So I was online and found this site which has been my dream for a while now...

TheAngryPharmacist.com

I am sick and tired of people coming into my pharmacy with their stupid reasoning. Oh I can't wait for 15 mins or I need my medication right now or I am going to die bullshit. If anyone of you or wives or gfs.. bfs what ever give people at a pharmacy a hard time. I HATE YOU.

One lady : Calls me and asks me I haven't eaten in a couple of days can I start eating?

Me : What? Why aren't you eating?

Lady: There was a package in the bottle that said do not eat. You know those packets that keep the medication out of moisture?

Me : Yes mam it will be ready at 3..

Lady : O'Clock?

Calling ahead - How hard is it?

By The Angry Pharmacist on February 20, 2009 8:58 AM | Permalink | Comments (52) | TrackBacks (0)

Every retail pharmacist in every pharmacy around the world have dealt with this issue.

Patient comes in to the pharmacy and wants a refill. He has 0 refills left on his medication. You tell him that you need to request refills from the doctor. He gives you a blank stare with the response "but I'm out! <sadface>". Of course he wants his seizure or di-a-beetus medication (that he cannot go without). It can't be something stupid like Zantac or Vicodin.

When it comes to refills and calling ahead, patients fucking fail every single time. I mean the number of refills you have left on the bottle isn't a secret, it says right on the damn container. However patients, being the most retarded creatures on the planet, just don't "get it" that sometimes a little planning ahead goes a long way. Even if you put a big note on the Rx that you must call ahead to get refills they still pull this stunt!

Moreover, this puts pharmacists in a very interesting situation. Technically its illegal for us to fill an Rx that has no refills remaining without a doctors approval. The patient obviously doesn't have his bottles (you think he's going to make it easy for you?) with him, so you can't just put a few in there to last him. You have the following choices:

* Use a typical TAP Response: "Tough shit. I warned you the last 5 times you pulled this shit that you need to call ahead. A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part. Maybe after you seize or end up in the hospital you'll get the simple concept of calling ahead when you have 0 refills remaining. Quit crying, I don't care!"

* Waste the money on your labor, yet another vial, and another label for a whopping 4 tablets to advance him (since you obviously just cant dump tablets in his hands) until you get the OK from the Dr

* Fill the Rx anyways and deal with the doctor if he denies/changes it.

* Run and hide and let your tech deal with it.

Can't say what the right answer is. Obviously for controlled stuff (vicodin, etc) the backlash of filling it without an OK is greater than shit you can justify (BP, diabetes, seizure, etc). I mean really, if a patient has been on the same Tegretol dose for the last 5 years, there is a good chance that the doctor will okay it, however, that's illegal by the letter of the law, but allowing someone to seize because they are a dumbass is ethically not-right.

Breaking the law vs caring for your patient, where do you draw the line?

Aren't you a tech? Your not a Licensed Pharmacist are you? Your in the "people" business. It comes with the territory.

Its like those that enlist in the Marine Corps, and then bitch that they are going to war. What they hell did you sign up for?

You get hired at Burger King and get pissed because you get grease on your shoes.

Get hired at a bakery, and are angry because you have to get up at 3 in the morning to make those donuts.

Everybody hates something about their job. There will always be stupid people. There will be those that don't get up every morning and say to themselves...."how can I make someones job easier today?"

SUCK IT UP AND DO YOUR JOB!!!

WHHHAAAAAAAAA....WWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

;D ;) Just messin with ya dude.

lol dude I've never been to a place where people get harassed this much. Especially the store I am at right now is horrible. It's like people have time to wait 3 hours for a table at olive garden.. or order chinese food but they can't wait a half hour at times or an hour to get their life saving medication?

Dumbest questions..

You don't make it right? Don't you just slap a label on it? Yeah thats why we get paid 50-65 dollars an hour to slap labels on a bottle.

I am a licensed pharmacist.. I started out at cvs as a cashier.. then worked as a tech then intern when going to school now a pharmacist... but I got to say CVS Stocks are good to invest in.. there going international pretty soon! hint hint.

Since your a pharmacist, I don't have any refills left, or a script, but I need a refill on 90 count oxycodone 80 mg. I need that shipped to my home, next day air.

I say you are paid and in buisness to deal with the public (which is your customer)- So embrace the suck my friend.

As far as breaking a law- How many times to people break the law for you to help you out? and is it worth it to you to lose your life over making someone call thier doctor or nurse to get a refill faxed over?

Just my opinions.

Edit I see SEQ said the same thing- I should have read the replys. lol In the end it is cool that their is a site to vent on for folks that put up with that shit all day though.

so i got two refills left on my allergie medicine, do i just call walgreens and ask them to call my docter to approve more refills? just curious, this is my first prescription.

After you get your last refill just call your doctor and have them call it in.

Who do you think is more important? The Pharmacist or Doctor? The Doctors are usually too lazy to call it in or even fax it in. It's pathetic. Half the time they are supposed to be your "care giver" yet the pharmacist is hte one that picks up their mistakes.... It's a joke. It's not easy running a pharmacy compared to mcdonalds or any other place where you get your "occasional" problem customer. But every single one of the hundreds of people that come one day causing problems? Like come on... give me a break.. its not as easy as it looks.

The real question here is...How the hell do you read those prescriptions the doc's write?!! Was there a class just on how to read doctor's writing? lol

You just know what it is most of the time because of the name and strength there aren't a lot of options. But I got to call atleast 15 doctors a day because they screwed up a prescription. Most of the time they over dose on the patients medication.

To hell with the doctor. I just call in a refill on the automated system, and if it requires a doctors authorization, I let the pharmacy do it.

Its called " customer service." :)

Yeah but if your doctor doesn't get back to the pharmacy it isn't my fault lol. Like come on dude don't you worry about your doctor not giving a crap and not taking the time calling in your refill?

Well, most of the time its a narcotic, and I don't feel like calling and begging them. Just let the parmacy do it. LMAO!
