A new batch of free maps for Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer and Killzone Shadow Fall Intercept hits the PlayStation Store today! Fight against the enemy team on the new “The Statue” competitive multiplayer map, or cooperate with your friends on “The ATAC Tower” and “The Canal” co-op maps. The Statue — Competitive Multiplayer Map After a cataclysmic explosion laid waste to their precious monument, the Helghast embarked on the massive task of reconstructing the Scolar Visari memorial statue and the adjacent armory building. While the recreational wing of the facility is largely completed, the armory itself is still covered in scaffolding and building equipment. Choose your base exit carefully on this map, as there are many different routes providing fast and easy access to all extremes of the combat area. The warren of interconnecting rooms will allow for clever flanking maneuvers once you know your way around, and you can gain an additional advantage by maintaining control of the large mechanical doors. The ATAC Tower — Cooperative Map* Perched inside the Helghast security wall, the ATAC Tower functions as a base for the ATAC drones patrolling New Helghan’s borders. The drones have proven to be an effective deterrent against Vektan invaders and Helghast defectors, so the VSA is sending in Intelligence Squad Alpha to secure the tower. Their orders are to establish an uplink and transmit the ATAC control codes back to HQ — but they’ll have to fight with their backs to the wall to hold off the Helghast forces converging on their position. The Canal — Cooperative Map* Fallen into disuse after the New Helghan government abandoned hydroelectric power, the Canal has become an overgrown riverbed filled with discarded junk and debris. A key VSA informant used one of the abandoned treatment facilities along the banks as a hideout before disappearing, so now it’s up to Intelligence Squad Alpha to send the collected intel back to Vekta. But it won’t be easy — Helghast security has discovered the hideout as well, and they’ll do anything to prevent Alpha from establishing an uplink. Enjoy the new maps, and make sure to try them with the new clan functionality and added Intercept game modes introduced in Patch 1.5! Let us know what you think of the maps on the official Killzone forums, and keep an eye on Killzone.com for more exciting news in the coming weeks! *Please note that you need Killzone Shadow Fall Intercept (add-on expansion or standalone version) to play The ATAC Tower and The Canal. Hello GT Fans, We’re happy to announce that Update 1.12 is now available to download for GT6. This update brings a host of new features and content. Here is just a taste of what’s now available: Toyota FT1 Vision Gran Turismo The “TOYOTA FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo†has been released on “Gran Turismo 6″, available exclusively on PS3. The design concept FT-1 is honed to perfection in this rendition to enhance its features and designs required for pure racing competition. The designers’ original intention in designing the FT-1 was to unabashedly appeal to the die-hard car enthusiasts. This car can be earned by completing just one lap (regardless of lap time) in the new limited time FT-1 Seasonal Event. Online Quick Match Quick Match is a simple online racing mode that lets you take part in events with pre-determined regulations. When each individual event is entered, player matching takes place automatically, followed by the race itself. By selecting “Quick Match†from the My Home screen you can now quickly and easily join a race with players around the world. Sierra Time Rally at Circuito de la Sierra In our first original long course “Circuito de la Sierra†modeled after the Ronda region of Spain, players will attempt to complete a lap around the course within the allotted time. The time remaining can be extended by passing through checkpoints in the 12 different sectors of the course. During your drive you can raise your score and combo level by successfully overtaking vehicles and passing through speed traps along the way. Be careful, any impact to the barriers or other cars will cause your combo to be lost. In addition to the new game mode, the Circuito de la Sierra track can be played in both offline single player and online race modes. Nissan GT-R NISMO edition The GT-R NISMO is the ultimate articulation of the R35 GT-R. First released in 2007, Nissan engineers have been meticulously honing the GT-R’s performance with each version of the car that has followed. This latest version has set the fastest volume production car record at the famous Nordschleife (North Course) on Germany’s Nurburgring with a time of 7:08.679 with its retuned suspension, updated turbochargers and increased downforce. The new GT-R NISMO edition will be awarded as a free gift to everyone who participated in this year’s GT Academy online event. For more info, check out www.gran-turismo.com and the official GT Facebook page. View the full article

Shadow Warrior is a FPS shooter/slasher that’s going to hit PS4 via the PlayStation Store and retail shelves this fall. The original Shadow Warrior game was released on May 13, 1997 as a semi-successor to the legendary Duke Nukem 3D game with over-the-top gore and humor. While developing the new Shadow Warrior – the hardest thing was to keep the old-school feel but also avoid the gameplay from feeling archaic. We wanted the game to be witty, fast-paced and even gorier than the original, while tickling this feel for ‘nostalgia’ with fans of the original game. In the early stages of development we asked ourselves important questions: What was fun about the game? What was unique about the game? What made people remember the game? These were the three main points that we focused on while developing our Shadow Warrior. The fun part was the tongue-in-cheek humor, the complexity of the level design, loads of Easter eggs and secrets. The unique thing was the katana; if you ran out of bullets or just loved to fight with the sword you could chop enemies to pieces using your ancient blade. Next thing is that all the people remembered the game because of Lo-Wang and his one-liners. These were the most important things that we decided to include in our re-imagined version. We also made some changes to make our game a little deeper – we have added special powers, skills and weapon customization. The story is also more complex – you’ll traverse four different settings divided into a total of 17 chapters. You will travel from the gardens of Kyoto, through an industrial port during a storm, up to a high-tech facility belonging to the evil Zilla corporation. Oh, you will also venture to the Shadow Realm where you will fight huge bosses involved in ancient gods’ drama. The highlight of the game is the sword-fighting. Especially for PlayStation 4 where we have added touchpad support for some very intuitive control. Not only will you able to chop up the enemies to pieces more easily, you can also use the touchpad to perform combos and special moves – swipe your finger in one of the four directions and press the trigger to launch a devastating attack or a crippling spell. The game runs on our RoadHog engine in 1080p and at 60 fps. Some of you might have already had the chance to see the game in action at one of the many gaming exhibitions it was showed at, and we can’t wait for you to play the full game this fall. We love playing our reimagined Shadow Warrior on PlayStation 4 — we’re really excited to release it to the PlayStation community soon! View the full article

Hello Gamers! It’s Pawel Miechowski from 11 bit studios here. It took a bit longer than expected, but Anomaly 2 is ready to land on the next-gen beauty PlayStation 4! First things first: you’ll be able to get your hands on it on September 16th for $14.99 on PlayStation Store. So, let’s recap. Anomaly 2 is the opposite of tower defense — it’s been actually called tower offense! Tower offense in Anomaly 2 means it’s a mixture of action and strategy. You control not the towers (aliens invading Earth) but the attackers: human forces who are trying to save the planet. Anomaly 2′s story continues right after the 2018 invasion of Earth that took place in Anomaly Warzone Earth. Our planet is controlled by the aliens and humankind is almost extinct. Those who managed to survive are grouped in convoys. Your convoy is called Yukon, and you are the Commander, dropped right into the battlefield to support troops in your convoy through four special abilities which you’ll deploy during missions. The first ability available to you is Repair, which is basically an Area of Effect healing skill. Next we have Decoy – an ability that baits aliens’ towers to attack the decoy, keeping your troops out of the enemy’s crosshairs. The third skill in your arsenal is EMP, which briefly stuns towers. Last but not least is AIM, a skill that doubles the damage of your troops; it’s used to destroy high priority targets. Every mission is presented from a top-down view. There are five upgradeable unit classes, each with two morphing modes which opens a lot of tactical opportunities to players. For example, Rocket Hammer, which has the highest damage of all units in the convoy and has a 360 degrees view, can be morphed into Sledge Hammer which has a higher range, but cannot attack units on its sides as it has a 30 degree forward firing arc. Morphing units is not the only cool addition! We’ve also created a multiplayer mode where opponents choose sides, either aliens or humans, and square off to see who’s the best on the block. Multiplayer is a mix of regular tower defense gameplay (where one of the players controls towers and upgrades them) and the tower offense akin to the single player missions. Multiplayer offers a tech-tree to develop unique strategies. And keep in mind that in MP, the pace is faster than in single-player! I guess this is the very first strategy game where tower offense meets tower defense. In total there are 14 missions (and a prelude) in the single-player campaign. In the MP mode, there are various maps offering either quick or longer battles, from small maps to big ones with various winning condintions, but I guess total annihilation of the enemy is the coolest! On the graphical side we have a perfectly rendered world and an improved visual engine. Music once again has been created by Piotr Musial, who also made the soundtrack for Anomaly Warzone Earth. We have shared all of our OSTs with the public — they can be downloaded here. Join us on Facebook and Twitter, and if you have any questions please post them in the comment section – I’m here to answer all of them, unless you want me to explain Einstein’s equations! Greetings, PlayStation.Blog! My name is Colin Moriarty. I’m IGN‘s Senior Editor, the man who leads the charge on all of our PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita coverage on the site, and co-host of our popular PlayStation-centric podcast, Podcast Beyond. Now, you may ask why I’m here, writing words within these hallowed digital halls. The reason is quite simple, my friends. Each year on IGN, we update our Top 25 lists for all current platforms. These lists are designed to help hardware veterans and newcomers alike parse through the best-of-the-best to figure out which 25 games rise above the rest on their platform(s) of choice. You may have seen our Top 25 Vita Games list in the past, as well as our Top 25 PS3 Games list. Both of those have been updated this year, and better yet, they’re quite different than previous iterations. That’s because our selection committees have been shaken-up and otherwise widened. I think you’ll like what you find. We’re also introducing our Top 25 PS4 Games list for the very first time, the perfect source to take a glance at whether you already own the console or are planning on buying one in the future. Of course, reading is so 20th century, so we didn’t only unleash written lists; we also did full video lists for you to watch. All three of them are embedded throughout this blog post, should you choose to watch them. But riddle me this: what are your favorite games on these three platforms? You can tell me in the comments below. Until we meet again, a healthy and hearty BEYOND to you. View the full article

We are stoked to announce that our rhythm game sensation, Jungle Rumble: Freedom, Happiness, and Bananas is coming to PS Vita very soon! We are adding more monkeys, more beats, and more bedlam. This is bananas! What’s Jungle Rumble? The player drums to control a tribe of monkeys. A rival tribe invades to steal bananas. The player sends monkey minions into the fray by drumming on the screen. It’s the world’s craziest rhythm game. Using the PS Vita’s touch screen to tap along to the beat of the jungle, players drum on monkeys and then drum on trees to have their simian soldiers swing through the trees. Drum on coconuts and then drum on enemies to throw those coconuts with rhythmic flair. The player jaunts through the jungle with a rhythmic grammar. Unlike a traditional rhythm game there is no script to follow—in Jungle Rumble drumming controls the game. As the game evolves, the questions pile up. Why would that tribe invade and shatter the peace in the jungle? What would cause them to risk war? Jungle Rumble features a dynamic soundtrack — as more and more monkeys team up, the music swells with intensity. As more coconuts are grabbed, the beats bang bigger. Make a mistake? The music stops and the quiet is palpable. For PS Vita we are expanding the game with some bright, shiny things. ‌New tutorial. Being a quite different control mechanic, the game explains how to play. We have playtested with (literally) thousands of con-going types in the Indie Megabooth at PAX, next to the Heian Shrine at BitSummit in Kyoto, and wherever else they let Disco Pixel set up shop. We watch what trips new players up. Then we fix it. We want you to love this as much as we do. More levels. We have expanded the game with bonus levels exploring the “hot step”, a way for monkeys to speed through the jungle. More levels, more medals to earn, more achievements. Badder beats. This is a rhythm game. More music. Hot stuff. Stay tuned for more! What does it look like? Like !Who am I? The first game I made was a Dreamcast launch title: NBA 2K. That’s not actually true. The first game I made was a Vic 20 text adventure: Knight Pirates. (Hey, I was 8.) It just took 15 more years for somebody to actually pay me to do it. After a decade of keeping the dev kits burning I ditched the world of AAA console games, big teams, and stable paychecks to go indie. That is a long time to spend making video games—I’m still waiting to find out the catch. View the full article

The past year has been a crazy ride for us. We have been working closely with our friends at Abstraction Games to make Kick & Fennick the best it can be on PS Vita. The guys at Abstraction have conjured up some amazing tech that allows us to continually refine and improve the game on our side, while they make sure everything we do gets translated perfectly. Kick & Fennick has quite a lot going on so building this custom tech has been a challenge, but we think it was worth it. More...
