Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what part Kennedy will be playing in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops. It’s great to see that Treyarch is getting plenty of mileage out of JFK. Looks like Treyarch also didn’t spare the expense on settings, this is one diverse looking shooter. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...

This is a SPOILER. Note that it is in all caps. That means I’m really serious about just how spoiler the following information and images are. Don’t want to know? Move along and don’t read this post. Now that that’s done. We knew that a zombie mode was coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops, but weren’t sure exactly how it would be delivered, given the more modern setting of the game this time. Leaked videos of Call of Duty: Black Ops in action seem to show the solution as well as a terrific hook for the shooter’s post-game zombie survival mode. This time around, instead of fighting off Nazi zombies as some nameless soldiers, you can take on the roles of John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Robert McNamara or Fidel Castro as they fight to hold off the hordes in the Pentagon. Seriously! Don’t watch this video if you don’t want to see the wonderful cut scene that kicks off zombie mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...

Posted by Josh Olin // Community Manager, Treyarch Hello! I’m Josh Olin (aka JD_2020), and thank you for the opportunity to highlight some of the features that Call of Duty: Black Ops will deliver to PS3 fans when it launches on November 9th. A number of these features are ones that I think the community has been wanting for a long time, which is why we’ve worked really hard to deliver. So let’s get started! Multiplayer Online Split-Screen Support Let’s get started with what I believe is the most unknown, yet confirmed, aspect to Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer – the online split-screen support we’ve re-introduced to the franchise! The Facts: You can connect a second controller and bring a guest online (i.e. “JD_2020†& “JD_2020(1)â€). Guests can rank up, earn unlocks, etc – all guest progress goes away once signed out. Custom Games Editor Allow me to introduce the Black Ops Custom Games Editor! Private matches have never been this customizable. Players will have the ability to structure their games at all new levels of granularity. From variables as simple as Time Limit and Score Limit, or as deep as which weapons, Perks, and gear are available. You want a Pistols Only match? Make one! No longer do custom game modes rely on the “honor system.†Furthermore, any Custom Game you create and configure can be placed in your File Share, for friends and the community to browse, download, and enjoy. You just might create the most addictive new game mode of all time from the comfort of your own living room! In-Game Friends List We’ve integrated a built-in Friends List into the in game user interface. You’ll be able to browse Recent Players, Friends, navigate their File Shares, Recent Games, Combat Records – all within this in-game menu system designed to streamline the social process within the game. Sending game invites and joining Friends’ games has never been simpler than in Call of Duty: Black Ops. Regional Matchmaking & Party Privacy Call of Duty: Black Ops will support regional matchmaking filters on a global scale. So, no matter where you’re at in the world, you will have the ability to specify whether you want to match with players from other geographical regions, or only those local to you. This will make communication and lag a much less intrusive variable on your gameplay experience. Additionally, given Black Ops will support joining games in progress via an even simpler built-in in-game Friends List interface, we’ll allow a Party leader to lock down his lobby to Invite Only, Friends Only, or even Close it altogether if he wants to be in complete control over who enters and exits the Party Lobby. Emblems Do NOT Reset with Prestige This one is pretty cut-and-dried. A frequently asked question is, “Will my kickass emblem I spent hours perfecting be lost when I prestige?†The answer is “NO!†Emblems are one of the only aspects of Black Ops MP that do not get a full reset upon entering Prestige. Things that will reset when you Prestige are: XP, COD Points, Challenge progressions, Loadouts, and so forth. So that’s just a few of the lesser-known components to Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer, confirmed for the first time here on the official PlayStation.Blog! For more information regarding Black Ops, and all the new features included in multiplayer, head over to our official YouTube channel and watch all the different trailers we have highlighted from the game. Additionally, you can follow me on Twitter (@JD_2020) for more news and updates. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...

GUILDFORD, UK – Oct. 27, 2010 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced that the hit first-person shooter Medal of Honor will further expand its intense multiplayer experience with the release of an all-new multiplayer mode on November 2, 2010. The new mode called Hot Zone features “King of the Hill†gameplay where teams fight over a designated location on a map; the team who holds their position longest prevails. This adrenaline-fueled mode is playable across two all-new maps (Hindukush Pass and Korengal Outpost) as well as redesigned versions of the popular Shahikot Valley and Helmand Valley multiplayer maps. Hot Zone will be available via Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 800 MS points, on PlayStation®Network for £7.99 and on PC exclusively via the EA Store for £7.99. ($10 US) In addition to Hot Zone, EA will also release Clean Sweep on Nov 2 via Xbox LIVE, PSN and PC for free*. Clean Sweep is an elimination mode where players will rely on their own skill and teammates’ expertise to prove victorious. This free mode will also feature two all-new maps (Bagram Hangar and Khyber Caves) as well as redesigned versions of the popular Diwagal Camp and Kabul City Ruins maps. It seems EA has officially learned their lesson about downloadable content and actually adding NEW maps instead of revamping old ones with new modes, much like they did with Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Conveniently releasing a week before Call of Duty: Black Ops with all this new content helps their cause as well. Hopefully, DICE and EA decide to keep adding more maps to Medal of Honor even post-Black Ops release. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...

Posted by Susan Panico // Sr. Director, PlayStation Network Today, we’re excited to share news of the launch of PlayStation Rewards, a new program that recognizes and rewards our users for simply doing what they love – playing games and interacting with the entertainment content that PlayStation has to offer. We really wanted to create something that says, “thank you†for being a loyal PlayStation fan. In its initial launch tomorrow (Oct. 28th), PlayStation Rewards will be an invitation-only beta to all eligible PlayStation Plus and Gamer Advisory Panel (GAP) members. We’re kicking things off as a beta so that we can get feedback from our most loyal fans in order to make it the best possible rewards program it can be. It’s also worth noting that during the beta phase, the program will be focused on PlayStation 3 owners, but we hope to include PSP users as well not too far down the road. Oh, and one more thing: PlayStation Rewards will be free – there is no fee to join! Now, to give you a bit more details on the new loyalty program… PlayStation Rewards is designed to give you the opportunity to gain exclusive status, recognition, and rewards as a thank you for your continued interest in PlayStation. And, the best part is that you don’t have to do anything different. Keep playing new games, buying content purchased from PlayStation Network in the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Home, download movies and TV shows, or just communicate with us by taking one of our surveys, for example, and you’ll now be recognized for it. The more you play and participate, the more progress you’ll make through our three reward tiers — “Select,†“Pro,†and “Legendary.†As your status increases, so do the rewards. And if you want to check out your current status level, simply go to your private profile page and look at the reward progress meter. So what do you get? Right now, rewards include things like… Exclusive PSN avatars that display member status in the program Exclusive dynamic themes and PlayStation Home content Opportunities throughout the program year to participate in members-only sweepstakes and giveaways for experiences and merchandise you won’t find elsewhere (The first of which is an all expenses paid trip to the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, as PlayStation’s guest) That’s just the start and our plan is to continually grow and improve the reward offering as the program itself evolves. Your feedback in this beta period will help make the program even better!! If you’re a GAP member or PlayStation Plus subscriber in the U.S., who is opted-in to marketing as of October 24th, be sure to look for your invitation and sign-up for PlayStation Rewards. To learn more about our new loyalty program, check back tomorrow when the site will be live and the beta forum will be available for all eligible participants. We look forward to showing you our appreciation along the way! Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...

This map is complex, with a variety of landscapes at your disposal. On one side is an industrial complex, with claustrophobic hallways and treacherous catwalks. On the other side is a vast open area, with buildings lining the perimeter, all at the base of a large dam. All of the buildings are connected, and many have multiple floors and complex architecture. No matter what your preferred play-style is, this map will cater to it. Snipers will love the open area by the dam, while Infiltrators and Tacticians will thrive in the winding hallways. Engineers that have upgraded their abilities will find solace in the fact that their turrets will be incredibly effective, no matter what section they’re in. Even with the larger size, the action can get very intense, with huge firefights taking-place at entrance points and in the cramped hallways. Just don’t let the snow-blindness get to you! As announced last week, Blacklight: Tango Down has hit PSN today. Following a launch on Xbox Live Arcade and Games for Windows Live this summer, PSN users are now privy to a fully-updated version of the game, along with exclusive content for PS3. This means, you’ll not only get the shooter’s seven game types and four co-op missions, but the PSN-exclusive Crossover map, taking players into the financial district of the war zone. Also exclusive to this release is the “Join in Progress†feature, which allows players to team up with their friends and enter matches without having to wait for an intermission. That’s still not all though: UTV Ignition Entertainment will also be offering offer players a “free tour of duty†with a downloadable multiplayer demo alongside the title’s release. The game will run you $15, and a sequel is also in the works. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...

SOCOM II was just more SOCOM — which isn’t a bad thing. In fact, it was an awesome thing. Featuring 22 multiplayer maps, including 12 brand new levels and 10 from the original game, SOCOM II is last gen’s online gaming dirty little secret; it could be argued that it provided a bigger, badder online shooter offering to PS2 fans than anything on Xbox Live, which is downright impressive. While the single-player was a bit overly brutal, the community that Zipper built around SOCOM II set an example that developers still struggle to meet even seven years later. SOCOM II was so good that some vocal fans have taken to demanding that it see an HD re-release on the PSN. Also, did we mention that Navy SEALS are awesome? Because Navy SEALS are totally awesome, even if there’s no Michael Biehn or Charlie Sheen to be found. Check out Socom II plus the other 99 Top PS2 Games on IGN’s list here.
