Timed access to a computer??

Hey guys. I have 3 kids in the house and they are always fighting over who gets the computer and for how long.

 

I have a new Dell, along with a good filter, is there a program out there, free if possible, that would require each child to log in, and there would be a set amount of time for each account? Once that is expired they would not be able to log in for the day?

 

I am sure there is, just don't know where to start.

The best way is to set up permissions in your router.

 

For example in a linksys under access restrictions you have a page like this...

 

 

which you can set a policy to restrict access to any PC by its MAC address.. days of the week, times.. etc.. as well as block access to any site... I have a policy which blocks all access to all the PC's in my home except mine and my consoles after 11pm Sun-Thurs. I can turn the policy on and off anytime or change the settings as well as create other restriction policies to use when I want to.

yea but his kids are working off of the same comp, you may be able to place limits on them if you assign each one a user login. What OS are you using?

Quoyah, I don't think there is a client side application that does this. I know with a server you can setup some scheduling but that would limit it to kid 1 from 1PM to 3PM kind of setup, not logged in for 2 hours.

 

What I use to do is have a kitchen timer that when there was a time where 2 wanted time on the PC was to set the timer to 30 minutes, or whatever, then when the timer went off that was it.

oh there all on the same PC? my bad.. what are they using it for internet access for school? if so just pick up a old pc at a garage sale or something for cheap.. or heck drive yourself up here to MN and put one or two together out of the shit load of parts in the warehouse I have. you can help yourself to them! LOL

I actually found a nice program for 20 bucks that lets me set limitations for each user on the pc. I created a user account for each kid, and this program allows you to do all kinds of crap.

 

Its called "times up kidz"
