Tensions between the U.S. and Venezuela escalated with the expulsion last week of a U.S. Embassy official accused of spying. In return, Washington expelled a Venezuelan official. Chavez threatened over the weekend to sell off all of Venezuela-owned Citgo Petroleum Corp.'s refineries and divert U.S. oil exports to other countries. "I could easily order the closing of the refineries that we have in the United States," Chavez said Saturday in a speech to supporters. "I could easily sell the oil that we sell to the United States to other countries in the world ... (to) real friends and allies like China, India or Europe."
