I get to be Donatello. At some point, every hardcore TMNT fan picks a favorite. It’s not a selection that we take lightly, and maybe that’s because we know that our Turtle will become something of a lifelong friend. So, we carefully weigh each character’s pros and cons and make our choice based on the Turtle that resonates with our own personality. It might not be a conscious decision, but very few TMNT fans waver after making their initial selection. Myself? I’m usually more of a “Mikey†kind of guy, but Donnie has the coolest moves. So, if you and I ever play the co-op mode in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, I get to be Donnie. I called him first. Before we play, though, you’ll need to select a Turtle. Leonardo’s katanas make him the most well rounded character, thanks to his medium-ranged reach and moderate attack speed. Raphael, on the other hand, is a little bit slower, but he’s a powerhouse. And even though Mikey’s nunchucks limit his strike zone, his attacks are the speediest of the bunch. And Donatello? His staff gives him the longest reach; so I’ll handle the ranged attacks. If you’ve ever played a title from PlatinumGames, you’ll feel right at home with this one. The combat is fast-paced, silky smooth, and customizable. Each Turtle’s distinctive fighting style compliments the others’ during an online co-op campaign, but you’ll need to select your teammates carefully. Co-op games require constant communication and collaboration, so you probably shouldn’t partner up with that friend who doesn’t reply to text messages for weeks at a time. Fans of the comic book series will definitely be familiar with the game’s art. PlatinumGames’ took a lot of inspiration from TMNT artist Mateus Santolouco, combining his distinctive style with their signature visuals, animations, and combat. Also, did I mention Bebop and Rocksteady? Shredder’s long-time accomplices are making their way back to the video game realm, along with a slew of other iconic enemies. And, for the record, the boss fights are crazy. Every boss has a collection of specialized maneuvers and weapons, forcing players to devise a unique plan of attack and adjusting that plan when everything goes wrong. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan is the game that the fanatics have been salivating for. And I can say that with confidence, because I haven’t stopped drooling since starting the project. We’re anticipating a Summer 2016 release on PS4 and PS3. Which Turtle will you choose? Hi everyone! If all has gone well, then right now as you read this (or else very soon from now!) you can download The Witness on PlayStation Store. It’s been a long road to get here and we have worked very hard to make the best game we can. It is the best thing I have ever worked on, and being able to put it out in the world, it’s a good feeling. Reviews have started coming in already and they are very good! If you haven’t heard of the game before now (or have heard of it but don’t know what it is or why it’s interesting!), and think you might enjoy a game where you explore an abandoned island and solve puzzles, go ahead and check out a few reviews. But if you are already interested in the game, I would encourage you to stay away from reviews, because some parts of the game are *very* spoilable. You’ll have the best experience if you start completely in the dark. The Witness | PlayStation Store I want to thank everyone at Sony who gave us so much support over the past few years. It was a very unusual step at the time for Sony to invite an independent developer like us to their console launch announcement — as far as I know, it was unprecedented — and it was a nice experience for us, and it probably helped a lot of new people find out about the game. Since then Sony has hosted us at E3 and PSX several times, and helped us in many ways when it came to building the best game we could for the PlayStation 4. Lastly, I want to thank everyone out there who has supported the game, just by being interested in it — whether you enjoyed my previous game, Braid, or found out about The Witness in some other way. And I would like to thank the players who are about to have a very interesting time with the game and don’t even know it yet! I take the practice of game design very seriously. When I sit down to design a game I work very hard for a long time to make it good. And I can only do that — and build that game with talented people — because of the support of all the players out there who are looking for new and boundary-pushing experiences. Thank you! -Jonathan View the full article

Today I’m pleased to share an important new moment in PlayStation history that will power the next 20 years of PlayStation innovation. We are announcing the formation of a new company called Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC (SIE) that will serve as the headquarters for everything PlayStation. This new company, headquartered out of the United States in San Mateo, California, joins the forces of both Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and Sony Network Entertainment LLC, combining the strengths and talents of both companies. The formation of SIE will create an even stronger PlayStation. That means an even bigger emphasis on developing pioneering platforms like PS4 and PlayStation VR, world-class games from our Worldwide Studios development teams, and innovative network services such as PlayStation Vue. It also means a renewed commitment to making PlayStation the best place to play. Thank you for joining us on this important step in PlayStation history. And as always, we are deeply grateful for your continued support and feedback. We’re excited to undertake this next step in PlayStation history with you! View the full article

Hi! I’m Steve Bowler, lead designer on Gemini: Heroes Reborn. I’m here to share a few things about our game (which launches this week on PS4) and the way we designed it. The Interface Should Be So Natural You Don’t Notice ItGemini has what designers refer to as diegetic UI. Which means the game’s UI “has a reason to be displayed in the game world.†When we first started on the project, the fitness wearables market was heating up. So we did a prototype of what “Apple Glasses†might look like as the player’s main visual user interface. I imagined SMS text bubbles as a way to cover subtitling, health apps running in the corner could monitor your vitals, etc. We wound up with something that is unobtrusive and effectively communicates the game data the player. It’s also cool how the player comes across the interface in-game. It’s natural and happens in a way that adds to the excitement of the moment when they’re sprung on you. It’s not every day we get to tie the UI into the game’s mechanics and narrative, so this was a really fun experiment. It’s Like Portal + BioShock Infinite + Mirror’s EdgeYou’ve seen Everything is a Remix, right? No one invents something 100% original, so when people ask what influenced design decisions, I like to be honest. We didn’t want to be a direct damage powers game. Be it guns, laser beams, breathing fire, etc. To stand out we had to not compete with other best-of-breed first-person combat games. Environment Navigation: A Lighter Mirror’s Edge We hate it when the player runs into one of those “I could easily get over this obstacle in real life†game-isms. And I’m not just talking about railings. If there’s a 6 foot high wall, any remotely athletic individual should be able to grab and pull themselves up. Our solution was to “look into†Mirror’s Edge (one of our favorites) to see how they were solving edge-finding for player navigation. They used a no-mark-up system of ray and box traces to find real-world edges, and if the player pawn bumped into one in the correct way, the game would pull the player up. We mocked up a similar system and were scaling cargo containers and grabbing perilous ledges with our fingertips in no time! Time-shifting: Yes They’re Portals To differentiate Gemini from other super power based games we use a Time Travel ability. When first-time players shift from the ruined Present location to the pristine Past, everyone gasps. It definitely leaves an impression. It also allows us to craft some neat puzzle elements that players probably haven’t experienced yet. For example, making them go back in time to a point where a blocked door in the present was left open in the past. It also allows for a quick retreat when necessary. It forces players to think spatially, and temporally, similar to how people would play Portal. Stop. Think about where you want to go and how you would get there. Then execute the plan. BioShock Hands; Elizabeth’s Tears Every time our player’s hand comes up to do an ability, everyone likes to point out “So, BioShock, eh?†Yup! Look, BioShock didn’t invent waving the player character’s hand in front of the face, but they took it to new communication heights. So we leaned on what they started and went from there. We also borrowed from BioShock Infinite. Our Time Scout ability lets you peek through time so you can “look before you leap.†Infinite has this with Elizabeth’s Tears. However, hers happen at an explicit point in a level and the narrative. Ours is a game mechanic that you could use however and whenever you want, not a narrative plot point. For example, follow a guard who is walking in the Past while you’re in the Present in order to time your jump. No, You Can’t Use a Gun… On Purpose! From day one we decided to make a conscious game design decision: the player can’t use a gun. Period. If you suddenly had amazing superpowers that allowed you to bend reality, stop time, catch bullets, and throw vending machine sized objects using your mind, you shouldn’t need to use a gun. They’re way beneath you on the power scale. And if you were an everyday college student like our character, could you even use one effectively? This isn’t Our First Superheroes RodeoOur desire to have player intent and game mechanics (vs. Narrative) drive the minute-to-minute player choice is because of our pedigree. While at Midway games we worked on a project called Hero. After founding Phosphor Games we decided to try and recreate it as “Project Awakened.†It was a game about hero character customization and ability choices. As it turns out Tim Kring saw it and approached us to do Gemini as a result. View the full article

Hey everyone! I’ve been itching to tell you about this for the longest time, and now I finally can! We’re happy to reveal the single-player story details for Street Fighter V. There are two main components to the story experience: Character Stories and the Cinematic Story Expansion. Character StoriesWe knew there would be a lot of new players who are jumping into the franchise for the very first time, so we wanted to provide a way for everyone to become familiar with the eclectic personalities of each fighter. Each character has his or her own storyline that provides background information on what drives him or her to fight, and what that fighter’s relationships are to the other characters. Each story has been illustrated by renowned Japanese illustrator Bengus who worked on a variety of Capcom titles in the past. I think you’ll find his colorful, throwback style fits perfectly with the background tales we want to tell about each character. What answers does Ryu seek in his never-ending journey? What happened to Charlie Nash after his apparent demise in Street Fighter Alpha? Who is Necalli and what does he want? Play the Character Stories to find out all these answers and more! Once you complete all of them you’ll be ready for the next part of the story experience, which is… Cinematic Story ExpansionFor the first time in franchise history, we are creating a cinematic story experience that takes players deep into the Street Fighter action and mythology through beautifully rendered cutscenes. The Story Expansion will be available to all players as a free content update, releasing in June 2016. Chronologically in the Street Fighter storyline, it takes place between the events of Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter III, and fully explains everything that transpired in that electrifying time period. If you got goosebumps from watching our latest story trailer, know that you are definitely not alone. M. Bison and Shadaloo will be a main focus of the story… and I can’t say much more than that right now. We’ll have more details to share about this free update in the coming months, so stay tuned! Finally, as a big thank you to all the fans who have supported us throughout the year, we are holding one final beta starting January 30th at 12:01 AM Pacific and ending January 31th at 7:00 PM Pacific. If you have been on the fence about getting the game, this will be your last chance to try it out before release so be sure to pre-order for beta access, as well as exclusive costumes! I mean, just look at this guy! That’s all for now. Until next time! View the full article

Greetings, PlayStation.Blog! It’s Ben Tester here from Wales Interactive bringing you great news on the upcoming PS4 kart racer Coffin Dodgers! We’ve teamed up with UK-based developers Milky Tea Studios to bring you an old age pensioner’s race for survival in Spring 2016. After settling down for some peace and tranquillity, the residents of the retirement village Sunny Pines have been idling away the days. That is until a creepy new resident, Mr. Grim Reaper, looks set to turn retirement on its head. After years trawling the earth for souls to harvest, Mr. Grim Reaper lays his hat in the village of Sunny Pines where he will harvest souls from the comfort of his rocking chair. However, seven of the sprightliest OAPs have other ideas and set out to terminate Grim’s morbid plans with a mobility scooter race to the death! Prove your worthiness in the tournament and unlock the Grim Reaper himself. With the aid of his trusty scythe, you’ll continue the story and capture the souls of Sunny Pines for yourselves. Battle your friends! With a 2-4 player local multiplayer mode you can actively battle and knock your friends from their mobility scooters, get tangled up in epic crashes, and cause mayhem. The “Road Rash†style player-to-player combat features wacky weapons and collectable destructive power-ups to stop your mates in their tracks. Watch your frail backs, because you’re never too far away from an EMP powered defibrillator. Further game modes range from single-player story, time trials, quick races, and the open-world “Crazy Granddad†game where you race against the clock to find special items in the Sunny Pines district. Have a need for speed? Get out your wallets as you’ll be spending your well-earned coins in the Garage where you can unlock and upgrade your very own pimped-up mobility scooter. Here you can buff up your kart bodies, swap out your engine parts, choose new paint jobs, or upgrade your weapons… you’ll need these if you plan on beating Grim over the finish line. Choose your mods carefully to suit your driving style and build the scooter that will literally save your soul. Coffin Dodgers is coming to PS4 in Spring 2016, so keep an eye out for further details. We’d love to hear your feedback so please feel free to leave comments below. Thank you all for reading! Race In Peace. View the full article

Bombs have been dropped, missiles launched, and railguns railed in Hardware: Rivals — the explosive, over-the-top, vehicle combat game launched earlier this month. We’re pleased to provide an update on some of the free content and features that will be coming your way today. 1.07 UpdateToday we are releasing our 1.07 update, which directly addresses some of the feedback we’ve received from the community and cranks up the dials on a number of systems. You’ll find weapons pack more of a punch, vehicles are faster, and there’s a bunch of free add-ons to unlock and game modes to try out over the coming days and weeks! We’ve also added new control options to help players get to grips with Combat Driving. Not only that, we’ve got two new vehicles for you to take for a spin: the Scarab FAV and Barbarian tank, coming with a full range of new skins and a fresh set of add-ons! There’s a load more fixes and tweaks in 1.07 and you can find more detailed patch notes in the Official Forums. Free Sharefactory ThemeAnd there’s more — the official Hardware: Rivals Sharefactory theme is now available for free today. With your video editing skills use the official theme to show off your takedowns, lucky escapes, and impossible shots in the style that they deserve. We’ll be rolling out regular updates and next month we’ll be adding a host of new free content, including… Ranked Play SeasonsNow that you’ve gotten a grip on the essentials of combat driving, it’s time to prove yourself in our upcoming Ranked Play Seasons. By defeating drivers of equal status, you will earn your stripes and rise up through the ranks. The higher you climb, the tougher it gets — with only the best of the best reaching the top. There will be new, exclusive add-ons and skins to earn each Season as you rank up. Special EventsThe events calendar is filling up fast. This weekend, we’ll be running two special events, with brand new skins awarded to those who complete each event. There are plenty of mid-week and weekend events still to come, so get involved on the official community forum and tell us what event you would like to see! A lot of people having been asking about new maps so here’s a quick teaser… Mojito BayLooking for a lawless equatorial dictatorship where the launching of latest high-tech, black market ballistic weaponry is positively encouraged? Then Mojito Bay is just the place for you! Stalk your opponents through a rain-soaked naval yard in the shadow of a vast aircraft carrier, containing an experimental weapon system that every combat driver will want to try. Hardware: Rivals is currently free for PlayStation Plus members this month, so be sure to download the game if you haven’t already. If it’s been a while since you last played, come back and give it another go! We’ll be posting more details on this and other upcoming free content in the community forum. As always, we love to hear your feedback so keep the comments coming! View the full article

Hello, PlayStation fans! My name is Aurelien Loos, producer at Leikir Studio, an indie game maker in France. We’re a brand new studio and we try to bring grand new ideas to our game design. For example, our first game — Isbarah — combined action-platforming gameplay with bullet-hell (i.e. “danmakuâ€) action. Isbarah is a very hardcore game. With our next game, we wanted to make something that anyone could pick up and enjoy. We also wanted to have a big focus on multiplayer — we have fond memories of playing “couch competition†games where you play with buddies right next to you. And as big PlayStation fans, it’s especially exciting for our team to bring our next title to PS4 — Wondershot! Wondershot is a top-down, multiplayer focused party game. The controls are simple and responsive, and the rule is quite straightforward: “one shot and you’re down.†Four players can go head-to-head and use one of four weapons. Each weapon has its own special ability, which is especially useful with the constantly shifting map environments. There’s also cooperative play where buddies can take on waves of wicked CPU-enemies. We had a chance to show this off at a recent games convention in Paris, and even got an award! We’re absolutely thrilled to bring the game to PS4 in the coming months. View the full article

Just like the game itself, the life of Pixel Piracy has been a wonderful adventure that constantly surprises. Welcome aboard, you scallywags! We’re thrilled to bring Pixel Piracy to PS4 alongside 505 Games and Re-Logic. Abstraction Games has done an awesome job bringing our PC indie hit to console, and we’re grateful to have them all as part of our pirate crew! I actually wanted to get into games because I saw that Andrew Spinks (Re-Logic, Terraria fame) had been in the military and had changed his life to pursue his dreams . Likewise I was stuck in the army on the Jordanian/Iraq border getting mortared daily and thought that there was more to life than that! Andrew really inspired me to grab my dreams, turn my life around, and make them happen. It’s funny how things turn out, because Re-Logic published the game when we were ready to launch on PC, so my dreams came utterly true! My life changed when I met Vitali Kirpu, an insanely talented one-man-band developer who had this awesome game demo which ultimately became Pixel Piracy… and the rest is history. Over time we’ve added more folks to the Pixel team and added a ton of new content to the game, making it the deepest, open-world pirate RPG sim that ever did live. The great thing for console players is that they get all of the major PC update content already baked into the launch version. We’ve partnered with 505 Games on the PS4 launch. The team has done a great job with Abstraction to make improvements to the UI and to make sure the console controls are nailed, and giving it the all-around piratey polish it needed to bring it to the masses. If you like pirates, this is the game for you. If you like the sound of recruiting a motley crew and sailing the seven seas in search of booty, other pirate crews to kill, chasing chickens, building your ship block by block, cleaning the poop deck, boarding enemy ships, then jump aboard. It also has this wonderful pixel look — the title gives that away — but don’t be fooled; this is a really deeply layered RPG simulation that rewards time spent and exploration. Our pirate dudes are only a few pixels high but they are cheeky and deadly in equal measure. Let us know what you think — or otherwise you might be the next to the walk the plank! We’re super excited to announce that the critically acclaimed Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, this generation’s best couch co-op experience (in our totally unbiased opinion), is coming to PS4 on February 9th! Hooray! Team up with a friend (or a pet space-cat in 1P mode) and take control of a huge space battleship, dashing between turrets, engines, shields and super-weapons to battle the evil forces of Anti-Love, rescue kidnapped space-bunnies, and avoid a vacuumy demise. The League Of Very Empathetic Rescue Spacenauts (LOVERS) is depending on you! Did we mention that Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is launching just in time for Valentine’s Day? If you have a significant other, we recommend staying in, sitting on the couch, and arguing over who has the shield, fighting over the captain’s chair, and screaming “OMG, what is that? Run!†After all, nothing says “love†like a barrage of missiles exploding into a giant robotic space beetle. But wait! Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is not just for lovers — you can partner and play with just about anyone. The PS4 version includes new difficulty modes to accommodate even more player skill levels, so you can explore the colorful but dangerous galaxy with your friends, roommates, siblings, parents, children, strangers, acquaintances, grandparents, and even your space-cat. Lovers harkens back to the awesome couch co-op adventures we all had as kids, but updated with 1080p neon and 200% more cosmic buzzsaws. The fate of your battleship depends on both players at all times — and nobody gets left behind. For those of you out there who want to take on the challenge of piloting the ship yourself in 1-Player mode, don’t worry because we also have you covered. Team up with an AI controlled space-dog named Doppler or a space-cat named Kepler. Command your space-pet to use the stations in order to keep your ship safe. They’re better than you at just about everything except flying… because who in their right mind would let a dog fly a ship? Deep space is a dangerous place, but you don’t have to face it alone! Hey PlayStation.Blog readers! We hope everyone had a great holiday. Here at Team17, we’ve got a lot of exciting games coming to PS4 in 2016 — the first of which I’m here to tell you about today is the awesome The Escapists The Walking Dead! Yes, that’s right — we’ve taken our breakout hit The Escapists and merged it with the well-loved universe that is Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic series. We’ve taken the very best of both worlds and lovingly recreated comic panels, dialogue, and the story of the award-winning comic series within the charming 8-bit style of The Escapists. Starting the game, you’ll take on the role of iconic protagonist Rick Grimes as he wakes up in the Harrison Memorial Hospital. This first tutorial level matches that very first issue of The Walking Dead comic, and sees Rick encounter his first walkers in the hospital. The levels will then follow the timeline of the comics, seeing Rick travel to various locations such as the Greene Family Farm, Meriwether Correctional Facility, Woodbury, and Alexandria. In fact, our game spans right up to around issue 83 of the comic! You’ll get to meet other familiar characters from the hit series along the way including Carl, Lori, Glenn, Hershel, Maggie, Dale, Tyreese, Michonne, Abraham, and Gabriel. As Rick, you must take care of your survivors by performing headcounts, and cleaning up the compound to avoid getting overrun with walkers. Fans of The Escapists will be glad to know crafting is still a big part of the game. Choosing from over 250 materials, you’ll be able to craft more than 70 different items to keep your survivors safe including tools like cutters and shovels, and weapons such as the modified pistol and rifle. We’ve absolutely loved teaming up with Skybound Entertainment on this and we can’t wait to see you on the leaderboards when The Escapists The Walking Dead launches for PS4 on February 16th. Howdy folks! This is Paul from Camouflaj. I’m really excited to announce that Republique will be coming to PS4 on March 22nd! Some of you might remember Republique from our hairbreadth success on Kickstarter a few years back. Now, after many years of development, the five-episode Republique saga is finally ready for launch. The upcoming PS4 version will coincide with the completion of the fifth and final episode so all PS4 players will be able to experience Republique in a complete, long-form fashion. For those of you not familiar with Republique, it’s a story-driven stealth action game heavily inspired by the 32-bit era. At the start of the game, players form a partnership with Hope, a young woman trapped inside a secret totalitarian nation called Metamorphosis. From there, players hack into surveillance cameras and guide Hope to freedom over the course of the five-part campaign. Every episode introduces new enemies, environments, puzzles, and thematic elements, all feeding into a heavy commentary on privacy and security in the internet age. You might be surprised to read this, but the decision to bring Republique to PS4 was not an easy one. As many of you already know, our team here at Camouflaj puts a lot of thought into input methods and what that means for the player’s role in the story. With the mobile release, we labored over a “one touch†control scheme, and then with the desktop release, we transformed the game into a hotkey-friendly mouse and keyboard experience. From there, we knew that transitioning Republique to a true console experience is the natural next evolution of the game, but one huge barrier stood in our way: how the heck would the game control with a DualShock 4? Everything started with a secret prototype that Ryan, one of our designers, was quietly working on with Paulo, a programmer friend from Brazil. Ignoring suggestions that the game should play like a console RTS (with players issuing simple commands for Hope) or that we shift the game into an over-the-shoulder action game, Paulo and Ryan set out to give players complete control over Hope, much in the fashion of our favorite 32-bit games like Metal Gear Solid, Parasite Eve, and Deep Fear. After about a month of experimentation, it was revealed to the team. Even in its rough state, the DualShock 4 prototype demonstrated the potential of a PS4 version of Republique. From there, we entered into a partnership with GungHo Online Entertainment and began work in earnest on rebuilding Republique into a true PS4 experience. Underneath all the excitement in the studio about our partnership with GungHo and the PS4 version, it’s impossible to deny that there was an undercurrent of anxiety about whether we could really pull this off… The turning point for the project was PAX Prime. Thanks to GungHo, Republique had a huge presence at the show with twenty playable PS4 stations on display at their big purple booth. Not only was it a relief to see players seamlessly control the game with DualShock 4, but it was a rare opportunity to connect with fans of the game. While dodging questions about release dates and hardcore story questions, we had a transformative experience at PAX. Thanks to our dev partners at Darkwind Media, we arrived with a work-in-progress build that demonstrated our controller-friendly Hope actions and intuitive button UI for OMNI View. PAX was the turning point for the project, and gave us the confidence we needed to drive towards the finish line. I don’t want to get too technical, but I do want to point out a few key components that fuel the PS4 version. Firstly, we built a cover system from scratch with new, motion-captured animations. The fixed camera perspectives — which were my biggest concern initially — ended up being a huge asset. The analog controls flow naturally from one perspective to the next without impeding player movement, a trick we learned from playing a lot of old school Devil May Cry. We also spent many late nights with the Darkwind crew figuring out how to translate our “touch-friendly†OMNI hacking controls to DualShock 4. After prototyping a half dozen or so schemes, we landed on a button-focused solution powered by a bunch of under-the-hood game logic. (Please don’t ask me to explain how it works.) With the March 22nd release of Republique rapidly approaching, it’s a thrill that we’re able to crash the party on PlayStation.Blog today and announce that not only is GungHo releasing the game both digitally on PlayStation Store and physically in retailers, but that both versions will have access to new and original outfits for Hope. These outfits not only look great, but also unlock unique gameplay features that transform the way you’ll experience the game in subsequent playthroughs (Internally, we’re seeing average first playthroughs last between 10 to 15 hours). Even if you’re familiar with Republique — heck, especially if you are — we’re hopeful that its remarkable transformation on PS4 is going to surprise you. We were also very fortunate to have the opportunity to collaborate with Sony Computer Entertainment in the making of a unique outfit paying homage to Gravity Rush as additional exclusive content for the PS4 version. In closing, I just want to say that bringing Republique to PS4 really feels like a homecoming. We think we’ve got something special on our hands, especially for players itching for a game heavily inspired by classic 32-bit survival horror and stealth action games of the inaugural PlayStation era. Whether you’re a fan of those games or not, Republique’s hard-hitting story and voiceover performances from industry legends like Jennifer Hale, David Hayter, and Dwight Schultz really stand on their own, all held together by Rena Strober’s breakthrough performance as Hope. I think I can speak for the Camouflaj and Darkwind teams when I say we’re ecstatic to be sharing Republique with a whole new audience on PS4. Thanks so much for reading this, and Keep Hope Alive! Imagine a world of robots partying after the annihilation of humankind. NeuroVoider will show you what this theoretical world would look like. Play as one of the four remaining human brains kept as tests subjects in a futuristic world where machines have overpowered the human race. Lead humanity’s last hope against the Evil Robots lead by the master NeuroVoider. NeuroVoider is an action-packed, top-down, twin-stick shooter featuring RPG mechanics. Playable with up to four friends cooperatively, it’s an hack ‘n’ slash rampage with a pinch of rogue-lite elements… and a bunch of explosions. You’ll play to loot and assemble parts of your robotic foes in order to build your own robotic entity to pilot. Fight your way through the oppression in a procedurally generated world with up to 8,736 unique enemies (Yes, we counted) and gigantic bosses that will hardly fit on your screen. A local multiplayer game about brains shooting evil robots with nuclear rocket launchers? This should ease your fear of robots, doesn’t it? Oh! And to top it off, play over the sound of the powerful dark synth music by Dan Terminus. May your ears survive the beat. A Small Team of Shooter LoversWe are Flying Oak Games, a two-man team composed of Florian (the pixel magician) and Thomas (It’s me! I’m the “tech & other stuff†guy), and everything started around some pizza. Before working on NeuroVoider, Florian and I had the habit to spend our Friday nights together playing some local multiplayer games like TowerFall, Borderlands, or Nuclear Throne. Playing with friends, all together on the couch with a slice of pizza is what we like the most in gaming! Hence, we were quite obliged to create our own take on the four-player, action-packed style of game. NeuroVoider was born! Explosions, dark synth music, high replay value, and a good dose of difficulty to spend the whole night having a good time — alone or with a bunch of friends. We’re looking forward to bring NeuroVoider to your PS4! Cheers guys! View the full article

A tragic past. An unfinished painting. And a crumbling psyche. These are the core elements that make up the setting of Layers of Fear, a new psychological horror game coming to PS4 on February 16th. In Layers of Fear you play as an anonymous painter, clearly haunted by his tragic past and fixated on regaining what he has lost. His only solace is to delve deep into madness while trying to finish his life’s work — his Magnum Opus. The game is a psychedelic, atmospheric thriller, with the plot focused on the drive for perfection and where it can lead you as a person. One of the first concepts we had for the game was a focus on fine art, and we have made it one of the most important ones. A lot of the artists in our studio have a MA degree in Art and are fascinated by what our predecessors have created. Disturbing paintings of murders and religious reckonings have been in our culture for centuries and are a never-ending bank of ideas and inspiration that haunt people to this day. So why not reinterpret this inspiration into a truly unique horror game? That’s exactly what we did. In creating Layers of Fear, we also wanted to bring a new perspective to the horror genre by introducing a lead character whose own world changes around him as he struggles with insanity and loses his grip on reality. Both the fine art surroundings and the painter’s family home, originally sources of inspiration and accomplishment, deteriorate along with the character’s own psyche, representing how madness, obsession, and tragedy can influence one’s mind and cause the player to doubt his or her every step. Imagine you walk into an empty square room. There is a door on each of the walls. You dart to the first door to find it sealed shut. You go to the next door and then to the next, only to discover it’s the same story for each one of them. But upon turning around you find all the doors are gone. There are just plain walls. You make another circle around the room. Did you see that right? Were there doors there or was that somewhere else? Then the room shrinks behind your back. Feeling claustrophobic? And then a new door appears; this time it’s open. What is on the other side is not what you expect. This is a simple example of how the game works and how we build tension and discomfort for the player. It was a huge challenge for us to create a horror game without simply resorting to jump-scares or enemies chasing you around. We designed, prototyped, and tested the same versions of each location countless times to find players’ patterns so we could find the tipping point of creating player tension. It was a ton of work, and we found ourselves playing our own mind games, discussing how family, work, and tragedy have affected our own lives. I guess you could say creating Layers of Fear has been cathartic for us. But we believe we have done it — a horror game where the scares come from the setting rather than another rotten, faceless zombie that wants to eat your brain, and a game that stays with you long after you’ve played it. In Layers of Fear, the more you explore and delve into the game’s world, the more gratifying the story gets. We have left tons of personal items, notes, photos, and wall scribbles that expand the plot and immerse you in the story, while also leaving much to the player’s imagination. Chapter after chapter you will ask yourself what has really transpired in the life of the main character. Layers of Fear is a scary and psychedelic wild ride that bends our perception of the world; it makes you think about the gravity of tragedy and how it could define our lives. Horror has always been our passion and forte, and we hope that you will enjoy this trip through madness as much as we have enjoyed putting it together for you. Please leave any questions or thoughts you may have in the comments. View the full article

Hi everyone, my name is Mark Morris and I helped found Introversion Software back in 2001. We’ve made a few games in our time, however I’m delighted to say that our biggest accomplishment to date, Prison Architect, is coming to PS4 through a collaboration with the good people at Double Eleven! Prison Architect allows you to act as both architect and governor. You control every detail of your Prison — from building new cells and facilities to hiring staff and creating reform programs… all while dealing with informants, contraband smuggling, gang warfare, full scale riots, and a lot more! The idea came from a holiday in Alcatraz; my pal Chris Delay went on a tour of the infamous prison and when looking at the mechanisms and intricate systems in place, he was inspired and so Prison Architect was born. Public opinion is divided as to whether prisons are too harsh or not harsh enough, so we wanted to create a game where you could touch on that and explore it for yourself. The idea was to create a game where players had a chance to experience a simulated prison management system and leave every decision — big and small — to the player. The game began life as a crowdfunded project on PC and 5 years (and thirty something updates) later we released version 1.0! There was an overwhelming reaction to Prison Architect which made us consider bringing it to PlayStation. The team at Double Eleven approached us with their ideas for how to make the PS4 version and we were really excited about where they wanted to take it. Most people will start their journey into the world of Prison Architect by playing through the Prison Stories, the game’s main campaign. You’ll start by equipping a small prison with everything it needs and later move to being called up to deal with emergencies. You’ll quickly learn how to cope with blazing infernos, prison wide riots, demolition, and construction. Don’t worry though, you can build an armory containing tasers, guns, and other lethal weaponry to keep order! If you make it through all that unscathed, the Mayor will be ready to give you the reigns of a brand new prison development where you can build the prison of your dreams. Now it’s on you to decide whether you build and manage a prison that offers rehabilitation and peaceful coexistence or if you’d rather impose intentional harshness and strip away any notions of wellbeing and freedom. Be prepared to deal with the consequences! Once your prison is built, go online with World of Wardens to share your designs with the community. You can also browse and play other Architects’ prisons from around the world! We’re planning to release Prison Architect on PS4 this spring. Thanks everyone! View the full article

Today Tachyon Project made its way to PlayStation Store. When I was asked if I could write an article that included some tips and tricks for the game I jumped right in — tips can highlight the gameplay depth you can find in Tachyon Project, which is what differentiates it from other games of the genre. So, let’s go for it! Attack is the Best Form of DefenseIn Tachyon Project your health is the time left. Destroying enemies increases the time left. Thus, most of the time, the best way to get out of a tricky situation is to be particularly aggressive. Obliterating a few enemies may give you those extra seconds you need to breath and find your place on the screen and face the next bunch of attackers. In these situations, if you have enough time left (using secondary weapons consumes time) I’d recommend using an explosion or a mine to destroy a bunch of enemy ships and get away. Live in the ShadowsIn stealth levels (the ones that are darker and you only see clearly in a small area around you), staying hidden is key to success. Enemies will go towards the last position you were revealed which is marked with a shadow of your ship. You reveal yourself only when shooting or when a special enemy detects you — there are radars and seekers that will do that. Again, explosions and mines are useful here. You can stay hidden while the ships clump towards your last visible position, then get closer and release an explosion taking out a bunch of them. In non-stealth levels you can do a similar strategy using the decoy. When a decoy is active enemies will go towards it and will ignore you. Again you can use it with an explosion, the mine, or the turret to great effect. Take a Break… If You Need ItWith certain enemies (particularly certain bosses) freezing or slowing down time is really useful since you can move normally while it’s in effect, positioning yourself in the right places or making the most of a hole in the enemy defenses. Adapt to the ChallengeDifferent levels contain different types of challenges, configuring your ship to adapt to that challenge may make the difference between life and death. Allow yourself to experiment a bit with different weapons and perks and decide what fits best to the situation at hand. I’d recommend that you normally leave the extra time perk on in story levels, but if you’re having a hard time with a wave you can always change that perk after a few tries (when you already start with a lot of time) for a more useful one. Getting that extra damage or extra speed for that single wave could help a lot. And remember you can always return to the extra time perk if you get killed in a following wave. ExperimentDon’t disregard a weapon just because you don’t like it the first time. Try combinations of weapons that make sense to you. For instance, the laser or the shotgun may be a bit slow, but with the extra shooting speed you may have a blast with them. The bomb launcher may feel a bit clumsy and imprecise, but if you add the heat seeking perk it may become deadly. Experimenting with different weapons and configurations is part of the fun! Oh, and please, give the Frenzy secondary weapon a go, it’s a blast and it may help you fill the screen with bullets and explosions. Well, that’s it for the time being. Thanks for reading so far and I hope these tips are useful. Please let me know what you think in the comments below and feel free to ask any questions, I’ll do my best to answer promptly. PSBlog Feed: Resident Evil 0 Out Today on PS4, PS3
Commander Fury posted a topic in Playstation Blog
In 2002, Resident Evil 0 unveiled to the world a new, previously unexplored chapter in gaming’s greatest survival horror series. As we move into the 20th Anniversary of Resident Evil this year, we are proud to revisit the series’ roots with you all — and today this beautifully remastered version of the prequel chapter makes its PlayStation debut on both PS4 and PS3! Of course the world of Resident Evil is a big one, filled with grand conspiracies and complex relationships. So to bring you up to speed, I’d like to give you a taste of just a few of the ways that the story of Resident Evil 0 ties back into some of the other mainline games in the series. The Original Resident EvilFirst and foremost, Resident Evil 0 is a direct prequel to the first game in the series. It takes place the day before the famous Mansion Incident and leads directly into those events. If you’ve seen the intro of the original Resident Evil, you’ll know that the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team was out searching for signs of their compatriots, Bravo Team, who disappeared during their mission to investigate a series of murders occurring in the suburbs of Raccoon City. In Resident Evil 0, you start out on that ill-fated mission as you take on the role of S.T.A.R.S. rookie cop Rebecca Chambers. It’s not going to be an easy 24 hours for her or her circumstantial partner, convicted murderer Billy Coen, before the events of the first Resident Evil game take place. Trivia: This actually makes Rebecca the very first S.T.A.R.S. member to see a zombie and live to tell the tale. She’s quite a trendsetter! Resident Evil 2The biggest thread that Resident Evil 2 shares with Resident Evil 0? Dr. William Birkin. In Resident Evil 2, Birkin serves as the main antagonist, the evil genius behind the G-Virus. In Resident Evil 0, you learn that he and his co-conspirator Albert Wesker were working behind the scenes, incidentally making life difficult for Rebecca and Billy. You also get to learn a bit more about his backstory with Umbrella, mainly what a snake he is. Resident Evil 5There are also ties to Resident Evil 5, though in this case non-canonically. The new Resident Evil 0 introduces Wesker Mode, which you can access by beating the main campaign once. In this mode, you have the opportunity to play as an Uroboros-enhanced Albert Wesker, based on his Resident Evil 5 appearance and abilities. Why that version? Well, in the spirit of goofy bonus modes like ye olde Tofu mode, we wanted a really overpowered character, and who’s more overpowered than a self-proclaimed god? So now that you have an idea of how Resident Evil 0 fits in the larger RE universe, this is a great time to see where it all began. The HD release, featuring remastered visuals and sound, options for new and classic controls, and the all-new Wesker Mode, is available for download today on PS4 and PS3 for $19.99. If you prefer physical discs, you can also pick up Resident Evil Origins Collection for PS4, which retails for $39.99 and includes both this game and the Resident Evil HD remaster. Now turn out the lights and get ready to experience the origins of Resident Evil! View the full article -
It’s finally here, World of Tanks Launch Day on PS4! The game is live worldwide, so start downloading today. Hooray! Now every PS4 owner can play World of Tanks for free and for as long as they like. There are no pay walls, no pay to win, just sweet, sweet tanks firing shells and blowing up other tanks in massive 15 vs 15 online battles. Of course there’s a Proving Grounds mode you can cut your teeth on before facing real adversaries online. No PlayStation Plus membership required (although if you have one you can pick up an awesome PS Plus Member exclusive tank). Not familiar with World of Tanks? I’m TJ Wagner, Project Lead at Wargaming.net for World of Tanks on consoles and I’ll walk you through the basics. World of Tanks for PS4 starts out with 3 nations, more than 130 tanks, and dozens of maps with non-stop tactical action/combat. After a brief introduction to the game, you can choose the nation you want to start with from United States, Germany, or USSR and jump right into battle. Every battle earns you experience points (XP) and in game currency (Silver) to upgrade your tank or acquire new ones. Of course there are all sorts of customizations and additional items you can put on your tank. Grow and train up your crew to earn additional skills and perks. There’s also a Store where you can buy Premium time and tanks to help you earn faster in-game or for collecting special tanks. I won’t bore you with all the details, the game will teach you all that — and best of all it’s free! Just download it and give it a whirl and you’ll be an experienced tanker in no time. If you have any questions about the game you can usually find answers along with tips and tricks on the official site, or read what the community is saying (they are legion, as well as helpful). There is a wealth of advice, experience, and information over there — even I use it to look up things on the game. What’s more, World of Tanks is a living game that’s always changing. There are monthly free content and feature updates, adding new maps, nations, and tanks. There’s always something new to try out or blow up with our trusty favorites. World of Tanks on PS4 brings along some exclusives you won’t find on other platforms like custom maps, tanks, and all the goodness the platform has to offer. We recently held two Open Betas to test things out with close to a million battles played by early-bird tankers. That means the game is stable, servers are ready, and a huge base of players are set to take you on in battle. If you’re a Trophy hound, there are lots to start collecting including the ever coveted Platinum Trophy for earning them all. Okay, enough talking, I gotta get tanking. You can grab World of Tanks for free in the PlayStation Store from your console or via PlayStation Store. It couldn’t be easier and I can safely say Wargaming already has millions of satisfied customers. You like satisfaction, don’t you? Then what are you waiting for? See you on the battlefield. First off, Happy New Year! I mean, sure it’s mid-January, but it’s still okay to say Happy New Year, right? Regardless, I’m here to share the gloriousness of Ace Team’s upcoming action adventure game, the monster movie-inspired The Deadly Tower of Monsters. This sci-fi themed intergalactic planetary voyage it out today on PS4. How would I describe the game? I would say it’s very similar to one of life’s greatest guilty pleasures. You know what I’m talking about. It’s 3:00 AM, you’ve got the late night munchies, but you’re not moving away from the TV. You’re going deeper and deeper into the Netflix rabbit hole, desperately searching for… the one. Before all hope is lost, you see it — nestled in the depths of the Sci-Fi section — the perfect movie. It’s a lowest-of-the-low budget 1970s B-movie full of amateur actors, dialogue written by someone who once met a person that went to film school, laughable production values, second rate special effects, monster costumes courtesy of a local flea market, etc. Sure, it may not have won Oscars or have some profound message, but darnit, it’s just the thing for your spaced-out, late-night state of mind. The Deadly Tower of Monsters has you playing inside that kind of movie, where your controller guides all the acting queues and fighting choreography! The game is framed as a 1970’s sci-fi film — directed by Dan Smith, and starring actors Jonathan Digby as the valiant space explorer Dick Starspeed, Stacy Sharp as the fiery Scarlet Nova, and a poor uncredited actor as the trusty co-pilot, Robot. Dick Starspeed and Robot crash land onto the hostile planet Gravoria where they eventually team up with Scarlet Nova. Long story short, players must guide Dick Starspeed and company up the eponymous Deadly Tower of Monsters in order to confront Gravoria’s cruel emperor (Who also just happens to be Scarlet Nova’s father… dun dun dun!). It won’t be an easy task for our intrepid space heroes. A flood of horrible beasts, gross abominations, and creatures from out of this world populate the tower. We’re talking horrific monstrosities such as stop-motion dinosaurs, gross slime creatures, giant nuclear (that’s “nukularâ€) ants, vicious lizard men, and diabolical puppybots galore! If you can see a zipper or some human feet, just uh… ignore that. The good news: Dick, Scarlet, and Robot have an arsenal of weapons and skills to zap, whack, burn, and disintegrate their way up the tower. But wait, there’s more! Due to the lax insurance concerns and actor safety regulations of the 1970s, players can freefall off the tower to find secret areas and treasures without fear of death… unless they’re not careful. Plus, you won’t want to miss director Dan Smith’s “insightful†commentary on the filming process as he explains his genius: “There’s something so invigorating about the freefall shots! Like sticking your head out of the sunroof on the freeway!â€* The Deadly Tower of Monsters is truly an homage to classic Ed Wood-ian type schlock films; and kudos to Ace Team for making looking bad look so good on the Unreal Engine — from the film grain effect to the non-claymated claymation animations. So if you love deliciously cheesy sci-fi B-movies or have a knack for a solid action game, you can’t go wrong with The Deadly Tower of Monsters. Good luck out there, and don’t feel too bad for the stuntmen. It’s their job. *Atlus USA cautions readers to not stick their heads out of sunroofs while driving on the freeway as it is probably dangerous. View the full article
