A village sits empty. The scattered remnants of life strewn over street corners and across the cluttered, quiet counters of kitchens. What happened? What’s left in the wake of such a catastrophic incident? These are the questions you’ll attempt to answer in Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, which is out this week on PS4. Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture tells a haunting, beautiful narrative in the aftermath of the apocalypse. Evie Frye speaks, stands, and moves like an assassin. Fitting, of course, considering her close adherence to the Creed and her mastery of the shadows. She, alongside her brother Jacob, serve as the two playable protagonists in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate on PS4. They mean to take back London from Templar control. But, as I experienced during my time with Syndicate, Evie is designed with stealth players in mind — more so than her rather puckish, headstrong counterpart. Drifting up to a small pier next to the Tower of London, Evie plots the assassination of a valuable target. Amidst the evening sway of street musicians and the clatter of passing, horse-drawn carriages, Evie moves with the characteristic calmness of a highly-trained killer. But her skillset extends beyond her predecessors and includes techniques that highlight her specialization in the art of stealth. Evie can blend into the streets with near-perfect results, giving her and players an additional avenue for stealth play (and an escape route when things go terribly wrong). Couple this with the new rope launcher — which Jacob can also use — and the stealth game of Syndicate feels markedly different from previous entries in the series. The rope launcher sends our friendly neighborhood assassins rocketing into the air and also gives them a means of moving from one building to the next at a much quicker pace. The moment-to-moment gameplay of Syndicate should still feel familiar to long-time Assassin’s Creed devotees. A mix of stealth, traversal, and counter-heavy combat oscillates in real-time as missions change by the minute. The sudden arrival of a guard may throw a well-laid plan down the drain, demanding strategic use of Eagle Vision to spot potential threats and track them as they wind through alleyways and across rooftops. Evie moves through these massive environments handily, dispatching guards in both lethal and nonlethal fashion. Choosing how to tackle missions is a highlight of Syndicate, as the development team has put black box missions (missions open to player choice) at the forefront of the experience. Players can choose how to approach a target, either by interacting with agents of interest (a friendly character, key master, or the like) or simply pressing on and carving a path of their own design. While certain story missions will require Evie or Jacob’s participation, the open world of London will give players their choice. And if my time with Evie is any indication, stealth players will most enjoy donning the stylish coat and hood of Ms. Frye to take full advantage of her chameleon-esque techniques. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate launches October 23rd on PS4. View the full article

Hey everyone! Nayan from Playism here. We released Astebreed just a little while ago, but it’s just the beginning of what we’re hoping to do with our releases on PlayStation. The next game we’re launching is TorqueL on PS4 and PS Vita, a physics-based, side-scrolling puzzle game with a minimalistic art style, developed by FullPowerSideAttack.com. You play a particularly well-dressed gentleman trapped inside of a box. Using this unusual means of conveyance, our plucky hero must overcome obstacles, avoid pits, and get to the goal of each level. To do this, you can roll your box around the environment by pushing the left stick in the appropriate direction, but without the ability to jump, getting over pits or up hills is going to be a challenge. Luckily, you have a trick up your magnificent sleeves. Each side of the box is mapped to one of the four face buttons, and pressing said button “extends†that side. Using momentum and gravity you’ll soon be flying through the air and making your way to the goal in style. Packed with 50 stages of death-defying, gravity-reversing, topsy turvy puzzle action madness, TorqueL is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita on August 11th for just $9.99, and will be a cross buy supported. We can’t wait for all you action puzzle fans to get your hands on TorqueL and find out why it’s worth a spin! View the full article

Hey, dood! It’s been a wild ride fighting against the Lost in the Netherworlds lately, but soon the tide will change with your help when Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance comes out on October 6th on PS4! Everyone’s out for revenge against Void Dark these days, especially Master Killia and Madam Seraphina, and we need all the buffs we can get. Thankfully, Madam Seraphina’s pocket Netherworld is packed with new features, such as the Curry Shop and Netherworld Editor that will help with temporary boosts. The Curry Shop is a new facility on the base where you can create different types of curries, which will give the squad temporary effects that last about one battle. Most of these recipes will give boosts in stats, but not all are good! Some can have a negative effect and are even poisonous! When your squad isn’t out fighting the good fight, you can deploy some of your recruits to explore the other Netherworlds through the Nether Research Squad. While they’re off researching the Netherworlds, they’ll be unlocking new worlds to visit, finding rare items in other worlds to bring back, and gaining experience for your squad members as they’re off exploring. These new Netherworlds will sometimes have special world effects, such as Icic-Hell’s snowy world that lowers all characters’ fire resistance. But don’t fret — you can override these Netherworld effects with the Netherworld Editor! This new feature allows you to create new Netherworlds for other people to encounter and play, and if one of the worlds is summoned while you’re in a map, the summoned Netherworld effects will override the effects of the current world. That’s Prinny cool, right? “But what about the items?†you ask. With the new Alchemist feature, you can have items created for you while you’re off to battle! Create a brand new item and add Innocents to power up each copy. Don’t have enough innocents for your plentiful supply of items? The Innocent Shop can help with that; this shop acts like a warehouse to hold all your precious Innocents while breeding new ones at the Innocent Farm out back. Sometimes if you leave two Innocents alone together at the Innocent Farm, a third will appear with more rare and powerful effects! Still not enough content for you? Not to worry, NIS America will be releasing 5 batches of DLC which allow you to encounter the characters from Disgaea 3, Disgaea 4 and Disgaea D2 in various Netherworlds, as well as other games like La Pucelle! There will also be a season pass available and if you get all the DLC, you’ll unlock Pleinair as a playable character for free! Be sure to check out the Disgaea website for more details on the game and all the latest updates! And that’s all I have left to report, dood! We’ll see you in the Netherworlds when your mission starts on October 6th, but until then… over and out! View the full article

In our last PlayStation.Blog post we announced that Gauntlet is coming to PS4 August 11th in the new Gauntlet: Slayer Edition. For a number of months now the Gauntlet team has been working tirelessly to mold the game into what we fully envisioned. The key points we have wanted to address are Hero depth, gameplay variation, and overall visuals — and we did this by both adding new features and updating existing ones. Now I’ll let Designer Nils Hansson Bjerke elaborate on the Enemy updates of Gauntlet: Slayer Edition. What’s New? As mentioned previously, we have been working a lot to get more variation in Gauntlet: Slayer Edition. The enemies are obviously a big part of that. In Gauntlet 2014 they just weren’t different enough from each other to make the players change their playstyle in any meaningful way. In Slayer Edition we have gone through the game and re-evaluated every single enemy in the game, leading to changes in all but two. For some we’ve just tweaked movement speeds and hit boxes, while others have received entirely new ability sets. Some enemies have been removed and some completely new ones have been added. We have also given every enemy “family†(mummies, skeletons etc.), a new lower-tier spawner that only spawns the basic units of that “family.†This means we are no longer limited “all or nothing†options when pacing the game. Bosses The makings of a great boss is a project within the project. A good boss battle lets the player apply his skills and abilities to a foe that optimally is unlike anything else in the game. Unfortunately that requires a lot of custom code and content, which is why many games have, from a player perspective, lazy boss battles — like beefed up normal enemies for example. Then we as developers don’t have to deviate too much from the game’s core mechanics that we have spent so much time on getting right. Now, Gauntlet’s core gameplay revolves around hordes of enemies. Anything straying from that formula gets increasingly more problematic to realize within the game’s framework. When making Slayer Edition we made the decision to focus on improving the 95% of play time you are not fighting bosses. We are of course doing some polish and fixes to them. I think veteran Gauntlet players will want to pay good old Morak another visit in Slayer Edition! Character Diversity Gauntlet is, at its core, an arcade game. We don’t have the luxury of rounding out each character class with tons of abilities and options. Arcade games focus on individual skill and the player’s ability to use a limited set of tools and maximize their potential. These limitations are great for creating a “purer,†more immediate gameplay experience, but makes it more tricky to offer the player different play styles. With Gauntlet we are trying to create really diverse play styles without losing the accessibility of an arcade game. Slayer Edition has four distinctly different character classes, from the Elf’s ranged keep-away game to the Warrior’s melee combat. Designing one enemy that can challenge both equally is very difficult. What I try to do as an enemy designer is create monster groups with synergy between them that together will make them challenging for all the classes in their own way. Thus, all enemies in Gauntlet are easy to defeat on their own, but combined they should provide a challenge. This is the type of synergy we have worked hard to improve in Slayer Edition while simultaneously making higher-tier enemies more versatile. The brand new Skeleton Defender is a slow moving melee unit, but if you break its shield it starts running at you with vicious swings. Even the swift little elf might have trouble keeping his distance.Readability Since Gauntlet is about tons of enemies there is always a struggle with readability. With so much going on, enemies can’t be very complex because there is no way a player will be able to understand complexity in the chaos. They need to be interesting and varied, while also basic enough in their functionality that players can, at a glance, understand what they do and how they behave. So let’s look at the Grunt Shaman’s previous abilities. Firstly, he summoned walls from the ground. Secondly he summoned a homing, indestructible goat head. Thirdly he buffed Grunt spawners to increase the rate at which they spawned grunts as well as increased the movement speed of said grunts. Now, of course the player doesn’t have to understand all the little details about an enemy but the more you understand the more fair the game feels and the more you as a player feel in control of whether you live or die. The Grunt Shaman’s old spawner buff was the opposite of that. The impact it had on a battle was quite high but nothing about its visuals signaled that. The goat heads didn’t offer as much interesting counter play and the walls occupied a lot of real estate on the screen considering their small impact. Enter the new Grunt Shaman. He shoots a big energy ball that splits into two energy balls. He also buffs Grunt spawners so that the Grunts hit harder. BAM! Easy to read, easy to understand. Also, the animators are happy to let you know that the Grunt Shaman now has proper animations. We hope you have enjoyed our dive into some of the design work that goes into Gauntlet: Slayer Edition. Now get ready to re-Invade the Darkness — it’s almost time! View the full article

Hi PS Blog readers! Sébastien here. We’re excited about the nearing release date of our new RPG The Technomancer, coming to PlayStation 4. What with Gamescom happening right now, we thought it would be a cool time to shoot you an action packed trailer depicting the harsh realities of life on the red planet. Remember, Mars wasn’t colonized yesterday – we start our game after two hundred years of history has already happened on the Martian landscape, and as we know all too well from our own planet, the longer we’re around the more complicated things get! Enjoy our new trailer, and don’t forget that Mars’ world holds many secrets, and The Technomancer’s quests yield many results depending on how you choose to solve them. Learn more about the world by interacting with the companions who join your party, build friendships with them and watch them level up as you progress through the game. The Technomancer features three exciting combat styles and many ways to improve both melee combat and your Technomancer lightning abilities, both acting in synergy with each other. Hi gang – checking in from R&R to share a quick update from the folks at Treyarch regarding their esports plans for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. Don’t forget: the beta kicks off on PS4 in just a couple of weeks – August 19th. Hello PlayStation Nation, We’re excited to have the opportunity to be at Gamescom this year, showing off multiplayer at the Sony booth. Fans fill the halls of Gamescom like no other show in the world and it’s great to put our game in peoples’ hands like this. Hopefully, you were able to tune into the live stream that we just completed with ESL where we shared more about our competitive agenda. This is something that we’ve been really passionate about, even prior to Black Ops 2. The eSports scene is one that pushes performance to the limits and only by pushing to those limits have we been able to find what works and what doesn’t. Most importantly, we’ve been able to discern what sorts of features will enhance the experience for everyone. Here are a few of the features that you can count on for Black Ops 3: Arena: Next-level League Play, offering ranked, competitive play Bans & Protects: Creates a meta-game around selection of content Specialist Draft: A pre-match selection process CODcaster Mode: Updated features include the new Quick Settings and player loadout widget, and return of fan favorites, X-Ray mode, Listen-In, and Full-Screen view Game Modes: Uplink is in, along with perennial favorites like S&D, CTF and Hardpoint make their return The only thing better than sharing our competitive feature set with you at Gamescom will be putting it in your hands on November 6. In the meantime, feel free to follow @Treyarch for the latest studio news. We look forward to seeing you online. Regards, Treyarch View the full article

Greetings! Anyone heard of Gravity? Interstellar? Jupiter Ascending? Pluto’s surface? While everyone seems to be on space frenzy nowadays, it sounds just fit to talk about space shmups too! No, not another 2D retro look-a-like. Something more respectful of what this great genre deserves. A truly 3D space shmup that pushes it both on challenge and visual treat aspects: this is Hyper Void! Hyper Void is a game made after growing up with awesome games like Gradius, Tempest, and Wing Commander. Those were the days just before the 21st century came in, ironically bringing with it a decline in new space shmup games. That just doesn’t sound right! So what does it mean to bring a space shmup called Hyper Void in 2015? A few things, actually: 1.) Taking the challenge to new dimensions (literally). This time the fight is not just in outer-space. It is right inside cross-dimensional wormholes that twist and turn into the most obscure configurations! 2.) Bosses, and lots of them! Over half of the game’s 29 levels have boss fights! 3.) Even bigger boss fights! 3 mega encounters you will remember for quite a while. As a little heads-up: Hyper Void is not about going blind shooting stuff. You fly the RM-24, a combat/defense spacecraft on a mission to investigate what seems to suddenly drive the entire universe into attacking your race. In addition to battling hordes of enemies from a wide variety of sources, you will run into intricate maneuverability challenges, mazes, as well as light-speed races through enemy defenses. (Battletoads speed bike, anyone?) A word of warning: this game is challenging. It’s not only about your reflexes — your mind must quickly analyze and build strategies for each new enemy and drive those finger muscles of yours in time to survive. And for the godly-skilled among you, try your luck in Hyper Mode, where you fly a slicker fighter that you will surely need for the additional challenge awaiting you. To bring up its highly-acclaimed gorgeous 3D graphics to life, Hyper Void relies heavily on your PS4 and its strong processing capabilities. Almost everything is procedural. Meaning what you see is all made of math formulas and numbers crunched on the spot to deliver Hyper Void’s dynamic, brilliant environments at 180 frames per second. Actually, it is capped to 60 FPS on your TV, but it also means when you get Project Morpheus support, you will experience a silky-smooth Hyper Void VR experience! Hyper Void will be available on your PS4 this September 8th exclusively on PlayStation Store! And it will offer the Project Morpheus-enabled update right as the device hits the markets! Hey there, PlayStation! Greta Salmon here from LOOT Interactive with some very exciting news! Back to Bed, the challenging and whimsical surrealist puzzle game from Danish developer Bedtime Digital Games, is coming exclusively to PS4, PS3, and PS Vita! To celebrate this momentous occasion, we wanted to show some love to PlayStation Plus members with a discount at launch for a limited time. Go ahead and pinch yourself, unlike Bob, sleepwalker, you are not dreaming. So you may be asking yourself, what is the quirky, gravity-defying, mind-bending puzzle game starring a narcoleptic sleepwalker and a green man-faced dog all about? In Back to Bed, you take on the role of Subob — the dog-like manifestation of sleepwalker Bob’s subconscious — who must guide him through increasingly challenging dream-like puzzle levels with the goal of ushering the sound asleep Bob back to bed. Inspired by surrealist masters, M.C. Escher, Salvador Dali, and René Magritte, it is a filling feast for your eyes and gaming appetite. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. Back to Bed is so much more than just a unique, fun, and challenging game — it is the product of hard work, determination, and out-of-this-world imagination. Jonas and Klaus from Bedtime Digital Games can attest, creating Back to Bed has been quite a journey from its humble beginnings starting as a college student project to a visually-stunning PlayStation exclusive! At The Danish Academy for Digital Interactive Entertainment, Bedtime Digital Games presented an idea, one that was outside of the box and blurred the lines between the real and unreal. Jonas and Klaus were determined to blend the old world style of surrealistic art with the current generation gaming technologies to produce a visual masterpiece with hours of engaging gameplay. After settling on the idea of sleepwalking, they began diligently researching and learning as much as they possibly could about dreams and how people perceive them. With nothing more than a small student group and an idea, the group pressed onward exploring different game mechanics, implementing the Unity Game engine, and experimenting with an art style seldom seen in current generation video games. The result was nothing short of brilliant, awe inspiring, and unique. Back to Bed will be available on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita very soon and we can’t wait to hear what you think of Bob, the sleepwalker, Subob, the subconscious man-faced dog, as they embark on their greatest adventure. Hi PS Blog readers! Kirill here to bring you a load of info about Divinity Original Sin: Enhanced Edition with this new Overview trailer — right on time for Gamescom 2015! With Divinity Original Sin: Enhanced Edition on consoles we bring couch-coop to RPGs with split-screen! You will have the choice to explore a deceitfully vibrant world on your own or with a friend, either together or independently. When venturing together, you’ll share the same screen-space (with console-comfortable controls and UI). Work together and Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition will offer you dynamic, turn-based combat with a range of elemental spells and abilities intertwined with environmental hazards to be exploited against enemies — or yourselves! Shock, burn, smash, and poison your way through a huge, vibrant world as you weave your way through an epic story, playing your own way, and at your own pace. To suit different playstyles, players will be able to pick a difficulty setting to match their needs. Explorer mode will offer an adventure with a sprinkle of challenge for Source Hunters keen to explore Rivellon, whereas Tactician Mode will throw tweaked, hand-crafted battle-situations at players, designed to crush even the most experienced Divinity veterans. Get ready to explore the world of Rivellon, alone or with a friend, soon on PlayStation 4! View the full article

Hey there, galactic friends! Let’s talk Capsule Force aesthetics and the decisions behind them. Capsule Force is a 90’s arcade game set in an 80’s space anime world, but why did we go with this style? When we started working on Capsule Force, we tried to make a fun, competitive multiplayer game by creating prototypes with a rapid iteration cycle. We quickly put together a game we enjoyed, but the art needed… some work. Early versions of Capsule Force consisted of white blocks on a black backdrop. We needed to find an aesthetic to match the frenetic gameplay! 90’s Arcade GraphicsThe 90’s arcade style was an easy choice. While developing the game, we were playing retro arcade games like Twinkle Star Sprites, Windjammers, Mr. Driller G, Azumanga Daioh Puzzle Bobble, and Money Idol Exchanger. Similar to these games, Capsule Force has high energy gameplay with simple controls that allow for mastery. The flashy in-your-face graphics are a good fit for the energy of Capsule Force, and their simplicity complements the straightforward control. Retro arcade games have many specific details that make them iconic. We compiled a list and prioritized putting as many of those details and effects in Capsule Force as was humanly possible. Large explosions, flashy menus, bright italic gradient fonts, arcade style how-to-play screens, and character victory quotes all contribute to the visual movement and pop. Using everything at once can get incredibly busy and hard to parse, so we focused on simple character sprites and colorful worlds with contrasting foregrounds/backgrounds to create a clear, visual language. It’s a tricky balance! 80’s Space Anime Art StyleFrom the start, we wanted Capsule Force to have a visceral feel and designed the characters to feel extremely powerful and nimble! They can jump, double jump, hover in the air, and fire giant lasers out of their arms. Already fans of 80’s anime, we knew it was a natural fit. The colorful environments and SD character proportions tie together nicely with the retro-arcade graphics. Some might call it a hobby… we called it research. Combing through hours of Dirty Pair, Macross, Galaxy Express 999, Bubblegum Crisis, and more, we pulled a lot of inspiration from the indoor tech environments and the outdoor frontier landscapes. We tried to fill the game with 80’s anime visual fx like crescent moon explosions and speed lines. The stuff that makes the best anime so visually memorable. Pixel by pixel, we recreated our favourite parts and inserted them into Capsule Force! We hope the aesthetics will enhance the game’s intensity as you battle your friends 1v1 or 2v2! Capsule Force will be launching on PS4 come August 25th. View the full article

Suit up! You can finally climb aboard the GALAK-Z as it launches today! If we’ve been lucky enough to have you following us, you already know that GALAK-Z is an homage to our anime dreams. Piloting your prototypical craft is equally fun to fly as it is to transform into a mech and slash your way through an onslaught of wiley enemies. Procedural missions and music, extensive combinations of upgrades and passives, intelligent warring factions surrounded by a living and hostile environment all come together into a rogue-lite wrapped in the construct of a Saturday morning cartoon. And bringing all of this to life takes the help and talent of many different folks. We’d like to pay homage to them in this launch day blog post. AI Stands for Awesomely Intelligent Cyntient has been the enabler to our fantasy of AI enemies that are truly intelligent and collectively aware. Collaborating from the beginning to handcraft the AI to our specs, Cyntient has helped to set the stage for enemy encounters that feel like you’re rastling with an organized group of human hooligans. Constantly on patrol, barking out what they’re seeing and coordinating with one another to keep you running for cover, each unit within each faction brings its own personality and set of strengths. Scntfc Beat DownScntfc surfs the wave between the rhythmic eeriness of John Carpenter and a spacedust-infused nostalgic synth vibe. Setting the soundscape for intense dogfighting in the endless vastness of space, Scntfc defines the mood and aesthetic of each location, episode, and boss fight. Adding to the variety and the complexity of creating this soundtrack is the procedural music system that mixes multiple layers of different tracks to constantly match the shifting mood and action of each encounter. You Don’t Have to Yell No Saturday morning cartoon is complete without colorful voices from the actors who serve as your chaperones through the backstory and the moment to moment fight to save Earth. Our daring and quick-witted pilot is A-Tak, voiced by Michael Sinterniklaas — who might ring a bell as Dean Venture from The Venture Brothers, or from The Vanishing of Ethan Carter… or from the gaggle of other games or film and TV work he’s done. His calm and seasoned counterpart on the research vessel U.S.S. Axelios is Beam, voiced by Sarah Elmaleh — who starred in Skulls of the Shogun, Gone Home and more. And rounding out the crew of the Axelios is Chet Williamson as the deranged but daring Admiral Akamoto. Chet lent his unique and powerful voice to Skulls of the Shogun as well as other titles. Made in JapanOur in-house artists have set an amazing visual tone, but couldn’t pass up the opportunity to invite inspiration from famed Japanese artist Katsuya Terada. We seized the opportunity to work with one of our favorite artists to give life to Season 3’s boss as well as to keep things fresh as you progress through GALAK-Z. Terada-san’s previous work can be seen in multiple The Legend of Zeldas, Prince of Persia, multiple Tekkens, and many more as well in other mediums. This collaboration was yet another tip of the hat to the fact that the last year of production on GALAK-Z was split between the Seattle and Kyoto branches of 17-BIT. Hall PassThere’s so much more that goes into making a game happen than all the content. For the past two years, we’ve had the tireless support of all kinds of great folks at Sony from around the globe. Everything from believing in the game to helping get the word out to making an A-Tak costume to allowing us to release and ramble in the public eye as we are right now. Such great people, genuine support and camaraderie. We couldn’t have done it without you and your enthusiasm for indie gaming. Bringing It HomeMany thanks to our friends and family. For your playtesting and feedback and for putting up with our devotion to making something that we truly care about. And to our new friends and family, we invite you to check out GALAK-Z. It is our modern love letter to old school anime and gaming. Keep up with us at GALAK-Z.com, on Twitter @_17-BIT, and on Facebook. View the full article

Trans-Galactic Tournament (TGT) is launching its Open Beta in the Americas today, but before you head to PlayStation Store to start breaking skulls and causing mayhem, we gotta share some of the surprises you’ll find in Trans-Galactic Tournament on PS4. We’re out to change your idea of what a battle arena game can be, so mow down your jungle and pave your lanes — here’s the top 7 weird things that make TGT the fastest, wildest battle arena game in the universe. 1. Yeah, League’s Cool, but it Needs More DeathmatchSo you’ve just bought TGT for no money (Because it’s free!), and you jump right into a match. Now you’re in some place called Globaber Factory, everybody’s running on these robot-making platforms, and there’s angry gumdrops in the background and nothing makes sense ever. Welcome to Trans-Galactic Tournament! Once your brain adjusts to the madness, you’ll notice how fast the combat really is. That’s because our game modes are way more FPS than MOBA. Plunderball is Capture the Flag, Conquest is like King of the Hill but everywhere, and Annihilation is straight up Deathmatch. Look, you can take the developer out of the 90’s LAN Party, but you can’t take the 90’s LAN Party out of the developer. 2. Why Not Push Dudes Off Cliffs?Lots of games focus on “last hits,†but we think a good first hit should be rewarded too. That’s why our maps have full-on instant death pits and champs that are tailor-made to push unsuspecting dupes to their doom. Be the Scar of the arena — push somebody off a cliff today! 3. At Least One Character Should Look Like George Washington If you can cross the Delaware and the line of good taste in one character design, you should always go for it. 4. Need a Ladder? Jump On Your Friends and Enemies!Early in the game, you’re probably thinking, So when I hit the X button, I jump? Why can I jump? Because jumping is awesome! In TGT, you can reach high ledges and shortcuts with well-placed jumps off the heads of your friends and enemies. This is the most important game design achievement of 2015. 5. That One Level With the Pirate ShipsWe thought it’d be a real lark if there was a level where you’re under a constant barrage of cannon fire during a pirate raid on an island military fort. Guess what — it is! And yes, they do have pirate ships in space. 6. Oozello, Meet Jake, Our Lead ProgrammerTeam: Hey, Jake. What if one of the champions was a short-order cook? Jake: Sure. Team: And he throws sandwiches on the ground. Jake: Got it. Team: Then he eats the sandwiches off the ground and it heals him. Jake: Ok. Team: And he’s made of snot. Jake: Please stop. 7. Badger Sauce! Badger Sauce! Badger Sauce!TGT has a lot of intergalactic sponsors, but none contain more processed badgers than Badger Sauce. One day we found this video on our development server. We don’t know where it came from, and we’re a little scared. We’d love to hear about the surprises you find when you play TGT. Download the open beta for free from PlayStation Store, and post about it below in the comments. We’re excited to answer any questions you have. Don’t forget to hit www.playtgt.com for the latest TGT info. See you in the arena! View the full article

Hello, PlayStation.Blog! I’m Alex, from Hello Games. Hope you’re well! How’s your summer going? Ours? We’re kinda recovered from E3, where Sean showed off live No Man’s Sky gameplay for the first time. It has been a big relief that people seemed to like it. You can’t know just how scary it is to show a game as open-ended as No Man’s Sky live on a stage for an audience of millions. Since then, we’ve also been super proud that IGN has devoted July’s IGN First to No Man’s Sky. We hope you’ve had a chance to see some of the amazing articles that they’ve published, maybe including this 18-minute video of Sean exploring a planet. We’ve been thinking, though, that No Man’s Sky is pretty good at hiding its secrets, and that there there are some facts about the game that might not be so obvious — facts that help it all make sense, and come alive. So we’ve put together a list of 41 things about the game that you might not realize. We hope you enjoy them, and thanks so much for all your support. It’s been so amazing to share with you what we’ve been doing over the past few months. Things about space The universe isn’t actually infiniteComputers don’t really do infinity very well. But there are 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 planets in the universe. If you visit each one for a single second, it will take you 585 billion years to see them all, so it may as well be. The universe isn’t randomEverything exists for a reason, and is governed by maths. Maths means every detail is always consistent and makes sense, the result of hundreds of rules we’ve made to make a sci-fi universe we want to explore. And anyway, computers just aren’t very good at random, either. The universe isn’t stored on your hard disk or on server somewhereThe world around you is generated by your PS4 at the point you visit it. Leave and it’s all thrown away, but if you return it is generated again exactly as it was. This also means the game will be completely playable offline. No Man’s Sky isn’t an MMOThe sheer size of the universe means that everyone is going to be super far apart, and it’s super unlikely that people will even visit the same planets. There are bots exploring the universe right nowWe have sent a set of bots out into the void to send back to us gifs of planets. We can quickly review the gifs, lots at a time, to see what kinds of things are out there, and ensure it’s varied and interesting. Things about exploring There isn’t a story to followThere are no cutscenes or characters, but there is a big objective: getting to the center of the universe. We don’t want to tell you a story, we want you to tell your own. No Man’s Sky is about your journey. You will make true discoveriesBe the first to visit a planet, or be the first to scan a species of creature, and you will be recorded as its discoverer when you upload it at a beacon for all the world to see. You can also choose to name them. (There will be filters!) The Atlas is everything everyone has ever discoveredThe No Man’s Sky symbol stands for the database of all the things that players have discovered and chosen to share with the world. It’s perhaps the most important thing in the universe, and will contain findings that even we have no idea about. You’ll find ancient artifacts and crashed shipsThey may lead to you discovering new technologies, which can give your ship, suit, and multitool new or improved abilities.A jetpack is an explorer’s best friendIt can get you out of all sorts of trouble, and take you to places you wouldn’t otherwise be able to access. Things about planets Planets are defined by their position in spaceIf they’re close to their sun they’ll tend to be more barren; further away and they’ll tend to be cold. The planets in between tend to be richer with life. Most planets are barrenFew planets will be dense with plant life and animals. Most will be barren, but even barren planets can be sources of great wealth. Planets can be toxicSome planets are death traps, with radiation or other hazards that will kill you in minutes. To survive you’ll need to upgrade your suit.Every distant mountain is a real placeNo Man’s Sky doesn’t only generate the environment immediately around you. It also generates the whole planet at a lower level of detail, so every distant object on the horizon is a real place that you can go to.Planets have days and nightsFly down to the night side of a planet, and you’ll find the land in darkness. Different creatures will be awake while daytime creatures sleep. Things about ships It’s worth upgrading your shipShips offer varying capacity for being upgraded, whether speed, maneuverability, jump drive range, or weapon power. You can only have one ship at a timeChoose a ship that suits what you want to do, whether trading (large cargo capacity), fighting (good speed and weapons) or exploring (a long jump drive distance). Want to do something new? You can always get a new one. You’ll shop for new shipsSpace stations sell a rolling stock of ships. If you see one you want, you’ll need to grab it before new stock comes in. You won’t be left without a shipIf you die and have no money, a basic ship is always available for free. It won’t have a hyperdrive, but you’ll be able to fly to planets again to rebuild. You need fuelYou can fly for as long as you like in a star system, but to make jumps between systems you’ll need hyperdrive fuel, which you can buy from space stations or mine from planet surfaces. Things about combat You can get a wanted levelUpsetting the balance of planets by mining them too heavily or killing creatures will see you being hunted down by the Sentinels, and attacking craft in space will attract the attention of the police. The more you do, the stronger they will retaliate. The Sentinels aren’t everywhereNot every planet is policed, making these lawless playgrounds valuable sources of resources.Space is not quietFactions constantly vie for territory across the entire universe. Choose to help one faction and it may reward you. Attack another and it’ll remember. But you can also try to avoid conflict completely. You can side with factionsIf you’re friendly enough with a faction, it can provide you with support that might protect you as you face its rivals.Your multitool is an adaptable weaponMultitools have a basic firing mode, but some come with different, more powerful attacks, or you might find technologies to upgrade them.Death isn’t the endBut it’s a problem. If you die on a planet, you’ll find yourself revived back at your ship having lost what you hadn’t stowed and discoveries you hadn’t uploaded. If you die in space, you find yourself revived at the nearest space station, without your ship, items and discoveries. Things about creatures Planets are populated by unique creaturesCreatures are procedurally generated, with wildly varying shapes, sizes, colorations, and behaviours. You will discover countless new species on your journey.Animal calls are procedurally generatedWe’ve created special software that models throats, allowing animal calls to be defined by the shape and sizes of their bodies. Every planet’s soundscape is unique.Animals may attack youBut think twice about retaliating. If Sentinels see you kill a creature they’ll attack you. It’s often best to try to scare creatures or run away, and preserve the natural balance of the planet. Animals follow daily routinesThey will go down to bodies of water to drink and sleep at night, while others will only come out at dark. Some animals hunt othersYou’ll see food chains in action, with species being predated by others. You might find that you’re far from being at the top of the chain. Things about the economy Units are the universe’s currencyYou’ll earn Units for many things: selling resources at trading posts, shooting down pirates, uploading discoveries to the Atlas.Market prices for resources varyYou might find lucrative trade routes, mining in one system and selling in another. It might be worth investing in a ship with lots of cargo space to take full advantage.Space is busy with trade convoysFreighters, led by capital ships, steadily travel along trade routes, sending ships down to trading posts as they go. You can choose to attack them and steal their resources, but you’ll find them heavily defended, and pirates might have the same idea… Resources aren’t just for tradingYou’ll need them to craft technologies into upgrades. The rarest resources can only be found in certain types of system.Efficient mining requires certain upgradesYour multitool can always destroy resource crystals, but you’ll need to upgrade it to mine resources held in harder rock. Perhaps there are technologies that will provide greater yields… Things about the game It has amazing music65daysofstatic are Sean’s favorite band, and they’re making No Man’s Sky’s soundtrack album. We are incredibly excited about this.We held a concert at PlayStation Experience65daysofstatic came to Las Vegas with us and played a concert. It was incredible. Watch it here. The music will be procedural65daysofstatic’s soundtrack will be used to generate procedural music that’s influenced by where you are and what you’re doing. Full songs will play at specific points, but we’ll leave it to you to discover when and why…No Man’s Sky was inspired by classic sci-fiEspecially those amazing, vibrant book covers, which presented a vision of a future that wasn’t grim and in which technology and exploration were points of hope.Four people built what we showed for the announcementSince then, the No Man’s Sky team has grown, but only a little, to 13 people. We like it real small. View the full article

Hey everyone! Street Fighter V is about to get a lot more “beautiful†with the latest character reveal of the Spanish Ninja himself: Vega! Street Fighter V | PlayStation.com A mainstay in the franchise since his introduction in Street Fighter II, Vega believes that beauty is the truest form of strength and that he alone is the epitome of perfection. The mask he wears serves to protect his face from the blood of his victims, and his deadly three-pronged claw ensures he is able to dish out pain from a safe distance away. Learning ninjutsu at a young age from a Japanese acquaintance, Vega quickly shot up the ranks in Shadaloo, eventually becoming one of the four bosses of the criminal organization. Left: Vega art from Super Street Fighter II Right: Vega in Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Vega returns to Street Fighter V with a brand new look and new tricks up his frilly sleeves. Possessing his trademark speed and quickness, Vega now has access to two distinct fighting modes: with claw and without claw. That’s right, he now has the ability to sheathe his claw during battle in exchange for new moves, such as a command grab, as well as new attack properties, greatly changing the way he approaches each fight. Knowing when to toggle between the two styles will be the key to success, and it also allows for new combo possibilities. Conversely, Vega will no longer be able to pick up his claw once it’s knocked off, so knowing how to fight without the claw is a must! Players who enjoy tricky movement and the technical challenge of switching between claw/no-claw fighting styles will definitely find the beauty in Vega’s play style. V-Skill: Matador Turn Vega swiftly dodges the opponent’s incoming attack and chooses whether to launch a quick counterattack that knocks them down or not.V-Trigger: Bloody Kiss Vega throws a rose at high velocity towards the opponent. If it hits, he charges behind it and delivers a series of brutal slashes that devastate the enemy. The move can be done as an anti-air from crouch or as an air attack when jumping forward, making it an extremely versatile projectile attack, as well as a combo extender. Fans attending Gamescom this week will be able to experience the character first hand on the show floor at the Sony booth, so be sure to stop by! I’ll certainly be looking forward to seeing what players come up with once they get their hands on the character. Till next time! View the full article

The apocalypse has arrived. After two and a half years, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is out in just about a week, and to celebrate, we want to share the launch trailer for the game with you. We recently announced the cast list for the game — an amazing group of some of the best TV, film, and radio actors working in games in the UK. We’re delighted that the list is headed up by the fantastic Merle Dandridge, best known for her role as Alyx Vance in Half Life 2 and Marlene in The Last of Us. You might recognise her from the trailer, where she plays Dr. Katherine Collins, the brilliant astrophysicist at the heart of Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture’s mystery. If the trailer isn’t enough, and you can’t wait a week to get more of the game, then head over to the official site. For the last few weeks, we’ve been uploading exclusive content over there — radio interviews with Kate and her research assistant and husband, Dr. Stephen Appleton; excerpts from journals and textbooks; emergency leaflets to help orientate you to the apocalypse. There’s interviews with the team, more information about the production, and a series of secret codes to unravel — all of which will help you understand the mystery of Yaughton Valley just that little bit more. Finally, we know that lots of you outside the US have been checking out the awesome dynamic theme that’s been available on the US store. We’re happy to let you know that PS+ customers across the world will also be able to grab this when they purchase the game. We’re hugely excited about the game coming out — really hope you all love playing it as much as we’ve enjoyed making it. It’s been an incredible couple of years and we’re very proud of the result. Keep on checking the game’s website and expect a couple more very cool exclusive features to hit between now and the end of the world. And remember — an emergency may occur at any time, without any warning, so be prepared. Keep your radios and televisions on at all times! View the full article
