Hey guys, im in the market for a little pickup. I was wondering what type of pickup would be good to get. Im only looking to spend $5500. What type of pickup would you recommend?

IMO anything ford or Chevrolet. best trucks i've seen,so good that i see a lot of 30-40 years old pickups on the road.

i would have to agree with you. the one im looking at right now is a s-10 chevy with the votex engine. It is a v-6. very clean, its a 2000. It has 140,000 miles. Thats the only thing im questioning.

What are you going to be using it for?

 

I think thats the most important question. Do you want something just to get you from point a-b with better gas milage, do you need something to haul or pull with, do you want to smoke the punk in the civic at the red light, do you live where it snows, etc.

 

I say a late 70's Ford, Chevy or Dodge if it was me (buy a classic that you can fix up- so any money you dump into it will actually increase its value vs buying a 90's truck that is hard to work on, sucks up your money and it ends up being worthless)... But thats if gas was no issue. Also, if your a man you should be driving a V8 (car or trucK). The ONLY exception to this rule is the Grand national and/ or Typhoon. To those that know wtf I am talking about- Can I get an Amen>!?

Cp, Sid has the right idea. You just have to decide on what your usage is and what works for you. The only thing Sid missed, is if you get a Chevy from Mid 80's to Mid 90's, it'll prolly need paint, and work on the tailgate sooner or later. ;D

 

Older Fords are also a good buy. Sometimes repairs are like domino's, but overall you can't go wrong.

You guys are all right, so far. I had a '69 Chevy 4x4 that was the toughest truck Ive ever had. The '04 king Ranch I have now is a Piece of shit, lol.

However, if you don't need a big truck, early '80's Datsun's are indestructible.

Naw what you want to gett is a 99-06 dodge dakoda "those are the years with the round front end which looks the best." Now you can get the 3.8 v6 and have good gas milage or go with the 4.3 v8 and have power to spear. Mopar have alwas made the most powerful engines so if your going to tow or load things in the bed of your truck pick a dodge. I know i've had a 03 3.8 and now i got an 05 4.3 and i wont ever get any thats not mopar.

its dakota, and yes they are nice trucks. i have a '03. with a V8. it pulls our 12ft trailer with ease.

I'm telling you, early '80's Datsun. You'll get one for under a grand and it will last forever. My dad still drives one that I replaced the water pump in and never put the cooling fan back in place and it's still runnin, just fine.

datsun was bought out by Nissan, I believe...the 300zx was originally a Datsun design. At least, I remember having a matchbox car of the 300z by datsun. I don't know shit about cars that aren't Jeeps or VW's

yea but like where was datsun originally from, if i go to like ecuador or colombia(where im from) i see many datsun and dihatsun and a bunch of other weird ones.

As a company, no. Like someone said, they were bought by Nissan. Nissan kept a couple of the datsun models alive, but mostly scrapped the company.
