  1. I agree with you on the corner camping Hell Raiser. I on the other hand have accepted it and use that strategy myself. I consider it a trade off for the peripheral vision that I personally have a hard time playing without. I enjoy being able to see clearly where my guys feet are and knowing what obstacles might be in my way.
  2. Zipper set the bar for a lot of things IMO the clan support was just one especially for it's time. Another is host migration. I saw a MW2 video where they featured there new host migration. You know the new one where when the host gets booted or leaves and the game pauses while it finds a new host. Are we supposed to be impressed by that? Zipper has had flawless host migration since the PS2 days another thing that even /6 got right.
  3. I don't know if you played the MAG beta or Killzone 2 but if they implemented something along these lines for clans it would be nice. Having your clan tag and name unchangeable so random people dont use them and make sure your members aren't flip flopping tags. I'm glad you brought this up cuz now I'm very interested to see where this goes. Or any of the Socom games starting from two to the present. Zippers attention to clan support set the bar IMO.
  4. I disagree with that. Hardcore S&D was a great mode and I played it exclusively on COD 4 but nothing beat a long 11 (or longer with tie breakers) round battle of demolition for me. The long games are what I enjoyed, the epic battle, the ebb and flow of the momentum. S&D and most other shooter games fail to capture that intensity because the games are either short or respawn.
  5. I don't think 3rd person will take over COD. At best I think it will be a nice feature for fans of third person in a game that is and always will be primarily a first person game. This is a pilot test of sorts for IW to try and see if they can steal away some of the Socom gamers. The way that Sony has been handling Socom this day was inevitable. I didn't really expect it from IW but I did expect a dev to try and capitalize on the Socom market at some point. Realistic and fun video games IMO don't belong in the same sentence. That being said In real life you can look down and see your feet are there any FPS that you can do that? The aim assist in MW can help make anything possible.
  6. For the most part I see a sharing of opinions...
  7. And this is the reason why Socomers and FPS players are from two different gaming worlds. We just like different things it's as simple as that. Don't play the 3rd person portion of the game and you'll be fine. Yes but you also trip over a lot of stupid rocks and fences and what not. Not to mention the peripheral vision is not there in FPS. I feel like a horse running around with blinders on in first person. I don't know about you but when I run blindly into a corner and someone pops out and kills me the first thing I always think is damn I should have thrown a grenade there I know better. The strafing is fun for me and I enjoy that a lot more than sitting back and having the game assist me by subtly locking on my enemy. I hated that about MW. There were countless times when myself and an enemy sniper pulled the trigger at almost the exact same time only one of us would die. Because he or I got the shot of a split second earlier only one person would be awarded the kill even though we both should have died.
  8. This sucks! Third person was the big IW secret. Why would you take a perfectly good first person shooter and mess it up. Idk, I guess it draws in 3rd person guys that didnt play before. I'm not a 3rd person guy, sorry Nor am I a First person guy but as long as we can keep the debates/opinions friendly we can co exist peacefully. I seriously doubt I will be a fan of playing a game in third person by a dev that specializes in first person. Who knows maybe they did a decent job of it. It looked like in the video that I saw they got the camera closer to the old school Socom style than /6 did which surprised me. Either way I don't see this as effecting the first person portion of the game since they are keeping them completely separate. Best thing I can see coming out of this for me is Sony making a push to get some info out about the next Socom.
  9. The view is a big part of it for me yes but... I am a huge fan of the old school style of Socom the kind without a sprint button. MAG, MW2, Socom Confrontation all having a sprint button really is irritating. I get so tired of mashing a stupid button to go places fast. It really takes away from the game for me. Bottom line is for me there are a lot of fundamental problems with the non old school Socom style shooters. I am one of those guys that if they can give us a new Socom that has the game play of the old ones I could easily play it for years especially if they keep it fresh with content. I would not need another shooter I wouldn't not buy MW2, MAG, or Flash Point if that kind of Socom game was out. The air support in COD is IMHO probably one of the most irritating parts of the game. Sometimes realistic or not it's just not fun. When reality starts taking away from the fun factor of a game it becomes not fun and that's why I play games. I enjoyed OFP2's super realistic style but it wasn't/isn't something I am going to play long term. I will play MW2 but probably only for a short time and the same with MAG. As far as the tactical shooter thing. Both MW and Socom can be tactical shooters if played in a rigid military way. More often than not though it comes down to who can get to the choke points faster and who has a better strafing gun game. Which is completely fine with me since the strafing battles are what make for a lot of fun. @ Snow Bud This Socom is the bastard child of the series made by a completely different dev. They did what they wanted with the game as far as the side switching and such. I would look for the next Socom to be more of the old style un watered down kinda game.
  10. Both games have their positives. Play the game you like to play. For me COD having a third person view is not going to change the problem I have with perks and air support. I will play MW2 for a little while maybe a few months or so maybe longer maybe less.
  11. Congratulations on a successful hell week. You guys are a real class act. I think we have a lot of people excited to see the COD MW stuff starting to get off the ground.
  12. Judges deciding fights in the interest of future dollars will ruin the sport. If that's how things are going to go down we might as well watch WWE.
  13. Ok so a gigabit modem.. Is that something I could/should get from my ISP or should I get that at best buy etc? I currently have an 8gb plan with my DSL provider because that's the best they offer. I could go cable and get a little faster but they are shady with their prices and I don't like how they do business in general. Fiber optics is still not available in my area.
  14. Wow that's a big difference. I have just recently picked up a Wireless N router with Gigabit ports but I need to move my modem. I can't take advantage of the gigabit ports until I move my router to the other side of the house. I have the WNR3500
  15. Just a heads up.. You don't need to make a new post to test your sig. You just need to update your profile with the new url and look at one of your existing posts.
  16. Still no date for anywhere other than Japan that I know of but here is a new behind the scenes video. This game has been in development for 5 years.
  17. I agree at this point all I want is maps. With MW2, MAG and hopefully GT5 coming out those should get me through till the next Socom.
  18. http://forums.socom.com/socom/board/message?board.id=confrontation&thread.id=385075 Hi, All- I know there has been some confusion about the differences in the posts on the North American and European PlayStation blogs over the weekend. I really hate being the bearer of disappointing news but I just got the official word on the matter: Unfortunately, SCEE posted a blog post which was based on out dated and inaccurate information. Some of the items mentioned in the SCEE post are included in the 1.60 patch (not the DLC) and one of the items mentioned (tie breaker round) was cut. The post has since been corrected. Regarding the tie breaker round, we have been looking for ways to incorporate the tie breaker round into SOCOM Confrontation since before the product was released a year ago. However, there are some serious technical and game design concerns which have prevented this feature from being implemented. We were looking for ways to incorporate the tie breaker round into the 1.60 patch but it was not possible without significantly delaying the release of the 1.60 patch and so this feature was cut. We apologize for getting peoples hopes up. We know this is a highly desired feature.
  19. Yeah it was a great game. I don't watch a lot of baseball but that was fun to watch.
  20. They never promised free maps. They did say free DLC which is in 1.6 the guns and special forces. They could have easily put those guns and special forces in the DLC and charged for them also. I don't think it's about /6 getting off their asses since they are busy with layoffs and probably going out of business.
  21. Well as far as another PS3 game I can't say. I can say they won't be making the next Socom game which is fine by me.
  22. Really?? After all of this and thats the best they could come up with to say THANK YOU? $5 off. How about they deduct that $9.99 from the $60 we've already paid then go in and finish the parts of the game that are still unfinished and we'll call it even. After that I'll pay for DLC if I'm still playing the game and decide I want it. Whats worse: A company that continues to produce piss poor product with even worse customer service or a consumer who continues to pay for the piss poor product with even worse customer service? You paid $40 dollars for the game and $20 dollars for the headset if you bought the bundle. This DLC has been done for a long time it's the patches and Sony that have been holding it up for so long. Even it was the other way around, $20 for the game and $40 for the headset, they owe me $10 for the game since they never delivered. I'm completely with you Dan, they should have released this first one for free. Any after this one I would have no problem paying for it then. Your right, but if it wasn't for Ravenfall, I sure as hell would not buy shit. Since the majority of my fellow clan brethren will, I will go with the flow so I can play with everyone. There is about a 99% chance that 1.6 and the Cold Front DLC pack will be it for Confrontation. The only way support for this will continue is if DLC sells a huge amount. Even then it's still not likely. So since it is not likely that there will be another DLC pack it would be hard to give this one away and charge for the next one. This game could not have been handled worse and the last year has been extremely frustrating but Socom is the primary reason I own my PS3. So $10 to extend the life of this disaster is not that big of a deal at this point.
  23. Of course and I'll get it in the first 24 hours to save $5. I don't want to spend any more on this game than I have to. I figure $10 to stretch out this game another 6 months to a year to get me closer to the next one is worth it.
  24. Also from my perspective I have put $40 dollars into a game that I have played for the majority of a year. It has been one hell of a frustrating year but still i got a year out of a $40 dollar game. I will probably have gotten 2 years out of it before the next comes along. Let's compare that to some other titles that have been a lot more functional. KZ2 - 1 Week for me didn't play again traded it in COD 4 - 3 Months for me before I went back to combined assault. I have rarely played it since Operation Flash Point 2 - 1 Week and will probably play it off and on for a while Socom Confrontation 4-5 days a week for a year This game is bad and has been extremely frustrating but I have gotten my moneys worth. I wish the DLC would have come out sooner.
