  1. Every great adventure is made up of legendary tales. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection packs three thrilling adventures into one amazing collection. Nathan Drake has grown from man to legend as his story permeated our studio DNA and PlayStation lore. Here’s a glimpse of that transformation. The exchange seen here between Sully and Drake is a defining moment in the Uncharted story. Sir Francis Drake’s motto “Greatness from small beginnings†has a special place in Nathan Drake’s backstory and frames his epic journeys. He achieved greatness from humble beginnings with a lot of help along the way. Sully became a father-figure and mentor of sorts for Nate and that relationship served as a rock in the often wild, always adventurous saga that you’ll play in Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is the culmination of years of hard work at our studio that has been lovingly rebuilt by the team at Bluepoint Games. It’s incredible to watch Drake run, leap, and shoot on the PS4 with enhanced graphics and gameplay. Capturing those white-knuckle, trademark Uncharted moments has never been more fun than via the new Photo Mode tools built into the collection. Various improvements in lighting, rendering, texture mapping, and dynamic audio mean all three games are looking and sounding better than ever. New Trophies and modes such as our Explorer, Speed Run, and Brutal Modes will invite long time adventurers to replay these classics while welcoming newcomers to discover Uncharted greatness. Explorer Mode is an all-new mode for beginners where combat difficulty is reduced greatly. Speed Run Mode adds a timer that allows players to track their gameplay time against their friends as they play sections of the game. Brutal Difficulty Mode is the ultimate challenge as the gameplay will be more punishing than Crushing Difficulty (unlocked after beating Crushing Difficulty in the same game). You can even play all three single-player games in the collection as Doughnut Drake (or any one of over sixty-five other characters skins) if you’re so inclined. A lot of new polish, hard work, and love were put into making this the ultimate Uncharted collection. If you want to see what Nathan Drake and his crew are up to next, you’ll only be able to get access to the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End multiplayer beta by purchasing Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. The game arrives October 9th, 2015. Uncover the legend and pre-order today. View the full article
  2. I’m sure you’ve heard by now, but the choices you make in Until Dawn carry extreme and sometimes deadly consequences. You, the player, take on the role of eight teenagers and make snap decisions that will determine who survives. As fans of the survival horror genre, we worked with MoFilm on a short series of live action films to illustrate the gravity of the decisions you’ll be forced to make in the game. In each of these films, equal attention was focused on the exact moment the characters are faced with a tough decision, as is on the potential outcomes they must weigh. For better or worse, every action has a different consequence. The two films will explore scenarios inspired by Until Dawn. Part 1 of 2 in our mini-series is called “Choices,†and what better way to tell this story than by having the film be interactive! Without giving too much away, we set out to create a classic killer scenario that most of us have seen in other films with different outcomes. The main difference with ours is that your decision has a direct impact on the final outcome. Question is, what decisions will you make? And will you survive? The interactive experience is only compatible on your desktop From the “Choices†director, Torben: “We took our inspiration from the many choices presented in the game and from its cinematic style. We want to give the viewer a feeling of what it’s like being caught up with a killer on the loose — having to make life threatening decisions on the run. Most people can relate to watching a horror and disapprove of the decisions made by the main protagonists. Now you can actually have a say in them — and carry full responsibility if the protagonist gets away or is killed in a brutal way…†The second film takes on a darker, ominous twist on Robert Frost’s classic poem — “The Road Not Taken.†Head here to watch part two of the Mofilm series, being hosted by our partners at GameStop. From the director of “The Road Not Taken,†Lloyd Choi: “I’ve always been in love with games that you can’t play alone in the dark. The idea of creating an extended spin-off of the world around Until Dawn definitely excited me, and decided I wanted to try something a little different than the typical game trailer. “Since Until Dawn is based around the concept of choice (and the tension around it), I immediately thought of Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Takenâ€, which I thought would create an interesting tone and backdrop paired with visceral and frightening images. The poem is often misinterpreted, and is really more complex than people think. “It’s really about how no matter which direction you choose, that’s the choice you make, leading to a life lived regardless of this road or the other road. And in hindsight, that will be the only way you know and you’ll look back on that decision to take this road as meaningful and important. “But all roads are really the same. It’s not really an empowering poem of choosing your unique destiny that others haven’t taken; it’s meaning is more bleak and bittersweet. And I found that perfect for Until Dawn.†Hopefully you’ll be at peace with the choices you make in Until Dawn when it launches on August 25th! 6. I am Bread is coming to PS4 on August 25th — we’re so excited, we decided to tell you all of our deepest, darkest secrets. We already told you all about the game’s development in a previous blog post, so for this, we wanted to let you know about some little things that we hid beneath the surface of the extremely complex story of the game. When we were making I am Bread many moons ago (Okay, it seems like forever, but it was actually last year), we decided to be very clever and to hide some Easter Eggs in the game. Everyone loves them, don’t they? Come on, admit it. Sometimes though, it’s easy to miss them when you’re racing through a game. And sometimes the developers hide things so well that nobody notices. We want to make sure that when you played through it, you didn’t miss the best bits. If you don’t want spoilers, don’t scroll down. Seriously. It will ruin your day, and no one wants that. 1.) In the padded cell tutorial level, climb up to the window and move in close. You should be able to hear something rather horrifying coming from the next room. Similarly, if you return to the tutorial level after completing the game, you’ll get an even bigger surprise! Don’t blame us for the nightmares, though, we did warn you. 2.) You can probably tell from looking at pretty much every picture within the game that we like cats. Love them. I mean, who doesn’t? You’d have to be some kind of monster to not like cats. What you may not know is that the cat featured in many of the pictures is a real cat. Her name is Marge, and she belongs to Luke, designer of I am Bread. 3.) The game had a couple of other names before the final title was chosen. Its original name was ‘â€Loaf Toast.†Look in the fridge, and you can see a little memento of this that we kept. Sentimental, eh? We were also going to call the game “The Walking Bread,†but our lawyer laughed and kicked us out of his office. We used that title for a Trophy instead. 4.) We named many of the products in the game after people who work in the studio. The whisky bottle is named after our QA tester, Malford — the crest is his bass guitar. Ali’s Power-Up lager is named after Charles Ali, our developer. Uncle Jack’s Dark Ale’s name comes from Jack, our 3d Artist. Mo (developer), Murillo (another developer), Luke (designer), Oliver (nuisance/genius), and Andrew (server whiz) are also featured in the game. 5.) Players of our other games may recognize the game’s main character, and the place that the game is set. Barnardshire. Heard that before? Okay, we’ll spell it out. Mr. Murton from I am Bread is Bob from Surgeon Simulator. That arm that you see on one of the levels… well, you all know who that is. I am Bread is actually the prequel to Surgeon Simulator. If you look closely, you can see all kinds of little references to this. 6.) Zero Gravity mode was originally a bug… but we liked it so much, we turned it into a feature. Aren’t all of the best games made that way? 7.) There is an alternate ending to the petrol station level when you beat it in zero g mode. You will love it. Especially if you’re geeky like us. 8.) I am Bread is actually based on a true story. Seriously. One of these may not be true… can you guess which one? View the full article

  8. Hey PlayStation gamers, Simon here from Spearhead Games! I thought I would give you all a glimpse into the project our small Montreal-based studio has been working on. For the last few months, we’ve been putting together a game called Stories: The Hidden Path. Stories is an action-RPG set in a vibrant universe filled with floating islands, majestic airships, and flamboyant magic. Our hero is Reynardo, a sky corsair in a bit of a bind. As the sole survivor of the vanguard, he is the last line of defense against the mighty imperial armada about to overtake the entire realm. Reynardo fights against impossible odds, knowing that the fate of everything he holds dear rests on his shoulders. We’re building Stories to feel like an enchanted book with a different tale to tell each time you open it. Every choice you make in the game affects the storyline in real-time, and the narrator adapts his tale dynamically to reflect your course of action. With beautiful illustrations at every turn of the page, Stories will have you diving deeper into the narrative nuances each time you play. We want to make Stories more than a traditional action-RPG, so we’re crafting a fresh storytelling system that we think will bring extra charm — and maybe even a few surprises — to our newest title. We’re super-proud of how the game is turning out and very excited to share more with you all in the coming months. If you’re attending PAX Prime, swing by booth #6912 to try out Stories: The Hidden Path! View the full article
  9. When we first started working on Adventures of Pip, we knew we had something great but didn’t know how we were going to get the game funded and have it see the light of day. We worked on it every chance we got. Marc Gomez (Game Designer) and Cathy Camacho (Senior Producer) were busy with two other projects; Garth Smith (Lead Programmer) would work on the prototype whenever he had downtime. Over time it became clear that without a dedicated team the project would never get done. It would have been a huge shame since it was a problem of finances and not of fun factor. We ran an initial Kickstarter but didn’t succeed. It wasn’t until our second Kickstarter that the community really embraced the game, and we started to see how Pip could come to life. Coverage from Game Grumps/Steam Train gave us a huge lift in backers. Another way that we boosted our Kickstarter campaign was by teaming up with other developers. Graphite Lab (Hive Jump), One More Level (Warlocks), and Alonso Martin (Heart Forth Alicia) all linked arms with us, and that mutual support helped all of us hit our goals. It didn’t hurt that old friends from WayForward and Yacht Club Games reached out on Twitter to their backers as well. With the help of 2,578 backers, we exceeded our Kickstarter goal! That allowed us to add more muscle to the team. We brought on classic gaming programmer and former CTO of Left Field Productions, James Higgins to manage the ports and Assistant Director of Shantae & the Pirate’s Curse, Jeff Luke, to lead level design. We also brought on Eddie Moreno and Eleazar Del Rosario of WayForward to beef up the art team. With all these powerhouses, we were ready to kick some butt! We always wanted to play Pip on PS4 but we initially didn’t think it would be possible because we didn’t have dev kits. When the community spoke up and really pushed for PS4 support, we knew we at least had to try, so we added PS4 to our stretch goals. Amazingly, Sony reached out to us to assist. We were blown away by their generosity. Even more, Sony invited us to PlayStation Experience. We were right across the aisle from our friends at Yacht Club Games and shared outlets with Young Horses (Octodad). As people stopped by to play Pip, we could see what they liked and didn’t like about the game. We used that feedback to improve the game, and we were glad that the community wasn’t shy about sharing their opinion. With the all the hard work from the team and the support from both our Kickstarter community and Sony, we’re proud to announce that Adventures of Pip will be available to download on August 18th on PS4. We have also been selected to showcase the game in the PAX 10 booth at this year’s PAX Prime event in Seattle. We couldn’t have achieved this dream without the enthusiasm and generous support of the community. With Adventures of Pip becoming our first PS4 title, we just can’t wait to get it in the hands of the community that helped us bring this game to life. Hope to see you at PAX! View the full article

  11. Möther Fafnir! Zombie Vikings is part of Vote to Play! You know what that means, right? It’s time for us to charm your asses off. If you don’t know about us, we’re Zoink, an indie studio from the west coast of Sweden. You might have heard about our previous title — Stick It to The man. At Zoink, we usually end our weeks with our traditional Pizza Friday, and maybe that’s why we decided to create what we call a “Pizza and beer game.†The last year and a half, ten little Zoink devs have worked crazy hard to create the awesome 1-4 player story brawler that is Zombie Vikings. Because of this, you will soon be able to take a cruise through the intestines of the Midgaard Serpent and fight giant poultry in a 30 level, stab-you-in-the-gut-athon stuffed with 40 unlockable weapons. Quite neat (but at the same time icky), huh? This is what we’re thinking — games are the most fun played together, and with that we don’t just mean having your characters appear on the same screen. Oh no. We’ve created a bunch of ways to interact with your friends! Like building a tower of Vikings, stitching yourselves together to one giant Mega Zombie, or picking each other up with a quick stab in the butt. Since you’re a Zombie, the last one doesn’t hurt (at least we don’t think so). If you’re still not convinced that voting for us is the best idea since ice cream stuffed with cookie dough, here are a couple of other reasons! Single player and online/offline multiplayer! Hilarious writing by Zach Wienersmith, author of SMBC! Collectable Viking Runes. Gain new cool abilities and mix up your style of play! 5 versus arenas for the times when co-op just feels too nice! So vöte för üs! If we win and get super famous and rich, we’ll invite you all for a huge smorgasbord, complete with Swedish fermented herring and Dala horse decorations. So burst out from your grave, grab a can of lukewarm Berzerker™and join the most epic hackfest of the first millennium! View the full article
  12. Grow Home is coming to PS4 on September 1st. Yay! Even better, you get to decide if it’s going to be free for all Playstation Plus members as we’re featured in the new “Vote to Play†campaign. We’d love your vote, and we’re excited to know what you think of it! Developing the game has been a real adventure for us. It actually started as an experiment in procedural animation, but even in the early stages we could see a unique charm and personality coming from the way our character moved. The more we tinkered, the more we felt compelled to try and build a game around it. At Reflections, we’re used to working on big team, big budget, high-profile titles. Creating a smaller game like this was very new to us, so we had to take a different approach. A tiny team of eight set about building a game we could share with Ubisoft staff around the world — we wanted to prove that we had something fun instead of promise it. The game spread internally, quickly reaching the desktops of top management who jumped on board giving us the go-ahead to officially launch it. Grow Home is the story of BUD, a Botanical Utility Droid sent on a quest across the galaxy to seek out a new species of flora to help oxygenate his home world. He finds the perfect specimen in the Star Plant. BUD’s mission is to grow it to maturity and harvest the seeds it produces, resulting in a towering two-kilometer-high bridge from the ground to his space ship. Along the way you’ll explore floating islands, encounter strange plants and unusual animals. The Star Plant is a living thing, so growing and steering it is quite a wild ride. The shape it takes is all up to you, as you grow your own playground in the sky. Using BUD’s hands, you’ll push, pull, and grab onto objects, as well as climb. Grabbing with the left and right trigger buttons brings a unique feel to how you interact with the world, especially the climbing which can be very physical and perilous — you get a real sense of vertigo and you’re acutely aware of the long drop below you! As you make your way toward the sky, you’ll discover other ways of getting around faster. That’s where discoveries like the teleportation pads, bouncing leaves, flower parachutes and leaf glider come in. It might be safer to grow and climb everywhere, but once you have a glider or parachute to use if you fall then you’ll begin to push yourself to take bigger and bolder risks — jumping, bouncing, gliding, and falling with confidence. We wanted to challenge how we make games at Ubisoft Reflections. Grow Home has given us a chance to experiment on a much smaller scale than we’re used to. It’s a project born out of our passion for games and a determination to do things differently. We feel we’ve created a beautiful and intriguing world that invites you to climb that next ledge and see what new surprises you’ll find. We hope you enjoy the adventure! View the full article
  13. Hey guys and gals! Trent Kusters here from League of Geeks. We’re huge tabletop fans here at LoG, and Armello is our passion project to bring board games to life in the medium we know best: video games. With the stunning world we’ve created, bringing that experience to console was something we just couldn’t resist, and so surely there’s no better way than to mark our arrival on PS4 with PlayStation Vote to Play! Set in a vibrant, magical world with a tinge of darkness, Armello thrusts players into a Game of Thrones-esque struggle for power in epic single or multiplayer action. Players take on the role of a Hero from one of the four animal clans and navigate their character across the procedurally generated board as they quest, scheme, explore, vanquish monsters, perform the Mad King’s royal edicts, and face off against other players, with one ultimate end goal in mind — storming the palace and becoming King or Queen of Armello. You’ll start your turn in your clan grounds and traverse the board with a set number of action points for each turn to spend on moving their character from tile to tile. Each tile presents different consequences including exploring a dungeon, gaining or losing health, claiming a settlement for your own, or granting stealth. With more than 100 beautifully animated and illustrated cards, you can cast spells, recruit followers, uncover ancient treasures, and execute treacherous plots as you quest for the throne! There are four ways to win in Armello. Combat — Slaying the king and surviving the confrontation. Prestige Victory — Having the most Prestige when the King dies, whether from his afflictions (the King loses health every dawn) or dying in combat with the attacking player also not surviving the battle. Prestige is gained by completing heroic deeds such as killing other players, vanquishing banes, or completing quests. Spirit Stone Collection — magical Spirit Stones can be found throughout Armello. If a player collects four, they can use them to assist the King in passing in peace, restoring balance to Armello. Rot Victory — players who defeat the King in combat whilst having more Rot than him (and live to tell the tale) will win the game and shroud Armello in darkness. We’re convinced you’ll love Armello. It’s something we’ve been pouring our heart and soul (and bank accounts) into for over four years now. All that time we’ve been heavily focused on creating something that not just speaks to that nostalgia we all share for great board games and tales of adventure, but breaks new ground as a contemporary video game. Easy to Play, Hard to Master — Armello is an intuitive game, easy to pick up and experience but with deep and emergent strategy. Dynamic Sandbox — Armello features a gorgeous dynamic world which procedurally generates a new map each and every game, complete with a dynamic quest system ensuring no two games of Armello are ever the same. Multiple Playable Heroes — Full release will include 8 playable Heroes. Each unique Hero possesses a unique power, stat spread, and AI personality. Also heroes can be customized with Amulet and Signet Ring load-outs to match your play style or counter opponents’ strategies. Fast & Thoughtful — Adventuring in Armello is fast-paced fun, filled with deadly tactical and politically complex decisions requiring careful forethought and planning. Turn-Based Day & Night Cycle — Armello features a fuzzy turn-based system, cycling between Day and Night phases. The fuzzy turns allow you to still play cards and do certain actions when it’s not your turn, and when it is you use Action Points to move around the hex board. World Class Music & Audio — By Michael Allen, internationally acclaimed artist Lisa Gerrard, and Jacek Tuschewski. Animated Cards — Armello will feature over a 120+ beautifully animated in-game Cards, from artists all over the world. True Tabletop Feel — We painstakingly cherry-picked the best parts of the tabletop experience, like our custom physics-based dice! We like to say that Armello is “Kung-Fu Panda meets Game of Thrones,†but really it’s mostly just a treacherous board game that’ll see you destroy friendships on your way to the throne! If board games, RPGs or turn-based strategy games are your thing, we can’t wait to hear what you think of Armello. <3, Trent and the LoG Crew View the full article
  14. Hello again, everyone! It’s Dan, Harry, and Josh from Calvino Noir. Last time we were on Playstation.Blog we chatted about the game launching on PS4, and the characters. We’re back to talk about the voice acting which brings Wilt, Siska, and Arno to life… and to announce the official release date on PS4! We just wrapped up the final session of voice recording at SIDE studios. We recorded professional actors in their studio in London, and the process was fascinating. Anthony Howell (Wilt), Wolf Kahler (Arno, Bartender), and John Bowe (Narrator) were finishing their lines up during 9 hours over 3 days of voice acting. With the previous sessions that we’d done that adds up to around 29 hours of voice recording sessions! We are lucky to be working with Howell (Dragon Age: Inquisition), and Kahler (Colonel Dietrich, Raiders of the Lost Ark). While you are moving around in Calvino Noir’s levels, the characters that you control will have conversations. This is where most of our narrative happens. Sneaking into a secure location to grab secret documents creates discussions. They talk about what the implications of what is happening, how it relates to the other things you’ve found, and builds the lore of our 1930s noir world. Getting the balance of telling people what they need to know and exploring the relationships of the characters is challenging, but our writer Dr. Dejan Levi built our 12,000 word narrative around his own mix of classical noir and more recent cultural influences. Our editor, neo-noir author Craig Clevenger made a final pass. In true film noir fashion, we have a poetic narrator describing the details of the scenes around you. The game takes a zoomed out view of the buildings you’re in to show off the dramatic architecture we’ve worked on, but to fill in those small details the charming voice of John Bowe describes the surroundings. The sounds, smells, and feel of these moments in time reflect the state of the story and are something we couldn’t describe any other way. There have been a lot of games that use large amounts of text to tell stories and they’ve been great. It’s nice to invent a character’s voice in your own head but that can be a vague representation of what they’re feeling in the moment. Our talented actors make an impression with their emotional performances. We are excited to see our film noir story come to life when it launches on August 25th! View the full article
  15. Hi everyone, Marcus from SideQuest Studios here. I’m happy to be back and share some news about our upcoming RPG Rainbow Skies. After listening to a lot of fan feedback, we are happy to announce that we are now also developing Rainbow Skies for PS4. We plan to release Rainbow Skies with cross save support for all current PlayStation platforms (PS4, PS3, PS Vita) in the second half of 2016. For those of you who missed out on our previous game, we are pleased to confirm that we will also be re-releasing Rainbow Moon on PS4 sometime in 2016. I know that a lot of our fans are eagerly awaiting news on Rainbow Skies, so I would like to give you an insight into some of the progress to the story system we have made in recent months. Rainbow Skies has an increased emphasis on storytelling, writing, character backgrounds, and acting, so players can expect a more interesting and well-crafted plot that features many twists and turns along the way. The complex background story consists of multiple, interwoven narratives, told with easy-to-read dialogue that’s entertaining and, in the case of certain characters, extremely funny. Along with enlisting the help of a dedicated story and script writer, the original monologue system from Rainbow Moon has been replaced by a more complex dialogue system. Up to four characters can speak simultaneously which leads to much more lively conversations. We have also implemented numerous new animations, emoticons, and conversation-specific icons that help convey the feelings and moods that our heroes undergo during their journey. Trust me, they’ll be very emotional! We have also created several short cutscenes, we call “action clips,†which are played when players reach certain checkpoints in the story that focus on specific actions, characters or objects. Action clips don’t contain text or conversations, but they do help in explaining the current situation, introduce new game elements or simply act as a way to spice up in game events. After releasing Rainbow Moon we received a lot of feedback that players wanted an increased emphasis on storytelling and we believe that players will be pleased with the new story system in Rainbow Skies. For those of you that prefer to focus on the gameplay, rest assured all conversations can be skipped at any time. A detailed log system keeps track of every single mission and sub-task, including a short reminder about your next objective so you don’t have to worry about missing any vital information or events. This makes it very easy to pick up where you left off, even after taking a longer break from the game. I would love to post more updates in the near future, but for now I’m back off to continue working on Rainbow Skies, and hope that many of you will be excited to play it in 2016. For more frequent updates, you can subscribe to our Rainbow Skies newsletter or follow us on Facebook or Twitter. If you have any questions or feedback, please let me know in the comments below. 16. If you’ve been waiting to find out what happens in the penultimate episode of Tales from the Borderlands, you won’t be waiting much longer! Episode 4: Escape Plan Bravo is set for release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 on Tuesday, August 18th. Today we can show you a few all-new screenshots from the episode for a little peek at what’s coming up. Between psychos, spaceships, and a certain diamond gun-pooping pony, there’s a lot packed into this one! We certainly left our unlikely heroes in a precarious position at the end of the last episode. After being captured by Vallory and her goons at the end of Episode 3, Rhys and Fiona are now forced to continue the search for the Vault beacon – at gunpoint. The beacon is on the Hyperion moon base (Helios), while our heroes are on Pandora… so there’s the pesky cold void of death known as ‘space’ to overcome. Even with assistance from a familiar face, and with a worryingly helpful Handsome Jack hitching a ride in Rhys’ head, getting on board the ominous ‘H’ is going to take every drop of guile, and quite possibly all the spunk you’ve got. One last thing: sacrifices will be made, so we hope you’re ready to make the tough choices needed to succeed… As ever, thank you for reading, and we’d love to read your speculation in the comments below! 19. Hey folks. A few weeks ago we announced that Goat Simulator was coming to PS4 and PS3, and now that launch day is here. We wanted to share our trailer with you! If there is any doubt out there about what Goat Simulator is about, you could read our last blog post, or you could just watch our trailer and let the classical music wash over you as the chaos unfolds. There are many qualities that can make a good game: awesome visuals, responsive controls, tight gameplay, rich background stories and characters… there’s so much choice today; almost too much. Goat Simulator gives you the alternative you’ve been seeking — a bug-filled experience where you get to be a goat who wrecks stuff. Add three friends for local co-op on PS4, or just your best friend on PS3. Simple. No complications, just a simple, goat-tastic gaming experience that allows you to cause more chaos than any goat has ever been able to… until now. Cause chaos on the sunny streets of GoatVille as a number of different Goats. Be Classy Goat (a penguin). Be Tall Goat (a giraffe) or Giant Goat (a whale), be whatever you want to be as long as it’s one of a number of predefined Goats we’ve created from existing wildlife! Set fire to things (and people), fly through outer space and latch onto helicopters, and other fun stuff with that insanely long tongue. Oh, and one more thing. This is the first version of Goat Simulator to include GoatVR and we’re really excited to share this with you. The simulated GoatVR experience is so close to actually having a headset on that we expect a lot of players to instinctively reach to remove the headset after a game session, even though they never put one on in the first place! Thanks for reading and hope you’ll give it a try! View the full article
  20. Today, we’re pleased to announce the games that will be part of Vote to Play — our special promotion that enables PlayStation Plus members to vote on one of three PlayStation 4 games for next month’s PS Plus game lineup. All three of these games would be a great addition to our lineup, and we want to put the choice in your hands when voting begins on Thursday, August 13th. Without further ado, here are the games on the ballot. Armello A grim fairy-tale board game come to life, combining deep, tactical card play, rich tabletop strategy, and RPG elements. Set in a vibrant magical world with a tinge of darkness, Armello thrusts players into an epic struggle for power as they quest, scheme, explore, vanquish monsters, perform the mad king’s royal edicts, and face off against other players, with one ultimate end goal in mind — storming the palace and becoming King or Queen of Armello. Grow Home You play BUD (Botanical. Utility. Droid), a robot on a mission to find the Star Plant and save his planet. Discover a strange open-world: a planet of floating islands, with precipitous drops, caves and waterfalls to navigate, all rendered in a minimalist but beautiful art style. Grow the giant Star Plant and use your unique climbing abilities to reach ever higher ground, but be careful as you ascend because one wrong move and it’s a long way down! Zombie Vikings From the creators of last year’s indie hit Stick It to The Man! comes a new co-op, four-player stab-you-in-the-gut-a-thon with a dead-funny adventure. Hack through the boiling gingerbread swamps of Molgaga, take a cruise through the intestines of the Midgaard Serpent, fight giant troll poultry, and find out how Söccer was really invented. Voting starts Thursday, August 13th at 8:30 AM Pacific and ends Monday, August 24th, at 8:30 AM Pacific. The final result will be revealed after voting closes. If you’re a PS Plus member and you want to cast your vote, simply log on to PS4 with your PSN account, and access Vote to Play under “What’s New,†“Notifications,†or visit the PS Plus section of the PlayStation Store, where you’ll find details for Vote to Play. The game with the most votes will automatically be included in our September free game lineup, and PlayStation Plus members can get the two runners-up at a discount. We can’t wait to see what PlayStation Plus members decide for September in our first Vote to Play event. We’ll have more events in the future, so stay tuned. You can find more information about Vote to Play here, along with the benefits of being a PlayStation Plus member. So tell us, what game are you planning to vote for? View the full article
  21. Welcome to the end of the world. Nearly three years ago, we started work on a game. The plan was to take the story-driven exploration of Dear Esther and push it into an open-world setting, to create a game where you discovered a story, rather than had it told to you. We wanted this story to be about the end of the world, about a small English valley and its people, about what it means to be alive. We could talk for hours about all of the changes the game went through to become the thing you’re about to play. We started with a time-locked game that only lasted sixty minutes each playthrough. We had puzzles; we had branching narratives. But as we went on making it, each of those just felt like gimmicks. We had players come back to us after testing and consistently say the same thing: they just wanted to be in Yaughton Valley finding the story, and everything else just took them away from that. And fundamentally, that’s what Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is all about — being in the world. Games spin worlds better than anything else. You just can’t get that sense of place, of space and time, of being there, in any other medium. It’s what makes them so amazing to build — you can take all of this stuff: pixels and shapes, soundwaves, musical notation, words and voices, and a whole load of lines of code, and jam it into this box and then out of the other end arrives this rich, deep, amazing, complicated, beautiful world that you can just dive into and walk around and explore. That’s just extraordinary, and it’s an incredible thing to be able to make and share. One of the most rewarding things about the response to Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture so far has been people coming back and saying that Yaughton feels like somewhere they grew up in, or know, or visited. That’s amazing. That means we’ve done our jobs properly. If you believe in Yaughton, then the game is working, because it puts the story in context. Alongside that, the way people are engaging with the characters in the story is great — and this means people care, and that’s what the game is all about. Way back last year, when we first showed Rapture at E3, we said that the only fail state in the game is if people don’t care. From what we’re hearing back, it seems like we’ve succeeded. Just like Yaughton, people are coming back and saying Wendy reminds them of their grandmother, or they had a friend like Rachel, or fell in love with a Lizzie or a Rhys, or remember Jeremy or Charlie from being a kid. That’s a testament to the amazing actors who worked on this game, but it also means we’ve done what we wanted and created a believable community of real people that you really care about. We’ve got a small team of incredibly talented, passionate developers here who have poured heart and soul into the game and we think you can see that clearly in what they’ve made. It’s not just a game that looks and sounds beautiful, it’s got something really special in its core; a real belief in making something different, in taking those risks. We’ve been told a few times by different people over the last couple of years that making an open-world game with a team this size is crazy. We’ve been told that there’s nowhere new left to go for story-driven games; that it’s just going to be variations on Dear Esther and Gone Home now. We’ve been told that players just won’t get how non-linear the story is, and won’t have the patience or commitment to go exploring in Yaughton Valley without being explicitly guided around or pushed into linear missions. You know what? Those people are just plain wrong. Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture was a leap of faith, but we believed this team could do it; we believed that there’s always ways you can take a genre and push it forwards in new and interesting ways, and we believed that players are smart and love nothing more than getting into a world and exploring it. The bottom line is that we believe that right now this is the most exciting and creative medium on the planet and we’re really proud to be a part of that. Above all, we think there’s a great story at the heart of Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture and that’s something we want to share. There’s amazing art, fantastic voice-acting, a quite simply astonishing soundtrack, and they all come together to make something we hope is pretty unique and special. We genuinely hope you love it. Thanks for playing. Dan & Jess Studio Heads, The Chinese Room View the full article
  22. Ah, adventurers! Welcome! I am Morak, the only wizard powerful enough to have summoned the Gauntlet. I have seen the likes of you many times. For decades I have held the Gauntlet, watching bones of fools past turn into dust. Let’s see if you stay alive any longer than those that came before. You’re not scared, are you? Welcome then, to the stage of your deaths! You have not seen what new horrors lurk in the darkness below. In our previous blog posts we’ve outlined some of the improvements coming with Gauntlet: Slayer Edition. For a number of months we have been working hard to shape the game into what we fully envisioned and today we are proud and excited to get to share the experience with you. Today Gauntlet: Slayer Edition is available to purchase from PlayStation store for $19.99. You can become one of the courageous adventurers that take their chances braving the Gauntlet. Since the first launch in 2014, Gauntlet has received many improvements. The key points we have addressed are Hero depth, gameplay variation, and overall richer visuals. Below you can find a full list of all the new features and updates to existing ones. ABILITIESNew Hero Weapon Abilities and Customization Heroes can now change their special abilities (the ones represented by the big shiny icon in your HUD with a cooldown) by equipping different weapons. Each Hero has a total of four weapons that alter their abilities. For the Warrior and Valkyrie this means swapping out their Special Ability (Spin attack & Shield Throw) for another type of attack. For the Necromancer this means swapping out her summoning ability for another one (like summon archers or summon ghosts). For the Elf, this means giving him two new abilities — a new bomb, as well as a new bomb shot ability. For the Wizard, this means swapping out one of his schools of magic (fire, lightning, or ice) for another one, giving him three new abilities. New Unique Potion Abilities for each Hero All Heroes start with one potion ability unique to them, and can unlock two more in the shop (this replaces one of the Relic-slots, so players can now only carry one Relic). Potion abilities are massive, high-impact abilities that can turn the tide of battle in your favor. More use of Relics Relics no longer cost potions to use, but are instead limited by a cooldown. This means that players get to use their relic more often, making them a bigger part of how you play. The functionality of some relics has been changed, for balancing-and-fun reasons. MONSTERSNew Monster Types There are a couple of new Monster types lurking in the Gauntlet. Improved Monster Visuals, Audio and Abilities Several monsters have gotten updated models, textures, and animations, as well as updated abilities and changes to behaviour. GAME MODE FEATURESNew Game Mode: Endless A mode where you fight your way through procedurally generated floors, trying to get as far (and as rich) as you can. Colosseum Becomes a Daily Challenge There will be one Colosseum arena available to play at any given time. It changes every day, and each arena has a cape that can be unlocked by beating it, as well as a gold reward for beating it for the first time that day. These will still be the same arenas as the old Colosseum and the same Capes, giving new players a chance to earn the Capes from past seasons. New Campaign Map The Hub Room has been replaced by a Campaign Map, letting players choose freely between levels that they have unlocked. Improved Environment Visuals Campaign levels and procedural floors have had major art improvements, making environments more varied and diverse. New Loadout / Shop The in-game Shop has been replaced by a Loadout in the Lobby / Character Select Screen. This allows all four local players to customize their Heroes simultaneously and streamlines customization to be included in all game modes. Difficulty Rebalancing Reduced number of difficulty settings from four to three (removed the easiest difficulty, leaving the old “Hard†difficulty as the new “Normalâ€). There are now Skull Coins to find and pick up in the levels. Now we’re really looking forward to joining you in the dungeons, watching your struggles and success, and finally being able to share our game with the PlayStation audience. Come and Invade the Darkness with us! View the full article

  24. Every time we start developing a new game, we remember a powerful experience that we had with video games in our childhood and try capture it and make it part of our game. In the case of Curses ‘N Chaos, it’s about going to an arcade with a friend and joining forces to face that weird, hardcore, single-screen, fantasy, sci-fi mashup action game — and come out victorious! Well, at Tribute Games we’re in our 30s (We’re pretty old!), so we lived through the golden age of the arcades. Curses ‘N Chaos is a tribute to that era and it’s meant to allow all 21st century boys and girls, as well as older gamers, to have as much fun as we had playing those great games. Punching ‘N KickingAt its core, Curses ‘N Chaos plays like a classic arcade game. You pick your character (Lea or Leo), pick a level, and start punching and kicking monsters solo or cooperatively. What’s special about the combat is that in addition to the smooth controls and lightning quick responsiveness, you have a huge arsenal of items at your disposal. In fact, enemies drop tons of items, so no need to hoard them! Use your items liberally, overcome all waves of enemies, and defeat the bosses! A Recipe for SuccessThere is, however, a somewhat modern concept present in Curses ‘N Chaos. This “modern†game mechanic is called Alchemy! In between levels, you meet Allison, a young and ambitious alchemist accompanying Lea and Leo on their quest. Give her a bit of gold earned during fights and she’ll combine items for you to create better ones. In Curses ‘N Chaos, cooking items is going to make you stronger and give you better chances of winning. Even though Allison doesn’t make gold (she keeps it all for herself), her alchemy really is a recipe for success. Want to know more about Allison? Read the Curses ‘N Chaos prologue comic book on our blog! Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Break the Curse, End the Chaos! We’re proud to announce that Curses ‘N Chaos will be available on August 18th! It’s a cross buy title on PS4 and PS Vita, and it features cross play and cross save. We sincerely hope you enjoy Curses ‘N Chaos! Even though it looks like a small game, a lot of craftsmanship went into it. It features top pixel art by Justin Cyr, Stéphane Boutin, and Paul Robertson, and super polished gameplay! If you want to know more, check out the Curses ‘N Chaos website. If you have questions, I’ll be available to reply in the comments section below! View the full article
