold large banks of spectators. This creates both a fantastic sense of scale and a consistently immersive sporting experience. Are there any tactical changes that a player needs to consider when playing in this stadium? Laura: The biggest tactical change is probably that picking your spawn points carefully is more important in the Dubai stadium. For example, you can spawn very close to the goal, but you’ll be quite exposed — so you have to consider if it’s worth the risk. If you’re happy out in the open, then using melee as a boost to jump between the large structures is also really useful. On the other hand, if you prefer a more stealthy approach, there are a lot tunnels under the stadium that allow you to circle around your opponents and come at them from unexpected directions. Were there any lessons from the Rio arena you were able to use to your advantage for Dubai? Tom: Definitely. We gained a lot of experience during the creation of our Rio arena with regards to how best to create a readable world for VR. We also established a lot of our sporting tropes, which we have carried through into the Dubai arena. Laura: A good example is highlighting the routes up to the goal in yellow, which is something we did in Rio as well. We’re also largely using the same materials for our playing surfaces, and we’ve created fictional sponsors that advertise globally across all the stadiums — in addition to more location-specific sponsors. You’ve unveiled Rio and Dubai thus far. Can we expect more global cities as backdrops for RIGS arenas? Tom: Yes, for sure! We’re very keen to look at other cities and continents to house our stadiums. Ultimately, RIGS Mechanized Combat League should feel like a global sport, so it’s important to us that we cover different cultures and styles of arenas. If you’re at Paris Games Week, be sure to try out RIGS Mechanized Combat League on PlayStation VR for yourself! If you happen to be one of the lucky ones who have already played the Rio level then look out for the new play experience offered by the Dubai arena. View the full article

  11. So it finally happened! The Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Multiplayer was revealed to the world. The trailer shown earlier today at the PlayStation press conference for Paris Games Week gave people a glimpse of all the hard work the Naughty Dog multiplayer team has put into it. And hey, if you’re joining us at PlayStation Experience this December, you’ll be able to go hands-on! Over the course of development for Uncharted 4 Multiplayer there have been a number of ideas that sounded great on paper, which were tried and failed. This happened time and time again but through each iteration there was one nugget of “that is cool†that we would cling to and bring with us into the next iteration. We were constantly applying our lessons learned on our previous experiences with Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3, and The Last of Us which helped shape an incredibly exciting, fast, and deeply rich multiplayer game. Expect the teamwork, over-the-top action-adventure, and detail-rich gameplay environments you’ve come to expect from the Uncharted series Multiplayer mode. We have greatly enriched multiplayer with elements you may have caught in the trailer. One thing we’ve done in particular is introduce a number of systems completely unique to Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Multiplayer. Sidekicks: When you are in a pinch you can call in your friendly Sidekick to help you. These are unique, AI controlled characters that come equipped with unique abilities that can help turn the tide of a battle. Mysticals: These are supernatural abilities from the Uncharted series that give a player unique powers. See if you can recognize what Mystical abilities we are showing off in the trailer. Last, you will be able to leverage the grappling hook in a number of locations in our multiplayer maps. We have also heavily leveraged this exciting mechanic for our melee. Yes, you will be able to land on people and take them out –would you expect less? If you are at Paris Games Week, please join us at the PlayStation booth on the show floor to get your hands on our first playable demo of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Multiplayer. This demo will also be at PAX Australia from October 30th to November 1st, and at Lisboa Games Week from November 5th to November 8th. If you can’t join us at one of these shows, you can gain exclusive access to the Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Beta by buying Uncharted: The Nathan Drake collection. The Beta will run from December 4th to December 13th, 2015. We look forward to seeing you online in the final, full version of Multiplayer when Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is released worldwide on March 18th, 2016. View the full article
  12. Hello, PlayStation! Ben and James from Wonderstruck here, and we’re really (Really!) excited to announce that our open-world sandbox universe Boundless is coming to PS4. Boundless is a super ambitious PS4 and PC cross-platform game where everyone (Yes, everyone!) plays together in a single online universe. Boundless is a big, open-ended game, and the best way to explain why it’s cool is to tell you what you might do, because it’s your story… Your Homeworld and BeyondYour homeworld in Boundless looks and feels unique, procedurally generated to look like no other. You don’t like it? Hey, acid rain can be a serious drag. No worries! Build a Portal and instantly step into another world in the Boundless universe. Ah, a beautiful pistachio-colored, livestock-rich nirvana — much better for a farmer like you. The universe is huge and disparate. When you open a Portal to a new world you never know what you’ll get — sometimes you’ll thrive, sometimes you’ll have to fight to survive. Team Up, or Live AloneWhen you find that world you really like (you know, the one with that amazing waterfall), why not make if your official home and claim some land using a Beacon? Any land you claim will become yours, and yours alone to change. That is, of course, unless you want some neighbors, in which case invite your friends and form a guild. Share land, resources, build amazing things, and go on some adventures together. Compete with other guilds and become the most loved, or feared, group in the universe. The Apex ChallengeSearch each new world to discover the location of its ancient Titan. Once activated, these huge sentient fortresses menacingly stalk the landscape searching for anything they perceive as a threat. These apex predators are filled with traps and swarming with deadly Protectors. Attempted alone, your only hope is to explore, survive, and escape with a handful of valuable resources. If you’re feeling brave, call together all the citizens of your adopted world and attempt the impossible — defeat the Titan. A Bruising Physical SandboxBoundless is a physical sandbox, where you can grapple up to inaccessible mountain ledges and slide down ice paths into the deepest caves. Harvest Titan’s mechanical guts and repurpose them to make your own floating airships and ingenious contraptions. Fullfill your lifelong dream of becoming a space pirate! It’s the ultimate sandbox, create whatever you can dream of and share it with the world. Become Boundless and Write Your Own StoryIn Boundless, your character is unique and your role is free to be defined. You can succeed by doing the things you love, and use coin to shortcut the things you don’t. Here’s just a few examples of how you can make your mark in Boundless: Hunt for creatures in dangerous areas and sell the rare loot and materials you find to non-combative citizens. Offer your services as a master-builder to other citizens and do honest work for coin. Collect the weirdest creatures from across the universe and open a space zoo(!), then charge citizens coin to visit. Create amazing sandbox contraptions like people cannons and hyper-efficient crafting machines, and then sell copies of the blueprints to other players so they can create them too. Collect the most valuable and rarest resources from across the universe and open a shop that citizens will flock to. Open a Portal hub, connecting your world to distant worlds across the universe and allow citizens to travel, for a fee of course! Become a Boundless real estate agent, by searching for and claiming the coolest plots of land and then selling them to other players for coin. Craft the coolest wearables, the tint them to perfection and open a boutique fashion store. Those are just a few examples of what you’ll be able to do when the game launches on PS4. Our ambition is to build the ultimate open-world sandbox filled with real players, toys and mechanics. The most exciting things are yet to be discovered… James Austin & Ben Furneaux Director & Designer, Wonderstruck View the full article

  15. Hello everyone on PlayStation.Blog! My name’s Nao, and I’m here to talk about a new rhythm game from developers PM Studios and Nurijoy that will be co-published by PM Studios and acttil: Superbeat: Xonic for PS Vita! The team at PM Studios is the creative force behind DJ Max Fever which was released for PSP back in 2008. Now, they’re back and better than ever with a brand new music game full of original tunes and fun, intuitive gameplay. First things first, I’m incredibly excited to officially announce that Superbeat: Xonic will launch on November 10th via digital and retail. The wait won’t be very long! I’m also happy and humbled to announce that Superbeat: Xonic will feature tracks from ARC System Works’ BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, and Magical Beat as part of its stellar line up of DLC. Even more groovy DLC tracks will be available on launch day as well, so make sure your Vita is charged up and ready to rock. There are 3 difficulty modes (4TRAX, 6TRAX, and 6TRAX FX). Each mode is shown in the trailer above, so you can see how it gets more difficult and complicated as you progress through each mode. However, the challenge doesn’t end there! From the game’s settings, you can choose difficulty levels (Hard, Normal, and Easy) within these modes, so if you’re a seasoned rhythm game player, you can beef up the difficulty levels before the game even starts. Also, you can change the speed of the music. This title will let you go as crazy as you want with its challenges. Okay, before I let you all go, I’d like to share my list of 7 super cool things about Superbeat: Xonic. You can connect to PSN to view your DJ Ranking! You can see how you’re performing compared to other players in both local and worldwide ranking systems. You think you have rhythm in you? This is where you can show off against other rhythm gamers around the globe! There are so many music genres to choose from! Superbeat: Xonic is equipped with tracks that range from Rock to Pop, Techno to R&B. You can always switch up the music you play and keep things feeling fresh. Also, each song has its own difficulty gauge, so you can practice with easier songs first, or give it your all and attempt to pass the more challenging songs from the get go! Did I mention that all the original songs and music are incredibly awesome? I was hooked to all the catchy original songs even from my first playtest. I can listen to these songs even when I’m not playing. They get stuck in your head! The three modes give a great learning curve to newcomers to the rhythm game genre. If you’re a seasoned music game player, you can tweak settings to make the game consistently challenging and fun, so no worries there. For those who are not-so-familiar-with-music-games, don’t fret! There will be a beginner mode (4TRAX), and you’ll be able to modify the music speed. Tons of music patterns are available in Superbeat: Xonic. There are more than 200 different play patterns this game will throw at you. There will always be more difficult songs you can choose in each mode, and they will always have more complicated patterns to challenge your hand-eye coordination. Like I mentioned in the beginning of the blog, there will be DLC available for Superbeat: Xonic I’ll get more details about this when we have more information! Superbeat: Xonic will be equipped with more than 45 songs to begin with. You can take Superbeat: Xonic anywhere you go! The tracks average about 2 minutes in length, so you can pick up and play wherever you are in your day. Maybe you can rest your cell phone a bit, and make your PS Vita work hard for you for a little while! If you just want to indulge, you can play it via PlayStation TV as well! I hope you’re all excited for this new music game, which is out on November 10th. Thank you very much for taking the time to read my post. Have a great day, everyone! View the full article
  16. “I think everyone that’s ever seen Star Wars has had the dream of entering a fight with the legendary, slick starships of Han Solo or Boba Fett,†says Senior Designer Björn Sundell. There are many fantasy-fulfilling sides to Star Wars Battlefront, and Sundell has spent the last few years designing one of those aspects. There are plenty of memorable Star Wars vehicles in the game, but in the Fighter Squadron game mode, two particularly iconic ships are waiting to be piloted by you: Slave I and the Millennium Falcon. You acquire these ships through pickups on the Fighter Squadron maps. Once you’re behind the sticks, you’ve only got one spawn at your disposal before you’re back in a regular Rebel or Imperial starship — but the extra speed and firepower of Slave I and the Millennium Falcon will make you extra deadly. Boba Fett’s ship Slave I is even more of an arsenal-heavy craft. It’s equipped with Ion Cannons, Proton Torpedoes, and a jammer that can be activated to fly undetected on the mini-map and to avoid missile locks. Life is naturally easier with these epic vessels, but just because you have firepower equal to that of several regular ships doesn’t mean you’re invincible. In other words: don’t get cocky. “Don’t be surprised if you suddenly spot multiple foes at your tail when piloting these ships,†Sundell says. “During playtests we’ve noticed how excited players get to be the one taking down the Millennium Falcon or Slave I. You should always keep both offense and defense in mind.†Should you spot the Millennium Falcon or Slave I as a regular starship pilot, your best bet is to stay behind them and try to team up with other players. Since the Rebel and Imperial standard ships are smaller than the Hero Vehicles, you can also dive against the planetary surface and use crevices to shake off Solo or Fett’s pursuit. “One crucial thing to nail when designing the Hero Vehicles is to make players feel truly cool, powerful, and heroic when piloting them. This goes for both the visuals and feel. Playing Star Wars Battlefront, you should get the same feeling that you get when you see the Millennium Falcon swooping by and taking out TIE fighters in the movies.†This is done through an immense attention to detail, something that DICE’s photogrammetry sessions in the Star Wars archives helped ensure. Another detail setting the mood is the short intro sequence when you collect a Hero Vehicle pickup. “Hearing a line from Han Solo or seeing the missile hatches of Slave I open will hopefully set the mood for a thrilling highlight of the match,†Sundell says. You’ll be able to experience that mood first-hand when Star Wars Battlefront launches on November 17th. View the full article
  17. When talking about any Just Cause game, people usually imagine a sandbox game with a huge world, creative destruction, and tons of explosions. They are not wrong. But it’s nice to have a reason for all that chaos, right? We came up with a really original one: save the world and get some sweet revenge. That’s a much better reason than “I felt like it†— at least in our minds. Just Cause 3 | PlayStation.com In Just Cause 3, Rico comes home to save his homeland, Medici, from the rule of the despotic and manic General Di Ravello. This man and Rico go way back. Di Ravello is actually the reason why Rico left his home in the first place, so it’s no secret that they’re not on the best terms. This is the hardest challenge Rico has faced yet: not only will he need to free the people of Medici and beat Di Ravello, but also protect his friends. Let’s see how good he is at multi-tasking! But why didn’t Rico challenge Di Ravello ages ago, you ask? For a long time, Di Ravello’s craziness was confined within the borders of Medici. However, with the discovery of Bavarium, a miraculous ore that has amazing military capabilities, Di Ravello’s ambitions have expanded beyond that… to conquering the whole world. No pressure, eh? We’ve brought back some familiar faces to Just Cause 3, including Sheldon. There are also some brand new characters that you, together with Rico, will meet for the first time: such as Annika, the leader of the outlaws with connections in the underworld. You’ll also meet Dima, a brilliant scientist who plays a key role in the story, and Rico’s best friend Mario. So, there you go: a reason for Rico to come back home and blow a lot of stuff up. We hope you enjoy playing and destroying the world of Just Cause 3. For the people, of course. View the full article

  20. Hi, Mike Bithell here. It’s been two months since the launch of Volume on PlayStation and — thanks to your overwhelming support of the game — I’m happy to announce an expansion for Volume coming first to PlayStation VR at launch — Volume: Coda. Volume: Coda picks up after the events of the core game. I’ll avoid spoilers here, but you’ll play as a new character, brought in as a last resort by the villains hurt most by Locksley’s revolution. The new campaign features 30 new levels, a new cast of voice actors adding new characters to the story, and a new VR setting as players take on the role of The Troubleshooter. Volume: Coda is a free expansion to Volume. When the PlayStation VR platform launches next year (Nope, they won’t tell me when either), you’ll be able to play the Coda expansion and Volume’s core campaign in VR. You’ll also have access to all the user generated levels and, of course, the curated Staff Picks section where we highlight the best levels designed by the community. By the time you read this, the PS4 version of Volume will be patched in all available regions with the Checkpoints Update. The original design of Volume was heavily sided to speedrunners. The Checkpoints Update has added new modes and leaderboards for players seeking pure stealth or simply a more challenging experience. Now the different communities on PlayStation can compete against similar players on their own custom leaderboards. Where’s Volume for Vita? Well, it’s still happening and the game remains cross buy for PS4. We’ve hit some roadblocks, which slowed us down. Rushing out a weak port wasn’t an option, and I’m proud of what the team have managed to squeeze into that awesome little platform. Oh, and the Checkpoints Update is also absolutely included in the Vita version. Cannot wait for you folks to be able to check it out, and it doesn’t look like it’ll be too much of a wait. Oh, and one more thing… in celebration of the Checkpoints Update, Volume is on sale for PS4 at 30% off through November 4th. That was a lot of ground to cover. tl;dr: the Vita version of Volume is still coming and is still cross buy, PS4 now has the Checkpoints Update and more leaderboards, Volume is on sale, and I’m looking forward to sharing more about Volume: Coda leading up to the launch of PlayStation VR next year. 21. Hi, I’m Alex Rose, and I make Super Rude Bear Resurrection. I grew up on super hard platformers, and I’ve always been the type of person to unlock everything in every game, but I found a lot of people who love the same games never managed to complete them. I always thought it was a shame that people could love these games as much as me but ultimately get stuck halfway through, and end up never seeing a lot of the game even though they’d like to. I really wanted to make a game that would fix that problem, and make a super hardcore game that everyone would be able to beat, but I wanted to make sure the game was still fun for players who are into mega hard challenges — I didn’t want to devalue their experience. I ended up making Super Rude Bear Resurrection, a game that is arguably one of the hardest games ever to be released, but simultaneously playable by anyone. The solution was corpses — every time you die, your body stays behind, and you can use it as a shield you can push, or a platform, or to press down buttons. Each death is progress. Tricky spike that you really can’t get past? Next time round, there’s a cushiony corpse lying on it to protect you. Arrow trap too fast for you? Hide behind a corpse and shove it forwards. Anyone can beat Super Rude Bear Resurrection, it just takes a little determination, and it’s not tedious. You don’t find yourself annoyed at dying, because you know you’re just one step closer to victory. But for hardcore players who want the ultimate challenge, it means they have an insanely difficult one. If you want to collect all the Trophies, you’re going to have to complete every level without dying. And that is an extremely tall order, one of the hardest gaming challenges you’ll ever attempt. Most games have to be designed in a way where at least most people will be able to complete it without dying. Not Rude Bear. Rude Bear is designed in a way where you never have to die, but 99% of people probably will. To beat Rude Bear without dying is insanity. There are plenty of levels that I, as an extremely competent platformer player who has 100 percent’ed just about every hard platformer out there, and someone who’s been playing this game for 2 years straight, am still trying to complete. And the game is very, very fair. You won’t blame the game, you’ll blame yourself. All the hitboxes are so fair you’ll be surprised you survived, not angry you didn’t. The camera pans ahead of you whenever there’s any doubt of your reactions being fast enough. And if you’re feeling extra careful, you can even control your Fairy companion and fly around at any time, scouting out areas (even the entire level) before you attempt something. The engine is my proudest creation. I specialized in dynamics when studying Physics at university and making a tight controlling physics engine for a game was basically what my degree was made for. After a few hours, Rude Bear will be an extension of your brain, not a character you control on screen. Many hours of love have gone into making the game feel awesome, and making you feel like a badass when you accomplish something. I wanted to make the game perfect for speedrunning too, so there’s a lot of great features in there too that I’ll talk about later when they’re ready to show — things like every random event being seeded on your corpse count, so every optimal run will be identical. We’re super excited to be working with PlayStation, and launching early next year, and we’re going to be showing the game off at Paris Games Week to celebrate! So feel free to come down to our Playstation booth and experience it for yourself if you’re about. View the full article

  23. With Rainbow Six Siege, we wanted to return to the core pillars of teamwork, tactics, and tension while also pioneering a new gameplay direction for the series. You probably know some of the basics already (online multiplayer focus, attack and defense, etc.), but here are a few things you might have missed. 1.) Operators Create New, Strategic PossibilitiesTeam Rainbow is comprised of the world’s most elite operators selected from famed counter-terrorist units. Each operator is an expert in their field, with a unique gadget function, and a specific loadout dependent on from which CTU they were recruited from. There will be 20 at launch to choose from, and you’ll get to discover which ones speak to your specific playstyle. Operators work together to form powerful combinations, and there can’t be two of the same operator in a match, so teams will need to think carefully about their team composition and strategy. 2.) Destruction Molds the Environment to Your AdvantageDestruction isn’t just a neat, aesthetic feature in Rainbow Six Siege — it lies at the heart of the gameplay. Using breach charges and other tools on walls and floors allow you to surprise, trap, and create lines of sight on your opponents. The RealBlast engine enables us to provide procedural destruction, so surfaces will never break the same way twice. In the same sense, maps will be different every time you play depending on how you destroy and mold them throughout the course of the round. 3.) Sound is Just As Crucial as Visual IntelligenceWhile utilizing drones, surveillance cameras, and operator gadgets is a huge part of gaining an edge on your opponents, it’s just as important to listen to what’s happening around you. We’ve invested a lot of time implementing advanced sound propagation techniques, and audio cues can — and should — be used to your advantage. Footsteps, a reloading gun, or rappel rope outside a barricaded window may tip you off to imminent enemy engagement. Check out our YouTube channel in the coming weeks for an exclusive feature video on how we’re implementing sound propagation in our destructible environments. 4.) Enemy AI Archetypes in Terrorist Hunt Keep You on Your ToesIn Rainbow Six Siege, we wanted to make the AI more intelligent than ever before. PvE gameplay will feature different enemy AI archetypes controlled by an AI “Strategy Manager†that responds and adapts to your actions in the game. The archetypes can do anything human players can do, like breaching, fortifying, and rappelling — so they’re very unpredictable. Normal difficulty allows casual players to have fun with this mode, but hard and realistic difficulty levels provide a much more challenging experience for more hardcore or advanced players. 5.) We’re Investing in This Game for the Long TermBy going all-in with a focus on providing a great online multiplayer experience, we made a commitment to treating our game as a service and investing in it for the long term. Our vision was not a game that you’d play through and “beat,†but something you’d come back to time and again and grow with. In order to do that, we will be heavily supporting the game for at least one year with regular balancing and tweaks. New maps will be free for everyone, and we’ll be releasing the full details of our post-launch support soon on the Rainbow Six dev blog. 6.) Angela Bassett Plays “Sixâ€Academy Award-nominated actress Angela Bassett takes on the classic role of “Six,†the commander of Team Rainbow. Rainbow Six will feature a series of 11 solo missions called “Situations†that allow you to acclimate to the game and recruit new operators to join the team. Bassett will brief and debrief players for each situation. 7.) We Pay Close Attention to Player FeedbackNot only are we trying to do something new with the gameplay and how we support the game, but we’re also taking a deeper approach to how we work with the Rainbow Six community. We are very active on the official subreddit and forums, and work closely with players to improve the game based on their feedback. You can see some of the fruits of this collaboration in our post-Alpha changes blog post, and another community event we did earlier this year. If you’re serious about Rainbow Six and want to be a part of it, we’d love for you to join us. Hopefully you learned a little something new about Rainbow Six Siege from this post. In the coming months after the game is launched on December 1st, we expect that we’ll all learn some new things as new gameplay possibilities are explored. Thank you for your support, and we’ll see you soon. View the full article

  25. Hello, PlayStation.Blog. I’m Niels, co-founder of WeirdBeard — an independent game studio based in Amsterdam. We started developing games eight years ago and have made all sorts of games; entertainment, educational, and promotional — even medical games. Now I’m proud to announce our newest game for PS4: Tricky Towers. Ever since we started, we’ve wanted to make a console game and see the box standing in stores. This dream is now coming true. Well, partially, as boxes in stores are now almost something of the past. It has been a big challenge for our team so far, and we are very happy that Sony is with us on this ride. For everybody in the team it has been a great opportunity to show off their skills. For us, Tricky Towers is already a great experience! So what is the game? Tricky Towers is a multiplayer, physics-based tower building game. Players have to build a tower with tetrominoes and be faster and better at it than their opponents. To spice things up, players can also use magic spells to either support their own structure or mess up the towers of their opponents. With spells flying everywhere and tetrominoes dropping like flies, Tricky Towers gives players a chaotically good time. Tricky Towers has a number of different game modes to keep you entertained — for now we’d like to discuss the race and survivor modes. In race mode you must build a tower tall enough to reach the finish line before your opponents do. But don’t stop and celebrate too soon — your tower has to remain upright for three seconds before you’ll be crowned as the winner! Survivor mode is all about building a safe, stable tower. Each time you drop tetrominoes your character will lose a life. Lose all your lives and you’re out! Survivor mode is a tricky balance of building to protect your own tower while trying to cast spells that will tumble the towers of your opponents. There are also rumors of the survival world being a tad haunted… We are now working on finishing up the game by creating a single-player campaign, polishing the magic spells and improving the existing multiplayer experience. We have a high standard when it comes to the small details, so we always put a lot of time into polishing up our games. We can’t wait for the game to be released for everyone to play — whether it’s with friends at a party or battling it out against other gamers online. View the full article
