  1. Since we originally unveiled our next-generation console in April, we know that there’s been a lot of excitement and interest in hearing more about what the future of games will bring. Today I’m proud to share that our next-generation console will be called PlayStation 5, and we’ll be launching in time for Holiday 2020. These updates may not be a huge surprise, but we wanted to confirm them for our PlayStation fans, as we start to reveal additional details about our vision for the next generation. WIRED magazine covered these updates and more in a story that posted this morning. The “more” refers to something I’m quite excited about – a preview of the new controller that will ship with PlayStation 5. One of our goals with the next generation is to deepen the feeling of immersion when you play games, and we had the opportunity with our new controller to reimagine how the sense of touch can add to that immersion. To that end, there are two key innovations with the PlayStation 5’s new controller. First, we’re adopting haptic feedback to replace the “rumble” technology found in controllers since the 5th generation of consoles. With haptics, you truly feel a broader range of feedback, so crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field. You can even get a sense for a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud. The second innovation is something we call adaptive triggers, which have been incorporated into the trigger buttons (L2/R2). Developers can program the resistance of the triggers so that you feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain. In combination with the haptics, this can produce a powerful experience that better simulates various actions. Game creators have started to receive early versions of the new controller, and we can’t wait to see where their imagination goes with these new features at their disposal. While there’s much more to share about PlayStation 5 in the year ahead, we have plenty of blockbuster experiences coming your way on PS4, including Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part II, and Ghost of Tsushima. I’d like to thank all PlayStation fans for continuing the journey with us, as we embark on the future of games. View the full article
  2. Hey. It’s me again, Justin Roiland, co-creator of Rick and Morty and co-founder of Squanch Games. Man. A lot has happened since we last spoke. I got a free sample of granola at the grocery store, got some other free samples of food, I found a cool flat rock, and my game, Trover Saves The Universe, came out. A lot of people liked it (I hate it JK) and what’s not to like? You get to travel the universe with Trover to save your dogs from a beaked monster. You fight and platform across insane levels, and meet crazy ass alien characters! I mean, this game has it all! It’s like the glendale shopping center of video games! And now we’re releasing the DLC, Important Cosmic Jobs, for FREE! You’ll get to explore Trover’s workplace, meet his weirdo colleagues, and deal with his insane bosses. It’ll be just like real life! Only less depressing! And FREE! And less depressing! You’ll also get to collect new power babies, watch original sketches, and play Space Slam. You don’t know what that is, so I don’t know why I’m mentioning it, BUT IT’S FREE! All of it’s free! Hours of new content for FREE! FREE! FREE! (unless you don’t own the game, in that case you’d have to buy the base game and then this DLC would be FREE!!) I can’t believe we did this for free. What was I thinking?! How are we supposed to make more games if we don’t tap any kind of revenue stream. This was a huge mistake. I based the whole marketing campaign on free food samples though, so I feel good about that at least. Please! You have to buy Trover Saves The Universe! There’s no point in you saving your money! It’ll even be 15% off at PS Store starting tomorrow, so you have no excuse! The world will end in 2030! All infrastructures will collapse. Society as we know it will no longer exist. Bartering games and seeds will be the only way to conduct commerce! So spend your money now! Buy my game, and play the free DLC tomorrow! It’s going to go up in value when society collapses! Pretty sure! I could be wrong about that though! I’m just unsure about it. Thanks! View the full article

  7. Happy Friday PlayStation Nation! Did you hear the big news out of the Marvel Games panel at New York Comic Con? Crystal Dynamics is ecstatic to round out the Marvel’s Avengers roster with the inclusion of New Jersey teenager Kamala Khan. Better known under the mantle of Ms. Marvel, Kamala joins the team as a pivotal catalyst to the original story our team is telling. Co-created by G. Willow Wilson, Adrian Alphona, Sana Amanat, and Stephen Wacker, Kamala is the Pakistani-American teenager who defends her hometown Jersey City as the costumed Ms. Marvel. If you want to read up about Kamala Khan, she made her first appearance via Captain Marvel #14 in August 2013. Winning over the hearts of comic fans around the world, Kamala headlined her own monthly comic series starting in February of 2014. You can read her current ongoing monthly series as well. While we teased young Kamala in our A-Day Prologue Gameplay Footage, (remember the little girl who stumbles on the deck of the Helicarrier?) we felt it important to keep her full role in the game secret until now. We were waiting for just the right moment to reveal her, and talk more about her narrative arc in the aftermath of A-Day. Shaun Escayg – Creative Director and Writer at Crystal Dynamics – explains it well. “Telling our story of Kamala’s coming-of-age brings a fresh, hopeful perspective to the gameplay experience and her unique abilities as Ms. Marvel make her a character every person will want to play. Kamala Khan is the defining ingredient that makes our game stand apart from any Avengers story you’ve experienced before.” Kamala is an unapologetic fangirl – one of the traits we most love about her. Kamala wears her passion on her sleeve – making her relatable for many of us at the studio, and for fellow fans worldwide. Fandom is even the catalyst to her coming-of-age story. Invited to A-Day as an Avengers fan-fiction contest finalist, young Kamala is exposed to Terrigen Mist during the unanticipated attack. Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor blame themselves for the mass devastation and the loss of Captain America. In the five years following A-Day, the Avenger’s absence has devastating consequences worldwide. A secretive, new organization has risen – Advanced Idea Mechanics, otherwise known as AIM. AIM believes that science – not Super Heroes – is the key to protecting the world. Now a teenager, Kamala finds herself developing extraordinary polymorphic and healing powers as a direct result of the A-day incident. With the Avengers disbanded and Advanced Idea Mechanics turning public sentiment against Super Heroes, Kamala hides her abilities from the world. Kamala’s unwavering loyalty to the Avengers, intelligence, inquisitive nature, and ever-optimistic personality lead to a huge discovery when she uncovers a shocking conspiracy. As Kamala learns to harness and embrace her powers, she finds the will and the way to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Joining our stellar performance cast as Kamala Khan is Sandra Saad, who brings the character’s strength and spirit to the motion capture stage. “Kamala’s a tremendous inspiration to me,” shared Sandra. “She’s so relatable, and I think we can all find aspects of ourselves in her. So, at the end of the day, playing her ended up feeling like I was playing a super version of myself. I ultimately focused on paying homage to who Kamala is but bringing my own dash of originality and uniqueness to the role whenever appropriate.” With this exciting announcement, Kamala Khan week officially kicks off on our Marvel’s Avengers social channels! Tune in daily to learn more about her unique combat style, Heroic moves (EMBIGGEN!), outfit origin, trivia, and more. We can’t wait for you to suit up as Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, The Hulk, and Kamala Khan when Marvel’s Avengers launches on May 15, 2020. Best part? The narrative will continue to be delivered on an ongoing basis, with every new Super Hero and region delivered at no additional cost. This is what’s next for the Avengers. Avengers Reassemble! 8. Hi everyone! I’m Brendan Murphy, lead writer on Marvel’s Iron Man VR. I’m pleased to be the one to announce that Marvel’s Iron Man VR is releasing exclusively for PlayStation VR* on February 28! With my colleagues at Camouflaj, we’ve spent the past three years creating the ultimate Iron Man game for PlayStation VR. From day one, we’ve had our work cut out for us: not only do we need to deliver incredible Super Hero action and flying in VR, but we had to pair that with a heartfelt, original story about Tony Stark. Pre-order Marvel’s Iron Man VR at PlayStation Store With Marvel’s Iron Man VR, we approached our big story moments with humor, heart, and suspense—attributes that map perfectly with Tony Stark. Given the fact that the game is built from the ground up for VR, we doubled down on the storytelling strengths of virtual reality. This means putting the player in the shoes of Tony Stark—literally—as players embody Tony, interact with the world, choose some dialogue beats, and live his life in and out of the armor. Lastly, we sought to leverage the sense of presence in VR by populating the game with iconic Marvel characters to interact with. Crafting a story that can only be told in VR requires heavy iteration. Central to that process was teaming up with the creative director of Marvel Games, Bill Rosemann, who encouraged us to think big and differently about the game’s narrative, and provided terrific guidance for how to fashion an authentic Tony Stark experience. More recently, we’ve also paired with famed Marvel writer Christos Gage to help with some additional writing and sprinkling in some fun “Marvel-ness” into the script! The story has gone through many iterations, yet early on, we landed on the idea that hacker villain Ghost should be Marvel’s Iron Man VR’s headlining antagonist. Ghost is an all-time classic Iron Man super Villain, starting from the character’s first appearance in Iron Man #219, this formidable adversary continues to challenge Iron Man throughout multiple arcs, such as Inevitable and Unholy Ghost. In our game, Ghost is a great foil for Tony Stark—she not only holds a grudge against our hero, but holds a mirror up to him. As a witness to the damage caused by Stark-made weapons years earlier, Ghost’s fight against Iron Man is both ideological and personal. Because of Ghost, our complex and fascinating hero must reconcile his troubled past, both on and off the battlefield… In addition to announcing our release date, I’m also excited to reveal our lineup of offerings: Standard Edition: $39.99 USD MSRP/$49.99 CAD MSRP (Available physically & digitally) Digital Deluxe Edition: $49.99 USD MSRP/$59.99 CAD MSRP (Digital only) | Includes: Marvel’s Iron Man VR Game 4 Deluxe Edition Deco Armors (Golden Avenger, Black Centurion, Sun Stinger, Stealth Armor) 12 Research Points – Research Points are gained by analyzing combat data from Iron Man’s performance in the field. This research and analysis allows Friday to develop new technology (weapons and augments) for the Impulse Suit. Use these Research Points to unlock some weapons and augments early and customize to play style. Marvel’s Iron Man VR Digital Deluxe Soundtrack Digital Deluxe Edition Iron Man PS4 Theme Pre-order any of these at your favorite retailer and receive a code good to download the following at launch: 4 Custom Armor Decos (Origin Armor, Vintage Armor, Silver Centurion Armor, & Ultraviolet Armor) Marvel’s Iron Man VR Dynamic PS4 theme For those who pre-order from PlayStation Store, you’ll also receive a free month trial to Marvel Unlimited** and get a chance to read up on the comics that inspired this game. Find out more about the Marvel Unlimited here. Thanks for checking out this post and for coming along on this ride! We look forward to revealing more about Marvel’s Iron Man VR action combat and flight, and Tony Stark-centric story that leans heavily into the unique strengths of PlayStation VR to deliver a campaign full of humor, heart, and suspense. With only a few precious months of development left, it’s best I sign off here and get back to the Garage! *PlayStation VR is not for use by children under age 12. PlayStation 4 system, PlayStation VR, and PlayStation Camera are required to experience VR functionality. Marvel’s Iron Man VR requires Two PlayStation Move motion controllers (sold separately). **Pre-order customers will receive the Marvel Unlimited Trial Code (“Marvel Code”) via email on or around February 28, 2020. Redemption of Marvel Code requires Marvel Unlimited account and a credit card. Must be 13+ to create Marvel Unlimited account. 10. Hello Bandicoots! We hope you’ve had a great time with the purple dragon in the Spyro & Friends Grand Prix in CTR Nitro-Fueled. Today, in addition to all the amazing content and challenges going live with the Spooky Grand Prix, we have something very special to announce. Going live at PlayStation Store, players in the United States and the United Kingdom will be able to purchase a very special kart for CTR Nitro-Fueled — Firehawk. This is no ordinary kart: first of all, it’s actually modelled after a classic military plane. The first ever plane in CTR! Second, this item supports the mission of the Call of Duty Endowment — all proceeds received by Activision for this item will go toward placing Veterans in the U.S. and Ex-Forces in the U.K. into high-quality civilian jobs. It’s a way to look fly on the racetrack, while supporting a great cause! We wanted to give PlayStation players an in-depth look at the Call of Duty Endowment and the work that it does, as well as some inside details on the creation of the kart itself. With that, let’s take flight! Call of Duty Endowment The Call of Duty Endowment is a non-profit organization supported by Activision Blizzard, whose goal is to put 100,000 former military members back to work by 2024. All Activision proceeds received for Endowment-marked items in its games goes toward funding non-profits in the U.S. and U.K. which place veterans in those countries into high-quality civilian jobs. Founded in 2009, the Endowment has helped to place over 60,000 veterans into well-paying jobs to date. The Endowment carefully selects the organizations it chooses to fund, ensuring that these organizations deliver the highest standards of quality and cost-efficient veteran job placement services. At Beenox, we’re incredibly excited to be able to support the Endowment and its mission with Firehawk. What makes this even more special is that this is the first in-game Endowment item offered for a game other than Call of Duty. Firehawk is going live at PlayStation Store today for U.S. and U.K. players for $4.99 USD (£3.99). As mentioned, all of the proceeds received by Activision for this item will go directly toward helping place veterans in the U.S. and U.K. into high-quality jobs. But beyond supporting a great cause, this item also immediately became one of Beenox’s favorite items we’ve ever created for the game! Firehawk’s Design This item is definitely a unique one for CTR Nitro-Fueled. First off, it’s the first plane to come to the game (Oxide’s Hovercraft notwithstanding). We’ve been looking for the right time to put a plane design in the game, and we felt this was a great opportunity to do it. Although it acts like a kart in the game, its design is reminiscent of a classic military plane. From its early stages, we had a good idea of how we wanted to proceed with the item. Below is some concept art which landed very close to the final design: With the dark green paint job, the big front propeller, and even the outlandish nose art, we wanted to give fans that classic WWII-era feel. And of course, we cap it off with the Call of Duty Endowment emblem near the tail. We are very happy with the way this translated to the game. (By the way, the plane matches perfectly with the Aviator Crash skin for anyone that has it…) Overall, we think racers are going to look great gliding, sliding, and boosting around the track in this kart, and knowing that it’s something that is going toward a good cause only makes it that much better. It’s something we hope that players young and old will enjoy and will even help them learn more about the Call of Duty Endowment and the great work that it’s doing. If you’d like to learn more about the Endowment, visit its website, or follow it on Twitter at @CODE4Vets and Instagram @callofdutyendowment. Thank you for reading about this great initiative, and for taking a look at the Firehawk kart! Find it at PlayStation Store and support a great cause! View the full article
  11. We are excited to announce and open pre-orders for the new Victrix Pro AF Headset, a new product that’s officially licensed by PlayStation and specifically designed for esports competitors, streamers, and core gamers. We’ve taken the industry-leading features of the Victrix Pro AF ANC and tuned it for gamers who don’t have the need for active noise cancellation. Since arriving in the esports scene, Victrix has disrupted the market with our innovative products, and the new Victrix Pro AF Headset is no different. As a result of years of development efforts from engineers, designers, and professional players, we’ve created products packed with valuable technological advancements and combined that with head-turning aesthetics. This new headset gives competitive players the ability to take their game to the next level, and look good doing it. The Victrix Pro AF Headset includes top-of-the-line features and unmatched build quality that can endure the wear and tear of daily gaming or the grueling travel to esports tournaments. This headset was engineered for professional competitive play with a light but tough stainless steel headband, aircraft grade aluminum yokes, and protein enriched polyurethane (leatherette) earpads with hidden seams. Read more about these first-class features below. Cooling Mechanism: During design research, we observed pro athletes shifting their earcups during short breaks between rounds—seeking relief while they discussed their strategy for the next round. We came up with an effective solution using patent pending mechanical levers that open the earcup vents to release heat and humidity, without losing team communication at any time. Cobra Microphone: A gaming headset is only as good as its microphone. Our mechanical mic filter design was originally created for the Cobra attack helicopter, and its violent 120dB unpressurized cockpit. This boom mic will increase player intelligibility in the loudest environments. On-Ear Controls: Tweak audio on the fly. We’ve all struggled to find the controls mid-game to adjust audio or mute ourselves in between rounds. After receiving valuable feedback, we’ve centralized them to the headset itself so it’s all within reach. We’ve created the high-performance Victrix Pro AF Headset with top quality features, durability, and tournament focused equipment all at an attractive price that fulfills the needs of competitive players who don’t need active noise cancellation. Every aspect of this headset is optimized for peak performance. The Victrix Pro AF Headset is available now for pre-order on VictrixPro.com for $179.99, and will begin shipping on November 8. For more information about Victrix or the Pro AF Headset, please visit VictrixPro.com. View the full article

  16. Hello riders! We are Megagon Industries, a three-person studio from Berlin, and our game Lonely Mountains: Downhill is finally near the finish line. We can’t wait to welcome all of you to our mountainous creation, which will arrive on PlayStation 4 October 23! Most of all, we’re looking forward to seeing your videos and hearing your stories about making (or not making) your way down the mountainside. In Lonely Mountains: Downhill, it’s you and your bike against the mountain. Every mountain features several trails, and each trail has a variety of challenges for you to accomplish. In other words – you have some work cut out for you! Visit new mountains, explore new terrain and unlock new bikes with different features. Each bike has its own advantages, so try each one to see which one best fits the trail and your playstyle! Some bikes are great for going off-road while others focus on large jumps, high drops or absolute speed. A shortcut that’s great for one bike might not be the best for another one! Not all paths down the mountain are obvious, so always keep an eye out (you might even find some beautiful resting spots along the way). Finding the best route down the mountain is key on your way to the top of the leaderboards. You can certainly say that Lonely Mountains: Downhill can be a demanding experience. Successfully getting down the mountain is just the first step – and worth a Trophy in itself! But it gets even more fun when you start challenging yourself to do it without crashing once. Or to learn all the right paths down the mountain in order to set the fastest time possible! Make sure you hit each of the checkpoints before going totally off-road in the Free Ride mode! If that all still sounds too easy for you, well, no need to worry! We’ve decided to increase the challenge even a bit more by adding a Night Mode. To master this mode you need to learn every nook and cranny of the trails, or the smallest pebble might become your downfall. Thankfully, your bike comes with headlights. Prepare to hit that share button many times to capture all your greatest victories… or most spectacular crashes. Have a good ride and see you on the mountains! View the full article
  17. It’s often not assumed that composers scoring games are themselves gamers (a travesty I have no explanation for), but in my case, my entire life has been marked by countless memorable titles. In my profession, I’ve been very lucky to score some remarkable story-driven narrative projects like Journey, ABZU, and The Banner Saga trilogy, and so I was incredibly excited when I first heard about The Bradwell Conspiracy – a first-person narrative adventure game that you’ll be able to play on PS4 starting October 8. The game tells the story of you, an anonymous attendee of a gala at the Stonehenge Museum in England when a mysterious event leaves the place in ruins. Waking up amid the destruction (and unable to speak), your pair of AI-equipped Augmented Reality glasses connect you to Amber, a young scientist from the museum, who is also trying to escape. Your method of communication with her is through sending screenshots of your POV that she then responds to. Working with Amber, you’ll navigate the endless labyrinth of halls and tunnels and quickly learn that there is far more below this humble museum than originally met the eye… I don’t want to say any more than that but needless to say, the instant our creative director Georg Backer gave me a rundown of his idea for the game, I was hooked. I’ve always loved games that show instead of tell, and require you to immerse yourself into the world in order to truly unlock its story, and The Bradwell Conspiracy fully delivered that. And not only that, but Amber’s dialogue is outrageously charming. We realized early on how much personality would need to come through the voice in our heads and managed to craft a script (with the help of none other than Jane Espenson of Buffy and Battlestar Galactica fame!) that walks this line of intriguing and hilarious. Imagine a one-sided Firewatch where the spunky character is desperately trying to understand why you’re spamming her with shots of everything you see. What’s more (and the reason your humble composer is here today writing this guest blog), we at A Brave Plan had a rather reckless approach with the music. Traditionally, first-person games have leaned heavily on atmospheric sound design and minimalist music to color the background while the player freely explores, saving the bigger musical moments for scripted events. Not only did the team encourage me to let the music speak more aggressively than that, but also more weirdly. Let it defy genre as much as possible and even sometimes challenge the fourth wall. There are times when the music is simultaneously underscoring the player experience “non-diagetically” (meaning in that traditional soundtrack manner where its audible to the player, but not the characters), and times where it starts to blur the line. In-world events partially manipulate the music in semi-literal ways. In the interest of avoiding spoilers, I am keeping that deliberately vague. Basically, it’s weird. When else was going to write a score where I could have thumping bass lines, grand pipe organs, walls of white noise and super ambient electric guitars? Spoiler: never. I had a partner in crime for all this, Ali Tocher, who did masterful sound design on the game and was my comrade in determining the best ways to integrate the music meaningfully into the gameplay. Because of how surreal A Brave Plan was encouraging us to be, generic implementation would’ve been an opportunity missed. We even shared sounds back and forth so that the line between sound and music was blurry at best. This game has been a very long journey for us, as many games are, but I am proud of this team and I feel very privileged to have been part of it. You’d be hard-pressed to find any team anywhere more dedicated to seeing a project finished, and beautifully so, than this one. Games like this let you express parts of yourself that no other game would afford an opportunity for and I got to places that I never had, and likely never will again. I hope you get a chance to play it and uncover … The Bradwell Conspiracy. View the full article
  18. Hello dear readers! I’m John Melchior, Executive Producer of the original Ghostbusters: The Video Game. With Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered set to launch this Friday, October 4, this was a great time to reflect on the timelessness of the beloved title, and how special creating a Ghostbusters video game has been. The Cast in Ghostbusters: The Video Game The personalities of the cast are so important to every aspect of Ghostbusters, and it was one of the first things we tackled. We really tried to capture all their quirks, traits and humor in the never released 10-minute prototype. It was the element of the pitch that won over Sony, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, and Ivan Reitman to approve it and Vivendi to fund it. Dan always described it as a family structure. To make it work, we had to follow that approach. Think of it like this: Bill is the father figure, the one who tries to take care of the family and keep the out-of-control kids in order. Dan brings a youthful Christmas morning approach to everything that happens. Like opening the one present you really wanted. Things like “This is great,” “I can’t believe it,” approach, even if the events are scary. For the most part, he sees the positive side to everything. Harold is the pragmatic child and the geek. Introverted and studies more than parties. However, when you put them together, they get into all sorts of trouble that requires them to be put back in line. Ernie’s character is really the perfect representation of the audience, seeing things the same way we do and calling out the obvious. Finally, William Atherton is the spoiled brat kid down the street who always gets what he wants. So, knowing the above, Drew (Hayworth) and I worked hard to create environments and sets that showcased each of them and allowed setups for their humor and characters to shine. Then the vast number of writers we had trying to create this universe took those and created specifics to the characters, their motivations, and connections to each other. Dan and Harold took those and really created the humor you see in the game. The New Recruit & World Building The rookie (new recruit) was a massive fight internally at Vivendi and then even with Atari. They really wanted to “play as the cast.” This was something I really fought for and eventually won. The reason why was simple. I felt people wanted the characters to have the same chemistry as they did in the films. A pillar of this was timing. So, by playing a character that had no lines, we were able to craft that timing. Dan, Harold, Bill, and Ivan created an incredible universe with the films. Most importantly, they create rules to the world and things that could and could not be done. This gave Drew and the design team a playground to build the levels out of. One of the most important things that they made a mandate was that one of Ghostbusters main characters is the city of New York. The city — its attitude, energy, and tone — needed to be front and center in creating this world. These are also things that helped the writers as they started to put details to the levels and dialogue. One time, there was a debate about the museum location. I called Harold, who was on the set of The Office directing an episode, and he called me back from his break to weigh in and provide guidance about what would best fit the world. Dan was also always there. He would regularly see the game and review the levels we were creating to see how they played into the canon of their creation. The upstate NY location and boat were things that he had created in some form for the movie, but it never made it in. So, he really wanted us to put them into our game since it was canon and fit in to the universe. He has a lot of knowledge about NY’s history, locations, and people. It was amazing to work within his guidelines of where we needed to go in the game and how it played out as far as the ghosts, how they acted, and even what they were wearing. Iconic Settings, Characters, & Weapons First and foremost, we wanted to take players back to the Sedgewick Hotel. This iconic location from the film is a fan favorite. We wanted to re-create the ballroom scene, in part to gain the player’s trust. We felt strongly that if we can nail the look, feel, destruction, and rod-and-reel aspect of the game, we would have their trust for the rest of the game. That level was the focal point of our pre-production. We wanted to bring back Stay Puft, and we were told that in order to do that we’d really need to put him in Time Square. So, we crafted an introduction that put him in familiar territory at first, but led to a boss combat sequence that was narrower and more focused for the players than a space that wide open. The firehouse was a must for us. We wanted to create it and place a lot of elements from both films in there for fans to see and interact with. The best example of that is probably the Vigo Painting. Picking elements and areas that were for the fans was important to us, but we did not want to overuse that approach. So, we worked with the team and Dan/Harold to create new locations that they hoped would become iconic for the fans. The boat was something that Dan wanted. He always wanted a GB boat in the movies and really felt the game was the perfect place to introduce it. It was a great part of the story. We had early prototypes of driving the Ecto-1 and the boat but they did not end up in the game. We sat down with Dan and discussed equipment classes. We told him we wanted GB equipment types for every type of gun that shooter fans would expect. He worked with the design team to create a vast number of weapons. They were all fun and chaotic. The Tether was a perfect addition as it played really well in the physics engine that we used for the game. In the early tests of that piece of equipment, fans just loved connecting two objects together and letting physics take over. The Stasis mines were also a fun addition that forced the entity to freeze in place for a few seconds. We hope you enjoyed this trip down Ghostbusters memory lane, and you jump in and experience the unique storyline and adventure in high definition with Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered on PS4! 19. Welcome back! It’s a tough one this month — I thought I knew what I was going to vote for right after the month kicked off, but some more recent releases just might change my mind… As always, we’ll announce the winner of the poll after all the votes have been tallied, but since last month saw the release of a few big-name sports titles, we’ll give a special shout-out to whichever one of those three rakes in the most votes too. Feel free to debate the merits of your selections in the comments, but make sure you cast your vote before the weekend is over! We’ll close the polls at 11:59pm Pacific Sunday night. How does it work? At the end of every month, PlayStation.Blog will open a poll where you can vote for the best new game released that month. Soon thereafter, we’ll close the polls, tally your votes, and announce the winner at PlayStation.Blog. PlayStation Store will also showcase some top Players’ Choice winners throughout the year. What is the voting criteria? That’s up to you! If you were only able to recommend one new release to a friend that month, which would it be? In keeping with our long tradition in the Game of the Year Awards, remastered or re-released games won’t qualify. Ambitious, larger-scale rebuilds and remakes like Shadow of the Colossus and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will. How are nominees decided? The PlayStation.Blog and PlayStation Store editorial teams will gather a list of that month’s most noteworthy releases and use it to seed the poll. Write-in votes will be accepted. 22. In Apex Legends Season 3 — Meltdown, you’ll be able to battle in the burning cold of World’s Edge, score a fresh Battle Pass to take on Daily and Weekly Challenges, and get unique rewards. Uncover your opponents’ secrets as Crypto, a Legend who sees what others want to keep hidden, and heat the arena up with the Charge Rifle. It’s the latest fight in this free-to-play battle royale game where legendary competitors aim for glory, fame, and fortune on the fringes of the Frontier. Let’s investigate the details to get you ready for the fight! Welcome to World’s Edge Season 3 unveils a brand new map — and it’s a challenge from the first step (before even taking into account the other competitors coming at you), a rocky, volcanic zone called World’s Edge. It’s the site of a massive chemical blast that caused loss of life and iced over the area around it. The accident turned it into a frozen graveyard, and the spot for the newest Apex Arena. Hack the System with the Newest Legend The latest Legend grew up on the streets surrounded by hackers, thieves, criminals, and mercenaries, but he was not in danger — this was home. Specializing in designing and encrypting monitor devices used to track and transmit information from the Apex Games throughout The Outlands, he uncovered a strange hidden file with secret information hidden inside a prototype drone — a discovery that forced him to flee for his life. Adopting a new identity (and a bunch of body modifications), he became the newest Legend, Crypto. Always looking to stay in the fight — but out of the spotlight — cool, calm, and collected Crypto has plenty of secrets to keep, and specialized surveillance drones to dig up his opponents’ secrets. As well as a purpose that’s driving him. Season 3 Battle Pass Delivers the Goods The Season 3 Battle Pass comes complete with new Daily and Weekly challenges, XP boosts, Apex Packs, 1,200 Crafting Metals, a thousand Apex Coins, and, of course, all-new Legendary items. Want to jump in hot and put your foes on ice? The Battle Pass is the first step to getting there. The Daily and Weekly Challenges give Legends the chance to level up their Battle Pass more efficiently. If you miss a few weeks or start late, your Weekly Challenges will still be around when you return, and you can complete them all at once. Unlock the Legendary Reckoner DMR when you purchase the Battle Pass, then fight through the remaining 100 levels to earn Legendary items like the Iced Out Pathfinder, From the Ashes Lifeline, and the reactive Frostbite Peacekeeper. Personalize your game more than ever with our latest content categories. We have more music packs, loading screens, skydive emotes, and unique quips. Plus, score brand-new gun charms to decorate your weapons and you’re ready to dominate. Maybe start off with the new Charge Rifle also unleashed in Season 3, an obliterating directed-energy weapon first used for blasting in Titanfall and Titanfall 2. And That’s Just the Beginning Misfits, outcasts, drifters, and grifters — the Apex Games welcomes them all, and now welcomes them to collide into a whole new season. Burn your enemies before they burn you! Play Apex Legends for free today on PS4, and we’ll see you in the arena. View the full article
  23. The day is finally here! Today all of us here at Bungie are excited to deliver our latest expansion to players both new and old: Destiny 2: Shadowkeep. Become your Guardian and delve into new realms on the Moon and beyond, with tons of new content to explore. We’re absolutely delighted to share Shadowkeep globally on PlayStation 4 and hope the community, our forever-partners in creating and evolving Destiny 2 with their great feedback, enjoy this new release. Here are my top five things that you can experience within Shadowkeep. 1: We’re going back to the Moon! Let’s set the scene. Remember the Moon in the original Destiny? In Shadowkeep, you’ll be returning to the Archer’s Line, where you walked years ago, but all is not what it used to be. Shockwaves have rippled across the Moon, changing the terrain and exposing long-buried secrets. Something wicked has awoken. Nightmares rise up from beneath the lunar surface to plague our Moon and the planets beyond. Only one key ally can help you amidst this sudden crisis… Eris Morn. You may remember Eris, a Guardian who works across the solar system to seek out and reveal threats to the Vanguard and The Last City. This quest led to the awakening of these new Nightmares, and you must team up with Eris to stop them before it’s too late. Return to the Moon, journey deep into the mysterious Scarlet Keep, and work with Eris to discover the source of the Nightmares before they cast humanity into another age of Darkness for good. 2: Customization with Armor 2.0 More customization than ever before! We’ve revamped and implemented a significant number of customizable options to expand the ways Guardians both look and play, letting them express their own unique character and style. With Armor 2.0, Guardians can now experiment with: More Stats: Previously, Guardians could only have three stats at values of 1-10 on their armor. Now, players will instead see six stats on their armor drops — Discipline, Intellect, Mobility, Recovery, Resilience and Strength. Oh, and all of these stats go up to 100 now. Fully Customizable Mods: All armor drops come with thousands of potential and mod choice to explore in addition to stat combinations. Upgrade your armor and plug in the mods you want on the fly to make it easier to mix and match towards your playstyle. Experiment as much as you want, as mods are be unlocks with infinite uses instead of being consumable. Universal Ornaments: Legendary Ornaments can now be applied to any piece of legendary armor you’re wearing and swapped on the fly. Change up your look with any piece of legendary armor with the ornament of your choice at any time. Energy System: Dach mod has different levels of power. The more mods you want to equip and the more powerful the mods you’re aiming to use, the more energy you’ll need to invest into your armor pieces. 3: The hunt for new gear Discover unique weapons and armor in ways both new and old: Construct weapons out of Nightmare Essence with Eris Morn Gather Vex-themed gear through the Season Pass Collect exciting new Exotics from quests and enemy drops …and more! 4: New combat tool: Finishers! We have introduced a new combat tool for all Destiny 2 players: Finishers! Weaken your enemies and activate a Finisher to deliver a final blow with a flourish. Class Themed – blast arcane energy as a Warlock, flourish your knives as a Hunter, and strike with the greatest Titan weapon of all, your fist. Close Quarters Combat – Rush a weakened enemy to activate a devastating final blow. Risk & Reward – Equip Finisher Mods that use Super energy to customize its effects, such as self-healing or spawning ammo for your fireteam. 5: New Raid & New Season to discover Assemble your Fireteam, Guardians, because it’s time for you and your squad to challenge Destiny’s newest raid: The Garden of Salvation. A signal emerges from the Darkness of forgotten depths and reaches beyond dimensions, into the uncharted wilds of the Black Garden. Where it leads inside the Garden remains a mystery. The signal itself is an enigma, one that whispers with temptation, yearning to be solved. Included with Shadowkeep is our latest seasonal update for Destiny 2: Season of the Undying. Defend our Moon from the Vex invasion and face the Undying Mind. In Season of the Undying, you will experience a new activity, discover new exotic weapons, collect exclusive universal ornaments, and grow more powerful as you fight to halt the never-ending waves of advancing Vex armies. 24. One of the many great things about working on NetherRealm games is the opportunity offered by DLC to add guest fighters to our titles. What’s more, these are usually iconic characters that I’ve grown up with and have had an impact on me as an artist. The Terminator T-800 from the Terminator: Dark Fate film is such a great addition to Mortal Kombat 11. Everyone in the studio has so much love and respect for this character, and the amount of creative energy felt during the character creation process, along with everyone’s excitement during the final playthroughs, were incredible. Although most of my work consists of reviewing and art directing assets for the character and prop teams, I also build character faces and facial rigs that drive our facial animations. As Arnold Schwarzenegger is arguably the most iconic action hero of all time, it was a real career highlight to work on his face and facial rig. The team added a lot of new features, pushing everything to its technical limits to make all gameplay, intros, victories, Fatal Blows and Fatalities feel truly impressive. The character team worked hard to not only add new systems for all the Terminator dismemberment and Krushing Blow content but to also add new features enabling the addition of decal elements. These allowed us to give the Terminator several different shirt options. We couldn’t do the Terminator without showing the T-800 endoskeleton. This is my favorite skin, the damage to the face and the revealed skull are just plain cool. In addition, the design team has really outdone themselves by adding a game mechanic that will have you fighting as the T-800 endoskeleton, if you have the right move equipped and you are at low health in the final round. We also have additional character skins dropping with all this content, including Sonya Blade as a Cyborg Hunter, Kano as a cyborg in his Cash Machine Kano skin and Johnny Cage in a very expensive tuxedo, movie premiere-ready as Red Carpet Johnny Cage. These are great skins, especially the different tux color options for Johnny. And we have a Cassie Cage as Harley Quinn character skin for Kombat Pack owners, which we’ve been looking forward to releasing. Not only is it a great visual, but it also adds some fun to Cassie’s costume options. The opportunity to add Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator T-800 to Mortal Kombat 11 has been nothing short of an amazing experience for everyone here at NetherRealm Studios, and it really shows off the huge amount of great creative content that has been added to the game. We hope you all feel the respect and love that we have for this brilliant character when the DLC drops on October 8 via early access for Kombat Pack owners and October 15 for wide (à la carte) availability. And lastly, we have a Mortal Kombat 11 free trial coming up October 11-14 on PS4, where you’ll be able to preview all multiplayer game modes, a portion of the Story mode, the full base game roster of characters and some of the Kombat Pack fighters (Terminator T-800, Nightwolf and Shang Tsung) within the Towers of Time mode. If you haven’t played the game yet, feel free to check it out! View the full article
  25. Today we announced some big news for PlayStation Now. We know you may have questions, so we put together a handy guide to tell you everything you need to know about streaming and downloading games on PS Now. Let’s get right to it. In a nutshell, how is PS Now changing? Starting October 1, the following top blockbuster games will be added to the PS Now service: God of War, Grand Theft Auto V*, Infamous Second Son and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. These games will be available starting on October 1 until January 2, 2020 for you to stream to your PS4 system or PC, or download to your PS4 system. Additionally we are offering PS Now at a new lower price, keeping it line with pricing of other entertainment streaming services. Here are the prices starting today: US: $9.99 – monthly / $24.99 – quarterly / $59.99 – yearly (from $19.99/ $44.99/ $99.99) CAN: $12.99 – monthly / $34.99 – quarterly / $79.99 – yearly (from $19.99/ $44.99/ $99.99) EU: €9.99 – monthly / €24.99 – quarterly/ €59.99 – yearly (from €14.99/ (N/A)/ €99.99) UK: £8.99 – monthly / £22.99 – quarterly/ £49.99 – yearly (from £12.99 / (N/A) / £84.99) JP: ¥1,180 – monthly / ¥2,980 – quarterly / ¥6,980 yearly (from ¥2,500 / ¥5,900 / (NA) I’m an existing 12-month subscriber. What will change for me? You will see the new reduced price reflected on your next billing cycle. You’ll also have access to the newly announced blockbuster titles on the service. Otherwise, your service will remain the same, and you can continue to enjoy the hundreds of games currently available. How often will new titles be introduced to the PS Now catalog? Each month, the service will add a selection of popular games that will be available for a limited period. This is on top of the existing offering of popular evergreen titles that are added to PS Now on a regular basis. Will I still be able to stream or download PS Now games included in the subscription plan? Yes. PlayStation Now enables you to stream more than 800** PS4, PS3 and PS2 games on your PS4 and PC, and download more than 300** PS4 games to play on your PS4. Downloaded and recently streamed games will sit in your PS4 library alongside any other games you’ve purchased from PS Store, or any recently played disc-based games on the homescreen. It’s easy to switch between streamed or downloaded games. PS4 offers both download and streaming support. On PC, only streamed games are supported. How do I download PS Now games? On your PS4 system, you can browse the PS4 title you want to play on the PS Now service. There, you will see a streaming or download option. Just hit the download option and you are good to go. Otherwise if you are browsing through the PlayStation Store you’ll see a PS Now button on any title included in the service, so you can choose to download or stream. PS Now games downloaded to your PS4 will appear in your library just like any game you purchase from PlayStation Store. Downloads are only compatible on PS4 or PS4 Pro, and are not supported on PC. What’s the difference between playing a downloaded game and streamed version? Games downloaded from PS Now run locally on your PS4 console at their native graphic quality and sound output modes, so the quality can increase up 4K (with a PS4 Pro) if the game and your TV supports it. Downloaded games with PS VR support are also playable using your PS VR system. Additionally, some online features, such as add-ons and online mode, will only be accessible through the downloaded version of the game. Streaming quality will vary depending on your internet speeds and bandwidth, requiring a minimum of 5Mbps. How many games can I download from PS Now? There is no limit to the number of games you can download from the PS Now service, as long as you have sufficient hard drive space. When I’m offline, can I play games I’ve downloaded? Yes. However, when playing a downloaded game, you’ll need to connect to PSN every seven days to validate your PS Now subscription and maintain your access to the game. Do DLC and add-ons work with downloaded games? Yes. You can purchase and use any DLC and add-on content with games downloaded from PlayStation Now. If your PlayStation Now subscription expires, or if the limited time game content leaves the PS Now service, you’ll also lose access to the DLC and add-on content associated with that game. However, should you re-subscribe to PlayStation Now, or purchase the game from PlayStation Store, you’ll be able to use your purchased DLC and add-on content again. What about PS VR? Are you adding any PS VR titles to PlayStation Now? We don’t currently have any plans for PS VR games to be added to the service for streaming. However, any games you download from PS Now that have PS VR support will work just as well as if you downloaded them from PlayStation Store. Can I use PS VR or other peripherals with games downloaded from PS Now? As with all games downloaded from PlayStation Store or installed via disc, games downloaded via PlayStation Now will allow you to use any peripherals the game supports. Streamed games will not support PS VR. Will games from the next-generation console eventually be made available through PS Now? PlayStation Now focuses on bringing to you the best games from the PS2, PS3 and PS4 libraries. We have no plans to discuss next-generation games right now. Do games in the PS Now service have Trophies? Yes, games in the service supports trophies just like a disc or downloaded version of the game. Trophies are unlocked in real time and sync to your account. PS4 gameplay activity and trophy unlocks appear in your activity feed seen by other players on the PS4 dashboard. Does PS Now support multiplayer for both PS4 and PC? Yes, games in the PlayStation Now library support multiplayer, just like the retail versions of the game. Multiplayer invites can also be sent and received, just like normal. In addition, you can enjoy PS4 and PS3 multiplayer games online through PS Now without a PlayStation Plus subscription. PS Plus is required for online multiplayer access for PS4 and PS3 games outside of the PS Now service. Is there a combined PS Now & PS Plus subscription offering?
