  1. We all have our Socom ps3 handles. Some are a bit more unique than others. People CONSTANTLY call me a tree, or a toyota mini van....Shane23 prefers Mexican..however there is much more to my name than probably more than 80 percent of you know. What better time than the thanksgiving time to introduce the Native American background in my name. I am Cherokee Indian, and thus I chose the name Sequoyah. Read below why. It is a bit lenghty, but please, indulge yourself to learn something and read it all the way through. Thanks for those that do. What does your name mean? "Most historians credit Sequoyah, the most famous Cherokee, with the invention of the syllabary. However, some oral historians contend that the written Cherokee language is much, much older. But even if there was an ancient written Cherokee language, it was lost to the Cherokees until Sequoyah developed the syllabary. The development of the syllabary was one of the events which was destined to have a profound influence on our tribe’s history. This extraordinary achievement marks the only known instance of an individual creating a totally new system of writing. Born in the 1770s in the Cherokee village of Tuskegee on the Tennessee River, Sequoyah was a mixed blood whose mother, Wureth, belonged to the Paint Clan. Sometimes the young man was known by his English name, George Gist or Guess, a legacy from his white father. Sequoyah, reared in the old tribal ways and customs, became a hunter and fur trader. He was also a skilled silver craftsman who never learned to speak, write or read English. However, he was always fascinated with the white people’s ability to communicate with one another by making distinctive marks on paper - what some native people referred to as "talking leaves". Handicapped from a hunting accident and therefore having more time for contemplation and study, Sequoyah supposedly set about to devise his own system of communication in 1809. He devoted the next dozen years to his task, taking time to serve as a soldier in the War of 1812 and the Creek War. Despite constant ridicule by friends and even family members, and accusations that he was insane or practicing witchcraft, Sequoyah became obsessed with his work on the Cherokee language. "It is said that in ancient times, when writing first began, a man named Moses made marks on a stone. I can agree with you by what name to call those marks and that will be writing and can be understood," attributed to Sequoyah. Some historians say that ultimately Sequoyah determined the Cherokee language was made up of particular clusters of sounds and combinations of vowels and consonants. The eighty-five characters in the syllabary represent all the combination of vowel and consonant sounds that form our (the Cherokee) language. In 1812, Sequoyah’s demonstration of the system before a gathering of astonished tribal leaders was so dramatically convincing that it promptly led to the official approval of the syllabary. Within several months of Sequoyah’s unveiling of his invention, a substantial number of people in the Cherokee Nation reportedly were able to read and write in their own language. Many mixed bloods were already able to read and write in English, but the syllabary made it possible for virtually everyone in the Cherokee Nation, young and old, to master our language in a relatively short period of time. In 1827, the Cherokee council appropriated funding for the establishment of a national newspaper. Early the following year, the hand press and syllabary characters in type were shipped by water from Boston and transported overland the last two hundred miles by wagon to the capital of the Cherokee Nation, New Echota. The inaugural issue of the newspaper, "Tsa la gi Tsu lehisanunhi" or "Cherokee Phoenix", printed in parallel columns in Cherokee and English appeared on February 21, 1828. It was the first Indian newspaper published in the United States."

  3. Ok so what do you do when NONE of the meds work??? After surgery, I finished off my husband's hydrocodone along with another Rx of it that I already had. It only knocked the edge off. Oh and I was taking it every 4 hours on the dot along with Motrin every 6 hours. When that was all gone, I went and got MY Rx filled and it was for the Percocet. And that crap makes me ill. I get real dizzy on that stuff. (Only took it for 2 days because I felt so bad on it.) Again taking it every 4 hours on the dot and Motrin every 6 hours. NONE of it even touched the dry socket pain. The only thing that helped was when I went back for my 1 week check the surgeon put this packing in there that had been soaked in some clove tasting funk. It helped but I tasted that crap for days. I couldn't decide which was worse, the pain or the taste of that stuff. Today he gave me Darvocet, so we'll see how well that does. I don't do pills, at all. Suffer through migraines all the time because I hate taking meds, but I will tell you, this crap makes me a believer in pain meds and now I see how people can get addicted. I'm going to try the Darvocet tonight. I hope it doesn't make me sick. :-\ I would really like to get some good rest tonight. Hippie, when I had my dry socket, the dentist put some kind of medicated something or other down into the socket. Yes, actually crammed it down there with a tool, without novicaine. It took 3 nurses to hold me down, but the pain was gone within an hour. I LOVE darvocet. Works great and doesn't make you sick. Its not as strong as the others though. I still kept the percs and got another refill to boot. LMAO! ;D ;D
  4. Guys...guys guys. I went throught the same awful pain, but they usually give you good drugs to mask that pain. I had percocet and as long as you take your second dose BEFORE the first one wears off, you shoudl be good to go. And Hippie, yes.dry sockets REALLY suck. But again, good meds fix the pain. Try taking more!! lol
  5. Happy Birthday, and Semper Fi bro! I was in the corp from 91-95. Best....AND..worst time of my life! ;D

  7. I was on last night with Tow, and a few other RVN guys, and of course my own neighborhood nacku...BigMoneyNacku, until about 3:30 this morning. I wasn't sleeping, but very ..uhh.....lets just say...out of it! ;D However, I do recall one time that I kinda fell asleep, it was more like passing out from a drunken stooper. Bigmoney had to call me to wake my ass up to go to bed. I managed to team kill him multiple times, If I recall correctly. ;D ;D
  8. I'm going to do my OTHER job and take away your moderator privelages on cBF forums. LOL! Bet I get there first........... ;D
  9. Hey all, standings have been updated to reflect all wars to date. http://www.urgentfury.com/black Black is going off wonderfully, and there have been many intense, and close battles. Many are distancing themselves form others with their wins. But the war rages on. Good luck to all involved, and have a great time! If there are any discrepancies have your Clan Rep (CR) contact me via PM. Thanks!
  10. Just a pic of the one I would LOVE to own some day.
  11. Here is a pic of a chevelle I am looking at. I can't afford it right now, but it is my ultimate dream car. EXACT make, model and color. 1965 Chevy Chevelle. I would literally give my right nut for this car. If anyone in the community was about 30 grand laying around, and are feeling generous, please pm me IMMEDIATELY! ;D
  12. Yep, you are correct. I swapped you out. Should be good to go now. Thanks for pointing that out for me. I appreciate it. Enjoy!!
  13. I will check that for ya!
  14. Try clearing your cookies, and then check it again. I see that you have 2 points. Sometimes if you don't clear your cache, on some pcs' then the display will read what it did the previous time you visited. Just a suggestion.
  15. Visit the official Urgent Fury: Black website to see who is leading the pack during our first Black installment for Socom: Confrontation!! After week one, several are separating themselves from the pack, and climbing to the tops of the leader boards. Remember this is about having fun, and preparing clans for the trials and tribulations of the much larger, more intense tac map tournaments. Good luck to all the clans involved, and mostly...HAVE FUN! http://www.urgentfury.com/black
  16. I personally like a sig to represent who I am, AND my screen name as well. Because I am Native American, I choose something that represents me, and my name Sequoyah, represents a figure in the Native American community. As far as interests, I leave that for my "friends" to figure out. :-\
  17. I own a 50 inch vizio plasma, and the quality for the price is excellent. I love mine. 3 hdmi inputs in the back, picture in picture. I really couldn't ask for more. I only paid a grand for it, which included a 4 year in home warranty.
  18. I purchased the new Metallica album and downloaded to my I-Pod last night. Listened to it quite a bit today, and here are my thoughts. There are so really good riffs in there, that take me back to the And Justice For All days, but it is not as good as I expected it to be. You have to understand, I am one of the BIGGEST Metallica fans out there. I own every album, can sing every song by heart. I was under the impression they were getting back to their roots on this album. Not hardely. Its fun to listen too, but not old school.
  19. You liar. You are always raving about the latest episode of Desperate House Wives on our forums. You lieing bastard!
  20. Thats excactly what I did, except it was in one of the other 3-5 riot act champ threads runnin around. LOL. Seriously, as I said in the other thread, very well done to the both of you. Sxb, SHO, it is very rewarding to us admins that work hard week in and week out, when we see such a positive result. I am extremely glad that you all had a good time, and that this tac map tourny was a pleasurable experience. It makes all the hard work, WELL worth it all. Congrats guys.
  21. Thank you Puddy for the kind words. I was only following the lead of the great UnderTow during this, my first tac map run as an admin. I had a blast. I met alot of great people and learned alot about the clans they are in. Congrats SxB. You guys came from behind, and slowly but surely every week gained another territory. Then another. No one saw it comming, but you guys took the lead. Amazing run. SHO, you guys really put on a great show during this run. Then intensity was never low, and the desire always high. Second place is still a great acheivment. We DO work very hard behind the scenes to bring you guys the best, ultimate, experience on tactical shooter scenerio tournaments. It is all worth it when you hear the kind words from the participants. Tow and Sniper as always deserve a standing ovation, as they REALLY work their asses off putting these tac maps on, updating the site, and all the other time consuming things. But, I can speak for them when I say, it is all worth it, for you guys.! Great job Sxb, and SHO. I am glad you enjoyed yourselves. See you in the next one!
  22. LOL. I got me another bowl of Lucky Charms and waiting patiently.
  23. VERY nicely done SHO and SxB. Its gonna be a wild and crazy war. Best of luck to he both of you.
  24. I understand your concern, however it is no different now then using AIM, or using the PHONE! Just another option is all. To people that WANT to cheat, and call, and what ever, there always has been and always will be options. The rest of us, like you bro, will continue to kill and hunt people the old fashioned way. ;D
  25. You boys oughta be proud of your acomplishments thus far. Not many make it this far. Very nice job!! However it has only just begun, the next week will be action packed! Good luck!!
