  1. The ad placement in the first post of every new page of a thread is throwing me off. Took me a minute to figure out what the heck a strategy guide image was doing on the first post.... ...otherwise, new look looks pretty fresh. Nice job, UF.
  2. Perhaps this is simply a generational (clan-wise) issue here. You keep bringing up that each spoof appeals to only a small group. You should understand that, at the time the spoofs were coming out, everyone looked forward to them. Everyone enjoyed them, regardless whether it was their clan or not (because you either got spoofed once, or you never got spoofed...either way, the moment in the spotlight ranged from 0-4 minutes...and that's it). It was enjoyed as a community. Clans liked when their group was spoofed. Other clans liked when that clan got spoofed. It was a community thing...not clans begging/needing/wanting/deserving spoofs of their own. And if that same mentality were evident today, then those ads, however outdated perhaps, would still be enjoyed today for what they are...a slice of comedy within a community, not a slice of comedy within a clan. But perhaps I've missed a lot of what was trying to be said here. I've spent a lot of time on this thread. Came out being not what it should have been. ..................and I'm still buying one of those fucking 101 shirts.
  3. 101 the clan, both current and their history here at UF, is certainly not "non-existent." "Vintage" should not be the word that you use to describe 101, OGC, APC/RVN or any of the other clans that played UF in its beginnings as well as continue to play here today. The words you're looking for are "testament" and "legacy." Get off the shiny and new mentality and give due credit to those clans, and the things that happened with them, who populated this tourney long enough SO you and any "newer" clans could be here and participate...and demand recognition. As for something to offer the community here, why don't you try one of UF's delicious tournaments of honor that they offer solely to clans of dignity...? Oh wait...I just looked at your sig...you already have. Good to see you're making use of and enjoying what this tourney has to offer.
  4. ...........................and I do mean that "with all due respect."
  5. "With all due respect" and "...this is a slap in the face to clans that don't even have spoof ads yet" seems to be very contradictory to me as I read it. Not that a lot of what I read from some individuals on forums isn't nowadays. I feel a certain level of freedom to speak about this as I was one half of the creative effort in all of those "vintage" spoof ads. Though UF is now moving down new roads with new drivers, there are things, like vintage spoof ads, that still have my stank awn 'em. I also feel a certain level of hindrance here, as this arena is no longer overseen by me...and a process here is being questioned. But read on until I overstep my bounds, please. I have a good ability to think around different ranges of perception from various people, from the intelligent to the stupid, from the eclectic to the mundane. It's what allows me to perform in my profession at the top of my game. I am, however, having some trouble finding the "slap in the face" here by UF offering some merchandise for a "vintage" spoof ad, yes, but on a very relevant, current, and respectable clan like 101. What does this mean..."a slap in the face to clans that don't even have a spoof ad yet?" Back in the day when I wrote those...I didn't write them because clans "deserved" anything. I wrote them for fun. I wrote them because a concept and a name fit. I wrote them because I felt like it. No one asked for them. No one had the idea save for the Urgent Frequency team. And during my entire time of writing a dozen or two of those spoof ads on just as many clans...not ONE clan ever posted or PMed me asking me to represent their clan in an ad, much less posted saying they "deserved" one. And then..."And 'then', you expect other clans to buy something of which they may never see created for their own clans?" This isn't about CLANS. The spoofs were NEVER about clans. They were about the ideas...the concepts...the HUMOR. 101 Damnations had NOTHING to do with the 101st Screaming Eagles. There's nothing about them as a clan that screamed "strip club." It was a clan name, paired with an off-the-wall concept, and voila...spoof ad. But if you can't look past that through the tirade here...then simply don't do what UF "expects" of you and just forgo purchasing one. In my humble and sometimes uncalled-for opinion...the only parties here who "deserve recognition" are the parties that put in the effort out of their daily lives to provide entertainment to the masses here who (more often than not) gratefully accept their efforts and (sometimes) bitch and moan about the efforts...and in a very unsavory way of doing it, might I add. There has never...ever been a clan here throughout the entire existence of this tournament who "deserved" something. Clans come here because they want to, not because they were asked. Clans stay here because they want to, not because UF begs it. Clans can play elsewhere if they want to, UF doesn't force you to be exclusive. So if UF provides so much effort, and doesn't require any effort from the clans who play here, then I really don't see one small instance where any clan here deserves ANYTHING...the very least being recognition. Respect is a lot like recognition...it shouldn't be asked for, it's usually deserved and given. Where respect and recognition differ, however, is that respect is usually a good thing to receive, whereas recognition can be a good OR bad thing, depending. The recognition you're asking for is good. The recognition you may receive, because of what you asked for and the way you are asking for it, may be the opposite. If -I- were still writing spoof ads today, however, I think I could safely say that you would receive the very next UF Spoof Ad, if that's any consolation. If you're well-versed in those "oldies but goodies," most were written in good spirits to great groups of players...and some were just written to send a message and piss people off in the process. I say make T-shirts out of all of 'em! And my last parting shot...no disrespect to [sCK] at all, as the lot of you are a talented group. But saying that "there have been a number of clans (including SCK) who have been around for a long time" is a little funny, considering the relative time you've been here, when read by clans that were here since the very first tourney and are still here running strong. Those are the clans that have been here for a "very long time." Though I wouldn't classify your stay here in UF as being in its infancy...I would say you're more in the "adolescent" stage. Give it a few more years before you're seasoned, older, walking around with your cane and your pipe and demanding everything under the sun to be catered to you like the rest of the helpless elderly.
  6. I guess I was fortunate. I had all four taken out in one day at the age of 29...I drove myself home, was fine on a few advil and went to work the next day. Didn't puff up at all or anything. I have heard horror stories, however.
  7. Ok...so I JUST saw this thread.... (I hadn't frequented the Announcements section before...but perhaps I should more often) ...and I have to say, as SOON as I saw that T-shirt, I just about flipped the fuck out sitting here. What.....the.....fuck........ This ain't my clan, but I'm BUYING one of these fucking things! That thing looks awesome and I think it's hilarious, and a great idea, that some of those old spoof ads get splattered on some T-shirts! (I guess you can chalk it up to some old fond memories of mine... ) I'm looking at this shirt and saying..."no one is going to think too much of it as a gaming shirt, if at all." And honestly...the sentiment of the shirt, as well as the tagline, just rocks. I know it'll get some chuckles out of some real life friends of mine. Buying it and wearing it as I spike down on some fools on the vball court later this fall (cuz it's too damn hot to be sporting a shirt on the beach sand this summer here in Chicago). I would LOVE to see more of those old spoof ads make it onto some apparel. This really is cool. Representin' the Furious Commander. Representin' some good guys like 101. Representin' some fond memories of late nights concocting this crazy nonsense! Haha Good show, UF. - TOW
  8. Cool, thank you for the info.
  9. ...does UF have plans for another Socom tourney in the next month or two?
  10. Happy weekend to all. I'm looking forward to hopefully catching the National Anthem playing somewhere this weekend. It's my favorite song ever performed. Always brings a tear to my eye.
  11. Just an FYI......you KNOW they're not going to give you a REAL map and a REAL shotgun, right? j/k
  12. New name. Ditched "o-Undertow-o" and opted for a new one. I was itching for some time to change names (for some master account purposes on my PSN as well), and was going to go drastically different, but the boys in my band let me know that no matter what I picked, a large majority of them were just gonna keep callin' me "Tow" anyway. Curse for having the same name for 7 years. So I compromised and just went with a shorter version. New name...same jackhole.... As for your IE question...everyone has their preferences...but on a developer-level, IE just blows. Always rendering sites incorrectly and has so many outdated versions (IE6, IE7, IE8, etc) that very many sites will "look" different on different versions of IE because they don't want to develop for so many versions. You can optimize a site for Chrome, Firefox, Safari...but when it comes to IE, it's not just IE. It's versions and versions of it, and that's why it sucks.
  13. You should also take ANY information you get through an online chat support feature with a grain of salt. Typical services like that, like LivePerson and such, are used by businesses to give out the small answers...to wade through the small things so their actual company personnel can attend to the heavy lifting. Typically, the people you are speaking with through those services do not work for the company or organization that you are attempting to get information for. This is just a guess...I don't know if it applies here.
  14. You've already begun to help yourself....you got yo angry ass away from IE.
  15. Yeah, no doubt. One thing I didn't consider is if I did want to go with a new master account, that I wouldn't have anything I've previously bought....which I THINK the only thing I care about in that regard is the Cold Front Map Pack...and if that's the case, I can live with getting it again if it means having a master account with a name I mean to have this time instead of one I made when I didn't know what the hell I was naming.
  16. You're wonderful, Puddy. THANK YOU. It worked.
  17. SO I just bought a new Sony surround sound system. In setting it up, I have discovered the wonder of pretty much one-click control regarding the integration of the Sony PS3 with this Sony surround sound system...IF I had the PS3 slim. I looked it up and the PS3 "fatties" do not have this capability. So I looked up my warranty receipt from Best Buy (yes, the same warranty from my wonderful "let's rape Best Buy for everything they've got" story) and my warranty is still good until Sept. of this year! SO...I can go and exchange my PS3 fatty for a Slim. My question... What does this mean for the new PS3 I'll be getting and the "Master Account" name and everything that currently resides on my current fatty? When I get a new PS3, will I need to create a whole new name? Even deeper, will I need to create a whole new account? Even DEEPER! If I WANT to create a whole new master account...this would be the time to do it, correct? For whatever reason, my original master account name was named "UF-TOW" or some shit like that, and I never play on it. Undertow is listed as a sub-account. I'm thinking this would be my opportunity to fix all that? Lots of questions, I know...anyone have a shitload of answers?
  18. Hi everyone... ...I recently ran into an issue I have never encountered before. As I know there are a lot of sig makers and other designers here, I was hoping someone would have a solution. Recently, my Photobucket account did not accept a new sig I was attempting to upload. Image was the same type of png that I always save as. I got an error that said: Image Upload Failed: Upload failed with error: File not uploaded I thought this was something due to Photobucket, so I created an Imageshack account and attempted the same upload. Will not upload. The size is not big (it's just a sig png). My account was not maxed out (which meant it would have worked on my new Imageshack account anyway). I even tried just standard jpgs and, when that failed, just tried a photo from my 'puter that I hadn't messed with in Photoshop. Same results. Anyone ever encounter this or know what the potential problem may be? I appreciate any help. - TOW
  19. In some countries...wonky's pretty sexy. Especially in Thailand. :-X
  20. I don't know why I'm sticking my head in here...this topic is getting a little crazy....though I always like to see discussions being conducted with everyone reading from the same book, and I don't think that's happening here... Hippie, you know I like ya, girl, and I see and agree with many of your points. However: How can this be an attempted attack on UF by proxy? You guys don't even use your gaming names so as to keep FW and UF separate. To now say that because FW was called out, that UF was attacked is just plain wrong. What is going on around here? This was an attack, by proxy, as John had stated because Phrag began this entire thread with: On the flip side, however: This was brought up in response to John's: Hippie brings up a good point here....because lines are getting grayed. As I said in this thread...this is a good community, and it's the COMMUNITY that usually does a good job in passing judgment on wrongdoings. Ostracizing is a typical outcome of this, and clans don't usually last too long beyond that here in UF waters. I would say that banning someone from Hell Week would seem a little extreme in this case and, considering the "past" between FW and OpK, it's definitely an overly-sensitive area. Some type of punishment for the ruse...some type of public flogging for the lie...I can see that. And again...public sway here is always a very strong current. Without going into specifics, as this reference was held within the Clan Leaders section of the UF forum, but a clan leader came forth with the "apology" of having his players playing under his own name during his absence from the game during UF wars. Though mistakes can happen, what I called out was the utter stupidity of these gunners in "forgetting" to log off of his name before a war...especially since it was said that this was being done without the majority of the clan's gunners knowing it wasn't him to begin with. In short, I didn't buy it. Whether or not UF did is up for debate, but the outcome was a suspension with the promise of play when the suspension ran its course. THAT to me is a GRIEVOUS error performed by that clan leader...and in an actual tournament, no less...and the clan walked away with a 60 day suspension from any participation. In this situation...some dude lied. Not in a tourney. Not about a clan. Some dude lied about his name when he posted. That's about it. Though I've already gone on record in this thread saying that was just childish and stupid, not to mention unproductive to the topic of ranking up, it had nothing to do with game play here, had nothing to do with a tournament and had nothing to do with how it affected the play of another clan here in UF. The FW gunners might have been ranking up...or they might not have been...who knows. FW will determine that and figure it out on their own. But the dude lied about his name on a forum...so I do not understand how a clan should be banned from Hell Week participation. I can see it if players in that video had the [OpK] tag on, and the community here in UF might find this shady right off the bat from meeting a new clan going into Hell Week...but that's not the tag in the video. Yet, some clan within the community, in actual UF wars, were found ringing...and they just get a 60-day suspension from tourneys. So I agree with Hippie that the charge may not necessarily fit the crime here. However...players from FW will intimately know OpK players better than the rest of us, and the UF admins may be passing this judgment over this clan due to additional facts we may not know about. But if there is a complete barring of a clan from Hell Week, I think the community should know the entirety of these facts, because if it's being based off of, again, "some dude lying..." then it may not necessarily fit the crime. I just think given the nature of the relationship between these two clans, and their association, however distant, with the admins of UF...this is just a muddy situation altogether. And as for Phrag continuing to post up videos.....dude, stop. We know what the hell rank up rooms look like. It's getting annoying.
  21. That was a name that popped into my head....only because I don't know what the hell a ChipTheRip is supposed to mean, but I do remember that Deutscher prided himself as a body builder or something..."ripped" whatever.....maybe?
  22. What sucks here is that you decided to throw up a subject like this under a disguise. I don't know you enough to wonder why you felt you needed to do this, or fabricate your story as a clan just checking UF out. Just devoid of common sense and more childish, if I was asked. This doesn't discount the fact that someone from the community was found in what appears to be a rank up room. Sad, to be sure, but at the same time, I'm not certain that being in a rank-up room affects anything that happens here at UF. Rank? Has nothing to do with an ability to play (and win) here in UF. As for a correlation between the type of "honorable" play you would find here and the lack of honorable play we generally believe comes from rank-up players goes, you have saved me about 5 paragraphs of copy explaining why UF is the gem of honorable play in a sea of toilet water by lying your ass off as to your true identity. Now that we know you're someone who's no stranger to UF, then I suppose I don't have to explain to you that as with any population here on Earth, there are the vast majority of citizens that will have a few unsavory seeds mingling within. The idea of a Utopia where honor and integrity runs through 100% of every fiber of ever player is as much a myth as the possibility of eradicating racism. If you want to accuse someone from FW or whatever clan of cheating or ranking up or slapping a wet pig in the fucking face, then just do so. You have every right to do that here, especially in this arena. But if you want to try and chip away at the pillars of UF, insinuating that this tourney's ideals and principles are based upon the game play of 1 or 2 individuals, then you're wasting your time on a fool's errand. Even if the two people in the crosshairs were Shane and John, and not these other two, even those two could not tarnish the overall atmosphere here at UF, because they do not outweigh the girth of the thousands of players that not only participate, but PROTECT this gaming community and the ideals with which we participate with. Though I don't view ranking up in a positive light, I certainly don't think your approach was successful in its delivery, nor intent. I basically read this as a "mom, Jimmie said that he has my blue truck and he's going to bury it in the yard where I'll never find it again, mommy, and I told him no but he just laughed and said I'll never find it and its the truck that you gave me and he said it'll be lost forever, mommy, and he also said that I'm too short to be a boy." Too much effort and fabrication for too little a subject matter.
  23. Oh do I hate Bill Engvall....don't know what it is about that guy. Friend sat me down to watch one of his stand-ups once and I think I looked at my buddy at least 4 times during, saying "when the hell is he supposed to be funny." It's never his comedy...his comedy is ok. His delivery just irritates me.

  25. I really love the "Go ahead, Drink and Drive" one. We should see more of those across the country.
