Guitar Hero Live launches on PS4 in just two short weeks! Rhythm game aficionados, myself included, have fond memories of their repeated attempts (and, hopefully, eventual victories) to conquer the series’ most difficult songs: Jordan in Rock Band 2, Through the Fire and Flames in Guitar Hero 3, and so on. Naturally, when given the opportunity to talk to some folks from Activision, my first question was “What’s the hardest song in Guitar Hero Live?†With their help, we’ve got a few different answers to those questions, as answered by members from the GH Live team at Freestyle Games. Onward! Megadeth – Hangar 18Aaron Grimes, Midi Designer “This song is hard because of the rhythms in the solos. Marty Friedman is a precise player and moves around the neck a lot so this is represented in the markup. The way to get through it by keeping your eye out for the strummed notes before HOPOS then let your fingering hand do the rest!†Alter Bridge – Cry of AchillesNathan Coppard, Senior Game Designer “The track starts out with a soft acoustic into that is deceptively intricate, any mistakes here will really stand out. If you haven’t already given up, the driving verse riffs require tight, consistent timing. Keep up with the changes in tempo to make it through to the solo where you get a chance to show off. Then all that’s left is the endurance test that is the outro. Everything that you’ve played before means nothing if you don’t hold it down and nail the end. While all of this is going on, you may not have had a chance to take in the epic story unfolding in the animated music video. If you are really good enough you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the visuals while you shred your way to victory.†Lamb of God – Ghost WalkingMike McLafferty, Audio Designer Why is it so difficult (musically)? This is a classic Lamb of God riff; that bluesy feel with technical curveballs thrown at you every so often finished off with some bar-crossing rhythms to catch you off guard. And of course, a savage solo melts your face off at the peak of the track. A tough one to get to grips with, but nailing the riff is really rewarding once you get the pattern. Why is it so difficult (in terms of gameplay?) The intro riff on the acoustic throws some fairly quick string skipping in there (black to white) mixed in with lots of open strums, so you have to become quite agile at changing strings. The next thing to get to grips with is the non-standard rhythm patterns that use the open strums as a pedal note. Finally, the solo; it’s just gnarly. Any tips for getting through it? The cool thing about GHTV is you can kind of listen to the riff a little bit and get your head round the pattern as it doesn’t kick you out. This is great for just building up patterns by playing ‘chunks’ of the riffs. This is how I nailed the intro riff for Ghost Walking, just step by step and build up the notes slowly. You could also drop down a difficulty, but that just feels wrong to me! Make sure you make the most of the hammer-ons and pull-offs (the glowing gems) so your strumming arm doesn’t get tired; and also nothing looks cooler than throwing some shapes while you nail a section one-handed (what?! It totally looks cool!). Lastly: the solo. This one might take some time to master; I’m still not there yet. Knowing the track is half the battle, so listen through it a few times to know when it goes up and down in pitch. Again, use those HOPOs to your advantage because you probably won’t be able to keep up if you try and strum all of it! View the full article

With only 3 months left of the year, you might think that one of this summer’s blockbusters will have snagged the title of “Most Played Game This Year.†After all, they’ve had months of lead time. Well, you’d be wrong. Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance is out today exclusively for PS4, and I hope you saved up your sick days; you’re gonna need ’em with how long these will keep you playing. 1.) Serious Strategy. Seriously.Everybody jokes about the jokes in Disgaea. The horse unmentionables. The sardines. Those poor, poor Prinny souls. But those jokes only hold on because underneath the trappings of humor, and silliness, sits one of the most robust, and serious strategy games around. Think you have a mind for tactics and strategy? See how you do on a stage full of geo panels, with 50 enemies against your team of 10 unlikely heroes. This game takes time to master, but when you do, you’ll feel like a god… or an Overlord, as it were. 2.) Millions of Levels. Literally.Okay, math is hard. I’ll admit it. But I’m pretty sure that if you’re leveling a bunch of characters up to 9,999, and a bunch of items to 9,999, and then you reincarnate to get that sweet, sweet stat boost, that you’ll be hitting millions of levels. That math works out, right? No? Well, I can at least guarantee that you’ll be doing millions of points of damage in one attack by that time. And how good does that feel? Really good. Trust me, you’ll want to get on my level for that damage. 3.) A Longer Disgaea than Ever. Dood. You don’t care about getting everything? About being the greatest Overlord there ever was and hitting level 9,999 then reincarnating and doing it again? Well. Okay then. I guess you’ll just have to get by with spending an insane amount of time getting just a taste of all the features. A 40+ hour story, the Prinny Research Squad, and the ability to visit your friends’ Netherworld, a brand new Item World system, building your team with the Recruiter, and so much more. Heck, a fellow posted his screenshot on our Facebook page with over 200 hours in just the demo! A demo! (A demo that you can grab right now on PlayStation Store.) Good thing his save file transfers to the full game, eh? 4.) More Game Through the Holidays. Merry Disgaea-mas.We squeezed all the awesome DLC into our post-development schedule that we could, because when you’ve got a game with hundreds of hours of gameplay, what else do you do but add even more scenarios and characters? We’re rushing on a tight schedule, but all the DLC should be out by November 10th, and that means you’ll be able to make your holiday season disappear into the sweet time-sink that is Disgaea. And because we like you guys, we set up a Season Pass that you’ll be able to pick up on PlayStation Store October 13th to save some dough and make sure you don’t miss any of the 8 bonus scenarios and 6 throwback characters. 5.) Your Parents’ Expectations. My parents always told me to be the best. And the only way to be the best is to hit level 9,999 and show everyone just how great I am… right? Right? I dunno about you, but that’ll keep me playing… Anyway! We’re super excited to see how much playtime you guys get out of the game, so go grab the full game or demo right now, and make sure you tweet out your screenshots to us with #Disgaea5! We’d also love to hang out with you on our Twitch channel at 5:30 PM Pacific today as we stream the game and have a Prinny good time. Happy gaming, dood! View the full article

I’m Tom Ivey, the design lead on Armature Studio’s new multiplayer space shooter, Dead Star on PS4. Today’s an exciting day for everyone on our team here at Armature. We’re finally able to reveal our game to the PlayStation community! Start Small, Dream BigIn November of 2013, three developers inside Armature came together to begin work on a new game prototype. Huddled together in a corner of the studio, we only had a few computers and a basic goal: build a fun, fast, arcade-style multiplayer space shooter. We wanted combat to feel exciting and engaging: scout ships zipping in and out of asteroid fields, raiders appearing from cloak to strike at the enemy, and frigates bombarding the area with missile fire. In order to ensure that a player’s skill and strategic choices were paramount to success, we adopted a top-down perspective for the game and focused hard on keeping the controls simple and responsive. Very quickly we had a solid framework: a demo that captured those moments unique to a multiplayer experience — people yelling and moaning and cheering all across the office as they won, lost, or made that one-in-a-million shot. With our core gameplay locked down, we began expanding our tiny demo into a full-fledged universe. Welcome to the WastesIn the world of Dead Star, any citizen who violates the law of the galaxy is banished to the Wastes: a black void of scorched metal and irradiated rock a hundred light-years from habitable space. At the center of this prison-space sits the Dead Star, a massive red giant corrupted by dark antimatter. Life in the Wastes is a constant battle for survival, a war between psychopaths and criminals fighting over whatever scraps of technology they can find floating in the remnants of the centuries-old battlefields. As if this existence wasn’t miserable enough, now the Dead Star has begun collapsing upon itself, threatening to go supernova and annihilate every living thing within a dozen light-years. When you first start playing Dead Star, your pilot has just been exiled to the Wastes. In our primary game mode, you’ll fight over control of the prison, earning fame and rewards based on actions you perform in battle. Your skills in combat will determine whether you die in a blast of laser fire or gain infamy as the galaxy’s greatest pilot. Galactic ExpansionAs we expanded the dramatic universe of Dead Star, we also expanded the core game systems to include modern twists on the genre. We focused on three primary goals for the game: Support many unique play styles: Dead Star offers a variety of ships, each with unique abilities that can be unlocked and upgraded on the fly within a match. The game also provides multiple roles in combat, from defensive positions like mining and base upgrading, to offensive roles like long-range scouting and control-point capture. Create strategic variation: Instead of providing a limited set of static maps with known strategies, Dead Star’s procedural map generation system creates multiple randomized scenarios every match, then lets players vote where the battle takes place! Add the “Whaaaaaaat? Factorâ€: With Dead Star, we’re trying something a little crazy. In our to-be-announced game mode, we allow players to dynamically impact live, ongoing player matches in a unique and exciting way. In the coming months, we’ll reveal more details on these and many other features, unveiling the mysteries behind our new game mode and giving you a behind-the-scenes look at Dead Star’s systems. For now, I hope you enjoyed this short glimpse at the game, and I look forward to fighting alongside you in Dead Star on PS4! View the full article

Once again it’s Brian Michael Bendis, co-creator of the Powers comics and executive producer of the PlayStation Original Series, Powers. I am broadcasting to you from Atlanta where the second season of production is underway, and I cannot wait for you to see all the incredible goodies we have in store for you! I told you last week when we announced the addition of Michael Madsen to the cast in the role of SuperShock that the story would be picking up where we left off last season. *SPOILER ALERT* for those of you who aren’t familiar with the comics or may not have seen last season yet (What are you waiting for? Go to PlayStation Store now!) We’re diving deep into the “Who Killed Retro Girl?†story and exploring what the world of Powers looks like in her absence. Losing Powers’ most famous superhero, played by the incomparable Michelle Forbes, is certainly going to shake things up in a BIG way. Speaking of shaking things up, I’m so incredibly excited to announce another super cool piece of casting news. Fans and sci-fi nerds everywhere, and that would include me, will be very happy to know that the one and only Tricia Helfer is joining the cast of Powers! Yes, ‘Number Six’ herself, Battlestar Galactica’s own, is on the show. Tricia is playing FBI Special Agent Lange, a woman who, just like in the comics, shares a sordid history with Sharlto’s character, Detective Walker, and walks a fine line between the Powers world and the government, serving as both an ally and enemy. Lange happens to be one of my favorite characters in the comic, so I was hoping we’d find someone VERY special — and we did. As another fun exclusive for all the PlayStation fans, we’ve also cast Lost’s William Mapother in the role of Calista’s estranged father. I don’t want to give away too much, but anyone who watched season one knows that things won’t be rainbows and sunshine when their paths finally cross. Season two is really starting to take shape and I know you’re going to enjoy all the cool new stuff we’ve added this time around. I can’t share too much yet, but I’ll be back here again soon with more updates! View the full article

Hi everyone. We launched our epic PS4 papercraft adventure Tearaway Unfolded into the wild last month and we’ve loved seeing the response from both players and critics alike. During the making of any game, there are always a great wealth of fascinating facts and figures about the project that never usually see the light of day. With that in mind, we’ve decided to dust off our memories and take a look back at the development of Tearaway on PS Vita and Tearaway Unfolded on PS4 to share some of our most secret squirrels with you all! We used 280,918 sheets of paper to make Tearaway, and we needed to make 647,708 folds! The original version of Tearaway was called “Sandpit,†and lots of the code (especially in the PS Vita version) still refers to “Sandpit†instead of Tearaway. Thanks to our bespoke editor, every object in the game could theoretically be made from real paper. The PS4 version has procedural “thick edges†that get added automagically to non-ripped paper edges, making the paper even more realistic! And all the edging used in Tearaway Unfolded is actual 3D edging, they’re not textures. When Tearaway was a free roaming game way back in the early stages of development, we used real global locations and you could walk from the very South of England to Scotland in 46 minutes and 12 seconds. The Squirrels are referred to as Monkeys in the development environment, Scraps are referred to as Grunts (sometimes even Cyclops), and Elks are referred to as Elephants! Confetti is also known as Fluff. The game editor continues using the LBP “-inatorâ€-suffix, such as the Fluffinator and Dependinator. The original name for iota was OOLA and his appearance was quite different to how he looks today! The Game Menu is built using the same level editor as the game is. The Paper Plane was originally made for Tearaway on PS Vita, however we didn’t feel it was quite right at that time, which is why we were even more excited to introduce it in Tearaway Unfolded! There are 29,097 words in the game in 21 languages, which gives us a grand total of 611,037 words in all the different languages! This is (Roughly!) equal to about 2 Game of Thrones novels. The Tripod is the ultimate tool to take selfies in crazy situations! Did you know you can take photos whilst riding the Pig and even the Paper Plane (but at your own risk)! Scraps fart! There was a physical paper prototype built for the in-game menu. No baby Wendigos were injured during the making of this game. <3 Did any surprise or astound you? Let us know in the comments below! And if you haven’t picked up your copy of Tearaway Unfolded yet, visit PlayStation Store to begin your papery adventure. View the full article

We’re days away from white-knuckle battles, blaster showdowns, lightsaber duels, and sweeping conflicts across iconic Star Wars vistas. The Star Wars Battlefront Beta begins October 8th on PS4, welcoming prospective Rebels and Imperials from around the globe to sample Battlefront’s massive multiplayer modes. To prepare you for the upcoming Beta, we asked Battlefront Community Manager Mat Everett and our colleagues at EA and DICE to give us all the details on how to get in, get ready, and get playing. Let’s get started! The Basics What is the Star Wars Battlefront Beta? It’s an opportunity for the team at DICE to test various aspects of Star Wars Battlefront and its online infrastructure. Because of this, you may experience interruptions to gameplay. When is it? The beta opens on October 8th to players all around the globe. Do I need to register? Nope, it’s open to all PS4 players. There’s no need to register so you can dive into the game and join the fight. Do I need to be a PlayStation Plus member to play it? Nope! It’s open to all PS4 players with an internet connection. Where can I find the Beta? Head over to PlayStation Store. How big will the download be? Around 7GB. Will there be maintenance windows or updates? As this is a technical test, there will most likely be downtimes and restarts, etc. Full details and updates will be posted on the forums. When will the Beta end? October 12th. Exact times vary by region. What’s In the Beta What modes can I play once it starts? The Beta includes three modes spread across three iconic planets, including: Walker Assault on Hoth: Fight in epic 40-player battles as a Rebel to destroy the Empire’s onslaught of AT-AT’s by calling in Y-wing bombers. Or, side with the Empire and protect your walkers while utilizing their mighty weaponry to crush the Rebel objective. Drop Zone on Sullust: Escape pods are crashing down and you and your team must fight to control them. With its frantic 8v8 matches, Drop Zone is sure to put your combat and strategy skills to the test. Survival Mission on Tatooine: Play alone or with a friend via co-op or split-screen as you battle to hold off waves of Imperial forces including AT-ST’s, TIE fighters, elite stormtroopers, and more. Is there a level cap? You can advance to level five. Once you hit the level cap you’ll no longer be able to progress to higher levels, though you’ll still be able to unlock items. Do my stats and progression carry over to the main game? Stats and progression will not carry over to the final game. How many players can play via split-screen on one PS4? You can play two-player split-screen on PS4 in the Survival Mission on Tatooine. What control schemes will be available? Default controller layout, Southpaw, and Lefty options. Can you play as a Hero unit during the Beta? Of course! You can play as Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker in Walker Assault. You just need to locate the hero power-ups across the battlefront. How much customization do you have over your character in the Beta? You can customize their hands with weapons and gadgets! Specific character customization is not unlocked in the Beta, but you’ll see a mix of options as characters will be randomly generated with male and female models. What weapons do the Rebels have access to in each game type? Rebel players will start off with the A280C blaster and can play to unlock the DH-17, DLT-19, and E-11 blasters. There are a few other weapons players can unlock via Star Cards, but we don’t want to spoil those. Keep in mind, the Beta only offers a taste of weapons, Star Cards, and features. We plan to reveal more weapons on our official site before November 17th. What weapons does the Empire have access to in each game type? With the limited selection of weapons in the Beta, the Imperial troops will be able to unlock the same weapons as the Rebels. The difference is they will start off with their own trusted E-11 blaster. Don’t worry, they won’t miss too many shots… What vehicles will I pilot during the Beta test? Players will be able to pilot an X-wing, A-wing, TIE fighter, TIE Interceptor, AT-ST and a Snowspeeder. You’ll also be able to control the weapons system of the mighty AT-AT. Tips and Tricks What are some strategies for each mode? Strategies can vary depending on how you like to play, but here are a few pointers that can give you an edge in your early matches. Tips on Survival Stick to the high ground and keep your distance from the waves of enemies — allowing them to get close can spell certain death. Capture the Drop Pod before and during wave three and utilize your power-ups to dominate the Imperial forces. Also, not all waves are just your typical Stormtroopers, so gear up to take on those pesky AT-ST walkers. Tips on Drop Zone In this mode you have a lot of options in play style thanks to the layout on Sullust. Keeping your distance is great if you’re using the cycle rifle, but this limits your ability to play the objective. Getting up high with a jetpack can play to your advantage against Stormtroopers or Rebels running into the deep valley paths, but note that you can easily become blaster fodder if you’re not aware of your surroundings. Finally, you can play like me and run ‘n’ gun and focus on clearing out the Drop Pod areas and holding the objective. Tips on Walker Assault This mode is by far the most complex in the Beta, with moving objectives, massive areas for battle, and keeping aerial assaults in mind — you’re going to be challenged in every way possible. From the Rebel perspective: Capture both uplinks and hold them as long as you can. The longer you secure these key objectives, the more Y-wing bombers you unlock. These are key to weakening the AT-AT walkers and allow you to do significant damage to them. The AT-AT walkers only take significant damage while vulnerable. Securing anti-vehicle rocket launchers and well-placed Ion grenades will be your go-to in the Beta. But focus those AT-AT walkers when they’re vulnerable and you should be able to hold back the Empire. Snowspeeders are by far the most efficient way to take down AT-AT walkers. Master the Tow Cable takedown and watch the Imperials fall. But watch out for those Imperial fighters as they can quickly blow you out of the sky. From the Imperial perspective: Assaulting the Rebel base from all angles is important. Stopping the Rebels from securing uplinks and protecting your AT-AT walkers are your top objectives. Utilizing vehicle power-ups and securing the high ground across the map can help give you an advantage. If the Rebels can control the uplinks, get ready to take to the sky and defend your AT-AT walkers from X-wings, A-wings, and those pesky Snowspeeders. To sum it up: attack and defend the uplinks, protect your AT-AT walkers, and destroy the Rebel scum! Special note: Securing hero power-ups can help turn the tide of battle, so watch your back as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader take to the battlefront. Extras Is there a Companion app I can use during the Beta? Yes! You can try out the Star Wars Battlefront Companion experience. Available during the Beta only at www.StarWarsBattlefront.com, the Star Wars Battlefront Companion experience features the strategic card game Base Command, and lets you earn in-game Credits that unlock Star Cards, weapons, and more in Star Wars Battlefront. In addition to Base Command, the Companion also lets players check out game stats and progression, customize load-outs and appearance, connect with friends, and more. What time will the Companion be available on October 8th? Time will vary by platform and region. Will there be a mobile app for the Companion? During the Beta, the Companion will only be playable via browser at www.StarWarsBattlefront.com. Prior to the release of Star Wars Battlefront, the Companion will be available on web and in the Apple App Store and Google Play store. Note that stats and progression earned during the beta will not carry over to the final Companion experience. What browsers does the Companion support? The latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Internet Explorer 11. View the full article

Hi from Harmonix development land! With the release date of Rock Band 4 just a day away, we wanted to give you an all-in-one-stop place for everything you need to know about the upcoming release! We have had a blast making this game for you and we hope you have a blast playing with friends, family or even solo. The MusicThe Rock Band experience starts with the music and Rock Band 4 has the strongest set list I think we’ve ever put together, with songs from bands such as Aerosmith, U2 and Van Halen. We’ve got metal (Avenged Sevenfold), the King (Elvis Presley), some up and comers that will blow you away, and… so much great music. Here’s our full set list: Pre-order Rock Band 4 digitally because we have a phenomenal promotion running for PlayStation Plus folks: 10 awesome DLC tracks that mirror that same diversity as our on disc setlist, including songs from Pantera, Duran Duran, Bring Me The Horizon and more. While these songs will soon be available for purchase, PlayStation Plus fans that preorder can get them free of charge (as well as have the game set to automatically download to your console on launch day). And if you have your Rock Band PlayStation 3 controllers or most other PlayStation 3 music game controllers, you will be able to play Rock Band 4 with your existing hardware. Freestyle Guitar SolosRock Band 4 is chock full of innovations but the feature we’re most excited about is the Freestyle Guitar Solo feature. With Freestyle Guitar Solos, you get to bust out your own awesome guitar solos. While we’ve adhered to our principles of accessibility to make it easy to sound great right away, we’ve also built a system with gameplay and depth – it’s a new way to play Rock Band that fits right into the core fantasy that makes Rock Band great. We’ve developed a lot of great tech to make you sound awesome all the time while crafting totally individual, face melting solos. Awesome New HardwareWhile based on the classic and battle tested design of the previous Rock Band controllers, we have taken every opportunity for hardware improvement. The guitar brings back the classic Fender Stratocaster look along with a number of design improvements: Accelerometer for improved tilt functionality Fret buttons are more responsive and durable Native Bluetooth wireless connections – no more USB adapters The drums have also taken a step forward with a more durable kick pedal, more responsive and quieter drum heads, and a new cymbal pack that will be available for purchase shortly after launch. Finally, we’ve developed a brand new microphone that allows for more gain with less distortion – sing louder and be heard! Break Out Your Old Songs and GearOur back catalog of over 1500 songs has been updated with new gameplay, so that every song now supports all the new Rock Band 4 gameplay features. On top of that, you are entitled to just about any Rock Band DLC you might have purchased on the PlayStation Network. You can re-download into Rock Band 4 any DLC you previously purchased on the PlayStation Network for earlier versions of Rock Band. Best of all, this is free – no need to buy songs for the 2nd time. Additionally, most previous PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 wireless music game controllers from Rock Band and other franchises will work with Rock Band 4 on the PlayStation 4, that’s without needing any other additional equipment. So if you want to add in a few more folks to the party, you can use the stuff you already own. To find out all the details, take a look at our detailed compatibility chart here. Freestyle VocalsIf you like to sing, you’re in luck. We’ve completely revamped the singing game, adding a new feature called Freestyle Vocals. Freestyle Vocals rewards you with a points bonus for improvising – as long as you are singing in the key of the song, you’re good! It’s a great feature for people that like to sing. Classic Band Game Play With New TwistsWe’ve updated all the major modes of play, from the classic QuickPlay mode, to a new ‘Shows’ mode that introduces dynamic setlist voting (never lose friends over what song to play next again), to the revamped campaign. So the classic band gameplay you love is still there. Thanks For Supporting Us!Lastly, just in case it isn’t clear, we are 100% committed to the Rock Band franchise. We want to work with you, our community, to continue to build upon this game. Let us know what you think! Rock Band 4 was built from the ground up based on the features the most fans wanted, and we’re always happy to hear where you think the franchise should be headed. We’ve got an aggressive schedule of feature updates and weekly new song DLC for after launch, so stayed tuned from us as well. We have loved seeing you guys rock out at events across the nation this spring and summer, and we can’t wait to see what fun folks have with the final game, as you all discover and rediscover the joys of being Rock Gods. Heya, PlayStation folks. My name is Adam from Austin-based independent studio Panic Button. In celebration of International Dinosaur Month (it’s really a thing), we’re bringing Circle 5 Studio’s dino-versus-people, first-person frag fest Primal Carnage: Extinction to PS4 on October 20th! In a nutshell, Primal Carnage: Extinction is a class-based biter/shooter in which you play as your favorite dinosaur or mercenary to bite/claw/douse-with-poisonous-spit members of the opposing team in a variety of gameplay types. The game is no-frills, jump-in-and-have-fun PS4 multiplayer mayhem with up to 16 players in player-hosted online and offline (single-screen LAN) modes. It makes great use of DualShock 4 and even has a custom control scheme for PS Vita Remote Play. Team Deathmatch — (un)Traditional dino-versus-human team-based multiplayer in unique battle arenas. Get to the Chopper — Control key parts of the map in this objective-based game mode, ultimately unlocking the escape helicopter and the Tyrant dinosaur that will try to stop it. Survival — Play solo or co-op through wave after wave of AI dinos. Free Roam — For those who want to strut their dino-might without the pressure of timers or kill counts. Playing as dinosaurs, spit, pounce, chomp, and tail-swing your way to the top of the food chain. Not exactly your typical FPS. Dilophosaurus — Ambush and blind your enemies from a distance or put your poisonous fangs to use, which will blind and slow the bipedal meat sacks. Novaraptor — Fast and scary is your namesake. Mercilessly slash your enemies or pounce and maul them into the ground. Watch out for the counterattack, though! Pteranodon — Reconnoiter from the sky and hone your swoop-down-and-carry-off skills or practice juggling your prey with a Pteranodon friend. Carnotaurus — You’re a two-legged cross between a bull and a T-Rex that charges your victims to death and can also heal by taking a bite out of them. Tyrannosaurus Rex — As the King of Lizards, be a high-health fearsome tank of an adversary. As far as the human team, use weapons unique among first-person shooters to tranq, net, snipe, shoot, flame, or rocket your way to homo sapien superiority. The Scientist — Snipe from afar, or slow down opponents with your unique-to-class tranquilizers, but don’t let the beasts get in your personal space (You can say goodbye if they do). The Commando— On the other end of the spectrum, humble those legendary beasts with your assault rifle or rocket launcher. Remember you may be strong, but you’re not quick. Good thing you can take a beating. The Pathfinder — Get up close and personal with your powerful short-ranged shotgun and leverage your agility to reload without getting eaten. The Trapper — Net smaller dinos and lock the jaws of the larger ones to make them more susceptible to damage — a great tactic to slow them down for your team mates. The Pyro — Because fire. Whether you’re comfy in your human skin or dinoLARPing is more your thing (we don’t judge), we hope you enjoy this modified take on the class-based first-person shooter genre. Happy International (First-Person-Shooter) Dinosaur Month! View the full article

Hello, PlayStation fans! The day is almost upon us — on October 6th Super Meat Boy will finally come to PS4 and PS Vita as a cross buy title. As a thank you to the fans who have been so patient with us, Super Meat Boy is going to be free to download as part of October’s PS Plus lineup. For those of you that never played Super Meat Boy, you’re in for a real treat. You’re about to play a game with the best controls and level design this side of 1988. For those of you that have already had the joy (Pain?) of experiencing Meat Boy, you’ll notice that the soundtrack is different. Long story short, we couldn’t secure the rights to include the old soundtrack with the release of the game on PS4 and PS Vita. Now don’t be too bummed because we had the opportunity to work with our favorite artists to re-score Super Meat Boy to celebrate its 5th Anniversary. Our dream team of artists consists of: Matthias Bossi and Jon Evans, known the world over as Ridiculon (whose most recent work includes The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth), provided the bulk of the soundtrack. They took care of The Forest, Hell, The Rapture, and The End, as well as the intro music and title screen. They also re-scored all of the cutscenes and miscellaneous ditties. Their work is always stellar and Super Meat Boy is no exception. Ready yourselves for some devilishly gruesome guitar work, my friends. David “Scattle†Scatliffe of Hotline Miami fame used his unique moody style to create incredible tracks for The Hospital and the Salt Factory. His mastery will leave you wondering if the shakes you’re having are from the intense levels or the creepy/industrial bliss your ears are soaking in. Laura Shigihara of Plants vs. Zombies renown scored The Cotton Alley in her style to give Bandage Girl’s levels a gentle, feminine touch that provides a fitting counterpoint to the hardest levels in the game. That’s a pretty slick roster of artists. We were lucky enough that they were all friends of ours and fans of Super Meat Boy. Their passion and love for the game can be heard in the work they put into making the game sound amazing. We’re honored to have them on the team for this version of Super Meat Boy. Their marvelous soundtrack coupled with Jordan Fehr’s gross and satisfying SFX create an auditory masterpiece that complements Super Meat Boy like butter to lobster. But, talk is talk — your ears need to judge. We don’t want you to hear the whole soundtrack just yet; that special date is reserved for October 6th, but we’ll give a little taste of what’s to come. Below, you’ll find a link to the Hell Boss track. When you listen to it, you can hear that it burns with a seething intensity that is Hell in Super Meat Boy: Songs in the Key of Meat: Music from SMB 5th Anniversary by Ridiculon We’re excited for old fans, forgotten fans, and fans that don’t yet know that Super Meat Boy is their all time favorite game to join us October 6th on PS4 and PS Vita to celebrate Super Meat Boy’s 5th birthday in style! Love, Tommy and Edmund P.S. The DualShock 4 glows red while you play Super Meat Boy. If you were on the fence before and this tidbit didn’t sway you, then I don’t know what I can do for you. Hey everyone, some big news was shared moments ago at the IgoMir event in Russia! The “Iron Cyclone†will be making his way into Street Fighter V! A popular mainstay within Street Fighter, Zangief is the most prominent wrestler within the series. Zangief has made appearances in Street Fighter II, Street Fighter Alpha II and III, and Street Fighter IV, all the while fighting for “Mother Russia.†When it comes to raw strength, not many in the world can compete with Zangief. Training day and night, Zangief believes that the only way to victory is to have a body complete with perfect muscles. Due to his intense training, which includes wrestling bears, Zangief can lift the heaviest opponents with ease! In SFV, Zangief shows off the results of his training through his newfound V-Skill, Iron Muscle and new V-Trigger, Cyclone Lariat. These two skills are just the tip of the iceberg however, as Zangief has even more new tactics in store for the world warriors this time around. V-Skill: Iron Muscle Zangief shows the true power of his body when he activates Iron Muscle. During Iron Muscle, Zangief can absorb one attack, which leaves him with recoverable health. If players hold down medium punch and medium kick and then press a direction on the stick, Zangief will begin to slowly close in on the opponent. Upon release from the walk, Zangief flexes his muscles and hits the opponent if close enough. V-Trigger: Cyclone Lariat Zangief lives up to his name “the Iron Cyclone†as he spins with high speed and velocity, pulling the opponent in close. If the player taps the V-Trigger activation buttons, Zangief will quickly spin and pull in the opponent. If the player holds the V-Trigger activation buttons, Zangief will continue to spin and hit the opponent multiple times. And that, ladies and gentlemen, wraps up Zangief. With only three characters left to reveal, you’ll want to be sure to check back in frequently to see who makes it into the next announcement. Who do you think will be next? View the full article

Hey everyone! Sorry for the delay — we’ve been pretty busy trying to get some N++ updates and bugfixes out the door for you all to enjoy, but we have hit a few unexpected snags, so these will take a bit more time. N++ on PS Store In the meantime, we are really excited to share with you some of the levels players have been making –there’s just so much creativity and ingenuity on display! For example, people are using the enemies and objects in the game in completely different ways than we intended, and the results are just fantastic. We’ll try to go into detail on what we love about these levels, but to really understand you’ll have to play them yourself. Seriously, check out these examples, then go play (and don’t stop here — there are some really amazing things in the N++ database, and this post barely scratches the surface!), and you may want to make some of your own! Ride the Lightningby Kelevra_V This level is closer to the “house style†of N++ than any of the others; it has a relatively short and easy path to basic victory, but if you want to get a high score collecting all the gold, you’re in for a much more intense challenge. One thing we’ve learned over the course of our ten years of level design experience is that different combinations of enemies produce different results, and the “Deathball + Gauss Turret†theme of this level is a really interesting mix. Deathballs are dynamic force causing you to keep moving, while turrets are static and their line-of-sight/firing rules mean that moving towards them is very dangerous. So as you play, you end up having to juggle two completely different sorts of behaviours in your mind at once, while also attempting to navigate the staple platforms/mines/gold that form the basis of the level. The tiles in particular are deceptively challenging, because the steep angle really limits your maneuverability. This all makes the payoff, when you successfully beat the level, so much more rewarding. Also, the aesthetic composition of this level is terrific: the spaces and shapes are both visually pleasing and interesting, and play really nicely. Round N Round DDAby Garaman DDA is short for “Don’t Do Anythingâ€, a type of level that was invented and perfected by the community in N and N+, and has reached new heights in N++ thanks to the new objects and enemies. They take hours to construct and tweak to perfection – we have huge respect for the dedication these level designers have. The basic premise is in the name: you just sit back watch the level play itself, Rube Goldberg-style, without needing to provide any input. These levels are incredibly thrilling and intricate, as it seems like the ninja couldn’t possibly survive! Watching the twists and turns as the level plays out is exhilarating, and a refreshingly unique change of pace from normal N++ gameplay. While there are a range of different flavours of DDA, the “rocket chasing the player through the whole level†is a staple of the genre. In this particular level, however, the classic formula receives a new twist: for much of the level, the ninja is chasing the rocket! We had never seen this done before! It demonstrates a profound mastery of the rocket AI, and is truly an incredible accomplishment. Geometry Nutby Narwhalicorn125 This level demonstrates a common feature of user-made levels: they tend to be a lot longer and more involved than the built-in levels, perhaps because they are meant to be played individually (rather than in Episodes (sets of 5) like the ones we at Metanet make). That change in context might seem small, but it has a profound influence on level design: if you want players to have a varied and dynamic experience, you have to do it all in just one screen. The strategy adopted in this level is to partition the space into 5 horizontal layers, each with its own distinct theme, feel, challenge, and difficulty level. In essence, there are 5 small levels packed into one! The focal point is the middle section, which contains an ingenious Shove-Thwump puzzle/trap: by pushing them out of your way as you move to the right, you set up a deadly pattern than you must then weave through to progress. The contrast between each section is really interesting too, from the cramped and claustrophobic top layer to the breezy, open jumps of the second-from-bottom layer. This keeps the level feeling fresh, even though it’s so lengthy. This translates into a really fun, though quite challenging, level you won’t regret playing. Apocalyptic Bridgeby Nahoj-N This level is interesting in that it combines several different ideas together in one. To start with, it’s a “picturesque†level, where the author has arranged the tiles and objects to portray a scene — in this case, a bridge in ruin. It’s also an incredibly challenging level, requiring both expert momentum control and jump-timing, as well as featuring a super-sneaky Bounceblock-glitching exploit – thankfully you only need to attempt that part if you want to collect all the gold. Unlike most of the built-in levels, this level has only a single, very precise solution: it’s definitely a puzzle/riddle for expert players. It may look simple, but building sufficient momentum to escape the bottom section is far from trivial. When you finally nail that jump, it feels really freeing and awesome. Give it a try and see for yourself! Finally, it contains a really interesting and unique feature: an “N†logo/graphic built from tiles, functioning as the signature of the author (Nahoj). That’s just cool. Someone had to…by toythatkills It would be easy to dismiss this level as pure novelty: recreating game A within game B is a fun challenge, but rarely leads to a level that’s fun to play. However, in this case, what appears to simply be a visual recreation of Pac-Man actually ends up to be a functional approximation of Pac-Man’s gameplay too! It’s not just an homage, it’s a terrifically thrilling level in its own right. Victory requires expertly manipulating the AI, directing the Deathballs around the level and avoiding being trapped by them. While the cramped paths are somewhat awkward to navigate – we at Metanet try to avoid 1-tile-wide hallways for this reason – here, this only adds to the excitement, as the pressure of slowly-creeping-closer enemies means that you usually only get a single chance at each jump. This level really impressed us, and underlined the necessity of never judging a level without playing it first So there you have it, a quick introduction to a handful of the really creative things people are making in N++. Why not give it a try yourself? NOTE: if you do use the level editor, **especially if you use the PS4’s save/resume features, please do not save more than one “in-progress†level at a time**; otherwise your save progress will be corrupted. This is a bug that our programmer is currently still working on. Thank you for your patience until it’s resolved (which will be in our first update). View the full article

Hello PlayStation Nation! All of us here at Treyarch Studios want to thank everyone that participated in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Multiplayer Beta last month. Thank you to all the PlayStation 4 players who were among the first to play the Beta. The data that we received has been invaluable as we make our final preparations for the November launch. As excited as we are about Multiplayer, we’re also working hard on Zombies and Campaign too. In fact, it’s been some time since we last spoke about the Campaign in Black Ops III on PlayStation 4*. Without a doubt, this story is the most ambitious that we’ve ever undertaken. Black Ops III engrosses players in a dark and gritty future, where a new breed of Black Ops soldier has emerged, and the lines between humanity and military technology have been blurred. You must navigate the hot spots of a new Cold War to find your missing brothers. While much has changed, one thing remains the same: everything you know may be wrong. How far down the rabbit hole are you willing to go to uncover the disturbing truth? To help show you what we mean, we wanted to give you a look at what’s in store for you coming this November: The Black Ops III campaign opens up possibilities never before seen in the franchise. Customize your character and join with up to four friends for furious online co-op action. With larger environments, overhauled AI, and full progression systems, we’ve designed the campaign to be a re-playable and evolving experience. Stay tuned for more information on the various campaign systems and features starting next week. Call of Duty: Black Ops III is set to release on November 6th. Those that pre-ordered the game on PS4 will receive the NUK3TOWN Bonus Map at launch. The fan favorite multiplayer map comes to Black Ops III in a big way, re-imagined and re-designed from the ground up to highlight the new momentum-based, chained-movement system. There’s still a lot of exciting stuff to share between now and November. We’ll be sure to check in with you all soon! *Call of Duty: Black Ops III campaign mode will be available on next-gen platforms only, including PS4. View the full article

Hello, PlayStation Fans! It’s Brian Michael Bendis, co-creator of the Powers comics and executive producer of the PlayStation Original Series, Powers. First off, thank you to everyone who enjoyed the first season of Powers; you all helped make it the most viewed show on PlayStation Network! As many of you have heard, we’re coming back for season two and all of us associated with the show couldn’t be more excited. I’ve been working hard all summer, alongside our incredible showrunner Remi Aubuchon, to make this season even better than the last. Expect more action, more powerful heroes, and more of the unique storytelling that made the Powers comics the Powers comics! (Spoiler warning: major plot points of Season 1 discussed below!) We’ve just started shooting in Atlanta this week and the energy on set has been amazing. Picking the story up where we left off last season, viewers will finally find out who killed Retro Girl and the far-reaching ramifications of her death. I don’t want to give away too much here, but the death of Powers’ most famous superhero rocks the world to its core. I’m also excited to announce a big piece of casting news. The incomparable Michael Madsen is joining the cast of Powers as SuperShock, one of the most powerful superheroes in the Powers universe! After retiring 40 years ago under mysterious circumstances, SuperShock resurfaces to fill the void left behind by Retro Girl’s death. If you know Michael’s work on amazing films like Reservoir Dogs and Donnie Brasco, you know we’re incredibly lucky to have him joining our talented cast. And that’s just one day. PlayStation Nation, get ready to be blown away this season! I will be updating you right here all production long! View the full article

Super Meat Boy will challenge even the most devoted platforming players with teeth-grinding levels, insane obstacles, horrible traps, and smiling chunks of meat. Yum! Can you stand against the gory onslaught of near-impossible tasks in Super Meat Boy? You’ll find out soon enough… Become a PlayStation Plus member If that’s a little too intense, why not point and click at things, instead? Broken Age is joining the PS Plus lineup, too! In it, guide two teenagers through strangely similar circumstances but on two different worlds. With a gorgeous soundtrack and award-winning cast, Broken Age is perfect for gamers that grew up with the adventure genre. Or people that just want to hear some jokes. Jokes are always good. Last thing! Driveclub PlayStation Plus Edition will no longer be available as a free download for Plus members starting on October 6th, 2015. If you haven’t downloaded it yet, be sure to go to PlayStation Store now before October 6th! For the full PlayStation Plus lineup this month, check the official page on PlayStation.com. (Note: the Plus page has not yet updated, so we’ve included the full lineup below. Thank you for your patience!) Full Lineup: Super Meat Boy, PS4, PS Vita Broken Age, PS4, PS Vita Unmechanical: Extended, PS4, PS3 Chariot, PS3 KickBeat, PS3, PS Vita Kung Fu Rabbit, PS3, PS Vita Before you go, we want your feedback! Please leave us a comment below and tell us what you think of the lineup. Thank you for stopping by. Until next time! Enjoy. View the full article
