OK...short & sweet version. I will not become part of this nonsense. So please don't ask. Wes, your access was removed specifically because Backlash threatened Shane that he had NOT signed a Staff NDA, and that he would have no problem posting the materials regarding this whole Aiel matter on UF's forums, or other message boards. With that being said...WE (not just Shane) all agreed that allowing you to have access to Staff (or sensitive) information, would in turn be the same as allowing Backlash to have access. I am really sorry that all of this has happened. But that's the only explanation. And that's the truth. In short...you should really be pissed at Lash for going that route. Also, you and Lash both would've been 100% welcome at last night's Staff Meeting. I personally would have liked all of us to talk like adults about all of this mess. At any rate. Good luck with everything. Whether it's VR, your own tournament site/community, or whatever man. ~V~

Blackcloud is right ladies & germs. Like it, or not....It's called a "Private" BETA for a reason. Our relationship with Sony & Zipper is very important to this community. And this kind of "shady" business cannot be condoned or endorsed by the Admins of UF.

First....this is just a very small example of why you NEED to watch "Mad Men". Such a great show. Second....that video is brilliant. With the imminent launch of SOCOM 4, and with all of the talk about how far removed the current product is from SOCOM 2.... I've struggled a bit to find the words to express my position on the whole thing. But, after watching this video....I think I've figured it out. I believe the narrative gave us all the answers we need, to make peace with the fact, that we'll never have the same SOCOM again. Or at least the same SOCOM experience. As he pointed out, nostalgia is delicate, but very potent. I think about my past constantly. About how things used to be "back in the day". When my mom was still alive, and how fun & free it was to be young, and have my whole life ahead of me. I think about it sometimes, and it almost brings me to tears. Then I look around and think about how boring it would be, to have never grown up. About how I would have never gotten married, had kids, coached little league, worked in radio, or any of the other things I've been fortunate enough to experience. I agree that nostalgia is a carousel. It goes around in the same direction. Where you can revisit the fond memories of "what once was". Like I said...it's enough sometimes to bring most folks to tears. The only problem I have with all of this talk of "nostalgia" & "carousels"...is that you get nowhere. You stay trapped in limbo, trying to recapture that magical feeling, instead of making new memories. Innovation is nostalgia's younger, more daring cousin. It scares or confuses people, because it's unpredictable, and new. I like riding the carousel every once and a while...but sometimes, I want to ride the roller coaster. I want to veer away from the safety and familiarity of the carousel. And do something that scares me a little (thanks ER). To experience something new & different. SOCOM used to be more than a game. It was a social experience. It literally changed the way people game online. It brought together people from all over the world. And created millions of friendships, that is some cases, may last a lifetime. Times have changed. Now, a younger more "I want it now" generation of gamers, are the people who buy games. They don't care about how cool SOCOM used to be. They just want to get their prestige, or pad their ranks. Instead of shoot it up with people they genuinely care about. And Zipper Interactive's had it tough IMO. No matter how much we've complained about them. They've always tried to accommodate SOCOM's fanbase. But, we have to remember, that they have to be able to compete with the COD crowd. This is a very important release for SOCOM. So let's face it...they have to choose between staying on the carousel or taking a chance with the roller coaster. I really miss the good old days of SOCOM too....but I can't wait for SOCOM 4.

I actually asked EA's Eduardo Vasconcellos that question, and at the time ( UFreq. #74 http://www.urgentfury.com/blog/2010/10/31/5066/ ) he just didn't know. I can't remember if it actually made it into the episode, but I know I asked him. I'll see what I can find out next time I talk to him. But, I for one would love to see that happen. I'm a big fan of the game/franchise.

Ohhhh....thinkin outside the box. You da man Nem! We'll look into Halo:Reach & Spec Ops. And, we actually had Ghost Recon:FS on the table, but they can't decide on a solid release date. They're (Ubisoft) now saying the release date is April 2011-March 2012. Could they BE any more vague? lol I would just prefer the good old fashioned "TBA". Thanks Nemesis.

Yeah, for some reason it posts the thread before it allows you to choose the poll options. Anywho....we actually had a Medal Of Honor idea in the works, because EA's Craig Owens assured us @ E3 that the game would have the ability to create private matches. Once the game launched, we realized that you could not create a private match (unless they've changed that), so we had to scrap MOH from the playlist.

Check this one out...this might be the best summary from "Community Day" thus far. http://forums.socom.com/t5/SOCOM-4/The-good-The-bad-and-The-ugly/td-p/1030188

There won't be any Lobbies/Briefing Rooms per se'. And private rooms won't be ranked (I'm guessing "for now"). It (MP) will be "an all new experience"....yet, very familiar at the same time. Just be patient. Them's some smart MOFOs @ Zipper. I'm so excited. You should be too. Yay!

Here's a really clear picture from a SOCOM community member who actually attended the S4 community event...very thorough.... http://kinggilley.blogspot.com/

Right on Packer, no probs sir. If you want to find out more about the game, the S4 forums are certainly a great place to start. And the community managers are all about being "hands on". So if you have questions, be sure to ask. Like I said, I can't really go into it. But, if you'll refer to my orginal review of the "Alpha Build" demo I played at E3, you'll notice that Zipper had stated that the MP is “an all new experienceâ€, and it is. But, if you take the basic idea of the demo I described in that review, and apply it to the entire experience, I think you'll have a slight idea of what you might be missing if you skip S4. At any rate....stand by. ~V~

I can't really comment on this specifically...but I will say that your Intel isn't completely correct (with all due respect). That's all I can say at this point. Stand by.

Russian TV Links Modern Warfare 2 To Russian Massacre
V1P3R_1 replied to shane's topic in Blog - Urgent Fury Unleashed
It will fuel the fire a bit, but it's really just a matter of cause and effect. After Columbine, we had metal detectors in schools. After 9/11, a trip to the airport would never be the same. But, it's a true paradox. We all want to be safe. We all want security. But we don't want the inconveniences that come along with it. I honestly don't believe any truly restrictive legislation will ever be passed because of stuff like this. I mean, you'd have to make a case for life imitating art, and anybody with any common sense, knows that's just not the case. It would be different if this was a group of well armed domestic terrorists, mowing down folks indiscriminately in a crowded airport. But, as it stands...this was just a matter of religious radicals doing what they seem to do best...killing innocent people in the name of religion. -
Russian TV Links Modern Warfare 2 To Russian Massacre

It does reek of hyperbole. But, to be honest, it ("No Russian") did cross my mind the second I heard about the tragic events in Russia. In my humble opinion, when something like this happens, the human mind just can't process it completely. So, we search for something to blame it on. If a kid commits suicide, it must be Marylin Manson's fault, not the kid's mental health or the circumstances in his or her life. Much like the terrorists attacks on 9/11....some theorists have concocted this massive governmental conspiracy, because they just can't fathom death & destruction of that magnitude, without having a "logical" explanation. Regardless, it's very sad. My thoughts & prayers are with the victims' families, friends, and anyone effected by this appalling act. -
Urgent Fury has a podcast?! Hmmm..who knew?
