  2. While we were developing Risk of Rain, we never expected our game to gain a dedicated following. We were just two college students working out of our dorms in our free time, doing something we loved — making and playing games! Three years later, Hopoo Games and Code Mystics have partnered up to send Risk of Rain to PS4 and PS Vita! While PC gamers will be familiar with Risk of Rain, we have a few new features to the game’s online system — exclusive to PlayStation owners. Thanks to the PlayStation Network, we now have automatic matchmaking integrated into Risk of Rain. With just one press of a button you’ll be automatically placed into a lobby with up to three other players around the world — no IP address or port forwarding required. Just online fun. But what would Risk of Rain be without playing with friends? Now you can play on the couch, and on the internet — all at once! While we still have the four-player local co-op available in Risk of Rain, you can now play online lobbies while sharing a machine with your friend — up to two per machine. Wanna just play online instead? You can also invite your friends into your lobby through PSN to get all your game buddies into one lobby. “But Duncan, what if my friend is on PS Vita and I’m on PS4?†No worries — we know that people prefer playing on their own platform, so now we also have cross-platform online support between PS Vita and PS4. That means that both a player sitting on the couch on his PS4 and a player on the bus playing on his PS Vita can enjoy Risk of Rain chaos — together. These changes are all aimed at letting Risk of Rain do what it’s best at — a fun, but brutally hard time with friends. With automatic matchmaking, local co-op integration with online lobbies, and cross-platform support, we’re hoping that the online experience is the best possible for players. And for all our new PlayStation fans — thank you so much for your support, and prepare to die. A lot. See you on the planet. View the full article
  3. Sackboy and Sackgirl have always been rather emotive with a quick tap of one of the directional buttons, but this brand new range of costumes will allow them to express their emotions at a whole new level. Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust are all available — or you can even become an imaginary friend for one of your Sackfriends by wearing the oh-so-colorful Bing Bong Costume. Each costume is available individually or can be purchased together as a bundle in the Inside Out Costume Pack. Monsters, Inc. and The Good DinosaurSackboy and friends have always been big fans of Disney-Pixar movies and we have a couple of other wardrobe additions to help them dress up as all of their favorite characters. The Monsters, Inc. Costume Pack and The Good Dinosaur Costume Pack are both available on the Store now, so whether you prefer to dress-up as monsters or dinosaurs… You will be sure to be able to have a good stomp around LittleBigPlanet! Community ShowcaseTo wrap up this celebration of Disney-Pixar goodness, we wanted to share one of our favorite ever creations from the LittleBigPlanet community with a Disney-Pixar twist… Toy Story: Watchin’ TV! This incredible level features a huge Rube Goldberg machine crafted by our favorite Toy Story characters and using LittleBigPlanet’s in-game physics to help them turn on the TV whenever Andy and his family are out of the house. Give the video a watch to see this great machine in action! Have you created or played a great level featuring any of your favourite Disney-Pixar characters? Be sure to message us and let us know about your favorite levels. We would love to see them! View the full article
  4. Is it time again already? The next big patch is live today, and players around the world are logging into Final Fantasy XIV to check out this large-scale update. There’s a lot of new content for players to try out upon logging in. The continuation of the main scenario quest line, two new dungeons, one of which will turn your expectations on their head, an epic new raid within Alexander, a fierce new primal threat that promises to delight old-school Final Fantasy fans, new beast tribe quests, and so much more. After players have had a chance to try all of that out, we’ll be introducing Patch 3.21 a few weeks later that will deliver a brand-new PvP experience to Eorzea! Following the events that took place in Heavensward, the first expansion pack for Final Fantasy XIV, the citizens of Ishgard have been rattled by uncovering an alternative history that was withheld from them — their motivation behind everything they believed, fought, and died for — for more than a thousand years. Will change find its way into this once isolated city-state, and things finally settle down? What gears will you set in motion? Continue the epic main scenario about betrayal and faith! After the deception by the Holy See, the citizens of Ishgard yearned to rebuild everything they’d lost. Truth and peace might foster reformation and lead the wave of change so desperately needed, or at least this is what Ser Aymeric had in mind when he became the acting ruler of the Holy See of Ishgard. Some of the citizens, however, still cling to old beliefs… Conquer the latest expansion of the high-level raid dungeon — Alexander: Midas! Grab your friends and dive ever deeper into the iron fortress Alexander to eliminate the threat posed by the Illuminati! Will you and your fellow adventurers be able to stop them before they are able to realize their plan? The first of the Warring Triad, Sephirot, the Fiend, is here! Sephirot, the Fiend, was a deity once worshipped by a tree-like race native to Meracydia. Brought into being for the sole purpose of repelling the Allagan invasion, Sephirot inflicted ruinous losses upon the imperial army before finally being subdued and imprisoned in the central facility of Azys Lla. And now, millennia later, this immensely powerful entity threatens to awaken, his vengeful dreams disturbed by the careless ambitions of Archbishop Thordan VII. Topple the first pillar of the Warring Triad, or wheresoever his colossal shadow falls shall be visited by unthinkable catastrophe! Explore the Antitower, but hold on to your hat! The Antitower is a brand new dungeon that will make you reflexively cling to your belongings, as you find yourself exploring the ceiling of this upside-down dungeon that was once the workplace of Sharlayan researchers looking into the deepest depths of the unknown. What ancient revelations await adventurers in this upside-down construction? Dive into the Lost City of Amdapor to seal a new evil! You’ve banished Diabolos from Amdapor, but something new and terrifying seems to have awoken in its dark and withered heart, scaring every adventurer away that dared to enter what were thought to be the peaceful ruins of an ancient city. Are you brave enough to face this new threat? Introducing the Mentor System and the Hall of the Novice! Imagine that you’re new to the game, or maybe you’ve only ever played damage dealer roles and want to check out what it’s like to play as a tank. Who would you turn to for advice? A mentor, that’s who! Check out our exclusive PlayStation.Blog Q&A with Final Fantasy XIV Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida to learn about this new system that allows seasoned players the opportunity to assist new adventurers! Players can also visit the new Hall of the Novice to learn about the different roles (tank, healer, DPS) via various challenging trials. There’s lots to learn when starting an MMO and the Hall of the Novice is here to help! These are just a few of the many exciting additions to the game with Patch 3.2 today. For more details, make sure to check out the extensive patch notes on the Lodestone! We’re looking forward to seeing you in the game! View the full article
  5. Hey there, dood! We have some pretty big news for all of you; we’re hosting our annual press event and announcing things right now. Like, literally as this blog post is going live. The magic of technology. Because we love all you awesome cats here at PlayStation.Blog, we included all our big announcements in this post right here. Yup, you’re getting this news at pretty much exactly the time that we’re telling the press about it. So, what are those announcements? Read on, my fine Prinnies! Psycho-Pass: Mandatory HappinessIf you’ve ever wondered what life would be like in a dystopian world where your every emotion, motivation, and experience in life was boiled down to one number, then boy, have I got the story for you. Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness is a visual novel set in, well, it’s set in basically the world that I just described — and we just announced that it will be hitting PS4 and PS Vita in late 2016! You’ll be playing as one of two new detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigation Department’s Division 1. As either a hot-headed Enforcer or serious Inspector, you’ll be investigating compelling cases and uncovering a twisted plot where each turn presents you with decisions that could cause the story to branch in a myriad of directions, and may end up furthering your investigation, or potentially ending your story prematurely. If that sounds exciting and you want to know more, you can check out our official website, or go check out the hit Psycho-Pass anime to get familiar with some of the characters you’ll work with in-game, and get yourself introduced to the world before the game launches later this year! Yomawari: Night AloneIn 2014 we released htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary, a dark and moody puzzle title from our HQ, and later this year we’ll be releasing another PS Vita title — Yomawari: Night Alone — which is a step deeper into the horror arena. Ever been all alone on the street late at night and had the street lamp flicker? You know that tinge of fear that runs through you whether you believe you’re afraid of the dark or not? There’s that little thought that wriggles into the back of your mind and tells you that if you stop walking, if you turn around… that’s the end. A creature of the darkness will envelop you and you’ll be gone. Well, that’s what this game is like. You’ll be exploring the streets late at night in search of your lost dog and sister while staying just out of the grasp of… all that lurks in the dark. Find out more on the game’s official website and remember what it felt like to fear the dark. Touhou Genso Rondo (Working Title)If sweating bullets from fear isn’t your cup of tea, then perhaps sweating bullets from the madness of flying with reckless abandon, dodging projectiles, and blowing bosses into oblivion is! We’ll be bringing a heart-pounding competitive shoot ’em up Touhou Genso Rondo (Working Title) to PS4 via PSN later this year. In Touhou Genso Rondo, you’ll be able to learn about the lovely Touhou characters in Story Mode, and battle your friends in local and online competitive one-on-one action. Develop your own battle style by mixing up your gameplay between blasting away with a variety of special bullet types, and darting in for powerful melee attacks! Once you’ve perfected your skills, jump online to see how you stack up in the leaderboards. More info on this title will be coming soon, but stay tuned to our website for updates! Okay, now it’s back to making sure nobody runs out of HP for our press event, but thanks for checking out our announcements, and I hope you’re as excited as I am! I’ll be back to answer some comments when I get a chance. Until next time, dood! View the full article

  8. Next week, players will face the harsh and unforgiving wilderness of the Stone Age in Far Cry Primal on PS4. This gorgeous, open-world adventure follows a desperate hunter in his quest to find his lost people — and keep the hungry wilds at bay. To celebrate the upcoming launch of Far Cry Primal, we reached out to Creative Director Jean-Christophe Guyot to learn more about Ubisoft’s latest project and how it differs from previous entries in the series (spoilers: it’s quite different). Q: Describe Far Cry Primal in one sentence. A: In the prehistoric world of Oros, you will learn to hunt and tame the mega fauna as you climb the savage food chain in order to become the apex predator. Q: If I never tried the Far Cry series before, will I be lost when I start Primal? A: Each installment of Far Cry stands on its own, so you’ll be able to enjoy Far Cry Primal regardless of if you’ve played previous Far Cry games. We definitely hope you get lost in the savage and majestic world of Oros as never before. Q: What separates Primal from the rest of the series besides its unique setting? A: Dropping players at the bottom of the food chain with only rudimentary tools to start their journey enabled us to explore a very different angle for the Far Cry experience. Nature is savage and dangerous, the night is scary, and hunting animals plays a large role in surviving the Stone Age, not to mention the defense of your territory against other tribes. The player’s toolset is completely fresh with an emphasis on crafting and includes the ability to tame wild animals and use them for combat and hunting. Q: How has the design team approached such a drastic shift in tone, from modern ballistic weapons to Stone Age tools? A: Far Cry is all about creating interesting dynamic situations in the world and giving the players a lot of toys to approach these in any way they want. Because of these mechanics, our approach was to make sure the world was more dynamic than ever with systems colliding in unexpected ways. First of all, we introduced the mega fauna, giant animals that have since disappeared from the surface of the Earth. Second, we have two different tribes fighting for the place you want to claim as well. In order to hunt the beasts and take down the enemy, we’ve given the player a whole new toolset that ranges from brutal weapons like spears, clubs, and bows to throwable traps — and a new taming system that will empower the player to command wild beasts. Want to stalk your enemies? Have a feline by your side who can silently take down your targets. Want to rush in with raging brutality? Send in your giant cave bear to attract the enemy’s attention. There are 17 different beasts to tame, including the infamous Badger. Q: What has the setting allowed the development team to do that was previously impossible either technically or from a design perspective? A: The beast taming and the density of the wildlife really come to mind. But the emphasis on surviving a dangerous world is also something that works well with the setting. Q: Far Cry 4 had a mystical element to its story. Will we see anything similar in Far Cry Primal? A: One of the characters you will meet in Far Cry Primal is Tensay: a crazy Shaman who creates mind-altering decoctions. You will have several opportunities to taste these and witness their effect. Apart from the refreshing and exotic aspect, we also wanted to explore how a shamanistic tribe would approach the mystical connection with the world. Q: How do you create relatable and interesting characters that are so far removed from our modern reality? A: It all comes back to thinking from the Stone Age perspective and looking for those aspirations and themes that translate well into modern narratives. For example: recovery from loss, fighting to ensure that the people you love survive, and draw strength from those people. These are a few elements that we give to the player as they embark on their new journey. Q: How did you decide which animals to include, and which to leave out? A: It was always about giving players great opportunities to play and interact with the world and have fun. Many animals were on the table at first, and then we thought about them in terms of gameplay. The main interest of the mega fauna animals in terms of gameplay comes from the new behaviors we’ve given them for this purpose. For example, when faced with a threat, the Irish elk starts by fleeing, but eventually if it’s injured too much it’s going to turn berserk and fight its attacker. This can lead to a surprising turns of events for the player or for a pack of enemy AI that was chasing it. The Giant mammoth will come to the rescue of younger and smaller ones which can also lead to a very cool chain reaction. And so on. Q: Did the development team take any creative liberties with the worldbuilding and creature design? A: When it comes to world building we try to be as authentic as possible. So we met with a lot of specialists to learn about the Stone Age. Of course there are also a lot of things we don’t know about and gaps to fill but we aimed to make our world feel real and primitive. The domain where we wanted to take some liberties was gameplay. Even if the general themes are in line with the period, we pushed the boundaries to give the player more fun things to experience. For example, humans were taming wolves to help them hunt mammoth — they probably never tamed a saber tooth tiger. Q: What challenges did the team face when writing the AI and behaviors for these animals? A: Having animals like the elder mammoth which is around twice the size of the regular mammoth forced us to adjust the navigation systems used by the AI, and we also had to adapt the structure of the flora and trees to make sure they had enough space. Other than that, the mega fauna animals — like all entities in our game world — are systemic AI. It means they are fully part of our gameplay ecosystem and will adapt naturally to their environment regarding dangers, other animals, fire, threat, navigation paths, etc. And of course they will react to the player’s actions. That’s the plus of having a systemic approach to your gameplay — you can let the mega fauna live its life in your world and adapt to it naturally. Q: How does Primal pace players in an open world? How much of the content is directed and how much of it is emergent/open? A: Everything that happens in the world in terms of systems colliding with each other is not directed, and I must say that players will spend a lot of time watching crazy things happen as they interact with or observe the world and the world’s ecosystems. We of course have great cinematics which are scripted, but even the way we set up the narrative is up to the player to tackle at their own pace. Q: What is your most memorable moment in Far Cry Primal? A: One time I was walking at night and a band of wolves came for me. Suddenly they stopped and ran away. I thought, “Wow, I’m really getting the hang of this.†Suddenly I hear a roar and a giant, rare cave bear was behind me. Wolves were running because of the bear, not me! View the full article

  10. SwapQuest is a mix of a retro RPG with a tile-swapping puzzle game, inspired by classics like Pipe Mania. The idea behind it was to take many of the elements I loved as a child in console RPGs from the 90’s and blend them with a movement system more reminiscent of a puzzle game. Out came SwapQuest on PS Vita, an easy-to-learn yet hard-to-master gaming experience that combines the development of your own character with puzzle levels that feel fresh every time due to their procedural nature. The game started small, but the concept took on a life of its own as more and more RPG elements found their way into the game. The plan was to have SwapQuest ready after six months of development, but as the concept expanded the scope of the game became bigger — in the end it took more than two years to finish. In the beginning there were only the levels with treasure chests, enemies, and NPCs that would heal you or sell new weapons. As development progressed, the NPCs were removed to give them a more prominent role in the game. Additionally, a big overworld was added that the player visits between each level. In order to increase the RPG aspect of SwapQuest even further, the Caravan was created to give the player the option to buy new weapons, upgrade abilities, or enchant equipment. All these additions helped expand SwapQuest from a puzzle game with RPG mechanics to an equal blend of both genres. The PS Vita version of SwapQuest got almost a year of extra time to make it the most refined experience possible. To make it even more special, there is a lot of new content, including three new levels located on a mysterious group of islands, a massive new boss fight, and a new character class called the Tinkerer. The game started purely touch controlled, but by now the button controls have become my favorite way to play SwapQuest. As a life-long console player it feels natural and efficient, and I hope you’ll agree. One thing I’m very proud of and would like to highlight is SwapQuest’s visuals by pixel art wizard Jussi Simpanen and the wonderful soundtrack by Symphonic Square. Without those two I could not have made SwapQuest, and they have my eternal gratitude for that. The art style successfully manages to have a look reminiscent of the 16-bit days, while also creating a vibrant and rich world. Each level has a distinct feel to it and it greatly helps to make the game come alive. For the soundtrack we purposely did not go for the typical 8-bit inspired chiptune music in order to have a more opulent scale fitting the big world you travel through. It gives the levels room to breathe and creates an excellent atmosphere to get into the flow. SwapQuest started small but has grown so much in those two years, both in scale and in what I see in the game as a designer and player. It has become the most ambitious title I’ve worked on and I sincerely hope it will find many fans on PS Vita. Please let us know what you think of the game in the comments below. We’d love to get in touch with the PlayStation community. Have a wonderful time with SwapQuest when it comes out on February 23rd! View the full article
  11. Paragon is a gorgeous, third-person action game with rich layers of strategy. It’s also a MOBA. Did I lose you already? Do you get anxious around that word? Don’t. In fact, forget I said it. Let’s look at the basics, instead: Paragon is a competitive game with two teams of five. Each team tries to push into the opposing team’s base in order to destroy its core — which is protected by automated defenses. That’s it. If you can wrap your mind around that, you can wrap your mind around Paragon. Everything after that is just a few (hundred) practice matches away. A MOBA By Any Other NameParagon, like the great MOBAs before it, is built on several pillars. Understanding these pillars will go a long way in better understanding the genre — and how to play! The Heroes: Paragon has a stylish, diverse roster of heroes. These characters play a variety of roles in battle, from ranged damage dealers to life-saving support. Each hero has a main attack and a set of four abilities — including a tide-turning ultimate. The Items: You can customize your hero in Paragon with an assortment of potions and strength-enhancing items. These items, and the subsequent upgrades you place on them, can define how a hero performs in battle. The Map: Paragon is set in one map. That’s all you need. The map is symmetrical and divided into three lanes that lead from one base to the other. There’s also a labyrinthine jungle that curls and twists between the lanes, giving heroes a sneaky way to traverse the battlefield. It’s a bit scary. The Minions: Each team in Paragon has an AI-controlled army of courageous minions that slowly march on the opposing base. They’re actually pretty adorable. The Towers: Massive towers line each lane on the map which automatically attack the opposing team. Standing within range of their devastating shots can be lethal, so a hero should always wade towards them accompanied by the aforementioned minions. There’s more to MOBAs than that, of course, but keeping these pillars in mind will help you understand the flow of battle. Fool Me OnceParagon benefits enormously from its third-person perspective (most MOBAs are top-down), but it doesn’t control like previous Epic games. Paragon is cautiously paced, deliberate, and deeply statistical. The over-the-shoulder camera helps ground the action and also opens Paragon up to more strategies than a top-down MOBA. You can’t, for example, always see behind you (like you could from a bird’s eye view). That means hero position and sneak attacks are — perhaps — even more dangerous in Paragon. Similarly, the Paragon map plays with elevation much more than other MOBAs. Ranged fighters can gain the high ground and pepper enemies from above, or escape danger from the more-powerful melee heroes. Also, the sloping paths alter line-of-sight frequently, making the inevitable charge up a hill all the more exciting. You Can Be My Hero, BabyThe heroes of Paragon not only alter the way you play, but open windows into Paragon’s lore. Also, they look cool. You have everything from cyber angels to black hole wizards, and their personality is reflected in their moveset. Sparrow guided me through my first few matches. She’s the archer of the group, with a tremendous potential for ranged damage. Her abilities include a charged shot, an increase in rate of fire, a flurry of overhead arrows, and her ultimate Inner Fire — a punishing triple shot that can devour opposing forces. Then we have a more complex character like Gadget, who uses a variety of bots to control the field. Her Gate Bot sets up a damaging wall that hinders enemy troops while granting a speed boost to friendlies. Have you gotten over those cold MOBA sweats now? I hope so, because Paragon has the potential to open the genre up to more players through its clever mix of third-person action and lane-battling goodness. With stunning visuals, complex heroes, and a robust replay editor, Paragon promises to swallow up your free time and ask for seconds. View the full article

  16. Hey everyone! Street Fighter V is here, and we wanted to make sure that everyone starts off on the right foot. With a bit of patience, practice and discipline you’ll be well on your way to becoming an online warrior! Here are a few tips to get folks started, from our friends Mike Ross and Ryan “gootecks†Gutierrez. Watch The Excellent Adventures of gootecks and Mike Ross every Sunday at youtube.com/crosscountertv. Street Fighter V: Tips for Newcomers Street Fighter V: Advanced Tips Mike and gootecks generously provided a handy list of tips too, in case you prefer them in written form: Blocking is the safest thing to do when you are being attacked. Hold down-back on the controller to block low attacks, and back to block high attacks and jump attacks. Blocking will keep you alive longer than recklessly attacking. Your ability to perform the move you want at any given moment is important to capitalizing on opportunities. You can practice your execution in Training Mode and then set the Dummy to CPU to gain experience. Less is more – mashing buttons and panicking will get you nowhere. The game might seem like it’s really fast and overwhelming at first, but with experience, you’ll find that there is plenty of time to react and think against most opponents. If you find yourself panicking under pressure, take a deep breath and remember that the hits don’t actually hurt IRL! Throws are unblockable, do a nice chunk of damage, and are an important part of Street Fighter. You can perform a throw by pressing LK + LP simultaneously; you can counter a throw with the same command if you’re fast enough. Special moves might seem like the most important attacks to learn from your character, but are really just a couple of tools in your character’s toolset. Learning how to use your character’s light, medium, and heavy attacks from standing, crouching, and jumping positions is just as, if not more important, than your special moves. You can explore your character’s moveset in Training Mode and take note of the damage and range properties of each move. There are lots of resources out there available to help you learn, from web sites like Shoryuken and Eventhubs, to tutorials on YouTube and pro players streaming on Twitch. All you need to do is a little research. Try out each of the 16 characters. There’s a good chance that you’ll like more than just one of them and the more you learn about each character, the stronger you will become. Every character has some characters that they struggle against and some that they are strong against. Each character has a unique V-Skill by pressing MP+MK simultaneously. Some characters have defensive V-Skills, others have offensive V-Skills, and some have power-ups. Using your V-Skill successfully builds your V-Gauge which is a very important resource. Your V-Gauge fills up throughout the round. When it’s full, you can activate your V-Trigger by pressing HP+HK simultaneously which uses your entire V-Gauge. Each character’s V-Trigger is unique and all are very powerful in the right hands. V-Gauge resets every round so get used to using it each round because it’s a missed opportunity if you lose the round without using it. V-Reversal is performed by pressing F+PPP or F+KKK when you are blocking. This uses 1 stock of your V-Gauge and is very useful for getting the opponent off of you when you are on defense. Your Critical Art gauge builds fastest when you land attacks. This is an important resource that can be used for Critical Art attacks, which do major damage and cost 3 bars, or EX Special Moves, which are enhanced special moves that cost 1 bar. Use your resources wisely. Stay tuned for more information regarding Street Fighter V — see you online! View the full article

We’ll be selecting applicants in the upcoming weeks. Players accepted into the beta will receive a code to redeem the content. The beta is the full version and those participating will not have to purchase the add-on. Beyond add-ons, we’ll continue to offer free updates to the game, including new features like the increased draw distances for PS4 players, as well as more optimizations to gameplay and quests. And something that we’re really excited about, a complete overhaul of Survival Mode that changes how you play the whole game. Food, sleep, diseases, danger, and more. We’re also hard at work on the Creation Kit, the PC creation tools that will ultimately lead to playing user-created mods on PS4. We’re currently testing both Survival Mode and the Creation Kit now, and more details will be forthcoming. Thanks again for your continued support of Fallout 4. We can’t wait for you to play more! 18. Have your cake and eat it too! We have another update coming today for Fat Princess Adventures on PS4, which includes free content for both Story Mode and Arena Mode. Better grab your weapons and gear up for a return to battle… The first addition is an all-new difficulty option for Story Mode. If you’ve conquered Hard Difficulty and devoured your way through Cakemare Difficulty, prepare yourself for This Means War! Whether you’re up against grunts or bosses, enemies will pose an even harder challenge compared to lower difficulties. You might want to grab a friend or two, or jump into matchmaking, to take this on — running solo will be quite the challenge. If you wish to venture alone with a high-level character, we also raised the level cap to 30. The other piece of content being added is a new Arena Mode map housed within the Salt Mountains. Arena Mode has players face waves upon waves of enemies, all in the name of cake, glory, and sweet, sweet loot. Two other maps were included with the last update, so make sure to check out the Castle and Temple Arenas as well. Speaking of Arena Mode, here are a few tips to help out with the enemy hordes: Eat lots of cake! Use health-boosting equipment or cake-spawning equipment to keep your health topped off. If you find yourself having trouble against very high level enemies in later rounds, use equipment that disrupts or transforms the enemies in order to better manage them. Each arena has a checkpoint placed relatively close the middle of the map — be mindful of where it is just in case you need to switch classes in the middle of a round. Familiarize yourself with the enemies you encountered in Story Mode so that you can form strategies around them when they swarm you and your friends in any Arena Map. Keep an eye out for an item you can pick up in the Temple Arena and place in a certain area that may lead to a sweet surprise… We’ve also added a new set of purchasable DLC — the Back and Badder Loot pack. Add some attitude to your character’s setup, with new gear like the Archer’s Boomstick or the Warrior’s Wargod’s Armor. You can also find a few new additions to cosmetic customization. Finally, Gem Packs are now available for purchase from the store. They’re handy if you’re looking to upgrade a number of weapons or gear items but running a bit short on gems. Fat Princess Adventures is available on PlayStation Store now, and make sure to check out the official Fat Princess website for more morsels of news and updates. For cake and country! 20. It’s been some time since we last left off with The Walking Dead series at Telltale in the summer of 2014. Since then, we’ve been hard at work with Robert Kirkman and the team at Skybound Entertainment in fleshing out some very big ideas for where to take things next. The first two seasons of our series followed the stories of Lee Everett, Clementine, and Kenny — focusing on these predominately original characters from Telltale, along with appearances from characters like Glenn and Hershel. Beyond that, we haven’t truly taken the opportunity to explore some of our favorite characters from the comics in rich detail… until now. Among all of the iconic characters in Robert Kirkman’s universe, Michonne has been a fan favorite here at the studio. Without spoiling the story of the frankly incredible comics, there comes a point in time where she leaves Rick and her group of survivors to explore some of her inner demons on her own. Where she goes and what stories unfold during this time away have always been largely a mystery in the storyline. But this miniseries on PS4 and PS3 presents the perfect opportunity for us to take the reins. Playing as Michonne makes for a signature Telltale experience. Deeply haunted by some of the decisions of her past, Michonne was the mother of two children when she was making headway in her career as a lawyer. With priorities shifting away from her family during the devastating outbreak, she is forever regretful of her inability to be there to save her family. In the extended preview video, we step into the shoes and the mind of Michonne for the first time, as today we are revealing the first look at the miniseries’ prologue. Writing and designing for a complex and powerful character like Michonne has been a dream for the studio, and we’re incredibly excited for everyone to play this miniseries when it premieres for download on February 23rd! The second episode will follow in March, and conclude in April not long afterward. While we highly recommend reading the comics, and of course, playing previous seasons of our series, prior knowledge or save files are not necessary, and the miniseries will be available as a stand-alone product. So whether you’re a longtime fan, or new to this series, Michonne is a great place to start! Beyond the miniseries, we’re also very hard at work on a full third season of The Walking Dead. We don’t expect to have any details until sometime after this miniseries concludes, but given what’s planned for the future, we don’t think you’ll want to miss this story before what’s to come. It’s looking to be a very big year of the undead at Telltale! Thanks for reading, and as always, let us know if you have any questions in the comments! View the full article

  22. Hello, everyone! Things move fast with Final Fantasy XIV, and we’ve already arrived at Patch 3.2, which will be hitting the servers of our critically acclaimed MMO in less than two weeks. More and more content is flowing into the game, but what’s great for our experienced players can be confusing for beginners, who may be daunted by the huge breadth of content they have to scale. To help them brave this challenge, Patch 3.2 will introduce the Mentor system – and we had the exclusive opportunity to ask Naoki Yoshida, the Producer and Director of Final Fantasy XIV, some questions about it. Q: Thank you for taking the time for this Q&A, Mr. Yoshida. FFXIV is a global phenomenon with players in Japan, Europe, North America, Korea and China on PS3, PS4, PC and Mac. To support and offer players constant content updates, you must be a very busy man! Do you get any sleep at all? A: Hello, PlayStation.Blog readers! I’m Naoki Yoshida, the producer and director of FFXIV. Luckily (?) I got the flu on 5th of February, so I’ve been stuck at home since then! But as we were in the middle of the final checks on Patch 3.2 content, I asked to be given access to the development servers from home and worked “comfortably†checking the new content from there! Q: The mentor system is going to be introduced in Patch 3.2, which hits the FFXIV servers on the February 23rd. Can you tell us roughly what the mentor system is and why you have chosen to implement this feature? A: “Mentor†is a special status for experienced players, who are only able to call themselves mentors after obtaining certain achievements and meeting certain criteria. Mentors are players who support beginners who have just started their adventures in-game and answer their questions from the standpoint of a seasoned veteran. Mentorship is also a new element to help those who role play and to further enhance the player community. With the arrival of Patch 3.2, a special chat channel called the Novice Network will be added to each world. This chat channel can only be used by mentors and new players who have played the game for less than 40 hours. The purpose of this channel is to offer a place for new players to ask mentors about the game and for mentors to give answers to their questions. To eliminate the prospect of any malicious RMT (Real Money Traders) from invading the chat channel, we made it so only mentors can invite new players into it. On top of that, when a mentor and new player form a party, they will both receive an experience point bonus. In addition to this, a special duty roulette called “Duty Roulette: Mentor†that is only available for mentors will be added. This roulette will grant a priority on matching mentors with new players or players who haven’t beaten the specific dungeon or trial yet. MMORPGs offer a huge amount of content and gameplay systems, so I can imagine how playing one could potentially be overwhelming for some players, especially when they play an MMORPG or online game for the first time. However, the introduction of the mentor system with this new patch enables veteran players to proactively support those who have started the game recently, creating an opportunity for both veteran players and rookies to meet and get to know each other. Now is a very good time for anyone who hasn’t played the game before to begin! To any experienced players out there, I’d love for you all to support our new players. I’m also ready to be a mentor on my personal character. Q: That’s pretty cool, and I’m sure many new players will appreciate this. So, how will I, as an experienced veteran adventurer of Eorzea, be able to sign up to be a mentor? Are there any tests or trials I have to master, to test my mettle? A: As I mentioned earlier, players need to obtain certain achievements to be a mentor. Requirements for those who are geared towards battle content are: At least one level 60 job in each role of tank, healer and DPS To have completed a total of more than 1,000 dungeons and trials and… … to have received 300 or more commendations If your expertise is more focused on gathering and crafting, your requirements will be: At least one level 60 class in both a crafting and gathering class To have crafted over 100 collectables, and… … to have gathered 300 collectables By fulfilling either one of these two requirements, you will be able to become a mentor by speaking to a certain NPC. Q: Sounds like quite a challenge! Will I get any benefits from becoming a mentor? A: The basic concept behind the mentor system is to allow players the ability to volunteer their time, which can also be seen as a form of role-playing. However, mentors will also be able to get special achievements and titles after you use the mentor roulette at certain number of times. In the future, we also plan to add special rewards after obtaining certain achievements. That being said, we made the amount of rewards for mentors small to reduce the number of players who may become mentors purely to get their hands on rewards. I think the biggest reward for a mentor is that they can see how new players grow and become fully-fledged adventurers! Well, at least I’m looking forward to witnessing these moments! Q: Well, good deeds are best rewarded with a smile! Now, imagine I am a completely new player who has just logged into the game for the first time. Will the game introduce mentors to me? How will I find them? A: Players out in the field or in towns have a name-plate above them and mentor characters will have a crown icon next to their name, so it will be easy to spot them. New players have a sprout icon next to their name instead. By just being in the Novice Network channel, you’ll see many mentors logged in so feel free to simply ask them some questions. They will answer your questions wherever they are and they may even run to your aid! Q: Ah, easy to pick up then. So, now I’m a new player with a mentor. How does that influence the way I play? Is it possible to reward or rate my mentor for giving good advice? A: If you and your mentor form a party and go into a dungeon, both of you will gain more experience than usual. This will also happen when you participate in Full Active Time Events (FATEs), which appear in the open world. Also, a lot of mentors will be knowledgeable about the combat basics of the class, job and role that you play, so just ask them if you are unsure of something and they’ll give you great advice. When you get closer to mentors, they may also invite you to a Linkshell or Free Company that they are already a member of. If your mentor does a good job, please be sure to thank them! We believe your words of gratitude and encouragement will mean more than any in-game rewards, and make their mentor status something to be proud of. Q: That’s awesome – will that work together with the recruit-a-friend program? If my friend is a mentor, that is. Can new players with the free trial use it as well? A: If you are certified to be a mentor, of course. All players with a playtime of under 40 hours can benefit from the mentor system. Q: Sounds like an impressive new feature that will make life much easier for new players! But that’s not the only thing which will help them that’s coming in Patch 3.2, is it? What exactly is the “Hall of the Novice A: The Hall of the Novice is a place for new players to do some training and to earn knowledge of the game systems before moving on to dungeons. It features two elements: One is a series of challenges that allow you to train and play, and the other is a building packed with helpful NPCs that offer game tips. Both are available for players when they reach level 15, just before you enter the first dungeon while doing the main scenario. Just follow the main scenario and you will be guided there eventually. With the training mode, you will be able to learn the basics of playing in a party for each of the three roles: Tank, Healer and DPS while learning the ropes as you play. After completing the training modes, you will be rewarded with cool gear, so I recommend that you first clear all the content the Hall of the Novice has to offer before you enter the first dungeon. Q: Well, that sounds like a fantastic addition to the game that will make it easier for new adventurers to find their way in Eorzea. Thank you once again for taking the time to speak to us. We’re looking forward to Patch 3.2 and beyond! A: The development team is in the middle of making final adjustments to content ahead of the release of Patch 3.2, the first major content update in 2016. Our only enemy is influenza! We’ll do our best to get through this tough time and deliver the new update to you all. Thank you everyone and see you in Eorzea! So, what did you think of that? As a veteran, will you be helping new players as a mentor? As someone who has never played before, do you plan on signing up for the free trial, or are you even considering buying the game straight away on PlayStation Store? Let us know in the comments! 24. It’s time to unpack your gear and start downloading. The Hitman Beta launches today for those of you that preordered the game. This is one of those moments where every single developer at Io-Interactive is keenly focused on what’s happening out in the world. We’ll be watching as you progress through the “Prologue,†as we call it, and take notes on everything that happens along the way to make sure everything is shiny and ready for the March 11th launch of the first episode of Hitman. Earlier in the week, we published a Beta FAQ to give you a first look at what’s included in the Prologue. The Prologue features two missions from Agent 47’s past. They represent that key moment, twenty years before the events that take place in Hitman, when Agent 47 meets his future handler Diana Burnwood and becomes a part of the International Contract Agency. During these two training missions, hosted at a secret ICA training facility, 47 gets to show the directors of the ICA exactly what he’s made of. With 50 challenges and many inventive ways of getting rid of your targets, you’ll have your hands full over this coming weekend. In addition to challenges, the Beta also introduces the new opportunity system, which allows players to discover some of the more elaborate kills the game has to offer. If you feel like discovering everything on your own, opportunities can be disabled and you’re left to find clues and hone in on the right moment to strike all on your own, of course. Square Enix will be hosting a livestream of the Beta today at 10 AM Pacific and we’ll be along in the comments watching as our friends in the LA and London offices take the Beta for a spin. This Beta is an important milestone for us and an important step towards making this game the best it can be. Please join us on the official forums and let us know how you like the Beta. Your feedback is extremely important and valued and will help us as we continue through the months, releasing new locations, new hits, and new live content for Hitman. Remember that PS4 players will also get exclusive access to The Sarejevo Six. These are six bonus contracts that tell a self-contained side-story revolving around former members of a paramilitary unit called CICADA. The first PS4 exclusive contract is called The Director and will be available when the game launches on March 11th. Your target is Scott Sarno, Director of European Operations for the CICADA private military corporation.
