80gb PS3

So i heard things that they would be discontinuing it. I wasn't sure though, Is it true....I can't find one around my area. Help, i finally got my tax return back, and now i can't find one. ahhhh :'(

OK, i just talked to walmart, they have a 60gb left, Does anyone know if that is backwords compatible?

I believe the 60 is, but if I'm not mistaken you may purchase the 40 gb and then download something that will allow you to play PS2 games. This was told to and not read somewhere so it may not hold much water.

The 20, 60 and 80 are backwards compatible. The rumor is the 80 is still going to be there but they are changing the SKU and offering something other then Motostorm. Who knows.

You dont want to rely on downloading stuff to make it backwards compatible.

I haven't been able to play my PS2 games but kept them knowing that I would eventually figure this out.

The 40GB is the only model that clearly says that it is not backward compatible. If I remember correctly the 20 and 60 have the chip and the 80 has software emulation that makes it compatible where as the 40 took out all options of making it backward compatible. Why you couldn't have the software emulation on the 40GB is beyond me.

60 gb's are hard to find, I haven't seen 20 gb's around, so 80 gb is the only easy to find backward compatible system around.

60's were discontinued, 20's were discontinued, which would result in both of them being hard to find both at release were backwards compatible, and that hasnt changed.

 

The 40 is NOT backwards compatible to reduce costs, they removed the "emotion engine" (the processing brain of the PS2.)

 

The 80 is backwards compatible.

 

I have heard rumors, and have read a few articles where sony is considering discontinuing the 80 gig for one with a larger hard drive, possibly 120 to compete with Microsofts 360 Elite package. That rumor also included that it may actually be cheaper than what the 80 gig is currently selling for. Again, sony denied it, but... we've seen many rumors be true in the past by sony. (aka price drop for ps3's which they denied for a while)

i have a 60 gig upgraded to a 120gig.....all you have to do is GHOST the harddrive...lol

You can buy external harddrives to use with the PS3. I got a buddy that went out and bought a 500gig external and plugged it in and it picked right up on it.

Yea its not so much the extra space as it will be the most up to date version.
