[SoW] Lucky_Saint- Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 hey guys i got a snowblower weve had for a year now but its not working. i got gas for it but it just wont start. any ideas other then hitting it? Quote
Crusty_Demons Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 Try the spark plug and air filter first take them out and clean them. Once you get it running again use Sta Bil in the gas it keeps gas fresh for a year. Gas tends to go bad after a few weeks and will leave sediment in carburetors and jets inside the carburetor. Quote

-Rooster- Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 yup...what he said.. flush out the old gas if you can and put fresh in...There will still be old gas in carb. but might work out if its not too bad. Let us know. Quote
[SoW] Lucky_Saint- Posted December 22, 2009 Author Report Posted December 22, 2009 shouldnt be i ran it over the summer to keep it running. worst thing you can do to a machine is not use it Quote
-Rooster- Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 ok cool, So check your plug...you may have just flooded it. Fuel, air, spark..... three things needed for operation. Quote
Prane Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 Ok not to make you sound dumb but two obvious things to check are make sure you have oil and don't forget to prime it. The only other things are what they said. Quote

GOAT Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 what's the engine? a Briggs? snowblowers just like lawnmowers are typically single stroke engines.. there isn't a lot that go wrong. Like was mentioned its usually either the carb or the ignition. I'd change the plug since they are cheap. try shooting some "quick start fluid" in the carb to see if it even fires. If not than check the plug line or see if you are even getting a spark arc or not. IF all that fails then check the compression, not likely you cracked the head or blew a gasket but if you aren't getting good compression then that will let you know if you did. At least repairing a single stroke engine is usually cheaper than a damn tire on a snowblower.. you could rebuild the engine for less money. I had a sears blower that needed a new tire and sears wanted $200 for a fricking tire! you could replace the head gasket, change the plug and rebuild the carb on a briggs for way less than that. p.s. here's an article that may help.. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_could_be_wrong_if_your_snowblower_will_not_start Quote

[RPD]SOA_TBag Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 good thing to use is carb starter fluid, after flushing out the old gas. to check the spark plug pull it out and crank it just once if u have spark it should be good. check the air filter can be clogged by dust from siting. also try and use a hair drier to make shure no water froze in the lines be4 flushing it out.
