HippieChik Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 I'm agreeing with Tool here. We all have done stupid things when we were younger and looking back realize just how lucky we were that someone didn't get seriously injured. I would FREAK OUT if my boys EVER do some of the DUMB, "not thinking of the consequences" things that I have done. I doubt that Nick got into his car and thought to himself, "I'm going to street race tonight, crash, and put my friend into a vegetative state." Young people make dumb decisions which lead to horrible consequences sometimes. Now he's in jail and still TOO YOUNG to realize the impact of what has resulted. Maybe with time and through self-reflection he will BEGIN to comprehend the aftermath. Probably not though. I think he's too young to "get it" hence the phone call to his dad. Quote
SHANE23 Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 Tool, I agree to a point. WHEN I took those chances they only involved ME. If something was going to happen I was the one that was going to get injured. IF there was anyone in the car with me they KNEW what was going on and accepted it. They didn't say slow down or don't do it, they said "Let's go". Now if something would have happened I would have felt guilty as hell! The fact that the Hogan's are over it is pretty disgusting in itself. Quote

[RIP]saint52 Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 I can remember doing dumb shit yes, but I rarely ever endangered my friends or even other people if I could avoid it. I fought allot growing up not cause I wanted to, because I had to. I became every good at hurting people but never liked it. And that transended through my older years, if I gambled with my life, it was my life and my life alone. But tool, I feel ya, we have all done shit and said afterward,"Holy shit, I should be dead or can believe we made it lol". But how Nick has handled it and the whole family is horrible. They are only concerned about themselves, and its sad, not only because of the kid, but how sad is it to see a family that is so off centered? I swear on my life, if my brother had been in that car and this was going on, for all that I believe in, I would keep that f'in kid chained to a wall as I tortured him.....and thats not a joke. Its one thing to make a mistake, but its entire different to not give a shit. Quote
CZambrano Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 It's just messed up to me, because none of us really knows this kid. We only know what the media wants us to know, hence the phone call. Do they release every conversation he has with his parents? How do you know there aren't conversations in there that show Nicks remorse and regret for the situation? Let's just assume there are. People would hear them, say good for Nick, but they wouldn't get as much attention, because people don't give a shit about feel good stories. No matter what, people would spin it and say, "well, why the fuck do we care what Nick has to say, this kid John is laying in the hospital and we are listening to phone calls about how sorry Nick is, etc" People love the negativity and the media knows it, that's why they cherry picked this phone call. It was a poor choice of words, but I'm willing to bet that this one single phone call doesn't encompass his entire outlook on the situation. Quote

BIGDANIEL Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 HippieChik ]I have a few issues with all of this. My first question is why was his conversation with his dad released for all to hear? It's really none of anyone's business. They don't go releasing the phone scripts everytime some scumbag calls home. My guess is that most conversations would sound about the same, yet no one is "enraged". Just because he is the son of a celebrity doesn't mean his crime or attitude about it is any more deplorable than a crime/bad attitude of any other person sitting in jail. Second, you think he's the only person sitting in jail who DOESN'T feel "bad" for what he did to get there? No, most certainly not! Every one in jail is innocent. Only reason anyone has a problem with it is because his family has $$$. I certainly don't condone the attitude. I just find it ridiculous when people start crying outrage at something like this. It's obvious the kid is selfish. But what's even worse ... THAT IS TODAY'S YOUNGER GENERATION! Now THERE'S something to be outraged about. 1. All phone conversations are taped. They are public record. Someone within the media requested the tapes. Society doesn't care about some scumbag calling home. They care about a high profile kid who is talking about a TV show with his dad without ever once showing remorse for his "FRIEND". 2. Now I don't know you so I'm not sure if this question is dripping with sarcasm or not. I hope so though. And I agree that there is a rise in the number of todays youth who are selfish to the point that they are oblivious to the needs and welfare of others. Of course, we could just be getting old and beginning that phase of adulthood where we find ourselves loathing the younger generations. Much like our parents did. And their parents did to them. I don't want to get old. :'( Quote
