  1. Here at Sony Interactive Entertainment, we’re excited to announce that we’ve partnered with RCA Records to release a full album for upcoming PS4 game Death Stranding. Timefall (Original Music From the World of Death Stranding) is named for the mysterious rainfall that affects all it touches, while its songs find their inspiration in the game’s narrative focus: Sam Bridges and his journey to reconnect a fractured society and save mankind from extinction. SIE and Kojima Productions set out to find artists in many different genres whose music evoked some of the key thematic elements in Death Stranding. Each artist on Timefall spent time with the team at SIE, interacting with the game’s story and vibe, coming up with their own unique takes on connection, love, loss, and rebirth. Today, you can hear the first of these, from renowned Scottish anthemic electro-pop group CHVRCHES. After spending time with Mr. Kojima at Kojima Productions in Tokyo, the band were inspired to write an original song. We’re thrilled to share it with you, the first of several hits to come. If you haven’t yet, listen to CHVRCHES’ song “Death Stranding” here. The album cover hones in on the mystery of the sci-fi, action-adventure game. Take a look below. “Death Stranding” is only the first of a full set of original songs by notable musicians from a wide range of genres. Each track from Timefall is inspired by the message and world of Death Stranding. See who’s featured on the official artist roster: “Trigger” Major Lazer x Khalid “Ghost” Au/Ra x Alan Walker “Death Stranding” CHVRCHES “YELLOW BOX” The Neighbourhood “Meanwhile…In Genova” The S.L.P. “Ludens” Bring Me the Horizon “Born in The Slumber” Flora Cash “Sing to Me” MISSIO You can get the digital album by purchasing the Death Stranding Special Edition ($69.99 USD MSRP/ $89.99 CAD MSRP) or the Death Stranding Collector’s Edition ($199.99 USD MSRP / $249.99 CAD MSRP). Pre-order either edition now. In the meantime, keep a watchful eye on all of our official channels for more details around Death Stranding and Timefall (Original Music from the World of Death Stranding) as we get closer to the game’s November 8 launch date. As always, tomorrow is in your hands. View the full article

  5. Hello everyone. This is Lance Hoke, the Lead Producer for ReadySet Heroes. Here at Robot, we set out to make a game that was easy to pick up and play with your family and friends. With the game releasing tomorrow, we figured now would be a good time to give you an overview of the different ways you can play and other tidbits about the game. Brawl with Friends or Crawl Solo? For those looking for a bit of casual competition, we feature an eight-minute dungeon crawl and a boss fight, followed by an all-out two-minute Brawl to determine the winner. It’s a lot of fun packed in just 10 minutes! This is a great way to play with your friends or family on the couch, and it’s accessible for all skill levels. We also have a mode that is a fantastic single player or local co-op game that challenges you (or your friends) to run the gauntlet! You’ll work your way through 30 increasingly difficult levels until you defeat the final boss. Local and Online? What’s great about ReadySet Heroes is that we give players choice on how they want to play. If you want to play offline Tower Crawl or split-screen multiplayer with your friends, then you can play local, without ever having to login online. Connect a few controllers and you’re all set for some frantic local multiplayer gaming! ReadySet Heroes supports up to 2-4 friends, so grab your best buds, or your rival siblings and battle it out! If your friends are all at home, jump online and play with the rest of the ReadySet community*. You can match into a team game where you’ll be partnered up with a random player or play in free-for-all where you can go lone wolf against others online. ReadySet Heroes is cross-play, so you’ll be playing with both PlayStation and PC players. Slow and Steady or Fast and ”Fur”ious? How you approach the Crawl is up to you. Whether you sprint to the finish to beat the opposing team, or if you take your time shard gathering (gotta get those skill points!) Here are some tips to get the most out of your playthrough: With the Dungeon Crawl only being eight minutes long, you’ll need to decide how you’re going to use that time to prepare yourself for the Brawl against the players at the end. One approach is to search every inch of the levels for mobs to defeat and barrels to open. Every shard you collect increases your skills (Armor, Attack, Speed, Defense, and Magic). You’ll also be more likely to find the Spell Vendor that can cast meteor storms, blizzards, and other spells against the other teams. Being thorough is also a good way to unlock challenges quicker and learn the levels for future runs. Another approach is to rush through the levels as fast as possible. Fight when necessary and grab easily accessible shards, but don’t linger. Each level gives you a treasure chest (we call this Treasure Time). Inside the chest you’ll get two new items (armor, weapons, gear, or spells). The more of these chests you open, the more chances you have at getting better loot and loadout options. Bosses — Fight Now? Or Later? Bosses are the final level before the Brawl, but you can skip right to them starting about halfway through the Crawl. Defeating the boss gives you a boss chest and a huge loot drop of shards, plus each Boss chest gives you a better chance of scoring some Epic and Legendary loot. The tricky part is deciding the best time to go after the boss. If you challenge before you’re ready, you might spend too much time defeating them or get wiped and sent back to the Crawl. If you manage to defeat the boss, the Crawl will end early, reducing the timer to 20 seconds for everyone in the game. This can really put the pressure on the other teams. Our lead designer Kyle Snyder wrote a blog post detailing some of our Bosses and Brawls. I hope you all enjoy ReadySet Heroes tomorrow when it launches. We are already hard at work to support the game and its community with additional content, including free maps, in the months to come. I look forward to seeing you on the crawl… let the battle commence! *Internet connection and PlayStation Plus membership (sold separately) required for online multiplayer. View the full article

  12. Hello, Slayers! Today we’re talking about Dauntless’ next (and biggest!) update: Aether Unbound. This massive patch features a ton of great content. It also coincides with Dauntless leaving early access and going full 1.0. We’re big on feedback at Phoenix Labs so we can’t wait to hear your thoughts! Aether Unbound heralds the arrival of a fearsome new Behemoth, Tempestborne Stormclaw. This particularly nasty version of Stormclaw boasts shocking (pun intended) new attacks that will challenge even the most veteran of Slayers. Deadly storm clouds, lightning attacks, and electric traps that restrict the battlefield are just a few of the weapons in its varied arsenal. To help combat this savage threat a new ally called the Scarred Master has arrived in Ramsgate. She brings with her a powerful new weapon: the aether strikers. The strikers are a fast-paced, up-close, personal weapon, and they feature some new systems that are among our deepest and most rewarding yet. On the surface, aether strikers may appear to be mere gauntlets, but make no mistake: The strikers turn Slayers into living weapons. As you dish out damage and perform specific combos, you’ll charge up Mantras. Every time you charge a Mantra you’ll get access to the Surge attack — a dashing punch that allows a Slayer to pass through their target and reposition themselves in the heat of battle. Consuming Mantras in the heat of combat will allow you to perform different techniques, such as Tempest Form, Karma Breaker, and my personal favorite, Adamant Bolt. This mighty attack unleashes a powerful blast of energy that consumes all your Mantras and gains bonus damage for keeping all your other Techniques active. To maximize your damage output you’ll have to manage your combat resources extremely carefully! Aether Unbound also marks the release of our latest Hunt Pass: Way of the Fist. Inspired by the Scarred Master and her disciples, Way of the Fist provides Slayers with 50 levels of unlockable content and cosmetic rewards. This Hunt Pass also features our first upgradeable armour set, one that levels up as you complete your Hunt Pass. Slayers can earn experience points for their Hunt Pass by gathering collectibles in the city and completing bounties acquired through Dauntless’ new Bounty system. Bounties are a new way to slay — providing Slayer with flexible challenges that they get to choose. 14. Ellie’s story continues in The Last of Us Part II, and I had a lucky opportunity to reunite with her at a recent hands-on preview event. The demo revealed copious gameplay details, from Ellie’s improved mobility to new threats ranging from guard dogs to new evolutions of the infected. It also yielded a peek at the stunning visual enhancements Naughty Dog brings to the anticipated follow-up. The early portion of the demo features heartfelt story moments between Ellie and her companion, Dina. Ellie was already a multifaceted protagonist in the previous game, but she’s now nineteen and her age shows in the depth of her character. She and Dina exchange playful teases, search each other’s eyes for signals, and dance around the topic of former lovers. My favorite moment between the two occurs when they enjoy a beautiful view of the Wyoming wilderness, and Ellie quietly curses to herself when she realizes she flubbed an opportunity to make a move. Moments like these showcase Ellie’s tenderness and vulnerability, and remind us of the little girl Joel fought to protect. The second half of the demo further showcases Ellie’s violent side, and the lengths she’ll go to exact justice on those who hurt her loved ones. She faces a group of xenophobic survivors in Seattle who have captured Joel’s brother, Tommy. Ellie ventures into enemy territory to rescue him. Naughty Dog has gone through great lengths to convey that these enemies are people with lives and loved ones, not one-dimensional threats. Normally, sniping an enemy with a bow and arrow from considerable distance would come with some pride and relief. In The Last of Us Part II, it might be met by the shrieks of your victim’s loved ones yelling the deceased’s name in grief. Violence is sometimes necessary to survive and endure in this world, but it constantly weighed on my conscience. Read on for an overview of the hands-on demo’s content and key gameplay details: ● Patrol – The first section of the preview I played was set within the snowy, abandoned towns surrounding the survivors’ hometown of Jackson, Wyoming. Snow crunches satisfyingly underfoot and fierce winds make patterns across its surface. ● A Day in Ellie’s Life – Ellie’s main job is to patrol the area surrounding Jackson. Early in the game she rides horseback through the shattered, abandoned buildings in the wooded expanse, where she and Dina check for signs of deadly infected, dangerous marauders, or survivors. ● Suburbs – The second section takes place in what remains of Seattle, Washington’s Hillcrest neighborhood. The series’ iconic overgrown aesthetic is well represented with lush, green tree canopies shading a broken town road. Impressively rendered mist hangs heavily over the area and completes its authentic Pacific Northwest atmosphere. ● Meticulous Detail – Naughty Dog elevates the visual fidelity of this grounded world to new heights. Your horse’s muscles flex and jiggle as it gallops. Tall grass ripples and tree bows flex with the wind. Ellie contorts her face in intense focus as she silently takes down enemies. Upgrading weapons at a workbench rewards you with strikingly detailed animations like swapping out a shotgun’s magazine. The authenticity is astounding. ● Jump – Ellie is more limber than Joel ever was. Players can now jump to reach higher vantage points or cross small gaps. Don’t expect to pounce hapless victims like an assassin, but look forward to expanded freedom and new opportunities for traversal. ● Dodge – One of Ellie’s most potent new abilities allows her to dodge incoming close-quarters attacks. Step out of the way of survivors’ axe swings or slashing Runners with a quick button tap. Dodging was especially handy when evading surprise Stalker attacks. The new feature feels satisfyingly empowering, but also necessary considering how enemies seem smarter and harder to predict. ● Crawl – Hit the deck! Ellie can now drop to the ground by holding Circle. This is useful for quickly breaking line of sight with enemies, crawling through small passages, or keeping a low profile. The latter stealthy application is invaluable. Slinking through tall grass to get the drop on passing enemies and evading pursuers is critical with The Last of Us Part II’s new analog stealth system. Hiding yourself in plain sight among the tallgrass is simultaneously liberating and harrowing, as blowing your cover could mean being fully exposed. ● Guard Dogs – …but don’t get too comfortable crawling through the grass. Trained guard dogs are on patrol, which can follow your scent and chew up your well-laid plans. Activate Listen Mode to see your scent trail. Be careful when you take out a dog’s handler, though, because solo canines are difficult to spot in the tall grass without their master walking next to them. Getting jumped by a dog is not only nerve-racking and dangerous, it presents players with the moral choice of whether they flee or take it out. Naughty Dog confirms that you don’t have to kill these animals to progress, and personally… based on my heavy heart following the demo you’re better off evading them. Ellie confronts a Clicker. ● New Infected Revealed – Shamblers are horrifying, walking pustule-clusters that spray gaseous acid when they get near you and take a ton of damage. Once defeated, these festering threats explode with violent force. They’re faster than they look and are awful to look at. Proceed with caution. ● Expanded Abilities – Supplements can still be collected to unlock abilities. New to The Last of Us Part II, players can choose from multiple skill upgrade paths to customize Ellie to their playstyle and we got to see just some of these in action. Survival focuses on improving health, expanding Listen Mode’s range, and throw distance. Crafting lets her create melee upgrades, add smoke to stun bombs, and increase her crafting speed. Stealth improves prone movement speed, speeds up stealth kills, and unlocks pistol silencers. I love the newfound choice to evolve Ellie’s capabilities to my playstyle (Stealth worked great for me!) ● Silencers – Canisters are a new crafting material that let Ellie attach handmade suppressors to her semi-automatic pistol. This makes her next three shots dead silent, expanding Ellie’s strategic options in the field. As a stealth-focused player, I found great relief upgrading my silencer’s durability. This hard-hitting sequel takes the core gameplay of the original and expands players’ tactical options at every turn. New threats and smarter enemies elevate the challenge to meet Ellie’s enhanced range of abilities, so you’ll need to learn new tricks to survive in an unforgiving world. The weight of my violent actions in the demo stuck with me just as long as my awe at the jaw-dropping world Naughty Dog is creating. Discover what the future holds for an older, wiser, and more dangerous Ellie when The Last of Us Part II comes to PS4 and PS4 Pro February 21, 2020. View the full article
  15. In today’s Gran Turismo Sport update, we have some classic sports cars from the 70s including an old and new example of Chevrolet engineering. Rain has also been added to the Central and East loops of the Tokyo Expressway creating some new challenges in this scenic city track. The update is available for everyone to enjoy starting from today. If you missed the news earlier this month, I am also pleased to announce our partnership with Michelin as the official tire technology partner for Gran Turismo. As such, you will find a wealth of new Michelin related content in brand central and throughout the game. We also announced an exciting collaboration with Porsche, which will bring the Taycan Turbo S to Gran Turismo Sport as free DLC by October! We also confirmed the 971 Living Legend will be coming next year, as well as Porsche designing a Vision Gran Turismo car. New Vehicles In total, four new vehicles will be available: Chevrolet Corvette StingRay Racer Concept ’59 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE Package ’18 Ferrari 365 GTB4 ʼ71 Dodge Super Bee ’70 Featured Vehicle: Chevrolet Corvette StingRay Racer Concept ’59 (Gr.X) Debuting in 1953, the first generation Chevrolet Corvette would go on to win numerous trophies in the world of racing. The next step was the development of the Corvette SS race car which debuted in 1957, a project led by Zora Duntov — the man often dubbed ‘the father of the Corvette.’ While aesthetically similar to the base Corvette, the underpinnings of the SS were completely different. Designed for use in racing, it featured a shortened tubular frame upon which was mounted a 302 BHP fuel-injected 283 engine, and the car achieved a top speed of 181.4 mph in testing. However in the same year those plans were scrapped after the American Automobile Manufacturers Association (AMA) agreed to ban the direct participation of manufacturers in racing, following a number of accidents in NASCAR and other motor sporting events. There was a successor to the SS though, in the form of the StingRay Racer. The car inherited the frame and body covering the engine, almost as is, from the Corvette SS. The final car, created by the newly appointed GM Styling department Chief, Bill Mitchell, and designer Larry Shinoda, also borrowed styling elements from a blackballed next-generation Corvette prototype. This StingRay Racer entered a variety of races as a private personal race car of Bill Mitchell, and won two consecutive SCCA Class C modified titles for 1959 and 1960. Its styling also had great influence on the design of the 2nd generation Corvette which appeared in 1963. New Weather conditions An option for rain weather condition has been added to the Tokyo Expressway — Central and East Loop track. GT League Seven new rounds have been added to the GT league. 16. Eat or be eaten — the world of Code Vein is harsh and unforgiving. As a Revenant, you’re able to choose different Blood Codes, Blood Veils, Gifts, and weapons in a myriad of combos that give you distinct advantages in battle. Add strategic attacks and coordination with your partner into the mix, and you have an endless number of options to explore in your battle strategy. Not quite sure where to begin in your fight for survival? Don’t worry — we’re giving you some helpful tips to use on your impending journey. Secret Codes Throughout the Code Vein experience, there is a considerable amount of branching paths with hidden areas to explore. Keep a close eye out for those sparkling item identifiers in the field or markers on your mini map. They could be Vestiges — fragments of Blood Codes — that can be used to unlock memories and Gifts. Some gifts require multiple Vestiges to unlock, so be on the lookout. If you’re having trouble, there are also specific Gifts that can help identify items in a larger vicinity. “Rez me!” In Code Vein, there is no shame in dying. Dying is a great way of trying out different skills and tactics to overcome difficult situations. Having a partner with you in your adventures is a great asset, as they have the ability to resurrect you within a short window after losing all your health, just as you can for them; but just like you, their ability to revive you also has a cooldown. When fighting bosses or mobs, it’s imperative to pay close attention to your partner’s icon since it will indicate if they can revive you again. If they’re still in a cooldown phase, it might be best to back away and take things carefully until your partner can cast once more. Prepare for the Next Battle Prior to entering a fight with a boss, certain preparations can be made to give you an extra advantage at the beginning of battle. Prior to entering the field and triggering the boss fight, examine which buff gifts would be advantageous for you fight such as additional fortification or elemental weapon enhancements. Though they begin to deplete from the moment you cast, they will be active as you enter your fight, giving you a chance to play aggressively from the start. Additionally, if you can strike your foe with a Drain Attack first, you can get two additional Ichor stock from the get-go, giving you additional flexibility with more casting opportunities during your battle. The Definition of Insanity There’s an old saying that the definition of insanity is repeating the same actions yet expecting a different outcome. Throughout the game, there are many points where you may hit a difficulty wall. Due to the fact that you can effectively change your character class via your Blood Code at any time, it’s in your best interest to change things up from time to time and see if you have better success. Changing your Blood Code (or class) can affect your strength, speed, proficiency in Gift types, base Ichor stock, and the like. Additionally, you can change your partner NPC, weapon, Gift Set, and Blood Veil, all of which can be exactly what you need to take down that formidable foe. Give it a shot; what’s the worst that can happen? Sweet Relief To relieve yourself of your ailments, you have a couple options. Using a consumable is a quick way to rid yourself of a status change, though it comes at a cost to purchase from the shop. Additionally, a consumable will only remove the status from yourself, leaving your partner unaffected. Alternatively, you can use the correct Blood Code with the appropriate Gift to remove the status. Just like Gifts that buff your character, Gifts that remove status ailments will cast on both you and your partner character. Remember these tips and tricks to gain a strong edge in your battles against the Lost. The beginning of your journey is nearly here, and we’re excited for you to take on the formidable challenges in Code Vein! View the full article

DayZ’s second official map, Livonia, will be available to purchase soon on PS4, and is showcased in our new trailer. Based on the recently released map from the Arma 3 Contact spin-off expansion, the Livonia region brings a fresh new experience to the post-apocalyptic world of DayZ. With vast green landscapes, dense expansive forests, serene lakes, and winding rivers, the 163km2 Livonia map offers the perfect backdrop for any survivor lost in the wild. The landscape, however, won’t be the only change of pace for DayZ players. The temperate late summer climate of Livonia will bring frequent rainfall and thunderstorms, providing players with additional environmental challenges during their travels – and making protective gear and shelter more important than ever. And, of course, with a new wilderness comes new wildlife. Most prominently, there is a new predator roaming the forests of Livonia – bears! – and they won’t take kindly to human-shaped threats. Survivors will have to be well-equipped to effectively deal with these grizzly foes. Arriving in tandem with the 1.06 update, the new map will be premium DLC and bring hundreds of new assets for the community to make use of – assets which will be available to everyone for free without the purchase of the Livonia map.Whether you plan to embrace this new challenge of survival with allies or face it as a lone wolf, the picturesque-yet-unforgiving backdrop of Livonia awaits you soon on PS4. The shifting sands of the Valencia region hold many secrets to explore and adventures to complete — so to help prepare you, we’ve detailed some tips and information on what to expect! The desert kingdom of Valencia brings withering sandstorms that can be deadly if you’re not prepared. Once a unique quest is completed at Level 56, each character’s can be awakened and have their combat prowess permanently boosted, unlocking new skills and weapons for use on the battlefield. Speaking of character classes, we’re adding two new options for players to choose from for their adventure to become their true self. Lahn and Ninja bring a high-level of agility and precision to master on the battlefield: Lahn: Lahn is extremely agile, with the unprecedented ability to leap and glide through the air over long distances. Combined with the flexibility of her Crescent Pendulum, whether she’s facing enemies head on or raining death from above, she is truly a force to be reckoned with. Ninja: Ninja is a high-skill fighter that excels in agility, using dashes, aerial skills and teleportation to rapidly close the distance to enemies. With the ability to conceal his presence, the Ninja can lie in wait before delivering precise, deadly strikes against his opponent. The kingdom of Valencia has a violent past, one which introduces new gameplay elements for players. Adventurers who kill another player within the region will receive a villain mark regardless of their current Karma, and will be treated as a hostile by other players. Once killed, murderers will be sent to Pila Ku Prison to serve out their time and gain de-buffs. If you look carefully, though, an escape route is rumored to exist… We’re excited to see all of you exploring the new content added today to Black Desert! View the full article

  21. The underlying idea behind the artistic concept of Stardust Odyssey was to avoid a conventional, hard sci-fi universe. The aim was to create an 80’s-style, French sci-fi universe inspired by the likes of Mœbius and Jean-Claude Mezières, leaning more towards a world of fantasy based on magic and not industrial, advanced technology. We wanted to create a world where you would steer ships filled with ornaments and items made of primitive materials, such as wood, stone, leather and gold, floating through space with their wind-filled sails. The idea was to create a warmer feeling for the players, in contrast to the cold, futuristic materials and minimal design often found in sci-fi games. The second key element behind the game’s artistic concept was to come up with an original, exotic sci-fi look, taking inspiration from ethnic oriental cultures. The game’s main source of reference is the Silk Road and its convoys of merchants constantly travelling across land and sea to trade their merchandise; the middle-eastern civilizations of nomad clans and ethnic groups like the Berbers. Choosing the Silk Road as a reference point meant inviting players to travel through two types of environments and atmospheres: deserts and seas. Instead of flying through space, our ships, designed like boats with sails, would float above a sea of clouds. With the constant presence of sand covering the hulls and cabins also referring to the idea of stardust. Even though “nomadic life” was the central inspiration for the design, the environment needed to include some “sedentary lifestyle” aspects, such as buildings and architecture, away from the convoys. These are like unreachable areas in the background, setting the scene for anchoring points where the constantly-traveling merchants could dock. So, we designed homes such as seaside villages with ports and lighthouses that could fit in any type of landscape, along dunes or cliffs, in order to give extra life to the settings and add to the allure of the game. One of the main constraints was varying the rhythm, having two paces of gameplay. Since the main gameplay involves sailing through convoys in an open view environment, we chose to establish the meta game in a cosy, more sheltered space. For example, a snug tent providing a different sense of space, where you can rest and sit face to face with the other characters. More Images from Stardust Odyssey We also decided to represent both dangerous and harmless types of animals in the game. So, there are wild creatures in the form of parasites that attack the cargoes and players, but also domesticated animals, which are an essential part of nomadic tribes’ lives, helping to carry belongings. Like oxen, the domesticated animals needed to be large, strong creatures, the size of a small ship, in order to tow large cargoes. Moreover, to fit with the underlying theme of the artistic concept, they had to be based on marine life forms, so we decided to create a whale-like creature to carry heavy cargoes. As a small independent studio, we had to take on several roles. So, as a concept artist and head of the game’s aesthetics, I was also in charge of supervising the Sound Design and the coherence between the Artistic Environment and the Music. The musical compositions had to convey the classic, orchestral, epic feel of a fantasy adventure, based on the standard structure of western music but with a hint of oriental influence using exotic instruments. We wanted to offer something fresh, an original VR game, and I think we did it! 22. You’ve asked on our livestreams. You’ve asked in our forums. You’ve even asked our artists on Twitter. You’ve asked so many times that our Community Manager wakes up in cold sweats. Now, the time has finally come for us to answer. Free Lives, along with Devolver Digital, are excited to announce that Gorn will arrive on PS VR in Winter 2019. We’re working with the formidable team at 24Bit Games to bring the best possible version of the game to the platform. If you’re new to Gorn, here’s what you need to know. Gorn is a ludicrously violent VR gladiator simulator featuring a unique, fully physics-driven combat engine. It gives players the freedom to execute their most violent gladiatorial fantasies. Gorn is designed around intuitive gameplay, making it one of the best games for first time VR players. If you think you can smash it or bash it or throw it, you probably can. The game is intended to be as ‘pick up and play’ as possible. It’s this intuitive design — along with hilarious, over-the-top, action packed gameplay — that has made Gorn a VR staple. There are many different ways to play Gorn, and discovering new tricks and techniques can be some of the most fun in the game. Players progress through levels of the prison cell, fighting the Emperor’s champions along the way. The game culminates in an epic final battle that puts your wits and reflexes to the test. Gorn also features a custom arena, where you can tweak the parameters of the fight. Adjust the power of gravity, your size, the size of your enemies, or the amount of armor they wear. You can even battle skeletons by adjusting the ‘spooky’ setting. To ensure that gore averse players can also enjoy the game, Gorn includes a Piñata mode that turns gladiators into colorful, candy stuffed enemies. We can’t wait to see your ridiculous combos and brutal hits when Gorn releases on PS VR later this year. Thank you to the PlayStation team and community for your interest in our game. We look forward to sharing it with you. In an alternate 1980s, the age of decadence and delight, humanity started experimenting with a new type of designer drug to elevate the human potential beyond known limits. Meanwhile, the planet suffered: climate change ran hot and cold to extremes, resulting in a new ice age. To cope with the cold, people only consumed more drugs. This led to horrible mutations – the deadly Snowbreed. Now, 20 years later, Los Angeles lies in ruins and survivors are clinging to life in a frozen city roaming with mutated terrors. In your fight for survival you’ll wield a wide variety of weapons. Will you rush to the frontlines with your electrified knuckleduster and custom handgun ready to take down hordes of Snowbreed? Or would you rather stay back and use your hunting rifle with explosive ammo to take down the hulking brutes? It’s up to you. On top of this, you’ll unleash devastating attacks using crafted devices, such as a volley of missiles from a wrist-mounted ‘80s walkman-turned-rocket launcher. Crafting and customizing weapons and gear requires resources and blueprints found throughout the world, which you’ll take back to your basecamp for use. Speaking of basecamp; this is a shared hub where you’ll run into other players from all over the world, hang out and interact with them in VR, form a party of up to four players to go on new missions, and more. But you can also play the game by yourself – the difficulty will scale accordingly. Though I personally feel playing with friends is more fun, especially in VR! While our previous foray into VR shooting, Arizona Sunshine, is a somewhat slower paced survival experience, After The Fall is all about adrenaline-pumping action. It’s slated for release in 2020, and I can’t wait for you folks to play it. We’ll be back at PS Blog with more announcements soon – in the meantime, scavenge www.afterthefall-vr.com to learn more! 25. Today’s State of Play broadcast marked the long-awaited return of Wattam, a whimsical, wonderful world that springs from the mind of Keita Takahashi, famous for his work on Katamari Damacy and Noby Noby Boy. With Wattam’s release date slated for December, the Blog team emailed the famed developer to learn more about his latest creation. Read our full Q&A below. PlayStation.Blog: What is the most important rule you’ve tried to abide by while creating Wattam? KT: I am not sure if I have any specific rules of game development. But I might have similar thing. Now I have two kids, and taking care of them is sometimes harder than game development. When I was working at Namco, I had been working from 10am to 10pm every day. But I can’t do that now. I have to help my wife as much as possible. Of course, I have talked about game and design with the team a lot, but I didn’t have any time besides making Wattam at the office. So I had been eating lunch while working on my desk. But anyway, I am not a person who likes to talk a lot, haha. PSB: What is the goal you’re trying to achieve with the final product? KT: Same as usual, I just wanted to make the game I have never played before. PSB: In a brief way, can you describe how to play Wattam? KT: Turn on the PS4 or PS4 Pro, grab the controller, buy/download Wattam (thanks) and hit button to start the game. PSB: What has changed since you first shipped Katamari Damacy way back in 2004? KT: I don’t think I have not been changing anything myself, besides that I have a family and also gaining weight, but this world has been changing a lot in bad way unfortunately. I’m sad, and thinking what the videogame can do for it… PSB: What’s one lesson you’ve learned about game development since Katamari Damacy that you would recommend to newer or aspiring creators? KT: Trust your team, but sometimes you need to fight with them for making good games. Believe yourself and your ideas, but you always have to doubt yourself and your idea to make good games. PSB: The games you’ve released to date have embraced absurdity as a theme, but they always feel incredibly pure and welcoming. How do you make a game like Wattam weird without running the risk of alienating players? KT: It’s a difficult question to answer correctly because I have never had that sense of the risk of alienating players in my game dev life, haha. Maybe I am a just selfish designer who doesn’t care about players. Sorry. PSB: What emotions do you hope players feel while playing Wattam? How do you create situations in the game to evoke those emotions? KT: I hope just having a fun time even if you saw some glitches. Wattam is a kinda narrative-based game more than you expected, so if I said something, it might be a spoiler:) PSB: If you could remake any game from PlayStation history as a different genre, which game and genre would you choose? How do you think that game would play? KT: I would say ICO. I want to swap a boy for a girl.
