A teaser trailer for Halo 4 concluded Microsoft’s E3 news conference today. In it, the series’ longtime hero, Master Chief, awakens from cryonic sleep to the voice of Cortana, calling him by his name. He then grabs Cortana and flees the wreckage a ship hurtling toward some sort of portal. During Microsoft’s 2011 E3 press conference this morning, BioWare’s Dr. Ray Muzyka demonstrated how Microsoft’s Kinect could make the Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect 3 the one to own. Mass Effect‘s famous branching dialog system comes to life thanks to Kinect’s voice recognition. Each decision made can be made using your natural voice, unless you are ridiculously drunk or suffer from a serious speech impediment. Wouldn’t it be lovely if the game’s characters became confused and asked you to repeat yourself in those cases? Immersion a-go-go! Voice is for more than just climbing dialog trees, however. The next episode of Fable will support Kinect when it releases in 2012. Ubisoft announced that Ghost Recon Future Soldier would support Kinect, they also showed alot of gun customization and gun testing with Kinect. During the presentation they showed off that the new Ghost Recon uses Kinect as well as being able to customize every bit of a gun, including inner parts, adding up to 20 million unique weapons. After announcing a 3 year DLC deal with Activision at last year’s E3, we knew it was going to happen, but it still makes us sad to write about: Modern Warfare 3‘s DLC will be coming to the 360 first. Sony’s online virtual community PlayStation Home has its own little version of the “Welcome Back” package, which has seen PS3 owners get some free games. Only, in Home, you don’t get games. You get stuff. One hundred pieces of stuff, to be clear, each Home user able to claim a whole bunch of stuff like gloves, t-shirts and, since it wouldn’t be PlayStation Home without it, virtual designer European furniture. Hey, Mad Catz … maybe “WarHead” isn’t the best name for something that goes on your head. We kind of don’t want war on our heads. But despite the name, Mad Catz’s new Xbox 360 headset range might find a receptive audience. These are the first fruits of the company’s wireless headset deal. Mad Catz’s audio-focused subsidiary Tritton is introducing a line of 360 headsets, including the wireless WarHead 7.1 and Devastator, and the “entry-level” wired Detonator. The WarHead has 7.1-channel Dolby Digital, Pro Logic II, and Dolby Headphone audio; the other two are stereo-only. The two wireless sets include a base station that connects to the Xbox through USB and either optical or RCA audio connections. Those base stations allow audio to be shared among four headsets, if you’re in the middle of a weirdly antisocial gathering. IGN notes that all three should be out before the end of the year, and none of them should exceed $300 in price. Hey, we just remembered that sometimes headphones cost more than $300! With Actvision announcing their premium Elite service for the upcoming Modern Warfare 3 and other supported COD games, you just knew that EA were going to launch a counter attack with their own move, and they look to have found the answer with their Battlelog service. EA DICE have given Battlefield 3 players their own detailed separate stats service, and at the same time, they have sent a clear message to Activision that making fans pay for additional services such as the ones detailed in Elite is just not cool. Karl Magnus Troedsson, General Manager at DICE has revealed details about Battleblog on the official BF3 blog, informing gamers that the service will feature detailed player stats, social tools (Facebook, Twitter?), the ability to manage friends lists, set up squads and create platoons, and wait it – built in voice chat. If we’re not mistaken, these are the some of the core features that Activison are charging MW3 players a monthly fee for on Elite, and EA knows it – just check out the following sneaky quote from Troedsson below: â€Battlelog will be available for the monthly fee of (drum roll)…… zero dollars. †Another thing we respect about this, is that this has seemingly gone under the radar, as if it’s a normal thing – giving something extra to the community at no extra cost, unlike Activision’s big announcement which caused some gamers to turn away in frustation after finding out Activision want a few extra dollars for in return. Is this an early indication that Battlefield 3 will be the most popular choice this year ahead of Modern Warfare 3? Hopefully everybody enjoyed the double XP period for Call of Duty: Black Ops in May – neither Treyarch nor Activision wanted to see any of the PS3 fans miss out just because of the technical issues. Now the next round of Black Ops action is locked and loaded: the long-awaited Escalation DLC pack will be available in the PlayStation Store on Friday, June 10th. Escalation features five big chunks of content – four multiplayer maps and one star-studded Zombies experience unlike any other. For fans of competitive combat, your new battlegrounds await: HOTEL takes the sunny splendor of a luxirous Cuban casino resort and turns it into a bullet-riddled war zone. Details like the blown casino safe and poolside bar offer some unusual cover for run-and-gunners, but thanks to the high vantage points at opposite ends, it’s also a great map for snipers. Why not visit the ZOO? The big cats and deadly reptiles left this abandoned Russian animal park long ago, but the overgrown, dilapidated facility still plays host to the world’s most dangerous game. Hide below in the bear lair or snipe from above on the monorail track – you’ve got the run of the place. If you’re looking for a slice of classic Americana, check out the small-town motel and diner near the ambushed CONVOY. The freeway overpass has collapsed, leaving a missile stranded above and rubble littered below – not to mention a pre-fab house, apparently in transit by truck when the attack hit, now toppled on its side in ruins. Talk about trailer trash. STOCKPILE looks like an ordinary town in remote Russia…until you find the warhead hidden in the building in the center of town. Use switches to slide the huge steel doors up and down – good for restricting access during objective-based games. Last but not least, CALL OF THE DEAD goes meta on zombie lore itself with a unique setup: Cinema’s zombie godfather George A. Romero is making his latest undead epic – starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Robert Englund, Michael Rooker, and Danny Trejo – only to have a real zombie apocalypse break out, infecting the director himself and causing him to stalk you throughout the level. All the stars performed their roles with full motion capture and voice-over, so when you and three friends take on wave after wave of the zombie horde, you’ll do so as some of Hollywood’s most famous monster mashers. Proof positive that there’s a zombie killer in all of us. Escalation will be available in the PlayStation Store on Friday, June 10, and to celebrate, the double XP will flow once more – enjoy twice the rewards for your efforts through Sunday, June 12. Insomniac has released multiplayer footage from Resistance 3,and it shows off the HUD for Chimeran players along with the Firestorm rocket-launcher. Players will be able to customize their loadout with Support and Tactical abilities, and in the video, you’ll see players using Healing Beacons and Bubble Shields on teammates, as well as making use of Thermal Vision and Dash on enemies. Larger clips and being able to track enemies by their footprints will also be an option, as well as having leapers “burst from your corpse.†Unloackable weapons, abilities and attributes, are upgradable as well as players progress through multiplayer. All of this and more will be available in the closed beta which will available “soonâ€, and at E3, Insomniac plans on revealing a new multiplayer map with a location in Europe. A new interpretation of the classic Rainbow Six, the tough-as-nails tactical shooter that asked gamers to carefully plan out the nuance of a breach like a choreographed dance, is in the works, a source familiar with the unannounced Ubisoft shooter tell Kotaku. We’ve also heard that the game will in many ways be a departure from the sameness found in Rainbow Six: Vegas and its sequel, and a return to what helped separate the shooter from others of its ilk. It’s unclear if the in-development game will be shown at E3. The original Rainbow Six is more tactical and focused on stealth than on weapons. Before each mission, in those early games, players were asked to view a briefing and then build a team, pick their weapons and equipment and finally create waypoints that the secondary members of the team would follow. Once the mission started, players had only control of one team member at a time. Rainbow Six will be a far more story-driven game than previous iterations of the Tom Clancy branded title. The game is meant to take a step in a different direction, telling a bigger, much more gritty cinematic story than previous versions of the game. In this still-to-be-titled Rainbow Six, players will be tasked with stopping a homegrown terrorist group operating in America. The group, fed up with the greed of Wall Street and the government that acts to protect them, decides to target New York City. While the gameplay is based on some classic Rainbow Six mechanics, there is a brand new cover system that takes you out of the first-person perspective and into the third.
