Not in the original. Haven't seen the new one yet. This movie does look cool.

They are inmates.. convicts.. prisoners what have you… they are always controlled!

 

Giving them the freedom to kill each other with automobiles isn’t exactly giving up control. There has been a ton of movies that demonstrate this.. Hollywood lets the bad guy/good guy win in the end because hey its Hollywood they can do what they want they have the control. Movies like The Death Race series.. The Running Man, The Most Dangerous Game, Forced Prize Fight, Bloodlust, Big Bad, Island of the Damned.. etc. etc.. its called: “The Chase†genre.. hell almost every TV show has at least one episode that epitomizes it.. even Gilligan’s Island had a episode where Gilligan was the prey! LMAO!

 

In almost every case it’s the award of “wining your freedom†for volunteering and to gain sympathy for the hero he is almost always forced into participating against his will regardless of the prize.

 

The question is though if this was real would you like to have the controller. It’s a hypothetical question… since it isn’t real its Hollywood.. the real question is would I be opposed to having this be reality and for that I say HELL NO! no rapist, murderer, child molester, hard criminal etc.. should be given any chance in hell of getting out for winning a game. Let them serve until they rot as far as I’m concerned. However if it was real and I had a chance to press the buttons then like I said. Grenade at his feet.. BOOM.. my bad.. this is respawn right? yea that is where i first saw this movie as well was at Terminator Salvation but the movie does look pretty sweet kind of reminds me of Death Race with the whole death row stay alive and you can live type thing
