THANK GOD for the Dems and their thinking of the taxpayers and wanting to make sure the fat cats who caused all of this don't retire rich as hell

This reads as though you're saying there are no Democrat "FAT CATS". That Republicans are solely to blame.

LOL! That's so funny. Guilty conscience?

You are reading more into that sentence than what is there. It means EXACTLY what it says ... THANK GOD the Dems are pushing to add legislation to the bail out that will keep the CEO's of the companies who are failing from retiring rich as hell. If the Republicans were pushing for this, it would have said, "THANK GOD the Repubs ... ." Now, how you got what you did from that is beyond me.

I think something needs to be done, but I think that we can't just blindly run into handing over trilliions of dollars without some kind of thought put into it to protect the taxpayers and somehow (no matter how insignificant it may seem), keep the greedy people who managed their companies (and the world, in reality) into this crap from walking (or private jetting) away to some private island to spend the rest of their life in luxury while the rest of America suffers.

No guilty conscience here. I just read to much into it. It started with poitics so I was reading it with politics in mind and automatically thought you were referring to the republicans.

I agree with you. There need's to be protection in place to guard the US Citizens against the greedy business owners (and their greedy congressional board members). To bad something like this doesn't bring both sides to the table in full 100% support huh? Of course when it means digging into their pockets, then that's out of the question.

Here is the thing. We have made the American Market a VERY global market over the past 20 years.

The question is when (and I do say "when" because it will happen) we bail out the largest hit institutions- A VERY LARGE amount of that money will go to NON American companies. The potentail light at the end of the tunnel would be that in 3-7 years the "debt" purchased COULD turn into substantial "gains and profit".

The problem is these bail outs do nothing for immediate job growth, average consumer spending, gas prices and/ or cost of living AND IT WILL INCREASE TAXES.

So is the economy BAD- No but it is not good. Bad will be when taxes increase, the bad debt purchase falls through, gas prices hike and un employment increases to even higher levels. In the end it is relative to most folks- Some companies prosper when times are bad and some people do the same. However if the over all cost of living increases across America and we increase Taxes it WILL affect even those folks who know what they are doing.

There are many ways and opinions to "fix" the problem. But the underlying fact is we rely on over seas oil ,We export jobs and import product from other countries, I believe America will soon find out the global market is the most powerful market- But it is not a capitalist market.

We have made BIG Government necessary- Because we are global and the government has impowered it self to be the only entity to control regulation. When in my opinion the capitalist market should have been controlled by the states (to which they would be held accountable for violation and pit falls) with a standard government oversight/ rules.

So in the end my opinion would be:

Oil- Start off shore drilling now. Drill the shit out of Alaska- We dont discuss this because its "tabu". But we could end the import of foreign oil not just reduce it... Hell we could even export some to our friends in Japan.

Turn off Nafta and re-evaluate trade agreements, increase tax penalties to countries importing goods- This will be tuff since so much of our economy is based on foreign money now, but it will increase jobs here and bring back American companies. Its still not too late- Shit who knows if the Gov can flip the debt they purchase into gains we could do this in a 6 year plan.

War- War can be good for the economy. We should be seeking debt retributions for actions we are taking though. If a country supports terrorism and it costs us 125 billion to deal with it, then we collect that 125 billion from them through resources, taxes, tariffs or penalties.

Get rid of over spends and Big Gov- Put the power back in the peoples hands through the states.

Lastly guys the "great depression" was a GLOBAL GREAT DEPRESSION, it started here in the United States and affected the entire globe... WWII ended the problem. So if we do hit a depression... Ya may want to go buy that ammo, water and canned goods.

I posted a thread a while back regarding many American companies being bankrolled by foreign companies and how these foreign companies we're being bankrolled by groups that support our terrorist enemies.

Wonder, if the trail was to be followed far enough, how many of the companies the United States has and will bail out, are linked somehow to terrorists groups that are out to destroy us?

It would be a "behind the scenes" attack right? Terrorists attack us (cause us to do it to ourselves) financially, the US Govt steps in to bail out American companies with US Tax Dollars, and many of those companies are two, three, four times removed from a terrorist group but the money finds its way back to the terrorists groups all the same. We funded the people that are trying to kill us.

If I see this show up as a movie I'll be expecting royalties. ;)

I figured it out- Make low level drugs legal for 8 years. Tax the shitout of em.

You can save 20 billion dollars in jail, legal and court costs. Not to mention the boom in small business and jobs created. :D Although since we are in the bread basket we should def not import- Our new national growth product baby!

i once thought if they made certain drugs legal like marijuana or cocaine and tax the crap out of it, the gov would get tons of money.

on a serious note though, who in the WORLD would take out and adjustable rate mortgage for 30 F'N YEARS???? what did these people expect to happen?

Well, there are many reasons why someone would choose an ARM over a fixed rate. Most people who get ARMs don't plan on keeping that loan for the life of the loan. And with the rate fixed for the first 2, 3, or even 5 years, they are a great idea if you aren't going to be in that home for any longer than that.

I think the problem lies in the fact that people were sold loans that they didn't understand. There are alot of people out there who bought their first home, people who wanted a piece of the American Dream, who never thought they could have it, They trusted a loan officer to lead them in the right direction and ultimately left their fate in the hands of sharks. Sad thing.

Greed always screws somebody!

My wife and I got into an ARM for our first home, but quickly got set with a fixed rate. You can't blame it fully on the lending institution. People should be smart enough to think before they got over their head. Unfortunately many did not, and here we are.

Posted

At the time we got the ARM the market was futured to go down another 1-1.5%. I projected at least another .5 to 1% drop then we would get a fixed rate. We came out exactly where I planned. We are currently sitting on a house loan at 4.5%. So I think we came out alright. ;)

Some blame goes to the "FLIP THAT HOUSE" syndrome. Many people saw an opportunity, based on what they read and heard being reported by "EXPERTS", that would allow them to buy at this price with a great loan and then sell the house quickly for a huge profit. That plan didn't work out very well for many people.

I remember seeing on the news a few years ago where people had bought into a new construction gated community for one price and before the houses were finished they were $125,000 - $150,000 upside down in the deal. They tried to sue over it. It was sad and funny at the same time.

I even remember seeing 8 different people standing in the median, of a major road, one Saturday outside a gated community with big signs, balloons, streamers, etc trying to get people to come look at their house. One guy had a sign that said "FREE MERCEDES WITH PURCHASE OF HOUSE".

For you financial experts. Is the Chinese dollar valued on the global market yet? I remember a few years back they were saying it is in the process of being valued. I don't know if that is the right term but basically I am asking what the exchange rate for the Chinese dollar to the pound or dollar.

Obama: tax the people more to fix the problem with our own monetary ability

Let's be clear here ... tax the RICH people

yes, please do. lets get it back to how it was in the 80s, 95% of the tax money collected was from the top 5% people of this country.

It was doing well, or at least on the up and coming- Then CRASH Many of the "middle class" in China in dire straights... So China as it sits today still remains a very BAD market to look into (i.e. makes the US market look like boom time).

Yeah? Well the 80's is also the area of crack cocaine and some other fun items.

Dont get me wrong- Lets tax the rich NON AMERICAN companies that do business in our great America. Why should Americans hurt for the wealth of other nations?

I like this idea and we need higher taxes on American companies that produce goods in other nations and import them for sale here and even higher taxes/tariffs on foreign companies that sell their products here. That way the only way people will be forced to pay so much for goods is if they really want a foreign product.

The electronics market might suffer greatly though because of that. Maybe their can be an exception on electronics of certain types?
