ChuckMoney Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 Ok so summer is near and its starting to stay warm outside so for us who love or like to do yard work its time to get our grass together! Now, I am ready to have 1 of the best yards on the block, but I got this fucking root growing out my grass and its making 1 area of my yard look bad! > I woild like to cut them, but I am worried it would kill the tree and I also thought to just throw some top soil on it to cover it up and call it a day, but I am thinking its gone come back up! Here are some pics 1 of the tree and 1 of the main roots and its about 2 feet long! Do anybody know what type of tree this is? here is that fucking root!! These pics were taken with my cell phone so they may not be the best! Thanks for ALL info!! Quote
(BD)-STRICK- Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 go ahead and cut it out. itll be ok. those trees are hearty and can take a slight shock, plus that root isnt anything that is supporting the tree nutritionally.good luck Quote
EL1TE--SNIP3R Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 yeah i cant see what kind of tree it is, but regardless cutting a singe root, or even a few won't hurt it. it's a huge tree so it will be fine. Quote
ChuckMoney Posted June 3, 2009 Author Report Posted June 3, 2009 You guys can click the pic's to make them larger. Quote
HairyNiples Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 That kind of looks like a poplar tree. Cutting that root shouldnt hurt anything if it is. Quote
PACKERNUT- Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 The only thing I wouldn't cut is an OAK root Oak Wilt runs wild this time of year and cutting a root on one would almost guarantee it's death. My wife has a degree in this stuff I'll ask her to fill ya in later. Quote
HairyNiples Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 looks like a maple tree to me u could be right. very possible. Quote
inadub Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 i also think its a maple tree.. does it have little helicopter things that fall off towards the end of the year?? Quote
Red0ctobeR Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 toward the end of the year. They fall this time of the year. Maybe that is an Oregon thing, or where ever you live, dub. ;D Quote
Red0ctobeR Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 BTW that is a maple tree. Cutting one root wont hurt anything. HTey have mainly a fibrous root system that buroughs feet into the ground, cutting one surface root wont hurt it at all. BUT beware, you might open a new can of worms when you try to pull the rest of it out of the ground. Quote
EL1TE--SNIP3R Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 lol. yeah, if you try to pull it our without cutting it you're gona pull half your yard up. Quote
inadub Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 xRed0ctobeRx ]toward the end of the year. They fall this time of the year. Maybe that is an Oregon thing, or where ever you live, dub. ;D I do infact live in Oregon.. its been a while since i have had one.. but i remember them droppin those things at the end of the summer.. but hey.. now works too... lol Quote
AminalMotheR Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 HA I thought this thread was gonna be about your sewer pipe getting plugged with tree roots. I Had to dig one up this morning that had that problem. Shitty Indeed. But yea if your worried about cutting it then just throw some dirt over it and some landscaping bricks around your tree. Then plant pot seeds there. Quote
MidWestCannabis Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 THROW SOME MULCH OVER IT AND CALL IT A DAY,AND IF YOU DO ALL THE TREES IN THE YARD IT WILL LOOK IN UNIFORM Quote
CDBS14 Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 cut it. most trees depend on their one main root that extends straight underground, one root wont do much and it will probably grow again. Quote
CpDude05 Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 Hey Red. You go something against Oregon? Yea, that's what i thought!!! Quote
Red0ctobeR Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 Nope never been to the pacific north west. So I can't judge. I just know it rains there alot and I like apples from there. All I know is here in the Midwest, Maple trees seed in the late spring to early summer. Quote
