New(ish) Ports for PS3 users

Recommended Posts

So by now most of you have figured out a few things about your ps3 and its connectivity... mostly setting up your router properly so that there is minimal problems communicating w/ other ps3s aka your friends.. We have also figured out that when not using your media servers, that they should be turned off cuz this not only creates MAJOR issues w/ your home network and the PSN, but it also works the ps3 harder then it needs to be running when not in use. So if your already lost PM me and i can get you the link to set up your stuff correctly ..

SO , now w/ the new stuff recently added.. i started up Burnout Paradise again w/ BHU and BlazinTrails (2 fellow 503 members)... we played fine the first couple of nights w/ little or no problems.. the 3rd night i believe it was Blazin had some troubles connecting to both BHU and me and finally after about 10 Ps3 freezes .. Blazin gave up and BHU raced the night away.. well the following day i could not connect to BHU or anyone online for that matter, but only on Burnout.. its weird cuz you have to connect to the servers to play the game and i was online and could even receive friend invites.. i just couldnt get to my friends list w/in the game w/o my ps3 locking up. This continued for 5 days till i finally called Sony. After 1 hour on the phone w/ them the told me it was a EA game and to call them.. well 2 hours later w/ them they had no fix either.. I deleted and re downloaded the updates and game utility data a total of 4 times, deleted all of my user data.. the works.. still no fix. So i then told them about BHU and his EA problem.. which is a whole other story but basically BHU had to create another PSN id and only then he could then log into the EA servers. Weeks later his normal PSN id works fine but i suggested i log in as another PSN Id and guess what.. it worked.

So they told me to call Sony back cuz it was obviously a PSN ID related issue.. so i did.. and 45 min later he suggested i need to open up ports.. i told him i had them all forwarded but he wanted to double check.. and they apparently added 2 new ports since the write up on how to connect your router properly post was created. First try on my PSN account w/ ports forwarded Burnout worked.. i have no idea why one account would work and the other would not.. but it is what it is.. So long story short.. ( lol yea right .. this is me that is posting this, not quite of GOAT length but still ..lol ) the new ports to add are :

TCP 10070 - 10080

UDP 10070 - 10070

and yes i know its only 10070 on the second one. So please add these and who knows.. maybe other games and mics will run smoother for us now too... hope this helps.

The DMZ is the demilitarized zone. It basically puts whatever you want, outside the firewall and opens it up to every port, so obviously you don't want to put your PC in the DMZ. Anyway, if your PS3 has a static IP, then you open up your router settings, look under firewall, and somewhere there should be a setting for DMZ. Just type in your static IP and there you go.

LinkSys, D-link, Buffalo and some say Netgear(I have had bad experience with Netgear) are good residential routers.

Personally I have LinkSys and have not had issues, others have, but I suspect setting issues. LinkSys usually has VERY good hardware but suspect firmware, which has gotten better.

so is this just a router thing o should i pay more attention..as of now i have two games and i have one downloaded game.i watch movies on it but not for the blu-ray stuff...basically it just sits on the shelf and collects dust except for when i play socom ...what else should i be doin on this thing......???

A LOT! You've got Home, you can help solve cancer and disease, the games, you can use it as a media server, turn it into a computer, use the web browser to watch porn on your big screen (my favorite use!), movies, and I'm sure that's not everything, I know I'm probably under using it myself as there's much more you can do I'm sure.

Actually the ports are..

TCP 80

TCP 443

TCP 5223

TCP/UDP 10070-10080

UDP 3478-3479

UDP 3658

TCP/UDP 50000-65535

TCP 25

TCP/UDP 6000-7000

Or you could just DMZ it, all of this however can only be done if you set a static IP on the Ps3 that is out of the DCHP range of the router.

Also if your router has QoS (quality of service) then you should set the IP of the Ps3 (the static one you gave it) to have the best Quality of service or the priority device for bandwidth.

Lastly the Linksys WRT54G is by the far the best Router ever made for gaming.. Linksys (for the WRT54G only versions 4-6) did a bold thing and made the firmware “OPEN source†which means if you have one of these there are a couple of kick ass firmwares from third parties that cater to online gaming.. they basically turn your residential router into a business class high dollar band hogging big business router… which is very very cool for the gamer.

This information is from the Playstation support site.

SCEA Game Servers

All games published by SCEA (first-party) may use the following ports for communication with SCEA (first-party) game servers:

TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223, and 10070 - 10080

UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658, 10070, and 50100

PlayStation®Network

TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223

UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658

PLAYSTATION®3 Remote Play

If the router in use supports UPnP, enable the router’s UPnP function.

If the router does not support UPnP, you must set the router’s port forwarding to allow communications to the PLAYSTATION 3 from the Internet.

The port number that is used by remote play is TCP Port: 9293

USB or Bluetooth Headsets

TCP Port: 80

UDP Ports: 6000 - 7000, 50000, 10070

Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain

TCP Port: 3658 --- If I am not mistaken that is for Demonware servers, same as COD4.

PlayOnline and Final Fantasy XI

TCP Ports: 25, 80, 110, 443, and 50000 - 65535

UDP Ports: 50000 - 65535

Other Games

If you need port numbers for games published by third-party companies, contact the publisher of the software title directly. See Game Support Contacts for contact information.

THIS is why I use DMZ!
