My cousin is a Navy Chopper pilot. He flies insertions and extractions for the seal teams. He came home from IRAQ briefly last summer between his second and third tours. He can't wait to go back? He said he can't stand being at home while all of his friends are still there. They don't tell him anything about the missions, just where to drop and pickup and when. My best friends dad was in 1st air cav in viet nam. Now a retired lt. col. Had some crazy stories. Said the scene in Apocolypse Now where they raided the beach to go surfing was based on a true story, and he flew support for it. Also received a medal for (accidentally) saving his squad leader. Their chopper was downed and he was hovering and waiting to pick them up when the nva started coming out of the jungle after them. A starburst shell went off right in front of his window and he jumped, firing a rocket off that hit an enemy right in the chest that was bearing down on his co. He felt kinda bad accepting it but did anyways.
