[-VR-] Tool_Minion Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 I can't tell that is MW2...the guy is obviously on the PSN, and I didn't watch the whole video (grainy and crappy = no attention span) so how do you know what game it is? Quote

Covert-OPs_ Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Yeah it's legit but it's only on certain modes as I linked in my last post. I'm on the road now so I don't have the list with me but it's posted there. I want to say it's like 3 different modes/hardcore & non. Quote

Covert-OPs_ Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 I would think that if enough people were playing the 3rd person game modes that they'd open the list up to other modes. I would love to see that happen but I don't know if enough people will get into it. Quote

I don't know about that, COD is not known as a tactical shooter. It's more of an arcade shooter than anything else. People may try to fit it into that peg because they haven't been able to find the shooter they really want but they'll be disappointed. Quote
SnowBud Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Interesting, sounds like a win to me Quote

Why isn't CoD considered a tactical shooter? If this is true, it has a TPS version now. So all you need is non-respawn now, correct? Which can be completed with a simple button push while you make your room. Granted, according to this rumor, there are only 3 modes at this point. IW can easily add more game types with a DLC release. Which, if this is true, probably will happen knowing IW's track record. Quote

That means it wasn't meant to be played as a tactical shooter, they just added in those features trying to lure the TS fanbase. Quote
IRISH BULL Posted October 26, 2009 Author Report Posted October 26, 2009 OK, I'm lost then. What makes a game a "tactical" shooter? Because, no offense, all I'm hearing is "Its not SOCOM, so its not a tactical shooter." Quote
BigMoneyNacku Posted October 26, 2009 Report Staff Posted October 26, 2009 This is abotu as close as I can find. I stil ldon't agree with it all but it's a start. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tactical_shooter Quote
Crusty_Demons Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Both games have their positives. Play the game you like to play. For me COD having a third person view is not going to change the problem I have with perks and air support. I will play MW2 for a little while maybe a few months or so maybe longer maybe less. Quote
IRISH BULL Posted October 26, 2009 Author Report Posted October 26, 2009 BigMoneyNacku ]This is about as close as I can find. I still don't agree with it all but it's a start. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tactical_shooter Ohhh, OK. Thanks, I get it. And I'm being serious. Crusty_Demons ]Both games have their positives. Play the game you like to play. For me COD having a third person view is not going to change the problem I have with perks and air support. I will play MW2 for a little while maybe a few months or so maybe longer maybe less. So basically, its not the view at all. So if you took away the perks and played hardcore with no respawn, CoD becomes a tactical shooter. The air support to me is realistic, most of the time. Quote
CDBS14 Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 you guys do know the reason the TPS is there is because when you are able to spectate during private matches people realized COD looks nice as a TPS, they only included this because of that, as an extra feature. Now COD is an FPS, also how can you say COD is not tactical? only because it is FPS and respawn? thats a dumb excuse. Perks and hardcore? i can agree to an extent with perks, but hardcore has nothing to do with it, regular or hardcore the only difference is 3 or 5 bullets. If you like camping then it is hardcore, if you like running around then it is regular. If you like camping you get destroyed at regular, if you like running around, you get destroyed at hardcore. Its about playing style, not the view of the game, not the spawning. Because technically dragon rising is a MUCH BETTER tactical shooter than socom. Quote
SnowBud Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 I would say technically MAG blows them all of out the water as far as tactical and realistic, theres so much team work required its not even funny. Not to mention you can't call in air support if the opponent has destroyed your mortar battery(realistic). But we will have to see how it turns out obviously. But its looking and playing really well so far. I think they added it to grab some more of the shooter fan base than they currently weren't attracting. Now we'll see how they implement it and how many modes or more modes they add. I look at it like socom adding run buttons and side switching, they were trying to appeal to a different fan base than the normal socomer. Quote

The view is a big part of it for me yes but... I am a huge fan of the old school style of Socom the kind without a sprint button. MAG, MW2, Socom Confrontation all having a sprint button really is irritating. I get so tired of mashing a stupid button to go places fast. It really takes away from the game for me. Bottom line is for me there are a lot of fundamental problems with the non old school Socom style shooters. I am one of those guys that if they can give us a new Socom that has the game play of the old ones I could easily play it for years especially if they keep it fresh with content. I would not need another shooter I wouldn't not buy MW2, MAG, or Flash Point if that kind of Socom game was out. The air support in COD is IMHO probably one of the most irritating parts of the game. Sometimes realistic or not it's just not fun. When reality starts taking away from the fun factor of a game it becomes not fun and that's why I play games. I enjoyed OFP2's super realistic style but it wasn't/isn't something I am going to play long term. I will play MW2 but probably only for a short time and the same with MAG. As far as the tactical shooter thing. Both MW and Socom can be tactical shooters if played in a rigid military way. More often than not though it comes down to who can get to the choke points faster and who has a better strafing gun game. Which is completely fine with me since the strafing battles are what make for a lot of fun. @ Snow Bud This Socom is the bastard child of the series made by a completely different dev. They did what they wanted with the game as far as the side switching and such. I would look for the next Socom to be more of the old style un watered down kinda game. Quote

I completely agree with you, it was a drastic departure and one that ended badly for everyone, developers and gamers. Side note in MAG you only have to press the run button once and you will run, theres no need to hold it, you can even shot and reload while running, I know imagine that Quote
