  1. Back in 1996, legendary Game Director Shinji Mikami delivered an all-new way to experience suspense, horror, and action all together with Resident Evil. The game remains one of the most heralded games of its generation, and with it, Mikami-san became the creator of a new genre: survival horror. Eight years later, Mikami raised the bar for the genre with Resident Evil 4. Now 10 years later, with the support of his talented team at Tango Gameworks, the mind of Mikami is going back down a dark and twisted road… this time with The Evil Within. A game filled with terrifying and tense moments, it’s the perfect game for the month of October. In The Evil Within, you play as Detective Sebastian Castellanos, who after investigating a horrendous massacre at Krimson City’s Mental Hospital, is thrust into a bizarre world filled with menacing creatures and a mysterious evil stemming from the mind of a mad man, Ruvik. Spanning 15 challenging chapters, expect plenty of twists, unbelievable challenges, and memorable moments throughout. In our launch trailer above, get a tease of what to expect in the game – available today for PS3 and PS4. View the full article
  2. We’re back with the second and final installment in our behind the scenes video diary for The Legend of Korra — produced in partnership with Nickelodeon and developer PlatinumGames. Part two takes us deeper into this incredible world of elements and spirits, beginning with a more personal look at the Avatar herself, Korra, who struggles with her own powers and the weight of the decisions she’s made between Books 2 and 3 of Nickelodeon’s animated TV series. We also get to see PlatinumGames’ new combat and progression systems in action, which faithfully recreate Korra’s unique mastery of nature and the martial arts for some potentially devastating combos and finishers. The full adventure includes opportunities to ride Korra’s polar bear dog companion, Naga, in high-speed gameplay scenes through Republic City and beyond, as well as a separate game mode in which Korra and her allies take on the competitive challenges of the pro-bending league arena. And if you missed it, be sure to check out part one of our series, which looks at how Nickelodeon, Activision Publishing, and PlatinumGames found themselves working on this one-of-a-kind project. Legend of Korra is available for pre-order now on PlayStation Store. View the full article

  5. Today is the day, friends! Nidhogg is out on PS4, Vita, and Playstation TV! If you haven’t played it already, its a crazy fun two-player fencing-fighting game great for parties and awesome for online and offline play at home. The launch price is $14.99, and for PS Plus members, it’s on sale for $11.99 until October 28th. The best part is that Nidhogg features cross-buy and cross-play; meaning, if you own one, you own them all, and you can play across platforms! If you prefer playing with your friends in person, you can throw a Nidhogg party, since there is a built in tournament mode for three to eight people. You can play in single-player mode against AI opponents, or you can connect to PSN over wifi and play against other players, whether they’re on a Vita, PS4, or PlayStation TV! You can even play online across systems, such as: Vita vs PS4, Vita vs PlayStationTV, or PS4 vs PSTV. If you’re out of wifi range and you just want to play someone on the bus, or on a long car trip with two Vitas, you can do that in Vita to Vita ad-hoc mode. If you just have one Vita and two people, you can still play! The left stick controls one player and the right stick controls the other! Nidhogg’s soundscape consists of four dynamic songs by electronic music magician, Daedelus. The music track levels change based on the action on-screen, so you’ll never hear the same version twice! We hope you are as excited to play Nidhogg as we are in bringing it to you — en garde! View the full article
  6. Starting today, the PlayStation Now Open Beta will be available on both the PS Vita and PlayStation TV systems in much of the mainland U.S. and Canada, in addition to already being available on PS4 and PS3*. Our vision for PS Now is to make it possible for more people than ever to have quick and easy access to PS3 games, making it as easy to stream these games as it is to stream TV, movies, and music. PS Vita is an important part of that vision, as you’ll be able to rent a game on one device, like PS4, then continue playing on your PS Vita or vice versa. That’s possible because of our cloud technology, which lets you play select PS3 games from our library of over 150 PS Now titles including God of War: Ascension on both a home console and a handheld device without the need for game downloads, installs, or patches. PS Now makes the value of PS TV even better. The system, which launches today and starts as low as $99.99 MSRP, also provides one of the most affordable ways to get access to our library of PS3 games available on PS Now. In order to get access to the PS Now Open Beta, you’ll need to download the PS Now app from PlayStation Store. We’ll continue to collect feedback from PS Vita and PS TV users – keep it coming, and we hope you enjoy! *Service not available in all areas. A steady broadband connection greater than 5Mbps is highly recommended. See us.playstation.com/playstationnow for details. View the full article
  7. PlayStation TV makes its debut today in North America with hundreds of games available to play. Whether you’re using PS TV to play PS4 games in another room of your house through Remote Play, or playing PS Vita hits like Killzone: Mercenary on the big screen, the system has something for everyone. Starting at $99.99 (MSRP) for the standalone system, it’s one of the best deals in gaming. It’s easy to set up, yet offers amazingly deep gameplay. It sits in a special place in the PlayStation platform ecosystem – as it can play titles from PS Vita, PSone , PSP, PS3 (through PS Now), and PS4 (through Remote Play). Of course PS TV plays entertainment content, including popular movies and TV shows that can be downloaded from PlayStation Store. PS TV will also launch with video streaming apps Crackle, Crunchyroll and Qello, and stay tuned for additional entertainment content we’ll be adding soon to the PS TV lineup. In addition, PlayStation Now is available on PS TV in much of the mainland U.S. and Canada* and will launch with games for the whole family like Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, Sly Cooper: HD Collection, and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. You can also pick up the PS TV bundle we’re offering this holiday, which includes a PS TV unit, DualShock 3 controller, 8GB memory card, and a voucher for The Lego Movie Videogame – all for $139.99 (MSRP). I hope you’ll get as much enjoyment out of this small, simply amazing platform as I have. Let us know below which PS TV games you’re looking forward to! *Service not available in all areas. A steady broadband connection greater than 5Mbps is highly recommended. See us.playstation.com/playstationnow for details. View the full article

You’ll find the difficulty rating on the level detail window just under the thumbnail image. One thing to note is that in order for there to be a rating, a level must have been played at least 10 times. This means that many levels will not having ratings yet. 10. Hello, Dominic Matthews here from Ninja Theory. I wanted to come back to PlayStation.Blog to share our latest development diary with you and to also give an update on how things are progressing with the creation of our new PS4 title Hellblade. Back in August we announced Hellblade at PlayStation’s Gamescom Press Conference, which at the time was just 4 months into development. By traditional standards, we were announcing the game incredibly early in development. The reason for such an early announcement is that we want to share as much of Hellblade’s development with you as we possibly can. The standard approach is for games and their development to be hidden away, with details slowly drip fed to players very carefully and slowly over time. But we want to do the opposite. We announced early so that we could start sharing our development approach, creative exploration and decision making from the very beginning. Since Gamescom we’ve been updating our site with regular development diary videos, blog posts, concept art and live streams. We’ve released three development diaries to date, focused on the announcement trailer, Hellblade’s art inspiration and the game’s protagonist, Senua, respectively. Today, I’m very pleased to be sharing with you our very latest development diary, No. 4: Creating the World. This episode focuses on the approach that we’re taking to create Hellblade’s world with just one Environment Artist and the artistic vision behind it. The Hellblade team, which consists of 13 people, is currently embarking on the prototyping phase of development. In prototyping we’ll be exploring game mechanics, art styles, and technologies. Despite the small team, this is probably our most ambitious game yet. We are leaping into the unknown and overturning much of what we know about game making to make Hellblade play, look and feel special. Thanks a lot for reading, I hope to come back soon, but in the meantime I hope you follow our journey, get involved in the discussions and let us know what you think of our work so far. The journey is very much a part of the Hellblade experience. View the full article
  11. When PlayStation TV was first announced, we were super excited at the idea of having Killzone Mercenary running on a big TV screen. So, we went to work on making that idea happen, and are pleased to announce we can finally share the results. Killzone Mercenary update 1.11 is now available across all regions, bringing full support for the PlayStation TV system to Mercenary. The game does indeed look fantastic on the big screen, and the DualShock controls bring a new feel to the game’s mechanics. We’ve reworked all the touch mechanics to maximize the experience when played with those controls. Knowing that PS Vita players will play directly with PlayStation TV players online, we’ve worked hard to ensure the game is balanced for both parties, without either one having a competitive advantage. Also, as part of update 1.11 and in response to player feedback, we’ve finally been able to implement a restart-from-checkpoint system into the game — so campaign players can save progress mid-mission and return to it at a later date, without needing to hit the suspend button! Happy hunting Mercs, and don’t forget to let us know what you think to the changes. View the full article

  18. Hello again!! Powers: Learn More This is Brian Bendis, the executive producer of the PlayStation original series Powers and co-creator of the comic book series the show is based on. I am broadcasting to you from New York City where we are just a day away from our Powers panel at New York Comic Con. For those of you who don’t know, Powers is an original series that will be available free for PlayStation Plus members. And it’s produced by Sony Pictures Television, the talented studio behind Breaking Bad. Powers tells the story of homicide detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who are ordinary detectives working on cases that just so happen to involve people with extraordinary powers. As we speak, the show is filming in Atlanta under the showrunning genius of Charlie Huston, the critically acclaimed crime novelist. Every day I get to sift through the footage from the day before and every day I smile ear to ear because the show looks so good and the actors are giving amazing performances. I can’t wait to share this show with all of you – the comic book and gamer communities. So this Saturday at New York Comic Con, we’ll be debuting the very first trailer for Powers — including exclusive footage from the show! Tomorrow, the brilliant actor Eddie Izzard himself will give you insight into his role as one of the most terrifying villains you’ve ever seen on screen: Wolfe. As a special treat, here’s a sneak peek of Eddie as Wolfe, a Power who has been pushed beyond the edge of madness. So, for everyone coming to New York Comic Con we’ll see you this Saturday at 1:15pm Eastern for the Powers cast signing where you can get the brand-new, hot-off-the-press, exclusive Powers poster you see at the top of this post — for free! At 3:15pm I’ll take the stage for the very first time with Powers cast members: Game of Thrones’ Noah Taylor, Detective Deena Pilgrim herself Susan Heyward, Logan Browning who plays Zora, Olesya Rulin who plays Calista, the young girl at the heart of the series, and of course Eddie Izzard. I’ve been making comics and graphic novels for many years, so I can tell you firsthand that panels like this are a lot of fun. For those of you who can’t make it all the way to New York for our panel, you will be able to watch the panel streaming live on the PlayStation Twitch channel. Click here to stream it live! I know many of you are eagerly awaiting the show and have been all over social media telling us as much… thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope you like what you see — just note that what we’re showing is only a teeny tiny taste of what we have coming. Be sure to check back after the show, when I’ll give you my wrap up report on everything that happened at New York Comic Con. View the full article

  21. Abandoned mansions. Window-shattering dogs. That iconic zombie moan. So many gamers have memories of the original Resident Evil. It is, after all, a legend in the gaming space and one of the forefathers of the survival horror genre. Fortunately for those who want to re-experience Chris and Jill’s original fight for survival, Capcom is bringing Resident Evil to PS4 and PS3 in early 2015. Last week I took a few nervous steps through the mansion for myself and was mauled almost immediately. Still had fun! To start, the upcoming remaster of Resident Evil is based on the remake from 2002, which was already a tremendous leap forward in visual fidelity. The fearless members of S.T.A.R.S. were remodeled, the environments were enhanced, and even the dialogue was re-recorded (R.I.P. Jill Sandwich). The upcoming remaster has been shined to an even brighter (Or darker?) polish, with 1080p visuals and 5.1 surround sound on PS4. Even the smallest details — like the flickering flame of a candle or the sway of overhead branches — have been touched up by the team. Resident Evil supports various display and control options, as well. Want to play in the original 4:3? Do it. Prefer a widescreen, camera-panning view? Resident Evil has that, too. The development team has even included the original “tank controls†for survival horror purists, though a simple selection in the options menu allows for modern movement control instead. Regardless of your preferences, Resident Evil remains a game of great detail. Listen for the fluttering of moths near lamplight, or the creaking steps of a zombie hidden just out of view. Note Jill’s reflection in the tiled floors, or the intricate design of a chandelier. Though the primary goal is survival (and the desperate collection of ink ribbons), it’s hard not to admire the smaller pieces that fit together into the larger puzzle. And somehow, Resident Evil’s high ceilings and tall windows still feel claustrophobic. Part of the fun is navigating these environments and recalling the same fear many of us felt while huddled under blankets in 1996. In fact, Resident Evil still lends itself extremely well to group play. The sudden scares, moment-to-moment inventory choices, and over-the-top story all pair well with a crowded couch — and optional beers, if the players are responsible adults of course. Like the foundation laid by the original, Resident Evil is not a wholly single-player game, but an experience to be shared, discussed, and enjoyed with friends. And really, we’ll take any excuse to witness the majesty that is Barry Burton. Resident Evil launches early next year on PS4 and PS3. View the full article
  22. It’s really exciting to finally bring the Defense Grid franchise to the world of PlayStation! With the release of Defense Grid 2 on PS4, we now get to share the balance, polish, and creativity that has made Defense Grid famous. It’s considered one of the very best Tower Defense games ever built and we now get to share a new experience with a new set of players — and on a great next-generation platform. To take on this challenge, we looked closely at how Defense Grid 2 could be its very best on PS4. All the key game features are here, of course: the full story campaign with 21 levels, extensive challenge modes with hundreds of towers and aliens all active at once, smooth performance, great control and response, superfast load times, and dynamic music, voice acting and story that gives a Defense Grid campaign its character and ambiance. When we brought multiplayer to Defense Grid 2, its integration with the PlayStation Network really shined. Not only does Defense Grid 2 make it easy to invite a friend or search for a particular game type you’d like to play, but if that friend isn’t quite ready, or others aren’t yet looking for the exact same game type you want to play, we let you play the game while waiting, and give you an indicator saying that your game search is still ongoing in the background. Once a match is found, or your friend has joined you, we automatically save your single player game in progress and drop you right into your multiplayer game. PS4 supports all the modes we wanted to have in Defense Grid 2. There’s DG Fighter, our competitive mode that has two players simultaneously protecting their cores while sending defeated aliens over to the other player to deal with. It can become very competitive and very frantic quickly. Doubles mode sees you and another online player tackling any mode in the game together cooperatively. Coordinated Defense — our hybrid cooperative / competitive mode — also makes an appearance on PSN. Thanks to PSN, we were able to use certain cool features to create individualized friend leaderboards and show them to you on various menu screens. It’s easy to see if you’re first, second, or maybe even last amongst your group of friends on a particular map, mode, difficulty or type. There are thousands of ways to play a level in Defense Grid 2 and we have you covered with a leaderboard for every type and icons to show which difficulty mode a score was achieved on. Of course, two controller couch play is supported in Defense Grid 2. All the Doubles and Coordinated Defense modes are supported for couch play with both players playing on the same screen for fast performance and a fun two player experience. Take on the full campaign together just by activating the second controller as you play. It’s all very simple and elegant on PS4 and we had a fun time crafting the features to fit the platform perfectly. As you dive deeper into Defense Grid 2′s feature set, you’ll see that the extra memory and horsepower on PS4 helped us create dynamic maps where levels actually move and add in tower build squares as you play, or give you the option to spend resources to move sections of the map around or add in new places to build towers and fight back the incoming alien invaders. You’ll even see some new modes where we give you the power to augment your towers of destruction with a cursor that does damage to the aliens directly, but also ends up speeding them up as a side effect, perhaps getting them to the cores or the exit faster. Do be careful with all that power. We hope you enjoy playing Defense Grid 2 on PS4 as much as we have enjoyed building it for you, and we hope you have a tremendous amount of enjoyment and entertainment as you beat back the alien menace and protect the cores! – Jeff Pobst & John Daud View the full article
  23. Hunters, shooter fans, giant monsters, unite! 2K and Turtle Rock’s multiplayer shooter Evolve is getting a closed “Big Alpha†test later this month. Do you enjoy the occasional, death-defying hunt through exotic alien jungles? Or do you prefer the confidence of a lumbering giant that hurls rocks at prey? Evolve caters to both play styles! The closed alpha test is happening on PS4 from October 31st to November 2nd. Please mark your calendars. Evolve’s been playable at select tradeshows earlier this year, but for many of you this will be your first and best chance to see what Turtle Rock has cooking before it launches. Evolve is still months out from its release date on February 10th, so getting in now is recommended if you’re impatient. Which is totally fine. Because this is a limited closed alpha test, you’ll need a code to register for a chance to participate. Fortunately, we have one for you below. Use before it expires and remember that you must have an active PS Plus membership to play. 63334-59648-17396 Use Referral Code: PlayStation4v1 Redeem the code at: http://evolvegame.com/bigalpha As a thank you to those that have already pre-ordered the game, those folks are guaranteed access to the Big Alpha. Anyone who pre-orders the game between now and October 21st can also guarantee themselves access. Smart. Please note: The countries listed here are unable to participate in the Big Alpha. 24. It’s definitely a big month for us over at Telltale! You might have caught our announcement last week about The Walking Dead: Season Two coming to PS4, PS3, and PS Vita at retail… well, we’ve got even more good news for fans today. The Wolf Among Us: A Telltale Games Series will ALSO be arriving in stores for PS4, PS3, and PS Vita on November 4th! For those who prefer to run more in the virtual world, the full season will be downloadable for PS4 and PS Vita as well (you can already get all 5 episodes via digital download for PS3). Not familiar with The Wolf Among Us? Check out the trailer we’ve prepared especially for this retail release. Experiencing scenes from The Wolf Among Us finale again as they’re put together in this trailer is kind of amazing for me — remembering this stuff still sends a shiver down my spine. It’s very tense, a little bit creepy, and a LOT of awesome. The series is based on DC/Vertigo Comics’ Eisner Award-winning comic series FABLES by Bill Willingham. In short, it follows the stories of fairy tale characters like Snow White and the Big Bad Wolf, living in exile in the modern era, trying to keep their society of Fables hidden in plain sight amongst the humans of New York City. The Wolf Among Us takes place long before the first comic, so whether you know the series or not, it makes for both a great introduction to the universe, and a critical and canonical prequel detailing the story one of Fabletown’s most grisly murder cases. As ever, thanks for reading, and be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments below! View the full article
  25. I guess it’s not really surprising, but Destiny swept the charts for September! Commanding the number one spot on both PS4 and PS3, Bungie’s galactic trek has earned its place in consoles worldwide. Anybody finish the Vault of Glass yet? Minecraft PS4 Edition grabbed second place, with FIFA 15 and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor making confident entrances.
