Is this something worth taking a picture of? I know a SOLAR eclipse is very visible during the day.....but what do you see (or DON'T see) during a LUNAR eclipse at night?

The following was posted on APC's forum, but I decided to list it here as well, as I know there are MANY UF members here who are currently deployed or rotate in and out of deployment. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Hey everyone.... [APC] ElJefeGrande, as many of you know, and some of you newer guys may not, was deployed out in Afghanistan roughly about a YEAR ago. 1: He's doing OK! 2: He wrote in a little letter letting us all know that HE'S COMIN' HOME BABY! I thought I would share this with you all, both the letter he's written to us and the rest of his family, as well as the thoughts from his wife, Tracy, out to us all as well.....to give some of us a semblance of what one thinks about as their loved one is away in the Middle East. I was touched, by both of their letters. ElJefe's comin' home very soon, APC! Can't wait to have a proper gaming homecoming for the bastard....he's gonna be such a NOOB! LOL From ElJegeGrande (James) - "Hey everyone, Mission complete, things went well. Short of another QRF (quick reaction force) and maybe a trip here or there, my detailed ops are complete. I am two weeks from beginning my check out process, and can now breath a sigh of relief, as I see the light at the end of the long tunnel. My relief should be here within a week to 10 days, so things are really looking up. I have been going hard since I got here, and finally get a chance to drop my pack (finally). I really miss you all, and am totally looking forward to coming home. It was a long road, but since I was so busy, the time really did just fly by. It is hard to believe that I will be home just after easter, so i look forward to seeing you guys. My plan now is to get my stuff together for turn in/or ready to be shipped home. I plan to travel light, and just finnaly be able to sleep in my own bed. In about two weeks, my contact will be limited once again. We were without internet here since christmas, but once it got back online we have been rolling or active nearly everyday; but that is finally coming to rest, lol I'm so happy! Hope to see you all very soon." - James _______________ From Tracy (his wife) - "Hello everyone, I want to start off by saying telling everyone who has emailed me over the last week, thank you, your words have been touching. I very much appreciate you! My only regret is that I have not personally responded to each of you expressing appreciation. Please know that I/we do The past week has been building in intensity in my heart and mind, and I think I am just now truly realizing that. I have known about the mission James left for this afternoon and have had difficulty in selecting words to write here. I know that he has the best protection, God, watching over him and that brings much comfort in the midst of this mission. From what I could gather from him, he has only been on one other mission of this magnitude. However to me, it seems I remember two such "trips" but I do not know much about how they really were since words are limited when we communicate. At any rate, his demeanor told me it is serious... And that brings me to you guys in asking for prayer for him during the next week. It may be less, or it may be longer. Either way, I will let you know the moment I hear from him I have to share my bittersweet moments from today with ya'll. This afternoon, I was at Walmart (yes on a Friday and a pay week, no I have no idea why I would do that to myself LOL) and my phone buzzed that I had a message. It was James just before they left to tell me he loved me. So sweet of him to think of me when he is preparing for this "trip" and my frustration was the fact that my phone did not ring when he called, but right when he left the message, the same time it tells me I have a message! Thank you Nextel! So silly because I know that if my phone had rang, it would have been the same short message, and then he would have had to go. But I would have been able to say I love you...ummm thank you Nextel LOL! Then when I get home, I find flowers with a bear left at the door for Christian and me! Again, bittersweet! They are beautiful and I can not wait to tell him thank you for them I have attached a couple pictures of he sent to me. The first and second pictures are from the magazine referenced in the first pic. Hey, do you recognize that guy in the second picture The third was from his last trip out. James and the little boy in the red took a liking to one another. He had the boy saying in Dari "My name is Muffin Man" over his liking of the muffins they had that day. I thought this was very sweet and rather cool that he was able to have fun with a few of the children there. The last picture is of the award he was given for what he has done since his return back over there after his R&R leave. Timing, timing is everything. He left today for this mission and today friends of ours from when we were stationed in Jax came to town. Visiting with them tonight was wonderful. They will be here for the weekend to check out this lovely town of the Sand Flea Resort as I refer to it They may be getting stationed here and wanted to check it out firsthand. I am excited and looking forward to spending this time with them. Christian is THRILLED as well. They have a son who is 6 and the boys quickly hit it off, in fact I think they were already in Christian's room playing before we could get in the door I believe they will leave on Monday and Monday we will head up to Auntie Judy's house to spend a couple days. Spending time with her and Maggie is always lots of fun!! That will bring us to Wednesday and that evening we will go to church. Then we will already be to Thursday! And maybe we will hear from a certain someone shortly thereafter <--- though it may not appear so, that is a HUGE grin! Through it all, I will remember that God's grace is sufficient for me, His strength made perfect in weakness. Seems there was something else... sorry to say that if I remember you will be hearing from me again soon LOLOLOL! I hope that all is going well with each of you and your families. I will continue praying for you, and with thanksgiving that I am blessed to know you. Hope that all of you have a wonderful weekend! All the bans put on [iMr] members were taken down two days ago and all accounts were deleted. As you can imagine, UF at this point does not know WHO or HOW many in the [iMr] clan were involved in this "recruiting" business, and to be very short here, for all we know, your explanation could be just as untruthful as you say xLASTx's is.....just more eloquently written. We're not saying we believe him over you, or vice versa.....all we're saying is, at this point, we don't know WHO to believe, and all we know is that clan [iMr] were using OUR PM system to recruit clans to another tourney, an action we find despicable. So the accounts were deleted. I don't like deleting accounts and will not bother deleting yours or his or anyone else that comes here. HOWEVER, if anymore notices come to our door about your clan continuing to recruit members of UF -from- within our forum, we're going to take that very personally.

Go to the icon that shows your thumbdrive, and then hit the circle button or something, and it will give you the option to "DISPLAY." From there, it should be self-explanatory.

That's the thing though.....about damn time for WHAT? I agree with whoever was writing about their grandfather up there. There are people out there who don't CARE about technology, don't CARE about seeing "every blade of grass" on the football field. People who don't CARE about "better, faster, stronger." Some people out there are fine where they are. I would say LET them be. I don't see why both can't be run. Y'know....like when a new Socom comes out, you can STILL go to the old servers and play the last Socom still. There DOES seem to be something wrong here, but I'm not informed enough right now to say what I think it might be. It just FEELS wrong. I have a dish for DirectV so it SEEMS that I have nothing to worry about (no, I do not have an HD tv yet), so I may be ok for now. But there are PLENTY of people out there who DON'T have it, and it'll be lower income and minorities that suffer. And you all know what happens when Low-incomers and minorities get pissy about something........they start marchin'. Maybe start lootin'. Maybe come in and loot that fancy tv of yours! LOL I don't know. I'm rambling. I just think it all very unnecessary. -

I am NOT complaining about the smoking ban. I don't smoke. And I don't appreciate coming home from a bar SMELLING like someone else's smoke. I like that they have to go outside now. Gets their smoke out of my hair, and gets them some exercise for their tar-ridden lungs. "How can you force something like that upon the people?" I can say the same about smokers smoking on those who don't. This wasn't some cheap shot at you, Prane. I just saw you bring up your example, and wanted to chime in on it. One year from today, we will switch on our old Watchmans and nothing will come out. No channel 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 or 13 for that machine unless maybe you make some mechanical alterations. My shower radio’s VHF-TV audio bands won’t work anymore. The TV frequencies we all grew up with – they’ve been around since the Great Depression – are going away. If your non-digital TV at home is hooked and stays hooked to cable or a satellite dish, you probably won’t have any problems. But if your analog TV gets over-the-air programming via rabbit ears or a roof antenna, you need to hustle out to Radio Shack or Best Buy or Circuit City or Wal-Mart and get a digital tuner. The government is handing out $1.5 billion worth of $40 coupons (up to two coupons per household) to cover part of the cost of these tuners, which run about $60 each. Thanks to something called the Digital Television and Public Safety Act of 2005, millions of U.S. television sets will stop receiving over-the-air signals on Feb. 17, 2009. Less than 15 percent of U.S. households relied exclusively on over-the-air broadcasts in 2004. The U.S. Senate barely passed the measure a little over two years ago. Dick Cheney had to fly in from the Middle East to cast the deciding vote. There's no word on whether he grumbled "Fuck Herc's shower radio" just before he pulled the trigger. Uncle Sam can afford the $1.5 billion in coupons because the airwaves being taken away from broadcasters (already using different bandwidths for digital TV and HDTV transmissions) are being auctioned off for about $10 billion. ______________________________________________________________________ Digital TV Shift Affects Minorities Most By JOHN DUNBAR – 3 days ago WASHINGTON (AP) — Hispanics are nearly twice as likely as whites to be left without television service following the nationwide transition to digital broadcasting next year, according to a new survey. Beginning in February 2009, full-power broadcast stations will transmit digital-only signals, meaning people who get their television programming over an antenna and do not have a digital set won't get a picture without a special converter box. The Nielsen Co. survey released Friday estimates that more than 13 million households in the U.S. receive television programming over the air on non-digital sets, meaning they will need converter boxes. Another 6 million households contain at least one television that fits that description. Nielsen researchers found that 10.1 percent of all households would have no access to television signals if the transition occurred today. Broken down by race, 8.8 percent of whites would be unready; 11.7 percent of Asians; 12.4 percent of blacks; and 17.3 percent of Hispanics. By age, of those 35 and younger, 12.3 percent rely solely on over-the-air broadcasts. Of those age 55 and older, 9.4 percent fall into that category. The survey noted that 16.8 percent of all households have at least one analog television set that would not work after the switch. The Nielsen survey was done as part of its overall television rankings forecast. The data was gathered by Nielsen staff who visited a national sample of roughly 15,000 homes. The survey took about 18 months to complete, according to the company. By market, New York is considered the most ready for the transition. Only 3.5 percent of television sets are non-digital and get programming over the air. Portland, Ore., is at the other end of the list, with 22.4 percent of television sets in that category. Eric Rossi, leader of Nielsen's digital transition preparedness team, said much of the data fits with existing assumptions about the transition, though the fact that seniors are more ready than the younger people is "maybe one of the slightly unexpected results." However, Rossi cautions, the age is based on the head of household. The survey does not include group quarters like retirement homes. Rossi said the results also track closely with cable television penetration rates. People who get cable or satellite service won't be affected by the transition. The government is accepting requests for coupons to subsidize the cost of converter boxes for those who need them. Each household is eligible for two coupons worth $40 apiece, regardless of whether they have pay-television service or not. To request a coupon, consumers can apply online at http://www.dtv2009.gov or call the 24-hour hotline, 1-888-DTV-2009 (1-888-388-2009). The coupons expire three months from issue. Boxes are expected to be available in the next week at Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Radio Shack and other retailers. They are expected to range in price from $40 to $70.
