  1. It’s hard to believe that it’s been 8 months since TowerFall Ascension launched on PS4. I have to thank all of our wonderful fans on PlayStation — the community response has been fantastic. Since launching TowerFall, we’ve had countless requests for new levels, characters, power-ups, and modes. A lot of your suggestions have been really valuable, and after I recovered from the game’s launch back in March, I began forming new ideas of my own. Slowly but surely, our plans for an expansion took shape. I’m excited to announce that the Dark World Expansion will hit PS4 in early 2015. We want to call this an expansion rather than DLC, because it expands the game in every direction rather than providing small incremental additions. Approaching it this way allows us to tie all the new stuff together in a very cohesive manner. For you this means more playable archers, levels, modes, power-ups, variants, trials, and more. Joining the roster we have the red archer, the Vainglorious Ghoul. As her appearance suggests, she captains an infamous ghost ship known as The Amaranth. The Amaranth, it turns out, is also one of four new level sets in the expansion. These new locations are spread across the Dark World, a twisted reality parallel to the TowerFall world you’re familiar with. The final tower, Cataclysm, uses procedurally generated levels to make sure every match is unique and surprising. And then we have the new power-ups, such as Trigger Arrows, which behave like remote mines. Stick them to walls or ceilings in clever positions, wait for the perfect moment, and detonate when your opponents least expect it. Or the otherworldly Prism Arrows that lock your enemies in magical prisons so they have nowhere to hide. These are a few highlights from our work so far. If you want to keep up on development and read about everything we’ve added, check out the TowerFall blog where we’re posting regular updates on the expansion. We’re already having a blast playtesting these additions — they open doors to countless new ways to trick your friends, and countless, more hilarious outcomes. With so much excellent community feedback, we have a great handle on what players love about TowerFall, and see this as the perfect opportunity to push the game to its limits. I’ll be at PlayStation Experience in Vegas next month, taking all challengers as we demo the Dark World Expansion for attendees. See you there! View the full article
  2. Hey again, Playstation.Blog pals! I’m Dan Teasdale, and I’m one half of semi-new indie studio No Goblin. I’m super excited to announce that Panzer and I have been busy bringing Roundabout to both PS4 and PS Vita! What’s Roundabout? It’s a ’70s B-Movie game where you get to drive a constantly spinning limousine. As famed revolving limousine driver Georgio Manos, you’ll drive around the open world of Roundabout picking up passengers, finding collectibles, competing in challenges, buying hats, and much more! We’re using a cutting edge next-gen technique called “full motion video†to recreate and render each passenger that rides in Georgio’s limo with lifelike accuracy. We’re doing a ton of special stuff for the PS4 and PS Vita versions. We’re remastering all of the FMV in high-bitrate 1080p to take advantage of the PS4′s horsepower! The PS Vita version is no slouch, either — in fact, it’s the same full experience that you’d experience on console. We’re supporting cross play, cross buy, and really anything else that we can find that starts with the word “cross.†Panzer and I will be bringing both the PS4 and PS Vita versions of Roundabout to PlayStation Experience next month. If you’re attending, be sure to come over to the No Goblin booth, say hi, and check out Roundabout! Can’t wait until PlayStation Experience to find out more? Post your questions below and I’ll do my best to answer them! View the full article
  3. Gun Media and SuperSoul are proud to announce their first title for PS4: Speakeasy, an engaging, local-multiplayer party game that blends rock-paper-scissors with the styles and sounds of 1920′s Roarin’ America! What makes Speakeasy so great is that it will bring you and up to 15 of your friends together in a party game that keeps you engaged from the moment you pick it up. While it might look like a fighter on the outside, Speakeasy is an incredibly simple to learn, but difficult to master game that will require you to match wits with your opponent, who happens to be standing right next to you. Each player will take on the role of a fighter vying for the Fisticuffs League Champion crown! The rules are simple: land one punch to win, but be warned, you only get one punch, one block and one fake each round. And with each round lasting only 10 seconds, you must choose your moves wisely. To liven things up, you will be able to choose from multiple fighters vying for the championship. From characters inspired by famous celebrities and personalities of the 1920s, each fighter will also come with multiple costumes, props, and unlockables that will personalize each fighter to every player’s desire. Duke it out as the Bare-Knuckle Brawler Richard Slugging or the High-Flying Amelia Airborne! Astound and amaze your opponents as the Electrifying Nikola Volt or chop your opponents asunder as the Temperate Carrie Hatchet. Play it smooth as the Jazz Legend Barrelhouse Jones, or relax a while as the Melancholy Charlie the Tramp. Though the fight may seem simple from the get-go, the challenge gets a bit tougher when you switch up the game modes; Speakeasy will have 2′s and 3′s, which allows each player to use each move two or three times each match. Keep in mind though; it only takes one successful punch to win. Switching things up even more, Tag Team will pit teams of fighters against one another with a variety of settings that will keep things lively. King of the Hill will allow for up to four players to duke it out at the same time! You’ll have to be quick on your toes to remain King of the Hill though, as matches will continue on without interruption until the timer runs out. Not content with just a few friends? Speakeasy will also feature tournament support, allowing up to 16 competitors in a variety of settings. Each and every player will also be able to customize each fighter with a slew of costumes, props, and gizmos to make each fighter their own. Speakeasy isn’t all that it seems, though… Gameplay and trophies will lead to tons of unlockables for your bouts; crazy antics, tons of droppable items, and even gameplay altering effects will be yours to customize and explore to bring a whole new experience to the game. Are you ready to find out who the Fisticuffs League Champion is among you and your friends? Find out soon on PS4. View the full article
  4. With Spelunky finally making its glorious PS4 debut last month – hopefully you were able to grab it free in PlayStation Plus while it lasted! – there are more explorers than ever plumbing the depths of the jungle, battling incensed shopkeepers, and dying in an endless cavalcade of unexpected and hilarious ways. For those new players still feeling overwhelmed, be sure to check out my Survival Guide from last year; a few basic tips go a long way, and the experience is even more fun when you’re sharing tactics and stories of your travels with friends. Speaking of sharing, you may have noticed that the PS4 has a few killer new features, including the ability to watch full replays of anyone’s Daily Challenge run straight from the leaderboards, as well as seeing where your friends died (and what killed them) in the Daily Challenge, represented by their ghost. I’m thrilled to be able to announce that those features have been added to the PS3 and PS Vita versions, available now via a free update! Not only that, but all three versions have also been updated to allow you to fast-forward Daily Challenge replays (with a very cool VHS-style effect, no less), as well as a few minor fixes including synchronization of LAN multiplayer. Finally, Vita has always secretly been the coolest version since you can play without a tethered camera in multiplayer, and this update also contains full PlayStation TV support for up to four players! To recap the updates that are live now (note that you’ll only see the replay changes starting with tomorrow’s run, which rolls over at 4pm PST today): PS4: Fast forward replays Misc. fixes PS3: Leadboard replays (including fast forward feature) Friend ghosts in Daily Challenge Misc. fixes PS Vita: Leadboard replays (including fast forward feature) Friend ghosts in Daily Challenge Four-player PSTV support Misc. fixes Good luck, fellow adventurer! 5. If you haven’t been hiding under a rock for the last 2-3 years, you’ll have noticed that there’s an underground movement in the world of video games: indies. Versus Evil is an indie publisher who has been lucky enough to partner with several talented, passionate indie studios to help them launch their “babies†into the big, wide, rabid world of gamers. Yes, that’s YOU lot! We are beyond excited to tell you about a few games that will be coming to the PS4 in early 2015. Each one is unique in its own right. ArmikrogThis is just a really weird way to make a game, but it works! From the original game creators of Earthworm Jim and the Neverhood, comes a point and click adventure…wait for it… stop motion clay animation video game (Try and say that 10 times quickly!). Supported by a quirky but quite mesmerizing original soundtrack from Terry Taylor, Armikrog will throw you into a rich, colorful world packed with lovable oddball characters and a lot of toilet humor. The Banner SagaThe quality bar has been set! With several awards already under its belt and a second chapter already in the works, this indie hit is making its way to PS4. If you like turn based strategy games or Vikings (or both) and appreciate stunning, old-school style 2D animation, this is definitely worth checking out. It’s a classic and one that has made a mark in video game history already. Kyn(Pronounced “Kinâ€) It’s hard to imagine that two guys from Holland put this tactical RPG together in just two years, by themselves! But they did, and it’s a big world of magic, colliding with Viking themes and hours upon hours of adventuring. All I can say is: just be nice to the sheep. TorenFrom fledgling Brazilian indie studio Swordtales comes a dark fantasy adventure in which you have to guide a lonely child as she climbs the tower known as Toren. It’s a beautiful game with puzzles and treacherous enemies to defeat. Your inner “protective instincts†will certainly be played on as you help Moonchild survive the journey from baby to adolescent. All four of these indies will be playable for the first time ever at PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas December 6th and 7th, so be one of the first to get hands on time with them at the Versus Evil booth — I3 and I4. That’s a capital “i†not a “l.†Happy gaming, you rabid lot! View the full article
  6. There’s one week remaining until the November 18 launch of Grand Theft Auto V on PS4. Pre-order your copy now and get a bonus $1,000,000 of in-game money to spend ($500K for Story Mode and $500K for GTA Online). 7. Tomorrow, the open-world nostalgia trip that is Retro City Rampage: DX hits PS4, PS3 and PS Vita digitally with 3X Cross Buy. With a 20% off PlayStation Plus launch week discount, you’ll get all three for $7.99 ($9.99 without Plus). That’s almost half of the original’s $14.99 launch price and with an added platform. Even more, this time digital isn’t your only option. ‘DX’ is getting a limited edition PS4 retail disc release too! The retail edition will include the PS4 game, the digital soundtrack and a few more digital freebies for only $25. Limited to 2,000 units, this is the rarest PS4 game ever produced. Seeing as the limited edition Vinyl soundtrack sold out long ago, I strongly recommend pre-ordering. It’s sold exclusively online via the Vblank Fangamer Store. and available for pre-order now. This special retail version also includes a double sided reversible cover, giving a nod to the video rental store cases of the ’80s. Anyone remember those?! It’s set to ship between the end of this month and early next month. You should have no problem getting it in time for the holidays. Producing physical copies is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and something you’ve all been requesting since before the game was even released. While PC was always a finger’s reach away, to me, nothing would be quite the trophy that a freshly pressed, shrink wrapped console game would be. Not only has Sony been fantastic in allowing indies to self-publish — since long before it made the news — they don’t limit us to just downloadable games. When they said self-publish, they meant it. Even this one-man-shop was able to self-publish and self-fund a full blown retail version! For months, I debated as to which platform to print physical copies for, but ultimately Sony made my decision easy once I discovered how they’d streamlined the PS4 process. In the past, you would need to build separate versions of a game for digital and retail and send both into certification. Now with PS4, one single submission can be deployed to both. It cuts down on both the work and time, making something cool like this even more within reach. By selling the retail version exclusively online, it also simplified distribution. All in all, going retail turned out to be even less work than I’d anticipated. It’s truly a great time to be an indie. In case you missed it, for the full rundown on what’s new in the DX version, check out last week’s blog. 3X Cross Buy! The digital PS4, PS3 and PS Vita versions of DX are all sold together as one for only $7.99 for PlayStation Plus members during the launch week ($9.99 without Plus), starting November 11th, 2014 (November 12th for EU/UK/AU/NZ). Pre-order the PS4 retail version at the Vblank Fangamer Store. Owners of the original Retro City Rampage for PS3 and PS Vita can transfer their save games to the new DX version via Cross-Save. The new DX version is a separate purchase, but keep in mind that with DX, you’re getting the PS4 version, a brand new Trophy set and new leaderboards. Owners of the original RCR who transfer their save game to ‘DX’ will also earn a shiny star next to their score on the leaderboards. That’s all for now! Drop your questions in the comments below! 8. Hey, PlayStation.Blog readers! I’m Andrew Allanson, from AckkStudios. I’m here to tell you about a 3D, turn-based, Japanese-style RPG that we are developing for PS4 and PS Vita. The game is called Y2K. Y2K is being developed by Brian & Andrew Allanson with Jose Alfaro, Ian Bailey, and Brigid Allanson. We unite under the name of AckkStudios LLC! Ackk is partnering with Ysbryd Games to ensure polish and funding for the game. So, what’s all this Y2K stuff about? For those of you too young to remember, Y2K refers to the year 2000 problem. Basically, it was a coding bug that was projected to create havoc in computers and computer networks around the world at the beginning of the year 2000… a lot of people thought the world was going to end because of this. It was pretty crazy. With that in mind, here are more specifics about the premise: When an erratically-behaving elevator claims the life of a young woman, unemployed recent college graduate Alex Eggleston takes to a primitive 1990s message-board to find answers about the death of this stranger. His quest for answers leads to more questions as his research points him to a mysterious van the internet has dubbed the “Death Cab.†This vehicular oddity roams the game’s city and countryside. Who is driving it? And despite mysterious happenings surrounding the vehicle, why does no one seem recognize its threat? On Alex Eggleston’s journey, he reunites with childhood friends, encounters a girl who can traverse the Soul Space to reside in new realities, and a multidimensional Android who sets the events of the game in motion. The “Mother series†and Haruki Murakami provides inspiration for the quirky characters and the thought-provoking script. These elements come together in a dramatic and mysterious story rife with emotional depth to bring the player on a journey. Because it is an RPG, Y2K is very story-heavy with a 400-paged script. And to tell that story, we’ve enlisted the help of some awesome voice actors. Our awesome cast includes, Chris Niosi, Andrew Fayette, Michaela Laws, Melanie Ehrlich, Brittany Lauda, Anthony Sardinha, and Clifford Chapin, just to name a few. Now, I want to talk about some of the unique gameplay elements you’ll find in Y2K! The first element I’ll be talking about today is enemy encounters. The enemies can be seen on the map. Making contact an enemy triggers the battle. However, once you kill this enemy, they are gone forever. We want to encourage players to find and hunt down as many enemies as possible. So, what happens if you have killed all the enemies and you’re still not strong enough for the boss? Well, get on a pay phone (in the game) and dial #333. This will take you inside the Mind Dungeon, which is a place that solely exists for grinding, as well as finding chests that contain new moves that are hidden and cannot be acquired through leveling up naturally. However, you can’t just jump into the Mind Dungeon. Defeating enemies and talking to NPCs can unlock keys for the mind dungeon, which allow you to proceed. So if you want to max out your characters, you’ll really have to hunt down every key and NPC. Combat in Y2K is turn-based. However, the player has control over how quickly the battle moves along. Using the R2 button, the player can increase how quickly the battle plays out in real time. However, speeding comes with its own risks! Dodging moves and executing combo attacks require the player to input commands in real time, and these speed up as you increase the battle tempo! Once the player has taken damage, a meter begins to fill. Once this meter is filled, the player can slow battle down to more accurately dodge enemy attacks and pull off combo with ease. In addition to standard magic/skill/melee attacks, there are also traps in battle. One example of a trap is: Upon getting hit with fire magic, swap position of party member with a stuffed Panda. So using this strategy against a fire monster MUCH stronger than you might be necessary if you are under-leveled. In addition to equipping standard items, you can also bring world items you find in the dungeon into battle. If you’re carrying a ladder, or a box, or a bomb for a puzzle and get ambushed by a group of enemies, you can use the items to fight them off. Some enemies might even require you to find a bomb or a powerful, giant sword to take them down, as you couldn’t possibly be strong enough to fight them at this point in the game. We’re going to be showing off an early build of Y2K at PlayStation Experience. We would love it if you stopped by and check out what we’ve been working on! I hope to see you at the PlayStation Experience to check out the Y2K demo. We’re hoping to release Y2K late 2015, or early 2016. View the full article
  9. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with the brightest minds in the industry to help launch some truly remarkable games — emotional adventures (Shadow of the Colossus), memorable characters (Parappa the Rapper), technological wonders (The Eye of Judgment), thrilling online action (Warhawk) and blockbuster shooters (Killzone). But one title stands out from all the rest. Rewind to 2007, when a small tech demo captured the gaming industry’s imagination with a crafty new character called Sackboy and a genius, passionate development team called MediaMolecule who asked everyone to Play, Create, and Share. Soon, the world of LittleBigPlanet was in the hands of millions of fans – and thanks to industry praise, “Game of the Year†accolades and a thriving community we knew — fun mattered. A few years later, LittleBigPlanet 2 debuted with new tools that unlocked whole new genres to play – from top-down adventures to first-person shooters. Again, our community responded by sharing a wealth of ingenious new creations. Later, fun went portable with LittleBigPlanet PS Vita, and more recently Run Sackboy! Run! (PS Vita and Android versions coming soon). Fast forward to next week, when LittleBigPlanet 3 hits stores with a new cast of characters, new layers of depth, and new bells and whistles revolving around PS4’s Share functionality. Heck, we even threw in a free Sackboy for the first batch of games on shelf. This holiday, we’re asking you to join us once more and be a part of a community where it’s okay to be different, enjoy playing games, express your creativity, and celebrate the uniqueness in all of us. 10. The digital world is a great place to play and experience games. But hey, let’s not forget the physical space, which is certainly not without its charm. And sometimes, there are games that combine the two! Well, today I want to share a game I’ve been working on which takes digital and physical, and combines them into a quirky play session. It’s time to twist, turn, and move around your friends in Henka Twist Caper! Henka Twist Caper brings play to the physical space with the help of PlayStation’s unique controllers. Players take a controller, twist, turn, and position it until they find the correct, secret position for their controller. Once they find their position, the controller lights up. Holding it in the correct position adds points to a player’s meter. As one would expect, the first one to fill their meter wins. Of course, there’s a catch. Players are allowed to interfere with each other. Which, in a race against others, makes all the difference. So, let’s say you’re twisting, turning, and pointing your own controller, but then notice your arch rival’s controller lighting up. You’ll have to do your best to maintain your composure, keep on searching for your controller’s position, and do your very best to stop your rival from keeping their controller in it’s sweet spot. And don’t forget, you have opponents trying to do the same thing with you. The amount of physical space the game is played in is extremely important. Normally, the play area is relatively small. This encourages you to be creative, flexible, crafty, and to not mind if you look a bit silly. Hey, you’re trying to win, right? But don’t worry about going it solo if you don’t want to. If you have a few people over, pick your favorite friend and enable team mode! Team mode comes with a few additional rules. You and your teammate share the same secret position for your controllers. So, if you find it, make sure to tell your teammate. Additionally, if you and your teammate are both holding the controller in the right spot at the same time, the meter will fill up significantly faster. So coordinate with your partner! Henka Twist Caper is a game that you want to play with others, whether they’re friends, foes, or strangers. And if you’re heading over to the PlayStation Experience you’ll be able to do just that! Henka Twist Caper will be there ready to welcome everyone to enjoy an exciting, twisted experience. Thanks to the uniqueness of PlayStation’s controllers, and other physical games like Johann Sebastian Joust, it’s possible for games like this to exist. Right now, the game is PS Move only, but the plan is to support DualShock 4 as well! So keep an eye on your PS4 in 2015 and be prepared to twist, turn, and caper*! (*Capering is not required, but adds to the experience) Oh, and of course, if there are any questions, write them down in the comments! Cheers! View the full article

  13. My fellow sinners, Let me be the first to say that I’ve been completely overwhelmed by all of the love we’ve seen for Freedom Wars since we launched last Tuesday – I can’t say thank you enough. Reviews have been great, the online battles have been intense, and I’ve had the pleasure of fighting alongside some of the most amazing Sinners I’d ever imagined. It’s hard to believe how many of you are already at CODE 7 and 8. But what’s left to challenge you after you’ve reached CODE 8? What kind of extra-tough challenges are there to keep you busy once your Panopticon is at the top of the charts? Allow me to introduce the downloadable “Special Operations†– extra difficult missions meant only for the highest-level teams out there, rotating in and out on a daily basis. “But what’s in it for me?†you might ask. What if I told you that certain rare resources will only be available to those who complete these Special Operations? That the key to completing that weapon you’ve dreamed of lies within one of these extra difficult missions? Tempted? I hope so, because that’s exactly what’s at stake here. Co-op is highly recommended due to the extremely difficult nature of these missions, so get your friends ready to help you out, because trust me, you’ll need them. Without further ado, here are the mission types that you can expect to encounter, starting on November 7th: Special Operations (Starting November 7th)Sunday XX300: Liquidation XX301: Liquidation Monday DS306: Liquidation DS309: Citizen Reclamation Tuesday FT303: Liquidation CT308: Citizen Reclamation Wednesday DS304: Liquidation GO310: Citizen Reclamation Thursday DS306: Liquidation DS309: Citizen Reclamation Friday FT303: Liquidation CT308: Citizen Reclamation XX305: Liquidation FT307: Liquidation Saturday DS304: Liquidation GO310: Citizen Reclamation XX305: Liquidation FT307: Liquidation A few things to note about the Operations: Distribution time for each day’s Special Operation(s) is scheduled between 7:00AM ~ 6:59AM PST. So every morning, get ready for a new challenge! Which operation, and the amount of operations that are available will differ depending on the day and week. The above chart lists all of the potential operations for a particular day, but you’ll need to keep checking back each week to see exactly what’s available! Retribution Operations will also become available at irregular times during the week, so look out for them! Whether you succeed or fail, you can challenge the Special Operations as many times as you like during the distribution period each day. Give it your all! So how do you access the Special Operations? Start by updating the Citizen’s Voice by hitting the Select button from inside your Cell. Once you connect online and update the Citizen’s Voice, you can obtain operations by selecting “Request Special Operations†from the Window on Liberty. You can then participate in the operations by selecting “Special Operations†from the Contributions Directory on the Personal Responsibility Portal (Start Menu). 16. A few months ago we were excited to announce our partnership with PlayStation and Sickhead games to bring our Greek Mythology inspired hack em’ up Apotheon to PS4. Now, we’re even more excited because after a whole lot of optimizing, beta testing, bugfixing, and paperwork, Apotheon will finally be launching in January 2015 on the PlayStation 4! We’re just putting the last finishing touches on Apotheon, but soon enough you’ll be fighting your way up Mount Olympus, Aspis in one hand, Xiphos in the other. Speaking of Olympus, in our last post we talked a bit about the combat that is at the core of Apotheon. This time, let’s shed some light onto the Mountain that makes up the game world itself. Olympus is, as you’re probably aware, the mythical home of the Greek Gods. But in Apotheon, all the Gods have abandoned earth (even the little ones that live in streams, trees, and rocks) and so Olympus has become a pretty crowded place, with Zeus playing host to a lot of displaced divine refugees. Peaceful palaces have turned into bustling marketplaces, squatters have taken up residence in sewers, drunken Satyrs pollute sacred shrines, and armed guards patrol the clouds to keep the peace in the House of Zeus. Once arriving on the Mountain, you the player can choose to tackle your ascent to the top any way you’d like. There’s a lot to explore, and you’re free to bring the fight to any of the Gods who reside nearby. Crash Apollo’s extravagant party, test your wits against the dangerous forests of Artemis, descend to Hades and back again, or maybe just break into some Agora houses to plunder some shiny Olympian treasure. Wherever you decide to go first, there’s always a colourful cast of characters to help, hinder, or berate you with full voice acting. We’ve tried to stay as close as possible when it comes to the mythological roots of Apotheon, even employing a Classic Literature Consultant to make sure we don’t screw anything up too badly. But don’t worry, if you don’t know who or what the Aloadae Otus and Ephialtes are, and why exactly Ares is so mad at them, we’ve got plenty of cool quotations from the ancients themselves to keep you in the loop (the Aloadae were two giant sexy men who kidnapped the god of war and stuffed him into a little bronze jar for an entire year). Greek Mythology is really weird, and we had to prove we didn’t make any of this stuff up. Once we get a little closer to the New Year, we’ll have a more definite release date locked in, so stay tuned for news on that! View the full article
  17. Extreme arcade action! A fresh sci-fi setting! Two-player split-screen! A pounding soundtrack! That’s all in Nano Assault NEO-X, our PS4 debut game. We’ve been doing action games for 15 years. All that experience went directly into creating our latest game, and we’re really looking forward to the reactions of PS4 owners. What’s in it? Blast viruses in a microscopic world. Battle gigantic boss creatures. Collect credits to upgrade your ship with powerful weapons to survive. Collect the B-O-N-U-S letters to enter the bonus round for quick extra credits. The best thing about Nano Assault NEO-X is the microscopic cellular world for you to explore. Ever looked through a scanning electron microscope? That’s our game world. You traverse the outer hull of cells and fight infections in twin-stick, shooter style. Sound exciting? It really is! We’re quite proud of the look and feel of that world. Super smooth 60 frames per second gameplay, 1080p visuals, 7.1 surround sound, non-stop action, hyperspeed bonus rounds, gorgeous light effects, two-player co-op, and much, much more, make Nano Assault NEO-X without a doubt the best action game we ever created. Also, you can upgrade your vessel with up to four satellites. Pause the game anytime and change the position and shooting direction of your satellites to your liking. We put a lot of work into creating a simple yet deep scoring system, because we think that comparing your scores with friends and other players online is what makes arcade shooters great fun to play. There are online rankings for all levels, so you can post your high scores for the world to see. Even the guys in the office still find new ways to improve their scores and we’re really excited to see how the players out there can maximize their combo multiplier. View the full article
  18. Dragon Age: Inquisition, the latest chapter in BioWare’s sweeping fantasy saga, wastes no time beginning its urgent, world-splitting story. Truth be told, the developers have sewn a great amount of detail onto the main menu alone. Starting a new game catapults the idyllic scene of a snowy peace summit into utter devastation. And that’s just the menu. For those who have followed previous chapters of Dragon Age, the story is dense and rich with lore. But when a seething, green portal opens in our world and welcomes in legions of demons, players have a straightforward cause to rally behind. In Dragon Age: Inquisition, players follow the story of a survivor that emerges from this demonic blast (almost) unscathed. The site of the explosion had been host to a peace summit organized by Divine Justinia, who sought an end to the strife between mages and Templars. With those plans wholly awry, the main character — the Inquisitor — is tasked with upholding Justinia’s legacy and hunting down the demonic agents haunting the realm. Despite the gravity of the situation and the massive cast of characters, Inquisition outlines clear goals and motives for all. It helps newcomers acclimate to the world, and learn about the warring powers over time. A thick codex also documents characters, locations, and legends for those who want to dive deeper into the lore of the Dragon Age universe. In true BioWare form, Inquisition’s branching dialogue system lets players choose whether they want to wander into enriching conversations or cut the chatter short and get back to the action. How the player handles these situations will define not only the main character, but also that character’s relationship to his or her followers. Battles in Inquisition place players in control of one character at a time. But they can switch to any hero in the party at will, issuing commands via a strategic, top-down view, and managing as much or as little as needed. Hit the touch pad, for example, and survey the surrounding terrain to organize attacks, assign spells, and send in melee heroes to begin the assault. Or command followers to stay behind while the Inquisitor stealthily approaches the opposition and takes down any unfortunate stragglers. This system instills a tremendous amount of choice in players, outside of selecting the sex, race, and class of the hero. Organizing party strategies and then defeating foes on the field can involve moment-to-moment decision making, or a more casual approach for the less patient. Difficulty can be adjusted dynamically to accommodate more demanding players. Inquisition ties three followers to the main hero in less than an hour, giving players control of a full party before the world has even opened up with its packed docket of quests. Strolling through wintery peaks and forests will quickly introduce players to villagers that need help, have requests, or are just victims of the wars raging throughout the realm. These quests can be undertaken or ignored at a player’s leisure, which again, highlights player choice and the freedom for newcomers to skim the shallows or dive deep into the content offered. Outside of questing, one of the most enthralling aspects of Inquisition is just that: the Inquisition. Building an army, equipping it, and customizing strongholds showers players with options, breathing a sense of ownership into the conflict that makes every battle more personal. And when that customization extends from the hero herself to the whole damn Inquisition, players will feel a real connection with the struggle of Dragon Age: Inquisition — newcomers and veterans alike. Dragon Age: Inquisition launches on November 18th for PS4 and PS3. View the full article
  19. It’s top sellers time! Let’s see who ruled the PlayStation Store charts last month: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor led the charge on PS4 (and word on the street is it was well-deserved), with NBA 2K15 and Minecraft nipping at its heels. Slender: The Arrival and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel came in just behind the mighty Minecraft on PS3, and Freedom Wars made an extra-strong debut on Vita, especially considering it only had a few days to catch up after launching on 10/28. As always, head on over to the European PS.Blog to see how these games stacked up over there. November’s looking pretty huge for game releases… who’s gonna come out on top? 20. It’s hugely exciting to be bringing the world of Terraria to PS4. We didn’t feel it was necessary to tinker with the core mechanics of the game, which have underpinned its success to date, but we’ve definitely been able to take this console version to the next level and implement some fantastic new features in the process – It looks amazing running in HD on PS4 too! The first thing to talk about is the scale of the PS4 version, which is almost triple the size of the original PS3 game. A truly huge amount of content and features have been added, with well over 1,000 new items including 10 new ores, 4 new wood types, 31 new brick types, 12 new wing types, 29 new tinker combinations, 50 new paintings, 8 new friendly NPCs, 15 new pets, over 100 new enemies, 4 new bosses … the list goes on, and on! We’ve also listened to feedback from the community and looked at how people play the original console games to figure out where slight improvements might be made. We wanted to address the immense scale of Terraria’s world, which can actually be a blessing and a curse! Now players will be able to ‘pinch’ to zoom in and out on DualShock 4′s touch pad, which is really simple and intuitive but makes a huge and immediate difference when playing the game. We’re also working hard on a World Map companion app for mobile and tablet devices, which you’ll be able to download for free to see where you are in the PS4 game in real-time, and work out what kind of interesting (or scary!) stuff is all around you. Finally, we’re thrilled that PS4 players will be able to cross-play with the PS3 and PS Vita versions of the game, whether you want to transfer your save games or enjoy cross-platform multiplayer; joining up to fight bosses together, building added-awesome castles, or duelling each other in PvP combat! To celebrate this feature and the launch of Terraria on PS4 we’re even bundling the PS Vita version for a limited time, so you’ll get the Vita version for free when you buy the game on PS4! The PS4 version of Terraria really is the ultimate console version of the game that’s beloved by millions of Terrarians already – we hope you love it too! View the full article
  21. Hi everyone, my name is Kendal and I’m the CEO and lead programmer at Spiky Fish Games. We’re excited to announce that our debut game, Sketchcross, is launching exclusively for PS Vita in early 2015. Sketchcross is a logic puzzler based on the nonogram ruleset. If you’re not familiar, think of a mix between crosswords and sudoku. You’re given number clues on the rows and columns to help sketch in the corresponding squares on the grid. Doing so starts to reveal the picture you’re creating. A full-fledged nonogram-based game has not yet been fully realized for Playstation here in North America, and we were determined to change that. Sketchcross will launch with 50 puzzles ranging from simple 5×5 shapes to complex 30×30 animals. The game has been designed to be easily expandable and our plan is to offer additional puzzles after launch. Solving puzzles reveals the completed shape in block form, solving all the puzzles in a book awards the player that book’s unique trophy. Trophy’s are stored in your trophy room and are accessible at any time. Additionally, each puzzle has a time leaderboard where you can compare your completed times with the world and friends. Sketchcross features Normal and Frenzy mode. In Frenzy mode you’re given a short amount of time to complete a randomly generated puzzle. It’s a race against the clock that tests your puzzle solving skills. I can’t wait to see how many puzzles players can finish without running out of time! Our team has been working really hard and I’m so excited to share this announcement with you. Feel free to leave a question or comment and I’ll try and answer all of them. View the full article

  24. Hello, PlayStation.Blog readers! My name is Ciro and I’m part of Kalio, a small independent studio in Uruguay. We are thrilled to announce that our latest game Ring Run Circus will be launching on PS Vita and Playstation TV on November 11th, 2014. The launch price will be $9.99, with PS Plus members receiving a 20% off discount for a limited time. Ring Run Circus is a unique sort of game which we like to call a “ring-formerâ€: an action-puzzle game set in a dream world of connected rings. Players take the role of three uniquely talented acrobats — Nina, Ned, and Nelson — and help them navigate this strange world full of hazards, circus animals, and tricky puzzles. The goal of each level is to grab the colorful key and get to the exit door as quickly as possible leaving no stars behind. The controls are quite simple; one button to ride on the outside or inside of the rings, and another one to activate each acrobat’s special ability: Nina jumps, Ned punches, and Nelson triggers mechanisms to move rings around. Don’t let the seemingly simple controls deceive you, though. There is enough challenge waiting, not only for your skill — proper timing to change rings, slapping enemies, jumping — but also for your wits: these puzzles are taken from the dreams of a bunch of mad men after all. In fact, the goal of the game is to understand who Nina, Ned, and Nelson really are. And why is there a man with slicked-up hair meditatively looking out the window in every cutscene? This man is named Ringo, by the way, and he happens to be an amazing acrobat. He is also a bit stressed out. Can you imagine why? Anyway, what’s interesting about the game is that you’ve never experienced a platformer like this one before, mainly because it’s not a platformer in the first place. It feels quite different from one and thus we chose to call it a ring-former. Also, the mix of skill and puzzle splits gameplay in two phases: solving the puzzle and finishing the level in the shortest amount of time possible to climb the rankings. There are more than 50 levels (some of them with what someone called “old-school sensibilitiesâ€), a ton of Trophies, and the mighty rankings, of course. For the curious folk, Ring Run Circus was inspired by a bowl of washers. Yes. Bowl. Metal washers. The long story can be found on our blog. The short story is that we were challenged by the fantastic Kokoromi Gamma 4 showcase for one button games in 2010 and we could not let the idea go away, so we spent about 3 years banging our heads until the fun emerged from the cracked skulls and loose nuts and washers. We went through many iterations (including making it a two-button game, instead of one) and discovered something we had always suspected: making new and original games is really, really hard. We are very happy to publish our first console game (making our childhood dreams come true) in the best way possible: by joining the PlayStation family. We’re eternally grateful to Mike Foster and all the Latin America developer incubation program team for making it happen. Stay tuned for more games from Kalio and see you in the rankings!
