Put aside all the speculations, Treyark has finally revealed the fact that the leaked info about a 3rd DLC, is True! The name of this 3rd installment is ‘Annihilation’ and*adds four exotic multiplayer maps, plus entirely new settings for unrelenting Zombies action.* Call of Duty: Black Ops Annihilation is launching worldwide for Xbox LIVE on June 28th, 2011 at the price of $15.00, and of course…PC / PS3 console owners will have to wait nearly a month before they get their hands on it ;-( The New Maps: Hangar 18: Based in the controversial ‘Area 51′ and coincides w/a few conspiracy theories you’ve heard about. Drive-In: Midium-sized map where all *paths lead either in or around the hangar and some nice sniper-points. Silo: Based on a Russian underground nuclear missile silo. Most likely this is one of the largest maps in the game! Hazard: Gold course-like, caters to the long distance players and snipers will have alot of fun because of it’s advantage being ‘distance-killing’. Zombies Map: I’m liking this version, it’s mostly ‘Daytime’ Zombie-fun! This version takes place in the mysterious land of “Shangri-La,” a legendary shrine lost in an exotic jungle. Never before seen undead creatures lurk within a treacherous labyrinth of underground caverns. Step carefully through deadly traps and solve the dark secrets buried within the shifting walls of a long last land. This is not too surprising though, with the fact that in just two weeks after this DLC is launched we will see the Black Ops Elite set itself in motion.*Well enough of my rambling, here’s a video for you to get all the info you need to know which includes information on the all-new multiplayer maps. Enjoy!: Score: 0 (0 votes cast) More...

This is not going to be a shock to some of you that Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) is coming out this November 8th 2011. But since the release of the trailer-teaser of the game there’s been reports suggesting that once again, Activision will favor the Xbox 360 version ahead of the PS3 not just on game outputage, but on DLC releases as well. I have just read where the upcoming DLC for MW3 (with the game releasing on Nov. 8th 2011) will also be favored for Xbox in advance of the other consoles. It’s also been noted that at the end of the*reveal trailer*for Modern Warfare 3, many saw the Xbox 360 logo with a message telling viewers to pre-order the Xbox 360 version. In fact, there’s NEVER any mention of the PS3 version in initial trailers when the game is being introduced! It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Activision is keeping to it’s previous stance as to which version it considers, their favorite. Now I personally saw the reveal trailer myself and then later went and saw the YouTube version. It’s quite clear that the Xbox 360 logo isn’t anywhere on the reveal trailer on YouTube! Question is: *Was it removed in fear of a PS3 resentment or possible brewing of a ‘boycott’? Inquiring minds would like to know.*Although Actvision and Infinity Ward are yet to announce any sort of console deals for Modern Warfare 3, don’t be surprised if PS3 users end up getting DLC one month later “again and again” ~ much like what happens on Black Ops and seemingly every other Call of Duty game being produced. So, as an owner of both the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles, what do you viewers and readers think about this? There’s obviously some kind of an ‘arrangement’ with Activision and Microsoft to produce games for Xbox consoles, and ‘then’ port versions out to the PC’s and PS3′s. Though I don’t like it, I guess we just have to ‘live with it’. Let me know what YOU think, in replying to this thread… Score: 0 (0 votes cast) More...

Story by Richard Walker @ xbox360achievements.org It looks as though a third Call of Duty: Black Ops map pack could be on the way, if a blurry image leaked and spotted on Black Ops fansite Digital Warfare 24/7 proves to be accurate. It’s unknown as to where the picture originated from, but it clearly shows what looks to be a promotional flyer from GameStop, that’s very similar to the one for the previous Escalation DLC. The image of the flyer, while hazy, certainly looks legitimate depite missing the left part of the leaflet showing the date and title of the pack. However, you can clearly see that if the photo isn’t a fake, that there’s four multiplayer maps and a single zombie one, as has been the case with both previous map packs. These maps are as follows: Hangar 18 Hazard Silo Drive-In New Zombies Map Check out the picture of the alleged promo flyer above, which looks real enough. Still, it could be an elaborate fake, although that does seem a bit of a stretch. Should this prove to be legit – and it could well be the rumoured ‘Retaliation’ map pack. Jimmy Fallon is hosting video game week on his NBC late night talk show and he opened up with developers from Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games to show off Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on Monday’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Activision’s Eric Hirshberg brought along Robert Bowling from Infinity Ward and Glen Schofield from Sledgehammer Games as they all showed up on stage to introduce and sell the latest Call of Duty by noting that Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops were huge sellers in the entertainment industry as both broke records when they were launched. The demo on the show opens up about midway through what was shown during Microsoft’s E3 press conference with players racing across the New York harbor in boats while being chased by Russian forces. After that portion demo was over, Spec Ops mode was loaded up where Fallon engaged in a little bit of Team Killing against actor Simon Pegg before realizing he was facing waves of computer opponents to shoot. Recently a leak to Kotaku suggested that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 would ship without dedicated server support. Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling has told Gamefront that this might not be the case. He says Infinity Ward are “having conversations about dedicated servers, mod tools and post launch support†now, and want to make an effort to reach out to the PC gamers that have left the series since Call of Duty 4. Bowling told Gamefront that Infinity Ward “had some of the [PC] guys come out to the studio a few weeks ago… We brought them here so they can see the stuff we’re showing off. We’re putting a lot of focus there, to make sure that our PC community has all the bells and whistles. So, the guys that have the powerhouse machines, that they can crank it up and enjoy the game.†“I can’t confirm anything yet, but right now we’re having conversations about dedicated servers, mod tools and post launch support… In Modern Warfare 3 we added IWnet, which was all about matchmaking – with the plan to eventually add in dedicated servers. “My ideal philosophy on the PC is to have matchmaking for the mass,†he added. “Have matchmaking for the guys who just want to jump in, hit play game and start playing. But let’s not lose that dedicated core audience that wants the dedicated server experience. “We’re looking at ways to incorporate that into Modern Warfare 3. We’ve been listening a lot to our PC guys who have been very vocal since Modern Warfare 2 about what they want to see come back to our versions of the franchise.†Call of Duty: Black Ops is moving in a similar direction. Turkish police have arrested 32 Anonymous hackers after attacks on government websites, the state-run news agency Anadolu reports. The attacks, says Anonymous, brought down the country’s telecommunications directorate and social security department. Also hit were the Turkish parliament website and the prime minister’s office. There’s little information about the individuals concerned, other than that they were living in 12 different cities. Anonymous says its attacks were a response to the news that the Turkish government planned to introduce an internet filter in the country. “The government now wants to impose a new filtering system on the 22nd of August that will make it possible to keep records of all the people’s internet activity. Though it remains opaque why and how the system will be put in place, it is clear that the government is taking censorship to the next level,” it says in a statement. “These acts are inexcusable. Accessing and participating in the free flow of information is a basic human right. Anonymous will not stand by while the Turkish government violates this right. We will bring our support to circumvent censorship and retaliate against organizations imposing censorship.” On Friday, three alleged members of Anonymous were also arrested in Spain on suspicion of a number of attacks, including the high-profile and long-running attack on Sony. Anonymous responded to that by taking down the national police website. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) More...

Until this point, Battlefield 3 has been running an almost flawless marketing campaign. Great trailer after great trailer had people eating out of the palm of its hand, so much so you voted it your game of E3 2011. Even the fastest hype train can be derailed by a single hiccup, though, and Battlefield 3 just hit its first hiccup. Over the weekend, the “Physical Warfare” pack was revealed by publishers EA (so far it’s only been shown off for the UK market), in which customers pre-ordering the game receive weapons, equipment and ammo that places them at an advantage over customers who don’t put down money early. Sounds harmless, but this being an online, multiplayer shooter with a passionately loyal (and long-standing fanbase), people are understandably upset. This Reddit thread seems to be the tallest lightning rod up at the moment, though in general the internet in its entirety seems unhappy at this. As they should be! EA and DICE tried this once a few years back and were forced to fall on their swords, so it’s interesting seeing them try almost the exact same thing three years later. Perhaps in the hope that everyone would simply…forget how shitty a deal it was. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) More...

Treyarch’s decision of removing quick scoping from the last CoD title – Black Ops didn’t really please fans of the series who had got into a habit of using it to their advantage during multi-player sessions. However, Infinity Ward doesn’t intend to follow on their footsteps and have hinted that the feature might make it to the final build of Modern Warfare 3. IW’s community manager Robert Bowling strongly hinted that quick-scoping might be retained for the title during a AMA (Ask Me Anything) session which he held over at Reddit. “Currently, you can still quick scope in Modern Warfare 3. Keep in mind though, multiplayer is always changing at this stage (new perks, new balancing, new everything all the time based on feedback), however our philosophy on that hasn’t changed since MW2.†This is good news if you’re fan of quick-scoping as it seems they intend on retaining it for Modern Warfare 3. The personal details of thousands of people have been stolen after hackers targeted British games developer Codemasters. The firm described the data theft as “significant” saying names, addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth were all taken on 3 June. However, it said that payment details were not compromised. The latest security breach comes in the midst of a spate of hacker attacks, including several against Sony. Codemasters said it took the compromised website offline as “as soon as the intrusion was detected”. Probe A subsequent investigation revealed that hackers managed to take the personal details of thousands of users, including names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth, passwords, IP addresses, XBox gamer tags, and biographies. In an e-mail sent to some of its customers, the firm advised users to “change any passwords you have associated with other Codemasters accounts. “If you use the same login information for other sites, you should change that information too. “Furthermore, be extra cautious of potential scams, via email, phone, or post that ask you for personal or sensitive information.” A spokesperson for Codemasters told BBC News that they still had no idea who targeted their sites, or how many people had their details compromised, although they said that it would affect tens of thousands of users. Codemasters said its website – codemasters.com – would remain offline “for the foreseeable future” with users being directed to its Facebook page. Brad Langford from Manchester contacted the BBC after receiving an e-mail from Codemasters, warning that his personal details may have been taken. He said: “Sensitive information such as date of birth, and some times postal address are tools to hackers who try and steal identities. “Does a company like Codemasters or any video game company really require such sensitive information? In my opinion – no.” Another Codemasters website user, Leanne Lee from Eastbourne, accused the company of being slow to respond. “I was a little shocked that it took them a week to let us all know and an impersonal e-mail with no follow up on their Facebook group either except a brief post in their discussion board section. “We should have been informed as soon as they had taken down the site,” she said. Following a story that members of Anonymous were arrested by Spanish Police, and the personal details of thousands of people have been stolen after hackers targeted British games developer Codemasters, Gears of War developer Epic Games has become the latest high-profile games industry company to fall victim to a hacking attack, after its website and official forums were recently compromised. In an email to forum members, Epic Games’ founder Tim Sweeney revealed the extent of the security breach, and reassured users that no unencrypted, sensitive data was stolen. However, since encrypted password strings “may have been obtained”, forum passwords could be decrypted using “brute force” techniques. Basically, to be completely safe, you should probably change your Epic forums password if you were using it on any other site. For Epic’s part, it has reset all its forum users’ passwords as a precaution. Here’s the message that was sent out to forum members today – The hackers may have obtained the email addresses and encrypted passwords of forum users. Plaintext passwords weren’t revealed, but it’s possible that those passwords could be obtained by a brute-force attack on the encrypted passwords. Therefore, we have reset all passwords. Your new password at the bottom of this message. The Unreal Developer Network (UDN) hasn’t been compromised. Thankfully, none of our web sites ask for, or store, credit card information or other financial data. We’re sorry for the inconvenience, and appreciate everyone’s patience as we wrestle our servers back under control. So, nothing as serious as recent breaches at Sony and Codemasters, but still an embarrassing episode for a triple-A developer and technology provider like Epic. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) More...

In “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2,” Infinity Ward’s answer to all the demands for co-op play was Spec Ops mode. The mode basically featured a variety of encounters set across sections of the single player game which you could play with another person, with varied objectives like “Get to Point A without being spotted” or “Defend this point using airstrikes for 5 minutes.” It was actually one hell of a fun mode, and it’s returning in “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3″ in the form of Spec Ops Mission. But there’s a new kind of Spec Ops mode in the new game: Survival. Spec Ops Survival is all about, well, survival. You and a buddy can play split screen or online, taking on wave after wave of invading soldiers across every multiplayer map in the game. It’s like Horde mode in “Gears of War 2,” but with one major twist: money. Killing enemies will earn you money which you can spend at computers scattered across the map. These computers let you buy guns and ammo, and you can upgrade the guns you already have, but there’s more than just weaponry. You can also purchase equipment and support. Equipment includes stuff like the Last Stand perk, which lets you revive yourself from being downed if you get a kill with your pistol. Other perks include more armor or placable auto turrets. There’s also air support to purchase. Guided missiles and air strikes are predictable additions, but you can also purchase a Delta Squad, a group of AI-controlled soldiers that fast-ropes down from a Blackhawk chopper to help out in the battle. Many of these upgrades require a certain Spec Ops level, separate from your multiplayer level, which goes up the more you play the mode. Meanwhile your enemies are getting harder and harder after each wave. Pretty soon you’re facing attack dogs with explosives strapped to them and juggernauts with riot shields. It gets pretty hairy pretty fast, but it’s the kind of mode that has the potential to never get old, as you’re constantly trying to beat your best wave. It’s also considerably more friendly to newbies, at least compared to the often harsh Zombies mode of “Black Ops.” Spec Ops Survival is another indication that “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3″ won’t be pulling any punches in this installment. Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer are still keeping true multiplayer close to the vest, but expect more info on that front to be released in the coming months. Modern Warfare 3 is out November 8 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) More...
