Playstation Plus Promo Offer due to PSN down?

Having the Playstation Network down for several days now has frustrated many video game fans. Some have even been demanding that Sony do something such as give away a free video game for everyone's troubles. It appears Sony may be doing something in response to all the trouble, but is it a bad idea?

According to gamrFeed website, Sony is giving online gamers a deal on its PlayStation Plus service. The new promotional offer allows fans to have three extra months tacked onto the normal 12-month subscription. This deal is for the same usual price as a full year's subscription. The special deal will run until May 3rd.

PlayStation Plus is the paid version of PlayStation Network which launched back in June of 2010. Subscribers of this service typically get early access to various content including game demos, betas, and other items of interest. Apparently, there are three-month subscriptions in addition to one-year subscriptions available for purchase. However, right now the PlayStation Plus website gives the scrolling update that the network is currently down.

There's apparently another PS Plus deal in the works too, where Sony may give PlayStation Plus members a free copy of "Red Faction: Battlegrounds." It all sounds like a major bribe on the part of Sony to lure customers into its network. The PSN issue has been going on for five days according to some reports online, and may not be resolved until Tuesday. That's certainly a lot of unwanted downtime for Sony's network and its faithful users. However, something needs to be done or Sony may lose fans fast.

 

With the recent news that Sony Playstation Network is down, will the PlayStation Plus deal be a good enough move by Sony?

They need to give something free!!! Not give us a bargain on something. I don't plan on going to X-box any time soon, but this is still stupid that a couple of geek hackers can down a multi-million dollar company for almost a week.

i think everyone should be given a cash gift into their PSN wallets of say $10 a day that the network is down. Or a free game download of the users choice.

how about cross game chat or video chat? there is so much speculation going around and any little bit of "news" quoting unnamed sources is being picked up and run with by everyone.... kinda crazy.

What does this mean to members of the PSN subject to identity theft? According to a respected forum poster aka Sony insider, after the rebuild and update, features like video chat and cross-game chat is part of the "we're sorry" campaign.

"As we are rebuilding the network, we are taking into consideration in implementing features such as cross game chat and in-game video chat to name a few," the supposed employee said.

Not so fast PS3 players; this information has not been confirmed by Sony Corp. as part of the rebuild. Up to this point, the company only indicated the revamp includes added security features.
