Question: In the context of money, where did the term "buck" come from? Example: "You owe me 100 bucks dude, pay up!!"

With out research, my answer is..."A Buck" is shortened from Saw Buck meaning a hundred, like as in a hundred teeth on a saw, so one buck, is one out of a hundred?

It was a term used when dealing with native persons. Trading buckskins was kind of a monetary system hundreds of years ago.

First off...I HATE YOU SHANE!!! LOL....anyways. Great guesses here guys.

 

Back when my people traded buck skins for metals, and weapons from French and English, one buck skin had a set value. 1 buck skin may buy a metal pot, 2 buck skins may buy sugar. Thus the term buck, which has been around since the late 1700's is still prevelant in todays society.

 

So you guys were dead on. Just thought I would quiz you all abit, and share a bit more of my Native heritage. Thanks for playing along...and I HATE YOU SHANE!!! Indian hater!

I love giving Seq a hard time here and there. We usually get eachother pretty good. The best part is that even our sports teams are rivals so that just adds to the ribbing. He is an Indians fan, I am a White Sox fan although we both hate the Cubs.

 

I will admit though, even though I am a Flyers fan, the Blackhawks have the #1 sports emblem in the world!! That Indian head is AWESOME!

 

Hawks are my #2 team.
