  13. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/06/080630165707.htm Surprised this hasn't been posted yet .... ScienceDaily (July 1, 2008) — A cold slice of watermelon has long been a Fourth of July holiday staple. But according to recent studies, the juicy fruit may be better suited for Valentine’s Day. That’s because scientists say watermelon has ingredients that deliver Viagra-like effects to the body’s blood vessels and may even increase libido. See also: Health & Medicine * Heart Disease * Hypertension * Erectile Dysfunction Plants & Animals * Food * Agriculture and Food * Soil Types Reference * Erectile dysfunction * Berry * Seedless Fruit * Hyperglycemia “The more we study watermelons, the more we realize just how amazing a fruit it is in providing natural enhancers to the human body,†said Dr. Bhimu Patil, director of Texas A&M’s Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center in College Station. “We’ve always known that watermelon is good for you, but the list of its very important healthful benefits grows longer with each study.†Beneficial ingredients in watermelon and other fruits and vegetables are known as phyto-nutrients, naturally occurring compounds that are bioactive, or able to react with the human body to trigger healthy reactions, Patil said. In watermelons, these include lycopene, beta carotene and the rising star among its phyto-nutrients – citrulline – whose beneficial functions are now being unraveled. Among them is the ability to relax blood vessels, much like Viagra does. Scientists know that when watermelon is consumed, citrulline is converted to arginine through certain enzymes. Arginine is an amino acid that works wonders on the heart and circulation system and maintains a good immune system, Patil said. “The citrulline-arginine relationship helps heart health, the immune system and may prove to be very helpful for those who suffer from obesity and type 2 diabetes,†said Patil. “Arginine boosts nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels, the same basic effect that Viagra has, to treat erectile dysfunction and maybe even prevent it.†While there are many psychological and physiological problems that can cause impotence, extra nitric oxide could help those who need increased blood flow, which would also help treat angina, high blood pressure and other cardiovascular problems. “Watermelon may not be as organ specific as Viagra,†Patil said, “but it’s a great way to relax blood vessels without any drug side-effects.†The benefits of watermelon don’t end there, he said. Arginine also helps the urea cycle by removing ammonia and other toxic compounds from our bodies. Citrulline, the precursor to arginine, is found in higher concentrations in the rind of watermelons than the flesh. As the rind is not commonly eaten, two of Patil’s fellow scientists, drs. Steve King and Hae Jeen Bang, are working to breed new varieties with higher concentrations in the flesh. In addition to the research by Texas A&M, watermelon’s phyto-nutrients are being studied by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service in Lane, Oklahoma. As an added bonus, these studies have also shown that deep red varieties of watermelon have displaced the tomato as the lycopene king, Patil said. Almost 92 percent of watermelon is water, but the remaining 8 percent is loaded with lycopene, an anti-oxidant that protects the human heart, prostate and skin health. “Lycopene, which is also found in red grapefruit, was historically thought to exist only in tomatoes,†he said. “But now we know that it’s found in higher concentrations in red watermelon varieties.†Lycopene, however, is fat-soluble, meaning that it needs certain fats in the blood for better absorption by the body, Patil said. “Previous tests have shown that lycopene is much better absorbed from tomatoes when mixed in a salad with oily vegetables like avocado or spinach,†Patil said. “That would also apply to the lycopene from watermelon, but I realize mixing watermelon with spinach or avocadoes is a very hard sell.†No studies have been conducted to determine the timing of the consumption of oily vegetables to improve lycopene absorption, he said. “One final bit of advice for those Fourth of July watermelons you buy,†Patil said. “They store much better uncut if you leave them at room temperature. Lycopene levels can be maintained even as it sits on your kitchen floor. But once you cut it, refrigerate. And enjoy.â€
  14. From Hugo, he has done nothing wrong. Really, everyone needs to understand the world's oil pirices are set on the NYMEX. You can speculate with little or no money, this is what has lead to the rise in gas prices. Oil has been a safehaven for BIG money since the equity market took a shit. We need them to change the margin requirements and make them higher, it needs to take more money to take a position in the world's oil market. The price of oil will not be fair until this is realized. It is not the oil company's faults, most are hedged and do not sell their oil at these levels anyways.
  15. We are using 30% of our corn in the USA to make 3% of the gasoline. Ethynol is why all food prices are going up, ethynol is something the farmers want to get more money.
  16. On the contrary.. This email is very mistaken, misleading, & incorrect, but the point is DEAD ON. IF we can all buy gas from companies that buy their oil or more of their oil from countries like Canada (which is the HIGHEST exporter of crude oil in the world) then we are making a difference. And that impact can/will be felt in the gulf. Or do you not see it that way.? If you don't buy the cheapest oil (from saudi arabia), then the we pay more.
  17. I am so sick of this guy, won't he just go away
  18. I use Tversity, it is good. Was using windows media player, but then it was taking all my ram to run it. My computer was so slow.
  19. This email is BS, it says if the oil is not from the middle east then it is american. Just because you buy your gas from one of the companies with a zero does not mean it is american oil, that oil could be from a number of other areas in the world. Besides, the price of oil is set by traders who are in New York city, not the middle eastern countries. I was looking at that yesterday, you can speculate on oil and only put up 6.7% of the money upfront. http://www.nymex.com/CL_marg.aspx That initial margin requirement of $9625 would be on appx $145000 of oil. So if you want $145000 of leverage you just have to put up $9625 at the start. And that does not have be in cash, you can put up a letter of credit from a bank, US treasuries, etc. As far as citgo and venezula goes, I think that most americans have no idea about the history there and therefore do not understand the context of the current situation there. Most americans form their opinions about that country by what our biased media reports.
  20. No, it was at a bar and that would have been really stupid. He was busy fighting all the women off anyways.
  21. The Red Sox player was telling me how Gomes was a girl for scratching the Coco, I told the Red sox fan to go and tell that to him. Gomes came over and was giving the guy a hard time about being a boston fan, in a joking way. Then around us said something like the guy was defending Coco. Next thing I know he is in his face asking the guy how he could like Coco. It all ended friendly a few minutes later, but Gomes was all up in his business once Coco was mentioned. Yeah we he first got there, he had like three women all around him. Our backup catcher was also there too.
  22. For anyone who is a baseballl fan..... I went to the redsox / rays game today, I saw the rays win. Went to a bar I know the players go afterwords. Johnny Gomes showed up. I was talking shit to a gay (really, he has his boyfriend there) red sox fan. Next thing I know Johnny Gomes (who I saw earlier) was there next to me talking to a red sox fan and myself and a few friends, about Coco Crisp. I told Gomes that Coco deserved everything and congratulated him on his pinch hit home run against the pirates. Before Gomes came over the gay red sox fan and his boyfriend were talking shit about how Gomes scratched Coco up, I told the Gay guy to go say it to his face. Let me know if you wanna know what Gomes said to the gay sox fan or if your in Tampa and want to know the place where the players party after games and I will tell you. I just thought it was really cool that Gomes confronted a Sox fan about Coco and the fight.
